I can't recall who was all playing as the players collided together onto the field. I was beginning to think I'd need ear surgery after listening to my mother's nonstop chanting of "GO LIMINGTON NUMBER 46!" I had watched my mother take Ray Limington from college star to professional athlete, being I was only eleven. Every individual I looked at was ranting and screaming with mouth's open as far as they could, except for me. Among the cheering people, was Jake, Ray's fourteen year old son. If you have to ask why I was being such a downer, then I'd tell you that my mom had dragged me here on the night of my birthday. The birthday she had promised to take me to dinner on, which would've been her first night off in five years. This all occurred because of Jake Limington. It seemed as if Jake was more her child then I was. Over the years, I had found my mom going to less and less activities of mine and more to Jake's. She had missed my middle school graduation for one of his football practices, my award ceremony for doing the best in county on my state tests for his training, and so on. That was all until my mom died four months ago. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ 8 years later... I was pissed. I was sitting in a dimly lit booth next to the dance floor clicking my black stiletto on the tile impatiently. Jake has an interview at seven tomorrow morning with ESPN and there he was grinding on some slut with fake boobs wearing a slinky black dress at almost midnight. He was a great football player but irresponsible. I was going to beat him up, I thought. Even if it takes a step ladder and a baseball bat to reach all 6'2 and 200 pounds of pure muscle he was. "That's it." I said to myself. I got up, my heels clicking on my way toward him. His green eyes nearly popping out of his head, he knew not to mess with me. "Whoa." He said putting his hands up knowing I would drag him out of this club by his ear if we didn't go now. I walked away knowing he would follow, he did. "You cock blocked me!" He said irritated once we were in the parking lot. "Like you need any more sluts in your bed." "Oh come on, they usually don't stay the night." He said running his hand through his short dark brown hair. "And, that makes it better." I said with a smile while throwing him the keys to his hummer. "They get too pissed at me to stay the night." He mumbled looking down. "What does that mean?" "Nothing." He said quickly. "I am your manager, so I'm managing you, deal with it." I said with a smile. I climbed up into the hummer crossing my legs in the seat. "I'm going to need a bucket of cold water to get you out of bed in the morning." "How about, some coffee by my bed and a loving shake to wake me." "Loving shake my ass, a loving punch in your side is what you will receive." "Ha-aha." He laughed sarcastically, turning up some random rock station. We pulled up to his house twenty minutes later, and for my ears sake he turned down the music. I stayed at Jake's so often I eventually claimed one of his extra bedrooms. Since I lived almost over an hour away, coming to get me every morning was too much hassle so we agreed on this arrangement. I hopped out of his car and followed him to the front door, heels clicking on the stone at each step. I made my way through his dark living room filled with trophies, ribbons, and metals from random sports he excelled at. It was also filled with pictures of my mom holding his arm up after he won a game and of her cheering him on. I threw my purse and shoes into the closet and put on some black cotton shorts and a blue tank and crawled in the bed, falling into the deep sleep I was used to. I rolled over and snuggled into a pillow, to realize it was way too hard to be a pillow. I squinted my sleepy eyes at my so called pillow to realize it was a shirtless chest, and then up to see Jake's sleeping face. I was contemplating on whether to wake him up and demand why he was in my bed just as he rolled over and wrapped his arms around me. He then rubbed his hands up and down my back mumbling "It's okay Alex, I'm here." This caught me off guard, was I calling him or something in my sleep? I wondered. I was too sleepy and decided not to give up the offer of a warm body to snuggle with, back to nothingness. I woke up I didn't know how many hours later when my alarm went off, Jake-less. I stumbled rubbing my eyes toward his bedroom. It was quite obvious he hadn't slept in his bed. He lay on top of the covers on his stomach breathing deeply. I fell back on his bed disturbing him. "Get up." I groaned. "I don't have the energy to fill up a bucket and lug it in here." I whined. Then I knew he was awake because his form shook with laughter. "Get up." I groaned again. "No." He groaned back. "Yes." "No." He whined. "Just get your ass up so I can go get ready." "What if I don't want to?" "Too bad." "I'll sit on you if you don't get up." "Ah! No Alex don't sit on me, NO!" He said sarcastically. "I have guys more than 250 pounds tackle me. You sitting on me doesn't sound too scary." "You asked for it." I stood up on the bed and fell on him. He didn't even make a sound. "I could do push-ups with you on my back." "Sure." I said sarcastically. "I will show you." He pushed me off his back easily then fell into a perfect push-up stance. "Jump on." He encouraged. I sat on his back and crossed my legs as he did ten perfect push-ups. "Ha, you see." "Ha, you see I've gotten you up and you have had your morning exercise." I teased. He turned his head to look up at me and rolled his eyes and shook his head. "You asshole." He whispered then laughed. "Don't be angry because I know you so well, just get ready." I said hopping off. I stood in the studio by the camera watching Jake's interview as he repeatedly flashed his winning smile. While the little brunette girl blushed repeatedly every time he smiled. I will admit he is hot, but that girl did nothing to hide that she thought he was also. A few minutes later he walked toward me with a smile, who couldn't smile back one of his flashy smiles. "I think the girl interviewing you, likes you." I said. "Who doesn't?" I just shook my head. "Right know she is glaring at me with an evil look." "She's just wondering why you get to be around such a stud muffin so often." "Sure..." I laughed. "This will be your first away game since you took over, you excited?" He said not even addressing my laughs as he opened the front door of the studio for me and followed me out. "I know I will be the only girl manager or person there." "Nah, I think Bobby is bringing his girlfriend but both I and he are breaking the no girls rule." He smiled. "Oh, I totally forgot that she was coming. That