  1. >You are Anonymous.
  2. >It's about a decade or so before the actual events of FiM begin.
  3. >You are helping at a Canterlot daycare.
  4. >It's volunteer work, so no pay.
  5. >But seeing all the cute foals is enough payment for you.
  6. >End of the day.
  7. >Most parents have come to pick up their kids.
  8. >"Yes, I'll see you tomorrow too, Moondancer!" The owner of the daycare, Kind Heart, shouts out the door as the mentioned filly leaves with her parents.
  9. >Once the filly and her family are out of sight, she closes the door.
  10. >She looks to you with her azure eyes.
  11. >"Oh Anon, isn't it such a joy to watch over little fillies and colts?"
  12. "I couldn't say it better myself, Ms. Heart."
  13. >She smiles warmly at your response.
  14. >"Now, who do we have left?"
  15. >You survey the room.
  16. >In the corner, you see a small purple filly reading a book.
  17. >You look at the list of kids that were dropped off today, looking for the name of the foal that hadn't been checked off as "picked up" on the list.
  18. >You come to the name Twilight Sparkle.
  19.
  20. >You are Twilight Sparkle.
  21. >You were dropped off at the local day care this morning by your parents.
  22. >All throughout the day, you had immersed yourself in the few books that the daycare offered.
  23. >Most of them were clearly too easy for you, but you read them anyways.
  24. >Books are still books, after all.
  25. >Besides, you didn't feel like playing with the other fillies anyways.
  26. >Before you knew it, the sun was slowly making its way downwards.
  27. >You knew your parents would be here soon.
  28. >What you didn't expect, though, was to be the last filly left in the day care.
  29. >Not that you didn't mind, a quiet environment was better for reading.
  30. >You were half-way through the last book when you heard hooffalls coming towards you.
  31. >No, not hooffalls.
  32. >Foot steps.
  33. >"You Twilight Sparkle?"
  34. >You looked up from your book to lock eyes with an unfamiliar face.
  35. >The volunteer who came in to help Ms. Kind Heart today was knelt right next to you, smiling.
  36. >Your mom, dad, and Shiny had told you not to talk to strangers.
  37. >You knew Ms. Kind Heart, but not this volunteer.
  38. "U-uh...yes..."
  39. >You quickly went back to reading your book, hoping the volunteer would go away.
  40. >He didn't.
  41. >"So...whatcha reading?"
  42. >You quickly showed him the cover of your book before returning to reading.
  43. >But he still didn't go away.
  44. >Instead he peered at the cover of your book, apparently having not read it when you waved it in front of his face.
  45. >"The Adventures of Filly Filet," he read aloud. "Do you like the book?"
  46. "Yes."
  47. >Your answer was quick and simple.
  48. >Maybe he'd find out you didn't want to talk if you kept answering him like this.
  49.
  50. >You are Anonymous again.
  51. >You can't seem to get this filly to talk to you.
  52. >What was her deal anyways?
  53. >You racked your brain to try and find something to talk about.
  54. "Uh...are you always the last filly here?"
  55. >She looked up at you.
  56. >"No."
  57. >She put her face right back into her book.
  58. >Luckily for you, Kind Heart came to help you out.
  59. >"Oh Twilight, it's okay! You can come out of your shell. This is just Mr. Anonymous. He's nice!
  60. >The lavender filly looked up at the daycare owner.
  61. >"O-oh. Um..."
  62. >The filly looked at you.
  63. >"Nice to meet you, Mr. Anonymous."
  64. >She then went right back to her book.
  65. >Was this filly just shy?
  66. >Kind Heart shuffled up behind you.
  67. >"Don't worry Anon, I've got a secret weapon that'll make her open up. Follow me."
  68.
  69. >You are now Kind Heart.
  70. >You had just asked Anonymous to follow you to a secret weapon.
  71. >One that you knew got any filly or colt to warm up to a stranger immediately.
  72. >You led the human into the kitchen.
  73. >Several pots and pans lined the sink, still dirty from the lunch you cooked today.
  74. >"Alright, so what's this secret weapon?" Anon asked you.
