Chapter 27-30

Chapter 27

AJ has regained his strength and a bit of his sight. His eyes are still very sensitive to light and he prefers to stay in a dark room for now. The wound on his head is healing ok and the one on his leg has begun to heal more. He has gotten out of bed a few times to use the bathroom, but that's it. He has to limp on one foot because of the strain on his muscles and ligaments from being hung upside down for so long. It will probably take a while for him to completely heal enough to get around without a problem.

His sunburn has begun to heal and some of the burned skin has begun to peal and flake off. We have done our best to keep his more sensitive areas moistened with lotion to lessen the peeling and pain, you know like the crotch.

"Nearly done with the cameras," he replied. He had gotten the pile of cameras we had gathered installed around the house and island so we would know what was going on anywhere on the island. "All I have to do is connect the hologram viewer to the camera system and we are a go," he said.

It took him a few minutes and then a hologram popped up in front of us with several views of the house and around the island.

"Wow! This is great. We can see just about the whole island now," I told him. patting him on the shoulder to tell him good job. He had views of inside the house, a view from the top of the island that turned in all directions, one of the boat house, one of each of the beaches, one of the gazebo, and a few other random ones placed around the island.

"What about the Internet uplink?" I asked.

"That will be on the list after I get the cloak working completely. Right now it is just hiding the house and ship," he explained.

I looked around the room and it definitely looked like something out of a Star Wars movie. There were weird gadgets all over the room that looked to be linked together somehow. He had several hologram displays showing different things like how the alien power device was doing, the level of our house electricity, the cameras, the cloaking shield controls, and other vital stuff.

"Ok dude, I'll leave you to your work. I know how much you love it," I said being sarcastic. I left him and went on about my business.

The boys were chomping at the bit to get outside in the water and were bugging the shit out of me, so I said, "The hell with it!" and went out with them. "Ok guys whoever is going to the beach, it's time to get sun block on," I announced to every one loudly.

I was shaken awake some time later by Adrien who was smiling slightly. "Sorry to wake you. I have the systems all up and running now," he said quietly.

I noticed that all the younger boys had fallen asleep and Zack was lying against my side, snoozing peacefully. I rubbed my eyes and woke up for the next few seconds before sliding away from him and letting him lie down on the couch to sleep. I followed Adrien to the command center to see what he had going on.

He had straightened the mess of wires and cables out and the room looked halfway organized now. The holograms were still all going strong and showing all sorts of info. We could now see most of the island and a lot of ocean around the island, for miles it seemed like. "Ok, now does this mean the whole island is covered now?" I asked.

"Yes, we are cloaked entirely now. It is safe to go out at any time now," he answered with a smile of confidence.

"Ok, how about you take a break now? I can sense that you're worn out. Why don't you go take a hot bath and maybe get Carry to join you," I said waggling my eyebrows to drop a hint.

I felt my mind searching and catching glimpses of the magic kingdom and seeing familiar structures that were there. Then I caught hold of his mind.

He slumped down the wall of the shower and was sitting in the falling water. "You don't know how bad I've felt since I left. I was so scared that he never woke up after Adam hit him with that gun," Max sighed.

"Well, he's alive and fine so you can stop worrying. Come on let's get that hair washed and go get some sleep," I suggested, extending my hand to help him to his feet. He smiled and grabbed my hand and stood up. He surprised me by what he did next.

Once in my room, I shut and locked the door and Donny walked towards the bed, but stopped right in front of the big bay window by the hot tub. "What is that?" he asked, pointing out the window towards the sky in the direction of the moon.

Chapter 28

"What is that thing?" Donny asked.

"Bad, bad trouble," I said.

A huge dark mass was in the sky illuminated by the moons glow. It looked like it was in orbit but it was immensely huge. It had to be about a quarter the size of the moon if not a little bigger.

"Adrien get your dick out of Carry and come to my room now!" I thought to Adrien and a minute later I had a knock at my door. I let him in and he looked surprised.

"What is it? You sounded urgent," he asked.

"Look," I told him and pointed to the sky.

He looked with his dark eyes and said, "I think it has begun."

"What has begun?" Donny asked.

"Extinction," I said in a low breath.

