The mane color is sufficient to distinguish her from the G5 Fluttershy-- but the similarity is otherwise overwhelming, down to the shape of the curls. If you compare the character designs for the 2-D (G4) versions, you will see that a number of small distinctions have been coded into these much simpler, icon-like characters: different mane shape, different contour lines, different eye shape, slightly different eyelashes. Reading the flat characters is like reading a corporate logo or a heraldic emblem. Reading the 3-D characters requires a bit more attention, because their shared realistic textures and features add noise to the recognition process. Or so it seems to me.
