In the new comic series, G5 ponies are exploring what appears to be the dusty ruins of Canterlot, prompting someone named Ian to post the following on EQD:
This comic is essentially telling us that G5 is going to stop pretending to care about honoring its predecessor and tell us that Twilight and her friends utterly failed in their quest to create a better Equestria, that everything they and their friends fought so hard for was ultimately for nothing, and that all the characters we know and love probably lived out their days knowing they were losers and failures.
Thanks, G5. Now go buck yourself.I have a different response. This narrative reminds me of the lyric from the old Lerner and Loewe musical "Camelot"--
Ask ev'ryone if he has heard the story,
And tell it strong and clear if he has not,
That once there was a fleeting wisp of glory
Called Camelot.Fallen glories linger as legends. Even after they fall, they can rise up again in the imagination and inspire the lives of generations not yet born. I find myself singing this anthem in my head:
