The kind of day you just can’t deal with anything or anyone. School was as usual, boring, dull, and monotonous. She wasn’t entirely smart as her grandfather but she can see where the hatred for it comes from. And yet he tells her to go. Sometimes whenever she refused to leave his house and decide to just help him or go on an adventure she was either dragged or get kicked out, worse case scenario, she would be stuck on earth while he does all the fun stuff in space. Morticia followed the clock’s hands as it ticked. 10 9 8 7 6 5 4 3 2 1 The bell rang and Morticia was out of her seat before the teacher could speak. Being the first to leave, she sped through the halls, dodging the students that were now filling the small space. “Smith!” Yelled principal Vagina when he watched her. Morticia stopped, rolled her eyes, before turning around to smile at him. Shifting her feet from left to right, itching to go to her grandfather’s place. “Yeah, principal Vagina?” “Don’t think about skipping class again to spend time with your crazy grandfather or else you’ll be expelled!” ‘Oh boohoo, poor me.’ She cynically thought. “This is your daily reminder that you’ll amount to nothing like your father if you did. Now get!” He grumbled out before turning around, scolding another student who seemed surprised to find him behind them like a ghost. Morticia shook her head before speed walking out of the campus, making no further comment as she thought of growing up to be like her dad plagued her before it was pushed in the back of her mind. Jogging straight to her grandfather’s house, Morticia grabbed the key under the black mat to open the highly secured door. There was a hidden camera somewhere but she was sure that Doc knew she was here. Opening the door and closing it behind her, she was met with a load of gadgets, papers, folders, boxes, and bottles all in the shelves, under the coffee table, the maroon sofa, even on top of the old fashion tv. Morticia sighed, putting the bag down, tired already without doing anything. She had begged Doc countless of times to create a cleaning robot or at least get a damn Roomba before the room looks less of a room and more of an old abandoned office turned crack house. There was a second floor of the small cramped house Doc was living in and at least that was clean. Well, at least the rooms, she couldn’t say the same to the hall. “Doc, I’m home!” She called from where she stood, picking up a few bottles and placing them in one corner for her to easily gather and take out. There was no reply. That means three things, he’s gone, working, or dead. Morticia thought that he was probably in the garage tinkering with something and she wants in on that but he could be gone since the door to the garage is closed. Abandoning her earlier task she went straight to door that led to the forbidden place and found it slightly ajar. She slowly opened it revealing the hunched figure of her grandfather. The garage door was closed and the spaceship was parked recklessly near it. The garage was, thankfully, not a mess compared to the living room. Doc didn’t really like anyone touching his stuff and since some are highly dangerous to humans he kept at least this place proper, one of the things that are preventing this place to look like a total disaster is her mother’s constant nagging and Morticia knows first hand what’s that like. “Hey Doc, just got home, what are you working on?” She asked walking towards him to stand next to where he was sitting. The table was large, made of titanium, it has scratches and bumps because of constant use. Doc, who was modifying his portal gun and didn’t look up from his work. “I know M-Morti. Just fiURRPxing this f-fucking thing.” Doc grabbed his screwdriver, putting the white lid on the bottom. The green bulb glowed as he does so. “Where’r we going to go this time Doc? Diamond City? Another foreign star system?” She eagerly said before sitting at the edge of the table. Staring down her grandpa with stars in her eyes. “Hold your da-damn horses Morti, we aren’t going to any of those p-places.” Finishing the modification of the portal gun, Doc wiped the white exterior with a dirty fabric before examining it again. Her grandfather smirked, standing up to face her. “My portal gun can now- can fucking shoot through two hundred di- different dimensions Morti. Never b-been visited by any fucking Rick, I’ll be the first M-Morti, we’ll be the first.” “What? That’s insane!” Morticia gasped, as she gaped at the gun Doc was holding. “That’s gonna open a lot of new possibilities!” “Portal us new possi-fucking-bilities you m-mean.” Doc punched the new coordinates in his portal gun before shooting them a portal to somewhere no Rick and Morty has ever been in. Morticia was grinning from ear to ear, face overflowing with excitement. Doc gave a brief but proud smile at the green portal then to his young companion. “Come on M-Morti.” Doc went through the portal knowing full well that Morticia was just right behind him. ***** First Meeting ***** “Mrs. Smith please understand, this can’t keep going or else we have to put her in a special class.” Morti heard her advisor said inside of her classroom. She wiped her sweaty palms on her jeans as she waited outside, sitting in one white plastic chair. “Wait no, my daughters a bright young girl, I’m sure whatever it is can be dealt with,” Beth stressed, voice muffled from the napkin she used to wipe tears in her eyes. “Maybe that’s for the best Beth, maybe putting her in a special class would make her feel more… included.” The word ‘normal’ was replaced and Morti was quite impressed that her dad was making an effort. “No Jerry, she isn’t what you both think of her! Morti was never like this and you know it. Something must have happened for her to act this way.” Morticia’s eye twitched, shuffling uneasily in her chair. How long has it been since she saw the world like she saw it now? One? Two? Three years? She couldn’t remember, she was fourteen now and has entered freshman year in high school labeled as one quiet girl. Some would say strange too but she was called worse, it’s nothing. She was having a lot of trouble academically and the fact that she has a hard time fitting in with her peers made it even worse. “There’s nothing we can do.” Said her advisor in a pitiful tone and Beth’s face got red in anger. “What do you mean there’s nothing you could do?! You’re her teacher, you could at least do something!” Jerry put a hand on her shoulder when she tried to stand up, her expression shifting to sadness quickly as she sat back down, crying into her napkin. Jerry rubbed her back as she sobbed. There was silence and Morti could only hear her mom, she closed her eyes and felt the disappointment in herself for being no good other than a waste of space. “We’ll adjust, if she doesn’t improve by next week then we have no choice.” Morticia heard Jerry’s sudden agreement and Beth’s strained thanks and apology. ~*~ The ride home was silent, she didn’t miss the tired eyes her parents direct her way while they thought she wasn’t looking. When they got home she was left alone again, it was a relief since the tense atmosphere was too much to bear and glad that her mom and dad felt the same. Snuffles, the dog she received on her thirteenth birthday, got up and barked, wagging his tail as he trotted his way to her. Morticia crouched briefly to pat the dog on the head. She walked up the stairs and Snuffles being too small had the struggle following her all the way up, he barked and whined. When she got up the stairs she saw Summer already done with showering, drying her hair with a towel, “Hey, how did the meeting go?” Summer asked, yawning before grabbing her phone inside the pocket of her sweatpants, checking her texts she missed while in the shower. Morticia didn’t say anything and Summer rolled her eyes. “Why do I even bother talking to you when you don’t even say anything?” She sighed out, looking expectedly at her sister to say something but was met with nothing. Morticia avoided eye contact and was shifting her feet from left to right, hands twitching ever so slightly, itching to go to her room. Summer sighed again, “Guess it didn’t end well, whatever, I’m just gonna grab something to snack on downstairs. Let’s hope mom isn’t there drinking the whole cabinet.” She went passed Morticia, Summer glanced briefly at her before she got down the stairs, greeting Snuffles with a baby voice. Morticia finally got to her room, closing the door behind her. ~*~ Dinner was also awkward and silent with only the spoons and forks scraping on the plates. They were having green beans and carrots with chicken and rice. It was simple and bland and Morticia could see that her mom didn’t make any effort since Summer doesn’t usually eat since she usually snacks and her dad is always playing with his tablet. Which got the attention of Beth and Morticia tensed in her seat knowing full well what was about to happen. Summer knew too since she decided to just tap on her phone and roll her eyes. “Have you applied from that office you kept bragging about the other day?” Here we go. “I have Beth, how many times do I have to tell you that they’re still looking through it.” Jerry gave a frustrated sigh and Beth became livid. “Isn’t it two days enough to review your application?” “God Beth,” Sighed out Jerry, “It’s a big company, of course, a lot of people are applying for the position. It would take at least… a month or something.” Beth’s eyes widened in disbelief. “Can you just look somewhere else? I really need the help paying the bills.” “Somewhere else?” Her dad gave a dry chuckle, Morticia just stared at her plate, pushing the food instead of eating. She lost her appetite already. “Why don’t you just straight up tell me that you think I’m incapable of this job!