Whats the rule on using names around here? Last time I checked, using a name that wasn't protected by a password wasn't considered a form of identity theft. Isn't that was a trip code and set password for? What, are expected to just call dibs and hope that we are worthy enough to be allowed to use a name now? Again, I just want some clarification. Gentlemen, it is time for a meeting. Good morning, /ef/.

It has come to my attention that a precedent has just been set by the moderation team regarding the type of topic conduct that is seen as allowable or, in this case, bannable. The post in question will be outlined below and we will discuss whether or not, as a community, if this is outlined within the current rules as explained in the header topic on the board.

Something to consider when discussing instances like this is the relation of sincerity, intent, and purpose of the post in question. In the most applicable sense of interpretation of the more ambiguous rule set it emphasizes the direction of harassment or attack upon users and not entire branches of topics.
To plainly state, through direct moderator action, that racism is not allowed - when statements regarding such are not within the sites rules - is a immediate bypass of not only the stated three warning system but also intense overreach against the intended nature of the board itself.

Now we also must take the previous history of the board as a means to justify the current allowable topics or posts. We must keep within our culture and that culture is one of freedom of expression but not freedom to continually harass and this distinction must be made apparent and all actions taken thereupon any posts must be laid within this light. /ef/ prides itself on the community moderation. We are a community that does, and should, moderate its own actions through our own social means: Only calling upon moderation when a situation delves too far towards illegality or persistent harassment.

The idea of controversial humor and topics have been an absolute cornerstone in the creation and fruition of this community and it should not be restricted so easily and without warning. The consequences of this retaliation towards the userbase ends up with the situation we have here now. One that questions the nature of those who are permitted to moderate and influence the posts and topics that persist and flow throughout our community. It leads to senseless flamewars and shitstorms that do not need to happen. This is the very reason the three warning rule was enacted. So that there will be a checks and balance to allow free conversation as to why a post would be deemed removable or even punishable. Why would we immediately throw out such an amazing improvement towards community moderation in one fell swoop?

Racism is a topic that can be deemed toxic in nature, this is true. However, racism and all other means of controversy must be discusses and should never be censored lest you continue to dwindle the essence of a community that thrives off its use as a source of dark entertainment or humor. Only when racism becomes an act of harassment at an individual or becomes so extreme and constant till it qualifies as spam should we begin to punish the user and not the topic itself.

/ef/ is a community of wonderful toxicity but not one of absolute hate and harassment. There is a very big difference between instances of irredeemable social behavior towards each other and a simple post that is a caricature of a time and history that persisted throughout human history. That caricature that I was just punished for and it is one we must discuss.

The offending post is below, the punishment in the OP. If we are to allow this offense to stand then we are making a future statement for the conduct of the entire board that will effect all users from here into the future.
What do you think, /ef/? Are we not allowed our share of choice in this boards direction? Did I perhaps break any of the existing rules?

New frontend in development Rather than putting more and more band-aids on the issues with Ponychan's bloated spaghetti-code frontend, I've decided to do a complete rewrite.

Board requests and such I have an idea for 2 new boards: a random board called either /chaos/ or /b/, and only barebones minimum of the global rules of the site apply (ie only about 5 or 6 of the global rules are would apply).
Next is a proposal for a /v/ board for video game discussion. As long as the game and/or device is electronic and contains a video signal, it fits.

Lastly, How about an option to drag & drop or url link to already online images into the file field? I've known a number of forums and even other chan imageboard sites throughout my years lurking and whatnot that support such a feature.
Lastly, how about allowing embeds from Soundcloud, Dtube, streamable, and Odysee?

