  1. >"But Anon, there's just one problem."
  2. "And what would that be?"
  3. >"We don't have tickets and they cost 50 bits a piece!"
  4. >You cringe from your victory pose you had taken once you thought the plan had been completely formed
  5. "Okay, that -may- be a problem...Rainbow, how much money you got?"
  6. >She shakes her head
  7. >"Sorry, Anon. Weather patrol doesn't pay much at all. They only pay big to Unicorn ponies who help with magic."
  8. "That's a bummer. Twi, you have any cash?"
  9. >"The only source of income I have is Princess Celestia. And I only get it when she commissions me for research. And even then I -only- use it for new books and materials."
  10. "Well that's a bummer. I'm not even sure how much money -I've- got."
  11. >You sit on Twilight's bed and place your head in your hands
  12. >Think...Think...Think...
  13. >Alright, the last time you checked you saved up about 30 bits for grocery shopping a couple weeks ago
  14. >...Then you went grocery shopping
  15. >Any change left over?
  16. >...
  17. >It should be...sitting in your undies drawer wrapped in your favorite pair
  18. >You did buy quite a load of groceries, though. There may not be much change left
  19. >Anything is better than nothing, you suppose
  20. >You stand from the bed. Twilight and Rainbow look to you
  21. "Alright you two, we're going to need to find a way to make 150 bits in one day. Twilight, check that paper for odd-jobs that need doing. Rainbow, check the bulletin board at City Hall for any work as well."
  22. >"That sounds good."
  23. >Twilight yawns
  24. >"It's kind of late. And we have one day before we actually -do- this. Let's all just get a good night's sleep so we can get started on this tomorrow."
  25. "Alright, I'm fine with that. Rainbow?"
  26. >She nods
  27. >"Goodnight, you two."
  28. "Night, Twilight."
  29. >"Later, Twi."
  30. >You exit the library with Dash
  31. >It's really dark outside
  32. >Almost pitch-black thanks to a large patch of clouds passing in front of the moon
  33. >You begin walking along, the sound of flapping wings close behind you
  34. >After a few second you feel a tug on your shirt
  35. >"Hey, Anon. It's really dark and I'm kinda worried about getting home. Think I could stay at your place tonight?"
  36. "The fearless Rainbow Dash is worried about flying in the dark?"
  37. >"Hey, I don't even know if I'd make it home if I flew home right now. Besides, if it were anyp0ny else I wouldn't be askin'."
  38. >She's right
  39. >If someone besides you were walking with her she might've flown off by now
  40. >You laugh
  41. "Of course."
  42.
  43. >The walk back took less time than the walk to the library
  44. >You turn the knob and push your door open, leaving it open for Dash
  45. >Dash closes the door behind her as you make your way upstairs, the clopping of hooves following you
  46. >You enter your room and walk around the bed to the guitar stands, taking Nelson from your torso and sitting him on the empty stand next to Cyrus
  47. >You pull your shirt off and pull off your hair tie, jumping into bed and closing your eyes
  48. >Your door creaks slightly and is shut
  49. >Wind blows upon your face as you hear the fluttering of wings pass over you
  50. >Rainbow then allows herself to drop on the bed
  51. >She promptly begins to wrap herself up in the blankets, not leaving much for you
  52. >You grab one end of the blanket and pull hard in your direction
  53. >This causes Dash to roll into your side
  54. >You wrap an arm around her as she gets comfy
  55. >She rests her head on your chest
  56. >"Don't try any funny business, y'hear?"
  57. "Only if you want me to, Dash."
  58. >You both share a laugh before you close your eyes and bury your head in your pillow
  59.

  64. >A bright light from your window shines upon your eyes
  65. >You open your eyes only to cringe and cover your face from the source of the light
  66. >Lo and behold, it's the sun
  67. >You uncover your face once your eyes adjust and yawn
  68. >Today's the plan of action
  69. >Today's the plan of valor
  70. >Today you get yourself some damn money to attend a concert
  71. >You sigh and look over to your right
  72. >Rainbow Dash is still fast asleep
  73. >Somehow she kept from stealing the blankets in the night
  74. >You smile and get up from bed
  75. >You walk over to your drawers and open the top one. Your underwear drawer
  76. >You search and find the plain black pair of boxer briefs, unwrapping them
  77. >The undergarments reveal a small sack which you pick up and open
  78. >Five bits...great
  79. >A thirtieth of the way there
  80. >You shrug and grab some clothes from the drawers
  81. >Screw showering today. There's important work to be done
  82. >You walk over to the windowsill and grab your hair tie, tying your hair into a p0nytail
  83. >You pull up your pants and socks and throw on a shirt before nudging Rainbow
  84. "Hey...Dash...Wake up, dude. Important stuff today."