“ “I’m just saying that maybe you should apply for another job in the meantime while waiting for the approval! I can’t be the only one paying for everything!” Summer’s face scrunched up while she tapped faster on her phone. “Well if I only knew that-“ Jerry was cut off mid-sentence when Morticia stood up abruptly, before walking away from the dinner table. She could feel their eyes stare at her, “Look what you’ve done!” She seethed, it was hushed but Morticia heard it as she made her way upstairs. “Me?! Why is it always my fault?!” Jerry yelled in defense and Summer groaned out in annoyance. “Can you please stop-“ That was the only thing Morticia heard before closing the door behind her again for the second time, she let her back hit the door before sliding down to hug her knees. She sat there for a minute thinking if she never existed maybe she wouldn’t have to live this kind of life. She sighed as she looked around her dark room, the room was slightly messy. The bed unmade and there were stacks of astrology and astronomy books under it that she reads from time to time. A bag of treats for Snuffles next to the bedside table, her study table has paper scattered on top of it, sketches of people and objects with small observations written next to it. There was slightly an open portfolio where she had drew and painted the asterisms with watercolour. Morticia stood up to grab the small white mp3 player laying on the second to the bottom of the shelf where figurines lay. She admired the nine planets and the small globe she bought with her lunch money. Morti put on her headset and choose a song she finds comforting. She threw herself into bed and let the time pass by. The girl stared at the poster of Nikola Tesla than the poster of NASA. If Morti was smart enough she could possibly get a job there but for now, she closed her eyes and let the music drown her problems. ~*~ The teen woke up from her small nap, she stared at her digital clock on her bedside table that read twelve forty-seven. She got up and rubbed her eyes before looking at her room in a daze. Deciding that she didn’t want to go back to sleep she stood up to look out her window giving her the perfect view of the houses and most importantly, the sky. The telescope that was next to the window stood there and it called to Morticia, she opened the window and took the telescope and positioned it just right before looking through it. There wasn’t anything to look at since she has limited space unlike when she’s on the front lawn. Orion’s belt could be seen, the three bright stars were next to each other making it easy for Morticia to identify them. It’s always like this in January, the famous hunter accompanied her along with his hunting dogs. She smiled faintly, admiring the small lights that painted the night sky when she spotted a plane. Morticia was confused and pulled away from her telescope to look at the night and saw a small dot in the distance, falling, straight down from earth. She hastily looked through the telescope again, moving it so she could get a closer look but the thing was moving too fast. Is it an asteroid or something? No, if it was someone would have known and it wasn’t on fire but it was sure as heck smoking. Morticia could hear the crash from the distance, a soft boom reached her and she itched to investigate. Morticia fought with herself but found herself grabbing her bag and dropping the contents on the bed before putting a flashlight and taser in it, just in case she meets anyone unpleasant. Morticia opened the door slowly and made sure to take light steps. The things fall was somewhere near the entrance of the forest where Summer sneaked out with her ex. It would take a long time for her to reach it if she went by foot, her bike popped up in her head and she went to the garage to fetch it. When she successfully sneaked herself and her bike out, she pedaled her way to the crash. She didn’t do exercise, to be honest, she sucks at it, but the adrenaline and something at the back of her mind to push and check out what it was gave her enough energy and strength. Morti saw the crash in the distance, it’s headlights blinking on and off the…. spaceship?? Didn’t get the peoples attention, it was strange that no one seemed to have heard the crash. She parked her bike far enough away from the strange aircraft. She froze a few feet from it when it’s door opened, a black heavy smoke left the inside of the ship and something was moving, it appeared to be human but it was dark so she took the flashlight from her bag with shaky fingers and flicked the switch to turn it on. It was an old man cursing at her to turn off the lights. “The f-fuck, get that shit outta- outta my fucking eyes.” The blue-haired man said, glowing as he gave his eyes some shade from the light. “Wait a f-fucking minute…” He said with recognition in his face and Morti was confused and genuinely scared, the bag was open and she was holding it while she held the flashlight in her right hand. If she dropped the flashlight fast enough she could grab the taser and defend herself just in time if the man decided to do anything she didn’t want him to do. “What are you d-doing out here, you should be in f-fucking bed.” The man approached, his unibrow went down in the middle, he was clearly upset and Morti’s instinct screamed. She dropped the flashlight, reached for the taser and aimed engaged it when the old dude was a short distance near her. The mysterious stranger’s face was confused then suddenly came to a realization, since he didn’t have enough time to react, he couldn’t dodge the attack. He dropped to the ground, paralyzed, Morticia just stared for a few minutes, heart beating wildly. She was safe for now, she fixed her taser and went around the man on the ground to approach the spaceship. It wasn’t smoking as much anymore but it was still damaged, her feet bumped on a bottle and she looked to stare at it. Morticia grabbed the thing and sniffed, she recoiled from the smell. It was so strong that it made her eyes water, she puts it back to the ground. Was it alcohol? She peered through the door and saw various different shapes and sizes of bottles. What amazes her, however, was the buttons and the materials it was used to make it. It looks like it was made out of garbage. The spaceship shook and a long mechanical arm sprung out of the ship grabbing her neck, she struggled to remove the hand, scratching at the hand’s metal surface. “IiiiiiiiiiiiinnntrRUUder.” It said in a broken mechanical voice machine. “SssSScanning for- for faceeeeeeiii RRReEEcCooognitIIIiiiiIon.” A green light moved down her face then to her body. “MMMMMmooOOOORRttt…SSSSmIiTT- SMiithHH CONFirme…d.” The voice died slowly and the mechanical arm’s grip loosened and falling limply on the ground. Morticia’s legs wobbled, her mind screaming warning bells. “This was a bad idea.” She said to herself, gasping for air. Something moved way back, Morticia’s head snapped up to see something purple. There was two, they peered at her. It seemed that they were whispering to each other. Does she have to use the taser again? But it was charging and there was two of them. They revealed their faces and Morticia couldn’t suppress the gasp that left her lips, they have four eyes each, lips big and they had antennas that Morti failed to see earlier. The two stood up in alarm revealing four arms each and the gears turned inside her head. Aliens. ALIENS. And what’s worse is that they were half naked! Morticia couldn’t let out a scream her throat felt clogged up but her body reacted faster than her brain could. Her survival instincts kicking again in full gear as she ran past the already strange man on the ground and straight to her bike. She went straight home, her mind running a mile a minute. The cold air hit her hard and the wind was loud as it passed her ears but the pounding of her heart could still be heard. When she got back she just threw the bike on the nearby bushes, letting it hard enough to be recognized, her mom would be too tired to see it anyways. Morticia sneaked in and went straight to her room. The visit felt surreal and it felt like a dream and she believed that it might be so she went back to bed, hitting the mattress face first. Tomorrow she’ll just brush it off. Sleep didn’t come easy so she decided to draw what she saw, making it seemed more real every stroke of her pencil. She drew until she got tired and slept with her sketchbook at her side. ~*~ Morticia couldn’t believe it. This must be some horrible nightmare. “Morticia, Summer, meet your grandpa Rick. My dad.” Beth said through tears, Summer was curious and engaged him in a conversation and Jerry was frowning with his arms crossed but Morticia was sweating through her yellow oversized sweater. “I’m so glad your back dad, I missed you.” Her mom hugged Rick and he rubbed her back, kissing her forehead. “Me too.” She didn’t believe him. Summer asked question after question and Morticia only observed, Jerry and Beth disappeared in the kitchen, it clearly shows that her dad didn’t like his father-in-law one bit and for the record, she doesn’t either, with what she saw earlier this morning. Despite it being