This story is a continuation of the Shadows of Resentment series. In this chapter, we learn if they find a way to make their relationship work. Again, let me reiterate, I am no expert on anything military, so I used my imagination freely here. It is not my intention to offend any of the great people who have sacrificed and served in any branch of the military. So please remember this in a fictional piece of writing and not meant to be taken literally. Right now, this will end this story. However, who knows, one day we may comeback for a visit. We'll see. I want to thank all of you that have read anything I've written and let you know how much it means to me. I hope you enjoy this chapter and remember to vote and comment after you have read it. Thank you. IR2R, Darius and Cynthia ended up stationed in different parts of the world for a couple of years. But they were determined to stay together. Many wondered how they did it. Well, Darius loved her and since they had other commitments, he knew they'd be apart for a while. But as far as he was concerned, LaCynthia Knicks was it for him. They talked on the phone as often as they could. They talked through Skype. They talked all day on holidays. When they earned any kind of extended leave, they tried to meet up in some part of the world. So over the next few years, they communicated electronically and maybe spent time with each other at least twice. Was it easy? No, and Darius was afraid she might grow tired of him and find a handsome doctor to love. Although he never admitted, Deidre's betrayal with Jason made him feel vulnerable. Darius often found himself thinking, Cynthia's really smart and beautiful. Those guys there have so much in common with her. I'm just a mechanic. What if she meets someone else? Can I let her go if she does? I don't want to lose her. Cynthia was beautiful, and true to form, men loved asking her out. However, she quickly cleared up any notions that she was available and remained steadfast and faithful to her man. Cynthia knew that Darius had self-doubt and feared she'd leave him for someone else, but she could never hurt him that way. He was her man, and that was that. Every time she talked to him, she reminded him of that fact. They spent the first Christmas after the shooting together. They only had a few days and arranging it was complicated, but they needed to see each other. Darius who had been stationed in Africa now for months, traveled to Europe, where Cynthia joined him. They relished being in each other's company. It was at this moment when Cynthia saw how vulnerable Darius really was. After spending their first night making love, Darius and Cynthia awoke the next morning in each other's arms. Cynthia moved to go to the restroom, but Darius held her tighter. He didn't want her to go away from him. "Baby, bathroom. I need to go." Cynthia whispered. "Oh, sorry, baby. I just didn't want to let go for a minute." Darius apologized releasing her. When Cynthia got up, Darius got up and waited his turn as well. She came out, and after he'd gone is and finished, they went out for breakfast. "So, how is everything in your training? I mean," swallowing he continued, "are you learning everything you need?" Cynthia looked at him and saw fear. "Darius, what do you really want to know? Subtlety is not your strong suit." "Cynthia, you're beautiful and you'll be a doctor. There are some handsome men there and..." he dropped his head. He didn't like feeling fear like this but Deidre saw Jason everyday and he was right there with her and too blind to see she'd moved on. Cynthia was on the other side of the world, she could find someone else. "Do you trust me, Darius? That's what it boils down to. You told me yourself that Deidre had checkout of the relationship long before Jason came into the picture. So be honest, that's not your real issue. Tell me the truth." Cynthia demanded. Darius was stunned and realized this woman knew him. She understood. He could be honest and she wouldn't lead him on. "I'm a mechanic Cynthia, just a mechanic. You can have any man you want, someone so much better for you that can advance your career. Are you sure you want me?" He asked. His heart pounded as he waited for her response. If she said, umm, maybe, he didn't know. She meant the world to him and he needed to be reassured that she chose him. Cynthia stared at the handsome man sitting across from her. She never knew he doubted himself this much. Does he know who he is? How can he think I'd ever want someone else? Well, let me set my man straight. "Darius, are there women where you are in Africa? I mean, where you work, there are women mechanics, specialist right?" Cynthia asked and waited for affirmation. "Yea, but what does that have to do with anything?" Darius never saw another woman once he saw her. "Well, baby. It flows both ways. You could meet another woman that shares your interest. You're away from me on the other side of the world. Do I need to be worried?" Cynthia asked crossing her arms. Struggling to hide her smirk as her big, buffed man was visibly appalled at her suggestion. "Cynthia, I could never do that to you. I haven't even looked at another woman, let alone...." Darius stopped when he realized she was laughing. Trying his best to look ticked off, Darius feigned anger. "Hey, that's not funny." "Yes it is. How could I possibly want