The Tale of Chess Anon and Princess Luna

>Feeling confident, you immediately reply and accept the invitation

 

>The day of the tournament arrives and you walk through the doors to see all the toughest opponents you have ever faced, as well as some new menacing faces

>There was one competitor who caught your eye

>The competitor was wearing a concealing hoodie and their face was completely covered

>You hope that you get to meet this mysterious figure during the tournament

 

>The tournament begins and you and the figure are on two opposite sides of the bracket

>You know if you can beat all your opponents, you have a good chance of facing against the mysterious opponent

 

>You start beating your opponents with ease

>They were much easier to beat than you remember

>You easily rise to the top

 

>It's time for the finals

>To no surprise, The hooded contestant had made it to the finals as well

 

Anon:" Well well well, I was hoping to meet you. You seem like a truly worthy opponent of my skill. It's a shame you'll have to be beat"

 

Hood:" Don't be so sure of yourself. Thou knoweth not of my true skill."

 

Anon:" Thou? Knoweth? Who the hell talks like that?"

 

Hood:" Art thou deaf? I clearly speaketh like that."

 

Anon:" I see that you're one of those sarcastic types."

 

Hood:" Indeed I am."

 

Anon:" Well then, care to participate in a wager? I'll bet all my tournament trophies if you bet your identity."

 

Hood:" I have no need for mere trophies to show off my vanity. I compete for sport, that in itself is all the reward I need."

 

Anon:" Then I guess you are to much of a wuss to reveal your identity."

 

Luna:" Call me Luna. I'll give that much to you. Should you defeat me in this game of chess, you may gaze upon my face."

 

Anon:" And if I lose?"

 

Luna:" Then thou will know the true meaning and shame of defeat. That in itself is enough to crush you from the inside out."

 

Anon:" Then let the games begin."

 

>The chess match officially starts and you start getting your ass completely handed to you

>You're shocked to see that Luna had so much skill

>Nevertheless, you make a comeback and turn the tides in your favor

 

Luna:" Thou has commendable skill at this game, but surely, you will lose."

 

Anon:" Oh really now? Do your worst."

 

Luna:" Then I shall."

 

>The kiddie gloves come off and Luna starts wiping the floor with you

>All your strategies are failing you and you start becoming desperate

 

>You try to be sneaky and you attempt to set up the most elaborate strategy you know

>Every move you pray that she doesn't catch on to what you're doing

>You were so self-indulged you didn't notice the counter-strategy she was stealthily setting up

>As you were gaining confidence by coming close to being able to fully execute the long and elaborate strategy, you are instantly shut down by Luna

>All your plans fail

>Defeat is imminent

>Resistance is futile

 

>You decide to honorably surrender before you further shame yourself in front of all your peers

 

Anon:" You were an excellent opponent Luna. You won fair and square. I surrender. You win."

 

Luna:" Thou art giving up? That is weak of someone who was so vain and confident of his own skills."

 

Anon:" You beat me at every turn, you figured out my strategy every time. You were about to win anyways, my master plan had failed."

 

Luna:" Regardless, thou should have continued on to the very end. In an attempt to keep your honor, you have dis-honored yourself instead."

 

Anon:" Fine, deal the final blow. Whatever. If it'll make you that much more happy then go ahead. Like I care anymore. I lost when I was at the top. I look like garbage now."

 

>Luna ends the game the right way and is declared a winner

 

Luna:" Cheer up now, just because you lost one game to me, doesn't mean you should just quit all together. You have talent at this game, just not enough talent to beat me. Many have tried, all of which have failed, including you."

 

Anon:" Well Luna, it was fun to play with you, would you like to just hang out? You seem like you could be fun."

 

Luna:" Why sure, I could even give you some pointers and maybe one day you can be even better at chess than you already are."

 

Anon:" Well alright."

 

>The two go out of the tournament together and on their way to their own homes, they pass by a bar

 

Anon:" Hey Luna, would you like to have a drink? It's on me."

 

Luna:" Sure, a drink would be nice."

 

>You and Luna enter the bar

>You buy her the drink you offered her and she starts to get more comfortable with you

 

Luna:" You know, you're alright Anon. You were fun to play against and you're an alright person over all."

 

Anon:" Well you're not too bad yourself Luna."

 

>Luna then puts down her hood and reveals her face

 

Anon:" Wait just a second, you're the Princess Luna? Princess of the Moon and Night sky?! What the hell were you doing playing chess?!"

 

Luna:" I thought my identity was obvious when I gave you my name, not many people are named Luna you know."