  85. >She doesn't wake up
  86. "C'mon Dash...we need to get going."
  87. >She still doesn't wake up
  88. >You place a hand on her shoulder and shake her a few times before she groans and moves away from you
  89. >You cross your arms
  90. "Well, if that's the way we're doing it."
  91. >You sigh and walk over to Cyrus, grabbing him and plugging him up to the amplifier and adjusting his sounds while softly singing lyrics from a favorite song of yours
  92.
  93. "Hey lady..you got the love I need
  94. Maybe more than enough.
  95. Oh Darlin', Darlin', Darlin'... walk a while with me
  96. You've got so much... So much..So much.."
  97.
  98. >You finish adjusting the knobs on the amp
  99. >You turn up the volume a bit before slamming chords out
  100. >You sing out the lyrics just for the hell of it
  101.
  102. "Many have I loved! Many times been bitten!
  103. Many times I've gazed along the open road!"
  104.
  105. >Dash jumped from the bed to the ceiling, shaking slightly
  106. >You muted the guitar strings and watched her survey the room like a cracked out bird before spotting you with Cyrus and fluttering back down to the bed
  107. >You stifle a laugh. Rainbow notices and glares at you for a second
  108. >"That wasn't funny, Anon."
  109. >You shrug
  110. "Sorry, Dash. But when there's important work to be done, we can't be held up. Especially by sleep."
  111. >She lets up her glare and sighs
  112. >"Sorry about that. Should we get going then?"
  113. "I thought you'd never ask."
  114.
  115. >You both walk through town on the way to the library, Nelson on your back
  116. >You had just passed through the marketplace when Rainbow spoke
  117. >"So Anon. Why do you carry -that- instrument around all the time?"
  118. "Nelson."
  119. >"Huh?"
  120. "His name's Nelson."
  121. >"You named your guitar?"
  122. "As I do with all my other instruments."
  123. >"But...why?"
  124. "I dunno, honestly. I just feel a deep connection with them all. When the music flows through me I just...lose my self and feel that I can't do anything this awesome without my...friends. Yes. They're like a group of friends that help me make beautiful music."
  125. >Rainbow seems to ponder on this for a few seconds
  126. >"That's really nice, Anon."
  127. "Yeah...it is, isn't it?"
  128. >You smile at her as you both walk up to the library
  129. >Before you can knock the door flies open
  130. >You sidestep a purple pony before she nearly runs into you
  131. >She halts her advance a few feet after she passes you up, realizing who she almost blew off
  132. >"Anon, Rainbow! I figured out exactly how we're getting into the concert!"
  133. "Awesome. Lay it on us."
  134. >She moves back to the doorway of the library and her horn glows before the newspaper from the night before is levitated to your face
  135. >On the classifieds section there are several articles that are circled red with a number next to each
  136. >On the bottom right of the page are the figures added up completely, equaling the 150 bits you require to get the three of you in the concert
  137. >"As you can see, if we do all of these jobs we'll have the exact amount we need!"
  138. "Twilight, this is brilliant! I'm sure it took some time to do this."
  139. >"Actually it only took me twenty minutes."
  140. >This mare
  141. "Well, we've got our plan then. Let's get started on this list."
  142.
  143. >Twilight had cleverly created two lists out of the job listings
  144. >One for her and one for you and Rainbow
  145. >Twilight set off to complete her list
  146. >"Alright, Anon. What's first?"
  147. "Let's see here..."
  148. >You look through the list
  149. >The first thing that catches your eye is window washing
  150. >Seems easy enough
  151. >Thankfully there were so many ponies requesting the job it had a category of its own
  152. "Alright, Dash. We gotta wash windows around P0nyville, starting at Town Hall."
  153. >"I guess we better get to it, then."
  154. "Yep."
  155. >You both make your way to Town Hall
  156.
  157. >You enter the building, immediately greeted by the Mayor
  158. >"Hi there, you must be here for the job."
  159. >You give her a confused look
  160. >Either she's very busy or she really needs this job done desperately
  161. >You assume the former
  162. "We sure are, ma'am. Just point us in the right direction and we'll get started."
  163. >"Splendid! My secretary here will give you the materials you need. Now you'll need to start here and work your way around to Twilight Sparkle's Library-"
  164. "Wait...we're going -that- far?"
  165. >"Well..yes. This job has been needing someone to do it for a while now. The requests just start to pile up, you understand."
  166. >With a blank stare you just nod
  167. >"And with two of you it should be done in no time!"
  168. >You nod again, still staring blankly
  169. >"Well I have some papers that need signing, so just come by for payment when you're finished."
  170. >You nod once again
  171. >The Mayor's secretary produces two sponges and a bucket from under her desk
  172. >Rainbow flies over and grabs them with her front hooves
  173. >You leave Town hall, Rainbow in tow
  174. >You stand outside the building
  175. >Rainbow hands you a sponge and sets the bucket on the ground
  176. >"So how're we gonna do this?"