anyone else? I have found perfection." She leaned across the table and kissed him. "Baby, you're it for me. Never doubt me again." Darius smiled relieved. He didn't realize how badly he needed to hear those words from her. "Baby, are you finished eating? We only have two more days, and we need to make some memories." Darius suggested, his eyes smoky with desire. When they arrived back at their hotel, Darius took his time showing her woman how much her appreciated her. He kissed every inch of her. When he reached the scar on her shoulder, he kissed it longer than usual. "Darius, what's wrong?" Cynthia asked when he stopped at her shoulder. "I almost lost you. I never want to go through that again." He whispered. "Oh Darius" Cynthia whispered as she held him close. Then she kissed him. Gently covering her body with his, she accepted him inside her and made slow, long sweet love to her man. The two of them only left the hotel to eat and spent every single moment of their time with each other. Soon they had to report back to their respective bases. The hard part was, not knowing when they would see each other again. So Cynthia's flight was called first. Darius held her close and told her he loved her. He stood stoically and watched her leave and boarded her plane. Next his flight was called, and he soon returned to base. Over the next few months they called each other often. Darius made sure to call and check on his girls and keep check on his parents. He'd actually asked Cynthia to check in weekly for him, because sometimes he couldn't get through. She didn't mind because she considered them hers as well. Cynthia saved all of her leaves for an extended fall break. So for three full weeks, she could go anywhere she chose. Darius was stationed in a small country Kano in Nigeria. He serviced the vehicles that were used to carry necessary supplies to needy villages. Cynthia planned to fly over and visit with him. Darius was anxiously waiting for her to arrive. He had not seen her physically in almost a year. He was bursting. He hoped when he did get a chance to be with her that he didn't hurt her. She was scheduled to arrive on Wednesday. Darius petitioned his commander for the next several days off so that he could spend time with his lady. The commander wanted to refuse because they had several vehicles that needed major repair and Granger was the best, but Granger had not taken a day off since reporting to Kano over a year ago. So he granted him the leave. Darius stood in the airport waiting for Cynthia's plane to arrive. Soon it did. He wondered if she'd like the new him. He was stockier, had grown a slight beard. She'd been around good-looking, clean shaven doctors for months, would she find him lacking? Then he laughed at himself. They'd already talked about this and he knew he had nothing to worry about. Soon her flight landed and the people unloaded. Darius stood looking out of the window feeling like a schoolboy waiting on a date with his dream girl. Then, he saw her. Her deep chocolate complexion contrasted against the burnt orange top she wore with a pair of brown trousers. She stood tall and her graceful movements reminded him of watching a graceful gazelle dart across the African plains. She went to retrieved her luggage and within minutes, she saw her man across the crowded breezeway. Cynthia saw him and she forgot to breath. He was everything she dreamed of and she missed him horribly. Momentarily forgetting her luggage, she started running to him as he ran toward her. With seconds they were holding each other so tightly. "Cynthia, you're here. Thank goodness, you're here." Darius whispered in awe. "Oh Darius, I missed you." Cynthia sighed as she held him. Then she kissed him. Darius surrendered to her kiss as his desire for her surged. "Wait, let's go." He whispered. She retrieved her bags and he carried them as he held on to her waist as he led her to the jeep his commanding officer allowed him to use. Cynthia was tired the twelve hour flight took a lot out of her, and she couldn't wait to get to her hotel and take a hot shower. Darius had already made reservation at a local hotel for them. He reserved the room for the entire week. As soon as they entered the room, Darius held and kissed his woman. He didn't want to let her go. They hadn't seen each other in two years and that was not acceptable to him. Darius knew two things at this point. One was he refused to live his life without this amazing woman, and two, she had to become his wife. He didn't care when or where, but he had to marry this girl. "Darius, baby. I need to shower." Cynthia whispered as she gently pulled away. It was hot and she'd been on a plane for twelve hours. She needed to freshen up. Then she looked at him. He looked different, more distinguished. He had grown a beard. She liked it. He was hers, and she missed him. "Ummm, you know what baby." Cynthia whispered as she entwined her arms around his neck. "We could save water and shower together, right." Then she turned to head to the bathroom. Darius was frozen, but soon his legs started working and he followed his woman to the bathroom. They watched each other as they undressed. Before long they stood before each other naked. Darius's eyes trailed down Cynthia's body and he frowned. "Baby, what's wrong?" Cynthia asked, clearly confused by his reaction. She made sure she