reminds me, we need to talk about something." I said opening the car door and sliding onto the leather seat. "And, what is this?" He said as he jumped in the opposite side and started the engine. "I need to know why you sleep in my bed at night, and why you haven't told me about it." I said quickly in an even voice. He took a deep breath and let it out. "Jake, you can tell me I'm not mad." "I didn't think you would be mad. " "Just tell me." I said crossing my arms. "Can it wait tell we get back to the house?" "I guess." I said letting out a breath. We pulled into the driveway and walked up to the steps and as soon as the door was closed I asked, "Now will you tell me?" "Yeah." He said walking toward the living room and plopping down on the leather couch and patting the spot beside him. I reluctantly stepped toward him and sat down beside him. "So, at night..." He hesitated. "And..." I said trying to speed him along. "I know that you were close to your mom and everything, I also know that since you have lived here you haven't cried. I think in some kind of weird way you let the bottled up emotion out at night." "What does that mean?" I said eyebrows furrowed. "You kind of move around at night a lot, mumbling different things." "That doesn't explain why you are in there." I said with my arms resting on my chest. "I simply come in there to comfort you and you don't seem to do it if I'm in there. " "Oh, how nice." I said sarcastically rubbing my palm on my forehead. "Wow, you're taking this better than I thought. " "What do you mean?" "Like I said before I haven't seen you cry at all about your mom passing away. So I kind of figured that something like that would finally bring you over the edge to actually grieving, instead of holding it all inside." I stood up. "Over the edge?" I said hands on hips. "If you don't remember the last eight years of my life, I rarely ever saw my mother. She cared about you more than me!" I said turning my back to him, tears beginning to cloud my vision. "Alexia." He said softly standing up. "Don't. I don't want any more of your comfort." I said walking away from him. "Look at me." "No." "Look at me." He demanded a little louder. I turned around and stared directly in his eyes stubbornly even with my eyes a little red and a few tear streaks staining my cheeks. "She cared about you more than anything in the world." He said walking toward me, hands in pockets. "I don't want to hear it." I said turning my back to him again, walking back to my room. I shut the door fiercely and turned the lock so hard as if it were to take back my entire mother-less years. I soon found my bed and plopped down onto the comforter. I sat with my back against the headboard. I tucked my knees under my arms bringing them to my chest. Scooping up my face into my palms, I let the tears fall with no desire of keeping them in. Where did he get the right to tell me I haven't cried enough? I thought. If anyone should be grieving over her it should be him, she practically raised him! My thoughts were cut off by a light tap on my door. "Go away Jake!" I shouted. "Come on, let me in!" "Just go away." I shouted again. "Just let me in!" "No!" "I will break this door!" "Do it." I taunted him. "Alex, just let me in there!" "Why?" "Why? You're upset that's why!" "I don't want any of your comfort, don't you get that?!" "No, let me in!" "You're going to have to break the door." "Fine." I really doubted that Jake would actually do it, but just in case, I slid onto the hard wood floor and crawled under my bed. I then heard him try to ram down the cedar door with all his body weight, only causing the wood to lightly splinter. I can't be sure of what he did next, but the sound of the door's lock giving way and slamming into the wall assaulted my ears. "You are seriously going to hide too." He said after a few moments. "Come out, come out wherever you are." He laughed as he looked in my closet; I was starting to thing I was in a horror movie. Then I watched as his shoes walked by, then a knee came down beside me, then a hand, and finally he poked through the bed skirt revealing his smiling bright face at me. I smiled back of course, that was my curse. "Alex come out from under there, your acting like a child." "No." I said stubbornly. His free arm snaked its way under the bed, grabbing me by the arm, I went limp. Of course, he didn't care as he continued to pull me out from under there like a rag doll. "You're hurting me." "Then you should have just crawled out from under there by yourself." He said as he grabbed me by the waist and stood me upright. "Will you talk about it with me now?" "No." I said beginning to walk away. "Alex." He said grabbing me by the arm once again. "Let me go." I managed to get out as I tried jerking my arm from his grasp. "You're really pissing me off, Alex." He said through clenched teeth, grabbing me by the arm more firmly. "I don't give a fuck." I said attempting to pull away from him again. I sucked in a breath through my teeth. "You're hurting me." I growled. "You're hurting yourself." He growled back. I clutched at his hand in pure reflex to the pain. I tried prying a finger off my arm it seems as if my hand would barely fit around one single finger. "Jake, let-me-go." I snarled. "No." "Jake, you're really hurting me, badly." I said a little bit calmer but still clutching at his hand. I had managed to push him over his edge. His grip loosened but not enough to stop the throbbing. "I'm sorry." He mumbled. Then he let my arm go and ran out of the door way so quickly I barely had time to register that the pressure on my arm had stopped. I looked down at my arm; my whole upper arm was red. I could already see the blue green finger shaped bruises appearing. I really didn't want to focus on the fact my door was dented and propped against my wall, and the throbbing coming from arm. So I threw my suitcase on the bed and began to pack. No matter how furious Jake had made me, he was my client before everything else, so this game was mandatory for me. An hour later I had packed all my essentials and had changed into a pair of dark skinny jeans, a white tank top, and my favorite red heels. I had let my light brown curly hair down from its bun and touched up my make-up. I gathered up my black leather purse and red rolling suitcase and made my way past Jake's room. I caught a glimpse of his back as he was packing his own luggage. I continued my way back down the stairs and through the front door. I threw my bag into the back seat and my purse in the passenger seat and walked back to the house. I opened the front door and ran directly into Jake's stone hard chest. I fell off balance almost falling