We've been talking about renaming/rebranding the site for a while now, and while some stuff has come up that delayed it, it's officially finally going to happen next Tuesday, August 10th.
Banners
Since we're no longer going to be an explicitly MLP dedicated site (not that we've really been much of one for a while now), we're going to retire a bunch/most of our banners, which means we're going to need some new ones. If you're artistically inclined (or at least feel like contributing in general), we'd love to have some new ones for variety. They don't need to be worthy of being recorded in the art history books, but we'd like them to be at least relatively nice looking. You don't need to be a Van Gogh or a da Vinci to make a nice looking banner.
Banner rules:
1. The vertical resolution should be no more than 150px, and the horizontal resolution should be about 600px.
2. They need to be safe for work
3. If you want it to be used for a specific board, make sure you specify that in your post.
4. They have to have the site title (Pchan) or domain (Pchan.co) on it, or at least a title that vaguely represents it (a joke title is acceptable, as long as the name isn't taken by another site).
5. You can make an animated one if you want, it isn't required. If it's animated, it should be a .gif file. If it's not, it should be a .png or a .jpg/.jpeg file
6. Keep banner submissions to this thread.

Toybox has the final say in banner submissions.

Spam What is considered spam?

I got banned with a permanent ban with an appeal, in which I did so and was let go, but my thread, while some what similar to two others was removed.

So I ask again, what is considered spam to have a ban slapped on with no warning? Because I've seen similar posting styles in the past with no consequence.

That's the way the cookie crumbles So, I know how to clear cookies on Firefox. I also know how to clear cookies automatically while putting the few sites I like as an acception. Such as Ponychan for example which should keep my username and prefered settings.

But everytime I reset my computer, Ponychan (as well as Ponyville.us) resets and forgets on me.

Regarding the hypothetical politics tag or politics board still being considered by the staff, I would just like to say I think I prefer a board due to /chat/'s language rule now. Politics will be the most likely thing to cause problems and It's probably better if it's established in advance to have politics without throwing insults at each other and if that can't be done or adequately enforced well maybe it really isn't the best idea to have politics in general.

About the future of /ef/ People have been throwing the words "delete ef" around lately, as a joke, mostly at least. But some of us are actually serious about it, the amount of drama and vitriol that board has caused to the community and mod team I'm sure has been disproportionately large compared to what happens in any other board, even the rest of the site as a whole.

It's pretty clear that the /ef/ community doesn't mix well with the rest of us, their desire of freedom to a fault brings them to put their own worst personal aspects on the spotlights and thus we end up with huge arguments that do nothing but hurt the site's users. The excuse of it all just being lighthearted shitposting cannot apply anymore, just look at the malicious nature people's posts can have in that board.

There's also been talk of them making their own website and I fully support that, they should have their own place in which they can have their kind of fun in the way they want, but that place shouldn't be a malignant tumor on the rest of the website.

I suggest the deletion of ef, their group is connected enough that there wouldn't be any loss of communication between them while they sort out their new website and this way the mod team can have a well deserved rest after years of drama.

okay so like I've been having a problem with the Quick Reply Box for several years now but I never thought to bring it up until now

So, as most of you are all aware, the MLP fandom is not exactly alive and kicking anymore. We have noticed that a majority of the site is no longer really pony related in any real way outside of /pony/ and a small sprinkling of /rp/.

As such, the mod team and I have been considering opening the site up to be more of a "general" fan site. Not specifically just ponies.

What does this mean? It simply means the overall pony motif will be going away and the site will get a more fitting name not directly related to MLP.

FAQ:
Q: "Will /pony/ be deleted?"
A: No. All pony related content will remain and be allowed, we will just not be making it the main focus.

Q: "What is going to happen to /ef/, /oat/ and /chat/?"
Nothing. These boards will remain as "general purpose" boards not directly related to any fandoms.

Q: "So what is actually going to change?"
A: To be honest, not all that much. We will probably just be adding boards related to other fandoms if we see a rising interest in them. All the things you currently have shouldn't be going away.

Q: "What is the point of this?"
A: The userbase has been in on a decline for quite some time, and it's not going to pick up because of our image as a "pony" site. Anyone not interested in ponies will not come here, and anyone who is will come here and realize that we aren't really about the show anymore. It's overall just going to lead to the eventual decay and death of the site. The idea here is to make the place a bit more welcoming to other fandoms outside of pony.

From this old thread about the Ponychan Dev Tools, I was testing some things based on it. I don't know where to ask this, but as that old thread was up there then I suppose I could ask here too. How exactly can I deploy the imageboard software on web hosting, I got it running on the localhost with virtual box and vagrant, but I don't know how to get it up online. This is for a small project I'm developing, but I'm new in all of this, especially with the part of the software.

