First you need to choose an episode and then follow the instructions on GitHub. Will take around 120 work hours if you don't know how to use AFX and ~30 if you know. Sadly multiple people working on the same episode isn't really feasible. Feel free to ask questions, shimmermare.com has my contact info.

It's from sources. If it was "just re-rendering" I would have been done with it in a week. Basically after individual scenes were rendered I had to recompose episode frame-by-frame, recreating all scene transitions, titles and credits. And after that render it the final time. Not hard at all but time consuming.

Huh, I dont think that 4k adds much to the show, but high bitrate (not shitty itunes/etc version) does. The few episodes leaked in "raw" which are the ~30-50gb .mov are much much better in quality than the other stuff.
If every episode were to be "leaked" that way I would have an orgasm.

I'm assuming you have to painstainkingly recreate the missing FX, is that a something you have to do again from scratch with every episode, or can you sort of build a common library (magic effects, etc)?
I already have a lot of projects on my plate, but I like learning new things. If you feel like a random techie with no artistic talent might be able to get to speed in a few days, I'm interested.

For most episodes, you have to recreate only transition FX: simple fade in/outs, linear and radial wipes. The upscale script handles other effects pretty good (because I patch it for every individual ep lol). But there is cases where you have to delve deeper into more complex stuff: optical flares, particles, etc.
And there is episodes like 214 and 819, which don't have AFX source files and the process is basically
>painstainkingly recreate the missing FX
I did 214 like that and I never ever would do it again unless Faust herself asks me to.
Magic FX is relatively simple script I didn't published on github but I can link it.

Why would the swf file be so large, is the animation really that complex, also wouldn't it share data between seens such as character models and reused backdrops? Also does large swf really cause the flash player problems? I would really like someone to try and see if it does become an issue. Flash is perfection and even if it is remotely possible for an entire episode to exist as swf then it should be done.

As for the effects, is loosing them really a dealbreaker? Also would it not be possible to implement some of them in flash, it supports various blur filters I think.

Possible but it's fucking hard to do it.

Yes, too many symbols will kill the player.

Loosing them makes some episodes straight unwatchable. Many objects are added only as effects.

Basically everything that would be too complex for flash. Particles, reflections, lights, magic, etc. For example Doctor's lightning ball in Slice of Life, or every single telekinesis instance.

ok I understand this now. I had a closer look at the episode source data and realize that the swf files are different layers which are composited together with extra effects.

It should be possible to create an swf only version but it would be a large amount of work, you would have to re-implement all the missing effects in flash as best as possible and make sure the different layers are properly combined, it would not look exactly the same but you should be able to get something watchable

Its a shame that so few episodes have leaked, especially of the early seasons. I am somewhat interested in attempting to create an swf of at least one episode but there is not really a good selection, of any of the leaked episodes which is considered good/best? I have not actually watched any of them (I am more of a flash fanatic than a mlp fan)

True, though it's more than doubling. Both clips now show 239 fps.
Tested it with 15fps gif, got 120fps:
https://u.smutty.horse/lsxvgonxppy.mp4
The makers wrote that the output fps may be well over 60. I guess the algorithm adjusts somehow, but I have no idea on what base. I think it depends on how much gaps it has to "fill".

Basically after individual scenes were rendered I had to recompose episode frame-by-frame, recreating all scene transitions, titles and credits. And after that render it the final time. Not hard at all but time consuming.
This is some next level autism.

Go for it if that's your dream, but a word of advice: Google isn't what it used to be, internal culture went to shit. And if they're offering you an SRE position, that job is thankless. Those people burn out in a few years from the pressure.

Probably Dhx Media refusing to give them the flash builds or probably dumb intern Phillipines who don't know how to use the program. I heard TopDrawAnimations hires people with ansolutely no prior education in animation and animation tools. A game tester for EA and Ubisoft also doesn't require any prior knowledge.

Instead TopDrawAnimations has some impressive topgun animators who worked on the movie, but the original Studio B had animators just as good if they were willing to pay them more.