backward until he grabbed me by the waist, crushing my breasts to his chest. As soon as he knew I had my balance back, he let go of me so fast you would have thought I was on fire. He stepped back, focusing his vision on anything but me. I stepped past him, not sparing him a glance as I jogged back up the stairs. I turned off my lights and walked back down stairs turning off any random lights left on, locked the door, and closed it. I knew Jake would be waiting, he was. I hopped into the seat, closed the door, and crossed my legs and arms. I spotted Jake eyeing my arm out of the corner of my eye. "Look Alex, I'm really sorry." "I know. I pushed you way too far." "But you were acting very childish." "You were acting like a monster. Breaking my door and bruising my arm." "Monster?" He said clenching his jaw while tightening his grip on the wheel, his knuckles turning white. "I'm no monster." He growled. "You're acting like a monster, just like your father." I slurred at him. I heard him take in a sharp breath, as he tried to maintain control. "I will never be like my father." He said through clenched teeth, I wouldn't have been surprised if he broke the steering wheel with the grip he had on it right now. "Never." "Then you have something you need to work on." I said coldly. He laughed; it wasn't a happy laugh by any means. "Alex you really know how to make me so mad." He continued through clenched teeth while tightening and loosing the grip on the wheel. "It is an art form." After this, no more words were exchanged. Jake's death grip on the steering wheel didn't loosen, and the tenseness in the car didn't falter. I stood hunched over the balconies railing, resting my head on my palm trying to take in the fresh night air. I really didn't know what to think about the debacle with Jake, but that didn't matter for the rest of this weekend. He was my client, and nothing else. "Hey, Seth and Lena are here." Jake said as he opened the sliding glass door leaving it open. I turned around and followed him back in. "Hey guys." I smiled. "This in Alexia, but we all just call her Alex." Seth said as he introduced me to Lena. Seth was an all American looking guy with brown hair and green eyes. He stood not as tall as Jake at 5'10, just an inch taller than me. His build was thick and bulky. The slight country accent completed his look. "Hey, I'm Lena." She smiled at me. Lena was pretty; she seemed the average type Seth would go after. She was blonde, had big boobs, and petite. "Hi." I smiled back. "How long have you two been together?" I asked eying them both. "Two months." Seth spoke up. "Cool." I said rocking back and forth on my heels. "Well both of you probably need to get to bed, big game tomorrow. I'll be in the shower." I said patting Jake on the chest. I stood under the hot spray, letting it relax me. Soon, my relaxation was rudely interrupted. "So you're just going to pretend nothing's wrong." Jake said sounding irritated. "Yes, for this weekend at least. Anyways there is really nothing wrong with me. You're the one who thinks I haven't cried enough, you're the one who broke my door, and you're the one who bruised my arm." "Don't pin this all on me, Alex." "Could you get out now? You're bothering the only relaxation I have these days." "No, I need to brush my teeth." "Then brush them and get out." After a few minutes he left and I got out of the shower. I threw on some shorts and a tank top and left the bathroom for Lena and Seth. I turned off the lights and slid under the covers next to Jake. I tried getting as far away from him as the bed edges would let me. I shut my eyes while snuggling my head into a pillow, trying my hardest not to let this happen again tonight. Sasha ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I sat trembling crouched under the kitchen sink listening to Ray throw open the front of our condo door shouting. Hugging my knees to my chest I peeked out between the tiny crack between the two cabinet doors to watch Ray slap my mother causing her to fall to the floor not a foot away from my hiding spot. "Ray don't do this." My mother Heather pleaded her hair tumbled around her face as she stared at the floor. "You bitch!" Ray shouted down at her as she lay on the tile floor. Ray was a bear of a man at 6'2 and easily 250 pounds, there was no doubt in my mind he could hurt her. But, I was frozen in shock and fear. I wanted to jump out from my hiding spot and help my defenseless mother but he had been drinking and wouldn't think twice to throw me across the room either. And then there was the promise I had not made to her five minutes earlier..."No matter what he does to me don't come out, don't!" Her words kept on ringing in my ears. "Ray." She sobbed. "Leave." "After a year of being together you go and so we are over!" He roared."Did you ever really love me?!" "I do love you Ray, just leave." She cried pointing to the door. "I'll talk to you in the morning about this!" Heather cried, tears of anger streaming down her cheeks. "Fine!" Ray stated storming out of the room like a wild bull and slamming the front door behind him. After he left my mother ran out of the kitchen and locked the door, deadbolt, and chain and come running back to the kitchen. Opening the cabinet door she slowly illuminated the cramped space I was huddled in. Never will I forget the first sight of her face after that night, never. "Alex." A soft voice murmured breaking into the walls of my dreaming. I felt a pad of a thumb wipe a stray tear from my cheek and a soft kiss took its place as I floated back to consciousness. "J-Jake?" I asked a little disoriented by my dream that felt way to real. "I'm here." He whispered interlocking his hand with my trembling one. I had blamed Jake for his father's actions for years hating him and dodging him at all cost but as it turned out he blamed himself too. "I-It felt so real." I stated softly pulling the sheets up around me and leaning against him. "Shh." He whispered as he kissed my forehead. "It's okay." Jake knew that I had witnessed his dad push my mom around drunkenly many- a -times and still had nightmares on occasion. But, part of me blamed her...why go back to someone who physical abused you so many times. I was just thirteen at that time and never had experienced the magic of love that made you forgive the ones you love maybe too easily. Sighing I rolled to my side and pressed my face to his well tanned bare chest absorbing his warmth and reveling in the comfort he was offering. Maybe a minute later the ringing of the alarm clock drew a groan from my throat as I was almost back to nothingness. The ringing abruptly stopped as Seth slapped the off button and hopped