MLP turns to gender stereotypes So I've noticed this since season 4 appeared. Im writing to express my feelings about "MLP Friendship is magic" series. Season 1-3 was a personal favorite of mine because I liked how you reversed the gender roles. You "added an ingredient" which I can only describe as a sense of superiority of the girl ponies: emotional, social status (spitfire), behavioral (RD, AJ) and more. I think the episodes in season 4 (and the following seasons) "changed directions" and gave the male ponies the upper hoof. It made me feel uncomfortable while watching. It disappointed me. It made me feel as if you were imposing the stereotype of whats male and female.

Starlight Glimmer and the line. Hello and good evening people.
I opened this thread because I need the mods/ admins to clear something up for me and maybe for others as well.
Since I joined this community back in 2016 I have been drawing things for the users, because it was funny for us, it was funny for me and it helped me to practice.

I have drawn for Anon, Heavy Mole, Mac, Holly, Nimble Wing, Wheat, ect.
But the person whom I have drawn more for is Mikie (about 5 drawings).All of them (minus one) came out from my desire to give something to this community.

I stopped, I quit giving those personalized drawings because economical problems/collegue, but I had decided to get back on track this year by posting like the old times.

Past March 30th I drew a picture of Starlight Glimmer and I posted it on /ef/ on 1th April as an innocent joke to Mikie. However, it turned out it was not so innocent as I assumed: it got deleted.
I apologized to Mikie because I assumed I hurt his feelings.

The most of us know the situation between Mikie and Starlight, but fact that the picture got deleted (was not even NSFW) while other poster can open a thread just say the N-word or others can post fat ponies or NSFW stuff , confuses me and kinda discourages me from trying again with the future drawings I had planned.

There is obviously a force leaning the scale here, but that is not the main problem. I need to know where the line is drawn, clear rules because this:

Staff will only remove content that is illegal, improperly tagged or just plain spam, with everything else being free game.


does not give me an explanation.

Can't we post said character breaking the 4th wall?
Can't we post said character in sexual situations?

Stepping down as mod (for now, at least) This is just a brief notice that after tonight, I will no longer be a mod here.

This is a decision I debated privately for a while and came to a conclusion for tonight.

The motivations for this are pretty simple, it's IRL stress getting to me that makes moderating feel like a responsibility I no longer want.

Seriously, do you? Steam Twist was permabanned a few years back for constant disruptive behavior ranging from levying generalized accusations and insults against the site users in general to posting extreme fetish art that, whilst not actually explicit, was disgusting and uncalled for. There's a lot more, but that's not actually super important because the important thing is that he hasn't changed.

He still does everything he did prior, though now he just isn't being banned because "It's not against the rules on /ef/."

This isn't a rules matter, however. This is a matter of overall site quality and decency. Knowing that he's not changed from his previous ways and knowing that it will continue, does anyone actually want him around.

I do wish we could cut down on the edgy racist memes, to be honest. All they do is normalize discrimination and racism until that sort of stuff becomes commonplace and suddenly we're a haven for alt-right think and one of our own has decided it's cool to go off and do something actually terrible.

This is something I've thought about for a while now and recently seeing a thread where the OP was literally the n-word and nothing else basically made me make up my mind to say something. Someone has to, honestly. Not doing so is complacence against common decency and, really, we shouldn't be a site that allows discrimination, even in a memetic form, to flourish. After all, so-called ironic discrimination almost certainly becomes unironic after not all that much time.

Hell, it's even against the site rules to be racist, sexist, and discriminatory, yet many examples of that sort of behaviour go un-accounted for. I think we need to work towards removing this sort of behaviour from our small corner of the internet here and hold ourselves accountable to a higher standard of posting. Yes, this is /ef/ and yes, "anything goes (within reason)", but I see no reason to allow the sort of thought that leads to some pretty awful mindsets go unchecked.

So please, can we try to avoid that sort of behaviour? If only to preserve our own dignity and prevent it from becoming so commonplace that it becomes acceptable? Because it isn't acceptable, and it should never be acceptable to be discriminatory.

