The younger sister had spent the night in his bed, the other sister had caught his eye and their mother appeared to be trying to get it off with him. Walker thought it would only require the father to throw his arm around him and call him pal and... The 11:50 train heading east had Walker aboard, kicking himself for not choosing correctly initially but knowing he'd made the right decision by getting out of that potential explosive honey pot and continuing his journey. To be fair, the mother had deserved a little treat; she'd kindly offered him a lift from the railways station when he had arrived at 11:35 two nights earlier. He'd started walking to the town center two miles away to look for a cheap bed when finding no cab had turned up. Mrs Agnew stopped to offer him a ride and ended up taking him home to feed him late supper and then said he could sleep on the sofa. Now he was on the next stage of his journey with no planned destination. A newspaper lay on the seat opposite Walker and as he went to pick it up the woman against the window said, "That's my newspaper." "Lucky you," Walker said, rustling it open. "You have a nerve." He grinned, "Possession is nine-tenths of the law." Walker turned to the sports pages and despite the racket the train was making going round and curve and on to a bridge he heard metal against metal ending with a click. "Oh yeah," said the woman. "This 9 millimeter baby says you're wrong." The newspaper shook a little faster than the vibration caused by the carriage movement. Walker dropped into the mode to take care of himself as he'd been taught in the military. He knew he had to slow this affair down and give the impression he posed no threat. He smiled over the newspaper, "Would you shoot me over the possession of a newspaper?" She wore a cap and with carriage lighting dimmed there was too much shadow over her face to catch her features and that placed him at a disadvantage. The stupid bitch might be psycho -- it would be indicated by crazed eyes, wouldn't it? "I might?" "Think of the publicity...the newspaper heading reading 'Babe Shoots Guy over a ripped newspaper'." "It's not ripped." "It would be if I were shot." She put away the gun. "I hadn't thought of that." "Did you put your shooter back on safety?" "Oh thanks. Where are you heading?" "Nowhere." She put the gun away again. "Where's that?" "I've finished with the Amy and don't know what to do, so I'm train riding." She said that seemed a useless thing to do and he shook his head. "What's this? You looked set to shoot me over a fucking newspaper and now you are concerned about my welfare?" He saw the lips purse and then widen, perhaps into a smile. It was impossible to see detail. "Alleging I'm concerned about your welfare is a bit rich and don't use that awful word in my company." "What shoot?" He saw the teeth flash. That was a smile. "Why did you sit by me when the carriage is half empty?" Walker said, "I saw the newspaper." "Oh. Well read it and keep it." "What's changed your mind about me?" She scratched beneath the peak of her cap. "You appear to have humor, you don't scare easily and you are Army, not a bum." "Ex Army could mean a new bum?" "Show my how much money are you carrying. That will settled whether you are a bum or not." "Go to hell." The woman said. "Speak disrespectfully to me and I'll draw my gun." Walker warned, "I'm wised up to you. Go for your gun I'll be over there so fast you won't know what's hit you and your gun hand will be hanging from a broken wrist." "You wouldn't do that; I'm a lady." Walker snorted. "Ladies don't wear caps and have their tits pulled up tight like you do and wear their skirts that short. I can practically see your panties." "What in this dim light?" "My eyes see well when its tits and leg. They are well trained." "I bet." Walker decided he'd said enough. If he didn't watch it he'd call her a slut and she'd fish out the gun and shoot him before he could get across to her. But that wasn't likely, was it? Miss Cap looked at her watch. "Forty minutes to go to White Rock Wells Junction. My pickup is there and I drive on to Crossroads City. Want to come with me?" "What and get shot?" "You seem to think I'm a slut. Perhaps you could be right and get lucky?" Walker shut his eyes to think about that and the next thing she was banging his legs with hers and saying, "Move your ass and let me out. This is where I get off." He jumped to his feet and saw she was as tall as he was, perhaps even a little taller. She was possibly pretty and she looked young. It took five seconds before she opened her mouth again. He stared at her, swaying in rhythm with the train. "Well, are you coming with me or not?" "Yeah, if I'm going to be shot it may as well be by you. On the other hand it could be interesting." They walked over to the white pickup. She said, "I haven't been home for several months." "Then why isn't this vehicle dirty?" "Oh, Mr Sharp Eyes with intelligence. My family left it here sometime today, that's why. Would you like to get up a 2:15 am and drive fifteen miles to pick up your daughter or your sister?" "If I had family I'd be pleased to drive one hundred miles to pick them up." She looked at him wide-eyed; they were perhaps blue. Eyes don't color well in the dark. She sounded a little flustered. "Well, my comment went a little flat, didn't it? Get in -- oh drop the bags into the tray." She sat in the vehicle. "Do you want to kiss me?" "Perhaps but not now." She looked puzzled and started the vehicle. "What kind of answer was that?" "If you prove to be worth kissing I would want to kiss you, that's all. I don't think you are a slut." "Well, I glad we have that sorted," she said powering off. "I'm Sabine Reynolds and my reason for asking you to come with me is because my mother says I never bring anyone interesting home. I've just finished studying to be an accountant. Our family builds roads and bridges. Are you surprised I'm blonde, pretty and have a brand new degree to become dad's accountant and business consultant?" "Nah, two female engineers and a female accountant were in our outfit. "I'm Walker Smith, an orphan raised in a boy's home and most of the fit boys from our home went into the Army, a few into the Navy." "I'm sorry you're an orphan Walker." "Thanks, now say Walker is a funny first name." "No I won't. It's only a little unusual but that's all. Being named Smith you probably needed a more distinctive name." "At least you've got that right." "Thank you." Walker hid a grin. "You sound to be more polite the closer you get home." Sabine shot him a startled look. "Well in the train you unnerved me sitting so close to me when all those other seats were empty." "I accept that. Did you get much sex at college or was it university?" "Five years at college where I gained an MBA. Actually I had heaps of sex. Thank you for asking." Walker grinned and she grinned. "We seem to be settling into a common wavelength." He looked at the side profile of the closest breast. "Yeah." "I'll ask daddy to give you a job if you want. He'll find you something, even if it's unloading and loading trucks." "Where would I sleep?" "Well if you accept a job, certainly not in our house. Were you thinking of sleeping with me?" "Yes." "God you are not very romantic." "No." "Or talkative?" They drove on in silence. Sabine appeared to be thinking. "Mom will invite you to sleep in the house if you appear interesting." "Your dad could be interested in me." "Oh yeah, he'll be looking for any sign that you have designs on me." Walker said, "We could say we have been sleeping together for the past three months, that I was one of your lecturers." "A couple of questions from dad or my brothers and you'd be shot