out of bed. "Rise and Shine!" Seth instructed standing in front of his bed clad in only his boxers doing a series of stretches. Meandering over to the blinds he pulled them open blinding us all. "Who wants coffee?" He asked cheerfully moved about the room at top speed like a morning fairy. "Go back to sleep." Jake groaned shifting beneath me without letting my hand go he grasped the nearest pillow one handed and catapulted it at his head. "Hey!" Seth exclaimed as it bounced off the back of his head. "Come back to bed with me." Lena smiled seductively winking at him. "I can't resist that invite." Seth smiled broadly literally hopping into bed that followed by giggling and kissing sounds. "Jake?" I whispered looking up at him. "Hmm?" He answered not opening his eyes. "I'm sorry." At that he opened his eyes and looked down at me with the most amused look in his eyes. "For what?" He nearly chuckled wanting to hear me say it, that bastard. "Over reacting." I mumbled grumpily. But, I was still pressed into him greedily stealing his warmth. Slowly a grin spread across his face and he smiled down at me. "I accept your apology." He smiled looking far too happy. At that I forced myself to leave Jakes warmth and slide out of bed to the bathroom. Closing the door I hoped up on the counter and buried my face into my hands. I wanted so badly to groan in frustration. I was just, just so confused about Jake. I hated him so much when I was younger and now I was starting to like him. There I said it 'like him'. It killed by soul to say it. But it was so true. The rest of the morning flew by as I avoided eye contact with Jake at all costs. Before I knew it I was waiting for Jake after the game. If there is one think I dislike about Jake Limington the most is when he wins a football game. Oh how I hate how he acts like a cocky ass after the games. I smiled at him as he approached me in full gear holding his helmet under his right arm. I sighed. I could already see the arrogant glint in his green eye. My smile quickly turned to a frown as Jenna approached from behind him to jump onto his back and kiss his cheek. Jenna was a cheerleader for his team and she was absolutely gorgeous. She was maybe 5'4 with long black hair and sky blue eyes that were staring at me at the moment with a look that could only be describes as 'he's mine'. I turned around and marched out of there. I really didn't want to see Jenna hanging on him for the rest of the night. He could go fuck her for all I cared. Did I care? I groaned inwardly, I so cared. Maybe I should go find me someone to fuck, I smiled to myself. I smiled wickedly as I put on a pair of skin tight black skinny jeans, black heels, and black tank top. As I strode down stairs I could barely contain my enjoyment. Was I doing this all to make Jake jealous? Probably. Did I care? No. I was playing with fire. I was heading to the hotel's bar, were everyone was going to hang out after the game and maybe even a few players. All I had to do was walk in there and sit down at the bar to grab attention. My eyes nearly bugged out of my head at my first taker as he strolled over to me from a table. He was the quarterback of the team they had player earlier today! Sleeping with him would be SO bad! I liked it. "I'm Logan," He smiled sliding into the stool next to me. Logan Decca was a fine male specimen; he stood about 5'11 with dark brown eyes and black shaggy hair. He would due. "Alex." I grinned back at him. "What are you doing here tonight?" He began attempting to make conversation. Logan was a player, and I knew it but I was playing him tonight. "I was at the game, and then decided to come here for a drink." I smiled flirtatiously. "Oh, you saw me then." He raised an eyebrow. "I think the other team cheated." He joked staring at me with those dark eyes. "I'm sure they did." I said slowly joking right along with him. That's when I heard it and couldn't help but turn my head. Sitting directly behind Logan and I in a table was Jake and Jenna. Oh Jake looked so angry; his eyes were fixed right on mine as I smirked at him. But, hey Jenna was sitting right next to him a hand on his leg. I had a right to for revenge. Turning my attention back to Logan I smiled again. "So, tell me a little something about how you got into football?" I knew as soon as I asked about football, it was on. I knew most guys could talk hours about it. "Well, it all started when I was a boy-." At that I tuned him out and get stealing glances at Jake, whose eyes never left me the whole time. I was going to have fun with this, I thought to myself. Reaching over I set a hand on Logan's leg that was placed way to high and laughed at every joke he made. Jake was fuming as I peeked behind me his hands were clenched into fists and his lips were hard lines. That's when Logan's hand moved to lay its self on my knee and when I heard Jake snap as he shoved his chair in and strode over to us as I continued laughing at Logan's jokes. "Alex." He nearly growled. "Oh, hi Jake. How are you?" I smiled knowing how angry he was. "You know damn well how I am." He snarled his fists still balls at his sides. "Whoa man. She hasn't done anything to you." Logan stuck up for me. "You have-." Jake begun. "I'm sorry Logan." I smiled at him giving him a kiss on the cheek. "I got to go cool him down." I said hugging him. "Bye." I strode away knowing Jake would follow. Climbing up the stairs I could hear him behind me. Even as I slid my room key out of my pocket he didn't say a thing, but I could feel his anger. Not until the door was closed did he finally explode. "What the fuck were you doing with that guy Alex!? You probably wanted to go fuck him, didn't you?" He snarled. But I just crossed by arms and leaned against the wall as he continued, "And the Quarterback of the opposing team! How could you!?" I really couldn't think of anything to say, maybe something like 'to make you jealous.' But, I wasn't going to say that. Jake still looked so angry. He was nearly shaking with rage. Before I knew what I was doing I took a step forward causing Jake to bump into the other wall in this narrow hallway. But, I took another step forward and before he had time to react my lips were against his and my arms had made their way around his neck. My body was pressed to his greedily, flattening my breasts again his chest. When Jake finally reacted it wasn't the reaction I expected. I thought he would push be off of him or say 'we can't'. But, his anger quickly shifted to desire as he kissed me back and wrapped his arms around my waist and pressed me into him even more. My hands were fisted in his dark brown hair now as he spun me around to press my back against the wall