Rebuttal to Uggh This is a problem, but one that can't really be fixed, given the way I'd rather write. Perhaps we should ask Mr. HHH to extend the recent list to 20 or 25 stories. All at once or bit by bit is an interesting problem that I've been puzzling over for a while. The intent is not to squeeze stories off the list. The release format was chosen after some TOB and MC forum discussions on how to deliver a long story. The Web Mistress of Dot HL was posted as it was written, more or less monthly. That lead to a number of problems, the greatest among them being the tendency to write my way into corners. Ed was more or less written and then serialized in one, then half, week increments. Anyone with early editions of Ed can tell you that the end is very different in form, if not in content. I used that serialization time to tinker and fix. Three days seemed to work for Ed, so I used it again here. While the story is written, it's still a bit rough and definitely not up to the quality I prefer to post. I write the whole story out to make certain that I haven't written myself into any corners and then I polish. One of the best ways to do that is through feedback given here and elsewhere. Chase called for more details. Hopefully I've been providing them. Plot holes are being filled, corrections are being made, and the story isn't just sitting on the hard disk collecting dust. Haley and most of chapter 4 owes their existence to those three days between its release and chapter 3. When posting a 70000 word story all at once, the last thing I want is for potential readers to go, "Holy shit! This thing's 150 pages!" and walk off looking for something less "challenging." I actually received comments on book one of Rumour Mill that said it was too big for one reading and that I should have serialized it. To me that means just read it in little chunks, but hey, different strokes for different folks. On Ed, I received (and acquiesced to) requests for the whole story in one lump, again, different strokes. The thing is, most people I've been hearing from want lots of smaller bites. Cheviot may be able to shed some light on this, since he also tends to write large. I would much rather the chapter link together as one story, but that it is a technical limitation of this site. If I am to serialize, each entry must be submitted as a story. This causes problems-such as in the last chapters of Ed and chapter 2 of Vice Versa-where there are absolutely no growing boobs. This problem can be solved, but only at the cost of a lot of work for Mr. HHH. Lengthening the recent stories should be easy, but expanding the storage into stories would likely require a serious redesign of how they are stored and presented.
