Perhaps a salamander? They're sometimes known for being associated with fire and the sun, a reference to her name and color scheme.

It can also be associated with adaptability, evolution, and rebirth, in reference to both, how Sunset managed to become adjusted to human life after once living in a pony world, and how she's managed to reform herself into a good person.

I've owned veiled chameleons (Chamaeleo calyptratus). They're weird, fascinating, and grotesquely beautiful animals, but they can be aggressive and vicious, especially the males.

Sunset Shimmer needs a pet that starts out nasty and turns nice. A butterfly?

Sunset actually strikes me as a dog person. Not a little lap-dog either, but a large, active dog.

A horse (she's too old to ride a pony) would fit her too, but would raise all sorts of questions, both practical and otherwise.

I'm just pointing out that RR pretty much squashed the idea of their being any romance between those two at all by showing flash pretty much obsessing over twilight while ignoring Sunset (and sunset pretty much saying "never cared about him anyways")

The funny thing about flash is how much he raged at Twilight about "stealing" the battle of the bands from him, but looking at the elimination chart his band NEVER played against the rainbooms before getting knocked out;

Meaning he's basically a total scrub throwing a hissy fit when he doesn't even have the chops to beat the other competition, let alone Twilight.

Well he lost in the semifinals, and since the Rainbooms went up against the Illusions, that means his band went up against and lost to the brainwashing sirens who control the judges, AKA the Dazzlings.

Are they competing to see who has more magical power, or more musical talent? Cause when it comes to the latter, it's not really a fair match with the Dazzlings being able to brain wash people through magic singing, and the Rainbooms beat the Dazzlings through a magic battle, not through difference in actual music talent.

I don't think that's fair to say the Rainbooms weren't superior in musical talent to the Sirens.

I feel that, in order for the counterspell to work, they needed to be better at singing and music in addition to possessing musical abilities.


I think that was kind of the only reason the Sirens could keep up against the mane six was that it was on "Their" playing field, one of music, rather than straight magic.

Judging by how well the Dazzlings sang once their gems were crushed, I think it's implied that they don't have much musical talent, that was all magical glamor.

Though, to their credit, I suppose if I were born a magical musical seductress who sings perfectly by default, I wouldn't see much point in practicing either.

I don't know about lizards, but I had a pet fancy rat [en.wikipedia.org] when I was a kid, and they are quite cute and nice.

Except they seem to pee on everything and everyone, their owners included. Some people think that's advanced marking behavior, but personally I just think they don't have any bladder control. Fortunately, they're so tiny compared to us that it's barely anything.

Not sure if I recommend them as pets though. The main problem with keeping a rat for a pet is they only live for two or three years. :( Also, if you breed them, expect most of their babbies to become snake food.

If you're a creature that's inherently magical and that's how you've always sung (like the sirens), faulting them for being unable to Sing without magic is kind of like faulting a person for being unable to walk on prosthetic legs the second they've put them on.


I mean, magic is biology for Equestrian creatures after all, so it's kind of like asking someone to try and speak perfectly after having a stroke; The dazzles need to figure out exactly WHAT singing without magic is like kind of like a person would have to do physical therapy to try and speak properly again.

You know, on that note, did anyone else not like how fluttershy's short anthropomorphized the gerbils? I mean, I kind of feel that the animals being intelligent and behaving in a human like manner is something that should be left in equestria: "Normal" animals in the human world should act just like animals, and not like funny humanlike creatures.
