So...it's primarily a science/nature show channel, huh? I really don't think mixing that type of show with cartoons is a very good formula. I weep for the Target Demographic.

That's more during prime time. During the day it'll have the kind of shows usually seen on Hub. In the evening, it'll cover various shows that are meant to feature exploration, history, animals, etc in shows meant to appeal to families.

Hasbro's shows are going to occupy timeslots between 9am and 3pm. The rest of the network is going to be Discovery shows.

FIM is still going to air at 10:30am.

There are a few other channels that do that.

I'm pretty sure NBC shows cartoons all saturday mornings, and then "normal" shows the rest of the day.

Ah yeah, it's 5pm not 3pm.

So out of the 8 hours they have, pony will be taking up 3 of them. Hah.

Not really. They only got a couple cartoons on Saturday, and even those look more like the type aimed at very little kids and/or are educational. There was even people lamenting about how there's not such thing as Saturday morning cartoons anymore now that the CW has ended Vortexx (the last rendition of the Fox Box/4Kids TV/Toonzai), and most cartoons are shown on channels that are nothing but or are mostly cartoons.

>So out of the 7 hours they have, pony will be taking up 3 of them. Hah.
3 out of 12 hours actually. Hasbro gets 5 AM to 5 PM.

im not saying that it is weird having this shows on the channel.

is just that it look out of place in the commercial. because they are not even shows which fit in the exploration and knowledge things.

Yeah, History Channel is a much greater offender, but Discovery has certainly tested the waters of contemporary docufiction, perhaps even popularized it.

Anyways, yeah... Not sure how much I like the change. it does make me very worried for hasbro in this department.

I mean, they bought a channel specifically to insure the safety of their properties, the fact that its not going financially well as an experiment makes me worry that it could cause repercussions for their franchises.

It's not that The Hub was doing bad, it's that it was not doing as good as CN/Nick.

Which was very unrealistic to begin with; that they expected to tackle the two cartoon giants and successfully compete with them in just four years.

>it could cause repercussions for their franchises

FIM is still insanely popular. Transformers is still insanely popular. LPS is still (somewhat) popular.

As long as their franchises are popular, they're not going anywhere. That and, both Hasbro and Discovery know that FIM/Transformers etc are the only thing keeping the channel from fading into obscurity.

The way I look at it, Discovery always had a stake in The HUB, it was co-owned between Hasbro and them from the start. The main thing that's happened is Hasbro has decided to give Discovery a larger stake and allow them to re-brand the channel as a Discovery affiliate, but Hasbro still has the time slots for their original programming. If I had to guess, the main reason behind this change was probably because Hasbro was having a hard time filling all their time slots, while Discovery has tons of programming. So Hasbro just kept as many slots as they reliably had programming for, meaning this is probably not the change that's going to lead to MLP:FIM coming to an end.

Of course, the future is never a certain thing. Television networks are probably facing an uphill battle with the widespread proliferation of the Internet. This will result in a scaling back of channels and time slots. What then? Will MLP:FIM float to the top as one of the few shows worthy of the remaining time slots? Will it migrate into the web? Will some corporate boneheaded moves kill the series regardless of the environment? Your guess is as good as mine.

Personally, I'm keeping an eye out for DHX, particularly the Studio B acquisition. Those guys seem to be pretty talented.

So here's something I'm wondering now:
If MLP starts airing on other channels, will they start just airing S1 or S1 and S2 for a year or so before gradually releasing each season, or start out of the gate showing from S1 to S4?

(also interested in if this will increase viewership or not once they start doing multiple channels.)

Nah, you missed the point. Mucha Lucha wasn't there to make fun of Mexican stereotypes or latin culture. Mucha Lucha was a one-trick pony whose trick was, "cartoon super-power-enhanced Lucha Lubre is awesome!"

Gotta admit, some of the stuff they came up with, such as those wacky signature moves, was pretty creative. Granted, El Tigre was even more clever than that.

I don't think it was making fun of Mexican stereotypes, it was meant to celebrate them as far as I could tell: doesn't mean it was any more enjoyable.

Like, I enjoyed Nacho libre's Luchador stuff, but just found mucha lucha's attempts to go over the top with Luchador stuff annoying and uninspired.

Hell, I found most every other Luchador type scenario better than much lucha, like the Absurd (but still entertaining) Luchador episode from angel.

Woah. That actually looks like it has really good production values (although the style of 4Kids dubbing is all over it). I've seen Ultimate M.U.S.C.L.E. toys around but I had no idea there was a cartoon like that.

Hitting up wikipedia, I see what happened. The toys had been around since the 1980s from a Japanese-created manga series, but there were three recent anime series that aired around 2002-2006, and I was not really watching much of the Fox Box around that time.

Weird that the same dubbing company that would change a character's name from Gazelleman to that would later alter the name Ace to Trace supposedly because of the name possibly referencing cards and therefore gambling, as well as being the name of an alcoholic drink (which I didn't know until I looked up why they would change his name).

>>36780894
It's actually considered one of 4Kids best dubs. Like a legitimately enjoyable dub. They're even the ones who went and ordered an extra season so that the series didn't end in the middle of an arc.

Still probably didn't help that they went and toned down a lot of the darker and more emotional stuff (a lot of which happened to be in an extra season that they also ordered), as well as getting some things wrong like what chaos control was due to the ones in charge not knowing anything about the games, comics, or past shows before getting the job. It's also sort of a shame they didn't leave in Live and Learn playing in the background during the end of the SA2 adaption.
