Now do us all a favor and shut up. Your whinging is beginning to give me a headache.” He smirked as the boy next to him frowned and moved away quickly. Rodolphus would never understand how a boy like that had ended up in the family he had. He had no backbone and was a whiner on top of it. “Frightening the children already Rodolphus? I thought you would have lasted longer than this before giving in.” He glanced at the blonde standing next to him a scathing remark on the tip of his tongue, but movement out of the corner of his eye caught his attention. Turning his head fully in that direction he inhaled sharply at the sight before him. “Mother of Merlin,” he swore softly as he watched them. “Lucius.” The blonde next to him ignored him, continuing to carry on his conversation with someone else. “Lucius!” When the blonde didn’t answer him again Rodolphus reached out and shoved the boy. “What the hell Lestrange?” “Look.” He couldn’t help but smirk at the blonde’s reaction. It had been very similar to his own. “Is that who I think it is?” “Yes. Bellatrix and Narcissa Black. Quite a sight the pair of them make together isn’t it?” “That’s putting it mildly Rodolphus.” He merely hmm’d in response as he watched the two Black sisters make their way further into the room. Their beauty causing those around them to glare and whisper furiously. Many envied the looks bestowed upon the Black girls, and many more hated the fact that it came naturally to them and that they knew they looked good. They flaunted it about in their society, but as a Black it was their right to do so. After all they were as close to royalty as the wizarding world would get. “I have other ways I would like to put it, but I am a gentlemen Lucius.” He walked away before the other boy could comment, his head held high and a slight smirk gracing his lips as he made his way towards the centers of attention. The crowds parted as headed towards them, many recognizing him for who he was and respected his place in society. He came from a good a family with money and the proper blood status, but the Malfoy’s and the Black’s still ranked higher than his family. Not for long though. He tuned out the rest of the crowd, his eyes focused solely on the eldest Black daughter as he moved closer to them, waiting for her to see him. He would not throw himself at her feet. Beg for her attention, or demand any of the other nonsense that he had seen most boys his age doing with their courtships. No, he would wait, and with patience for her to see him and acknowledge him. It wasn’t something he did very often, wait, but when one was courting Bellatrix Black the rule book got thrown out the window. Even if it was a secret courtship, it was still one to be approached with caution. His smirk turned into a geninue smile as her laughter floated across the room. He had no idea what had been said, but from the looks she and her sister were sharing it had something to do with the crowd they found themselves in. He was growing impatient. How much longer was she going to make him wait? He had accpeted the offer, taken the rules, and done as asked. All he wanted in return was her attention. Was that really so hard for her to do? Give her attention to someone else? Especially if that someone else was possibly her future husband? They were only sixteen but in their society it was old enough. He had lost sight of her as his thoughts had wandered, cursing silently for letting himself become so lost in his own world. He had started to look around but froze when a familiar presence made itself known behind him. “Loose something Rodolphus?” Her breath ghosted across his skin, raising goosebumps in their wake as he turned slowly to face her. He kept his face impassive, but the look in his eyes said it all. “That would depend. Are you lost?” Her laughter once again filled the air as she took a small step towards him. Had he been anyone else, the thought that he had made that sound come from her would have had him going weak in the knees. Luckily though his upbringing had him reacting much better than most people he witnessed crossing her path. “It would all depend on what your definition of the word lost is Rodolphus.” This was a deadly game they were playing. One they had been playing for quite some time. He was ready for it to move to the next level, take the next step forward. And he did. In a move that went against all of the rules, against everything that had been set and determined between them, he took a step forward, closing the amount of space between them even more. “That is entirely up to you Bella. Do you have something that needs to be found? Or are you yourself lost and looking for someway out?” His tone was low, barely above a whisper but loud enough for her to hear and understand him. His eyes had darkened dramatically, the look in them conveying everything that he could not speak out loud. He waited for her to say something, hoping he hadn’t gone too far and pushed her away, ruined his chance with her. In all of his years, even though there were so few of them, he had never met another girl who complimented him so well. Who made him go weak in the knees and forget even the simplest things like how to breathe correctly. But he played with fire by approaching her. And he knew that their was a chance he could get burned. But it was a burn he was willing to accept if it meant that he could get that much closer to her. He was surprised when her arm looped through his and she turned, the crowd parting before them as a hush fell briefly before the sound of furious whispers and speculations filled the air. “Smile