The Consequences and Rewards of Playing Hookey

Chapter 20

‘Things Aren’t Always What They Seem’

Fast forward several months later. Derek was sitting on his bed; staring at the door. He was waiting. He was praying. He was hoping beyond hope that he had been wrong. Now all he could do was wait.

* * *

The day after Rana Preema’s ill-fated date with Paul Prescott had been a busy one for Derek and his friends. It began quite pleasantly for Derek.

“Good Morning, sleepy head,” grinned Sandy from her bed, looking at the man she was sharing it with.

“Hey yourself,” he smiled. “Some night we had, huh?”

“It wasn’t so bad. The results were everything we had hoped for.”

“Despite not going to the movies,” he laughed.

“Despite not going to the movies,” she agreed. “The important thing is that we have Rana and Rogesh back with the program.”

“You were kind of rough with them.”

“I know. I didn’t like it, but I sensed that Rana was going to be greatly affected by what almost happened to her. I didn’t give that a chance to happen. I gave her something else to worry about that actually left her happy and grateful.”

“I was shocked by how affectionate she and Rogesh were when I drove them home last night. I had a hard time separating them when we got to her house.”

“Also, it looks like Kyle and Tara are getting close. I think they are almost ready to learn the truth. I may tell Tara today, but we should probably avoid telling Kyle for a bit longer.”

“Speaking of Tara, we’ll be meeting her and Kyle along with Chantelle, Maya and Mindy at St. Agnes in a couple of hours.”

“And your friend too, right?”

“Apparently.”

“Well, I think we might have time for a little fun,” she husked. She began to kiss her boyfriend while her hand found his hardening member and rubbed it on her moistened pussy before inserting it into her.

* * *

Kyle answered his cell phone. “Tara! Are you OK this morning?”

“I’m fine Kyle. The question is: How are you and are you still on for this morning.”

“We’re still on and I am bit scraped and sore, but not too bad.”

“Did your parents notice?”

“Yeah… I told them I tripped on the curb. They believed me because I’m such a klutz,” he laughed.

“You seemed pretty graceful and coordinated to me,” she said with a smile he could feel and almost see.

Kyle blushed and got shy.

After an extended moment, she asked, “Kyle?”

“I’m here,” he murmured.

“I was proud of how brave you were last night.”

“I wasn’t going to let anyone hurt you.”

“I felt the same way about you,” she smiled with her own blush.

There was dead air for a few seconds before she uttered a quick, “My folks and I will pick you up in about an hour and a half.”

“OK,” he said before the line went dead.

Tara sat on her bed and realized that she was having some feelings for Kyle that she didn’t think she would be having. She wasn’t a snob, but they certainly ran with different crowds. Still, lately she was hanging out with her fellow cheerleaders and Kyle’s friends, as their groups had kind of merged. Three of her JV teammates were dating his friends and Sandra was dating Derek. Even Rana was kind of dating Rogesh (sort of against her will). Strangely, Sandra had not demanded that Tara really date Kyle, like she had with the others. Tara was just to give the world that impression and let him escort her to his Prom as a friend. At the time she had been grateful, but now she was feeling sad. She thought that she was developing a crush on Kyle. Her confidence was improving as her appearance and figure improved. Kyle was becoming more and more physically attractive as he got in better shape.

Tara had had crushes in the past. She had even been hurt by boys who tricked her into believing they cared for her before either trying to embarrass her or trying to use her body for their own pleasure. Her parents had raised her not to be promiscuous and to be careful who she shared her treasures with, so they remained unshared. Kyle wouldn’t be like those boys. She knew he honestly cared for her.

Now, she felt it would be easy to consider dating Kyle, if he hadn’t told her from the onset that he just wanted to be friends. She felt a tear run down her cheek, before wiping it away and walking down to breakfast.

When Derek and Sandy entered the fellowship hall at St. Agnes, they were greeted by an interesting sight. He saw Chantelle and Mindy looking on with concern. Derek’s mind controlling “friend” had his arm around two women. One was a young, stunningly beautiful honey blond. She could have been a model or a movie actress based upon her beauty and curvaceous figure. The other girl was Derek’s Maya. Both girls were smiling ear-to-ear, as was the man.

