Aden knew he'd taken too long to respond, but refused to feel embarrassed. "Thank you Merced. Unless Miss Devons requires anything, that will be all." She nodded quickly before Merced exited. A beat of silence stretched between them until he broke it. "How soon do we begin?" Jack gulped before answering, suddenly feeling uncomfortable. Was it her or had his eyes not left her since she walked into the room? "I was thinking tomorrow. There are some procedural questions I'll need to ask, as well as write up a chart to map your improvement." It felt like she was talking too fast, but she couldn't help it. "You'll also need to go over the details of your injury." Aden's expression didn't change. "I don't discuss my injury." He saw she was about to say something, but continued, "We will meet first thing in the morning. Until then, your time is your own." Jack blinked. "I understand it's not something you enjoy talking about, but..." She licked her lips, an action not lost on Aden. His eyes followed her tongue as it slipped back inside her mouth. "I really think-" "Leave it. And you are not to mention it again." At that, her eyes widened slightly. Jack wanted to argue, but decided against it. After all, she needed this job and it would do well for her not to piss him off. "Sure." "Good." He watched as she turned and left the room. Aden shifted in his seat and frowned at the slight stiffness in his groin. The futility of what he was feeling was just another sting to his pride. In his current condition he wasn't doing much of anything, let alone that. But judging by his reaction, his needs had been ignored for far too long. If things were different... well, it didn't matter. The situation was what it was. He needed to remember that. *** It looked like her new patient was going to be loads of fun. Not only did he have an attitude, but he also spoke to her like she was some kind of child. If their brief exchange was a precursor for future meetings, then she was not looking forward to tomorrow at all. Jack groaned. And why did he have to be so damn good looking? Is it really necessary for any man to be that handsome? She'd seen hot guys before, but none of them struck her like he had. Those eyes of his for one, they were too green and way too intense. A slight shudder ran through her as she recalled the way they stayed glued to her. Definitely not cool. Though she supposed none of this mattered in the end anyway. She was working for him and that meant there could be nothing but professionalism between them. Not that he had seemed interested. The way he was looking at her, sitting there with a face made of stone, it was clear he wasn't all that excited about having her arrival. Oh well, on the plus side, he wasn't being cheap when it came to her compensation. Jack smiled as she headed toward her room to put her things away. At least the money was something to look forward to. Sounds from the kitchen drew her attention as she walked back through the living room towards the stairs. No one else was staying in the house, so it had to be Merced. She paused at the thought. He cooked? She almost laughed at that. He didn't seem anywhere near that kind of guy. However, when she walked through the door to investigate, he had just finished arranging chicken breasts in a dish on the counter. Merced looked up, surprised to see her there. "Miss Devons. Is there something I can get you?" He began to deftly cut up potatoes. "No, I don't need anything," she smiled. "But please, call me Jack. There's no need to be formal." "As you wish... Jack," Merced responded while placing the potatoes in a bowl. She watched him continue to move around the kitchen. "I have to say, you don't seem like the kind of guy who cooks." His eyes filled with something akin to humor, "Looks are naturally deceiving." Not sure how to respond to that, she continued, "So aside from kitchen duty, what else do you do around here?" "I act as Aden's personal assistant," Merced answered, greatly downplaying his role. He pulled a variety of seasonings from the cabinet and lined them up near the stove. Jack observed the way he absently tucked a silver strand behind his ear, all at once struck by how young he looked. "Can I ask you a personal question, Merced?" His brows knitted in confusion before he answered her, like he didn't quite understand what she meant. "Yes, of course." Jack paused before going on. She knew better than to grill people she just met, but she was so curious. "How old are you?" Merced smiled widely at her, "I am 20." He went back to chopping the rest of the potatoes, amused by her question. Everyone thought he was too young to have advanced as far as he had, but none of them could doubt his abilities. After all, there was a reason the King handpicked him for this particular operation. Jack regarded Merced silently for a moment, and then plowed ahead. "Do you and Aden know each other well?" Silver eyes flicked to hers. "We attended school together." It was Jack's turn to look confused. How was that even