 

Anon:" I guess I was a bit too caught up in that chess game. Damn you're good though. Explains why I lost to you, I mean you're a Princess and you've lived much longer than I have, you've had many more years to pursue chess than me."

 

Luna:" Right you are Anon. But is chess really the only thing on your mind? I can understand it being a hobby or even a passion of yours but if that's all you do, then that is distastefully one dimensional of you."

 

Anon:" Of course I don't always think of chess. I am very enthusiastic about it though."

 

Luna:" Then what else do you like?"

 

Anon:" Well I like the simple things, just being outside, enjoying nature, and I really come to life in the night. I spend all my time just roaming around these streets looking up to the sky and just gazing at the beautiful night sky, or at least when it isn't cloudy."

 

Luna:" You actually enjoy the night? I'm sorry but the fact that someone does is just a foreign concept to me. Most people just stay indoors and sleep throughout the night."

 

Anon:" Well I guess I'm nocturnal then."

 

Luna:" Nocturnal Eh? Interesting. I thought I was the only one who would stay up during the night. Surely I met other citizens on my lonely strolls around the city but most would simply greet me and continue on their merry way."

 

Anon:" So they would simply just say hi and walk away? That's fucking rude isn't it?"

 

Luna:" Well Anon, most people fear me. I seem intimidating to them and they don't take the chance and try to get to know me."

 

Anon:" Is that the reason why you normally hide your identity? Because people fear you and you fear rejection?"

 

Luna:" That's the main reason, yes. The people have always been afraid and I'd rather get a friendly hello when my identity is unknown than get a fear-filled greeting when someone knows who I am."

 

Anon:" Well I wouldn't fear you, in fact I normally would care less of who you are. Normally I'm all alone every night just roaming the streets in the lights of the lamp posts and the moon. Seeing a friendly face such as yours would definitely brighten up my night."

 

>You and Luna converse over a few drinks and you decide it's time to go home

 

Anon:" It's been fun Luna, but it's about time I go home. Would you like to do this again sometime?"

 

Luna:" Sure, I'd like that. Thanks for the drinks Anon. See you next time."

 

>You and Luna finally part ways and you get home

 

>You think about your defeat but in the end you don't feel too bad

>Instead you're grateful for the exciting and interesting match you had with Luna

>You then lie down in your bed and fall asleep thinking a lot about Luna

 

>Timeskip

 

>You had just come home from a day of hanging out with Luna

>You are really starting to like her

>You normally have no room for friends or other people in your heart

>Luna was the exception of that rule

>You slowly grew more fond of her as you constantly had met up for some chess lessons and practice sessions

 

>You lie down on your bed and start to talk to yourself and think out loud

 

Anon:" Well, Luna's certainly something different. I never really cared about anyone else before and I usually never talk to my opponents outside of the game, but she's different. There's just something about her. She has some sort of charm that everyone else seems to lack. She's interesting and mysterious. The other opponents I faced have all been so one-dimensional. She's so different.

 

>Weeks pass as you continually meet up with Luna every week at the same spot

>Your fondness of Luna increases more and more with everytime you see her

 

>Timeskip to next week

 

>The two of you meet up at the spot but Luna tells you she wants to do something else

 

Luna:" Hey Anon, instead of just doing chess stuff here, why don't you come with me to the castle and we can have all sorts of fun there!"

 

>You begin to think to yourself

 

>Fun? Normally fun for me is just destroying other people at chess and bragging in their faces. I normally don't have a lot of fun. Maybe this will be different.

 

Anon:" That sounds like a good plan Luna, let's go to the Castle then."

 

Luna:" Well come on, follow me and we'll be there in no time."

 

Anon:" Alright, lead the way then."

 

>You and Luna end up at the castle

 

Luna:" I thought we could roam around the castle grounds for a while, and just walk and relax, you don't mind do you?"

 

>You raise an eye to why she would want to spend time with you like this but you decide to push it to the side

 

>You two roam around the dimly lit empty castle halls

 

Anon:" I would think these halls would be filled with life, I thought there were tons of people who would be here."

 

Luna:" Oh these halls are most definitely filled with life. But it's the night time, everyone is sleeping. No one wants to be here. Everyone is gone at this time at night. Life is for the day, loneliness is for the night."

 

Anon:" Wow, that's a real shame, I think the castle should be filled with life, I'd never think this place would be so... dead. I feel so bad now, I never thought that a Princess would ever know the definition of loneliness."

