Gather round, Ponychanners! I'm going to tell you a story!

It’s February 8th, and Ponychan has been in existence for exactly one year! So, with that being said, it is now time for me to tell you a little story, also known as “the most complete Ponychan history I’ve ever tried to write or even seen someone try to write.” It’s not done yet, but I’m trying to make it as in-depth and all-inclusive as possible! So far, it’s got almost 3000 words! Now then, let me begin ruining /arch/ with some intense textwalling.

Once upon a time, in the magical land of 4chan...

It was October 2010. A brand new channel was replacing Discovery Kids. A channel named the Hub. And on that channel, there was a cartoon named My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic that gained quite a bit of popularity on 4chan's /co/ board. At first it was just a small community of recurring threads, tripfriends, and anons. This cheery little group adopted a name for its members: "brony," a portmanteau of "bro" and "pony." Gradually, this community of bronies began to grow in size. Bits and pieces of it began to spread to other boards on 4chan, partially due to some well-laid plans of the early bronies. Around late December 2010 and early January 2011, (around the time a Trixie role-player named Sethisto created Equestria Daily), these bronies spread their influence to 4chan's most infamous (and arguably worst board), /b/. And, much to the surprise of some of the /co/ bronies, /b/ latched onto the show.

At the start, /b/ only had a few bronies, and a thread reaching bump limit or image limit was more of a surprise than it had been on /co/ in the early days. But, much faster than on /co/, the pony threads on /b/ exploded in popularity--and, in doing so, attracted a great number of parasprites. As a way of dealing with these parasprites, these early /b'/ronies developed a set of guidelines for ignoring or responding to them. Namely, the concept of treating them with love, tolerance, friendship, and kindness. This method proved a great way of not only deterring these parasprites, but also a way of luring them into becoming /b'/ronies themselves, and, eventually, thanks to /b'/ronies who liked the system and parasprite-converts who had had their hearts melted by it, the love and tolerance became an accepted philosophy for use by the /b'/ronies in general.

As a side note, just a month or so before this, Sergeant Sprinkles wrote his infamous fanfic “Cupcakes,” in which Pinkie Pie kills Rainbow Dash and bakes her entrails into cupcakes. In addition to this, around this time, Shoe Brony had made shoe designs centered around the ponies, which were being sold on Zazzle.com until they were taken down for copyright infringement, and Eurobeat Brony’s Super Ponybeat remixes were immensely popular.

Into February, the pony threads in /b/ began to undergo some changes. In addition to love and tolerance slowly becoming more than just a way to deal with parasprites, tripcodes and names became more common, and a community of regulars had distinctly formed. A man who we know as !!Celestia, then known as Orange Blaze, wanted to give this community a more parasprite-free place to talk about their beloved ponies. Using the magic of Kusaba X, he created Ponychan.

Today, my dear pony friends, marks the one year anniversary of the day Ponychan went live. At the start, Ponychan had only five boards: /pony/ for pony discussion, /pic/ for pictures, /a/ for art, /st/ for stories, and /meta/ for site discussion. As time went by, Orange created several boards, including /hi/ for introductions, /art/ for art, /fic/ for >fanfiction, and /ot/ for off-topic discussion. /ep/, the episode discussion board, was placed right next to /pic/, making Ponychan /ep//pic/. Only the default Burichan and Futaba themes were initially available, but soon, a Twilight theme was added. Orange enlisted several mods in this time as well: Crimson Risk, Blazing Star!shinePDjpQ, Arctic Tempest/Big McIn!ToshdAyGxE, Rain bro!Dash/xVjEY, Storm!Bolt.QLPWU, cherry !SundaEd9qU, Brofessor Brony, and Twilight!sPArkLeqpc. These mods soon became known as !!Rarity, !!Scootaloo, !!PinkiePie, !!RainbowDash, !!Fluttershy, !!Dərpy, !!Applejack, and !!Twilight, respectively. Twilight was the very first mod.