possible? "I see," said Jack. That wasn't entirely true, but she wasn't going to press. Merced pulled some carrots from the refrigerator and began slicing them but stopped soon after to vigorously massage his wrists. That's when Jack noticed the bracelets. They were extremely shiny and looked almost as if they glowed. "Are you alright?" Jack asked. Merced's eyes were closed and his fingers had started to dig deeper into his flesh. His eyes opened suddenly, and right before he answered her, Jack could have sworn the orbs were pitch black a second or two before returning to their normal color. "I'm fine," and almost as an afterthought he added, "I think all the chopping must have gotten to me." "Yeah," she was still trying to figure out if what she saw actually happened, "okay." Something was definitely odd. Merced went on like nothing happened and began pulling what looked like ingredients for a salad from the refrigerator. Jack suddenly realized all the time she was standing there she never once volunteered to help. Normally her manners were better than that, but the whole day was really throwing her off. Her belated offer was kindly refused with the suggestion she go relax and unpack. Jack made to leave, but was stopped by Merced's question. "Will you be joining us for dinner?" In a rush, thoughts of Aden popped in her head. "Uh, no. Not tonight." The last thing she wanted to do was attempt to eat with him nearby. "If you don't mind, you can just wrap something up for me and I'll come get it later." Merced smiled almost to himself. "Of course." Jack left the kitchen and finally made it to her room. Her things were relatively easy to unpack having only a few pair of pants and a couple of lightweight tunics. Her toiletries were minimal as well; she was never one to spend a lot of money on so-called 'beauty' products. The only item that gave her trouble was the small leather pouch she'd tucked into her bag at the last minute. It wasn't something she enjoyed being close to for very long, so she quickly decided the closet was the best place for it. Hopefully she wouldn't even need it, but being prepared never hurt anyone. Once that was done, the drowsiness hit her full force. Jack was barely able to stumble back to the bed before the sweet warmth of sleep claimed her. *** When Jack opened her eyes it seemed like the headache worsened. She winced at the pain as she slowly sat up. Dammit. Obviously she'd held on to it longer than she was supposed to. Her weakness was disappointing. How the hell could she ever use it if she couldn't even touch it without passing out? She sighed as she stood up. Her grandmother would say she needed more practice, but without her guidance, the learning process was slow and awkward. That was something to worry about later, right now though, she needed to get rid of the ache in her head. Jack stood up straight and took a deep breath before closing her eyes. As usual she could see where the pain was concentrated, right at her temples. She could visualize the tiny dots as they throbbed over and over again; the number was more than she was used to. She focused on each source of discomfort, one dot at a time, and willed them to disintegrate. It always took a lot of effort, so much so that she wasn't surprised when her heart quickened and a cold sweat broke out. Once she managed to get down to a dull twinge she stopped; going any further was just begging for trouble, and already she was tired... and hungry. It had been a while since she last ate. Immediately images of Merced's cooking flitted before her. Chicken, potatoes, carrots -- that sounded like pretty good fare. She tried not to make any noise as she crept along the hallway to the top of the stairs. When she reached the bottom, she breathed a sigh of relief. The rest of the way to the kitchen was easy enough; already her stomach was grumbling in anticipation. Just as she took the step to bring her closer to her meal, her ears picked up something that stopped her. Jack listened closely and tried to make out what sounded like muffled talking. She slowly followed the sound until she was just outside the door next to the gym. It was funny how she hadn't noticed it before. The door was slightly ajar and when she peeked in she saw Aden talking to someone on some sort of video screen. "I didn't think I'd hear from you, brother." His voice sounded tired and Jack thought she picked up a bit of irritation as well. "Yes well, father is making it difficult for any of us to contact you." Jack frowned at hearing this then felt badly about her eavesdropping. She knew what she was doing was wrong. Part of her was afraid to move and risk getting caught, and another part of her was just plain old curious. "I see. Are you disobeying orders, Adrian?" His brother laughed, "Probably. But what the old man doesn't know won't hurt him. Besides, I want to know how you're doing." Aden sighed and shook his head. "Your willfulness will surely get you into trouble one day." His brother snorted, "Unlikely. Now tell me, are