so unbelievable and interesting. “Does your s-sister talk?” Rick asked, pulling out a flask from his white lab coat, an alcoholic?? Summer sighed and shook her head before changing the subject, Morti noticed that Rick only answer vaguely and shares little. This man has secrets and she didn’t trust someone who hides so much. Untrustworthy, for sure. When Summe got bored and decided to bother someone else, she got up and left the living room, typing away on her phone leaving Rick and Morti alone. Her anxiety spiked up, she gulped but remained quiet. She was sitting in the lone chair her dad usually sits on and thank god she did since she didn’t want to sit next to him. Snuffles decided to make an appearance and she sighed in relief when the sweet dog approached her. “Okay cut that s-shit already, tell me why f-fuck were you out in the middle of the night M-Morti.” She didn’t answer but she internally cringed when he said her nickname, she just kept playing with Snuffles who licked her hand. “Hey, you even- even listening Morti? I asked you a question.” Morticia can tell what a person is by how well they handle themselves and how they carry a conversation. What she read from this man was something dangerous, including the thing she saw, she didn’t want to deal with someone like him but there was some kind of pull that made her so curious about him. Maybe it was something to do with the spaceship or the aliens, they might be cosplayers who knows. This old man could be a pervert who’s into some weird stuff, she wouldn’t be sure and she didn’t even know if she wants to know. “Say s-something you little shit, after you t-tased me I at least d-deserve some sort of apology.” Morticia kept quiet and stopped playing with Snuffles when she heard arguing inside the kitchen. Rick was expectant when she stopped playing with the dog, instead of saying anything at all, she stood up and left the room. “Unbe-fucking-lievable.” Rick whispered under his breath, like he wasn’t expecting this sort of reaction, before she could get a distance away from Rick, he said something that made her blood run cold, "One thing for s-sure Morti is that people should p-pay attention to your d-damn warning signs but that taser shit won’t w-work on me again. T-Try harder next time if you wanna- wanna kill me.” Morticia gripped the ends of her oversized sweater and ran up the stairs. ***** Red Planet ***** Chapter Summary They walked under the heat for hours only to discover this. "Here we are M-Morti." Said Rick, putting the portal gun inside his lab coat before stepping out of the garbage ship he invented. Morti followed, looking around with confusion written on her face, the planet was like a dessert. All sand and rocks and there weren't much to look at, it was also hard to breathe and the sun was big and bright making Morti's eyes hurt. "Where are we Doc?" She already started sweating her clothes starting to stick to her skin, it didn't help she was wearing long sleeves and skinny jeans. "That's what we're about to f-find out Morti, what's haven't-been-discovered part you d-didn't understand? Dum dum." He pulled out his flask and drank the contents, his forehead already sweating but didn't comment on it. "It's too warm out Doc, I'm sweating buckets. Any spare clothes on the ship?" Morti asked, the old man groaned and shook his head. "There isn't any Morti, now s-stop whining and get moving." Morticia sighed but followed after Doc who was already walking with no destination in sight. She breathed heavily, the warm air felt like it was suffocating her. "I should've brought a bottle of water," Morticia said and Doc silently offered her his flask which she declined. "That's just gonna make it worse Doc." "Well if it's gonna- gonna keep you from complaining then why not." Morticia and Doc kept on walking, the desert-like planet had a few creatures which were lizard-like with three eyes and is big as a newborn puppy. They didn't bite and aren't venomous, they mostly avoided them and are most likely to be prey. Doc sounded sure about his judgment making Morticia more confident about approaching the strange animals. "They seem to be friendly, imagine bringing one in school Doc." "Their s-small minds wouldn't even comprehend what the f-fuck it is. Might as well leave that s-shit where it belongs, we donOoOoUUGGggHH't want NASA on our ass. AGAIN." "Yeah, you're right Doc." She said before going back to walk beside him, "S- Since when have I been wrong?" It was a rhetorical question and even if Morticia was dumb enough not to notice that it was, she wouldn't have anything to answer. The sun didn't show any signs of setting and the whines that left Morticia made them rest in the shade of a rock, out of desperation she decided to just drink from Doc's flask and she was right, she coughed the burn in her throat foreign to her and the bitterness had spread around her mouth making her spit on the ground and rub her lips. "How could you stomach something like that Doc, it tastes nasty." Her face scrunched up in distaste, spitting again on the ground. "It's when you're used to d-drinking it enough that you get used to it M-Morti, it's not rocket science, now are we d-done here? Cause either you want to s-stay here for a couple more hours then b-be my guest." They kept moving, the planet seemed to be big enough since they haven't spotted the ship, there were no signs of life instead of the three-eyed-lizards who occasionally pop out of rocks and on the ground. She knows Doc wouldn't be so insistent on searching around on this planet when there isn't anything for them there so there was probably something. Doc, ever so patient with Morti, kept listening on her groan about sand getting inside her white shoes. Doc stopped walking when there was something ahead, Morti squinted her eyes and saw that a triangle made glass was floating over something that looked like a podium. Morti looked up to see Doc's reaction but saw indifference as always, his mask perfectly in place, they walked towards it. It was bigger up close, the triangle moving, spinning slowly and the rays from the sun reflected on the glass. It was almost blinding, that kept them from looking at it for too long. They approached and it wasn't a podium, but a small perfectly triangular rock with a smooth orb made of metal on top of it floating an inch from the rock. "What is it Doc?" She asked, mesmerized and confused, Doc didn't answer. There wasn't any writing on the rock or anything explaining what it was. It was just there and Doc didn't like the feeling of uncertainty in his gut, "Is it some kind of bomb, or something that keeps this planet from, like, spinning?" Doc didn't answer any of it but reached to grab the silver orb, Morti didn't breathe or move, nervous of what would happen. When Doc grabbed the orb and removed it from its original place, they waited in tense silence. A couple of minutes without something horrible happening, Morti breathed a sigh of relief. It didn't properly make her relax because she knows how their adventures go, anything bad could happen at any moment and they got to be prepared. Doc turned the orb to see a circle underneath it and grinned. "What the fuck? It's a f-fucking eight ball Morti made of fucking metal. Holy s-shit." Morticia approached to look at it a bit closer and saw that it was indeed like an eight ball. "What do we do? Shake it?" There wasn't anything appearing inside so it might also still be a trap. Doc was already shaking it before Morti could even finish her sentence. There was a small chime that came from the glass triangle. They looked up, something colorful blossomed inside. It moved like paint on clear water. Black ink started to circle it's way in the middle then plastering itself forming the English alphabet on the surface of the glass. "Woah, the universal translator you created sure do works wonders Doc." Morticia looked up, reading the first few sentences. Doc squinted, already halfway to finishing what was plastered on the glass. "You have experienced struggle on your way to where you are now, there is no turning back to the things you have already done, yet it's never too late for change. Once you follow this path is the day you will find true contentment and joy that you have long forgotten the true meaning of." Doc scoffed and Morticia was amazed. "This is interesting Doc, it's like horoscope!" She chuckled but Doc only rolled his eyes, "Don't b-believe in this kind of shit Morti, it's a s-sham. Don't be stupid and f-fall for theooOoUUghhhsse kinds of shit." Doc was about to put it back but Morti stopped him. "Oh let me try." Before Doc could protest the girl had already taken the orb and started shaking it. The same process happened although the black did not form any language but consumed the space inside it, leaving no color, white started circling in the middle to form the words. Morti's eyes widened and Doc stilled. "Do not worry about what was written in your past, fear of what will happen in your future. There will come a day where you will press your heart close to your chest and wish for the bleeding to halt and in that moment your fate is sealed. You will die." Doc pulled a small squishy ball from his lab coat and threw it upwards, it stuck to the bottom of the glass triangle and it beeped. Doc grabbed Morticia's arm and ran, the red light from the squishy ball beeped even faster until it exploded. The glass cracked and slowly started to split itself in half before breaking completely, the