had everything taken care of for him before she left Washington. "Baby, you cut your hair. Why?" Darius asked staring at the neatly trimmed bush at the apex of her thighs. "Darius!" Cynthia yelped and moved her hand to cover her crotch. "It was too thick. I just trimmed it." She explained mortified that he pointed out the obvious. "Baby, never be embarrassed in front of me." Darius reassured her as he pulled her close. He didn't mean to embarrassed her. She loved it. He'd acquired new muscles that fit well in his much stockier frame. "I love you Cynthia. You're my world." He whispered as he kissed her. His cock was almost purple and stabbing Cynthia's stomach. "Um, Baby. Let me take care of him, and she gently grabbed his penis and began to stroke. Darius groaned. He was bursting and almost came as soon as she touched him. "Cyn, Baby, Wait! Ahhhhhhh!" By the third stroke Darius shot his load clear across the small bathroom right on the a mirror. Several thick ropes of cum ejaculated from hi. 'No, No, No! Baby ststsssstoppp!. Don't, too much!" Darius stammered weakened by the intensity of his orgasm. Realizing how weak he was, Cynthia had him to sit for a moment. She rubbed his back while he regained his equilibrium. When she saw that he was fine, she turned and quickly filled the tub with hot water so they could take an extended bath. Darius was back in control and climbed in the tub first then he helped Cynthia to join him. "Baby," he whispered as she leaned back on his muscular chest. "I didn't take care of you. I'm sorry." He kissed her neck as his hands kneaded her breast. Cynthia was tired from her trip, but she was horny as well. She hadn't had her man in a little over two years and they had a lot of catching up to do. Soon the water cooled and they got out of the tub. Darius dried her off. Taking time to kiss each and every inch of her body, leading her to the bed, he lay her down. Darius spread her thighs and Darius tasted her for the first time in two years. Soon, he made love to his lover. Climbing on top of her and laying between her dark chocolate things, Darius entered his woman. Her sheath fit him like a glove. He loved her long and slowly. He claimed her and as he learned her rhythm. Soon he could tell she was close. He felt her body quiver, he pussy vibrated all over his cock. Darius wanted to pound her, let loose two years of sexual frustration, but he didn't want to hurt her. So he loved her slowly, making sure she reached completion. Cynthia loved being with Darius. It had been so long two years. She could see he was trying to be gentle, but she didn't want gentle. Cynthia wanted to fuck. Soon she came softly as he loved her gently. Darius had not cum yet, and she knew he needed to be a little rough. "Darius, please." Cynthia whispered. "You can be a gentleman later. I need to be fucked. Please fuck me Darius." She groaned. Her plea fired his loins and he snapped. Soon he was pistoning in and out of her at super human speed. Her hungry pussy devoured his steel rod. Soon Darius felt his balls clinched. Before he knew it, he filled her womb with his fertile seed. Darius climax triggered Cynthia's orgasm. She screamed as her voracious orgasm milked Darius dry. So they simply lay in bed holding each other, and eventually drifted off to sleep. Later that day, when they woke up, Darius took Cynthia on a quick tour of Kano. During the tour, he wanted to talk with the high priest of the Nuasa Clan. He had once saved the chieftains daughter and they said he could come to them if he ever had a need. He visited with them as often as he could. "Ah, so she is the one, I see." The priest observed as he and Darius stood and watched Cynthia interact with the children in the tribe. Darius smiled, "She means the word to me. I want to make her my wife." Laughing the priest explained, "You are American, so talk with her first. I will be honored to lead you in the bonding rituals." Darius smiled, then for a brief moment wondered if she'd say no. He decided to take a chance. So walking behind her, he pulled her close and asked her to walk with him. He walked with her to a small tree, and then stopped. Cynthia was confused. Darius had gone completely silent. "Dari-" Cynthia started to ask, but he placed his finger on her lips to silence her. "Cynthia, I love you. I need you in my life. I know we have another eighteen months to serve, but I don't want to wait that long. The Nuasa clan has a binding ceremony, and I am asking you to do it with me. I want you to become my wife. Cynthia, will you go through the ceremony? Will you become my wife? Cynthia was speechless. "Darius, I'd marry you in a heartbeat. Yes. When?" Darius smiled, "Right now? Let's go see the priest." An announcement from the chief and the priest went forward. A celebration ensued. The women took Cynthia to help her prep and dress her in tribal ceremonial robes. The men took Darius to help him prepare for the ritual as well. The chief had already approved the match in traditional Nuasa fashion . Soon it was time for the ceremony. The head priestess led Cynthia to the center of the ceremonial circle where Darius was instructed to wait. Darius had never seen a more beautiful bride than his on their wedding day. Cynthia approached him wearing the traditional dress of a Nuasa princess. The queen in her wisdom ordered that the dress be made when