Around this time, there was talk of merging with FiMchan, the /co/lts' pony imageboard, (http://fim.413chan.net/oatmeal/res/931.html) which had been created a mere day before Ponychan, but these plans ultimately never came to fruition, mainly due to the different natures of the /co/ and /b/ thread communities. The /co/ threads contained mostly anonymous posters and were more focused on discussing the show, writing fics, and drawing art, whereas the /b/ threads were more community-oriented and had more of a focus on love, tolerance, friendship, and kindness. In spite of this, however, many of the bronies in this time frame frequented both of the major communities.

Another notable event in February was Operation: Ponies for Bronies. (http://www.ponychan.net/chan/80/pony/res/14299.html) This was an operation started by Blazing Starshine when she heard that the McDonald's Happy Meal pony toys were being phased out soon. She went to McDonald's, stocked up on the ponies, and distributed them to her fellow bronies (at the time, the term "pegasister" didn't exist and most girls were happy with "brony").

All in all, February was a fairly exciting time. It was the second great boom in the pony fandom's population, and a lot of precedents and things that still affect us today originated from that month. It had some great threads, such as this one: (http://www.ponychan.net/chan/80/pony/res/13414.html). And it ended with another big bang.

On February 26th, 2011, a rogue /b/ mod decided he had had quite enough of the ponyf'aggotry on his beloved board, so he went into the active pony thread and banned all the bronies in it for two weeks. Naturally, they evaded the bans using proxies and by resetting their modems, but the bans kept coming, and even spread to /co/, which by that point largely didn't want much of anything to do with the /b/ threads and considered itself a separate entity. The chaos continued on the 28th when a /b/ mod linked to Ponychan, saying it was where all the bronies were organizing and discussing the use of proxies to ban evade and continue "spamming the board with ponies." The /b/tards went wild and proceeded to launch the most successful raid they've ever had against Ponychan. Being composed largely of ex-/b/tards itself, the gore and porn that Ponychan was blasted with did little to offend. However, the /b/tards did more than just spam--they also reported the site to the hosting company for hosting material the company disapproved of. And they did it at a time when no moderators were online to delete the raid content. As a result, that night, Ponychan went down.

What followed was a brief, amused panic among the bronies. Orange created a Ponychan Status Tumblr (http://www.ponychan-status.tumblr.com) and switched to a new host. By 10:30 AM the next day, March 1st, Ponychan was back with a ~~vengeance~~ love. The old site had been saved right before it went down the previous night by “a kind anonpony,” and in gratitude, Orange set it up permanently at http://www.ponychan.net/chan/80/ , ready to usher in a new age of Ponychan prosperity. On that same day, Ponychan’s first meme, TOOT, was born. An anonpony posted a picture of Pinkie Pie blowing her party noisemaker from “Griffon the Brush-Off” accompanied by a series of TOOTs, and !!Scootaloo mod (also known as Blazing Starshine) added a fake ban message saying (USER WAS TOOT TOOT TOOT TOOT TOOT TOOT TOOT TOOT TOOT FOR THIS POST). It caused a sensation, and soon, TOOT was derailing threads and getting threads devoted to it, as well as becoming slang that is used in the place of just about any naughty word. Toot is still occasionally used by oldfriends to this very day, as they have fond memories of it.

On March 10th, TwilightSpark1e!Magicvjd0s posted >>/arch/1, the very first archived thread ever. The story was touching enough that a poster named Shimmer notified Lauren Faust of it on her DeviantArt. She entered the thread and posted in it, supporting the OP, much to the amazement of many other bronies. The thread was stickied and led to the creation of Twilight’s Library, Ponychan’s archive of its greatest threads.

Ponychan continued to grow in popularity, eclipsing FiMchan as the more popular Friendship is Magic imageboard, and the users reveled in the pony madness. The site’s first image dərp occurred in a great thread on March 12th, which is still visible at >>/arch/503. On March 14th, >>/arch/411 was posted and the day became known as Pinkie Pi Day. Giggle at the Ghostly was autoplayed and the new Pinkie Pie theme was introduced. /pony/ became sillier and sillier by the day, much to the joy of most, and the annoyance of others. On /arch/, a board which had been created when /ot/ and /hi/ were merged earlier, Ponychan’s very first serial thread was created by PSP!uEGUW52lhU—the “How Are You?” threads, then known as “How is everypony?” Popular memes of the time were variations on the Shrugpony, the original of which had been drawn by /co/ drawfriend Megasweet in January, TOOT, and MrYaridovich’s famous video “My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic provides a realistic interpretation of life in Ponyville.” Shrugponies were the topic of the thread that was /pony/’s 19999 get, as a random bit of pointless trivia. One of the longest threads ever made (before freakin’ TKC came along) started with the simple sentence “This is a pony.” (>>/arch/1028) In addition to the admin, Ponychan’s mods got in on the pony fun: >>/arch/1948 was created on a whim by !!PinkiePie.