 

Luna:" I was banished for 1000 years, forced into solitude on the moon. Solitude is my only true friend."

 

Anon:" Well shit, you have a point there. Kinda forgot about that. Sorry. I can't imagine how that must've been."

 

Luna:" It's alright Anon. It's just nice to have someone here with me, it feels like this is the first time in forever someone had actually visited the castle during the night. Thanks for being so willing to come here. I really do like spending time with you."

 

Anon:" It's a pleasure to be in the royal castle in itself, I honestly didn't think I'd ever see this place in person, especially from the inside. I just thought we were gonna spend tonight like we did every other night, but I'm not exactly complaining."

 

Luna:" Well I'm happy you like the Castle, even though its essentially empty during the night. I honestly was growing tired of always going to the same place every week and playing and discussing chess. It was getting rather boring and I thought we could have a more interesting time tonight. By the way, is there any place you would like to see in the castle before we head to my room?"

 

Anon:" Hm... I always wanted to see the throne room in person. Can we go there?"

 

Luna:" Why of course! Follow me and I'll also show you the Hall of Glass, which is right outside the throne room anyways."

 

Anon:" Alright, I always liked looking at stained glass anyways. Seriously though I can't believe that there's no one here at night. I mean I've known you for long enough to know there's nothing to fear about you. I can tell that you yearn for companionship or at least a true friend."

 

Luna:" You know Anon, you're right. I seek a friend. Someone who I can rely on to always be there for me."

 

Anon:" Well Luna, if it makes any difference, I consider us friends."

 

Luna:" You do? That really does make a difference Anon. I always considered us friends but I didn't want to say anything because I didn't want to rush friendship."

 

Anon:" Well that's nice to hear. Now I believe you were gonna take me somewhere?"

 

Luna:" Oh, the throne room! That's right! I apologize, right this way Anon."

 

>You follow Luna through the castle halls until you reach the Hall of Glass, where stained glass windows depicting important events in Equestrian history decorate the walls

 

 

>You gaze upon the beautiful stained glass windows one at a time

 

>You appreciate how their art is actual art, unlike most art of today

 

>You see many of them depict Luna and her sister Celestia defeating a common enemy

 

Anon:" Wow Luna, these are beautiful, thank you so much for taking me here."

 

>She doesn't hear you as she is too focused on a specific stained glass window

 

>The window depicts her banishment to the moon as Nightmare Moon

 

>You slowly walk up behind her and ask if she's alright

 

Anon:" Luna, is everything okay?"

 

>Luna still doesn't pay attention to you

 

>You decide to go stand in front of her

 

>You see her eyes are filled with sadness and regret

 

>She snaps out of it once she sees you

 

Luna:" I'm sorry Anon, I can get rather, sucked in to these works of art. Come. I'll show you the throne room now"

 

Anon:" No need to be sorry Luna, but seriously, is everything okay?"

 

>She tries to hide her emotions from you, but you see right through her

 

Luna:" Yes. Everything is fine Anon. Thanks for asking, but come, let's see the throne room. That is what you want correct?"

 

Anon:" I want you to tell me whats wrong. I'm not an idiot Luna. I can tell when something is wrong, now tell me."

 

Luna:" I wish not to tell you anything. Do you want to get thrown out of this castle?"

 

Anon:" You know we both don't want that Luna. I'm happy to be here with you, but you don't need to hide your feelings from me."

 

Luna:" Can we please just get on with this? It's not something I really like to talk about. I hope you can understand."

 

Anon:" Fine, let's go."

 

>You and Luna traverse to the throne room

 

>You admire the wonderful architecture of the castle

 

>After a few minutes, you want to move things along

 

Anon:" Hey Luna, can we go to your room now?"

 

Luna:" I'd love to! Come on!"

 

>For some reason, her spirits seem lifted, but you can't help but think of this as a ruse to get your mind off of what happened in the Hall of Glass

 

>You and her go to her room

 

>You arrive at the door to her room

 

>It is a double door, the handles are shaped like the Nightmare Night symbol, the door has a moon imprinted on it, which splits into two when opened

 

>She opens the door for you and you enter

 

>The room looks amazing, the walls, dark blue, the skylight, allowing the beautiful moonlight to shine through, and even an exit to a balcony from where you assume she raises the moon from

 

Anon:" This is quite the room you have here Luna. It's beautiful. What I would give to live in a room like this."

 

Luna:" Why thank you Anon, I'm glad you like it. It's designed to my specifications."

 

>One of the members of Luna's own royal guard comes through the door

 

Guard:" Sorry to disturb you Princess. I know you have a guest, but there is something you need to take care of."