  177. >After some careful thought, and hopeful thinking, you reply
  178. "I think I've got an idea."
  179.
  180. >After nearly breaking several windows, you finally established a system of window washing with Dash
  181. >It consisted of you quickly wiping them down with both sponges then moving on to the next while Dash super-dried them with her wing power
  182. >Thanks to this, you had finished the job pretty quickly
  183. >You and Rainbow ran back to town hall to get your payment right after finishing the last house, which happened to be Twilight's library
  184. >The Mayor graciously recieved you both and handed you a sack of bits
  185. >You pocketed them and moved on to your next job site
  186. >Applejack needed help at Sweet Apple Acres
  187. >Rainbow followed close behind as you made your way onto the farm
  188. >You were about to knock on the door when you heard the sound of hooves knocking the shit out of a tree
  189. >Applejack was in the orchard
  190. >You made your way over to her location as soon as you spotted her
  191. >She bucked another tree before noticing you and Rainbow
  192. >"Howdy you two. What brings ya'll 'round here?"
  193. "Hey, AJ. We read in the paper you needed help with a job?"
  194. >"Sure do. Big Mac's done and gotten himself injured again-"
  195. "Again? How the hell does he always do this to himself?"
  196. >"Yer guess is as good as mine, sugarcube. Anyhow, the apple cellar needs some renovations on the shelves. Second, our barn is fallin' apart. We need that ta be taken down so a new one can be built."
  197. "Sounds cool. You wanna take care of the shelves first, Rainbow?"
  198. >"Yeah. Get the boring stuff out of the way first."
  199. >"Ya'll can find the tools in the cellar itself."
  200. "Gotcha."
  201. >You both make your way to the apple cellar
  202.
  203. >It's dark in here, but thanks to the open door and several candles there's enough light to work
  204. >You begin by grabbing a hammer. Rainbow hands you nails as you grab the shelves and hold them in the right position
  205. >You place the brackets holding the shelves at just the right spots and hammer them in the wall before moving onto the next set of shelves
  206. >This goes on for a while until the job's finished
  207. >Relatively easy work. Not really difficult
  208. >An easy first half of the job, in your book
  209. >But now the fun part begins
  210. >You and Rainbow exit the apple cellar and catch Applejack just as she's leaving the orchard
  211. "Job's done, Applejack."
  212. >"Alright, now all ya'll need ta do is break down that there barn so ah can pay ya."
  213. >You nod before she tells you to grab the tools from inside the cellar
  214. >Both you and Rainbow grab a pair of goggles
  215. >You take a sledgehammer and hang it over your shoulder
  216. >Rainbow quickly flies out of the cellar while you follow her outside
  217. >She's already taking shots at it, flying into it wildly and breaking it apart while making it look easy
  218. >You quickly run up and begin slamming away at the supports
  219. >You break a few down, watching as the barn sort of wobbled with its own weight being pushed around on the dwindling support
  220. >Rainbow shouts at you before she flies high in the air
  221. >"Anon! Get some cover! This is gonna be a doozy!"
  222. >You comply, running and jumping in a nearby ditch next to a tree
  223. >You creep your head over the edge of the ditch, watching as Rainbow began a steep dive straight at the barn
  224. >She soon collided with it, creating a giant rainbow-mushroom-cloud and sending debris flying
  225. >Thankfully none of it collided with the Apple family home
  226. >That would've been pretty bad
  227. >After a bit of clean-up, Applejack gives you a sack of bits with a smile
  228. >Confirmation of a job well-done
  229. >As you're exiting the farm, Rainbow speaks
  230. >"So what's next, Anon?"
  231. >You check over the list
  232. >Only...one more job? That's a relief
  233. >All the relief leaves your body once you read the description, though
  234. >"Anon?"
  235. "We have to test new cupcakes at Sugarcube Corner."
  236. >"Oh, cool! The Cakes' should have some good ones ready!"
  237. "That's just the thing. It's not the Cakes' cupcakes."
  238.
  239. >"HI YOU GUYS!"
  240. >You and Rainbow both utter a reply, not ready for Pinkie's antics
  241. >"OMIGOSH, IHOPEDSOMEP0NYWOULDHELPBUTIDIDN'TGETJUSTANP0NYIGOTACOUPLEOFMYBESTFRIENDSTOHELPMEYOU'REGOINGTOLOVE-"
  242. "Uh, Pinkie?"
  243. >"Yeeeeeees?"
  244. >She moves closer to you as she extends her 'yes'
  245. "Could we test these cupcakes, today please?"
  246. >"Of course, silly. Why do you think you're here."