she heard Darius speak of his lady years earlier. She didn't need to know her size because the garment was simple and could be adjusted if needed. Darius watched her flow to him is a sea of pure white trimmed with crimson and gold embroidery. He stood tall looking just as handsome in his traditional wear. His dashiki and trousers seemed tailored made for him. Soon they stood before the priest and the binding ritual began. They recited several chants and performed several short rituals before the final ritual. The priest pierced each of their finger tips and allowed to blood to flow in a ceremonial goblet. A special drink was added and each one of them took a sip. After drinking from the goblet, the ritual was completed and they were bound together for eternity. Darius in true American tradition had to kiss his bride and so he did. The members of the tribe, cheered. They then were allowed time alone and soon changed back into their regular clothes. Cynthia wondered briefly, if they were considered truly man and wife. As far a she was concerned they were. As they were enjoying the tribes celebration of their union, the chief asked to speak with them. They followed him to his office in his home and he presented them with the documents that needed to be filed to make their union legal in Africa as well as the United States. The priest figured something like this might happen when the young American soldier talked about his woman. Then one day he wanted to know about marriages. So he'd actually gotten the forms needed together before hand. All they had to do now was file, a copy of their marriage certificate here in Kano, which Darius would do, and then in the US and Cynthia would take care of that. The newly married couple spent most of the week naked and in bed. At some point they called home and told Darius's family. Then Cynthia called and informed Mysha. Everyone was happy for them. Darius and Cynthia reported to the local base to change their official status, and Cynthia was offered a position with medical detail. She was already a licensed nurse, and could obtain a position instantly. However, as tempting as her staying with him was, she wanted to be a doctor. Darius wanted her to reach that dream. So as much as he hated it, he convinced his wife of less than two weeks to return to the states to finish her studies. His ability to love her so completely, that he'd do anything to help her reach her dreams, made Cynthia love him even more. It was a hard eighteen months, but eventually, Darius came back home and joined his wife. When he landed in the states, he had the ring he'd purchased for her in his bag. He was at a layover in London, when he just happen to wander to a jewelry shop. When he saw the platinum diamond wedding bands with the tribal insignia, nothing else would be good enough for his wife. So he bought a matching set for them. As soon as his flight was headed to Jackson, the first thing he did was call his wife. She was waiting for him at the airport and when he saw her standing there. Everything was right in the world as he held his woman. He missed her so much and never wanted to let her go. Cynthia had purchased a new car and they were signing the papers on their new home this week. But they wanted time alone, so they decided to spend a night in Jackson. The next morning, Darius and Cynthia headed home. Everyone greeted him heartily when they arrived. The twins were so happy to have their Dad home and both girls loved Cynthia. So over the first couple of weeks, they secured a home and moved in. The happy couple spent a few days christening every room in their new home. Out of the Shadows Ch. 05 Cynthia was adamant that Camorra and Camirra have separate rooms in their home. The girls loved the idea. The twins stayed with them for a few days when they first moved in and were allowed to decide how they wanted their rooms decorated. At first Camorra started selecting for the both of them, but Cynthia stopped her and asked Camirra to take her time and choose what she wanted. Camirra blossomed, and happily decorated her own room. Cynthia promised the girls that she'd make sure they were there when their new bedrooms arrived. A few months after moving into the new house, the school year was about to end and the family had two new graduates. The graduation was on Saturday, and everyone came. "Congratulations Graduates. I introduce to you this year's graduating class of Hillside High School." Principal Marks announced to a cheering crowd. Darius's heart almost burst with pride when his two adopted sisters, Rosa Richards and Christiana Marcolini, stood and flung their caps into the air. He had just finished his first full deployment and recently returned to the states. He and Cynthia discussed it and he'd go back to college and earned his credentials to certify himself as automotive engineering specialist. Cynthia would pursue her medical certification. All of his team was here and they hadn't seen each other in a few years, so this time was very special for them. Momma was over the moon when all six original team members, along with Danny's partner, came home. She was a little angry at first, but when she saw the happiness that radiated from Cynthia and Darius, she forgave them for getting married in Africa where he was station instead of waiting for a huge family gathering. Darius and Cynthia