>>36782241Democracy is generally supposed to stop corruption from happening, but they basically found a way around that, it works like this:
1) You need to be noticed to get votes in order to get elected.
2) To get noticed, you needs lots of money and media coverage.
3) Rich benefactors, particularly with media outlets, are thus most empowered to see their buddies appointed into office.
Whoops, I don't think the founding fathers saw that one coming (but then, they lived in a very different world than we do now, and would probably think "media" was some country east of Europe).
About the only saving grace we have in all this is that
not all rich people are myopic knobs, and some of them realize that running the economy into the ground because "they got theirs" is not a great long term plan. That's why there's any pushback
at all against the knobs who have largely infiltrated the government with the three steps above.
>>36782247I think magic changes the rules a bit. The reason why unicorn, pegasus, and earth pony get along so well without any particular feelings of inequity is because they're magical creatures that are empowered by camaraderie and
get frozen to death by windigos from discord.
Consequently, the ruling alicorn race largely measures its power not in land nor bits, but rather how well their subjects are getting along, with translates to alicorn magic. They're incorruptible by virtue of altruism being their ultimate goal, not greed.
Next to that, this whole earth pony < pegasus < unicorn thing is rendered infeasible. Besides, which, earth ponies
like working the land, it's what they're magically inclined to do. Likewise, pegasi the weather, and unicorns more arcane crafts.
