It's that time of the year again, folks... the time were I ask myself "Why the hell am I still here enjoying the show?"

I mean, 5 years of pony... something tells me we bit off more than we can chew here. And with Equestria Academy practically confirmed, I'm even more scared of what will happen in the future... I keep asking myself "We never should made this show popular. If we just kept it nice and small... none of this would've happened..." I don't know, I tend to ask myself this when the fandom's at its worst... How much more insanity can we really take here?

P.S. I now like Littlest Pet Shop. First 1980's Care Bears, 2003 Strawberry Shortcake, MLP:FiM, and now this. I hate myself for liking cute things.

Oh no, a spinoff TV show that will (presumably) have no effect on the original. How horrible.

People said the fandom would die after S3, and then the fandom would die after EQG, and then the fandom would die after S4...you can't really "kill" something that is incredibly popular. Just like how people keep saying each new MMORPG released will "kill" WoW. (protip: they won't)

FIM will stop airing when it stops being popular. And right now it's still The Hub Discovery Family Network's most popular show, by far.

If we "kept nice and small", we wouldn't have made it past S3. Seeing as the LPS fandom is so tiny, I'm having some small doubts that it will get renewed for a fourth season.

Correct. As of October 10th, The Hub will have been on the air for exactly four years.

...and on October 13th they're rebranding to Discovery Family Network. (but keeping FIM, LPS, Transformers, etc)

Yeah, I think it was either during S4, or shortly before S4, one of the Hasbro execs said that they plan on keeping FIM running for at least 5 more years, or something like that.

Which isn't surprising, seeing as their reports keep saying it's the most popular girls' toy right now, and how it's selling so much and giving them so much profit.

All fandoms are monsters. Its just how things work. That aside though, I find that its easier to enjoy something in moderation, so take breaks and relax from the show and fandom for a bit. Makes the insanity more tolerable.

"we" couldn't have kept it nice and small, it was good so it got popular on it's own merit. It's awfully egotistical for fans to take credit for something becoming popular, don't you think?

MLP was just a perfect storm. It had prior iterations that were well known. Season 1 had really good designs, world building, and writing. It was able to charm and appeal to many age groups across both genders.

The internet fandom that popped up around it helped accelerate it's growth, but that was something no group could control. There was no decision to be made. We're individually powerless except to sit back and watch where the tide of humanity will take something. It's like a force of nature.

The ride never ends.

And then FIM comes along and blows everyone's mind with how great it was, at least in comparison. Everyone was expecting more 10-minute toy commercials, and instead we got a genuinely good cartoon.

I wouldn't worry about "We never should have made the show popular." First, because (as it's already been said) this was no forced meme, the show was that good. Second, because a lot of supposed bronies were just trend-followers, they've chalked up pony as passe, so our hipster props are in the process of being renewed out the other side.

Cute things of a certain type can be enjoyable.

For example, I enjoy a good number of "cute" anime drawings and shows (Like MLP as an example XD, or the like).


On the other hand, I hate visually unappealing Glurge or things that are nothing BUT adorable; hell, whenever I have to babysit an sit through standard children's entertainment (Good god I hate mickey mouse clubhouse)