colors inside disappeared like it was sucked somewhere and is now empty, the planet's earth shook and the sand fell on the cracks that appeared. He pulled out his portal gun and shot them a portal, they jumped in and was now face to face with the garbage ship. They wasted no time getting inside. Morticia was still unaware that she was holding the orb Doc started the ship and they were off the ground in time before it gave in under them. Doc inserted the portal gun in a slot next to the steering wheel and pressed their dimension number. The moment the planet exploded, the ship was consumed by a large green goo. The scenery changed, now faced to faced with a familiar galaxy. "That was so close Doc." She sighed out in relief but Doc remained quiet. They were both silent for a moment, the Earth becoming more visible. Now aware that she was holding the silver orb, she examined it again. "How is it that your horoscope is vague and mine is so direct like?? It doesn't make any sense." Doc shrugged, "I told you it's a f-fucking sham." Morticia looked out of the window with a thoughtful expression, "Don't think about it too much M-Morti, it will only fry your brain, use it for soOOouuuUUgHhmething else. Now, who w-wants ice cream?" Chapter Notes See the end of the chapter for notes Doc reached for his flask in his lab coat and took a drink as Morticia went through the box of his flesh curtain days, taking a few tapes and reading the titles. She was wearing a cheap black headset connected to a small tape player he had invented a long time ago. Clearly, she was listening to the music and couldn't help the rush of something reach his chest. Maybe it was the booze he didn't care, he just liked the awed and pleased face of his Morti. She turned her head to the side, feeling his presence and she looked up, eyes connecting. Morticia smiled, taking off her headphones. "Heya Doc, how's work going?" Doc shrugged his shoulders, "It's gonna- gonna be huge Morti, just wait f-for a couple of more days." Morticia nodded before going back to rummaging inside the box, pulling out old pictures and albums. "Be careful with my s-shit Morti, they're f-fucking old, some of them m-might break with the slightest touch." He plopped on the sofa, the contents of the flask spill out a little on his clothes. Morticia opened one album where there was Squanchy, Birdperson, and Doc playing on a stage. Doc's smirk captured perfectly in the moment. The bottom one is where Doc was surrounded by groupies and a bottle of some alien liquor in hand, looking at the camera with a smug look. "Jeez Doc, it looks like you're really popular back in the day." Doc let out a huff, "I'll always be M-Morti." Morticia rolled her eyes and raised her eyebrow up at him after. "Yeah I get it Doc but not the 'wanted' kind, I mean, the famous kind. Like- Like a celebrity." She looked back at the album and flipped the page to see the band inside an alien strip club. "What the d-difference?" Morticia preferred not to answer. Birdperson was on the left while Squanchy was on the right each has a half- naked alien on their lap. The other picture was blurred but she can tell that the three were running away from some big blob wearing a suit that looked like it bursts through the door of an establishment. Doc noticed her confusion, "That was Gloob, a biUUhhHhg ugly ass motherfucker. Caught me with his t-trophy wife doing it on their b-bed once, unfortunately, he was at the same s-strip club that night." Morticia gave him an uncomfortable look, "Don't look at m-me like that, she was hot and I d-don't give a shit, doing her a fucking f-favor to be honest." She just shook her head and closed the album before taking the small tape player and ejected the previous tape out. She took it and placed it carefully next to her, trying her best not to get scolded while Doc was there staring at her. Morticia grabbed one named 'Whenever' written messily on the white part of the cassette tape. She put it on the device and pressed the red button letting out a soft click. she grabbed her headphones around her neck and putting it back on. The start was the bass and the drums, the guitar came following after then Doc started singing the lyrics. 'I've got puzzles and questions, That demands a few explanations, Of either will you ever call me, Or just leave me be.' Morticia nodded her head to Squanchy's beat, Doc watches with a raised brow, looking the girl up and down as she examined the tapes she pulled out earlier. He was keeping a close eye just so that she would be careful not to break anything, it happens a lot. 'Will I even bother to, Get to know what you're into, What are you doing to me, I don't want to leave you be.' She took a few tapes called, 'Fuck Me Silly' and 'Go Wild' that would probably be songs about sex and sat them next to 'Beautiful' and 'Who Am I Really.' 'So call me whenever, Even if I have to wait here forever, Cause I know I'm addicted, To the way you lead me on.' Nostalgia hit Doc when he saw the tape named 'Rest Easy'. The good old days where he only drank booze, had sex with whoever, and getting high but one night when he woke up hungover, something hit him other than a splitting headache. He was getting old. Who knew an existential crisis would bring him to where he was today, looking back he was glad he did or else he would be rotting in some dumpster. It's not like Doc still can't rot in a dumpster right now but it's better knowing that there's a warm free meal and a roof above your head waiting back home. 'Home.' He thought as he looked over at the girl again who was bobbing her head to the rhythm of Squanchy's beats. 'The sounds that you make, Is all that it takes, To push me off the edge, Don't let this be the end.' "Wow Doc, this is pretty good," Morticia said, putting one side of the headphones behind her ear. "No shit M-Morti." Doc took a swig of his poison, some of the liquid going down his chin. "Do you still play Doc?" The man scoffed, "From time to time MoUuuGhGhhrti, when I don't have important s-shit to do." Morticia's eyes light up and Doc knows what she's gonna ask next. "Can you-" "No Morti." He said instantly and Morti's earlier enthusiasm dampened but didn't push, deciding to forget about it, she went back to listening to her music despite her disappointment. 'When she walks in the room, She is all that I see, I know I am doomed, My friends had already warned me.' Doc didn't care whether or not Morti was interested in seeing him sing live. It's just that music express a lot of feelings that aren't shown. Doc didn't care back then because it brought in money, he may have been careless in some others he made with Birdperson and Squanchy but the crowd didn't know that and the only thing that matters is it gets what he wants. Nothing more. 'But you can call me whenever, We'll spend time together, Cause I know I'm addicted, To the way you make me feel.' If he sang, if he wrote something down and presented it to Morti she would get the wrong idea. He didn't want her to start thinking she's special, or she's an exception or preferred than the rest. She is nothing, she's just another one of his devices, one of his 'stuff' that helps him get what he wants. The little turd already got his permission to touch a few of his things, that's already too much. A cocky Morti can bring a lot of fucking trouble. The lyrics went zero to a hundred and Morticia was kind of gaping at the tape player she was holding as the guitar blared out of her headphones. She recovered and glanced at Doc who seemed to be distracted by his thoughts and decided to go back to looking at the albums. It gave her goosebumps, thankfully she was wearing her yellow sweater. Doc thought maybe he could sing something that's already written but that would just be the same as making one. She would ask questions why he picked that particular song, of course, he could just say it's randomly picked but what if she doesn't believe it? Never mind, he already said no. That's that. 'So call me whenever.' The music fades and Morticia sat there for a few more minutes before removing her headset. She shook her head slightly, turning her head towards Doc who was already staring at her, she tensed but kept silent. "What are you looking at M- Morti?" Doc grumbled out, taking another drink without breaking eye contact. Morticia's mind panicked, quickly finding an excuse. "You know it's valentines today right Doc? Wanna go somewhere?" She blurted out, Doc's face twisted in irritation before rolling his eyes. Morticia mentally high fived herself for succeeding. "These kinds of things are s-stupid Morti, people just use these events just to m-make money, it's not about what it's about. Flowers you can pick on the s- sidewalk now cost a hundred dollars, restaurants, hotel rooms, chocolates etc, Christmas, Halloween, it's the s-same stupid shit, don't be stupid M-Morti." Morticia had stopped listening to Doc's rant since she had heard it already she just went on putting the tapes and albums back inside the box before putting it under the coffee table to be later put in Doc's room. "Mom said she'll be making a heart shaped cake Doc, I'm sure you're not gonna pass that up and I wanna piece." Morti sat next to the old man and grabbed the remote to turn the tv on, Ball Fondlers might be showing. "Yeah, w-whatever your mother makes is great." He said before putting his feet up on top of the coffee table, his joints popped and he let out a groan. "And it's not like she w-won't