How often did something drop from the sky without Pinkie's tail twitching? (Like a bunch of apples or Rainbow Dash :p)
If Twilight would have kept trust into herself, she would have found out about about a phenomen called "selective perception".
Also, the link between "have to believe" and "need a friend" was weak.
Well, even the best scholar isn't always right, right?
In my opinion, this is so far the worst episode of all, I did watch so far. The argument "When this happens, we always see that happen" is used by a lot of shit talkers like priests, homeopaths, fortune tellers, coffee ground readers and so on...
It is just too easy to say afterwards: "See, I told you!" or "Hey, the signs are usually very blurry. We might have misinterpreted and xyz will happen later. Next year. In twenty years. Or in two thousand."

Well I wouldn't blame Twilight for having lost trust in herself in a way. It's true many things fell from the sky without Pinkie's tail twitching in the past but whenever it twitched in that episode things decided to land on top of Twilight - as well as other bad things happening to her. If you put yourself in her horseshoes I doubt you wouldn't have started to doubt your judgement too.

"... I doubt you wouldn't have started to doubt your judgement too"
Maybe. On the other side, she was very stressed up and too focused on Pinkie. (Who wouldn't be?) This means, she never watched her actual environment and with every accident, selfdoubt and therefore the accident propability grew.

There was a time, when I really hated Tuesdays, because on Tuesdays, I hurted myself quite painfully (and accidentally, of course). It was never something serious, but slamming a 0.5kg hammer on my knee or stabbing my thumb with a screwdriver was everything but pleasant. However, one day I just doubted that it all was occasion or mysterious bad luck. I was just so much expecting something to happen that I actually made it happen. After I took a deep breath and decided to watch better over myself and my environment, the hurty Tuesdays were gone. This was, what was happening with Twilight (despite the whole plot being constructed by a make-believer).

The episode was written by Dave Polsky according to this:

This guy worked as investment banker and social worker, which explains, why he believes so much in things that can't be explained ^.^

It's possible that her focusing solely on Pinkie made her prone to accidents. On the other hand the very Looney Toon-like mishaps would have been difficult to avoid even when being fully aware of your environment I think.

I can understand your reasoning with the Tuesday example. For a very long time I dreaded Fridays at work cause always at Friday something bad seemed to happen. Looking back at it now I think bad things happened cause I always started to get a bit sloppy with my work as weekend drew nearer and I lost focus on my chores.

Lauren Faust has said the concluding letter was a mistake, and she would take it back if she could.
IMO, further discussion of this episode's moral is beating a dead pony.

True. But some discussion had to be done. If things can't be discussed, mistakes would be repeated.
I mainly wanted to know, if I am the only one who thinks so about this episode or if there are other views to be considered.

There are still threads around here about this, stop making new ones about it. you are beating a dead horse.

I'd like to believe that it's all backwards.

Pinkie Pie doesn't sense when things are going to happen. When she gets a twitch, she subconsciously makes them happen with magic power she doesn't know she has.

So basically, Pinkie Pie is Haruhi Suzumiya?
Does that mean that she's really god, and all of these adventures are really creations of her mind that the other ponies play along with to prevent her from undoing Equestria when she gets bored?
Because Pinkie Pie as god is perfectly acceptable to me.

Honestly Pinkie Pie reminds me a bit of Fizban from the the Dragonlance series. She's there for comedic relief, but at the same time things tend to "go right" when she's around. I wouldn't doubt it if she's a deity masquerading as the village eccentric, just as Fizban Was.

not to rage but seriously I don't get why everypony is over analyzing the shit outta pinkie keen. I watched it enjoyed it and left it at that. The first thing you need to remember for every episode is that it's for kids. I don't kids would get a religious, or spiritual message from it. At least I didn't

The episode is kind of annoying even without the moral

It felt a bit like they were trying to justify religion to the target audience to me, which, as an atheist, I had a problem with.

Other than that, it's probably been my favorite episode so far. Everypony loves Pinky, and Rarity isn't in it to be an utter bitch.

I certainly didnt think so. All of the slapstick just seemed like a big old Loony Toons homage and made me happy.
Derpy dropping an anvil and piano on Twilights head? Priceless.

your not the only atheist here brony, and I didn't get that message. the thing you guys need to see is that this is a childrens show, and even though they have stuff for adults, the morals are for the kids, we would already know this stuff. overanalyzing this episode is making a people split apart which isn't at all what my little pony is about. just roll with it

we're honestly going to go there? How about taking something good away from the episode, like not being closed-minded???

Eh, to be fair, I was watching this ep for the first time with a friend (who's new to MLP), and we both walked away with a very strong "wtf?" vibe. I hastily explained that the other episodes aren't that bad, and got him to watch another, which hooked him.
>> No. 520
I liked the ep but I found the moral really... lacking. The ep itself is hilarious, and I can easily suspend disbelief enough to see Pinkie Pie having special powers, but how does that transfer to a real life aesop? Not in any way that doesn't support bullshit and superstition, IMO.

And that made that Ep SO MUCH WIN!