down in minutes." "Oh yeah?" "Yeah." Walker asked, "Would you sleep with me?" "I might." "That sounds evasive." "I need to get to know you." "Fair enough. And then to have me medically examined?" "I haven't ever asked for that. Would you want me to be medically checked?" "Nope. I've taken so many risks another one shouldn't hurt." They drove on towards the city lights, the lights much brighter on the skyline. "I have this feeling my mother is going to find you very interesting. What did you do in the army?" "Quite a lot of this and that." Sabine grinned. "Then again perhaps she won't. They entered the city. "Look, I have a plan but you'll have to cooperate." "Okay." "Okay what?" "I'll fit in with your plan. Why ask me every thing twice?" Sabine flared. "Don't be so rude. Ordinary people want to know what a plan is before agreeing to cooperate." "Well I think I've had time to assess you and my opinion is you're a bit feisty and bright and can be trusted." "How dare you assess me without my consent." "Well, that proves you're feisty plus a little stuck up." Sabine said, "You have no idea what you're going into. My sister Jaylene will want to fuck you because she's jealous of me, my two brothers will take the first opportunity to fight you because they've always driven my boy friends away and my father...well just consider he's explosive." "And your mother?" Sabine grinned. "She'd an older version of me but wears her tits and hem lower." "Well I guess that's told me what to expect. Now would you get on with it?" "With what?" Sabine stopped the vehicle. "That's the house up ahead on the hill." They were now just out of the far side of the city. The house was large and under security lights to the left were buildings and plant, obvious the core of the Reynolds' family business. "Sleeping with me is the quickest way to win acceptance of my family and dad might give you a decent job if he thinks you can handle it. The only condition is you don't have sex with me and we dress and undress in the dark." "Why go to this trouble? Why not put me in a spare bedroom?" Sabine smiled. "Don't you see? This way you are in the inner sanctum. I don't get to have sex at home becomes my family keep men away from my sister and me, forcibly if necessary." "That's a pity. Sounds feudal." Sabine looked surprised. "Yes, actually it is. That's a rather difficult word for you to know." "Cheeky bitch." She laughed and leaned towards him, looking at his lips so he kissed her, quickly. "Hmmmm." He grinned and asked what? "I really don't know. What I was trying to say that if you already are having sex with me, and have been doing so regularly, my family would accept the situation. They have the mentality that one fuck by someone passing through and I'm pregnant and the father has absconded." "Feudalism? That's dimwitted village mentality." "You are so right," Sabine sighed. "Then again chances are they could be right." "Grrrrrrrrr. You can be so damn frustrating." "At times life can be so boring in the military. That's why I developed an agile mind to amuse myself." "What did you do in the army?" "This and that." Sabine slapped the shift into gear and snapped, "So fucking frustrating." They entered the house quietly, Sabine pressing the security lock buttons, and went straight to her bedroom that appeared to be a suite at the end of a wing. "What side do you prefer?" "The side most difficult to fuck you from," he yawned. "Then you sleep on my left." Walker stripped quickly in the dim light from the bathroom but there was enough light for her to croak, "Ohmigod." He'd hoped his hanging dick impressed her but she was looking at the ugly scar beside his heart and under his left shoulder. "You've had a Tour of Duty and were hit." "Yeah but don't get romantic notions. We were peace-keeping and clearing up after bombing by insurgents. It was accidental: I was shot by one of our own guys. It happens more than you civilians would believe." "It must have almost been fatal." "I was swinging for a while." "Swinging?" "Could have gone either way. I got lucky -- we had a surgeon with us." "Oh you poor darling. Let me hold you." Walker pushed her away roughly. "I don't like women fussing at me." "I bet you don't," Sabine snapped. "Get into bed and go to sleep. I'm almost ready to hate you." "You're tired too. You'll wake up fine in the morning." People moving about the house woke Walker. His watch indicated 6:05. A split second after waking he knew where he was and what the situation was. He looked at the sleeping Sabine. She was on her back in that abandoned look movie director's favor. Walker favored it. The nearest breast was half out of her gown, the nipple fully out. He worked a finger around and over it and watched it grow, fascinated as he always was when doing this. "What the fuck are you doing?" "Good morning," he said cheerfully, taking his time to draw his hand away. "I became seduced by your nipple." She stretched and sighed and the other breast popped out. God, thought Walker, she'd decided to let him fuck her. "Get out and get dressed. I won't look." There was a knock on the door and a woman, obviously her mother, came in with a cup of coffee. In that instance Walker knew he liked this woman with her motherly face. "Hello darling, it's so..." She stopped, almost dropping the coffee but in a flash steadied it with her other hand. "Good morning Mrs Reynolds. I'm Walker Smith. Excuse me for not jumping up and being polite but I'm wearing nothing." "Good morning Walker," Mrs Reynolds said, her eyes huge. "Here, take this and I'll fetch another for Sabine." She left the room without another word. "You handled that brilliantly," Sabine said, kissing Walker's shoulder. "Give me a sip." Sabine wiped her lips and said, "Mom's mind will be in such a whirl. She'd go back to the kitchen and the three men will eye her stonily when she blurts, 'Sabine has brought a guy home with her. He's in her bed -- nude'. Jaylene will look at the kitchen door fighting the urge to rush up here and say hi." A blur of white came flying through the door and skidded to a halt. "Um, hello," she said, looking at Walker, pretending she hadn't know he was there. "Hi Sis. Great to have you back home. Your extra luggage looks interesting, very interesting." "Hi darling. Jaylene, this is Walker Smith, a...er...friend." "Yeah, I bet. About the closest friend a girl can get." The sisters giggled and their mother entered with Sabine's coffee. "Jaylene your father is furious at you leaving the table in a rush without asking to be excused." "Oh dear, crime of the century again. When will I ever learn?" Walker knew at that moment he liked the kid sister. He suppressed a grin to avoid encouraging her rebelliousness. At least the females were okay in this family, very okay in fact. He said, "Jaylene you wait outside for me, closing the door after your mother leaves. I'll dress and you can take me to breakfast and introduce me. Your father will forget about bawling you out. They'll be too busy sizing me up." Jaylene looked pleased and for a second Walker thought her mother was about to walk over and kiss him. Sabine had a hand on his hip, dancing her fingers. The smell of cooking breakfast hit Walker in the empty belly as they walked in. "Guys, this is Sabine's fella Walker Smith and I can tell what I saw above the bed clothes this guy is all muscle so watch your bullying." "Good morning Walker," said the older guy standing up. "Welcome to my home. Is your involvement with Sabine honorable?" "Well that depends, some fathers would think anyone fucking their daughter who lives at home is a dishonorable act." The brothers stood up and gathered, one each side of their father. "Gavin, don't be