Zoo Talkers, MUDs, IRC Channels, WebChats, and BBSes

For even more info, visit the Zoo Resources page [currently offline as of 12/98], which is an excellent collection of links to IRC channels, talkers, and newsgroups, plus links to the software (for Macs, Windows, and other platforms) you need to access them.

Another excellent page of links to talkers (zoo and otherwise) is The Mega Talker Page. Thanks to Moonie for reporting this link.

Zoo-Oriented Talkers

All of these are based on the NUTS protocol, and use the same basic command structure.

Sleepy's Forest <telnet://206.54.38.11:5010>
The main gathering place for zoos. Visit Sleepy's Home Page, or take a look at the Forest Resources page [currently offline as of 12/98], which include links to telnet clients, rules & guidelines, and an excellent summary of talker commands.
Lintilla's Animal Friends <telnet://194.47.252.37:5010>
The first "Forest," it predated Sleepy's and resides in Sweden. Visit Lintilla's Home Page, or take a look at the Lintilla Resources page [currently offline as of 12/98], which include links to telnet clients, rules & guidelines, and an excellent summary of talker commands.
Fantasia's Jungle Fever <telnet://206.129.8.221:4095>
Their home page is here.
Plane of Animals <telnet://206.54.38.248:4206>
Their home page is here.
Fantasy Island <telnet://208.7.65.101:4239>
Zoos just want to have fun. :) Recently revamped. Zoo and zoo friendly.
Akita's Zoo Online Talker <telnet://zot.dyn.ml.org:4096>
New addition to this list, though it's been around a while. Just haven't been to it yet myself. Check it out!
If your browser has Java installed, you can visit K9rott's brand new Web-based zoo chat room. Many other people'szoo pages have their own chat rooms, too: visit them and see!

Zoo Central (DEFUNCT)
(This used to be a great gathering place for zoos, but it was shut down by its provider and is now defunct.)

MUDs & MUCKs (not zoo-oriented, specifically, but often frequented by zoos)

FurryMUCK (Telnet)
The largest furry-related MUD. Visit the FurryMUCK Home Page. Yiff! :)

"Addicted to MUD"
a song parody by Bruce S. Woodcock.
More MUD Humor
Same site as above, but more stuff.
You Might Be a Mucker If...
Like it says, a long list of symptoms that you've been online _way_ too long.

Zoo-Oriented IRC Channels (let me know if I left any out)

IRC (Internet Relay Chat) is a domain, like WWW or FTP, which is host to many different networks, like DalNet, Effnet, Undernet, etc. Each of these networks is analogous to a huge apartment building, with many different rooms, called "channels." Each channel name is preceded by a # sign, and is devoted to a particular subject or group of people.

Note: IRC is NOT a very secure way to chat with other zoos. Anyone on the channel can find your server name, and with a little effort can find your true identity. Talkers and MUDs are much safer. To learn more about IRC, read the FAQ, which is in two parts: Part 1 and Part 2. For even more info, visit the IRC Resources page [currently offline as of 12/98].

Press release regarding #caninesex: "I would like to report the creation of a new zoo chat site on IRC, as of the evening of Wednesday, July 23 [1997]. The site is called #caninesex and has been registered with the IRC powers-that-be as a permanent site. Several of the regular ops from the other sites, including WlfSpirit, ImaZoo, WheelDog and more are behind its creation, in the effort to build a site where zoo topics are discussed in a lighter vein. There is no picture trading, and curious are welcome."

Zoo-Oriented or Zoo-Friendly WebChats

This is a brand-new section; thanks to Mammalogist for pointing it out to me.
Pet Lovers -- NEW! September 28, 1997
This is an online web-based chat forum for the discussion of bestiality and zoophilia. It is not done in real-time: people post messages on the board, and other people reply. While there is the occasional spammish or clueless posting, most seem genuine. There are also links to zoo pages and stories. Thanks to Mammalogist for pointing out this link.

Zoo-Oriented or Zoo-Friendly BBSes

Why are BBSes listed here? Well, the Internet may be the hip thing these days, but the BBS scene is hardly dead. Many BBSes have Internet access, especially e-mail and newsgroups, and they can reach people the full Internet service providers can't.

Alternet
According to Kerrin, Alternet is a network of adult-oriented Bulletin Board Systems, with a wide variety of erotic, R and X-rated discussion groups. One BBS which carries these groups is Starship ][, located here.

Chained Lightning
According to Lycanthrope, this board is up and running.

K&S (Kennels & Stables)
According to Fishhook, Lycanthrope, and others, K&S is definitely defunct: it went down in March '95. Fishhook also reports some rather disconcerting rumors (which I won't repeat here) concerning the nature of K&S' demise, and what followed afterwards.

Pup-Tek BBS
According to a message received from the sysop on 9/10/97, "Pup-Tek BBS will most likely never be online again: the hard drive crashed and I couldn't recover any of the BBS. This and the fact that I now work a 60 hour week means I'll most likely never get it back online. It may re-appear as a web based message forum someday, only time will tell."

SSW-][ (Secret Society of Werewolves II)
Here's the scoop, straight from the sysop, Big Bad Wolf. "SSW-][ is an adult/PD BBS with a LOT of Zoo and Furry pix. You MUST ask for Zoo access to get it, otherwise you get just regular adult access... Currently running 3 nodes: (412) 963-6961, (412) 963-7080 and (412) 963-7212 at 33.6k (the 7212# is only 28,8k) and is free to all callers (not in it for the $$$'s; I don't even accept donations). I would prefer some form of ID for access but a voice call will do in most cases... The new user logon is really long and dragged out, mainly did this so only the really serious will actually complete it :)... Hated to have to put all those people thru all that stuff but with the *#@$~% CDA, well, what's a fella supposed to do... If you have any other questions feel free to e-mail me at [email protected] or for faster response call my board :)"

Wolfpack Systems
According to Lycanthrope, this board is run by Thunderwolf (of FurryMuck) and should be up and running.