 

>Luna sighs

 

Luna:" Out of all the nights something that requires my attention, tonight is the night. I apologize Anon. I will be back soon. Please, make yourself comfortable."

 

Anon:" Alright, take your time, I'll still be around Luna. I'm not going anywhere."

 

>Luna exits the room and closes the door behind her while she converses with her guard

 

>You examine the room closely and snoop around

 

>You notice her diary on her night stand

 

>You contemplate reading it

 

>"Come on, she's gonna be a while, she will never know you read it"

 

>"But what if she does come back for whatever reason?"

 

>"What's the worst that can happen?"

 

>You decide to pick up the diary and skim through her latest entires

 

>One entry catches your eye

 

The entry reads:

 

Dear Diary,

I think I may be developing feelings of more than just friendship for Anon. He is someone who is truly unique. He's different. He isn't afraid of me, he is rather very open with me. Perhaps I love him... But what will he think of me when he knows more about my past? More about the darkness that lurks within my heart... I still think about Nightmare Moon. I can feel her within my heart. My dark powers may be gone, but the darkness itself still wanders inside the shadows of my heart. I remember the day as if it was yesterday. The darkness had finally corrupted me. I transformed into the horrible Nightmare Moon. I had almost killed my sister without hesitation, before she rose up again and banished me to the moon for what I thought was forever. I spent 1000 years of suffering on that moon, clashing with my darkness until the stars had aided in my escape. The darkness won and Nightmare Moon was the one who returned. What I did with Celestia, when I appeared as Nightmare Moon, I'll never tell. I hope that I'll be accepted one day.

 

 

>You start to sense a presence of someone else behind you

 

>It was none other than Luna, watching you read her inner most thoughts she penned in her diary

 

>Oh shit

 

Luna:" Anon, I know I told you to make yourself comfortable, but this is far beyond that welcome. I can not believe you invaded my privacy!"

 

>Tears form on Luna's face

 

>You can tell she feels betrayed by you

 

>You try to form a response, but nothing but stutters come out of your mouth

 

Luna:" Do you have nothing to say for yourself?!"

 

>You manage to get a few words out of your mouth

 

Anon:" Luna... I'm so sorry..."

 

>Luna is angered by your response and uses the royal canterlot voice on you

 

Luna:" SORRY?! SORRY?!! YOU HAD JUST TRESPASSED ON MY MOST PRIVATE OF THOUGHTS! YOU BETRAYED MY TRUST! YOU ARE NO LONGER WELCOME HERE! LEAVE THIS PLACE AT ONCE AND NEVER COME BACK!"

 

>Her words make your heart sink deep down

 

Anon:" ...Never?"

 

Luna:" NEVER! GUARDS! ESCORT HIM OUT AT ONCE!"

 

>The guards throw you out of the castle with hostility and brutality

 

>You slowly walk your way home, sulking

 

>"Never again... You blew it man. You had a chance with getting close with her, and you blew it for something she might have told you weeks from now anyway."

 

>You arrive home and go to your room where you lock yourself in and go to your bed, crying

 

>Meanwhile, at the Canterlot Castle...

 

>Luna is on her bed, crying

 

>She locked the doors and refuses to come out for anyone, even her own sister

 

Luna:" I thought I could spend time with him, I thought we could become more than just friends. The first person in over 1000 years other than my sister to show some genuine interest in me, someone who wanted to be closer to me, and he betrays my trust... And I wanted for him to stay the night and sleep with me in my bed and perhaps even snuggle with him so lovingly."

 

>Back to Anon

 

Anon:" I'll never see her again... I will never see her beautiful face or her beautiful mane or tail again..."

 

>Weeks pass

 

>You still send a weekly letter to Luna, hoping you can be lucky enough for her to find it in her heart to forgive you

 

>You have nothing but regret and remorse in your heart as you constantly wonder What if?

 

>Meanwhile, at the Castle

 

>Luna begins talking to herself

 

Luna:" Oh, the mail is here. So is HIS letter. I do regret my decision a bit, but I just wish he respected my privacy. Perhaps I acted too quickly... What if I hadn't thrown him out? Maybe, if I was forgiving instead of hostile, things could have turned out differently."

 

>For once, instead of discarding your letter without hesitation, she actually reads it

 

>She is touched by your letter and decides to write back for once

 

Luna:" I hope he may forgive my hostile reactions. He cared about my well-being, and I was so self absorbed to see that he was concerned for me and just wanted to help me."

