  1. 00:21   CommissarBrian[Comintern]       since you won't send me one, I will send you one.
  2. 00:21   heidiland       Right.
  3. 00:21   CommissarBrian[Comintern]       I know bronies IRL, and I see the way the act
  4. 00:21   heidiland       What exactly is your point?
  5. 00:21   CommissarBrian[Comintern]       it's an unhealthy obsession
  6. 00:21   CommissarBrian[Comintern]       and there is no reason for it
  7. 00:21   CommissarBrian[Comintern]       I am arguing to find a reason
  8. 00:22   CommissarBrian[Comintern]       Last semester in college I had to do a group project in a State and Local Politics class
  9. 00:22   heidiland       I agree. SOME people have an unhealthy obsession with it. Just as some people have an unhealthy obsession for anime, or for games, or for any other type of thing
  10. 00:22   CommissarBrian[Comintern]       My partner was a brony
  11. 00:22   CommissarBrian[Comintern]       he never met up with me
  12. 00:22   CommissarBrian[Comintern]       We would always be in the same places though
  13. 00:23   CommissarBrian[Comintern]       He wouldn't even attempt to talk to me, and I would even try to talk to him
  14. 00:23   CommissarBrian[Comintern]       I called and texted him several time
  15. 00:23   heidiland       So you're extrapolating for an entire demographic of people based on your personal experiences with a socially awkward guy.
  16. 00:23   heidiland       Great
  17. 00:23   heidiland       Not stereotypical at all
  18. 00:23   CommissarBrian[Comintern]       He would just sit in the library or the cafeteria and watch mlp videos
  19. 00:23   CommissarBrian[Comintern]       I failed that fucking project because of him
  20. 00:23   CommissarBrian[Comintern]       Also, like I said
  21. 00:23   heidiland       I'm sorry for you
  22. 00:23   heidiland       But I'm not seeing the relevance
  23. 00:23   CommissarBrian[Comintern]       My best friend's girlfriend
  24. 00:23   heidiland       Sure, he was a douchebag
  25. 00:24   CommissarBrian[Comintern]       buys into a brony facebook
  26. 00:24   CommissarBrian[Comintern]       My ex-girlfriends friends
  27. 00:24   CommissarBrian[Comintern]       are bronies who do meth
  28. 00:24   heidiland       And there are people who buy into a fetish facebook, or a uniform facebook
  29. 00:24   heidiland       All of what you said applies to so many groups of people.
  30. 00:24   CommissarBrian[Comintern]       fetishes at least get you off though
  31. 00:25   CommissarBrian[Comintern]       there is some logicality behind an orgasm
  32. 00:25   CommissarBrian[Comintern]       you can make a point
  33. 00:25   heidiland       Ok, bad analogy.
  34. 00:25   CommissarBrian[Comintern]       there is none with a brony facebook
  35. 00:25   heidiland       There are classical music facebooks and the like
  36. 00:25   heidiland       It's a common interest meeting point
  37. 00:25   heidiland       Now let's get this straight
  38. 00:25   heidiland       I dislike the idea personally
  39. 00:25   CommissarBrian[Comintern]       you can make a career out of classical music though
  40. 00:25   heidiland       But I'm not condemning it out of principle
  41. 00:26   CommissarBrian[Comintern]       there is a point, if not a potential point
  42. 00:26   heidiland       Fine, I can pick all sorts of different interests that have a social or otherwise dating scene behind them
  43. 00:26   heidiland       The fact remains that this is still not relevant to 'bronies'
  44. 00:26   heidiland       There is, by now, a rather large demographic of people who watch /mlp/.
  45. 00:27   CommissarBrian[Comintern]       There is close to no analogy you can give for a brony
  46. 00:27   heidiland       This is fact
  47. 00:27   heidiland       You are providing examples of embarassing things to be sure
  48. 00:27   heidiland       But what if i told you I was a completely normal guy
  49. 00:27   heidiland       I go out with friends
  50. 00:27   CommissarBrian[Comintern]       embarrassing things?
