A little bit about the setting: This is a for-want-of-a-nail story where the Roman Empire won the Battle of Adrianople and thus never collapsed. A technological singularity of sorts occurred in the vein of Morrowind's alchemy system, allowing humanity to hack the words of creation and obtain the power of magic. Fast-forward a thousand years and you have things like the steam engine, typewriters, and genetically modified monstrosities as weapons of war, yet no gunpowder because the Silk Road was never established (and fireballs negated the incentive for cannon). The aesthetics and themes of the setting are essentially the Roaring 20's dieselpunk where the Roman Empire meets 1950's Pax Americana meets Nazi Germany mostly set on the island of Britannia, all under the the authority of an immortal paladin spreading goodness by the sword. Main Characters: Draidon Crayle - the usually stoic POV character who tells the story. He is a rage mage plagued by demons. Tramen Orm - a cleric who delves into insanity as the story progresses due to a mysterious revelation. He is the protagonist of the second half of the story. Ryken Vei - Tramen's half-brother and emergent rival. He is a monk with unusual powers and is the protagonist of the first half of the story. Richard "Ricky" Blackcloud - a ne'er-do-well along for the ride whose name had to be changed because he was named after a fucking video game character. NPCs: Alexis Signium - elf sorceror who owns a small magic shop and is dumb as a brick. Elves in this setting are descended from genetically modified humans who were effectively min-maxing in-universe. She is featured in a collaborative /wst/ comic with Cios. Degen Voslet - a paladin with similar powers to Ryken, and acts as his rival-turned-love-interest. Her design and role was merged with another character (Marie) from the original campaign. Gertrude & Gracia Lainden - twin sisters with opposite personalities and innate talents for ice and enchantment magic respectively. Gracia becomes Tramen's love interest. Gertrude's life is a waking nightmare. Gertrude is the protagonist of the /wst/ comic "Sex 101." Gloria Sable - head of the empire's R&D division tasked with building a notrobot army of sentient earth elementals made of quicksilver. She is a geomancer. Gloria features prominently as a professor in "Sex 101." Jillian Lei - a prostitute and assassin whose character design was recycled for Gloria. She monitors the party for shadowy factions. Meecha Greenfoot - a nothobbit and journeyman mechanic from a small village who later becomes a druid despite her low wisdom score. She is the protagonist of the /wst/ comic "A Halfling's Holiday." Quarryl d'Vos - a dark elf cleric from the mainland whose interests often coincide with the party. She becomes Draidon's love interest. She is the progonist of the /wst/ comic "Along came a spider." Victoria d'Blare - a paladin whose goal is to make everyone happy, often via lots of fucking. She only appears as a background character in the story proper. Ravanna - an ancient, sentient sword that can take the shape of a woman. She is wielded by Draidon. Yvonne Dolshev - a compatriot of Jillian who contracts the party for more dubious missions. She becomes Ricky's love interest.