On March 22nd, two major things happened: the site software was upgraded, creating an older version of the “Now 20% Cooler!” front page you see today. The site’s frames were removed, making way for the blue bar you still see at the top of the screen today. The other notable event that occurred on this day was the announcement of the Ponychan theme contest. !!Celestia asked for posters to make pony-related themes for the site, and several of them were chosen and added to the themes. You can see the winners in your Themes menu, and the ones that didn’t win, in addition to older versions of the winners, on http://www.ponychan.net/chan/themes/ which I sincerely hope is never deleted.

Another very famous aspect that Ponychan was picking up was that it was a very kind, tolerant, and civil community. Sensitive topics like religion could be discussed without too much drama, and people would actually come to Ponychan for advice of all sorts. One brony who had picked up a bit of a reputation for being helpful toward others, Nature Blossom, went to bed on the night of March 23rd with a bit of a message for his fellow Ponychanners on /pony/: >>/arch/3224. The thread was stickied by !!PinkiePie and archived after a while.

The very next day, on March 24th, Ponychan reached a milestone: 1000 unique IP addresses had posted on the site. !!Dərpy threw a mod party on /pony/ that !!Celestia and the rest of the mods got in on as well. It was truly a time of jubilation.

On March 29th, another one of the greatest events in Ponychan history occurred: Jayson Thiessen visited (>>/arch/6286) for a quick message to the bronies, and a brief Q/A. He confirmed that it was legit on his Twitter (@GoldenRusset).

As idyllic as it may seem, things weren’t necessarily perfect on Ponychan in March (or any month for that matter). On that very day, Ponychan had its very first mod loss: !!PinkiePie had lost his status as a moderator. Quite a bit of drama was stirred up on March 25th when YouTube closed popular pony episode uploader MAST3RLINKX’s account down for copyright infringement due to parasprites who claimed to be Hasbro. In addition, raids were a common occurrence. The mods usually took care of them fairly quickly, but some of the Ponychanners had developed a bit of a sensitivity to gore and other such things, and for some, who had never browsed an imageboard before, the materials that the raiders used were new to them. >>/arch/5782 was originally created as a response to one such raid.

There were a few regular tripfriend parasprites that should probably also be mentioned. One was Hit’’Iar (whose name is wordfiltered), and Marceline the Vampire Queen (No, not the one you see today. That poster went by Cyberpony in those days.) Hit’’Iar posted pictures of Hitler and verbalized his hate of ponies in a terribly imitated German accent. Marceline posted Marceline from Adventure Time and made several threads a night, many of which derailed into a bit of immaturity and minor drama.

In spite of a bit of drama, however, Ponychan bravely waltzed into April. On April 1st, “April Foals Day” occurred. !!Celestia had played some pranks on the users by giving their posts random ##Kick Me## capcodes. Steven Magnet, already a popular poster, got the special ##Steven## capcode. In addition to this, some posts’ pictures had little hats on them. As April progressed, Steven Magnet’s threads began to grow in popularity…

April was not without drama either, of course. There was also a bit of a debate over whether or not furries should be loved and tolerated, the main arguments against them being that they would make the fandom look bad. On April 8th, >>/arch/ 9135 was first posted, and I’m not going to go into detail about it because it wasn’t a very proud moment in our history, but basically, a parasprite named Violent J (in addition to others) caused some drama in a thread, and things escalated so much that the thread ended up being archived as an example of what not to do. In addition to this, on April 16th, a bit of drama occurred when 4chan went down and some bored /b/ posters came to Ponychan, were unaccustomed to the rules, and had a bad encounter with !!Twilight and !!Trixie, who had been recently modded (but who, ironically, was from /b/ himself.)