force me to join anyway." Ball Fondlers isn't on at all instead it was some kind of valentines day special with lots of crappy jokes that made Doc grab the remote from her hands to change the channel. Jerry opened the door of his car while waiting for Beth who has her arms crossed, staring pointedly at Doc and Morti. "Okay we're leaving for the Titanic cruise, dad I'm leaving you in charge." Jerry who was behind Beth mumbled, "A bad decision really." Doc squinted staring straight at Jerry, the edges of his mouth went downwards but chose to say nothing much to Morti's relief. Beth ignored Jerry's comment, "Not one damage to this house, if anything happens to this place I am going to ban you from going on adventures with Morti forever, got that dad? Not. One." "Oh jeez, come on mom," Morticia whined before Beth gave her the look, she avoided her gaze before biting her lip to keep herself from saying anything else. Doc pulled out his silver flask and took a sip. "I don't really get why you agreed t-to go to that lame cruise Beth, itUUugGgHHHh's not even good." She pinched the bridge of her nose, "It's Jerry who thought of it, what did you expect." Jerry gasped, surprised at his wife's distaste for his plans. "We didn't spend Valentines Day together I'd say it's a good opportunity to catch up on the things we missed." He glanced at Beth with bedroom eyes that made Morti visibly gag. "Gross...." Doc rolled his eyes giving his son in law an indifferent expression. "The only thing you're d-doing is spending money you don't even own Jerry." That being said both Jerry and Morti shied away at his blunt comment, the girl put her hands in her pockets keeping her head low and gaze on the ground while Jerry's face got red from embarrassment mixed with resentment. "Come on Beth, it's supposed to be romantic." He whined out instead, a pitiful frown becoming more apparent in his features. Beth turned around towards the car, opening the passenger door ignoring her husband's plea. "Not one damage." She stressed before getting inside. Jerry went inside after her with his pride in pieces, giving Morti not even a glance or a goodbye. Once inside he started the engine, reversed, then drove off down the road. There wasn't even a second when something got out of the garage door that melted the middle of it before it fell, fortunately missing them both in the process. "No turning back now M-Morti, let's get riggity riggity wrecked!!" "Wait, Doc, we can't!" Gasped out Morti, afraid of her mother's earlier warning, if they do get caught their adventures will be all over and she couldn't risk it. "It's just g-going to be a house party Morti, rellaaaxxxxx." He rolled his eyes for the second time before going back inside the house leaving Morti out alone. Realizing that no matter what she says he wouldn't listen, she sighed, "Oh jeez." ~*~ People started pouring in and Morti was already holding a red cup with clear purple liquid in it that she took from a large red container Doc placed in the living room. She didn't know what it was and had no intentions of drinking it now since she wanted to be sober despite what Doc told her, it was just for show just to fit in and so that someone won't force one in her hand and peer pressure her into getting drunk. It was getting loud as humans and other creatures alike appear in the front door, she went passed two Ricks that looked nothing like Doc hair-wise when she was entering the kitchen to grab a snack. One of them smirked at her and the other one gave her an interested side glance before entering the living room. Morticia's eyes lingered on one of them for just a second before going back to mindlessly walking around. Nobody was talking to her and she would rather not spend her minutes listening to Gear Wars despite someone trying to make it sound as interesting as they thought it is. The house was getting trashed and Morticia tried to not have a heart attack in the middle of it, there was a lot going on and she couldn't keep track of it. Truth be told she was never fond of such a huge and loud crowd, she often just spend time by herself and if not by herself then with Doc. It was sad when she thinks about it but at least she had gotten a few friends out of her family bubble to talk to despite not seeing them outside of school that much. Speaking of Doc... Morticia saw him let inside someone, he was human like with wings, she went over to greet her grandfather's old friend that also became her's in time. "Birdperson! S-So glad to see you again man!" She heard him say before giving him a hug, Morti stood close behind Doc smiling up at the wise man-bird, raising her cup slightly in silent greeting. "I am pleased to see you as well after a long time Rick." They both parted, Doc now noticed Morti was there, holding her drink that went down to room temperature. "What's up Birdperson?" Morticia also gave him a hug that Birdperson returned in earnest. "Nothing much, I hope you don't mind me having a few drinks." She pulled away and smiled up at him, "Nah, go w-wild." Doc said behind her before drinking his choice of poison. When Birdperson left, Doc put an arm around her shoulder leaning in close to her face to speak to her, she could smell his alcohol breath already and she resisted on pinching her nose to block it. "That's the s-spirit Morti! Go w-welcome some people, let loose, you're s- seventeen, you're only seventeen once M-Morti! We're gonna get s-smashed!!" Doc gave her a hard slap on the back before running to join a few people enthusiastically chanting 'chug chug chug' on a big corner where a translucent alien drank a whole red container of liquor making himself expand. "Ohh boy. This isn't good." Morticia frowned, looking down at her drink as it sloshed inside when she moved the cup in a slow circular motion. She was getting angry, she could feel it. It's simmering already and was ready to boil if someone dares turn the heat up. "MORTICIA!!" A loud voice yelled across the room and she looked up to see that it was Squanchy holding a bottle of wine, probably from her mom's stash, walking towards her with open arms. It's been a while since she saw him as well and she was glad to see him again. Morti gave him a welcoming smile, her earlier anger forgotten momentarily. "Squanchy!" Morti crouched down to give him a hug, a few of his messy fur got stuck on her clothes. "How've you been? Did Doc see you yet?" The cat-like person nodded his head, "Yes to both, say, do I have a place to squanch around here?" He slurred out half-way drunk already. There was this unspoken thing that happened between them once that always made Squanchy playful, the creature has a knack for teasing and embarrassing her and he uses this to his advantage. He knows that his culture gave her the blushes and it makes him grin mischievously. The girl laughed uncomfortably but gave him an answer Doc would probably give him, "You can squanch wherever you want Squanchy, mi casa es su casa." Squanchy gave her that infamous grin, "You've grown since I've last squanched with you. Has it been that long?" Morticia's cheeks went pink, scratching the back of her head with her free hand. "A couple of months is a pretty long time so yeah. Have you tried the drink?" She gestured towards the wine bottle which reminded her of Beth's warning, her worry and anger returned but hid away perfectly from her furry friend's view. "No, I haven't, how about you? Tried it yet?" Morticia shook her head before looking down at the anonymous liquid, "You should, I heard that it came from a cow from a pretty sweet planet." A moment of curiosity and awkwardness, she took a sip then when Squanchy looked at her expectantly, she forced herself to drink a big gulp. The drink wasn't so bitter but its consistency was weird, it's slippery inside her mouth like the insides of an okra, maybe it was best drinking it cold. "I heard it's also used as a lubricant." After Squanchy's statement Morticia started to gag, the furry creature laughed so loud that a few people looked their way. "I can't believe- oh my god- you actually fell for that." He wheezed, holding his stomach and pointing at her from where he stood. "Oh come on..." Morticia rubbed her mouth, the drink that had stained the side of her lips was wiped away by the back of her hand. What did she expect from one of Doc's crazy friends? "Dick move Squanchy, dick move." She said between chuckles. "You squanch it like you hate it. Though between you and me, I did try it once, it's a good substitute." Morti thought it was better to change the topic now because if she didn't this wouldn't stop, especially when Squanchy's already becoming drunk. "OKAY! Nice talking to you again Squanchy, I have to go and refill my... drink." "Suuurrreeeee, It's nice squanching with you too kid. Gotta go squanch somewhere private. See ya later!" Trying her best not to visibly cringe, Morti gave him a forced smile before raising her half-empty cup at his retreating figure. ~*~ Walking around aimlessly again, she had spotted a cute redhead wearing a simple purple party dress. Morti chuckled before calling the attention of her high school friend. "Hey Jessy, I didn't know you'd be here." Morticia approached the teen with a smile. "Of course I'd be here, this party's pretty fucking hot right now, shame on you for not calling me and the girls." Morti only scratched the back of her head, "It was just supposed to be a small party but it got...." She trailed off when someone threw a large empty bottle