too hasty with this guy," Mrs Reynolds said quietly. "For once I do believe Sabine has brought home a male with balls." The father glared, the brothers grinned and Jaylene snickered. "Serve breakfast Jaylene." "Yes father." "Walker sit where you want." "That chair at your right will do." "That's Luke's place." "Well I'm hungry so am not in a mind to play musical chairs. Sit somewhere else Luke." Luke grinned. "Try to make me sit somewhere else." "Luke!" Everyone turned to look at the door to the bedrooms. Sabine stood there in a robe, hands on hips, face looking severe. "Walker may be my lover but he's also a newly arrived guest in his house. Show him respect." Luke looked at his father who shook his head. Sabine strode over to the stove and picked up a heavy frying pan, used to cook the tomatoes. Luke said, "Hi Sabine. Welcome home. I don't want trouble with you so I'm happy to move down one." When everyone bar Jaylene was seated Gavin asked Walker how he earned his money and Walker said he'd come out of the army with money. "What did you do in the army?" "This and that." "What kind of answer is that?" "The only one you're getting. Being with the army gave me this." He stood, pulled up his polo and showed the big scar at the front and the little one at the back. "Bullet in back, out through the front and I wear these scars for life so can you understand why I'm not verbose about the Army?" "Oh you poor darling," Mrs Reynolds said. Luke said, "That looks close range. Shot by one of your own men. Accident or were you hated?" Walker sat down and grinned. "Great thinking Luke and spot on. Accidental I assure you." Luke grinned. "If Sabine hadn't been in the room I would have suggested a shooting by an irate husband." Everyone but Gavin laughed loudly including Sabine. Gavin managed a smile. The conversation settled down and during the exchanges Walker learned Mrs Reynolds' name was Julia -- and she asked him to call her that -- and the younger and quieter brother was Roland and the ages of the children were Luke thirty-two, Roland twenty-nine, Sabine twenty-four and Jaylene twenty-one. "You spaced out your deliveries," Walker said and Julia replied smiling, "According to the economic times. We tended to have more time to make babies when new contracts weren't coming in." "Julia!" The children snickered. "Gavin is giving you the impression we had a great cabbage patch Walker." They all laughed, Gavin perhaps laughing the loudest. "Have you asked how Sabine got her name?" Gavin asked. "I wanted Goldie thinking she'd be blonde, and it turned out I was right." "Neither of the boys were blond, although I am and I thought Goldie would be dumb if it was a girl with black hair. When the big fool was gooing at our new baby as if Christmas had arrived I said I wanted to call her Sabine and he said okay. He was aware my mother had lived all her live in Sabine County in Texas until she traveled, had a shipboard romance and married the guy when his divorce came through. Now tell us about your name?" "I grew up in a boy's home after my young parents abandoned me as Jim Smith. We had two other Jim Smiths so when I turned sixteen although the other two had gone I asked the director if I could have my name changed officially before I entered the army in another couple of years because they wouldn't allow me to change my name. I was one of two guys looking after his vegetable garden and had done so for five years, so he was a little soft of me as the other kid and I were trustees...you know kids who wouldn't run away but we two knew we had nowhere to run to." "Oh God, brutally shot and now this," Julia said, sobbing. He daughters rushed to comfort her. "We were in an institution but although it was secure, it wasn't prison. We even had TV. The director told me to think about what name I wanted. That night we watched a TV show we liked, 'Walker Texas Ranger.' I said I wanted to be named Walker Smith and I wanted to learn martial arts. He said he'd talk it over with his wife and Mrs Bridger said because I was currently the longest-term resident they should do something for me. So my name was legally changed from James to Walker and twice a week Mrs Bridger took me to my martial arts classes in town. I began winning prizes and they became proud of me, like parents I guess." Sabine Draws Gun on Walker "Oh god, Julia shouted, a burst into real tears and both daughters were brushing at their eyes. Gavin said, "That will do boy. It's too hard on the women." "So you can fight tough and rough?" "Yea Luke, if I have to. But real fighting messes you up so I don't do it. My body already has scarring I don't want." "Well can we have a friendly?" "If you promise not to lose your temper." "Okay." "Right, after we have finished here and clear away." "The woman clear away in this house," Roland said. Walker said well that was a bad deal. Men should display good manner. "Take your plate and coffee mug over to the sink Roland. Please." Roland looked at his father who nodded. Roland did as requested. "Now you Luke." Luke grinned. "Yes boss." Walker looked at Gavin and said it would be disrespectful to instruct the head of the household. He took his plate, mug and utensils to the bench, closely followed by Gavin with his. The women looked at this without saying a word, the sisters smiling. Julia just sat with her mouth open. On the porch Luke asked, "Anything goes like boxing, wrestling, judo and kick boxing?" "Yeah." "Right, but I won't put on my boots." Walker danced around on the grass to loosen up. Luke grinned, standing hands on hips. When he was ready Walker walked up to him and lightly smacked Luke across the cheek with the flat of his hand and had danced out of reach before Luke had finished saying, "What the fuck? He bellowed and charged and stopped abruptly. "Oh yeah, that's what you wanted me to do." Luke shaped up and threw two feints and then a heavier punch. Walker kicked Luke's hip, spinning the bigger man around and then kicked into the middle of his back, sending Luke sprawling. Thereafter there was no body contact because Luke wouldn't allow it, being much too fast. Luke, puffing, gave up and said, "Very impressive pal." "Give me a shot," cried Roland. "Let me whack you with this broom handle." "There is no need to force me to show my skill Roland." "Ha, I'm much faster that Luke. Come and get me," he taunted. Walker moved in and Roland flayed the handle, forcing Walker to jump, duck and sidestep at very fast speed and suddenly it was Walker who had the broomstick. He whacked Roland over both ears with it, hit both of Roland's elbows and wrists in almost a blur and then whacked Roland between the legs and as Roland doubled up grasping his balls. Then holding the broomstick in both hands Walker brought it down at speed and stopped half and inch short of the back Roland's neck. Walker then dropped the stick and grasping Roland said, "Are you all right? I tried not to hit your nuts too hard." "Yes, god you could have killed me if I'd had a pick handle." "Oh, there are moves to turn a broomstick into a lethal weapon Roland. No hard feelings." "Nope," Roland said straightening up. "I'm okay mom. Isn't Walker amazing?" "I find him most interesting," Julia said. Walker looked at Sabine and they exchanged knowing smiles. "Right, you boys off to work," Gavin said. "I show Walker Texas Ranger around. I suppose from what you've said you want a job." "Providing I stay in the house and sleep with Sabine." "I'd be the laughing stock of my men." "Then give me a job supervising road or bridge construction or put me to work in the design office." "You have to have qualifications for that work." "That's why our institution had senior boys placed in