you well?" "I am. The physical therapist arrived today, we begin early tomorrow." Jack took offense at the way he said that, like her very presence bothered him. It wasn't like he was so great to be around either. "Do you really think he'll be of any use to you? The nature of your injury..." His voiced trail off and Jack desperately wanted him to elaborate. "I am doubtful, and the 'he' is a woman." This he practically spat out, too. Jack resisted scoffing out loud at his tone. There was a pause before Adrian responded. "A woman, huh?" he laughed again, "You do so well with them. Is she pretty?" "Does it matter?" Aden's annoyance was palpable. Jack guessed his brother was grinning by now. "To you, I suppose it wouldn't. But the rest of us males take an interest in things like that." Aden rubbed his forehead and changed the subject, "Is there any news?" Jack heard Adrian clear his throat before he answered. "They might have found the one who attacked you. He's dead, but they don't think it was murder." Aden visibly tensed. "What are they saying?" Outside in the hall, Jack's eyes were wide as saucers. "The scientists think the amount of power he acquired so quickly caused him to implode." Jack put a hand over her mouth in case she made a sound. Power? Implode? What on Earth were they talking about? "Disturbing," Aden was silent for a moment. "I wanted the pleasure of killing him myself." "I know. I think we all wanted a piece of him." Adrian exhaled, "You're missed, you know." Aden looked uncomfortable at his brother's admission and adjusted himself in his chair. "Are the men staying in line?" "It looks that way, though Andrew doesn't work them as hard as you do." "Of course not," Aden sounded almost amused -- something Jack didn't think was possible, "he thinks I'm too rough on them. No doubt they find his routine a vacation compared to mine." There was sudden noise in the background right before Adrian hurriedly spoke. "It seems our conversation must be cut short. I will speak to you again in a few days." As soon as he was done, there was a loud beep and the light from the screen went out. Jack was trying to figure out a way to sneak away and put together all she'd heard. It was dead quiet now that the brothers ended their conference, which meant there was no sound to cover any creaky floorboards she might accidentally step on. Crap. Why hadn't she just walked away earlier? What possessed her to stay rooted to the spot? She glanced in the room and saw Aden still facing away from her. Okay, she could do this. All she had to do was put one foot in front of the other and make her escape. Jack took a tentative step away from the door. As she placed her foot down and prepared to make another move, the worst thing possible happened: she was reminded of why she came downstairs in the first place. Her stomach growled. Loudly. As quick as lightening Aden was suddenly facing her, eyes glowing bright green. Jack didn't have time to question what that could mean before she felt like someone dunked her in a vat of ice water. She was freezing, and even more disconcerting, she couldn't move! She tried to make her feet work, but the more she tried to get away the colder she got. She felt like something was sucking the life right out of her. What was happening to her? The coldness was rapidly seeping through her skin, attacking her insides and making her numb all over. Then Jack heard Aden's voice, calm and deadly. "What the hell are you doing out here?" Secrets and Magic Ch. 02 Hey everyone! Yes, it has taken me forever to update. My computer crashed and I lost everything, so that was a HUGE setback. But anyway, thanks for the wonderful feedback on Chapter 1 and all your votes. I hope you guys enjoy Chapter 2 and show me the same love you did last time! Secrets and Magic Ch. 02 "The paralyzing spell." Of course. The paralyzing spell. He stirred in his chair, "Where I come from it's used as a basic defense to buy time." "Ah." There wasn't a whole lot she could think of to say. Jack wanted to be angry at him for temporarily taking her out of commission, but if she were honest with herself, the situation was more her fault than his. Dammit. "In the future," the earlier chill was back in his voice, "Avoid lurking in places you don't belong." Aden's tone grated on Jack's nerves. Okay, she got it. She was wrong. Did he have to keep rubbing her nose in it? And to think, she'd been on the brink of apologizing. Ha. Definitely not now. Jack cocked an eyebrow in his direction, "Are you always like this or am I special?" "Am I always like what?" The calm way he answered really rattled her chains. Forgetting her soreness and state of undress, Jack swung her legs over the side of the bed and positioned herself on its edge. Their knees were almost touching. "You were incredibly rude the first time we met and you're not much better now." Yes, he was her employer and could fire her at will. And yes, he could easily zap her with something to shut her up, but that felt good to say. Aden leaned