#Free /anon/ Recently ponyville.us made an official anonymous board called /mask/ or masquerade, and so far it seems to be going really well. And from looking through mlpchans old archives it seems that people really liked the anonymous board there as well.

So I'm requesting that an /anon/ board is added to the site. Much like the previous /anon/ this board should essentially be a place of shitpoting and bants, somewhere people can post anonymously and make threads/posts that don't belong on any board without any repercussions. The only board rule should be that all users must post anonymously, other than that all bets are off. I think this might be a fun way to get the sites actively up, as well as giving people a place to vent and post whatever they want without any stigma attached.

The problem with Chewy's style of moderation is that he deletes threads and bans users based on his personal feelings instead of an objective consideration of the site's rules. It becomes apparent by the way that he explains himself to the general public for every deleted thread or ban he commits. Not only is it apparent Chewy is on some self-congratulatory moral crusade; he has to insult our intelligence by opening his mouth about his moderating decisions instead of allowing us to observe that a thread was trashed or someone was banned because they were being a retard. It's so bad that even when he goes anonymous, you can tell who it is because he just can't shut the fuck up.

What you said to Fleur was the furthest thing I've seen from respect on this entire site. What you call "respect" is nothing more than plebeian tier "eye, for an eye" logic, and if everyone on the site adopted said logic all it would take is one person to justify the derailment of a thread or the use of ad-hominem in any conversation, to destroy this whole site and turn it into a genuine /pol/, rather than /pol/ lite.

Genuine respect is treating someone how you want to be treated, and actually empathising with said person. "Eye, for an eye" logic is nothing more than selfish narcissism that's willing to corporate, but only to the smallest extent needed to fulfil it's own need for respect and empathy, assuming that it's in it's best interest. Genuine respect and civility is empathising with those who aren't willing to show you the same basic respect and human decency. It's going out of your way to forgive those who have wronged you, and treat even those who are most removed from your everyday experiences like actual human beings. most people on this site seem to fully understand this very basic concept, and that's why it's a shame that others are willing to take advantage of that.

The worst part is that you're not even willing or able to follow basic "eye, for an eye" logic. Nothing Fleur has said or done on this site justified what you did. Fleurs "gehy," and edgy threads do not justify you implying that he should kill himself, or that it's ok to wish death upon people you don't like or disagree with.

You can't just say things like that without knowing someone's IRL situation, especially in a place like this where it's pretty much granted that something like that has actually happened to at least one person on the site. Most people on this site, (including me) have a handful of bad personalities traits, but they know when to stop, and can actually be reasoned with. Colored ID's Is there a way you guys could add an option to turn on colored ID's for /ef/ like 4chan/8chan? I ask because it makes it kinda complicated to see which anon is which when reading through a thread. You have to read through all those weird numbers which is tedious.

Stepping Down as Mod For various reasons I will be stepping down as a mod. To name the big reasons: I have had increased responsibilities outside of pchan in recent months leaving me largely unavailable, and well, to put it simply, I wasn't really the best mod to begin with.

uBlock 3rd party list problem Somehow ponychan.net wound up listed in a third party filter list. The Fanboy+Easylist Merged list kills two birds with one stone and covers over 140,000 urls.

I shut down Fanboy+Easylist Merged and went back to the individual lists. In reality, you see no difference except that ponychan isn't barred by uBlock.

It would be wonderful to stylize posts, like intro's or dramatic phrases and the like, by selectively altering where they originate in the post window.

Perhaps, via the same formatting tag system the others do. Either per line, as to be able to control the length of said line, or for everything between the tags with an additional setting (Like the die roller, but in numbers of characters per line maybe) for how large the centering would be, which would automatically shift the text to new lines when the window is stretched or squeezed.

improving youtube embeds? notice in pic related how, on our site, you have to click the "embed" button on a youtube link to be able to see the video title, whereas on 4chan, the title IS the link.

I feel like upgrading that here would be really helpful, especially in threads where people dump a lot of youtube links that are tedious to click one by one.