took a day and drove over to Gospel to visit Mysha and Clay. Cynthia laughed when she thought of the squealing Mysha did two years ago when she called and told her she was married. She made her promise to allow them to host a reception for them. The visit was nice and they even promised to come back and attend worship services one Sunday. Darius decided to wear just regular clothes today. Even though, both Rosa and Christiana begged him to wear his uniform. However, Horse wore his and they were more than happy. Darius stood under a big oak tree near the football field, where the ceremony took place, watching as Cynthia walked toward him. He couldn't help but smile as the platinum and diamond wedding band she wore glittered in the sunshine. She was his and at last his life was complete. Kerrie, who was holding her three year old daughter and standing with her husband, stopped Cynthia for a moment. Kerrie had finished her first tour of duty and chose not to reenlist. She was now married to Lieutenant Garner and expecting their second child. Their first was a little girl that was born approximately seven months after they married. Cynthia Maria was as cute as a button and the spitting image of her momma. Before Cynthia reached him, she was stopped by Maria, Maria Tate now. Horse asked her to marry him as soon as he finished Ranger school. Maria still worked in computers and technology and she was considering reenlisting. She helped design new defense programs for the army. Apparently, Maria had something important to say as she commanded attention from both Cynthia and Kerrie. The three women wandered off to talk. Cynthia Maria was left held safely in the arms of her overprotective daddy. Darius knew how Garner felt; he was still overprotective of his girls as well. "Man, look at you." Horse greeted Darius as he walked up behind him. "Darius smiled. "Horse, I know. Man,how are you? Look at you an Army Ranger, married. Old Horse all domesticated." "Man, I was away from my girl long enough." Horse joked looking at Maria. "She's my everything man. Too bad I've got to share her in a few months." Horse added tongue in cheek. "You old dog! Congratulations man." Darius was happy for his friend. He recalled when he learned about his girls. He was scared, excited, happy, anxious, proud. He felt a plethora of emotions. Just like that, his two angels rushed to him each hugging him close. Camirra held on a little longer than Camorra, who no longer wanted to be seen as a baby. They girls came to the ceremony with their new stepfather Jason. He walked up and greeted Darius and Horse. "Hey guys," Jason said. Deidre was at home with their daughter Tyrianna. Jason was so in love with all of his girls they had him wrapped around their fingers. Deidre often ended up being the bad guy that always vetoed everything. Now that Darius was back for good, Deidre was relieved. Now someone else could play the bad guy to Jason's good guy routine. "Hey, Jace. How are you man? How's the baby?" Darius greeted his friends. Jason smiled, "She's going to be fine. She has bad allergies and they make her misera-" Camorra rudely cut him off. "Daddy, can we go find Rosa and Chrissy?" Eleven year old Camorra Rose asked Darius sweetly, completely turning her back to Jason. Darius didn't like the level of disrespect his daughter was showing. "Camorra, I love you. But you will not disrespect your stepfather. You know that is not allowed and it will not be tolerated by any of us." Darius explained to his wayward daughter firmly. Jason stiffened; Rory's message was loud and clear. He wasn't her father so she didn't need his permission. Jason looked at Darius, but Darius held up his hand and signal that he let him handle this. Camirra froze also. She knew what Rory was trying to do. Rory wanted to go to a party at a popular girl's house and Jason found out that the girl's parents were not going to be there, so he told Rory, that she couldn't attend. Cammie was relieved, because she didn't want to go to that party, but she'd go to keep her sister out of trouble. Rory was so angry. He can't tell us what to do. He's not our father. I bet Daddy would let us go. Just because he married Momma and had a baby doesn't give him any rights over us. Wait until Daddy gets here, I'll show him. she fumed. Darius recognized what was happening immediately in his daughters, and he was not going to allow it to happen. He looked at Cammie, "Camirra, go find Chrissy and Rosa for us. Rory will stay with us." Cammie looked at Rory, and then rushed off to find Chrissy and Rosa. Rory stamped her foot furiously in a display of temper. She didn't want to have to stay over here with old people. Jason used to be cool, but after Momma married him, he changed. Now, he never let them do anything without checking with Momma first. It was even worse now that Daddy was back. Cammie should have stayed with her. She couldn't wait to get away, the traitor. Camorra rose fumed at the injustices done to her. Jason was embarrassed. The twins always showed him respect, and he didn't understand the animosity Rory had against him. He knew she wasn't going to some party, but her actions actually hurt. He'd dedicated the last few years of his life to his family and now. He just didn't know. "Hey Baby," Cynthia greeted Darius as she finally made it over to him. Rory glared at her. Cynthia caught