as he growled into my mouth. His lips felt so warm and soft as he nipped at my bottom lip causing me to open my mouth to his probing tongue. His hands drifted down to cup my ass and lift me up to wrap my legs around his waist. I could feel the hard knot that was confined in his jeans now that was rubbing against my own jean clad crotch. I raked my nails down his back as he continued probing my mouth and suckling my bottom lip. My body was on fire, I WANTED him. That scared me half to death. That's when we heard it the sliding of a key card into the slot. Unwillingly Jake ripped his lips from mine panting and looking at me with desire in his eyes. But he quickly grabbed my hand and pulled me around the corner before Seth and Lena could see us breathing heavily and staring into each other's eyes. Pulling me into the bathroom he shut the door and moved to sit on the toilet. I moved toward him and sat straddling his legs and went in for another kiss. But, he stopped me by standing up. "I-, "He began but I stormed out to see a smiling Lena and Seth as they both lay on their bed flipping channels and laughing. But they quickly stopped as I flew from the bathroom followed by Jake. But, I still kept on going tell I was outside on the balcony and I slammed it in his face. But that didn't deter him from opening it right back up and stepping out and closing it again. "Alex." He pleaded looking at her with eyes full of concern. "Don't." I murmured cutting him off. But he still planned to as he walked over to me and engulfed me in his arms. I wasn't going to fight him as I pressed my cheek to his chest. "What I was going to say was that 'I didn't want to make love to you on the bathroom floor'. If it would have gone any further neither of us would have the luxury of location." I was so confused. I hated him, the liked him, and now I lusted after him; my head hurt. But, it felt so right in his arms. "Just hug it out!" Seth laughed peeking his head through the cracked of the sliding glass door. "Shut up!" Jake growled but didn't turn to look at him as he kept on holding me. At last I released him avoiding eye contact again. But Jake turned back around and using his pointer finger lifted my chin forcing me to look into his green eyes. Slowly he descended upon me just sliding his lips over mine. Then he just turned around and left, bastard. The Quarterback's Only Weakness Ch. 02.5 Hi (: This half chapter in more of a stepping stone for Chapter 3. But, I hope you like it. Any feedback, ratings, or comments are always helpful; since I want to continue to improve my writing for anyone that reads. - Sasha ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I lay on my side of the bed huddled into a small ball, attempting to resist my urge to scoot over and press my face into Jake's chest. It was like a craving, an itch that couldn't be scratched, but it was worse than any physical discomfort. It was an emotional need to be comforted in my scrambled and confused state of mind. I had kissed Jake last night, if even such a word could be used to describe that experience. I felt, I felt so guilty. I was full of regret. Yet, if I could go back in time I wouldn't change a thing. My body, mind, and heart were having an epic battle in my head actually creating physical pain. My body wanted him. While my head's rebuttal was the fact it was morally wrong, I had nearly grown up with him and worked for him. Then there was my heart that wanted him also, but in a completely opposite way. I wanted to scream! I sighed and let myself untangle to a normal sleeping position. Closing my eyes tightly I tried to force the sleep to overwhelm me, but Jake was too close. That was when to my dismay he mumbled something in his sleep and scooted closer to me wrapping an arm around my waist while pulling me to him. In a momentary lapse of judgment I gave into that craving and pressed my cheek into his warm chest and moaned in contentment, as his arm tightened around me. No! My mind revolted. I couldn't help it, it's like my body separated from my mind for a minute. Begrudgingly my body gave in, as I slowly slipped from Jake's grasp. Grumbling his disapproval he reached out blindly for me again, but I rolled over and slipped as far as possible away from him. He got the message as he mumbled something incoherent as he roughly grabbed a pillow and stuffed it under his head. Coming up on all fours with the covers tumbling off of me I peeked over Jake's shoulder at the alarm clock that read: 7:09. I couldn't go back to sleep now, that alarm clock was about to go off in a minute. I barely had time to fall back onto the bed before my ear drums were greeted with the sound of a series of annoying beeps. Once again Seth hopped out of his bed like he never was asleep as he turned off the alarm in the process. I was so not in the mood as I slipped out of the bed and into the bathroom before Seth could start stretching. An hour or so later I sat in the passenger side of Jake's car. I had said maybe three words to him since this morning. I was beginning to feel kind of bad. I was the one who kissed him. But, why did he have to be so damn appealing? "Alex?" Jake grumbled sounding irritated. "What do you want?" I asked calmly. For once I was actually trying to avoid provoking Jake's temper. "Why are you mad at me?" He inquired. His deep voice sounding troubled as his eyes focused on the road intently. "I'm not." I answered truthfully still staring out the window. He chuckled darkly. "Don't lie to me." "I'm not lying." I mumbled. "Don't insult me." He spoke through clenched teeth, the grip on the wheel getting tighter and tighter. That was exactly like Jake; being sad was never an emotion that he would choose, it was always anger. "Jake." I murmured finally turning to look at him, my eyebrows furrowed. "I'm not mad at you." I restated crossing my arms. "Then what the hell's wrong with you?" He snapped. "I'll talk to you about it when we get back." I replied moving to stare out the window once again, shutting him out. I was really trying to buy some time. What was I going to say to him? Our relationship had taken a weird turn. Before we just drifted by day to day just talking about work and nothing more, but now it was complicated. I just continued to stare out the window thinking, not really feeling the hour tick by as the silence stayed. Unfortunately before I knew it we had pulled up to Jake's two story Victorian style house and the time was slipping through my fingers. God damn it, I didn't want to talk to him! Slipping my purse over my shoulder I stole a glance at him. He still looked angry with his jaw clenched and his lips a hard line. Sighing I pulled my