the military...to get qualifications." "Oh yeah? What qualifications do you possess?" "I'm registered as a professional engineer, the Amy trained me in civil engineering and I've had three years' fulltime experience building roads and bridges in the Middle East. My master's in engineering certificate is in my bag along with references." Walker walked off to take a look at the yards from the cliff edge while everyone stared at him until breaking into stimulated chatter. "Oh yes he's a very experienced engineer with snipers shooting at him and the way ahead of them mined and in mortar range," he heard Sabine lie for him. Walker grinned, having just seen her shocked face. No doubt before nightfall he'd get a roasting over his 'this and that' evasive comments. CHAPTER 2 Gavin finished taking Walker on a tour of the barns containing vehicles, supplies, vehicle workshops, areas for bending steel and the like and they were about to head up the stairs to the offices when Julie called, "I brought your phone down Walker is case you need it." They looked back just in time to see a terrible accident. A guy carrying a long length of timber just ahead of Julia turned to see who was talking and the end of the timber on his should caught Julia on the left side of her head, near her temple. She fell like a stone, without a sound. "Julia," screamed Gavin, the yell echoing from the metal pit dug in the hill below the house. People came running for everywhere. Gavin raced towards Julia but Walker was already there, beating even the guy who'd dropped the piece of timer and turned to go to Julia's aid. "Help me straighten her Gavin," Walker said calmly. "Don't touch the wound." "But it's bleeding." "Don't touch it. Someone get me the medical kit and an unopened bottle of water." A guy ran off. "Where's the nearest surgical hospital?" "Surgical?" Gavin croaked. Someone said Byron Falls. "How far is that?" About seventy-five miles." "Fuck!" "Someone call a chopper." "The only operator in town is Fellows Helicopter Services. One machine is being rebuilt and the other two are stripped down because of fuel contamination -- my brother works there." "Where is the nearest army post with choppers?" "Fort Rex, forty-five miles due east." "Someone phone for their number -- here use my phone," Walker said, picking up his phone and blowing off the dust. He got the dial tone for a young guy and went to attend Julia, noticing Gavin was stroking her and shaking. Jaylene pushed through and said, "Oh god." "Do you have clean hands?" "Yes, was washing the breakfast pots when I heard dad's roar." "Jaylene, you are our medic. Open one of those sterilized packs and hold two diagonal ends while I pour water on the dressing." "Won't that further dilute..." "Just listen and do it Jaylene. I've had field training for this sort of thing." "Okay, good girl. Now lower it gently over the wound. Good, right on target." "Oh god, mom, mom. Can you hear me? "Yeah it's okay to talk to her but if she wakes keep her awake so she can answer medics if she can talk," Walker said. Jaylene apply two more compresses." Sabine arrived and groaned, "Oh mom. What happened?" "Jaylene, get Sabine to pour on the water like I did. Then bandage them were firmly but not overly tight. We don't want to drive in any splinters or debris. Really firmly should stop the blood flow." "Here's Fort Rex sir," said the teenager." The guy is corporal Hayes." "Thanks for your initiative son." Walker took the phone. "This is an emergency corporal. Put me through to your commanding officer or acting commanding officer." Walker gave his number and rank as Army Captain, retired to the next speaker. "We have an civilian emergency here on the outskirts of Crossroads City, eastern boundary. All three local choppers are unserviceable. The victim is my fiancées mother, head inquiries. Piece of flying wood. Heavy concussion expected. Skull could be indented at impact point. Need fast transport to Bryon Falls surgical." "Right, oh right. Thank you colonel." Walker turned and said to Gavin, "Chopper is practically airborne now as the crew has just touched down on exercise. Colonel Hayes said you did the new helipads for them." "Oh yeah," Gavin said. "I wasn't thinking." Walker yelled, "Someone fetch a stretcher and blankets. Mrs Reynolds will be in deep shock." "I think the bleeding has stopped. Her breathing is extremely low." "That's to be expected. All we want is for her to breath. You've done well Jaylene. Who put these jackets on her?" "I got them off some men," Sabine said. "Great. You two are good emergency nurses. Someone put all the outside lights on and I want someone up on the roof here with a torch to flash at the chopper." "I'll do that." "Great. Long burst on, short burst off, long on, short off. You won't blind the pilot but it will cut the time he takes looking for exactly where we are." "Right captain." "I'm retired." "Not as far as I'm concerned captain." As the guy ran off Walker realized it was the guy who'd been carrying the piece of wood. He'd be in deep shit with Gavin. Well accidents were accidents and the guy was facilitating Julia's speedy airlift. He'd defend the guy when Gavin came out of his shock and attempted to ensure the guy never worked again. The chopper came into sight and came straight at them, acknowledging the blinks from the rooftop with two bursts from its searchlight. "That chopper will out speed the local ones Gavin. That alone will make up lost time. The command at Fort Rex has taken this over as a military operation and has clearance already to land on the roof of the hospital. They will also have a civilian surgical team standing by. With the stretcher there is room for two from here to go. "You're going as you will be the first person Julia will ask for when she wakes. Choose the other person." "You. Without you we would have been in a real mess." "Thank you but no. Family Gavin." "Gavin looked at his family sitting on their heels around their fallen and perhaps critically injured mother. The one who stood out was Jaylene, whispering into her mom's ear and gently stroking a cheek." "Jaylene." "Good." "Here are the keys to my truck. You come by road with Sabine. The hospital has limited accommodation for family in the emergency department. I'll stay there perhaps with Jaylene. Get Sabine to book into the Forefront Hotel...we have an account running there. Here, take my card." "Jaylene," Gavin called. "You're going on the chopper with your mother. Tell Sabine what you want her to bring; we'll follow by road." An Army doctor rushed into the group, half-saluted to Walker and said "Captain" and hunching over Sabine checked her vitals quickly and then inserted a needled with a drip and a uniform female medic hurried through with a range of IV containers. The doctor selected one and Luke and Roland picked up the stretcher their mom had been placed on fifteen minutes earlier and followed the doctor to the helicopter. Jaylene following them diverted to hug and kiss Walker and sniffed a big thank you. Gavin slapped Walker on the shoulders and took Jaylene's hand. Sabine took Walker's hand and he could feel the trembling. "What is her prognosis, do you know?" "It's a rather severe blow. With head trauma nobody knows. I suspect there is in indentation and will require an operation to ease the pressure." "Will she die?" "She could die on the helicopter or we may be bringing her home within a week or so. Initial survival comes with the risk of secondary infection and blood-clotting." "Oh god, I'm going to be sick." "No you're not. Scamper to the house and pack an overnight bag for Jaylene and one for yourself. I'll follow as soon as the chopper lifts off." "I can't bare to be