at the window, breaking it in the process, an alien was dangling from the ceiling, and someone broke the ugly red vase her dad bought, a guy was running around naked at this point and Jessica gave her a look of understanding and pity. "Anyways... how did you..??" "Tammy tweeted it, said the party was pretty sick." She answered her unspoken question, "And she was posting some of this." Jessica tapped at her phone before handing it out to Morti. She saw Tammy recording her and Birdperson making out in the kitchen, there was no audio but the video was on a loop. Morti couldn't believe what she was seeing, she looked at Jessica mouth agape and eyes wide. "Tammy's started to get real wild after her parents didn't let her go to college. Fucking sucks being one of her peers who couldn't go, you know?" Morti handed the phone back, sighing, pushing the consequences and the scene she just saw at the back of her mind. "Yeah, I know what you mean and I didn't know Birdperson was interes-... never mind. Glad to have you here." Jessica crossed her arms, expression turning sour and Morti braced herself for her friend's upcoming rant. "Anything just to get away from Brad, ugh! He's such a fucking jerk, after all these years he still hasn't changed. I'm starting to think that he doesn't really love me anymore. It sucks Morti." "I told you to break it off but you were persistent." It felt like a moment for Morti to take a sip from her red cup. Despite Squanchi's earlier comment, she started liking it a little. She felt immediately guilty when she saw Jessy's posture slackened, looking completely defeated. "I thought he's gonna change, he promised," Jessica whispered, crossing her arms before looking down. "And how many times did he 'promised' to change?" Morti asked in a softer voice this time. "...Too many times to even count. Ugh sorry for ranting, I didn't want to kill the mood." The girl groaned, smoothening her dress but Morti waved it off. "It's fine Jessy, as long as you don't bottle all that up, you don't deserve the stress." "Thanks, Morti, you're a good friend but right now I want to get wasted. Where's the booze at?" "Just look around and you'll find one, trust me." With a wave, Jessica went on her way to search for alcohol. Feeling physically and emotionally drained she decided to find a quiet place for herself to recharge. ~*~ Morti found a spot, it was the corner of the room next to a houseplant but it was occupied by only one person. It was one of the Ricks that she saw earlier, he was nursing a red cup in his hand like her and couldn't help but smile. Perhaps he was the same as her, finding the party a bit too exhausting for his taste. Curiosity overcame her tiredness and she decided to bother the different looking Rick, "Hey." She gave him an awkward wave and the Rick's attention was now on her. His dark blue eyes scanned her face before taking a sip from his cup. "Hello." It was brief but she knew her Rick well enough to read this one, he was curious too. "I like your hair." Morti gestured at his ridiculous haircut. She didn't know what the hairstyle was called but it looks like a cinnamon bun and the thought made her a little bit hungry. "Thank you." Another short response. This Rick is making this conversation a bit awkward but it didn't stop Morti from opening her mouth. "Which dimension are you from? Do all people dress like you?" It was an innocent question, a conversation starter, what she really needs right now because this Rick looks like he doesn't know how to carry a conversation. Why was talking to people so hard? "So your Rick hasn't told you yet?" This Rick's voice was deeper with a hint of pretentiousness that got Morty wondering who he was in his dimension. Someone high class then? Someone rich? Someone with status? Honestly, TV teaches her so many things that one thing leads to another and most of them aren't even correct. "Tell me what?" "Interesting," Rick said without answering her question, rubbing his chin with his free hand. "I'm from Citadel of Ricks, home for every Rick in the multiverse. They all call me Zeta Alpha. A pleasure." He held out his hand and Morti thought he was asking for a shake but got surprised when he bent down to kiss the back of her hand. "Oh... Morticia Smith, nice to meet you too.... dude." Bewildered, she trailed off and Zeta Alpha gave her a look of amusement, the side of his lips turning upwards briefly for a short moment of fondness. He stood up straight again mindful about the cup in his hand. "So... why does your hair look like a cinnamon bun? Is it customary to have weird looking hair or is it just your style?" Zeta Alpha looked offended but didn't comment, Morti kicked herself mentally. It was going well for a couple of seconds and now she ruined it, like half of the time she's been in this universe. "You think that my hair looks like a piece of.... bread?" Another thing that Morti noticed is that this Rick didn't stutter. She can't tell if he was being mindful of it or if he just doesn't have one. "I think you should leave." His eyes shifted up before his face turned serious all of a sudden and Morti was sputtering out apologies. "I'm sorry- I didn't mean to offend- I just- I was just-" "No no, that isn't it, despite me being shocked by your bold comment I believe that this conversation has reached its end." Zeta Alpha reassured her, "Now if you know what's good for you, leave my presence immediately." The sudden shift of him reassuring her to threatening her to leave overwhelmed her she couldn't utter a word. "Well, what do we have here?" A sly drawl at the end of the person's sentence made Morti sidestep to get a clear view of who spoke. It was the other Rick, he was smirking at her like he did earlier and the way he stared made her feel like he could see right through her. Something in Morti's gut told her that this Rick was dangerous and best be avoided. But Morti has many problems that she really needs fixing and there is always one she can't seem to get rid of. One of them is being distracted by little things. For example; this Ricks hair which, to her, is really fucking ridiculous. "A Morticia? Such a rare occasion, we don't usually see much of your kind in Citadel." Something about the way he said those words disturbed Morti that her earlier thought dissolved replacing it with something close to interest. "My kind?" She asked and she glanced at Zeta Alpha who was wearing a straight face but his eyes darted to the both of them before settling on his drink. "Yes." The other Rick said smiling, his teeth showing, the 's' sounded like a snake hissed it out instead of an old man. "Morticias are well taken care of because adorable young girls need to learn to grow up to be big and bright someday. Isn't that right Zeta Alpha?" It was hard to tell if this Rick was joking or not, or if he was just really odd. Morti despite the situation being strange felt surprised yet she didn't let it show, she never heard Doc say anything like that especially in that tone. "Yes, indeed it is Riq IV." Zeta Alpha answers after a quick pause, "No Rick is expected to receive anything less than satisfactory." It sounded well thought out like it was tattooed in his brain. Morticia tried to read the situation but she gradually get's even more confused, one answer leads to another question and some of them she refused to acknowledge. "It is nice meeting you Morticia Smith of dimension K-203 but it seems that we have to leave. We hope to see you again soon and please," Riq IV glanced at Zeta Alpha "Tell your Rick thank you for the invite." He told her with a smirk before turning around, his hands clasped behind his back. Zeta Alpha gave Morticia a short glance and a nod before following Riq IV. Morti just stood there staring at the two Ricks disappear inside the familiar green portal and couldn't help but replay Riq's words. 'What was that about?' She thought before going back to roaming around the place, small aliens went passed her, spinning bras and panties in their hands. It probably belonged to Beth because she knows it isn't her's. Reality sets back in, she was now aware again of the burden she needs to carry on her shoulders. Morti sighed for the millionth time. ~*~ The sounds of commotion in the living room caught Morti's attention, she had been so bored that she talked to Gear Head. Jessica was nowhere to be seen and she would rather not approach Tammy when she's all over Birdperson. Doc was too busy getting shit faced to pay any attention to anything really unless it was horny strangers and booze. Morticia excused herself before walking towards the loud harsh sounds coming from the living room. She squeezed between the bodies before getting a full view of Brad beating the shit out of Abradolf Lincler, finally, she saw Jessica yelling at her boyfriend before covering her face and walking away. Morticia gave a sympathetic look at her retreating form. Doc appeared beside her with a bottle of whiskey, "MaooOOouughHn Jessica got a real s-shit boyfriend, good thing you aren't into that kind of crap right M- Morti?" With a chuckle, he nudged her side before drinking. "Yeah... right." She looked up at Doc with a bewildered look, "I should check up on her. See you later Doc, keep having fun." Morti then smiled at him but he didn't say anything, only stared blankly at what's in front of him before walking away. Morticia let her eyes linger on Doc for a bit before going back to staring where Jessica stood. Another thing was that Doc had