it and was unconcerned. Rory was throwing a tantrum like she always did. She'd never witnessed one, but she'd heard about them. "Hey Beautiful." Darius kissed her and held her for a moment. "I missed you. Never be away from me again, promise." He whispered in her ear. Rory was furious, not only was she forced to sit with old people, but now they were being mushy. "Ug!" She yelled out. Cynthia looked at her wayward stepdaughter immediately. Rory felt her censure and it made her even angrier. "Darius, let me talk to my stepdaughter." Cynthia whispered in his ear. Darius smiled, knowing that his sweet little angel was about to meet her match. "Camorra, come for a stroll with me." Cynthia suggested. Rory looked at her stepmother and had to make a choice. Cynthia wasn't like Jason, she meant business. Daddy would back her up, like Momma always backed Jason up. So she stood and prepared to take a walk with her stepmother. "Cynthia," Rory said sweetly. "I'm sor-" Cynthia stopped her. "Camorra Rose, I am not your Mom, your Dad, or Jason, so don't try to play me. You hurt Jason and you'd did it on purpose, just because you could. Girl, that is wrong and you know it." Cynthia stopped walking and had Rory to face her. "Do you know how lucky you are, Rory?" Cynthia asked. Rory froze. She'd heard the lecture many times, and didn't really want to hear it again. Cynthia inhaled because Rory's actions bothered her. Something had to be done before she got out of hand. She had an idea. She just hoped her parent's agreed. "Don't worry. I'm not going to lecture you. But, I am going to let Deidre know about this. You know she will be disappointed." Cynthia explained. They walked back to where everyone, including the graduates had gathered. Cammie and Rory exchanged a look, silently communicating with each other. Cynthia pulled him aside. " Darius, I know they are not mine, but they need to be separated for a while." He started to refuse immediately then the twins exchanged a look. The glare Rory sent to Cammie was clear. She'd talk to her later. He did this to Derrick many times when he forced him to go along with him. Darius looked up and caught his brother's eye. Derrick recognized the look for what it was as well and he knew Cynthia was right. Soon, they left the school and headed home to Marge and Marvin's house. They had a huge party for the two girls. Gunther was there and seeing his daughter flourish, he cried. Dawn hugged her brother and shared in his joy. Nick understood, because his baby girl, was now heading to college. Nick and Gunther decided to buy them a similar gift. So, while everyone was inside. They snuck out to get the gifts for their girls. Danny and Jonathan was in charge of getting the girls to go outside. So they decide to have a fake fight. Chrissy loved Danny, and they knew she'd follow him if he ran out. Rosa would feel obligated to stand with and follow Jonathan. So when Gunther and Nick gave the signal, the two men started their fake argument. True to form Danny headed for the door followed by a concerned Chrissy, those two were followed by a fake concerned Jonathan and Rosa. When the two girls got out of the house, sitting at the front were two brand new small sedans. One was purple and the other was green. They squealed and each girl ran to their father. Everyone cheered. Darius, Cynthia, and Jason took the moment to go to Jason's house and talk with Deidre about the girls. "Hey, Deidre baby. We're here." Jason called quietly. He was careful not to wake Tyrianna. "Hey Baby, I'm sorry." "What did Rory do now?" Deidre asked, frustrated, because her daughter was developing such a horrible attitude. "I'm sorry. Hey Cynthia, girl, Darius." "Hey, Deidre." Cynthia greeted her friend. "How's Ty feeling?" she queried. "She's finally sleeping. These allergies are so hard on her, poor baby." Deidre explained. Then looking at Darius and Jason she asked, "Guys, what did Rory do?" "Hmmm, do you guys find it strange that Dee didn't ask what did Cammie do?" Darius deadpanned. All three adults faced him, causing Darius to take a deep breath. Watching his daughter today made him realized that he had to intervene. Deidre may not like his suggestion, but as their father he had to do something. He balked at the thought at first but after talking to Cynthia, he was sure it would help. "Dee, I know you may not like this, but we need to split them up." Darius interrupted. Deidre almost argued and then she just looked at him. Jason and Cynthia moved to the side and stayed neutral. "Dee, she's like me." Darius explained. "She's dominating Cammie, and that's not fair." Darius inhaled. "I'm not talking permanently, just for this summer. Cammie needs to be able to function without always trying to shield her sister." Deidre looked at him, thinking of the twins she said, "Darius, they've never been separated. What if they can't handle it?" "Then we adjust, but I think they need time to grow into their own person. Even after this summer, they need to do separate things. It's alright for them to be together, but they don't have to be together all of the time." He explained to their mother. Darius looked up at the ceiling. "I can't allow Rory to hurt her sister. She's the dominate one, and Cammie will end up paying. Dee, in this, I know what I'm talking about." Deidre sat down along with Cynthia and Jason. They talked