Updates will be random but not far apart. ***** Chapter 1 ***** Max woke up to the sound of muffled voices coming from outside of the tent. He pulled up the covers over his head and turned to face towards the wall, not wanting social interaction. "Doesn't this camp know how to sleep in?" he mumbled to himself and huffed. The sound of shuffling outside the tent made Max sit up and glance to the door, Neil got up to the sound of that as well. Nikki popped her head in, bouncing excitedly. “You guys will never guess what is scheduled for today!” She exclaimed while yanking down the zipper to the door. Max rolled his eyes and got out of bed, grabbing his sweatshirt. He pulled it on and ruffled his hair a couple times before plopping down to the ground to put on his shoes. “It’s not hiking again is it?” Neil quickly asked, getting dressed while they talked. “I’m not in the mood today to be on a 5 hour hike with a counselor that won't let us take a break.” “Well you’ll be happy to hear it’s…” Nikki does a drumroll on her knees for build up, “Swimming!” As if on cue, Max and Neil groan simultaneously. Nikki just laughed and grabbed both of them, yanking them outside. The other kids were already heading towards the Mess Hall for breakfast. The trio quick stopped at the washrooms to brush their teeth before heading where the rest of the campers were. “Oh boy the food looks edible for once. Wonder how genetically modified all this shit is.” Max commented as he glanced at a couple trays the kids were carrying. Pancakes and bacon, which looked better than normal. It almost made him hungry. “That’s because I helped make the batter from scr-” David added, stepping up close to the group. “Cram it camp man.” Max snapped, kicking David’s knee to get him to back off, and he did, snickering as he walked away to go talk to other campers. After getting their food they went and sat down in their usual place. Nikki immediately scarfed her food down whole, which earned another collective groan from the two boys. “I can’t believe they actually made good food for once.” Neil said, giving the food a questionable look. Max took that as an okay to actually eat the food. If the nerd says it’s fine then it must be ok to eat. The three ate in silence for nearly the whole time until Nikki finished. She just rambled about how much she loved nature and how she was ready to have underwater fights with the camp’s mascot. People were starting to get up and take care of their trays, so the trio followed. David was standing at the entrance of the Mess Hall, holding a couple boxes in his arms. He dropped them onto the ground, the noise grabbing everyone's attention. “Good morning Campbell campers! Today is going to be fun!” He exclaims doing jazz hands. “Here in these boxes I have swimsuits for all of you, boxes are labeled for which one you should take.” Only a couple of the kids walked up to get a suit, so David ushered the rest. Neil and Nikki got up eventually, dragging Max by his arms. “You can try, but there's no fucking way I'm getting into that water.” Max growled, grabbing a suit. He cringed at the yellow and green fabric, camo colors. Gross. Everyone shuffled back to their tents to change, then headed back out to the lake front. Both Gwen and David stood at the docks. David was also in swim trunks, while the co-counselor was still fully dressed. She claimed she is just going to lifeguard, but she had multiple 'Butts & Bods’ magazines on her. “Today is basically a free day, no specific activities are scheduled. So let's just have fun cooling off in the lake everyone!” David held his smile, not making eye contact with any campers. No one cared enough to question him. “If anyone needs this, we have arm floaties too!” A couple of the kids snickered at that. David walked back to the Mess Hall to grab the tote of floaties. Max had changed, but he still wore his hoodie. He knew Nikki would try to pull him in the water, so it's best to have a swimsuit on just in case. Most of the campers we're in the water by now, it was him and Neil that didn't move a muscle to get in. “Come on guys!” Nikki shouted up to them. “Don't you want to join?” “I don't see why not. Everyone's enjoying it.” Neil said as he shrugged, walking over to the docks. He hopped in next to Nikki and she immediately jumped on him splashing a bunch. Max couldn't help but laugh at their mixed arguing and yelling. Max stayed back by the trees, away from the lake. He regretted wearing the sweatshirt still because it was only getting hotter, even in the shade. He grabbed the hem of his sweatshirt, beginning to pull it up when he nearly