Meanwhile, the lack of serious pony-related threads in /pony/ drove !!Celestia, after a brief debate in a stickied thread on /pony/, to rename it to /oat/, a board for all the pony-related randomness that had taken place in /pony/ previously. This occurred on April 19th. /ep/ was renamed to /pony/, eliminating Ponychan’s /ep//pic/ status, but giving the seriousfriends a place to overanalyze the show as they so loved to do. On that same day (>>/arch/26159) auctions for some of Lauren’s original sketches started, and, although it isn’t in that thread, Lauren did come to Ponychan to discuss a purchase of a Pinkie Pie sketch with a poster named Lady Draconic, who had sold many of her possessions to get the money for said sketch. April also gave us the first TKC thread: >>/arch/20601.

April was a month of optimism as well. >>/arch/16458 and >>/arch/17356 were both posted during that time, and the opinions reflected within were not uncommon in that time. In spite of the occasional drama and raids, bronies generally kept their chins high and enjoyed their ponies just the same as always.

Another thing that happened in April was a surge in the popularity of Homestuck and roleplaying. Initially, this mostly happened on /oat/ and /pony/, but soon, after some consideration, the /rp/ board, which was going to get deleted because it got almost no traffic, became one of the fastest, most inhabited boards on the site. In this way, drama involving the roleplayers was averted.

By the way, there were nostalgia threads. Ponychan nostalgia threads. In April. A month most people get nostalgic about now. This just goes to show how subjective nostalgia itself is.

When May 1st came, however, a little bit of trouble happened. Ponychan collapsed on itself due to a server issue, and all the Ponychanners, once again, had few places to go. Some chose to go to /b/, and were welcomed by the bronies (and “America, Fuck Yeah!” autoplaying Osama Bin Laden thread) there. Others went to /co/ and had a bit of a nasty surprise when they discovered that, over the months, /co/ had developed quite the dislike for Ponychan due to stricter moderation, the “love and tolerance” of Ponychan, and an association with /b/, which some of them held a bit of a grudge against. By the end of that day, the site came back up.

Then, with May 6th came the end of the season. The summer had begun, and there was fear in the hearts of the bronies. Fear that the summer would be long and grueling without ponies. >>/arch/28630 was posted on /oat/ in response to this, and indeed, many bronies seemed intent on making the summer as painless as possible.

/oat/ was reaching breaking point in its silliness, with things like !!Celestia changing post numbers to steal GETs, awesome metal embeds by !!Cheerilee mod (also known as Nature Blossom, who unfortunately also went through a depressive Batman phase at this time)(>>/arch/29354), SYRUP OF ALLTHINGS OH MY GOD WHY, goggles, and gyrobowls. With the summer also came Equestria Girls, which contained the show’s very first “true” shout-out to its fans, in the form of the line “our bronies hang out too, cause they know we’re awesome fillies!” This, unfortunately, caused some drama on Ponychan when it was autoplayed later that month (>>/arch/2484012), but all in all, /oat/ was at its funniest and silliest in May. Other notable events were !!Cheerilee getting pulled into a little bit of drama involving a poster named Haackula (which !!Cheerilee handled quite well), and, a bit later, !!Cheerilee stepping down completely as a mod.

