This book would not exist without the keen eye, wise counsel, and
boundless energy of Al, Editor of R & D. Al is devoted to the
proposition, one largely forgotten since Frank Harris and Henry Miller put
down their pens, that adult fiction need not inevitably suffer from
semi-literate and ungrammatical writing, clumsy and improbable plotting,
and an awkward and ponderous style.
That's not to say that Richard O Steele now stands
shoulder to shoulder with Messrs Harris and Miller; it's just that Al
knows how to point a guy in the right direction.
In short, Al is the artistic midwife whose
exacting and uncompromising standards inform every single page of Thy
Neighbor's Wife (and Other Sins). It follows that an expression of
deep appreciation is due not only from me — thanks, Al! — but from my
readers as well.