by myself." "Who's that guy over there looking like shit." "Lenny, the guy who hit mom." "He's bleeding in a way Sabine. He'll take you to the house." "No." "Lenny -- over here." "Yes sir." "It was a terrible accident but nevertheless an accident Lenny. Try to get your mind off it. Please run with Miss Reynolds to the house and keep talking to her as she goes. I'll be along in a minute. She's also upset and may blame you. But that will pass. We all have accidents and some of us cause them." "Thank you sir." "Off you go Sabine. Take Lenny's hand and you both run. It will help calm you." As they ran off Walker said, "How the fuck would I know if running will do that?" Walker went to Luke. "It's bad Luke, rather bad. All we can hope is she gets the best attention available at that hospital. Does it have access to a neurosurgeon?" "Yeah, I heard the Army doctor tell dad the emergency department does." "Thank god for that. Your dad has given me his keys and wants me to..." "... to take Sabine? I know he told me when leaving me in charge here. Make sure Sabine takes her phone because she has our numbers." "If hunches count for anything Luke my hunch is she's going to pull through. Sorry I can't offer anything better than that." "Anything good is appreciated." Walker slapped Luke on the back and when passing Roland said, "She's a tough cookie pal, get that chin up." "It's the black Ford," Luke yelled and Walked waved as he broke into a run. Walker gunned the motor down the back road that Sabine said was shorter but narrower and quite bumpy. He'd said faster was best for them. Sabine said, "You have been of enormous assistance to our family -- you may even be responsible for saving our mother's life. An ambulance would have had to travel slowly because of her trauma." "It's just a service Sabine. I'm trained to perform it." "But you are not in the Army now buster; you did it for us because you like us." "Yes, that's correct. But actually I am still in the Army because when I came out I elected to take an indefinite contract and stay in with the Army Reserve. I did that to be called up in civil emergencies or sudden national emergencies. It never thought it would be useful to me in other ways. When I called Fort Rex and gave my details my profile came up on screen. That's why the army doctor was able to recognize me; he probably had my picture and details as a printout and that explains why he half saluted me and called me captain out of courtesy." "But you reinforced your chances of getting a favorable response and calling me your fiancée?" "You would think about becoming my fiancée wouldn't you?" Sabine placed her arm around Walker's neck. "After today, yes." "Phew, thank you. That makes it only a tiny lie to the Army rather than a big one. Actually they will be rather pleased to be doing it because it is recorded as an act of community assistance and involvement in a threat to life. The fort will earn itself a tick and if your father makes a donation of some sort to the fort, then all the better. Although your family is really too far away to be termed community, the fact that his operation has done work for the fort establishes a special relationship." "This is becoming too technical for me. You slept with me for a whole night without touching me, as I requested, and that was very honorable of you. Tonight you will have permission to plunder me, providing mom hasn't taken a turn for the worst." "That sounds lovely but let's wait and see." "We have about five miles and then this highway connects with the main route. You have made really excellent time without scaring me to death." "Thank you. That's the purpose of having an objective and achieving it without harming your own troops, friendly civilians or your vehicle." "I see. Well done so far captain." Sabine saw the incoming call was from her father so put her phone on speaker. "Hi dad, my phone is on speaker." "Where are you?" "Just over a mile to the main route at Betham's Crossing. We took the short route." "Well done, you've moved like grease lightening. You mother is still under examination. They are almost certain an operation will not be necessary. However I was told anything could happen. She regained conscious when being loaded on to the gurney and vomited three times before being unloaded in the emergency department. She couldn't seem to speak and one eye was dilated but apparently other signs were good. She has concussion and they think the wound is superficial and the depression you noticed Walker the surgeon reported as minor. He believes the force of the blow will almost certainly have caused brain bruising. He calls that 'to be expected' and is not a worry at this stage providing no hematoma develops or internal infection takes hold. That infection is unlikely as so far as he can determine because what he called the 'dura mater' has not been breached." Walker said, "Well that's something in Julia's favor." "Yes, I'm glad you are not all that far away now. Julia's condition is described as critical but don't be alarmed, as that is common for patients with head trauma. The medics just want to see signs of her condition improving within the next couple of hours." "How are you coping dad?" "Surprisingly well now but I was in a bit of a mess when I first saw her on the ground and that blood. I thought she was dying. It shocked me. You performed a magnificent leadership role Walker. I have been told getting Julie here fast was the key because even minor head injuries can blow up into major problems if left or there is delay in treatment." "He's wonderful dad, just wonderful and who thought the army would be of assistance to us. I can see the crossing coming up. Oh dad, now don't get upset. Could you please call Lenny and say you know it was an accident and tell him about mom. Walker made me go with Lenny up to the house, telling Lenny it was an accident but I had yet to accept that. I wanted to murder Lenny but as we went fast up to the house I found the poor guy was twisted in anxiety. He had difficulty speaking and not because we had loped up the hill. He said he wasn't worried about being sacked; he was worried about mom because she accepted he was not as quick on his feet or in his head as the other men but she always had a kind word for him. He then broke down and cried dad and I had to hug him. It wasn't careless dad; it was an involuntary action. I know that now. Please call him dad. Someone will take a phone to him when you call." "I'll think about it." "Thank you dad. I know you'll do better than that." "Bye Gavin," said Walker. "Don't let this upset you but do the right thing. I think Julia would want you to do it." "Oh brother, do you know how to twist a knife. Wait for the lights at the crossing." Walker turned on to the highway and was quickly over the speed limit but taking care and attempting not to alarm other motorists with maneuvers that could results in calls to the police. They arrived at the hospital without mishap or having seen any police cars. They entered the emergency department and Jaylene came running at them and threw herself at Walker who caught her. "Oh you wonderful, wonderful man in saving our mom's life. I heard the surgeon say as he looked at her, 'It's deep trauma but fortunately she's with us early. The next two hours are critical." "Jaylene thank you but please calm down. That fast helicopter trip was the key." "That's bullshit, that's bullshit," Jaylene said, hammering Walker with her fists. "Without you there would have been no helicopter." Walker grabbed Jaylene by her wrists and pulled her against him. Turning to the dismayed Sabine he said, "I'll calm her. Go to your father and if they do allow you in with your