As Ponychan saddled up for the month of June, one last memorable thread happened. A user named lemon!lime20x4CA made a thread on /oat/ to say that he wasn’t looking forward to the next day. It quickly became apparent that his intent was to end it all the very next day, which led to a panic. However, then-!!PinkiePie mod Corrie Pie intervened and, following a precedent set by a similar incident earlier involving a poster named Star!Shadow, reported the IP address to the police in the area. In a haze of drama, arguing, and other such bad things, the only person absent was the OP of the thread. And while he got a lot of less-than-helpful replies, he also got a lot of replies that really did help him feel better, and, in the end, Lemon returned with the reply “Thank you all so much, I really, truly appreciate all the responses I get, and it's been amazing reading them all because I've never talked to anypony about how I've really felt at times. I've felt at times that nopony has understood me, I'm sorry if my message is not satisfactory or deep enough, but I really love you guys, thanks so much.” to the relief of everybody who had been following the thread, which, by that point, was a considerable number. June marked another boom in the general population of the fandom. As it was summertime, the younger part of the internet population was out of school and had more time to browse the internet and get hooked on random things like ponies. In addition to this, a brand new site had just opened up: MyLittleBrony.com, the new pony-themed Memebase. Factors like these affected the Ponychan population in several ways. A lot of newfriends were pouring in, and Ponychan was growing and growing and growing. June was also the month of ferris wheels, a meme which originated from a HawkeyePierce thread on /oat/. The thread had devolved into shippy roleplays between Rarity Sauce and Lucky Streak, much to the amusment of watching Ponychanners. More ferris wheel roleplays happened all across /oat/, and from there, the shipping roleplay traditions you still see today from time to time were born.

Of course, just like in the modern day, these ships were a cause of controversy among the moderation team and users. !!Spike mod (later identified as Steven Magnet) in particular cracked down on the ferris wheels like none other. This led to much joking and ribbing later on (>>/arch/2502168), and many a /meta/ derail occurred in a thread about !!Spike, ferris wheels, and shipping. /meta/ was best board back in the day. In that same first half of the month, we had things like mod scavenger hunts, ask-a-mod threads, and the infamous board /whydoesntspikehaveanylegs/. It was peacetime on Ponychan.

Oh, awesome. Happy birthday, Ponychan! I'll be honest, I'm really surprised that I joined a month after this site came into existence. I would not have assumed it was so brand new, considering how tightly-knit the community was at my time of arrival.

You know that odd feel you get just after climbing a mountain in the rain in winter?

As you look out over the landscape the repetetive splashing of the droplets slows to a dull background hum, the condensed breath before your eyes seems to drift lazily across as a cloud would, and the very touch of Jack Frost seems to release its grip on your skin.
Then as you look away the slowed time seems to turn again, and your senses snap back into place?

It is an interesting feel isn't it.

On June 15th, the gentle roar of oatmeal was interrupted. On that day, one poster from the /co/ MLP generals named Faceless decided to come to Ponychan for some paraspriting. He concocted a story about how he needed medical help but didn’t have the money for it, and posted his PayPal link. Many fell for it, and in the end he managed to get $124 out of his scam, all of which he blew on pony scat rule 34 commissions. It should be noted that his actions were condemned by both Ponychan and /co/. Although most people on /co/ at the time agreed that they didn’t like Ponychan, they also agreed that fraud was an enormous dick move on his part. However, the scam proved quite the shitstorm, and made the wall between Ponychan and /co/ both thicker and taller.

The second half of June was decidedly less dramatic again on Ponychan , but let’s face it, still pretty fucking wild. On the 19th, thanks to Amonisis and a few other posters derailing a thread, the Sweetie Belle Derelle meme wAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAs born. (>>/arch/2498537) Quite a few people disliked it and found it annoying, and the moderators had to step in and say that intentional derailments of threads with the Sweetie Belle Derelle would result in a ban. Nonetheless, the exploitable face and trAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAdemark extending of AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA’s spread to both /b/ and /co/, and is still occasionally used today. And damn, it produced a TON of OC for such a short period of time.

Then July 4th came, and with it, a decision by !!Celestia, enforced by !!RainbowDash, was begun. (http://www.ponychan.net/chan/oat/res/36071548.html) In an effort to make /oat/ less /arch/ty and more pony related, !!RainbowDash moved several threads out of /oat/ and into /arch/. The first of these was Ember Storm’s /oat/ serial. Naturally, a rapid change like this caused quite a bit of drama amongst the community. After all, it was a move of an entire board community onto another board, which already had a pre-existing community. The old /arch/ters and g/oat/s didn’t mix as well as they should have, mainly due to the differences in the two boards. /arch/ had been a fairly slow board, and /oat/ a fairly fast one, and both of them felt that the /oat/ community was out of place on /arch/. However, eventually, they got used to each other and lived on /arch/ in harmony harmony oh love~

Unfortunately, July drama took its toll on two of Ponychan’s mods. Twilight decided to step down, saying he was sick of the drama and fake love, in a thread that he demanded that the other mods do not sticky. The thread was stickied anyway.