red suitcase out of the back seat and made my way up the stone walk way. I could literally feel Jake's emerald green eyes boring into the back of my head. Once in my bedroom I fell back on my bed and groaned audibly staring up at the ceiling. What was I going to say? Putting on my best soldier face I straightened my clothes I stood up ready to face Jake. I marched down the stairs barefoot my own lips now a hard line. But of course Jake stood leaned up against the banister waiting for me. "Are you going to tell me what's wrong with you now?" He snarled staring me right in the eyes with fury. "Not if you don't settle down." I stated walking down the last few step to stand in front of him. "I'm fine." He growled in his best 'calm' voice. I stared up at him with soft eyes watching his jaw clench and unclench. I turned and walked away from him, he was still way to upset. I couldn't talk to him like this. I heard the soft growl that followed my retreat. "So you're going to start that again." He mumbled and turned away himself. "Start what again!" I shot back at him spinning back around. "Why can't you just talk to me?!" "Why?!" I snapped."Maybe because I don't know how I feel!" ` "That's just another excuse." He snapped. UGH! He was so infuriating; I wanted to punch him in the face! "Do you know what? " I shouted at him as I closed the distance between us. "Maybe I don't know how I feel!" I restated poking him hard in the chest with my pointer finger causing him to stumble back an inch. "Maybe I'm confused!" I yelled poking him again. "Have you thought about that, hmm?!" I poked him again. Now Jake looked really pissed as he just stared at the finger that was stabbing him. This must have looked pretty funny to anyone that was watching; I was repeatedly causing the six foot two, broad shouldered and muscular star quarterback to stumble back as I yelled at him. Slowly Jake's eyes moved to meet mine. He kissed me, hard. This time making me stumble back as his arm snaked themselves around me to stop my backwards fall. My body reacted before my mind did as I pressed into him, crushing my breasts to his firm chest. My hands had already found their way around his neck as I kissed him back. He was nipping at my bottom lip encouraging me to part my lips. I moaned unintentionally allowing him the access. He tasted like the mint tooth paste he used only an hour and a half ago. It was going too far again. The kiss was becoming hungrier full of desire and my body was reacting; wanting more. I had to stop this. I pressed my palms to his chest trying to push him off of me. But he was mistaking this gesture as passion as his hand moved lower to grip my thighs and lift me easily, wrapping my legs around his waist. The hell with it! I thought, as the hands that were pushing him away were fisted in his shirt pulling him closer. No! I thought again trying to control my body's reaction to him. "Jake." I groaned into his mouth. But once again his thoughts opposed mine as he pressed my back into the entrance ways wall. Then I was lost again in the feel and the taste of him. His lips trailed from my own, kissing and nipping lightly down my jaw line and neck. "Surprise!" A deep voice nearly matching Jake's shouted from the now ajar front door. Jake stopped immediately as he instantly recognized the voice. His head shot up at the same moment my own jerked to look. Standing in the doorway was Ray Limington. The Quarterback's Only Weakness Ch. 03 Authors Note: I don't even know how long it's been since I've written for this story. So, I though better late than never. Enjoy! SSG __ It felt as if my whole body was on fire and my body was craving him in a way that wasn't entirely comfortable. I just wanted him to finish what he started this time, but he couldn't, even if he wanted to. Yet, every single pleasurable feeling brought on by Jake had instantly disappeared at the site of Ray. Ah, Ray Limington. The bastard didn't look a day older. He still was that bear, with those same paws for hands that nearly won him the Super Bowl all those years ago. He was just a bulky man, with the same emerald green eyes as Jake and dark brown hair that was beginning to be peppered with grey. He laughed. "Whoa," He smiled covering his eyes and putting an arm out in front of him as he dropped the suitcase he held onto the wood floor. Instantly Jake set me back on the ground as I reached and smoothed his shirt where I had a hold of it. "Dad...I-we were just-" "Let me guess." Ray laughed looking genuinely amused as he dropped his hand from his eyes. "She was attacking you right? Yeah, because the last I heard you weren't exactly getting along." "Yes dad, she was attacking me." Jake replied, voice hard. "Why are you even here?" "I came here to visit my son, which I haven't seen in four months." Ray smiled walking over to Jake to give him a hearty bear hug and pat on the back. "What I didn't expect was you Alexia." He grinned as he backed away from Jake to face me. "How long have you been dating?" "We're not." I said far too quickly. "Well then." Ray mumbled with a sarcastic smile. "Yeah..." I murmured barely audible. "Well, it was nice to see you Mr. Limington. But, I was just going." I stated reaching for my purse and flats that sat on the floor beside the door. Probably too quickly I opened the door and slipped outside only catching, "Ale-!" I hadn't taken more than five steps before I heard the door open and slam shut again, but that only made me speed up. If I could just get the hell out of there. "Alex!" Jake called after me after a short pursuit. I kept on going. However, Jake was faster as he quickly caught up with me and wrapped a hand around my wrist jerking me backward. "Alex just, just stop." "What do you want Jake?" I asked quickly as I turned to face him. I have to say Jake looked a little disheveled, from his now wrinkly shirt, lips that were a tad swollen, and messy hair. Damn it, he looked so adorable. "Why the hell did you just run out like that?" Jake began, but I cut him off. "Maybe I was a little embarrassed!" I snapped at him, finding the anger past the attraction. "And I just want to go home." That was a big fat lie. The last thing I wanted to do was go back to that big lonely house, all it did was remind me of that empty hole in my life. "Ha! The last thing you want to do is go home!" Jake exclaimed. Damn it! "But, I do." I lied smoothly. "Listen to me." Jake said softly his expression relaxing. With both of his hand cradling my face he looked into my eyes and spoke. "I know how you get when your home and I don't want you there alone. If you want to go so bad, I'll go with you tomorrow." "No..." I said as he released me, but I tinkered