  247. >You decide not to pursue this mare's logic
  248. >She zips to the kitchen at speeds unknown to you and comes back just as quick with a tray of four strange multi-colored cupcakes
  249. >You grab a cupcake and examine it
  250. >The frosting decorates the top in a rainbow theme. Even the cupcake itself has a rainbow color scheme
  251. >You shrug and bring it to your mouth, taking a bite
  252. >Pinkie looks to you in anticipation
  253. >Her eyes start to widen before she breaks into a smile
  254. >You look to Rainbow. She's just staring in disbelief
  255. "Uh...is there something on my face?"
  256. >They don't respond. You shrug and move your hand to wipe off whatever's on your face
  257. >Your rainbow colored hand...wait...what?
  258. >You look at your entire arm to see that it's moving between different shades in the color spectrum
  259. "Uh...Pinkie?" You say, still looking at your arm. "How long's this supposed to last?"
  260. >She brings out a clipboard and quill from nowhere, writing something down
  261. >"Not too long. Don't worry, Anon. The effect should go away soon enough!"
  262. >She smiled in an attempt to reassure you
  263. >It didn't help
  264. >Rainbow looked at the cupcake for a moment
  265. >"Hey, Anon. Let me try that."
  266. "Uh, alright."
  267. >You hold the cupcake out, which Rainbow promptly chomps out of your hand
  268. >Her mane and tail turn completely white for a few seconds before her rainbow color seems to fizzle back
  269. "That was interesting."
  270. >"Alright, next up!" Pinkie says
  271. >You looked to Rainbow, motioning towards the tray with your eyes
  272. >"What?"
  273. "C'mon, dude. We're in this together."
  274. >She eyes a green and purple cupcake uneasily before grabbing it in a hoof and munching it whole
  275. >A few seconds pass
  276. >"Feel any different?"
  277. >"Not real-"
  278. >Suddenly her mane and coat changed green and purple respectively
  279. >Her cutie mark had also become a piccolo
  280. >She reeled back from her new colors, but laughed nervously hoping the effect would dispel any moment
  281. >Two more cupcakes...
  282. >Pinkie looked up from her clipboard before eyeing you with a smile
  283. >"Alright. Anon's next."
  284.
  285. >About ten minutes worth of testing later, you and Rainbow walk out of Sugarcube Corner; bag of bits sitting in your pocket
  286. >Rainbow's color hadn't changed yet. She was starting to get worried
  287. >It was nothing compared to your new pony ears, blue tail, and muzzle
  288. >The muzzle was slowly becoming more flat, hopefully a sign that the effect was going away
  289. >"Anon...when's my color coming back?"
  290. "I'm not sure, Dash. But don't worry about it. The effect shouldn't last for much longer."
  291. >"I hope so..."
  292. >You put an arm over Dash to hopefully lessen her worry
  293. >She leans against you a bit while you walk
  294. >You both slowly make your way to the library
  295. >When you make it, you knock on the door a few times
  296. >Or you would have if Twilight didn't open the door and pull you both in as soon as the first knock hit the door
  297. >She looked at you both expectantly
  298. >"Well?"
  299. "Oh! Right."
  300. >You pull out the bags of bits before Twilight's aura surrounds them and brings them to her desk
  301. >She brings out a few other bit bags and she empties the contents of them all onto the desk
  302. >A large pile of bits sits on the table before you
  303. >Twilight turns to look at the both of you
  304. >"Okay. I'll count these and get the tickets tonight."
  305. "You sure you want to do this alone, Twi?"
  306. >"Don't worry, Anon. I'll get this done quicker than you think."
  307. "Alright..well I'm going home to get some sleep. Don't stay up too late working on this, alright?"
  308. >"I've got this under control."
  309. >She gives a determined look before getting to work on counting the bits
  310. "G'night, Twi."
  311. >"Good night you two."
  312. >You begin the trek to your home, glad that your part in today's events has been done
  313. >Now all that remains is to attend the concert
  314. >Rainbow gives off a somber sigh
  315. >You drape an arm over again to help take her mind off of her coat
  316. >"So...do ya mind if I stay at your place again so we can see Twilight first thing tomorrow?"
  317. >"Rainbow, you wouldn't happen to be developing a thing for me would you?"
  318. >You chuckle to show her you're joking
  319. >"No way! Anon...you're like a brother to me."
  320. >You look down at her in surprise before smiling and pulling her closer
  321. "That makes me oddly happy."
  322. >"Whaddya mean?"
  323. "I mean, I think I like having a p0ny for a sister."
  324. >Rainbow laughs
  325.
  326. >You make in inside your home and trudge upstairs, tired from today's events
  327. >As soon as you make it in your room, you fall on the bed after putting Nelson back on his stand
  328. >Rainbow follows suit seconds later and before you know it you're out...