"Huh?" Donny asked again.

"More monsters, Donny, and lots of them," I told him and then he looked scared. "Adrien I think we need that Internet connection up and running like now. If there are others out there who don't know about the second invasion, we need to tell them," I told our hybrid.

"I agree. We need information about delivering a baby as well. Carry seems to be accelerating in her pregnancy faster than she should. Maybe it is the alien genes doing it. I'm not sure," Adrien said.

"I noticed she was looking a little big for being so early in pregnancy," I said.

"Yes, it seems she is nearing the third trimester already. She should only be just starting to show her belly now. She couldn't even have sex with me because of the pains," he said.

"Well. Dude, I hope you still got some energy. We need that Internet like now," I suggested.

"I'll get right on it," he said and left for his work area.

I felt Donny squeeze my hand tightly and begin to shiver. "It's ok, bud. They don't know we're here. The cloak is hiding us plus they can't survive in the heat here," I told him.

"Yeah, but what if they shoot a death laser or something at us from up there?" he asked.

It was a damn good question that I didn't have an answer for so I lied. "They don't know we're here Donny so why would they just shoot at random?" I explained. "Trust me I think you can sleep soundly tonight cus they don't know where to find us," I reassured the little guy. It seemed to calm his nerves some and he lay down on my bed. It took him some time to fall asleep but he did eventually.

Adrien worked for a few hours and thought to me, "The connection is made. I am ready to attempt logging on if you want to join me." I went as quickly as I could to his work area and he had a hologram popped up with the Internet controls on it.

Once he saw I was ready he touched the hologram and a connection went through a satellite and it worked. "Yes! You are a genius my friend," I told him rubbing his shoulder.

He typed in INVASION SURVIVORS and got a list of web address related to it. "There click on that one," I said pointing to an address that said "Survivors need help please," It was a message board set up for any one who survived and still had access to the net.

We read several messages of people who had posted them looking for answers or details of the invasion but there was nothing we could use. He clicked on the next address and it was a recent posting of someone in the immediate area.

"Hey, it says the Virgin Islands. That's like right around here. Lets see what it says. It's dated like a week ago," I told Adrien.

"PLEASE IF ANYONE OUT THERE READS THIS I AM DESPERATELY RUNNING LOW ON FOOD. IF YOU CAN HELP ME PLEASE I WILL BE INDEBT TO YOU FOREVER. I AM ALONE AND SCARED. MY PARENTS LEFT LAST WEEK FOR A TRIP TO FIND FOOD ON OUR BOAT AND I HAVEN'T SEEN THEM SINCE. I'M NOT SURE IF THIS MESSAGE WILL EVEN GET OUT BUT IF IT DOES I HOPE SOMEONE SEES IT," the message said.

"Wow a week ago. That means it's been two weeks since he saw his. You think it's a kid like us?" I asked Adrien.

"Hard to say. It does sound like it though. The coordinates attached to the message show it to be a small island like this. Possibly another private island like this one with a home on it," Adrien said.

"When can we try it out?" Donny asked.

"When can we try it?" AJ asked calmly.

The guys all talked about what they wanted to do and I had to raise a point. "Um guys, only thing is, I wasn't thinking of riding a roller coaster at all, I was actually thinking of playing baseball at the time Adrien scanned me," I told them. "I don't know how the roller coaster thing happened, but I'm glad it came out that way instead of me playing baseball," I explained.

The boys all wondered about what their experiences could be. We all went on enjoying the day playing games and talking about the ROOM as we have come to call it. Until Adrien woke up.

"Yes, I know. In what order are we going to try this?" he asked. That was something I hadn't thought about. I came up with an idea to make little pieces of paper with numbers on them, one for everyone in the house numbered it accordingly. I put all the pieces into a small can and let everyone reach in and pick one out. Whatever number they had was the order they tried the room in. I closed it and Adrien showed me the controls for the chamber. He showed me how to work it and, if need be, how to disable it. It was all technical, but I got the basics of how it worked and I knew what the off button was, so I was set. He and I talked about how the thing worked when a light flashed on the controls telling us that Cole's experience was done.

I opened the door and he was sitting on the floor smiling, with a tears in his eyes. "How was it?" Adrien asked him.