with my hands as I spoke, refusing to look him in the eyes. "I'm not ready to back there yet." "I know." He spoke. "But, just come back inside." He smiled and gripped my hand and began pulling me up the walk. "I'm not going back in there." I shook my head smiling as I came to a halt. "Then where are you going?" He asked a bit cold. "I haven't seen Amber since-since my mother's funeral. So, I'll go visit her." I looked up at him eyes soft. "Fine," He sighed unable to argue with me. He knew I had withdrawn myself from all my friends after her death. I haven't even had contact with my best friend from high school, Amber. "Yet, I have conditions." He stated completely serious. "Okay." I muffled a grin at his over protectiveness. Looking me straight in the eyes he stated his terms. "Be back by midnight. No alcohol and no guys." "What do you mean no gu-," I began, but was rudely interrupted. Not that I really minded. Jake's lips had quickly moved to capture mine. Yet, this wasn't anything like our first two kisses aka full of anger and equal passion. I quickly found my arms moving up slowly to encircle his neck and myself moving up on my tip-toes. He was kissing me in a way I hadn't experienced, tenderly. But, it didn't last as long as I would have liked. "No guys." He repeated slowly grazing his lips over mine his arms wrapped around my waist. "What does this mean?" I whispered eyes still closed and arms still encircling his neck. "I don't know." He answered truthfully. "All I do know is that I'm confused and that I don't want you with any other guys." He smiled in a way that made me grin back like an idiot. "Okay." I smiled. "You better go visit with your dad and I'll go over to Amber's." "Okay." He pouted and kissed me again. I turned and walked away, still grinning like an idiot. What was he doing to me? It wasn't long before I pulled up in front of Amber's apartment building. I had to say it had been a while since I had been here, which was horrible. I had to admit I ignored more than a few text messages and phone calls from Amber. Before long I had made my way up the stairs and stood in front of her door. With a deep breath I prepared myself for the scolding she would give me for basically ignoring her existence for four months. Speeding it along, I quickly knocked and took a step back. It felt like an eternity before I finally heard rustling and the familiar sound of unlocking. The door crept open and before I knew it Amber stood in front of me looking as shocked as if I was the chubacabra. Amber had always been pretty, but at the moment she looked as if she just climbed out of bed. Her long blonde hair was in a messy bun and she wore green shorts and a white tank-top. Her golden brown eyes only cut into me for a second longer before the fact I was standing in front of her registered. "Alexia!" Her face lit up as she hugged me. "Hi." I smiled as she finally released me. "Where the hell have you been?" She asked her eyebrows furrowed and hands resting on her hips. "I just had to get my life back together and stuff." "Fine." she nodded. "Well, come in! Oh, wait no-." It only took a step around the corner to see the thing she didn't want me to. "Blake?" I mumbled unbelieving to the shirtless man on Amber's couch. Yet, this wasn't any shirtless man. It was my exboyfriend Blake Winter. "Hi." He smiled nervously standing up. I used to think Blake was the hottest man out there, but as I looked at him now he didn't have that charm he used to have on me. He was a pretty guy with dark blue eyes and that same shaggy hair he had when we dated. "So, you guys are dating now?" I looked back at Amber who looked like she had committed some deadly crime. Yeah, she had broken the girlfriend rule of never dating each other's exes and I'd even admit if I hadn't had my eye on someone else this might would have bothered me, but the truth was she could have him. "Yes." She answered slowly and in a near whisper. "He lives with me now." "Wow, I drop off the face of the planet for four months and look what happens." I laughed. I really hoped that they could have a happy relationship. Amber would have sex with him unlike me. In the end that was the killer of our relationship. I couldn't fall in love him and I believe sex comes with love not love comes with sex. I was genuinely happy for them. "Are you mad?" Amber asked moving to stand beside Blake her shoulders slumped refusing to look at me. "No." I smiled. "There's no point." "Okay, good." Her face lit up. Moving over to the couch she plopped down and patted the spot beside her. "Well, sit down and fill me in a little." She insisted. "I'm going to go take a shower." Blake dismissed himself walking away. "Well..." She smiled."Start!" That's the thing I loved about Amber, it didn't matter if you were gone four months or four hours. With a sigh I fell to the spot beside her. "You know Jake right?" I smiled. Part of me still couldn't wait to be like that fifteen year old girl and blab about him. "Yeah..." Amber nodded her head a grin spreading on her face. "Well, I kind of moved in with him and he offered to let me take him in as a client." I told her talking far too fast. "What?" She exclaimed. "Yeah," I smiled nodding my head. "I just couldn't stand to be in my house after everything, you know? So, Jake offered a way out and I took it. No matter how much I hated him at the time. For about three and a half months I kind of just went along basically just breathing, eating, and working. But, a few weeks ago things started getting weird between me and Jake." I informed her trying to sum up the last four months of my life. Amber started smiling. "I was depending on him for everything and I guess somewhere along the lines I started finding myself becoming attracted to him." I looked away voice becoming lower. "He's always been gorgeous." Amber pointed out. "So to make a long story short we kissed and I don't know about anything else." I said and then gave a small grin. "He's really hot." She pointed out again. "I don't like him just for his looks you pervert." I laughed. She just sat there smiling. "Are you still a-" "Yes!" I cut her off. "Okay, okay. " She grinned. "Well, I'm gonna go put some clothes on and then were gonna go do something. Like old days." She smiled and scurried into her room. With slow and quiet steps I made my way up the stair of Jake's dead silent house. I had made my deadline, it was 11:45. On my tip toes I passed my room where Ray slept and crept into Jake's room. From my vantage point by the door I could see his sleeping form as he lay on his back taking soft, slow breaths. On my tippy-toes again I took long steps over to his dresser and pulled out a