been acting strange lately, she just couldn't put her finger on it. The fight didn't last long since Brad got pulled away by his friends and Abradolf Lincler fled the scene, hopefully, someone would offer him an ice bag. She was beginning to think this party was planned just to give her a big headache and she was certainly becoming more livid as the party goes on. Morticia went in the garage where she saw Jessica enter, Morti would scold her for that later but right now she'll lend her an ear. The poor girl looked too stressed to even have fun and that got Morti asking who let Brad in. "Hey Jessy, how are you doing?" Morti cautiously closed the door behind her, she saw Jessica glaring at the pavement, eyes puffy, her lipstick smudged and her hair looked like a birds nest. "What does it look like?" Jessica snapped at her and Morti raised her hands quickly. The contents of the cup she had been holding for hours now spilled on the ground. "Hey alright, okay." She gently said and Jessica's furrowed brow relaxed, eyes went back to looking at the ground. She rubbed her arm before hugging herself. "I'm sorry Morti, I know I've been nothing but trouble lately. Brad, the band, my whole life in general." Jessica started to sniff and Morti lowered her hands, eyes softening. "Hey hey, I told you didn't I? It's fine, it's no problem. I got your back." Jessy let out a breathy chuckle but her eyes started welling up and her lips started quivering. "I don't know anymore!" She burst into tears and Morticia was quick to put an arm around her shoulder, steadying her when Jessica's knees gave out under her. Her cup fell on the ground and what's little of its content spilled on the garage floor. She gripped Morti's yellow long sleeve shirt, "My dad's having an affair, my boyfriend is an aggressive asshole who tries too hard to fit in, the songs we chose got rejected by the school board, and-" Jessica cried, and Morti slowly let her down. Both of them now sitting on the ground while she rubbed soothing circles on her friends back. "And- And- I try so hard every day to be perfect Morti. I'm just so tired of everything." With a choked sob she let her tears trail down her cheeks, Morti wiped them away with a thumb. "It's okay Jessy, I'm here." She doesn't know what to do or say to make her feel better so she decided to sit next to Jessica as she let out all her frustrations. It took a while but Jessica calmed down and Morti was relieved but still didn't say a word. "I am such a mess, oh my god." The teen sighed out as she sniffed, wiping away the snot using her arm. Something you wouldn't see her do and it made Morti smile. "A beautiful mess." Morti winked and Jessica slapped her arm lightly. "Shut up." She chuckled out, voice hoarse. "I'm not, look at me. I'm all gross." "Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder Jessy ever heard of that?" The popular teen rolled her eyes, "Listen, I don't give a shit right now if I'm pretty or not, I just wanna go home, get in my pj's and just eat whatever the hell I want since no one's home and it's the weekend." Morticia stood up, helping Jessica by pulling her up gently until she didn't wobble anymore. "I hear you. This place is getting a bit too crowded and I'd rather lay in bed, maybe take a nap. If this party goes on any longer I might just snap." Morti groaned out, rubbing the bridge her nose before sighing in defeat. How many hours had passed? Is the sun still up? The commotion inside the house had distracted her and not in a fun way. "Who knows? Mom could be home at any moment, if they see the state of the house I'll never hear the end of it." There were loud crashing sounds and cheering just outside the door and it's making Morty's eye twitch. Her blood was already set to boiling point. "Guess you have your own set of problems to deal with too huh?" Jessica joked, trying to lighten the mood despite her earlier breakdown. "I'm not surprised why your dad insisted on living separately with your grandpa." "Everybody knows it's for the best and it's not like I don't agree either." Morticia placed both hands on either side of her hips, looking down at the grey pavement. "I'm just glad we don't have to move all of his old junk since his first year here. Look at all this weird looking gadgets, what are the odds of some of these detonate and kill us all." Already used to Jessica ignoring her dark sense of humor Morticia grabbed the nearest metal object she could grab and Jessy leaned in to look at it. It was a black cube with glowing blue and white stripes along the surface, it has a circular object in it's middle and Morti pressed it with no hint of hesitation. The Milky Way appeared and both teens eyes lit up in wonder and awe at the bright image. It was moving and it looked alive, Jessica reached out to touch Jupiter only for her fingers to go through it. They were both so captured at the moment that they didn't see Squanchy come out of the metal closet, awkwardly staring at them and a bit uncomfortable with a rope around his neck. "I was squanching and felt too sad to finish-" He began and it startled both girls. Jessica jumped at the sound of an unfamiliar voice, turning her head to look at Squanchy and taking a step back which bumped into Morti who had the cube. It was hard to focus since the Milky Way was in the way and Morticia's perception was fucked up at this point since the light coming from the cube was basically in front of her face. It also didn't help that she was quite tipsy. The drink she had earlier had been quite strong even if it wasn't as bitter as she thought it would be, this resulted in her tripping over her own feet, letting go of the cube and landing on the ground that got stained by her own spilled liquor. The cube flew and hit the nearby wall then landing next to Doc's old work table. "What the heck Squanchy?! You almost killed us!" Morticia yelled and Jessica has a hand on her chest, eyes wide and breathing in and out. "What are you even doi- You know what, nevermind, forget I asked." With a huff Morticia stood up again, feeling the dampness on her butt. "Oh great." She felt the headache earlier ten times stronger now. "I didn't mean to scare you two, you guys seemed to be having a moment and it was rude to interrupt." The furry creature put a hand on one of Doc's old miniaturized vanishing ray and leaned into it. "Whew! Glad that's over huh?" "Squanchy I don't think you should-" "That thing might not be stable-" The teen's sentences were cut short when it did fell. The three stared, too shocked before it hit the ground sending waves around the room and enveloping the house entirely, zapping the house in another place. "Holy shit," Morticia said in breathless panic before running out of the garage and crashing into the sea of bodies in the living room looking for Doc she didn't wait for Jessica or Squanchy. She pushed with all her strength until she reached the other end of the room. Morti tried to suck in a breath since the heat was too much and the smell of alcohol and something horrible was driving her sensitive nose away from some fresh air. "Doc!" She called over the loud booming sound of music that was playing. Couldn't take a moment longer inside the cramped space, she opened the glass door that was supposed to lead her to their backyard but she was only greeted by the sight of hideous alien creatures and a land of yellow and red colored rocks and mountains. Morticia looked around for a moment before someone grabbed her shoulder. Her survival instinct kicked in and her body automatically grabbed the person's wrist with her right hand, the stranger, however, was quick on kneeing the back of her knee, forcibly making her kneel. The accuracy of her attack dropped and it made her groan. Morti already knows who it is with the familiar voice laced with mockery. "Really M-Morti? That's alOooOuUUuugggghHHhl you could d-do after all these years? Maybe I'll be s-stricter and hard on you next time since you're getting tooOUuUUgho familiar and rusty." Doc jeered. Morticia who was not in the mood for his games, she pushed his wrist away before standing up and dusting herself off. The unfamiliar stain on her long sleeve didn't go unnoticed and her face scrunched up in disgust. "Not now Doc, can't you see we're in a very dangerous situation?" She would have bickered with him playfully like she always does but since there were other lives on the line, more importantly, Tammy and Jessica's life along with his two closest friends, she couldn't afford to dilly dally. It didn't help that the anger she suppressed halfway through this party added to the problem at hand and Doc's aloofness just fed the fire within her. Morti's lips thinned, eyes dead set on staring at Doc but his reaction just made her clench her jaw. He rolled his eyes before taking a drink from a new alien-like bottle, "Why are you so s-serious Morti? Fucking relax, we could g- get out of here in no time. This party's too f-fucking lit for this kind of lame s-shit to stop it." Morticia had enough of relaxing, she wasn't relaxed at all, she hadn't relaxed since this morning when he said he'll be throwing a party! She was stressed, livid, and tired, she's going to end this right now. "No Doc, this is important! We shouldn't- We can't just let the house be on a foreign planet! Not only that, what if mom and dad got home early and found the whole thing gone?! Stop being so light about this!" Morti yelled and Doc's earlier demeanor was gone out the window, replaced