“Hello Derek. I see you made it,” he smiled, before noticing his look of concern. “Don’t worry. Maya here came up to me and gave me a big hug. Apparently she‘s grateful to me for giving her to you.”

Maya picked that moment to break free from the stranger’s arm and ran to give Sandy and Derek hugs. When she got to Derek, she whispered in his ear “I’m yours forever, Master.”

Derek groaned inwardly, but hugged the Latin beauty back tightly.

“Looks like she’s going to be with you for a long time,” the man laughed. “Oh, how rude of me. I haven’t introduced you to ‘my Harmonica’,” he said. Derek saw the woman rolled her eyes and break the man’s grasp to hug the newcomers.

“Hi, my name is actually Harmony Monica Lewis,” she said with a moderately heavy southern accent. “Joshua has told me so much about you.”

Derek mouthed “Joshua?” and the man nodded. Derek then returned his attention to the beautiful woman talking to him. “It’s nice to meet you, Harmony. So ‘Harmonica’?”

“Yeah my parents either had a nasty sense of humor or were pathetically unaware,” she laughed.

Derek marveled. Harmony did not seem like a slave; just a sweet, southern belle. “Well, your significant other has a good time with the name.”

Harmony rolled her eyes yet again. “Tell me about it.”

“C’mon hun, it’s all in fun?” laughed Joshua.

“Uh… Sugar?”

“Yes, dear?”

“You’re rhyming again.”

“Oops,” he laughed, before turning to Derek. “Tara and your friend Kyle are already in the kitchen putting supplies away. I need two people to help them and the rest of you can sweep the hall and start getting tables ready for the lunch crowd. Harmony and I will check on the stew.”

“OK, Maya and Sandy please go help in the kitchen. Chantelle, Mindy and I will start cleaning.”

“OK, honey,” smiled Sandy as she leaned in and kissed Derek. Not be outdone, Maya copied her.

When the four had left for the kitchen, Mindy and Chantelle ran to Derek. Mindy spoke first. “OK, Derek, what’s going on here? We came in and that monster was here. He said his name was Joshua Smith and that he ran the soup kitchen.”

“He’s not really a monster. He’s just a powerful guy with some impulse control issues. My advice is to be nice and respectful to him. Then he won’t give you any problems.”

Chantelle said, “Here’s the thing. Ever since we got here Maya has been acting really strangely. When she saw him, she ran to him and gave him a big hug and a kiss on the cheek. He put his arm around her for the five minutes before you got here. He whispered in her ear and she just kept nodding and smiling.”

Derek frowned slightly. “Why don’t you two get those brooms and start sweeping? I think I need to go in and check on Sandy.”

* * *

Rana Preema was sitting on her bed, lost in thought when her cell phone rang. She smiled when she saw who was calling.

“Hey Rana. Just checking to see if you are OK.” said Rogesh.

“I’m fine. I’m just counting my blessings.”

“Rana… about last night…”

Rana grinned. “There is nothing to be said. I’m yours. Considering everything, that isn’t such a bad thing.”

“I’m just not happy how it all came about. Sandra is making me take advantage of you.”

“Rogesh, honey. Listen to me. I’m not doing anything I don’t want to do.”

“You mean you wanted this to happen?”

“You defended me against Paul and you didn’t give up even when I told you to go away. “

“Derek told me he was working with a friend of his who is a state trooper to take care of Paul and his friends,” reported Rogesh. Unknown to Rana and Rogesh, Derek had used his abilities on the miscreants to ensure that they were cocky enough to return to the “House Plant” that very night. Laura’s new boyfriend, Liam, and several other troopers would be waiting to catch them in the act with their contraband of alcohol and underage girls.

Rana sighed. “Honey, that’s good, but don’t change the subject. You have constantly defended me; You even against Sandra. Anyway, I find all of that quite endearing. I think it’s incredibly sexy too.”