Rodolphus. The whole world knows now.” Her smile light up her face, casting her beauty into something else as the realization of what she had just done hit him. He tightened his arm around hers, pulling her a bit closer as the crowd swarmed in on them to get a better look at the next royal couple. He stood beside her, a small smile fixed on his face as he watched her out of the corner of his eye. She soaked up the praise and acceptance from the crowds. But why shouldn’t she? She deserved it. He caught a shock of blonde hair out of the corner of his eye and had just enough time to turn his head and catch Lucius Malfoy slipping from the room with one Narcissa Black attached firmly to his arm. Hmm so it seemed he wasn’t the only one with his eye on a Black. He just hoped Lucius knew what he was getting himself into. “Come, I grow tired of this crowd.” Her voice was barely a whisper and he hadn’t seen her lips move at all but when she walked forward he matched his stride to hers, amazed at the way people just melted before her. “As you wish my dear.” She said nothing merely led him from the main foyer and down the hall into a smaller, darker room. He didn’t even have the chance to ask her a question before he found his arms full of her and his lips pressed firmly against hers. As he pulled her closer, one hand working its way into her hair and the other pressed firmly against the small of her back a single thought ran through his head, oh yes when you were Rodolphus Lestrange and Bellatrix Black, the normal rules did not apply to you at all. ***** Two ***** Author's notes: When courting Bellatrix Black, all of the rules are null and void....even the ones you set for yourself. Especially when she isn't playing by the rules. =============================================================================== He lay quietly next to her, his hand running through her idly as he thought about the day’s events. They all knew now. He was the next member to be inducted into the Black family. Sure Bellatrix would take his last name like any proper wife but she would always be a Black and her duties to that family would always come first. He knew that and had accepted it long before he actively started to court her. It didn’t bother him that she stood higher in society than he did or that she had more money. No what mattered to him was the fact that she looked at him. That she spent time with him. She could have anyone in their world she wanted and yet she chose him. “Why did you do that? Announce us like you did?” Her head raised up causing his hand to stop what it was doing as her dark eyes locked with his. He waited for her to scold him for such a thing, to kick him out of her room for questioning her. He was surprised when she started speaking. “Father said it was time. That I needed to choose my own suitor otherwise he was going to do it for me. I want you. I want all of you and everything that may come with being with you…and with being yours.” The last part of her speech was spoken so softly that had they not been lying so close he would have missed what she said. He simply stared at her for a few moments, disbelief written clearly on his face at what she had said. Bellatrix Black was known for being fickle and picky and yet here she was stating that she wanted him and that she wanted to be his. Something stirred in him at those words, a darkness and a possessiveness he had never known before existed. He pulled her on top of him his hands fisting in her hair as he kissed her roughly, his teeth nipping at her bottom lip before his tongue thrust itself into her mouth. She wanted to be his then he would make it so. Rules be damned. She groaned at the sudden movement. She hadn’t been expecting him to manhandle her but when she found herself on top of him and his lips crushed against her she could nothing more than groan and kiss him back. She tried to wrap her arms around him, growling in frustration as she found she couldn’t. “Rodolphus…” The sound of his name falling from her lips like that sent a shiver down his spine. Instantly he rolled them so that she was pinned beneath him, a leg on either side of her as he continued to kiss her. His lips trailing across her skin and her neck. Bella mewled her head tilting back as his lips trailed down her neck. She had made a good choice. Not only was Rodolphus from a good family with the proper bloodlines and rights of his own but he was good with her. She couldn’t have asked for anything more. He smiled as her head tilted back his teeth nipping at a patch of skin on her neck before his tongue swept over it soothing the pain away. His lips trailed back up until they met hers again as one of his hands slipped under her dress, his fingers caressing the bare skin they found there. Bella froze as his fingers met her skin, pulling back from the kiss her forehead rested against his as she tried to regain her breath. “We can’t. You know the rules Rodolphus.” He growled in frustration as once again she pulled away from him, stopped him from doing what he knew they both wanted. She had been denying him this for months, ever since they had started she had been denying. He rolled away from her, his head in his hands as he tried to regain control once more. She sighed, her eyes slipping closed as he moved away. She wanted to, more than he would know but she couldn’t. Not even if she had wanted to, which she desperately did could she. Rolling onto her side she reached out for him, her hand resting on his back. “I’m sorry.” He shrugged away from her touch, getting up from the bed he moved across the room, picking up his robe