and reached a decision. When the girls finished school the next week, Darius and Cynthia would get Camorra for the first month of summer. She'd stay with them, and Darius would have her work in the garage with him. At night, she'd spend time with Cynthia. She'd call her Mom every night and call her sister daily. At the end of the first month, they'd switch girls. But for two months, the girls would spend time apart. Before long, Darius called and asked Nick if he and Jasmine could drop the girls off at home. The girls walked into their house to face four parents. The adults explained their plans for the summer. "No, no, no.!" Rory screamed. "You just want to be rid of me. Momma, I-" Jason tried to calm her, "Rory, sweetie-" Rory turned him, "Shut up, Jason. I hate you. You're not anything to-" Deidre gasped; she'd heard enough as did Darius, "Camorra Rose Granger, that's enough. Go to your room this instant." Deidre demanded. Rory looked at her sister, "Come on Cammie." She said as she stood to storm out of the room. Cammie stood to follow her sister. "No, Cammie, sit back down." Darius looked at his defiant eleven year old daughter and calmly stated. "Rory. Go to your room, now." Cammie sat quietly with tears in her eyes, she always went with Rory. Rory needed her to help her calm down. Cynthia sat by her and embraced the little girl. She promised her that it would be alright. School would be out in a week, but after Rory's outburst, the adults agreed that she would go home with her Dad that night. Darius would drive her and her sister to school over the next couple of days. Darius walked to her door and knocked. Then he opened the door and saw his preteen daughter sulking. "Camorra, pack your school clothes for this week as well as some everyday clothes and sleep wear. Cynthia and I are taking you home with us." Darius smiled, knowing his daughter. "You'd better not start screaming and wake that baby." Rory was stunned, because her Dad knew all of her tricks. How would she get away with anything with him and Cynthia? "Baby girl," he smiled, "you have ten minutes." Darius told her and then went back to the front room. Camorra came out of her room carrying her bag. Her sister hugged her before she left with their dad. Camirra stood in the window and watched her dad ride away with her sister with tears streaming down her face. Deidre's heart broke for her so she hugged her daughter to reassure her. "Cammie, it'll be alright. You should go to bed sweetie." "Okay, Momma. Goodnight Momma, goodnight Jason" she whispered as she gave each of them a tight hug. Her heart was breaking, she'd never been away from her sister and she didn't know if she could handle this. Jason hugged her, "I'm sorry, Cammie. I didn't-" "Jason, it's not your fault. Rory was mean to you." she exhaled. "Maybe Daddy and Cynthia can help her stop being so mean." Meanwhile, Darius and Cynthia arrived home with a ticked off eleven year old in the backseat. Darius got out and opened the door for Cynthia and Camorra. He retrieved her bag and showed her to her room. Camorra opened her mouth to complain when Darius stopped her. "Cynthia, baby," he said to his wife. "I need to talk to my daughter. I'll come to bed in a few. Don't go to sleep." He whispered. Darius stepped out and let Rory dress for bed before walking in. He sat on her bed and spoke. "Rory, I love you and your sister more than my own life. That's why I'm going to help you. I can't let you keep acting like this." "Daddy, Cammie can't sleep in a room by herself." Rory whispered tearfully. "I'll tell Jason. I'm sorry. Can I please go home now?" "No, and you know crocodile tears don't work on me." Darius informed his little girl. "This is for the best. You'll see." Then he kissed her forehead and told her to go to sleep. For the first and only time, Camorra and Camirra were separated. And both girls cried themselves to sleep. Darius stood outside Camorra door and listened to her weep. He knew being separated from her twin would be hard, but he also knew that they needed to develop individually more. Cynthia met Darius in hall."Is she alright?" Cynthia queried. Darius loved his wife. She got him and didn't judge. He had told her about his childhood and the shit he pulled. That's why Rory's behavior bothered him. He was not going to let her continue the way she was heading. "You know what, she'll be fine. She just used to having her way." Darius reminded himself as he spoke to his wife. Cynthia wrapped her arms around her husband and they retired to their bedroom. "Well, Mrs. Granger, your husband needs you and he will not be denied." Darius teased his wife. "Um, Mr. Granger, I have no problem taking care of my husband, but he'd better keep the noise down." Cynthia whispered tongue in cheek, "His young daughter is here, sleeping." "Ummmm, really." Darius responding as he peeled away the few layers of clothes that stood between him and his wife. "Well, wife of mine. Let's see how quiet we can be." Darius whispered covering his wife's body with his. Then he kissed her. Soon, he was sliding in and out of her hot sheath. Darius loved making love to his wife. He couldn't believe his fortune, yet he would be forever grateful. The first month was the hardest. But Darius took it in stride. The first morning Rory lashed out spewing hate filled words, he knew exactly how to handle it. Darius