NOT Chapter
13
When I first posted Chapter One of
Holiday Games in 2013, the original plan was keep posting the relevant chapters
soon after the dates the action occurred in the story, as if the events had just
happened to our hero. Previously I had always promised myself that I would
never become one of those writers who posted unfinished stories. However, in
this case I felt confident that I would still get the job done. When I
published the first chapters about Easter I had already written about
Christmas, and I had an overall story plan to take the story through to a
conclusion at either Easter or Anzac Day in 2014.
Unfortunately, when the time came to
publish chapter 13, I had become very badly stuck in chapter 24, and I didn't
realistically think I was going to start writing again for the foreseeable
future.

There are many reasons why I stopped
writing.

I had writer's block, particularly
relating to the direction of the story. A big part of me wanted to go in a
slightly more incesty direction, but I was worried
about alienating the people who had enjoyed the story so far.

I was down on the fact that the story
probably wasn't reaching its intended audience. I am grateful to ASSTR for
providing free hosting of my stories over many years, but I can't escape the
perception that it has been superseded by Literotica
and become little more than a home for child pornography that Literotica won't allow. Holiday Games has a lot of 16 and
17 year old characters, and it would take a lot of rewriting to bring them up
to 18. (I would like to add that the age of consent in New Zealand is 16, so
none of my characters were breaking any laws. It hadnt occurred to me that
sites like Literotica would draw the line at 18).

I lost the ability to write while I was
at work. I used to get a lot of writing done during quiet spells in my job.

I had a bunch of stuff going on in my
private life as well.
Even though I have written but not
published many chapters, I made the decision to not publish them because
chapter 12 provided such a good place to leave it. The story doesn't feel
obviously incomplete at that point.
I have been doing a bit of writing on
various other stories, but I'm struggling to focus on anything in particular
and nothing is close to being published.
