This is a thread to post daily practice sheets to make sure I keep up my goals.
If anyone else would like to join in and post a practice sheet a day, I'd love that. We can yell at each other if we miss a day.

This one's a simple 'draw circles everywhere' practice

This is the same practice method, but drawing them in reverse. I usually draw my circles counter-clockwise but only drawing them that way gives my muscle memory a limited scope.

I forgot to mention with this practice it's important to start aiming the circles around and inside each other to help accuracy fitting things together

Cross hatch practice.

I should explain why I'm doing this:

It's a practice method to train eye-hand coordination and get a well rounded muscle memory to nail strokes with better accuracy and consistency. I start with circles and basic lines and move on to more complex shapes

I tackled the S's next since they were giving me the most trouble. I'm surprised how quick doing these is appearing to help. I'm also picking up on little tips to get more accurate strokes like figuring out certain grips that are more comfortable

Definitely taking a longer break now. I can tell the muscle cramps are affecting the quality.
I think I'll go back and do the diagonal lines practice but attempt more of them per box, along with the S and this practice

For day 6 I've been up around 36 hours unable to sleep and crash coursing a new department at work. I'm going to allow myself to miss today's practice due to the fact I don't think I can hold a drawing utensil steady at the moment and even then I doubt I'd be making any meaningful progress with the time allocated. Also I'm tired and just want to lay in this cloud that my bed has become.
I got a day off tomorrow though and I intend on making up for it.

With this practice I was feeling a little off while doing it. Like I couldn't find a comfortable position to sit while writing, or my grip felt awkward. I tried to make more lines per box with this one and I'll do the same with the previous practices as the days go on. I'm not sure I'll be able to complete another one of these larger practice sheets tomorrow (and any morning I work) since I already have to get up a little earlier than I'm currently used to and these can take around an hour to complete.
I'm sure it's the day I missed along with attempting more lines that caused the awkwardness. But like, how are you supposed to sit while drawing, is there a specific distance from the writing canvas and height from the chair? My back feels a bit of strain after drawing for 30 minutes and only gets more pronounced as time goes on. I'm thinking it's my crappy chair but I don't want to go spending some cash on something if it's a habit in my sitting

Another quick one since work. I like choosing the circle ones for these since they're relatively quick and I feel are a great choice for nailing down often. I got to draw tons of circular like stuff when drawing pones, and every time I do these it seems to get a little easier.
I'm really glad I decided to do these daily practice posts. I've had a day or two where I felt like before with little motivation to pick up the tablet, but with this it helps me push through that and see why I love doing this

I made a very stupid mistake in my ellipses practice by not switching from clockwise to counterclockwise (vice versa) on the turning point here. I deleted the post but I'm putting it back up as a reminder to watch my form when practicing

Thanks. I'm glad the practice I'm putting in is doing something. I've got to start having them face different directions though. I'm getting the distasteful habit of drawing them facing the left from the viewer and at a downish angle

Now that I've got some income I've been looking at tablets to buy and I'm torn between picking up an Intuos or forking up and getting a Cintique. I'm fearing that if I get an Intuos it's not going to be much different than upgrading from a Bamboo tablet. But the Cintique is 3x the price of the Intuos

I'm down a day or so on the practice sheets, but I've definitely been practicing still. I've started to doodle little practice methods whenever I have some free time and drawing tools, and at my job we got carboard boxes by the truckloads and sharpies to mark stuff with. I found I really enjoy the feel of the two together for drawing stuff

I've been focusing on spheres and squares mainly as a starting point. From some tips I've seen, squares, spheres and cylanders are the 3 main shapes most things are similar to. I'll definitely keep those shapes in mind though once I get these down better. I appreciate the advice

Spheres, boxes, and cylinders are good foundations. I highly, highly recommend setting up horizon line and learn how to set up 1-point and 2-point perspective boxes so that you know what a good box looks like. Once you have that ingrained in your subconscious you can begin free-handing them.

There's a video course by Marshall Vandruff that was made in the 90s that is still a standard for teaching perspective today:

I paid $12 for it. I''m giving it to you, and whoever else wants it, for free. I highly recommend it. Vandruff speaks clear and concise about how to go about figuring out perspective and the learning basics of it.
