Hi anonpony, you should give episodes 9 and 10 a look. In my humble opinion they are among the best and more representative to the series that episode 1.

it's pretty widely agreed upon that the first two, being the pilot episodes, were a little different than the rest of the series, what till episode 6 and you'll be happy (hell, just watch episode 6! the great and powerful trixie demands it! :P)
