This is clearly a much better idea. The bat ponies can’t fly.

They’re not old enough to have had flying lessons! The most they can do is
kind of hover awkwardly a couple of feet above the ground. A giant chasm blocks your path. There appears to be no way across or around.
The bottom is not visible, but almost certainly lined with sharp spikes and jagged
rocks that will rend your flesh from your tiny pony bones.
Surely there won’t be a problem! You can all fly across! The glowing hoofprints only go so far, considering how she flew away.
Fortunately, one of the bat ponies has a +7 sense of smell!
He can follow the scent of evil jam, leading you straight to that dastardly filly!