“Me sexy?”

“You’re as cute as a button, but you were so brave too. I find that quite hot. Do you know what else I feel is sexy?”

“What?”

“That you care for me. I know you won’t hurt me. My parents love you, so I know I can see as much of you as I want.”

“I hope that’s a lot.”

“So do I, honey,” she laughed.

* * *

When Derek got into the kitchen he saw Kyle, Tara, Harmony and Maya putting away some recently purchased food. “Hi guys, where’s Sandy?”

“Hi Derek, she’s with Mr. Smith over there,” smiled Tara. Derek turned and saw his girlfriend in the same position his sex slave was in just about five minutes ago. Mr. Smith had an arm wrapped around her waist and was whispering in her ear. Sandy was nodding with a big smile plastered to her face.

“Sandy!” yelled Derek.

“Hi Derek!” she cried. She pulled out of Joshua’s arms and ran to Derek. She kissed him as if she hadn’t seen him in a month.

Joshua Smith walked over to Derek and smiled. “Two down… two to go…” he whispered.

Derek broke the kiss and blurted out, “What?”

Josh pulled Derek over to the side. “I’m just using my power to check my suspicions about your girls.”

“What do you mean?”

“I’m trying to see if and how many of the girls you’ll lose once their service to you is over. Maybe I can stop it too.”

But I don’t want you to do anything to them,” complained Derek.

“You told me you didn’t want to lose them! You can’t have it both ways!” glared Joshua,

Derek realized his attitude was frustrating the powerful man, but couldn’t help his defense of the girls. “I don’t want them changed!”

Harmony saw what was going on and dismissed Tara, Kyle and Maya to help set up tables in the hall. Joshua Smith was about to respond to Derek when he heard a familiar voice. “Joshua!? A word please?” asked a rapidly advancing Harmony. She pulled him out of the kitchen and into a walk-in pantry. Then she closed the door.

Derek heard some heated whispers coming from behind the door. A minute later the couple came out. Joshua was looking down at the floor.

“I’m sorry about that Derek,” said Harmony, as she hugged him. “Sometimes Josh gets carried away. He really wants your friendship and thought he was helping you.”

Joshua nodded. “You told me that you were worried about losing the girls. I was just checking to see of you would.”

Derek put on a somewhat strained smile. “I appreciate the thought, but I don’t want to know. I don’t want them changed anymore, even if it means I will lose them.”

“OK, Derek. I do need to talk to you later, though.”

“OK, Mr. Smith.”

“Please call him Josh. Everybody else does,” smiled Harmony. Josh nodded.

Derek pondered Maya and Sandy’s responses to him after they had been probed by the powerful mind controller. They had both acted quite affectionately. He was beginning to get concerned that the powerful mind controller was changing the girls again.

* * *

Derek was tired. It had been a busy day at the soup kitchen. Hundreds of mouths were fed. The pastor of the church had come down and commended them all a few minutes earlier. Now, Derek looked over and saw Joshua approach.

“Well, good work Derek. Your group did a great job and I will be telling your principal that. The media was here and your school got some good press too,” said Josh.

“Thank you, Mr. Smith.”

“Please call me Josh. You’re my friend after all, remember?”

“Are we friends, Josh?” asked Derek, gulping as he questioned the powerful man.

“Of course.”

“Then why did you change Maya and try to change Sandy?”

“I didn’t. I was just testing them, remember?”

“Maya’s acting more submissive than usual.”

“If she is, it didn’t have anything to do with me. Sandy just seems happy right now. As far as the other girls, I’ve tested them too.”

“And nothing has happened to them?”

“No. I do have a pretty good idea of what will happen in September. I believe you will lose two girls…”

Derek’s face turned ashen. “I don’t want to know!”

“I never meant to do anything to harm your relationship with the girls. During our talk yesterday, you expressed worry at losing them. Since you plan to renounce you abilities in September, I was only trying to help you understand that losing at least some of them was quite likely.”