mom whisper her things about you being her first born. I understand it's a technique that sometimes works with traumatized patients." Sabine looked at him with dilated eyes, kissed his cheek when he learned forward to her. She hurried over to the reception desk. "Jaylene, I'm going to be tough with you verbally, rather than slap you. Your mom might die in the next couple of hours if things go horribly wrong, then again she may live for another forty years. The one thing we do know is there is nothing we can do about it and the doctors cannot do terribly much apart from drain off fluid and fight infection if it takes hold or, at the worst case scenario, go in and try to stop internal bleeding. But your dad told us there doesn't appear to be a depressed fracture and therefore nothing apparent to increase the chances of internal infection. She regained consciousness and vomited so doesn't appear to be in a coma and your dad said nothing about an induced coma, so to me it's looking good. So we just wait. We cannot intervene. We have to accept that." Sabine Draws Gun on Walker "Let my wrists go. Hug and kiss me. Keep telling me it's going to be all right." "Okay, there's a lounge chair just behind us. You can sit on my knees. You were good today, crouched down and stroking your mom's cheek and whispering to her. I saw you and admired you. But now everything has caught up with you and you have been left in this waiting room alone and your fears have seized you. Fight them, repel them Jaylene because when you go back to see your mom and to croon to her I don't want any feeling of gloom and doom emitting from you. I want you whispering to your mom like a happy young woman, no try to talk like a young girl and tell her about the best things you remember and doing things together." "Will that do any good," Jaylene sniffed, wiping her eyes. "Who knows darling. I'm only an ex-Army engineer, not Dr Kildare." "No, the chief guy is Dr Morris." "Oh is it dear? My mistake. But I'm damn sure whispering to her and if she hears you she'll know she's not alone. If you mom wakes up and doesn't recognize you, don't be afraid. That condition often goes with trauma and it can correct itself within hours or days, perhaps longer." "I don't want mom losing her memory." "Jaylene, remember what I told you; we can't dictate what is going to happen." When Sabine and Walker reached the hotel that night another night passed without sex. Sabine was exhausted and they'd brought Jaylene back with them. She was mentally drained and almost out on her feet and insisted in sleeping in their bed. The next night the feisty gun-waving young woman from the railway carriage of four nights earlier had turned into a doe-eyed mass of affection. Although Jaylene and her father were on the big sofa with them watching TV Sabine kept plying Walker's face and nearest ear with kisses and had wormed a hand down under his belt to activate his placid cock, that was now firm and hot in her hand. Sabine yawned. "I'm off to bed." "I'll come with you." Gavin, relaxed now that Julia was making good progress, talking and only experiencing the odd memory lapse said, "This is good drama." "I'll stay with dad till the end and join you guys." Gavin growled she had her own bed. "She slept with us last night dad, it was such a huge day for us and she didn't know where to put herself. One more night won't matter." "But you and Walker..." "We'll be fine dad. We have lots more nights ahead of us." "Oh god, I'm soooo horny," Sabine said as they entered the passage and Walker closed the door behind them. She pushed him against the wall, pulled his hand on to her breast and when went searching under his belt with her hand and said in her sexiest voice, "Where's my hot friend?" The 'friend' almost jumped into her hand but the material of Walker's briefs was between them. "Come on, we don't have much time," Walker urged a little hoarsely. "Undress me," Sabine said when Walker closed the door. "I wanna get at these tits." She giggled. He removed the thick top and proved to be no sludge in unhooking the bra hooks. "Oooh, you've had practice." "Only with Mrs Bridger at the boy's home," Walker joked. "Oh really?" Sabine said wide-eyed, taking him seriously. "You must tell me about that but not now." She unbuttoned her skirt and Walker found the zip under it and slid the garment to the floor. "I-I haven't had a shower since this morning." "No problem, I like smelly woman...makes me want to rut. Besides I have a fair idea what women have to put up with when engaging like this with men." "Women don't like listening to men talk about body odors Walker." "Well too bad. Get some pussy juice on your fingers and let my suck them." "I...um...really Walker!" But Sabine sighed and said why not and hooked in three fingers to mine for what Walker wanted. She heated up when she said 'Here you go' and watched Walker' tongue lick the drips before she pushed her fingers into her mouth. When she withdrew she was panting slightly and that increased when he said, "Only three fingers? Couldn't you have dug in your whole hand?" "Walker!" she gurgled, but couldn't find the tone for disgust. She began humping against his leg and told him to tongue. "Yea milady," he said, dropping to his knees. He licked around the vulva a bit and had just pushed between the flaps to have pussy juice flow over his tongue when the door opened and slammed shut and Jaylene said, "Oh goodie, you're only just starting, and began stripping off." Sabine backed off in dismay. "Jaylene, what are you doing?" "Joining you guys. Dad began yawning, poured a big glass of whisky and went off to bed." "He'll kill us!" "Don't be such a wet Sabine. I think he suspects but so what? Walker is the big hero and I'm taking advantages of this. Our brothers will be out until after midnight." "I really don't think..." Jaylene cut in, freeing her boobies. "What do you say Walker." "Anything is fine by me providing I get at least one of you." "Walker!" "Come on Miss Feisty. You can't pull a gun on a guy and yet be too prudish to have a three-way involving your sister. Are you telling me you two haven't licked?" "Well yes, but that was private and Jaylene and I felt like prisoners in the castle." "So you weren't just sluts." "Of course not," Sabine snapped. "Jaylene?" "We were whatever my sister says. I don't want to lose my chance here." Sabine sniffed and said, "Jaylene have you ever been involved in a three-way?" "Yes of course, and a gang bang." "Oh mother! Jaylene, Walker has never fucked me. We said we were lovers and I got him into me bed here so he'd be allowed to stay in the house and to fuck me when I was ready." "You lying shits, deceiving my family like that," Jaylene grinned. "Well you look pretty ready now...you're dripping, I can smell you arousal and just look at your nipples. Take Sabine first Walker. I'll clean my teeth while you to get going. Do Sabine on her back and I'll come in and sit on her face and you can play with my boobs while shafting her." "Oh god." Walker smiled at Sabine's politically correct performance. "What do you want to do Sabine? Do this or should I go into town and see if I can find the boys to join them for a drink?" "Or find them whoring," Jaylene sniggered. "All right, go clean your teeth Jaylene." Walker tossed Sabine on to her bed and kissed up from her belly, pausing to do a 'T' in his kissing pattern at her breasts, and then continued the straight line to her mouth. She kissed hungrily and with rising passion. Walker said, "You've had at least one threesome before." "Shhhhh. I don't want Jaylene to know. She's so young." "Okay, young but experienced, very experienced perhaps." Walker worked the tits, circling