where he had discarded it earlier. “I should go. I’ll see you tomorrow for lunch.” The door closed quietly behind him even though on the inside his emotions were raging and demanding that he make a bigger exit. She lay there for a few minutes staring at the closed door as the last few minutes replayed in her head. She hated this. Hated herself for what she was doing to him but she couldn’t help it. Getting up from the bed she followed the same path across the room that he had, grabbing her wrap before slipping out the door and up the stairs into her own room. Once inside she threw the frustrating piece of cloth across the room as she ripped the pins out of her hair violently as she headed for her vanity. She sat down hard on the seat as she stared at her reflection. Her cheeks were still flushed from his kisses, and a faint red mark was visible on her neck. With a growl of frustration she knocked all of the bottles and miscellaneous items on her vanity top to the floor as she leaned forward her head in her hands. “Stupid bloody rules. I’d like to show you where you can take your rules and shove them.” Her father and uncle had set rules for her. If she ever had any hope of seeing any of her inheritance or of keeping her good standing as the heiress to the Black family she would keep her hands to herself until she was married. She could kiss all she want but they had made it perfectly clear that if she had any form of sex whatsoever with her fiancé before they were married she would be disowned before she could blink. It sucked being a girl some days. “Something wrong Bella?” She jumped, spinning round in an instant her wand in her hand before she realized it was only Sirius. “Fuck! What are you trying to do give me a heart attack?” “Sorry.” He moved further out of the shadows taking a seat in one of the chairs near her. “Haven’t you ever heard of knocking?” “Yeah I’ve heard of it. Not too fond of it. I like the element of surprise.” He grinned sheepishly at her before leaning back into the chair. “Where were you earlier?” She turned back around to face her mirror, reaching up to pull another pin from her hair. “I was there…long enough to see your choice.” She froze, her had part of the way away from her head as she glanced at him out of the corner of her eye. “Oh?” Was all she said before continuing to take down her hair. “Lestrange, Bella? Of all the people, you choose Lestrange? Why him?” She didn’t answer him, refusing to look at him as she removed the last pin, her hair falling down around her face in loose curls. “Father said I should choose. That it was time. So I did.” Her eyes flew up to his as he appeared behind her in the mirror, his hands reaching out to gather up her hair. “Why him?” His lips were a but an inch if that from her neck, his warm breath causing goose bumps to rise. “Because.” “That’s not an answer.” He moved closer to her, one arm wrapping around her from behind. The pale of his skin a stark distraction against the black of her gown. “What do you want me to say Sirius?” She relaxed back against him as his lips finally pressed against her neck, his arm tightening around her. “The truth. You know you want to.” “I can’t.” “You can.” His teeth sunk into her neck, the pain causing her to groan as her head tipped forward. “Say it Bella.” “Sirius please…” “Say it,” his lips were right next to her ear, his tongue flicking out to taste the skin behind it as she gave in. “I can’t have you so I chose him.” She hated herself for saying those words, for voicing for the first time ever between the two of them that it would never be what they wanted, that it could never be the more that they wanted but never said aloud. He was her cousin, sure it was normal in her family for cousins to be used as practice but things had long since gone beyond that level between Sirius and herself. She loved him, more than you should love a cousin and he had told her on more than one occasion that he loved her as well, but for some reason she couldn’t help but think that it wasn’t in the same way. She saw the way he looked at others, one particular other and it was never the same when he looked at her. Yet at the same time she loved Rodolphus as well. There was something about the other man that drew her to him. That drove her wild with want and desire and made it so that she wanted nothing more than to lose herself in him, much the same way as it was with Sirius. Only things would never be able to be like that between her and her cousin, not even if she wanted it. No matter how badly she wanted to be able to just lock the two of them away and loose herself in him permanently she couldn't. Somewhere inside of her something hurt unlike nothing she had ever felt before. The end was coming and she knew it. Question was, would she be strong enough to handle it when it did? When her entire world fell apart would she be strong enough to stand tall at the end of it all? “What are you thinking?” His lips trailed across the back of her neck as he sat down behind her, his arms around her waist as his chin rested on her shoulder. “Us.” “Are they good thoughts of us?” She turned her head away from his reflection in the mirror unable to answer his question. “Bella?” “I’m sorry.” His lips pressed against the side of her neck once again. “It’s alright.” No, no its not and it never will be. She stared at the two of them in the mirror her thoughts saying what she never could. Getting engaged was supposed to be the beginning of everything but for her it was only the ending of something she had known all along would come to an end. Her days with Sirius were numbered.