yelled when someone touched his shoulder. Max immediately yanked it back down, glaring up at whoever touched him. David, of course. “Don't you want to swim with your friends?” David asked, tilting his head to the side. “I'd rather die than participate.” Max snapped back. “Come on buddy,” David laughed, picking him up over his shoulder and started walking closer to the lake. David loved these moments. He could talk to Max separately and stare without being questioned. There was just something about him that made his stomach flip. Max acted older than he is, and David found that quite interesting. He knows that something must being going on at home, but David knew enough not to pester him about it. Not that he would ever talk about it anyway. They got closer to the docks and Max started smacking his chest with his tiny fists. “David if you fucking drop me in the water I WILL kill you!” Max angrily shouted, red faced from being carried in front of everyone. “I would never.” David smiled as he slid max off his shoulder, a hand on his ass to support him. How fragile and tiny he was, oh how much David would do to make sure he's happy. To make sure he knows he's wanted and loved by someone. When Max got balance, he turned and smacked David's arm. “A little fucking close there buddy.” Max stared at him with squinted eyes. David opened his mouth to say something but quickly shut it, turning when his faced turned red. Max kept his gaze and pretended to spit on him. Max turned away from him, pulling off his sweatshirt and tossed it next to David. “Knock it off camp man I can feel your eyes burning my back you fucking creep.” Max growled as he sat down, sticking his feet into the water. “Hey! Language…and don't say that so loud.” David held a finger to his mouth in a hushing motion, which was worthless since Max wasn't even looking. “You aren't even going to deny that?” “A-ah no, I'm, no Max I wouldn't do that-” he fumbled, not sure how to respond. “Fuck off, you're wasting good oxygen, I'm participating now, go stare at other kids you creep.” David laughed nervously and disagreed with his statement. He grabbed Max's sweatshirt before walking back to the group. He hid it under his arm, and sneaked back to the counselors cabins. He saw no one when he glanced back, so he quickly went inside and locked the door. “He's not wrong.” David laughed to himself, clutching Max's sweatshirt to his chest. He's been doing well, being subtle with his interactions with Max, not wanting to raise any suspicion. His whole life he's been ignoring his own feelings knowing that his interests are not socially acceptable. He figured this out when he was about 16. He shoved them all down, trying to forget and teach himself to love people his age, but in the long run it never really worked out. Of course he wanted to work at the camp since he was a kid and that’s what the majority of his reason was for applying. Ever since he started working here, it was easy hiding his feelings. That was until Max had to start coming to camp. That made everything come back. Everything horrible that he cried about when he was younger, what made him start taking medication, just like that his whole life flipped again. There was just something so different about him. He really didn't act his age, he knows so much and stands out from the rest of them. Ever since the start, Max has been his favorite. Oh the things David wish he could do to the child, but he knows that it will never be possible. Also the whole... illegal thing too. David shook his head, trying to push the guilt away. He couldn’t get in trouble if no one finds out about it. He held the sweatshirt tighter and pushed his face into it, inhaling Max's scent. He sighed and grinned. It was almost like Max was there with him. His hands moved automatically, the only sounds in the room were his rapid breathing and the clink of the belt unbuckling. - - Max sat at the edge of the dock for a bit, staring down at the water. Every couple minutes, Nikki would swim up and try to grab him by the ankle and yank him down but he cussed her out and continued to be stubborn. Eventually he got sick of sitting there so he stood up, glancing behind him to check to see if his sweatshirt was still there. For some odd reason it wasn't. “Nikki I swear to god if you took my hoodie and it's at the bottom of the lake…” Max trailed off, thinking of where it could go. Sure he should've been paying more attention, but he was being too stuck up to move or look around. He groaned and rubbed his eyes. “I bet David knows where. Tall bastard.” Max kicked a stone as he started walking up to the