In addition to !!Twilight, !!Spike/Steven Magnet left, in a similar cloud of drama involving a personal (and all too public) dispute with !!Celestia himself.

There was, unfortunately, still a bit more drama to come. Toward the very end of July, the Oslo bombings happened, and a poster named Kim Fluttershy Dykas claimed that his father had died in this bombing. The /arch/ community gave him their support and condolences, and he had his thread about it archived and everything. However, the names of all the victims were released, and there was no sign of a Dykas in there. Kim admitted to his lie in the end, and was promptly given a ban.

August, thankfully, was comparatively drama free. /arch/ was becoming more and more popular by the day, and becoming closer and closer to the way /arch/ is today. More serial threads began popping up, including the Love and Advice threads, started by Circuit Mane. TKC become more of a force, and became a hideout for old /oat/ bronies who felt out of place on /arch/. Epic Mount had a thing called /arch/meal going for a while, but, as you may be able to tell, that has since died out. One interesting thing to note about the time was a loose formation of /meta/ regulars who would immediately derail a /meta/ thread after it ran its course. Several funny derails happened during this time period, and the members of this /meta/ derail squad joked that it was no their favorite board. [?]And after a while, some of them began to really mean that.[?]

On August 14th, !!Scootaloo invited people from /co/ onto Ponychan to discuss differences and disagreements between the two communities. Everything went better than expected in the thread, and Ponychan and /co/ enjoyed a brief period of being on relatively good terms. /co/ was in a fairly relaxed mood for most of the rest of that day, much to the pleasure of a few Ponychanners who also happened to be /co/lts. The thread went so well that some Ponychanners decided to go for an encore and invite posters from /b/ as well. This led to a rekindling of the old fire of friendship between the /b/ pony threads and Ponychan, which had flickered for a bit due to clashes involving mods. This friendship would prove valuable two months later.

With September came a new board called /metachat/, after the decision that /meta/ was getting too silly. Lots of bronies really liked /metachat/, as it reminded them of the /oat/ they had lost. The /meta/ regulars also quite enjoyed it. It was not to last, but it did have several rather fun threads. During the second half of the month, the second season of MLP began at last. On the night of the 16th, before the episode aired, mods stickied a thread on /oat/ proclaiming a “classic /oat/ party thread” to celebrate the start of the new season. /pony/’s traffic increased, as did /oat/’s. /arch/ continued with the development of serial threads, and a John Sappington Marmaduke exploitable meme began to take root. Another notable event that occurred in September was the purging of a few threads that were no longer considered archive worthy from Twilight’s Library. Among the threads removed were a thread from /oat/ in April that began with “woah hello there officer” that derailed really hard, a thread dedicated to making the longest thread on Ponychan, and a thread involving a mash-up of several popular songs.

October was another notable month on Ponychan, for several reasons. First, at the very start of the month came the announcement that the mods would be loosening the rules on how pony-related a thread in /oat/ must be. The board wouldn’t be as lenient as it had been pre-July, but it would still be more lenient than it was at the time. This led to a derailed sticky by the relatively new !!Twilight mod and a slightly increased amount of old posters returning to /oat/, as well as a slight decrease in roleplaying on said board. October also saw the rise of various bandwagon memes on /arch/, the most famous being the ATM. Eventually, mods stepped in to put a stop to the spamming of ATM threads, but for about an hour or so on October 2nd, the entire board had derailed into different perspectives of a story involving a mugging near an ATM, which was stopped by a Rarity keychain.

Another noteworthy event in October was the return of Luna in the Halloween episode, Luna Eclipsed. Much of Ponychan was anticipating that the episode would destroy fanon, and cause a great deal of drama. Some were looking forward to it, while others were fearful of the episode’s effects on interbrony relationships on Ponychan, and within the fandom as a whole. However, these fears were all refuted. On October 22nd, the episode aired, to an overwhelmingly positive response. This was immortalized in a /pony/ thread which has now been archived. (>>/arch/2510891)

Quite alright, a simple mistake. It one of the reason why I don't use the name Basil as often anymore and opting instead for "Apples" to prevent confusion.

