Sex and the City:(HBO, Kim Cattrall, Sarah Jessica Parker)
Is there anything that's too hot for pay-TV? "Last year, we cut just one scene," says Sex exec producer [Michael Patrick] King. Suffice it to say, the offending naughty bit involved prudish Charlotte, her sexually frustrated boyfriend, and his golden retriever. "All you saw was a tasteful dog head on the [boyfriend's] lap," laughs King. Not tasteful enough for HBO, though; the normally hands-off net said the shot stepped over the increasingly thin blue line. [Source: Entertainment Weekly, August 6, 1999, p.25]

Mylar Balloons Depicting Wishbone:
While Christmas shopping in December 1997, I went to a toy store and saw a display of Mylar balloons depicting Wishbone, the intact male Jack Russell Terrier from the PBS children's show named after him. On one side, Wishbone was dressed in (I believe) a Robin Hood outfit, so his genitals were obscured. On the other side, the dog wore no clothing, but although the angle from which he'd been photographed would have shown not only his sheath and scrotum, but also the preputial opening, all of his genitals had been airbrushed away.