trails and took a left. Max hoped David would just put it back in his tent, that way he could go back to ignoring him the rest of the day. A sigh of annoyance escaped his lips. It wasn't there. He kicked his bare feet in the rocky dirt, ignoring the sharp pains every now and then of the sharper rocks and headed up to the counselor's cabin. “David!” He yelled, smacking his fist against the door. “Open up or I'm breaking in!” He quickly moved a rock, grabbing the bobby pin from underneath it. Perfect for these situations. Max was getting annoyed by the lack of response. He fiddled with the lock for a bit, getting it to click open. He turned the doorknob slowly, peeking inside. “David..?” Max asked, tip-toeing inside. He quickly shut the door, and turned to see why he wasn't answering. Max’s eye twitched when he saw the situation. He stood speechless as he stared at David who was hunched over, his chest heaving as he sputtered for breath. Oh hey, there's his sweatshirt, with his face all up in it, breathing heavily. David made a high pitched whine with his face still shoved in the piece of clothing. He laid there catching his breath. “David. What the actual fuck are you doing.” Max asked cautiously in a quiet voice. David's head snapped up in confusion, but then immediately drained of all color. ***** Chapter 2 ***** “Please, Max it's not what you think…” David spoke, his voice just above a whisper. He was visibly shaking, glancing around the room avoiding making any eye contact. Max shifted his weight foot to foot, obviously uncomfortable. David yanked his shorts back up in a panic. “Why the fuck would you…” Max started, covering his mouth with his hand. “That’s a fucking kids sweatshirt. MY sweatshirt David. Do you know how fucking disgusting that is? Are you able to process that in your shit filled head?” Max’s voice raised slowly as he went on. His hands were clenched. “No wonder you work here, you love watching kids all day don’t you, I should’ve known you were a fucking pedo-” Max was cut off by David quickly getting up at advancing towards him. Max’s eyes widened as he breathed in, preparing to scream. David quickly clasped a hand over Max’s mouth and shoulder. He did all he could to not stare at his bare chest and stomach. His mind wandered for a bit but he snapped back to reality when Max started trying to speak against his hand. “Please stop shouting Max I-” David tried to speak but Max kept trying to talk, grabbing at David’s hand over his mouth. David could see the fear in his eyes. He knew he felt extremely sorry Max found him like that, but there was that ever so tiny feeling of wanting to see him like this that made it hard to apologize. Max slowly started to get weaker, tiring himself out from thrashing around trying to get David off of him. “Max, I need to talk to you about this. Please just don't scream if I let go of your mouth.” David said. Max slowly nodded, his eyes still wide. David took a deep breath and removed his hand. “DAVID YOU F-” Max yelled, but immediately was shut down by David slapping a hand over his mouth again. Max screamed as hard as he could into his hand, but it wasn't loud enough to be heard by anyone else. David was biting his lip, his face red as his eyes darted from the door to the window. Max's screaming died down, he now was clinging to David's wrist, his eyes screwed shut. David released his hand from Max's mouth and grabbed his other shoulder, sitting him down on the ground. David brought his hands back to his sides and sat down awkwardly. They sat there for a bit, letting Max get his breath back. “Okay, buddy-” “Don't fucking c-call me that.” “Okay, Max. I need… I need you to keep this a secret.” David said in a hushed voice. “If you could just… forget that it ever happened then-” “How could I forget this shit? I'm this fucking close to stabbing your eyes out with my fingers and calling the cops.” Max growled curling his hand into a ball. He raised his hand and pulled back, ready to take a swing at David, but David caught his hand and sighed. Max was shaking. “Listen, I need you to not tell anyone about this okay? I can't lose my job, and I'm sure you don't want everyone pushing for answers from you. So if we could just come to an agreement, I think we'll be fine.” David reasoned. “You mean YOU will be fine. I couldn't give two shits about you keeping your job. This fucking camp deserves to go under.” Max grit his teeth. He sat silent for a minute. “If we are making a deal, here’s a couple things.” “Anything Max.” “First of all, I won't participate in anything now. Maybe if you do some activity that's actually