Ink Stained Reunion

Chapter 15: Less is More

Aurora clutched Zandra’s rod tight. It was the only reason she was still cognizant. “One of these days I’m going to need to take you up on that offer for a tour, Zandra. Maybe you can explain how things like this work. Maybe I could borrow one? I doubt you give these out to anyone but Wardens . . . Huh.”

Curiosity wasn’t helpful and she knew it. She had no clue how to get there. If she couldn’t help Zandra, it wouldn’t matter if she could.

“I’ve got to find Sylvia. I don’t know how to use this thing but it can keep me safe from a direct blast. That’s something.” Aurora stared into the sapphire at the rod’s end. “I should probably resist the temptation to press this against my forehead and see what happens. Even a little bit used the wrong way could probably leave me brain dead or something. I just need to find her and stop her. But where would she go . . .?”

Zandra seem safe. Her eyes were still blue even after the deluge of ink. She wouldn’t wake to sparks or a good shake of her shoulders. She had told Aurora something like that might happen. She couldn’t waste her time thinking about it.

Aureus was still right where Aurora had left her. A loud roar filled the air as the kickstand flew up, and carried the heroine into the dark night.

The streets were empty. This made crossing the city faster. It didn’t make finding Sylvia any easier. She wasn’t back at school, at the last place they’d been together, or the music store where Aurora helped her buy her first mic. No concert venues had any unusual occurrences or general disturbances.

Stopped at a red light, gazing irresponsibly up at the stars instead of the road, Aurora saw her. Atop a tall hotel was a bright swirl of purple and silver. She was too far up for any facial features, but the only other explanation she had was Sarah and Valerie having a little fun on a rooftop. Neither explanation was something she could ignore.

She parked on the sidewalk and ran right for the elevators, weaving around a woman to slide into one and slam the ‘close door’ button. Impatiently she slammed the top floor and then the door close button hard enough that the buttons didn’t sit quite right.

At the end of the hall a service exit led to the roof. The doorknob twisted easily, but she caught sight of the sign that read “Alarm Will Sound if Door is Opened” and frowned. She pressed her finger beside the knob and flooded out her silver energy. There was a sharp popping sound, and when she opened the door it was silent.

“Sylvia! We have to finish this! Right now! No more running! No more suspense!” Aurora slid her heel back and pushed the door closed with her foot. “You’re not in your right mind right now, and if you do something public you’ll later regret . . . there’s no rewind button here. You’ll lose everything you’ve suffered for. You’ll lose everything. Let me try to help you!”

“Aurora. Did it ever occur to you that I was on a rooftop glowing like a purple lightning bug hoping you’d find me?” Sylvia’s aura sizzled and crackled loudly as it dissolved into the air. “Sarah was the one who always told you to look up. I used to listen, you know. Let’s drop this villain, heroine thing for a moment. I want to ask you a question.”

Silver eyes blinked. “Uhm . . . Isn’t it cold up here in that dress? You could have just . . . Not run away? But . . . Ask away?”

Sylvia smirked and tugged her dress down faintly. “I’ve only been up here for about five minutes. I left about an hour ago. I did some thinking. Wasn’t Sarah’s spark-proof suit ruined when she first met Quillspawn?”

“Yeah, it was. You’re sort of the reason she got a replacement, even after she got her powers back.” Aurora winced and slid a hand into her jacket to grasp the Warden’s rod. “The Domina was still around, and Sarah beat her as Patina. She admitted she wasn’t half as good at some of the uses of her powers as The Domina was and it seemed like a wise precaution. It’s not like it’s kryptonite or anything.”

Sylvia smirked and turned on the balls of her feet to gaze out at the city. “True. It’s not. I ran because I had a crisis of conscience. Well to be more honest, I had doubts I could pull it off. If I couldn’t melt the Warden what other challenges would come my way.”

A cool breeze teased the air and Aurora with the sight of Sylvia’s hair fluttering in the wind as her heart fluttered in her chest. Sylvia needed her. Her stomach twisted as understanding came with the widening of her eyes.

Sylvia turned, and took a step toward her sister. Matching her exact pace Aurora took a step back while clutching the rod tighter. Black lips grinned and again moved closer. Aurora’s eyes flashed subtly, too faintly for her to notice as she stepped back again. “Did that change your mind . . .?”

“No. It made me realize that fear of getting caught is something that can help me.” Another step forward, and another step back. “Fear can be healthy.” Sylvia took a longer step, forcing Aurora to take two to stay as far away. “Fear can be sexy. You’re terrified, and only in part because of how much you want me. But fear can be bad. Quit running from me, and let me consume you. Let me show you my love!”

Aurora whimpered as her foot bumped against the edge of the roof, and Sylvia’s leg brushed along the inside of hers. “Control isn’t love. If you move any closer, or try anything, I’ll take another step. I’ll fall.”

Softer than a drifting leaf Sylvia traced the tip of her finger along the curve of Aurora’s cheek. “My control can be all the love you need. I understand why you didn’t want me to leave, but had to let me go. You weren’t going to ask me to stay. You were going to beg to come with me. There’s room on my tour for you. I picked through Kelly’s memories, you know. She showed me how sad you were. She showed me how lonely you were. Let me complete you. I’ll devour your worries and your fears. I’ll let you keep all the best things . . .”