by a stony expression and a set of cold blue eyes gazing down at her making her feel small. "W-Watch your tone." He told her and Morti shrank back, her instincts screamed at her to lower her head and gaze at the ground in silence. Doc closed the glass door behind them, the party going on inside muffled and Morti could hear the groans and the yelps of the aliens more clearly without the loud music. "Don't forget your m-manners Morti, just cause we'oOOooUuggGhhHtTre out here d- doesn't mean I won't pull you up the stairs and t-teach you a lesson." Morti gulped and her palms began to sweat. Doc stared her down before taking a swig of the alien liquor. It was silent and she felt like it went on forever until Doc sighed, almost like he was the one tired from all this. Knowing that she wasn't in trouble, she relaxed a little bit. "We have to- we need to get out of here Doc." She said, more calmly this time. Doc groaned and pinched the bridge of his nose. "G-Get some of these crystals called KLax, that w-would help." "Those are drugs Doc, you want me to get drugs." Morti deadpanned. "Yeah, I know. It would help me in a better mood. ThaOoooOOuuGhHttt's what I meant Morti." He looked at the bottle of liquor in his hand, "Gonna- Gonna get more s-shit like this..." "I can't believe this." Morti gently sighed out, crossing her arms and turned herself away from him and was now facing the foreign planet. The hideous aliens were a piece of cake to face than her grandfather right now anyways. "What's not to believe M-Morti?" Doc's tone was cynical and Morticia went quiet again, expression neutral but completely exploding with exasperation inside. It was overwhelming that she could feel tears starting to build. Morti suppressed them, blinking enough times to will it away and it did. "I'm a f-fucked up old man who doesn't give a shit and neither s-should you Morti, cause in this life nothing m-matters. Not you, not me, not anyone in this goddamn p-place. All of us are gonna- gonna die at some point, M-Morty. Might as well enjoy it w-while it lasts." "Maybe it doesn't, maybe we're just fiction made by a traumatized overly imaginative asshole who doesn't have a social life," Morti started, choosing her words carefully as not to anger him again. She doesn't want another warning. "But I want to go on adventures. I want to go to space, to learn, and spend time with you." She looked up at him with pleading eyes, "You know mom can ban us from doing that again, right?" They both quietly stared each other down, the song that was playing was now just background music as Morti waited. "W-Whatever Morti, I'm gonna- gonna grab more w-whiskey." Doc opened the glass door and closed it behind him and Morticia was so done with him. She wanted to yell, to scream, to hit something, to let all her fury out in the open. So in her blind anger, she decided to get the KLax he wanted. By beating a bunch of two-headed tiger-like aliens so at least they'll both get what they want. ~*~ "AAAAAAAHHHHHHH!!!" Morticia screamed her battle cry and swung at the alien. It gave a cry of its own, snarling and growling at the threat while dodging the impending attack. Its claws were sharp and it was bigger than Morti but it didn't intimidate her. She was experienced enough in this field since she started training early and encountered bigger, badder, nastier aliens than this. It only reminded her of Doc which threw more logs into the fire, nobody faces Morti angry and survive. It's not how it works. "YOU THINK-" She yelled and swung the large metal bat that she grabbed blindly in Doc's old garage, hitting the alien tiger's paw when it was raised to claw her. It yelped in pain then growled. "YOU CAN JUST-" The animal yelped when it decided to run behind her, but the pressure on the paw hurts too much it slowed down giving a perfect opportunity for Morti to hit one of its faces. "TELL ME TO GET MY SHIT TOGETHER-" She repeated the action, hitting the other face with the bat. "WHEN YOU CAN'T EVEN SORT YOUR OWN SHIT-" It successfully clawed at Morti's thigh, it wasn't deep but it broke her jeans and the skin enough to draw blood, it barely phased her. She just kept on swinging. "WHATEVER MORTI, I'M GONNA GRAB MORE WHISKEY!!" Morti mocked her grandfather's voice bashing the alien tiger's heads down repeatedly. It cried out in pain and the crunching of bone gave Morti a sick sense of satisfaction. "SHOVE IT DOWN YOUR THROAT YOU OLD BLUE HAIRED GREY SKINNED ALCOHOLIC SOCIOPATH!!" She screamed at the top of her lungs, the alien's blood on her clothes and face. Morti kept on bringing the bat down and hitting the lifeless corpse until she grew tired, all her emotions drained out of her like spilled milk. She breathed heavily, her arms at her sides while she barely grips the bat. The girl stared blankly at the beaten and unrecognizable beast in front of her before letting go of her bloody weapon, she turned away from the alien to grab enough crystals for Doc to shove up his ass. Morti took her yellow long sleeve off and used that as a way to easily carry it. She didn't care if the blood of the tiger stained the KLax crystals if she ruined them then tough luck. Morti got back to the house and the party was still up and running, she couldn't wrap her head around how these people have the energy to do this all day and never get tired. She opened the front door with so much force that the door slammed into the wall, people turned their heads to see Morti without her top off and some of their stares lingered. Morti's breast aren't big but they're perky, she was wearing a black sports bra, convenient and comfortable in every adventure like this one, enjoyable or not. Now with a clear head and sore body she just wanted to get out of this planet, clean up the mess Doc made and call it a day. She sauntered room to room to look for Doc and she found him with a green alien on his lap and a beer in his hand laughing and exchanging stories with a bunch of people. Tammy and Birdperson were listening, the birdman sitting on the couch while Tammy sat in the armchair next to him. Morti breathed in and out, despite her anger this was Doc, he won't tolerate any disrespect, especially in front of the others. No matter how much she wants to beat his ass till next Sunday she has enough dignity and decency to put up a facade in order to get through. Punishment be damned, her pride and fury won't let her back down easily like earlier. Doc might have groomed her over the years under his tutelage, taught her what she didn't know before and showed her the things she thought she would only see on TV, but if he wants to get whatever the heck he wants from her then he better fight for it cause Morti doesn't give away things like loyalty and service so easily. There was a part of her buried deep in the recesses of her mind, the arrogant part which she clings to for sanity's sake that, despite it not being spoken out loud, she was important to him somehow and it was enough to straighten her spine, square her shoulders, and stroll her way towards him with her head held up high. Before they could all notice her coming, Morti drew their attention towards her when she threw the KLax on the table unceremoniously. The blood of the tiger on her had long since dried but the blood leaking out of the open wound on her left leg didn't, she has always been stubborn. Proving something to someone was a priority even if it is quite pointless or small. Something she might have gotten on her mother's side. The price? The reaction, the response, and the gleam of pride and satisfaction in the eyes of a cold-blooded man who has his sky blue eyes set on her hazel ones. "Good joooOOOoUUgHHhHHooobb Moooortttiiiii! Alright!!" 'This is not over.' She said to herself while she looked at Doc who greedily chopped up the crystals to easily snort. Tammy had gotten up and asked if she needs help with her wounds and Birdperson insisted on helping as well. Morti only nodded, expression cool and collected, the calm before the storm. The three looked for Jessica and found that she and Squanchy found a place to quietly drink and talk which was in the garage where she left them earlier, They already had a couple of bottles. The two hurriedly stood up from the floor and helped Morti out by fetching her some new clothes and first aid kit. "We were so worried, what the heck Morti. You grabbed the bat and looked ready to kill something." Jessy started cleaning the wound while Tammy stood next to her, inspecting the wound. Birdperson flew up to where her room is to get her some clothes since the stairs were blocked by those little aliens Doc called 'glip glops' earlier. "Looks like she did," Tammy said, impressed. "Why though?" They both waited for an answer and she gave them something simple. "Doc wanted KLax." She wasn't like Jessica who pours her heart out to her friends to lighten the load or Tammy who broadcast about her unfair life. Morti was closed, a person made of marble when needed, smooth and hard to read and she prefers it that way. "Rick has KLax?! Sorry girls gotta dash, it's been a while since I had one of those!" Squanchy ran out of the room and Jessica just gave her a confused look. "It's a drug." Jessica 'Oh'ed before going back to bandaging the wound. She patched her up nicely and Birdperson came back with a new set of clean clothes, the three left to give her some privacy to change. Now that she was alone with her thoughts again, she seethed. 'Oh, this is definitely not over.'