"Try this. It seems to work for me sometimes when I get stressed out or I can't concentrate," I told him. I showed him how to sit calmly and close his eyes and just let his mind drift to clear out random thoughts. You know, sort of like meditating or something. He sat down and did what I said, and the weirdest damn thing I ever saw happened.

"Holy shit Adrien, are you doing that on purpose?" I asked.

"Doing what?" he asked.

"Making your self look invisible," I said, wide eyed. He was phasing in and out of visible sight like going from being there one second and being see through the next.

"No I am not making it happen, I don't think," he replied.

He opened his eyes and then he was fully visible again.

"Holy shit dude that is a neat trick. Those aliens did a lot to you I think more than we know," I said.

"I told you I wasn't fully sure of what they did," he told me.

"Well that is definitely one neat trick that might come in handy sometime," I said. "How is your mind now?" I asked.

"More focused I think. Thanks for showing me that technique. I seem to know what I need to do now," he replied. He went down to his work area and I went on to bed.

In my room I had a surprise. Gaige wasn't in my bed tonight but rather AJ was. "Why are you in here?" I asked.

"Donny wanted Gaige to sleep in our room tonight, so I switched with him for the night," AJ said yawning.

"Hmmm. Makes me wonder why they wanted to sleep in the same room?" I said scratching my head, being smart.

Chapter 30

The ROOM has been getting a lot of use by everyone in the house.

Carry's belly has gotten to a huge state and she looks ready to pop.

I checked our supplies yesterday and we are getting low on a few things. And there are some things we need to get that we never thought about before, like diapers, and baby clothes, and things like that. Adrien, Gaige, AJ, and I are going to take the space ship to the mainland and find a store to raid for supplies.

I decided to take Gaige since he didn't really have any clothes or anything of his own here, not that he would wear clothes anyway. The little guy has gotten quite used to being naked. He and Donny have struck up a friendship, in the bedroom that is. I think Donny likes being the bigger boy in the fun they have.

We are low on a few essentials like toilet paper and junk food. The guys and I put some clothes on and got ready to go. Gaige borrowed some of Zack's clothes to wear while we were gone. We got in the ship and Gaige's eyes widened at the marvel of it.

"Wow! Is this thing for real?" he asked looking around.

"Sure is little dude," I told him.

Adrien got in his usual position running the ship and powered it up. The viewing wall showed us the outside and Gaige marveled at it. "Wow that's like a huge TV," he said. Adrien made some chairs come from out of the floor for the guys to sit in and I got in the other position next to him to help operate the ship.

"What do you want me to do?" I asked him.

"I believe I can do it all now. Let me try," he said. He closed his eyes and the ship lifted off a lot easier than ever before and we were off to the US again. "Hmm. That would explain why the ship wasn't going as fast as it could have potentially," Adrien observed.

"What do you mean?" I inquired.

"There was a problem with the circuits of the engines. I have corrected it and we now have full speed capabilities," he explained.

"Ok. So how long will it take us to get back to land?" I asked him.

"Not long at all. Everyone get ready we are about to propel faster," Adrien warned us just before we were planted in our seats by the sudden burst of acceleration. The ocean below us seemed to flash by at an unbelievable speed.

"Damn, how fast are we going?" AJ asked.

"Roughly about 2,000 miles per hour [3,000 km/h]," Adrien said calmly like it was nothing.

"Holy shit! Is that the fastest this thing can go?" Adam asked.

"No. it is a space ship, remember; it has the capability of going fast enough for interstellar travel," Adrien said. AJ looked like he didn't have a clue what Adrien said.

"He means it can fly through space so it has to be super fast," I explained.

"Yes, if I had to approximate the top speed, it would be maybe two times the speed of light," Adrien said.

"HOLY SHIT!" AJ exclaimed.

I couldn't believe we were going this fast right now, let alone that we could go faster than the speed of light.

"Look there's the mainland," AJ said pointing ahead of us. It had taken us a few minutes to get back to land where before it took us hours to get out to the island we live on.

"Ok lets slow down and start looking for a place to get supplies," I suggested.

Adrien slowed the ship way down so we could look for what we were searching for. About 20 minutes after we got over land again we spotted a supper market that was half demolished from the invasion. "Lets check in there," I said pointing at it.