forward, his eyes brighter than before. "Be careful of what you say to me." She didn't heed his warning. Instead, Jack barreled along head first, "Oh I see. I'm supposed to pick and choose what I say to you, but you get to speak to me any way you please?" She rolled her eyes, "I don't think so." Jack vaguely noticed the tensing of his jaw and the death like grip he had on the arms of his chair. Who did he think he was? She absently tucked another curl behind her ear and got ready to correct him on a few other matters. Her mouth opened to launch an attack, but nothing ever came. It took her a second to realize what was happening and when she did, it was too late. Aden's tongue had already found hers and was forcing it into submission. His hands rose to hold her in place and he deepened the kiss. Instantly her lust flared up. Jack knew she should stop it, tear herself away and maybe even slap him, only the sudden rush of heat was too thick. The sensation started in her belly and swirled outward, warming her skin and throwing her head into a fog. Aden explored her expertly, leaving in his wake a taste of darkness, danger, and excitement. Jack sighed into his mouth and let the invasion continue. She wanted this, had been wanting it since she first met him. She'd wondered what his full lips felt like, and now she would never forget. Aden massaged her tongue now, slowly, leisurely taking his fill of her. Jack moaned and moistness built between her legs. Had it ever been like this with anyone else? She couldn't remember and didn't want to. All that was important was right in front of her, feasting on her own matched desire. Her hands tentatively reached up and buried themselves in his hair. Aden groaned at the action and gasped, giving her the chance to slip inside him this time. He had a flavor that was all his and it was magnificent. Jack grew intoxicated as she ventured further, intent on learning more. She licked and sucked at him until she was light-headed from lack of air. Jack pulled back to take a much needed breath and almost reluctantly, her hands ceased reveling in the smoothness of his locks. Her eyes met his, but Aden's didn't look right. Instead of being the usual green, they were pitch black. They gazed at one another, each of them with chests rising and falling rapidly. "Your eyes..." Jack spoke as hers darted back and forth between his, trying to make sure what she was seeing was real. He looked unsettling. Aden stared at her, seeming both human and not. "I must go." He began to roll backwards. "But-" Jack slid off the bed and took a step in his direction. "No!" The harshness of his voice startled her and she stopped where she was. "It is best you stay away from me right now." He turned around and left, closing her door without ever having touched it. Jack stood rooted to the spot a few moments before walking over to her window. The breeze had calmed down and was now blowing just enough to ruffle the hem of her shirt. To anyone observing her it would appear she was just enjoying the view, but she didn't feel nearly as relaxed as she looked. Inside, her mind was all over the place. How was she supposed to process all that? How could anyone? She rubbed her lower back as she watched the blue water rush in to drift over the sand. A few days ago, her life made sense. But now, that was too much to ask. She was staying in a house with two men who were clearly more than they let on, one of whom apparently didn't dislike her as much as she'd thought. Aden had kissed her for god sakes, and in turn, she'd kissed him right back. Jack touched her lips and shuddered. There had been something there when they'd touched. She couldn't identify it, but the feeling would have consumed her if she hadn't stopped. The scary thing was, she'd wanted to lose herself in it. How easy it would have been to just let herself go, to get lost in him. And what about his eyes? Had there been any doubt about Aden telling her the truth, which there wasn't, seeing his eyes change color like that sealed it. He'd looked like a man entrenched in some internal battle. Jack sighed. Aden was becoming more question than answer by the second. The sooner she could leave, the better. Secrets and Magic Ch. 03 It has been a while hasn't it? I'll save all of my explanations and simply say: Thanks for reading and I hope you enjoy this (albeit late) update! Please remember to vote and, as usual, all comments [the good, the bad, and the ugly] are very much appreciated. :-) Secrets and Magic Ch. 03 Finally, breaking the kiss, Zechariah watched as Tomas's eyes fluttered open. The orbs were full of want and desire. Just as quickly as he was gentle, Zechariah tightened his hands in the silky ringlets and pulled until Tomas let out a wince of pain. His nostrils flared at the sound, kicking things up a notch. "Beautiful," Zechariah whispered, "Absolutely beautiful..." He sharply pulled Tomas's hair one more time before trailing a hand down the young man's heaving chest and across his stomach to settle on the