Derek realized that in his attempt to commiserate with the man, he had told him about how losing even one of his women in September would make him sad. While this was technically true, he also had a secret desire that all of them except Sandy would just be friends with him. Now he realized that Maya would be part of the picture too. He turned to his new friend and smiled. “It’s OK, Josh. If it weren’t for you I wouldn’t be so happy.”

“That happiness isn’t going to last though. Derek, it is likely that you will lose two of them.”

“I know,” stated Derek uncomfortably before adding, “But if that is to happen, then it is for the best.”

As the two men parted, the older one looked at the younger one. Derek had his arm wrapped around the lovely blond girl he loved so well. Josh thought, “If you knew what I think will happen, you might not feel that way,” he thought.

* * *

Back in the present, Derek sat on his bed. Their time of servitude was over. The girls now had a right to choose. He had given each girl instructions to wait until after the first week of the new school year to decide if they wanted their relationship with him to stay the same. Tonight was the night for them to let him know. If they wanted to continue to be with him, they were to come to his house and report to his room after eight PM. It had been hard not being with them. Sandy in particular had been absent from the morning car pool. He even avoided talking to them at school, choosing to eat with his other friends.

Now, it was 7:58 PM according to his clock. As the clock ticked 7:59, a knock came at his door. “Come in,” he said.

In walked Maya with a huge grin on her face. She ran to Derek’s arms and kissed him. He had missed kissing the girls, so he returned her kiss with relish.

“You knew I didn’t need to think about it. I love you, Master,” she smiled after breaking the kiss.

“Please call me ‘Derek’, Maya.”

“That may be a bit hard at first, but I think I can get used to that,” she continued to beam.

“Ahem,” said a voice from the doorway behind the clinching couple.

Derek turned around expecting to see Sandy, but was surprised to see Mindy instead. “Mindy!”

“Derek, sweetheart, you know I’ll always love you too.”

“But I thought….”

“That I was a lesbian?” she interrupted.

“Well, you did kind of come out of the closet at the Prom when you went with Maya.” Derek remembered the junior prom. He had escorted both Sandy and Chantelle. Maya and Mindy had shocked the whole school by escorting each other in a very affectionate manner.

Mindy sighed. “Derek, I’m not sure what my sexual preference really is, but you should understand that I will always love and desire you.” She paused before continuing. “You were the first person to really show me love and I don’t just mean sex.”

“What about your family?”

“They may love me, but they’ve never been affectionate with me. I was starving for love and affection. I was also confused about my sexuality,” she paused again. “I guess maybe I still am. The point is that when you saved us from Joshua Smith, you showed us how much of a caring person you were. I could tell you cared about me, even though I had been a total bitch to you up to that point.”

“I couldn’t let him hurt you guys.”

“I know you did what you did because of the kind of person that you are, but you can’t deny that something happened between us… between all of us. You showed us…. me… love. You held me. You were patient with me. You found a way to make love to me while considering my feelings,” stated Mindy with intensity in her eyes. She leaned in and gave Derek a sweet, lingering kiss. After she broke it, she smiled tenderly at him. “What you need to understand is that this goes beyond gratitude. I love you, Derek and no matter what happens between us, I always will.”

Derek smiled as he gazed into the loving eyes of the redhead. Then something began to nag at him. “Where’s Sandy?” he thought.

* * *

Sandra Turner lay on her bed crying. It had been an amazing last few months with Derek and the girls. She had never known so much happiness and passion. She and Derek had changed the school together and had forged six happy relationships. There were two more couples in addition to Devin and Rachel, Tom and Carrie, Brett and Suzanne, and Connie and Dean Flynn. Tara finally convinced Kyle that she was attracted to him and they had gone to the Junior Prom as planned. They became quite serious about each other. Over the summer they had shown no signs of letting up. Each had spurred the other to lose weight. Now both were almost unrecognizable compared to what they had been. Likewise, Rogesh and Rana had intensified what started as a political friendship into a full bore love affair. Rogesh’s new found confidence allowed him to try out for the Tennis team, which he made.

