Not really a surprise, as pilots often contain bits of the series for demonstration to help 'sell' the idea. So the pitch could be 'later we'll have stories about these three younger kids finding out who they really are' without it being too obtrusive.
Or the three of them may of just randomly hit beneath the same curtain.