random shirt blindly and headed into the bathroom. I wasn't gonna go into the room Ray was sleeping in and get my own clothes. A few minutes later I peeked my head back into Jake's room. Luckily he still lay in the same position asleep. Quickly I sneaked over to his side and planted a kiss on his cheek. I swiftly as I came I turned to go, but was stopped as a quick hand wrapped itself around my wrist. "Where are you going?" He asked voice husky from sleep as I tried to pull out of his grip. "The couch," I whispered. He chuckled lightly. "No." Pulling on my arm I unceremoniously fell on top of him. "You dad is gonna think I'm a hussy." I argued. "You really shouldn't be worrying about what he thinks." He replied. "Just get under the covers and go to sleep." Pulling down the sheets he patted the spot beside him. Reluctantly I slid beneath the covers and scooted away from him. "Defiant tonight aren't we?" He asked as he pulled me back over to him. "Shut up." I mumbled pressed myself to his side. It wasn't that I didn't want to be near him I was just still so confused on what was acceptable and what wasn't. I just wanted him to give me some reassurance that he wanted me near him, which I knew he would. It wasn't much longer before I drifted off, comfortably pressed to Jake's side. The next thing I knew I was yanked into consciousness by some soft talking I could barely make out. My eyes still refused to open, but I was beginning to process the words being spoken in the room beside me. "It's nasty Jake; she is like my daughter and your sister." I heard Ray whisper. "Her mom just died and your long time girlfriend and she needed someone. And I was willing to be that someone." Jake said sounding defensive. "So you going to let her run your career, live in your house, and sleep in your bed?" "Yes Dad!" I heard his volume raising as he was getting angrier. "I care about her and I'm going to take care of her." "You're making a mistake. She is inexperienced and she'll run your career into the ground." Ray whispered. "I trust her!" He snapped. "Not to mention she took over her mother's company and is more than capable of running my career!" He growled. "You don't care about her. The only reason she is here is because she is just a set of tits and an ass for you to play with until you get bored." All I heard after that was the sickening sound of skin to skin contact at an extreme speed and a muffled grunt that came from Ray Limington. Curiosity got the best of me as I padded barefoot down the hall to where the sounds were originating from, my bedroom. I couldn't believe my eyes as I stood in the doorway. Jake had punched him. Punched him! Punched him right in the face. Jake still stood looming of Ray that lay on the floor covering his face with his hands. As soon as Jake saw me he turned and his eyes soften. I couldn't go in there, but I still shot Jake a caring look and turned and left. Crawling back into Jake's bed I sat up and pulled the covers up around my shoulders and waited. "Get off the floor and leave." Jake told Ray roughly. All I heard next was the sound of clothes rustling and the burly footsteps down the hall followed by a door slam and then silence. I couldn't help but climb out of bed and canter down the hallway to my bedroom. Jake sat on the edge of my bed his face in his hands as he stared down at the floor. He was nearly shaking in rage. "Jake." I murmured walking over to sit next to him. Pressing myself to his side I run my hand up and down his back in an attempt to comfort him. "You shouldn't have heard that." He stated not moving to look at me. "You defended me." I pointed out. "I shouldn't have let him stay last night, after I knew how you felt about him. But, I didn't listen. Thanks to me you're upset and I punched my father!" "Jake!" I exclaimed standing up. Grabbing hold of his wrists I jerked his hands away from his face and then lifted his chin to force him to look at me. I could see the reason he didn't want me to see his face. His green eyes looked so dull and depressed that they stole my breath away. "I'm not upset, angry, or sad." I told him as I reached down to tickle right below his chin with my pointer finger. "Yes, you punched your father and I'm not ashamed to say I think he deserved it." I smiled. Finally Jake gave me a small weak grin, but it still was one no matter how wimpy. "He just makes me so mad." He muttered lowly bowing his head into his hands again. "I feel so fucking horrible about this." "Hey, I'm not upset and your dad will heal." "I know." He sighed. "He can stand there and insult me, my life, and career all he wants. But, when he brings you into something I just, just snap." Sitting down beside him again I let him talk. "Never ever doubt that I care about you Alexia." He said looking me in the eyes now. "I want you to know everything he said was completely wrong. I didn't let you live here and help you get your career back on track because I wanted something from you." "I know that." I told him. "Yet, I could never thank you enough for all you've done for me. I was a complete asshole to you for a long, long time." "To be completely truthful I was just happy you let me help you." He revealed his voice was low. "But, let's not sit here and dwell on the past." He stood up and pulled me into a quick hug still no look of happiness on his face. "You're gonna be late for work and I'm gonna be late for practice." He attempted a smile. Turning he left the room. I couldn't stand seeing Jake so sad. It made me sad. I stood there for a second processing all his words before I decided I needed to see a real smile from him before I left for work. "Jake!" I called after him as I jogged down the hallway. "Yeah?" I heard him answer from his room. I continued down the hall walked into his room. He was already partially dressed wearing only black gym shorts and with his cleats in one hand. I swiftly moved over to him took his cleats and set them on the ground. He had a quizzical look on his face as I wrapped my arms around his neck and came up on my tippy-toes. "Kiss me." I whispered. It didn't take long for him to finally figure out what was going on and oblige. His lips descended on mine and I was lost in seconds. He was skilled. In less than thirty seconds I pulled away reluctantly. I looked up at him and he smiled a real smile. "What was that for?" He asked. "I had to see one real smile before I left." I grinned back at him as I unwrapped by arms from his neck and turned to leave. "Wait." He grabbed my wrist. "Alexia Lynn, will you go on a date with me tonight?" I turned back around eyebrows raised. "Jake Limington," I paused. "I would love to go on a date with you." I smiled.