Sandy’s love affair and friendship with Derek continued to develop and flourish until Sunday night at midnight. That was when Josh Smith’s spell was broken and she was left questioning the past five months and how she really felt. Derek had given them five days to make up their minds. In the end, she made the toughest decision of her young life. It broke her heart and she knew it would break another’s too.

* * *

Sandy never showed up at Derek’s room. The meaning was clear. The couple had spent last weekend at the Turner’s, it was her weekend to stay with him. Derek had held out hope that she would still come over that night, but she never did. Finally, after waiting until Sunday afternoon, he called.

“Hi Derek,” she said quietly into her cell.

“Hey, I guess we’re through.”

“I guess,” she murmured.

“You know, I love you.”

“I know,” her voice paused before adding, “I still love you too.”

“But?”

“But everything’s different.”

“I thought you said your feelings wouldn’t change.”

“As far as you, they haven’t. I still love you.”

“Then what’s wrong?”

“I’m not a slave anymore.”

“You never were.”

“Derek, regardless of what you told me before and what you are telling yourself now, I was. I would do anything to please you. I even engaged in lesbian acts…”

“You didn’t have to do them…”

“I know, but I wanted to… to please you.”

“God, Sandy! I never wanted….”

“Derek, can’t you see? I’m not sure who I am anymore. I love you and I ache to be with you, but I can’t be part of some harem and I don’t think I’m a bisexual. I know Maya and Mindy still want you…”

“I still love them, but…”

“Derek, there are no ‘buts’. They still need you. They both had profound awakenings from this experience. They still want to please you like before. While I had my own epiphany, I can’t be like that anymore. I refuse to be. I’m sorry but there isn’t anything that can be done about it!” she exclaimed as she hung up.

Derek began to cry.

* * *

The next day, all of Derek’s and Sandy’s friends noticed how miserable they both were. Chantelle and Cassius had resumed dating and were quite happy. That did not prevent her from giving Derek a comforting hug when she saw him looking so miserable. Even Jon Sizemore had defended his teammate when he saw Derek getting razzed by a couple of football players for hanging out (Jon assumed platonically) with his ‘lezzie girlfriends’ (Maya and Mindy) at lunch. Jon, who still had his own real ‘lezzie girlfriends’ (Sissy and Lorelei), had come to respect Derek over the past baseball season when the team had won states. He saw Derek as a fellow team leader and somewhat of a friend. They were the key returning players now that Dean, Messing and Marco had graduated. Additionally, he also realized that Derek was at least partially responsible for his amazing sex life with Sissy and Lorelei. Jon played football too and he wasn’t going to let any of his football teammates give Derek any shit.

“Don’t worry about Turner, Carson. She’ll come around,” he said, giving Derek a comforting pat on the back, before leaving to catch up with Sissy at lunch.

Maya and Mindy looked at the vacant expression in Derek’s eyes and then each other. Both felt a tear come to their eyes. They knew what needed to happen.

“Derek?”

“Yeah, Mindy” he murmured.

“You have to let us go,” said Maya.

* * *

Derek saw Sandra sitting a table of cheerleaders. He walked over to her and without saying a word, grabbed her arm and pulled her up. “Derek?! What?”

“Just come with me!” he said, as he pulled her through the door and out on the patio.

“Derek, I’m not going to change my mind….”

“Sandy, you had your say, let me have mine!”

“OK,” she said quietly.

“You’re not the only person who changed from the last five months. I did too. I saw the meanest bitch in the whole world turn back into my best friend. Fuck the sex. I love you Sandy! I always have and I always will! That’s what I learned… we learned over the last five months.”

Sandy started to cry. “I know… I just…”

“I let Maya and Mindy go.”

“You can’t…” she continued to sob.

“I can and I did.”

“But they need you.”

“And they have me and they’ll always have me…. as a dear friend. I love them Sandy, but I’m not IN love with them. I’m in love with you!”

Sandy grabbed Derek and kissed him passionately. He could taste the salt of her tears. He could see the love through those tears. He knew that because his eyes mirrored that love.