the nipple as if his tongue was a small boat making tight turns round a buoy. The buoy liked that and rose to attention. He licked between the mounds and Sabine shuddered. Walker half expected her to say she wanted his dick there but he had another target. He heard the toilet flush so decided to pick up the pace. He tapped on the pubic bone and Sabine's legs opened as if on remote control...well, they were, sort of. He placed his fingers between those rather shapely thighs and up against the fuzz. The fuzz was moist so he moved between those legs and pushed his bulbous end against the closed flaps and they parted. "Quickly, the hot little bitch is on her way and I want to be first." Walker's butt muscles and lower belly hardened and he pushed in and Sabine yelped and she then gurgled as his thickness raced up her slippery chute, hitting a few sensors just inside the entrance as it slid in, bouncing over small undulations. "Oooh, that sounds like someone being fucked. I wonder if daddy can hear it?" * * * Sabine closed her eyes to hide the murderous look because little sister had also turned on the lights. Jaylene then climbed over her carelessly, a knee almost removing one of Sabine's ears. She cut of the howl of pain, not wishing to break the tempo of the action because Walker was now plowing her. She could see muscles across his chest rippling -- she looking at the right side to avoid the heavy scars. Later she'd kiss the scars but right now she wanted that feeling of thrusting fullness to continue. Jaylene was now lowing herself over her and a drop of something hit down the side of Sabine's nose. She hoped it was pussy lube and not urine. Oh, Jaylene smelt so sweet. What's this -- no hair? Sabine explored with a hand and said, "You little slut, you're totally bald." 'I was told young women who totally shave or at least have their cunt bare get the most fucks," Jaylene said as if talking to a child or perhaps an adult near-virgin. Feeling a little humiliated, Sabine reached up and parted her younger sister's bloated pussy lips and thrust her tongue in as far as she could and then stuck a finger on either side of her tongue and waggled them." "Whew...that's great. You're better than most guys. Obviously you have been dorm well-trained." Now really annoyed, Sabine free a hand and jammed a finger up Jaylene's anus. "Hoooo ho-ho big sister. Take is easy. Wow, my eyes are watering. No leave it there and waggle. I can take another finger if you wish...and another once you have me loosened. Walker, I want you squeezing my tits. Come on!" What had happened to the tearful baby girl of yesterday Sabine wondered? Then she gulped, tensed and had yellow, green and red color flashes over her eyes and her cunt seemed to be attempting to strangle the invading dick. Oh god, when shifting position to grab Jaylene's tits he's hit my G-spot, first cock to strum it. It must be. I'm about to cum like a burst water pipe. Oh...oh...oh...WALKER!" She shook and shuddered, sweat pouring from her and her hips were attempting to bang back at Walker as if there was no tomorrow. She could feel her juices leaking around the thrusting cock and the balls slapping against her ass and running down the inside of her thighs. Jaylene was moaning she had no finger up her ass and Sabine had stopped licking her cunt. "Walker stop please. I'll roll away and you can fuck my hot little sister." "Yes, shove it up my butt Walker." Walker rolled away looking a little confused. He lost that look when Jaylene pressed one of her small tits with normal-sized nipples, but inflated now, into his mouth." "Sabine?" Walker looked at her appealingly." "Yes, it's okay with me. It's what I want. I'll clean up and have a rest in the bathroom. When I come back I'd like a nice gentle fuck Walker. Perhaps Jaylene can tongue your ass. Sabine looked back to see Jaylene on her hands and knees looking at Walker with a cute, knowing smile that was far too old for a 22-year-old. Walker grinned and slapped her rump and Sabine saw him take his dripping cock in his hand. She turned into the bathroom and closed the door, leaning against it. Sabine felt threatened. She took some deep breaths that made her drip more but the deep breaths did make her feel better. She couldn't believe her little sister had become an adult. "Jaylene, you little strumpet!" Sabine could help smiling." * * * The three of them eased through the doorway into the kitchen, grinning. A sister holding on to one of Walker's arms and pressing a breast against his arm. Well, thought Sabine, if father was only guessing before he sure as hell virtually had it in writing now. He grinned at them. Surely that couldn't be a glint of approval in his eyes? That would be unbelievable. The brothers glanced up and hung their heads and said hi, appearing to have been drinking and whoring all night. "Oh, sorry," Sabine said, quite shocked. "Mom's not here to make breakfast." She went to the stove. "You mother is even better this morning and her smile has returned. She'd been taken to a general ward for at least two days of close observation." "Oh dad, that's wonderful. Jaylene quickly, those cooked sausages and potato leftovers from the fridge and eggs. We have to move fast or own mean will be late for work." "Want to join me on my rounds Walker?" "Dad, Walker is taking my pickup and going 260 miles west to the Carlton Army Depot to pick up all his possessions and won't be back to after midnight." "Yes Gavin. I've decided to settle in this neighborhood. I'll give you my folder with my CV, qualifications and references to look over when I'm gone to look over and see if you have a position for me. There is a list of my former commanding offices and project managers of projects I've worked on and my superiors at army engineer's college where I gained my master's in engineering. One thing I thought we could look at is submitting two designs to Crossroads City Council. I took at look at the city bridge over the river -- there's a deflection in the center span that's not going to pass the next full engineering inspection. I took a closer look and saw that span -- being two cantilevered sections with a small suspended section between them -- shows marks of numerous scrapes and at least one big collusion with barges with containers or other freight loaded too high. That's bad news. We could offer to do two designs -- one for replacing the weakened central span. The other for a replacement bridge with only the two cantilevers not requiring the suspended central section. They would be on piers perhaps ten feet higher than the present piers. We can argue that with climbing oil prices bulk freighting by river barge is going to make a big comeback, get paid for the designs and will luck win the contract for construction." "Well spotted Walker. The bridge as hit by a barge carrying a crane during a flood last spring and the crane toppled over, almost sinking the barge. There was a hell of a row about it and the legal claims and counter claims continue. An independent engineering consultant was brought after the crane was salvaged from the riverbed and declared the bridge structure safe." "Well his judgment ought to be challenged." "Right, when you come back we'll go and talk to the mayor and his chief engineer. You'll have to prove your points and perhaps you should bring a sketch of your new bridge concept. My two engineers will want to become involved." "No problem. I'll set up a laser beam and photograph it. The city engineers will crap themselves when they see it. If that bridge is hit hard again that suspended span could suffer major structural damage and fail. Being such an old structure it could be in danger of collapsing but that