beneficial, I'll see what I can do but no more fucking hikes, no more artsy shit or theatre shit I'm staying out of it. Secondly, you're staying the fuck away from me. If you come near me at all and try to talk, I will scream and attract attention. I’m not afraid to tell the campers or even Gwen about what you have done.” “Max that's a little-” “Don't cut me off camp man. I'm dead serious about this. You can go ahead and keep your job you disgusting creep, I won't tell anyone. Just follow my rules. ” Max flashed a grin, his eyes said it all though, he was ready to make this a game. David was basically under his thumb at this point. “Also, don’t expect those to be the only rules I make, I’ll think about this.” “That's… understandable. You can't skip out forever.. but..” David tried to think of a reasonable set of time. “Maybe a week without activities?” “Too short. Make it a month.” “No that's-” “I don't think you should be complaining,” Max growled. “I think this is settled.” He spat as he turned to leave. “Keep the fucking sweatshirt, I'm not taking it back.” And with that he got up and left, slamming the door behind him. David stayed on the floor, covering his face with his hands. He should be filled with shame. He should’ve lost his feelings towards Max with that. His heart still ached for him though, a laughter bubbling up from his chest. His mind swam with options of what he could've done with Max in the room. His mind swam with ideas of what he can do to Max if he keeps making agreements to keep him quiet. David knows he's sick. He's known for a long time now. He gets up, walks over to the sweatshirt and picks it up. He inhales the scent that still lingers on it. Moving over to one of the dresser drawers, he picks up a couple of his clothes then shoves the sweatshirt in the back, placing everything back in neatly. Stepping in front of his mirror, he re-adjusted his clothes and fixed his hair before cracking a wide, convincing smile. “Time to round… almost everyone back up to their tents to change and get lunch.” David said to himself, leaving the cabin. - - - The kids were in the middle of getting changed back into their normal clothes. David was at the Mess Hall already, pacing back and forth. “Do you mind telling me where you were the past couple of hours?” Gwen shouted as she slammed open the doors making David jump. “I was just taking care of a few things up here! I was positive you could handle watching them on your own.” David smiled at her. She gave him a questionable look but shrugged, knowing David wasn’t the type to lie. “Oh, and did you also see Max by any chance? I saw him walk back to the trails and he didn’t come back.” She added. David thought for a minute on what to say. “Yeah, he stopped by to tell me he felt sick and that he was going to crash in his tent for a while. He really didn’t look good, so I let him.” David lied through his teeth. He ignored the blush creeping up on his face while the scene played in his head from when Max walked in on him. “But other than that I haven’t seen him since.” “Should I go check on him to see if he has a fever?” Gwen asked, wanting to make sure no kid was going to die from a sickness, again. The paperwork is too much. David shook his head no. “I’m sure it was just one of those days.” David finished the conversation with that as the campers started coming in, hunger in their eyes. David was surprised to see that Max came in. “Oh, do you feel better ya lil shit?” Gwen asked, ruffling Max’s hair. Max shot a questioning look at David. “Yeah yeah, I took a nap, feels great.” Max shoved her hand off and walked over to get in line. Max could feel David staring at him. He was keeping his distance though, and that’s what Max wanted. He looked back to see that, yes he was staring, but David quickly turned away and started talking to some campers that were already sitting down. The rest of the day passed quickly, Gwen running the last activities for the day. David kept zoning out when it became his time to help, so she made him clock in early and go back to the counselor's cabins. He didn’t argue with her. David was tempted to stop by at Max’s tent since Max went back there after lunch because he ‘felt sick again’. David knew well enough not to go, even if his mind wanted to. He unlocked the door to the cabin, then locked it once he was inside and stripped of most his clothes. He had a hard time falling asleep, his mind still racing with possibilities. Possibilities and ideas that made his chest tingle and his blood flow to… specific places. David was disgusting, and he couldn’t wait to see how this would play out.