 

>She sends the letter without hesitation, asking you to come to the usual spot

 

>But you don't get the letter right away

 

>Weeks pass and you decide to give up

 

>You throw away everything that reminds you of Luna

 

>You vow never to do anything for her again

 

Anon:" Who needs her anyways... she'll find someone else. I'm no one special."

 

>A month passes since you have discarded everything Luna related in your life

 

>But then you get a letter from the Princess herself, dated a month ago

 

>As you read the letter, you realize that Luna must have been going to the usual spot every week, but to no avail

 

>Your heart sinks as you think of how much your relationship has been strained due to incompetent mail delivery

 

>You immediately write to her in hopes that it'll reach her soon

 

>In the letter, you ask her not to meet at the usual spot, but instead meet her at your house, at which you provide the address to

 

>You make sure that it get's delivered quickly, before she gives up on you like you did on her

 

>The letter reaches Luna in a day

 

>Luna hesitantly reads it as it has been over a month since she heard from him last

 

Luna:" This letter may be the thing I have been hoping for for so long... I really hope he isn't mad at me..."

 

>She reads the letter and decides to take you up on your offer

 

>Luna tells her sister that she is going to see you

 

>Celestia insists her to not do it, but Luna defiantly decides to do as she pleases

 

>A week later, during the middle of the night, Luna comes to your home

 

>You were happy to see the Chariot pull up near your house

 

>You felt so excited and you were in a state of ecstasy, but as the doorbell rings, you attempt to hold your spaghetti in and calm yourself down

 

>You open the door as you and Luna share an awkward moment

 

Anon:" Luna... it's good to see you again."

 

Luna:" Likewise"

 

Anon:" Please, come in, I have tea ready for us."

 

Luna:" Tea sounds delightful, thank you for inviting me in."

 

>The two of you sit down across from each other at your dining room table

 

>You just look at each other awkwardly and no noise is made but the sipping of the tea

 

>Eventually, Luna breaks her silence

 

Luna:" Anon, I can't take it anymore. The more days that pass, the more days I regret my decision to violently throw you out of the castle. I missed you Anon, and I never was clear about my feelings for you. Anon... I love you. I don't want to be friends... I want to be lovers..."

 

>Your eyes widen and you spit your tea in shock

 

Anon:" Well that's certainly dropping the bomb. Luna, I don't know what to say..."

 

Luna:" Then perhaps an action would be a better way of showing how you feel..."

 

>You get what she's hinting and suggesting you should do

 

>You muster up all your courage and kiss Luna passionately

 

>She kisses you back with the same amount of emotion

 

Anon:" Oh Luna... you just made me so happy... I love you to. With all of my heart and soul. Will you be mine, Princess Luna?"

 

Luna:" Oh Anon... I'd be happy to be yours. I love you more than you know. You were the first one in over a thousand years other than my sister to show genuine care and compassion for me. We may have started off as rivals, but now we are here as lovers."

 

>You and Luna kiss each other again in joy of your new found love for each other

 

Luna:" Anon, I'd like you to come back to the castle with me, I want it to be your new home."

 

Anon:" Where exactly will I live in the castle?"

 

Luna:" Right with me in my room of course. We are a couple now of course, we should take it as far as it goes if not further. I have had so many bottled up emotions for you that I was too afraid to admit to you. I'm glad now that I can be truly open with you."

 

Anon:" Luna, I did the same thing. I grew more and more attached to you as time went on, but I was always scared of saying so because I'm a mere commoner and you're a princess after all. And I'd love to live in the castle with you. "

 

Luna:" Splendid! Let us go now, we can bring your things later, I want to spend the rest of my night with you in my room, if that is alright with you."

 

Anon:" Sounds wonderful to me."

 

>You and Luna hop on the chariot and head for the castle

 

>You arrive at the castle and you reminisce on your previous visit here

 

>It all went well until you made that one mistake that made everything spiral out of control

 

Luna:"Come Anon, let's walk to my room. It's good to have you back here, I have to say I really did miss you for all the time we were apart."

 

Anon:" I missed you to Luna."

 

>You and Luna slowly walk through the dimly moonlit halls together, heading towards her room

 

>You and her walk into the room

 

>Luna jumps on you, forcing you on the bed

 

>She gives you a big kiss

 

Luna:" Anon... will you snuggle with me tonight? Please?"

 

Anon:" I'd love that more than anything Luna."

 

>You and her begin to snuggle until you both fall asleep with smiles on your faces, your dreams, finally having come true