stiffness between his legs. There he curled his fingers and gently stroked through the material of the robe. Tomas's mouth fell open as bands of pleasure wove their way around him. His hands dug into Zechariah's biceps as he struggled to steady himself. Of their own accord, his hips began to move in rhythm with each caress and a loud moan filled the room. "Please..." The man's plea tickled Zechariah's ears and he smiled. "What is it you ask for?" Zechariah tightened his grip and stroked a little faster. Tomas closed his eyes as his head fell back, completely overtaken by the sensation. He gasped again and his whole body shook as a particular spot was hit. He tried to answer, but couldn't. Zechariah walked them over to his bed and stopped long enough to undress them both. He laid Tomas across and surveyed his flushed skin caught up in the passion of his body. Positioning himself alongside him, he couldn't fight the jolt of their skin-on-skin contact. Leaning down, Zechariah kissed inside the crook of Tomas's neck, eliciting more delicious sounds. Again his hand cupped Tomas and he stroked, this time slowly... teasingly. The young man's body arched in surrender as his hands clutched the sheets. "Yes..." "What do you need, Tomas?" Zechariah's voice was quiet. "You," he sucked in a breath as Zechariah brushed his fingers against his sack, "I need you." "Do you?" His hand squeezed Tomas's cock making him buck, "But are you ready for me?" "Yes... Please..." On the tail of those words, Zechariah rolled Tomas onto his stomach. He straddled the slender hips as his hand rubbed his own length. He closed his eyes briefly in pleasure and anticipation then opened them. Quietly reciting a spell, he called forth oil to form on the tips of his fingers. He took some and covered his cock in it then gently pressed between Tomas's cheeks until he found what he was searching for. Beneath him, Tomas went rigid, pressing his face into the mattress. Zechariah teased the opening, reveling in the way it stretched around and sucked his fingers. Content with his preparations, Zechariah spread Tomas open with one hand and grasped his cock with the other. He lined up with Tomas's sweet entrance and pressed forward. Both men moaned at the action. All the way in he went until his entire cock was enveloped in warmth. Zechariah paused, giving Tomas a chance to adjust. But only a moment. "On your knees," Zechariah managed to get out between gritted teeth. His fingers pressed deep into Tomas's skin as he hoisted him up. He pushed his hips in further making sure he was deep inside before withdrawing and slamming back in. "Ahh..." Tomas cried out, brutally filled to the brim. A crease appeared between his brows as he squeezed his eyes closed and accepted Zechariah. He was used to this; his master would never be completely gentle. "So good..." Zechariah spread his legs for better leverage and drove into the smaller man again and again. His cock was hugged and pulled in deep with every thrust. Reaching around Tomas, he began to stroke him - only this time there was no teasing. He murmured a string of words and his hand grew especially warm and soft as it worked up and down Tomas's cock. Blonde curls fell forward as Tomas let his head drop. Zechariah only stroked him faster as his fucking picked up speed. Zechariah watched as Tomas edged closer and closer. He heard every sound his servant made – every moan... every whispered plea. He would oblige him. He saw the tell-tale strand of saliva fall from Tomas's mouth as he was overwhelmed. Moaning out loud as his own body was saturated in pleasure; he withdrew completely then forced Tomas back onto his cock. A sharp cry reached his ears and it was almost too much for him. His hand rubbed Tomas faster as he took him. Soon the youthful body began to shake as the tension built and expanded. "I want it, Tomas," Zechariah thrust in as hard as he could, "Give it to me." There was a deep groan and sudden shudder as Tomas came all over his hand. Every gush was coupled with a defeated moan as he did just what his Master ordered. When the shudders subsided, Zechariah twisted his coated hand in Tomas's hair and yanked his head back. He was rough then, pounding into him hard and uncompromisingly. "So full, Tomas... you are going to be so full." Zechariah slid deep into Tomas, air hissing past his teeth as his body jerked at the absolute pinnacle of everything. He grunted harshly as his cock exploded, flowing in hot spurts. In the aftermath he continued to rock his hips, his body sensitive to the remnants of pleasure. He eventually withdrew from Tomas and lied down next to him. The air filled with their heavy breathing. Moments later, Zechariah rolled on his side away from what he had done – what he couldn't help but do – and spoke, "There is much to be done. Get out." Secrets and Magic Ch. 03 The man behind her clucked in approval, "It's not often we see the Ca'lai in battle. The King chose wisely. Most impressive." Jack shuddered at his voice as another chill coursed through her. But his words weren't lost on her. 