We landed in the parking lot and before leaving the ship we got the alien device we've had for a while and turned on the cloaking field around us.

"Why are we so close together?" Gaige asked.

"Shh. Not so loud. We're being cloaked so no one can see us with this thing," AJ said pulling the gun he brought with him out of his waistband. I, too, had brought one and had it ready as well, just in case.

We entered the building and it looked like it was ransacked. There were shelves overturned and the place smelled terrible from rotten food. We had to pinch our noses to keep the smell from making us gag. We checked the building out before collecting what we needed.

Once we felt like we were ok to shop we grabbed a few carts and pushed them through the few lanes we could get down and loaded them with what ever we could find that was still good. The bread was all moldy and gross, the meat was all rotten and stunk badly, and all of the stuff in the produce section was rotten, except for some nuts.

We gathered three carts of supplies and wheeled them out to the ship and secured them in the cargo area. One cart was nothing but diapers and baby formula for the baby coming, one cart was all toilet paper, and the third was what little bit of food we could find. These meager few carts weren't going to be enough so we kept looking.

We ended up finding a huge supermarket a few cities away and it seemed to be the jackpot for us. The building structure itself was relatively intact. The roof was damaged and the outside was messed up some, but it was still standing.

We landed outside and made a cautious approach inside like before. We checked the building out first and then each got a cart and went off in two teams to gather what we could find. We met back at the entrance when we were done and saw what the others collected.

Adrien got lots of stuff for the baby, AJ got some food, I got odds and ends like stuff for the house, and Gaige had a cart full of junk food. We loaded those four carts and went back inside for more.

This time we gathered up all the soda pop there was, a lot of canned foods, more junk food, and even found an ice cream making machine and ice cream mixes to take with us. With 8 carts of stuff on board from this place we went back inside to see what else we could find.

It was a store with a grocery part and a retail part to so we checked all through it. Adrien found stuff for the baby like clothes and a crib. AJ raided the electronics department and grabbed all kinds of games and stuff that we didn't have before.

Gaige and I went to the boys' dept. and got him some clothes of his own, not that he would need them much. I headed to the toy department with Gaige after that and filled my cart with what ever looked cool and what ever I thought the guys at home might want. Again, we met back at the entrance and went out to the ship to stow our new stuff.

"We're gonna have to remember this place. It's got all kinds of shit we might need," AJ said. We loaded the carts and noticed that the hold was getting full of stuff, and also realized that we needed to get rid of the carts when we got the stuff home. So before we left, we dumped the carts out on the floor and just left the carts behind. That way we wouldn't have to worry about carts congesting our cargo room.

Once we had the stuff in the ship and carts outside we went back to the control room and got in our positions. "Hey Adrien I was thinking, since the ship is way faster now and it's not that late in the day, lets look around and see if we find anything or anyone," I suggested.

The others thought that was a good idea so that's exactly what we did. We flew around for a while and neither Adrien or I sensed any signs of human life. We then went north for a while and still nothing. After a few hours of this we decided to head for home.

"Where the hell are we exactly?" AJ asked.

"Just outside of Atlanta, Georgia," Adrien said. We had traveled several hundred miles in only a few hours time in the ship. When we got to the center of Atlanta all of the buildings were wrecked. It seemed like this place was hit very hard in the invasion. The place was totally devastated so we turned southward towards home.

In a matter of minutes we were back in Florida and streaking home. "Hey let's go by Busch Gardens, maybe there's some animals still alive there," Adam suggested. It was only early afternoon so we did what he said. Minutes later we were floating over the area and it looked to be deserted. The big animal pens were empty, most of the buildings were collapsed, and there seemed to be no life there.

"Wait, I sense life. I think maybe someone is down there," Adrien said. We found a place to land the ship and cloaked ourselves before walking out. Adrien led us to an area and pointed. "There. I sense the life in there." He was pointing at some kind of man made cave looking structure.

"Hello is any one there? " I asked. We took a risk and turned the cloak off so if someone was there they could see us. "Hello?!" I yelled again. A second later we were totally shocked.

Someone did come out of there then, only it wasn't human.