would require a pretty hefty blow or a series of blows to get to that point." "Jesus, I'll fix a meeting with the mayor today. I better tell him your concerns." "Fine, only don't exaggerate and scare the crap out of him." Before Walker left, he found Jaylene, who was getting ready to go to her school teaching job she'd begun three months earlier after completing her studies. "Hi, nice looking outfit. Look Jaylene, last night was great, fantastic in fact, but long term I think it could create problems between Sabine and me. Let's look at it again if a few week's time and away from here, but only if you can establish Sabine really wants it to happen. If she's half-hearted, I don't want it to happen. Is that okay?" "I suppose so but I don't like the sound of having to wait a few weeks." "Fine, then get yourself an alternative." "Well that might happen anyway. But what is the problem." "The potential problem is jealousy. I glimpsed it last night." "But I'm not jealous...oh, but someone else could be." Walker sighed. "You are younger, more athletic and your hunger for sex is greater." "Oh God, I don't want to take you away from my sister." "You won't, but she may fear you will. A cooling off period here will really help, believe me." Sabine walked into the room and asked what was the big secret? "Walker wants us to take a spell from last night. He's worried it might cause a split between us and is really concerned if mom and the boys find out there could be hell to play." "Oh, what a pity. I really enjoyed myself last night, getting highly excited. But what Walker says makes sense. Perhaps the three of us could have the occasional night or even two nights away." "Oh Sabine what a great idea. What do you think Walker?" "Well Jaylene. It's up to you and Sabine to work out. I like the idea but don't want any of us to be half-hearted about it." "Well what about going somewhere this weekend?" "Um Sabine, I think Walker meant occasionally, not weekly." "Correct Jaylene and anyway your mom could be home by the weekend." "Oh yes, mom. She'd skin us alive if she caught us at it," Sabine said. "We must do nothing to upset her." Sabine saw Walker off, saturating him with kisses and went back inside. She was now running the household. She and her father would go mid afternoon to visit Julia in hospital and return after dinner to spend more time with her before returning home. They planned to do that each day until they returned home with Julia. Sabine would prepare the evening meal for Jaylene to cook. Sabine arrived home just a half hour before Walker returned so cooked her tired man late supper and Gavin came out to eat with him. "I accept your references at face value Walker but have done some thinking. We are bit light on work at the moment. I'll have to wait until one of my engineers leaves before I can hire you, if you are prepared to wait that long. We have our meeting with the mayor at 11;00 in the morning -- it's almost morning now -- and if you are convincing enough that could produce consultancy work for you. I can give you a spare office to use as your base. It's beside mine and both are secure. I'll also find you some work and already have. I called Colonel Monks at Fort Rex to thank him for the chopper and support this morning and got talking. He's received funding for a multi-purpose steel-framed sports stadium, much larger than the one it replaces. They have the design concept but need working drawings done and construction needs to be supervised. Part of the project requires the safe diversion of a stream that encroaches some way in to the far end of the new structure. He said that are in a long line waiting for design and engineering allocation and I suggested you. He's unable to engage civilian engineers but I pointed out you were in Army Reserve. He called back when I was on the way to the hospital this afternoon and said he had received authority to engage you. We visit him and his executive officers mid morning Friday." "That's great. The Army operates a scale of fees, under civilian rates but still good enough. Thanks Gavin, much appreciated. I think you'll find this will get us in sweet with Fort Rex." "This bridge thing you will discuss with the mayor tomorrow, Sabine asked. "What is a deflection?" "As far as I could determine with naked eye, the structure remains in alignment, which is what the consultant checked out, but I'm positive it has sunk in the middle above the navigation channel after the impact weakened the anchoring pins between the anchor arms and that suspended section. The concrete roadway is holding things together but I wouldn't be surprised if a very detailed examination didn't find cracking." "Oh god." "The mayor may say that too Sabine but he won't want the city's main bridge falling down," her father said. I guess everything diverts to Weymouth and Jennings, both newer crossings, for two years if the existing bridge has to be demolished without upsetting river traffic too much and the new one constructed." The day before Julia was due to return home Sabine accompanied Walker to pick up his possessions in store at Carlton Army Depot. They left early on the 260-mile journey and on the way home stopped off at a motel advertising it had a huge pool and spa. They had a lovely time frolicking in the water and then had massages before going to dinner. Sabine Draws Gun on Walker "Mom is ever so grateful for what you did for her," Sabine said, when they were waiting for mains. "She makes no bones about it. She credits you with saving her life." "Yeah, but so what. She would have done the same for me." Sabine giggled. "That's exactly what mom said you would say." Walker grinned. She likes me and wants to mother me I bet." "Well try this. She told dad you are I are to have the guest suite. If we have guests they can have my old room. She also wants the boys out of the house so you don't feel crowded." "I say yes to the guest suite with thanks but say no to the boys being thrown out of their home -- at least not until your dad builds houses for them. It's their home until that is done. Could you tell your mother my thoughts on that and the fact the value having the family about at breakfast and at dinner time." "We you ought to win out there because dad doesn't want to toss out the boys." "Good. Phone him tonight and tell him. Phone him now -- he'll be on his way to visit your mom." Sabine went out to make the call. She returned and said dad said to thank you and added mom doesn't want to toss out the boys anyway. He made another proposal and I said yes and hope you agreed. He said he and mom would like to build a house for you and me." "And you want me to agree to that?" Sabine looked alarmed and said in a small voice, "Yes." "Well that's okay then. You better not take me too much for granted." "I suppose you have been thinking about a wedding?" "Um it's not too early to think about that is it?" "I don't think so. I left the army to start a family. The army had fraternity but is not my idea of family." "Oh Walker, that is wonderful to hear. I only want a small wedding." "My too. What about your mother?" "She is not a great social person. Small would suit her. She'll give you anything you want by way of venue and trappings. Where and how would you like to be married?" "You might not like this." "Oh dear." "I want the marriage service to take place about the place where I first met you, on the train heading to White Rock Junction." "Oh darling, how novel and how dreamingly romantic. We can have the railway company pull out all the seats in a carriage so everyone can crowd into the one carriage. I love it." Walker smiled. "Well don't pull a gun on me to ensure I say the words "I do." THE END