'The King chose wisely?' What did he mean by that? She risked a glance at the man behind her and was able to make out long blonde hair. She licked her lips and began to speak, "W-who-" "Shh!" The man interrupted her. "Let's see what happens." Merced was - much like his opponent - breathing heavily. His eyes remained glowing and his face had yet to lose its calm expression. The man swung again, but changed tactics and followed through with a solid punch to the face. As Merced's head flew back the man moved out of striking distance and fired a blast from his weapon. Miraculously, Merced was able to leap out of the way, but not before sending a blast directly from his hands to hit his adversary square in the chest. The opposition, caught off guard, flew back with his rod dropping from his hands. Merced was on him a second later. There was the sickening sound of fist tearing through flesh then silence. "Astounding," the man finally stepped from behind her. He spoke more to himself than to Jack, "I wonder if we can use him." A beat passed before Merced shakily stood and faced them. He wiped blood from the corner of his mouth. The blonde man spoke, "You're a strong one. You've managed to kill all my men," he laughed without a trace of humor, "Perhaps I should be after you and not the Prince." At that he pretended to look around, "Speaking of which, where is Aden?" "That is no concern of yours." The man frowned, drawing Jack's attention to the blacks of his eyes, "Hmm," he appeared to think, "I suppose he's in that room with the sealed door." There was a pause, "Though I'm curious; why would the First Prince have a need to hide behind such a thing?" Jack gasped. Aden was a Prince? No... he couldn't be. A churning sensation started in her stomach. "You will not get to him," Merced's voice was even. The blonde took a step forward and Jack saw him smile, "You were entertaining to watch, but I grow tired." Without warning he formed a ball with his hands and shot a bright blue orb forward. As expected, Merced easily dodged it. The orb stopped in the air where Merced had been moments before and began to pulse. It wasn't clear anything was happening until Merced groaned and crumbled to his knees. The man laughed, "Nice try, but it doesn't matter. Even without a direct hit, your energy will still be sucked dry. Every. Last. Drop." "This... is...," Merced fought to speak as he closed his eyes in obvious pain, "Forbidden..." "Is it?" This was said on a snicker. "Perhaps you should stop me," the man feigned concern, "but it seems you're quite indisposed at the moment." Jack tried to move again, to do anything, but her feet were still rooted to the spot. She watched as Merced eventually toppled over on his side. More tears formed as her friend suffered before her very eyes and she realized how helpless she was. His body twitched as more and more was taken from him. Fear and loathing grew stronger as she witnessed his eyes lose their glow. She angrily swiped the moisture from her face and eyed the enemy. He seemed to watch the scene intently until Merced finally stopped moving. This wasn't happening. Aden was somewhere between life and death and now Merced was gone. Jack balled her fists. Bastard. "Now then," the tone was conversational, "Why are you here?" Jack didn't answer; instead she just stared at him. He sighed, "Everyone has to be difficult." Before she knew what he was doing, he was in front of her with his hand around her throat. He squeezed his hand and pressed lightly down on her windpipe. Her hands immediately came up to claw at his arm, but he wasn't fazed. "Stop fighting and look at me." When Jack didn't obey he squeezed tighter, cutting off her air entirely before relenting a few moments later. "Look at me," he repeated. This time Jack did as she was told; her fearful gaze met and held his. Something shifted within the void of his eyes and he was inside her. Jack cried out at the spiritual invasion and her whole body jerked. She could feel him everywhere. His hate and anger was in her every pore. He was reading all her thoughts; her feelings; her power. She could feel how the latter intrigued him. He pushed at it, but recoiled in pain when it burned him. Jack wasn't sure what happened but suddenly he was gone. The man stood staring at her suspiciously before he slapped her hard. She let out another cry and cradled her face. "I know what you are," he practically spat at her. Jack braced for another blow, but his demeanor rapidly changed. He went on with a dark smile, "Quite rare. You will do wonders for us." The sound of splintering wood filled the atmosphere and seconds later a green burst of energy sent the blonde man flying. "It will be difficult for her to do much of anything for you, Zechariah," Aden said as he walked further into the room, "because in a few short moments you'll be dead." Jack looked at Aden, eyes blazing as dust from the blast settled around him. She gasped out loud. Walking. He was walking. It worked!