  51. 00:27   CommissarBrian[Comintern]       I wouldn't doubt it
  52. 00:27   heidiland       I have no pony merchandise
  53. 00:27   heidiland       I don't spout brony memes
  54. 00:27   CommissarBrian[Comintern]       Once again, I wouldn't doubt it
  55. 00:28   CommissarBrian[Comintern]       I doubt Kirino has a bunch of anime merchandise
  56. 00:28   CommissarBrian[Comintern]       in fact, I know he doesn't
  57. 00:28   heidiland       You couldn't tell by looking at me that I like /mlp/.
  58. 00:28   heidiland       This is true for the majority of people in my alliance
  59. 00:28   CommissarBrian[Comintern]       You wouldn't be able to tell with Kirino's anime obsession either
  60. 00:28   heidiland       I know, because we come from /mlp/.
  61. 00:28   heidiland       Kirino already posts anime all over the forums
  62. 00:28   heidiland       We don't even do that.
  63. 00:29   CommissarBrian[Comintern]       You are trying to justify this like someone justifies homosexuality
  64. 00:29   CommissarBrian[Comintern]       "we are normal people"
  65. 00:29   CommissarBrian[Comintern]       "we don't spout homosexuality everywhere"
  66. 00:29   CommissarBrian[Comintern]       "We don't wear skimpy outfits or own stereotypically homosexual items"
  67. 00:30   CommissarBrian[Comintern]       You are defending it like it's a lifestyle
  68. 00:30   heidiland       You say that like you expect homosexuality has to be justified.
  69. 00:30   CommissarBrian[Comintern]       a major life choice, like homosexuality
  70. 00:30   CommissarBrian[Comintern]       It is justified
  71. 00:30   CommissarBrian[Comintern]       You are attracted to the same sex
  72. 00:30   heidiland       No, ok, let me get this straight, possibly without interruptions.
  73. 00:30   heidiland       Ok?
  74. 00:30   CommissarBrian[Comintern]       You don't feel the feelings with the opposite sex that you do with the same sex
  75. 00:31   heidiland       Right.
  76. 00:31   heidiland       Now, I can understand people being annoyed with us
  77. 00:31   heidiland       Genuinely, I do.
  78. 00:31   heidiland       I get it all the time back on /mlp/.
  79. 00:32   heidiland       The only argument aside from 'wah stop liking what I don't like' or 'I just don't get the appeal' for being against 'bronies' is that they fling their shit in everyone's faces.
  80. 00:32   heidiland       Which is perfectly understandable
  81. 00:32   heidiland       And my response to that is, we are not the kind of people to do that in the first place.
  82. 00:33   heidiland       Beyond that, it's not my call to make
  83. 00:33   CommissarBrian[Comintern]       I'm not a morally strong person
  84. 00:33   heidiland       Like I said
  85. 00:33   heidiland       I'm not the kind of person who shoves it in someone's face
  86. 00:33   CommissarBrian[Comintern]       I am okay with homosexuality, in fact I encourage people to be who they are.
  87. 00:33   heidiland       If you want to watch it, fine
  88. 00:33   heidiland       If not, then don't
  89. 00:33   heidiland       For me it's not an issue.
  90. 00:34   CommissarBrian[Comintern]       Bronies are something that my small moral compass points against completely
  91. 00:34   CommissarBrian[Comintern]       Every sense in me says that it is wrong
  92. 00:34   heidiland       And that's your prerogative, based on your interactions with a small set of them
  93. 00:34   heidiland       Regrettable, but understandable
  94. 00:34   CommissarBrian[Comintern]       No one has tried to convince me otherwise
  95. 00:34   heidiland       If you keep it to yourself that is
  96. 00:35   CommissarBrian[Comintern]       They just say "h8ters gon h8 hurr hurr"
  97. 00:35   CommissarBrian[Comintern]       which doesn't help matters at all
  98. 00:35   CommissarBrian[Comintern]       If you could provide some reason behind all this, maybe I can begin to understand it
  99. 00:36   heidiland       Now I'm genuinely confused as to what you expect me to do
  100. 00:36   heidiland       Explain why I like the show?
