Seven centuries ago, mankind first encountered an alien life known as the Equestrians. These intelligent creatures that resemble horses mysterious appeared on Earth. Humanity greeted the alien refugees with ruthless subjugation as they were either enslaved or slaughtered. Two hundred years ago, the Equestrians were given their freedom, but the wounds of bigotry are slow to heal. When space travel became commonplace, they fled to giant floating space colonies by the millions. Fearful of the power they accumulated, Equestria Alliance refused to allow any more Equestrians to migrate into space. The Equestrian colonies responded with force, declaring war on humanity. Half of Equestria’s population, both human and Equestrian, perished in a seven-day period of nuclear bombardment known as the One Week Inferno. After exhausting their stockpiles of nuclear weapons, the conventional weapon of choice of both sides became the giant robotic machines known as mobile suits. It is the year 0701 of the Exile Calendar: the year that the legendary weapon of war powerful enough to force both sides into embracing peace made its return.

That weapon is called Gundam.