Why? I am not sure. I rarely ever post to begin with, yet I can't really quite lurking the site. It has a strong grasp on me which i can't escape from! It seems any moment that I am on a computer, I have a opened tab meant for lurking ol' Ponychan. Another noteworthy event in October was the return of Luna in the Halloween episode, Luna Eclipsed. Much of Ponychan was anticipating that the episode would destroy fanon, and cause a great deal of drama. Some were looking forward to it, while others were fearful of the episode’s effects on interbrony relationships on Ponychan, and within the fandom as a whole. However, these fears were all refuted. On October 22nd, the episode aired, to an overwhelmingly positive response. This was immortalized in a /pony/ thread which has now been archived. (>>/arch/2510891)

On the exact same day as the Luna episode, trouble was brewing in the /b/ pony threads. 4chan’s admin, toot, had seemingly stickied a thread demanding that the bronies all leave /b/ and go to FiMchan or Ponychan instead. Just like on February 26th, this caused quite a bit of chaos over there, with plenty of bans, evasions, and arguing. Lots of /b’/ronies decided to take refuge in Ponychan, as the two sites were on good terms at the time. Therefore, the /b/ and Friends thread was started. A lot of the bronies who left /b/ in the October bannings now consider themselves to be Ponychan regulars, and the /b/ and Friends thread is one of the most prominent serials on /arch/.

Anyways, I can't remember the exact date I first visited, but I remember when the syrup thread was first posted. Must have been sometime in April. I took a significant break from Ponychan out of shame because I was in that thread and I posted a joke in really poor taste just to, y'know, try to make him feel better I guess. I dunno how you respond to something like that. Anyways I got called out on it by someone posting as "N" and realized how awful it was and deleted the comment, but I felt so bad I couldn't face ponychan for a few weeks and then I just sort of stopped posting for a while.

In December, several memorable threads happened. Everypony was looking forward to Christmas time, and a general feeling of cheer was in the air. On /pony/, there was an anonymous gift exchange with a Google Doc and Amazon wishlists that went on for much of the month and even continued a bit into January. On December 14th, a thread (>>/arch/2512056) was made on /chat/ about a mother who owns a bakery and baked cupcakes with a four year old girl while singing an extended version of Pinkie Pie’s “Cupcakes” song. The usual Ponychan silliness was also present, most notably in a thread about snails doing “impure things” on Italo’s hand. Another notable occurence was December 20th-- the Twilight Night on /oat/.

Twilight fans had been making Twilight Appreciation Threads left and right, filling up the board with them in a sort of bandwagon. Usually, bandwagons result in bans for spam, deleted threads, and stickies requesting that the bandwagon be brought to a halt. However, this time around, !!Celestia got in on the fun. He made /oat/ force the Twilight theme and made it forced-anon, with the default name being Twilight Sparkle. He then proceeded to wordfilter each mane cast pony’s name to Twilight Sparkle as well. A few were opposed to the Twilight night, and the Twilight fans referred to this as “Hershey,” a play on the word “heresy.” It was all over far too quickly, but created some good Ponychan memories.

The start of January was marked by drama. Just within the first week, a new poster was scared off from /chat/ after being harshly criticized for having an OC, and a parasprite thread derailed into angry name-calling. Tensions lightened after a while, and perhaps partially as a response to them, !!Celestia created /ef/, a board with considerably laxer rules. /ef/ served more purpose than just being a place where people could vent without fear of banning. It was also a board where people could make threads without fear of these threads being moved elsewhere. The board was the subject of controversy, and /meta/ went aflame upon /ef/’s creation, some even saying they want to leave Ponychan because of it. And, indeed, in its first day, /ef/ was little more than spamming of words that previously couldn’t be said on any other boards. It quickly calmed down, though, and even had a thread that had so much love and >feel in it that it got archived. (>>/arch/2512663)

And then February happened again and Ponychan turned a year old and I made this thread. The end.