  101. 00:36   CommissarBrian[Comintern]       I just said it directly
  102. 00:36   CommissarBrian[Comintern]       Explain to me why you and the people on /mlp/ do what you do.
  103. 00:36   heidiland       You want to give me a reason as to why bronies shouldn't point against your moral compass, is what I got from a literal reading
  104. 00:37   CommissarBrian[Comintern]       Kind of like how a homosexual would say, I'm not attracted to women, or I was molested as a child therefore I am this way.
  105. 00:37   CommissarBrian[Comintern]       Pretty much
  106. 00:37   heidiland       I don't see how I can do that
  107. 00:37   CommissarBrian[Comintern]       Convince my moral compass to stop point away
  108. 00:37   CommissarBrian[Comintern]       You can start by giving justifications to your actions
  109. 00:37   heidiland       Well ok then. Why not.
  110. 00:38   heidiland       I got into the show about a year and a half ago
  111. 00:38   heidiland       I played tf2
  112. 00:38   heidiland       I started seeing pony sprays
  113. 00:38   heidiland       Then pony videos off Youtube
  114. 00:38   heidiland       I watched a couple
  115. 00:38   heidiland       In particular there was a growing shitstorm on the 4chan board /co/.
  116. 00:39   heidiland       Many people had started watching it there, as that's the most relevant board to it
  117. 00:39   heidiland       However, it got pretty popular and the other /co/ people started bitching about how many threads MLP was taking up
  118. 00:40   heidiland       This wasn't helped by the complete inability of 4chan to self-moderate and consequently they got into a rage whenever a pony picture came up
  119. 00:40   heidiland       So the trolls on /b/ had found their new weapon, and started spamming it everywhere
  120. 00:40   CommissarBrian[Comintern]       Where's your thesis
  121. 00:40   heidiland       Getting there.
  122. 00:41   heidiland       I saw all this and I thought 'why not, I'll give it a watch'.
  123. 00:41   heidiland       I was at university at the time
  124. 00:41   heidiland       Room to myself
  125. 00:41   heidiland       I watched the first series
  126. 00:41   heidiland       And it was pretty catchy
  127. 00:41   heidiland       Why?
  128. 00:41   heidiland       I can't explain
  129. 00:41   heidiland       Perhaps it's the good voice acting
  130. 00:41   heidiland       Or the animations
  131. 00:41   heidiland       Or the personalities of the characters
  132. 00:42   heidiland       I couldn't tell you
  133. 00:42   heidiland       Eventually /mlp/ was born because all of 4chan was getting butthurt at the trolls spamming pony everywhere
  134. 00:42   heidiland       By this point other pony sites had popped up
  135. 00:43   heidiland       Ponychan
  136. 00:43   heidiland       Equestria Daily and the like
  137. 00:43   heidiland       Cons were being organised
  138. 00:43   heidiland       Etc etc.
  139. 00:43   CommissarBrian[Comintern]       Is this something that (if you had kids) you would tell your kids about?
  140. 00:43   heidiland       Sure, why not
  141. 00:43   heidiland       It's a cute cartoon
  142. 00:43   heidiland       It's for their demographic
  143. 00:43   CommissarBrian[Comintern]       not the cartoon
  144. 00:44   CommissarBrian[Comintern]       but you watching it as a college student
  145. 00:44   heidiland       Probably, yes
  146. 00:44   heidiland       I don't see the shame in it
  147. 00:44   CommissarBrian[Comintern]       this opens up a whole new realm of why's but I'll leave that for some other time
  148. 00:45   heidiland       It's important you understand this above all else though
  149. 00:45   heidiland       Yes, /mlp/ has it's fair share of 'autists', to be politically incorrect
  150. 00:46   heidiland       It's also true that the actions of these guys far outweigh the general passivity of most of us with regards to the show
  151. 00:46   heidiland       For most of us it's not an obsession
  152. 00:48   heidiland       I'm genuinely sorry that you've had bad experiences with some people who watch MLP
  153. 00:48   heidiland       But to extend that to all of us is rather unfair