  75. "You'll see. Trust me, it'll work."
  76. >You rummaged through a couple cupboards, searching for what would help Anon.
  77. "Not here...not here...A-HA!"
  78. >You had found your tea-making kit, and the bag of sugar cubes next to it.
  79. >It was the sugar cubes that you needed.
  80. >Grabbing the bag of artificial sweeteners, you pull them out of the cupboard and set them on a nearby counter.
  81. "Alright Anon. Take one."
  82. >The human did so, and observed the cube in his hand.
  83. >It was no secret to you that if a foal was shy, a tasty sweet got them to trust you real fast.
  84.
  85. >You are Twilight Sparkle again.
  86. >Mr. Anonymous and Ms. Kind Heart had left the room, and now you were by yourself.
  87. >That was okay though. It just meant more quiet to read your book.
  88. >You giggled at Filly Filet's antics.
  89. >She had just tricked the bad mare into slipping on a banana peel.
  90. >When would the baddies learn?
  91. >"Hey, Twilight."
  92. >It was Mr. Anonymous talking to you from across the room.
  93. >When did he get back in here?
  94. "Yes, Mr. Anonymous?"
  95. >You wondered what he'd want this time as you waited for a response.
  96. >Would he just ask what you were reading again? He read the title twi-
  97. >"Do you want a sugar cube?"
  98. >You gasped and put down the book.
  99. "A sugar cube? For me?"
  100. >You looked towards Mr. Anonymous, who had a sugar cube in his palm.
  101.
  102. >You are Anonymous again.
  103. "Do you want a sugar cube?"
  104. >The filly immediately put down her book.
  105. >"A sugar cube? For me?"
  106. >She looked in your direction, and noticed the confection in your hand.
  107. >Her eyes grew wide and adorable.
  108. >She trotted over to you to inspect the sweet up-close.
  109. >She sniffed it, for reasons your not sure.
  110. >When she she decided the cube was okay, she bit into it, her lips tickling your palm as she ate.
  111. >While she enjoyed her treat, you decided to stroke her mane, feeling its soft texture run in between your fingers.
  112. >She didn't even flinch to your touch, instead continuing to eat the sugar.
  113. >She had now gotten to the last bite, and she lightly nipped your hand getting her fill.
  114. >It didn't really hurt though. Her small filly teeth couldn't do much anyways.
  115. >Once the cube was gone, she decided to lick your hand to get any remaining sugar.
  116. >Her tongue tickled your palm as it slid across to get the last sweet crystals left.
  117. >"Mmm, that was good!"
  118. >She looked up at you and smiled.
  119. >Thank you, Mr. Anonymous!
  120. >You smiled back at her.
  121. "You're welcome, Twilight."
  122. >You spent the rest of the time Twilight was there talking with her about the books in the day care.
  123.
  124. >About ten minutes later, Twilight's parents showed up with Shining Armor in tow.
  125. >They were here to pick her up after getting her brother from school.
  126. >She had run up to them and given them a collective hug.
  127. >"Mom, Dad, Shiny!" she had called.
  128. >"And how was your day dear?" Her mother asked.
  129. >"It was great! I read some funny books that I loved!"
  130. >"You didn't play with any of the other fillies or colts?" Her father asked.
  131. >"No, but I did make a new friend today!"
  132. >Her father smiled.
  133. >"Oh, and who would that be?"
  134. >The purple filly pointed to you with her hoof.
  135. >"Mr. Anonymous, of course!"
  136. >Her family greeted you warmly.
  137. >After a small conversation, Twilight and her family left the daycare.
  138. >"Bye Anon, I'll see you tomorrow!" Twilight called as she walked home with her family.
  139. "I'll see ya too, Twilight!" you called out.
  140. >Once Twilight and her family were out of sight, you shut the door.
  141. >You turned around to meet Kind Heart, who was watching the whole time.
  142. >"See? Sometimes, you just gotta give 'em a little nudge."
  143. >She trotted into the kitchen to begin cleaning up.
  144. >You decided to start picking up strewn about toys in the room.
  145. >It was a good day.