"Holy shit cool!" AJ said.

It was a young chimpanzee that was hiding in the cave. I couldn't imagine how it had evaded being killed by the monsters.

"Let me try," Adrien said. He looked at the ape and a minute later it walked over to him and took his hand. "I used my thought ability to tell him it was ok and we were friends," Adrien explained.

"How long do we have?" I asked.

"Two days, maybe three. After that we will be well into the storm boundaries," he explained.

"Fucking great! How are supposed to get this place ready in two days for a storm like that?" I said feeling frustrated.

"Well the outer windows have the hurricane shutters to secure them. But I feel the worst thing for us to fear may be the storm surge. It's a big wall of ocean waves that get pushed up by the strong winds," he explained.

"So are we going to get flooded out or washed away?" I asked.

"I don't believe it is as bad as you are thinking, but it will definitely do damage. I don't think that the boathouse will be in very good shape once the storm is passed," he said.

"Well, that's the least of our worries. As long as the house and the ship are ok then we can deal with it," I said feeling a little better now. "Keep an eye on it ok," I asked him.

"Already ahead of you. I have modified this ipod to remotely display information from the systems here," he said.

"Ok, well lets get some the others rounded up and let them know what's going on," I said and we did just that.

I told Adrien to go ahead and he began to explain what was happening. "We have a rather large storm heading towards us and it will be here in a few days. It is a hurricane and it will do damage. I will not lie about that. So far the winds are around 120 mph [200 km/h] and they could lessen or increase by the time it gets here. We need to make preparations before it does get here," he told them.

Some of the guys got a little freaked out by that. "Is it going to blow us away?" Zack asked.

"No buddy. This house is mostly built in the side of the hill; most of it is under ground. The part that is outside might get some damage but that's what we have to get ready for," I said.

"Yes, the windows have the storm shutters to protect them, but the roof may suffer some damage. The trees will surely be damaged from the winds, and I believe the boat house will be damaged severely," Adrien explained.

While we were making the announcement about the hurricane a bright light poured through the window. It was now evening and the sun was setting, but this light was brighter than the brightest day. Everyone shielded their eyes from the intense light.

"What the fuck is that?!" AJ said, covering his face.

A few seconds later the light subsided and we could see again. "Oh no! Look," Phillip said pointing out the window.

In the sky many miles away was something none of us figured we would ever see in our lives. It was a mushroom cloud stretching from the earth into the sky. "Is that what I think it is?" I asked Adrien.

"Yes and no," he replied.

"Ok…," I said giving him a questioning look.

"Yes it's a mushroom cloud, and no its not a nuclear bomb, I don't think anway," he said.

"Then what the hell is it Mr. Wizard?" AJ asked still hiding his black eyes.

"It came from orbit. It's the after affects of their weapon," Adrien said.

"You mean the monsters just blasted something from space and that's what happens when they do?" Cole asked getting scared.

"Afraid so," Adrien answered.

"What if they see us and blast us?" Cody asked.

"Don't worry buddy we have the shield to hide us from them," I said squeezing the little guy's shoulders. "If they were going to blast us, they would have done it by now. You think they would have waited to blast us this long after doing that island they just did?" I said, trying to put everyone at ease. The truth was I didn't know myself.

"Come on every body lets just settle down and stay inside the rest of the night. Tomorrow we'll start getting things ready for the storm," I told them.

"He's right. There's nothing we can do about that island. All we can do now is get our's ready for the storm," Carry said. She put her hands on her brothers' shoulders and guided the scared boys to their room.

Once everyone was out of the room I asked Adrien a serious question. "Are you sure that the shield is going to protect us? I mean, if you aren't and I mean even a little bit not sure, then tell me now. You all have put me in charge and its not a position I want to be in. but I am. So, if you aren't sure, tell me so I can make sure we all live."

"I can not say 100 percent, 'yes we are safe', but I have put every ounce of my abilities into making sure it does its best. I mean, we are still alive aren't we?" he said making a point.

"That's not exactly the answer I was looking for. Lets just go get some rest. We're gonna have a long couple days ahead of us," I suggested.

We both went to our rooms and settled down for a night's rest before starting the tasks of getting the island ready for the hurricane.
