A Storm at Samos (MF,rom,hist)
This is the second of three episodes in the life of Cadfael ap Meilyr, latterly Brother Cadfael.
Vinland (mf,first,rom,hist)
This look at the northmen's early visit to North America is my entry in the 2004 Spring History Festival.
1/125th at f11 (MF, nosex, flash)
I was rummaging about, and found this oldish photo. And....
A Fall in Antioch (MF, rom, hist)
This story was written for inestimable editor and wise counsel, Denny Wheeler. Denny and I are both fans of the 'Brother Cadfael' mysteries of the late Ellis Peters. This is the first of three episodes from Cadfael's life 'in the World,' before he took to the cloisters of Shrewsbury.

Among the Ashes (MF,oral)
This story owes much to comments on structure made by Katie McN. The idea sort of popped into my head one Sunday afternoon when I was walking the dogs. I think it still my own favourite piece.
The Anglo-Saxon Chronicles
My series of tales set in pre-Norman England
Dear Bill (nosex)
I was in need of some light relief so I jotted down this piece of nonsense.
Desdemona and the Tiger (nosex)
This story grew from Desdmona's wish that I write a story with her in, and Gary's wish to see a Shakespearean tale. Then Franz Kafka announced the 2003 Summer Pirate Challenge, and....
Frontier Incident (nosex,humor)
Somebody said in criticism that my writing style was like a 'Government Report.' I wrote this story with my tongue planted firmly in my cheek, by way of reply and posted it as 'Another Government Report.'
Falling For Jenny (mf,rom,oral,1st)
This is my first story, written in a single sitting one afternoon. It remains my most popular story at Stories Online both in terms of score and in number of downloads.
The Green Man
In British mythology, the Green Man is something of an enigmatic figure. His true symbolic meaning has been lost but he is variously portrayed as a fertility God, a representative of youth and renewal or something somewhat darker - the force of nature itself.

Like Father Like Son (MF,oral,rom)
This story came about exactly as I describe in the prologue. The airmen's grave does exist. In truth, it is the last resting place of William Barnard Rhodes Moorhouse, VC, RFC and his son, also a fighter pilot and winner of the Distinguished Flying Cross, who was killed in the Battle of Britain.
Losing It (mf,rom,1st)
The trials and tribulations of being a teenager! Sadly, some of the incidents in this tale are based on true events. The names have been changed to protect the guilty!
"Maid Elizabeth" (MF,rom,1st)
I wrote this after a visit to the lovely little town of Lyme Regis and a chance conversation overheard in a pub there. The story is set against the background of WW II. A number of older readers have said that it does manage to capture the spirit of the time. I hope so.

Metamorphosis of Narcissus (M+F,oral,anal,nc)
I wrote this story to try to do something different from my normal 'romantic' pieces. This is darker and has a rougher edge.
Monster (nosex)
This is my look at domestic abuse. 'Inspired' in large part by Alexis's story, "Monsters".

Old Men's Dreams (nosex)
I wrote this poem when I was Seventeen. I found it recently among a variety of old poems, songs and the like, written in an old school exercise book. Nostalgia ain't what it used to be.

The Polish Dragoon (MF)
I started out to write a sort of 'black' sex story but got caught up in the idea of the situation. Not quite 'Sleeping with the Enemy' but along those lines.
Rising to the Occasion (MF,rom)
I set out to write a humorous piece but it got away from me and ended up as a romantic story with a twist.

The Scent of Roses (mf,1st)
I was standing in the garden, smoking a cigar and looking at my roses. This very short story just appeared, fully formed, as I stood there. I just walked inside and wrote it down.
Schadenfreude (nosex)
Literally, 'Taking pleasure in other's misfortunes.' I wanted to tell a story entirely with dialogue and then slip in a little twist in the last line.
The Time Machine 1: Going Greek (ScFi, Humour, No-Sex)
This is the first in an occasional series of silliness. Fun, I hope.
The Time Machine 2 - Roman in the Gloamin' (nosex, humour)
Second in the travels of Jonty and the Prof.
Walking the Dog (MF,oral)
I originally planned to write this story for the ASSM Song Festival. However, as it developed, it became clear that it was going to be much too long. My wife asked me to write a story featuring our dogs in some way. So this story is dedicated to her, Luka and Wyspa, who really is a rotten retriever!

Then she did it again here.
The Wheel of the Seasons (MF, rom)
This is a story in four parts, each of precisely 250 words. The parts are
named for the great Celtic Fire Festivals.
