One of the minor pleasures of G4 MLP was all the horsy gags, puns, and references. A currency measured in bits. Twilight putting on a saddle to go out in "Winter Wrap-Up." The CMC playing a checkers-like game with tiny horseshoes. Typewriters with two keys. RD's oath "Horseapples!" in "Fall Weather Friends." And of course, all the geography — Manehattan, Fillydelphia, Las Pegasus, Canterlot, Neighagara Falls, and so on.
Others can probably think of a lot of other G4 examples. But there doesn't seem to be a lot of this in G5. "Maretime Bay" is good, and "Bridlewood" and "Canterlogic" are okay, I guess. But magical sticky hooves have replaced the horsy mouth-handling of objects, and there seems to be a general downplaying of horse stuff. This seems like an aspect of a generally less playful approach to the world and the material. Or am I missing something?