Sparkling wet mist traced along Aurora’s neck without melting inside. Aurora rested the ball of her foot on the ledge. “I’m not kidding. If you tasted her watching me, then you know my gold isn’t there. I’ll fall. We’re over ten stories up.”

The singer’s eyes widened. Her lips lost their grin and twisted open with a horrified gasp. “Rora . . . You’re my sunrise . . . You can’t fall . . .” She shook her head, and like a cheap mask shook off her worry. Her eyes narrowed in a fierce scowl as her hand tightly held and squeezed Aurora’s cheek. “If you keep saying things like that I’m going to have to punish you. You’ll love it, but you’ll still learn your lesson. Be a good girl and do what the pretty Singularity tells you to do. You want me, you still want me!”

“I want my Sylvia back. Let me help her. Let me sizzle away whatever happened.” Aurora leaned up from the ledge, and pressed her lips to Sylvia’s. Her lips pulsed with silver light, and Sylvia arched out against her and shook like a guitar string. When the kiss broke, the black over her lips was slicker and dripped away. Sylvia mewled as her silver and violet lips pulsed with light. “Let me be the strong one, like I always forced you to be.”

Sylvia slid her tongue out along her lips. The wet ink tasted hollow. It still felt linked to a place inside of her, but she could only taste mindless confusion from Yana. She could feel the silver daze through Kelly, and the compliant self-inflicted bondage that held Pamela on her knees. It felt so black and white.

Vibrant colors pulsed as her tongue shone brightly and rubbed again across her lips. She could feel the heat in her sister’s thighs and it made hers clench. Wet heat pulsed louder between her thighs than in her mind.

“You always make things so complicated . . . I get everything figured out, and you get shot, or you rape me, or you say something I want to disagree with but you make too much sense.” Sylvia sighed weightlessly as she hooded her eyes. “I’d hate you if I didn’t love you. You make me want to want something sane. But . . . nothing escapes the singularity. You can’t escape a black hole sis . . . It can’t even escape as it sucks itself into a twisted mirror of its former self.”

“I can help you! We can get you help! You don’t need to be Singularity, you . . . You’re my Sylvia, my Sylvie, with her hot yummy nebula!” Aurora stared up into Sylvia’s eyes. Her fingertip glowed with silver light as it rubbed along her lips, sending small arcs of bright pleasure through Sylvia’s thoughts. “See? That light can guide you back out of the hole.”

Aurora’s finger pressed firmly against the seam of Sylvia’s loosely parted lips, and the glow intensified. The last of the black left her lips, which she instantly pursed to kiss Aurora’s finger.

More . . . You need . . . More . . . She wants to take away your drive . . . You took me inside of you . . . You made me a part of you . . . I know your ambitions, your desires . . . She would make you play it safe. She would make you play by the rules. If you want more . . . She has to go.

Sylvia’s eyes twitched. It was suddenly so much easier to feel the cool breeze than it was to feel Aurora. She slid her fingertips down along Aurora’s neck with a soft whimper. Anesthetized, she could feel the pressure, her skin, but not the warmth or the connection. She whimpered as she felt slick ink run along her scalp even as she rubbed her thigh down against her sister’s and felt only the friction.

“Sis . . . Let me help you! This is tearing you apart, just like you said. Let me help! Let me be your sun, just like you said. I can dry up the ink. It might make it hard to think for a bit, but trust me, please—” Aurora’s lips continued to move in silence.

She’ll make you like you were before. You know that’s what she’ll do. She’ll make you the innocent singer, the good girl. You’ll never get to touch her again. Nikki, yes. Aurora? No. If you let her use any more of that silver of hers . . . You’ll lose how much you’ve grown. You’ll be her older sister again, and nothing more

She grasped Aurora’s shoulders to steady herself. Voices screamed in her mind. Kelly’s voice screamed at the darkness. Aniela’s voice whimpered at the loneliness. Pamela’s voice screamed at the fate her selfishness awarded her.

“Make it stop . . . Make it all stop . . . I need it, I need her, I love her, I don’t want to hurt her!” Sylvia held tighter, her knees shaking as she struggled to hold on. The roof underneath her felt uneven and slippery. Her legs felt numb. “I don’t want . . . don’t want . . .”

Then make her stay. Use your power. Keep her forever. Make her yours. Make her. Unmake her. Claim her. Claim your toy. Clutch her to your chest. Slide your fingers into her hair. Make her your toy.

“NO!”

Sylvia pushed Aurora away with all of the strength she still felt in her arms. She fell to her knees with her arms hanging over the building. Her eyes closed tight, and ink tears dripped down along her face. “Saved you . . . Got you away from me . . . Don’t deserve you, can’t ruin you like she wants me to . . . Aurora!”

Color came back to the world as she saw Aurora fall. She couldn’t move except to reach out her hand. Her body was full of hardening black cement. Regular tears mingled with the falling ink as she screamed.

Aurora shone again, bright silver, but it wasn’t enough. “Looks like I used too much of my power too quick . . .Sorry Moms, I tried to save you, to make you proud . . .Guess I’ll be seeing you soon, Mommy . . .” She reached her hand up towards Sylvia, closing her eyes tight as she slammed into the sidewalk down below.