made time everyday to talk with Rory. Nothing she wanted to discuss was too silly for him. He recalled being that age and thinking he had to be the leader. He recalled how daunting that feeling could be. So everyday at work, they talked. At the end of the first month, Rory didn't want to go home. At Dad's house she had her own room and Cynthia listened to her. She missed seeing Cammie everyday, but she discovered that she liked quiet, when she was alone, she could draw and it was quiet. Cynthia surprised her and gave her an artist kit, complete with canvas and easels. She didn't have to be in charge all of the time. During the day, she helped Dad at his garage and they talked. She stocked shelves, made sure the cooler stayed full of drinks, she even answered phones when the shop was extra busy. One day she was sweeping the driveway when a girl walked over, and introduced herself. She lived down the street and she got to hang out with her for her last two weeks. Robin was eleven and her family had just moved to town. One day they walked to the park and met even more kids. Rory had made new friends and discovered things she didn't know about herself. At the end of month one, Rory wanted to go see Cammie, but she didn't want to leave her new friend. She explained to Robin that she was moving back home with her Mom and her sister would be here. She hoped she and Cammie could be friends too. Camirra Lace was a different child once she was away from her sister. Deidre realized that she talked more. She didn't mind watching the baby. Some evenings, she'd play hoops with Jason, and like her Dad, she was good. One Saturday, Deidre suggested that Cammie walk to the park and see if any of their friends were there. Cammie froze. She'd never gone to the park without Rory. It was then that Deidre realized how dependent she was on her sister. So for the first few days, either she or Jason walked with her. Out of the Shadows Ch. 05 One day Jason walked her to the park when two of the girls from school came over. Cammie played with the girls and made plans to meet the next day. So for the next three weeks, Camirra grew into her own. She discovered she was good at sports, and that she liked to write stories. At night, when Ty was sleeping, she could create her own stories. Instead of having Darius drive Rory home, they would drive Cammie to them. Robin had walked over to say bye to her new friend when Jason drove up. Rory asked her friend to wait and rushed to greet her family. She hugged Jason first and apologized, sincerely this time, then her Mom, Tyrianna and finally Cammie. "Come on, I want you to meet someone." Rory told her sister as she dragged her off to meet her best friend. Robin was surprised because she didn't realize that Rory had a twin. But she was polite and invited Cammie to visit her the next day. Robin headed home and promised she'd be back the next evening the show Cammie to her house. Rory showed Cammie to her room and the two girls talked for hours. When it was time to leave, Rory didn't want to go. Cammie didn't want to leave Mom or Jason either. And she'd even miss Tyrianna. Then month two began, Cammie wasn't sure what to expect. She liked Cynthia because Cynthia let her be herself. She helped Dad at the garage but they didn't talk as much as he would like. At night she talked with Cynthia and she seemed to really open up. Both women loved cleaning, and Darius felt like he lived in a sterilized hospital. During down time she wrote in her journals. Cynthia noticed this and brought her an electronic journal. Cammie loved it. She also gave her various stationary, pens, and bindings. Cammie became fast friend with Robin, but Robin didn't like sports. She wanted to play hoops so one day, she decided to play on the goal over the garage. Darius came home and saw her playing. He decided to join, and like that she now had something she could too share with her dad. His little girl could hoop, hmmm, he liked that. Smiling he walked into the house with a smirk on his face. Rory's attitude had improved tremendously. She helped Momma with Ty. She helped with housework. Jason was polite to her but mainly kept his distance. One day, Momma had to work late and Rory decided to work on a picture. Jason was watching Tyrianna. Rory sat with her sketch pad in hand and watched her stepfather. He was a nice man and she regretted being mean to him. Even though he said he forgave her, he didn't really talk to her anymore. So, Rory decided to give him a present. Maybe he would believe she was really sorry then. So with very careful strokes and attention to details, She drew him capturing each line and crinkle in his face. Before long the portrait was finished. Rory stood and walked to where Jason was sitting. "Jason, I drew something for you." She whispered. Jason looked up and took the paper she was giving him. Looking at the picture, he was speechless. The sketch, the drawing, was perfection. "Rory, you just drew this. It's amazing. Thank you." He said as he embraced her lightly. Soon her arms encircled his neck and she held him tightly. "I'm really sorry Jason. I shouldn't have said that stuff to you." She wept. Jason's heart melted and he hoped she was sincere, so he embraced her and whispered, "Rory, baby. It's alright." "Hey, we've got to go out. I've got to buy a frame to frame my portrait. Did you sign it? " Jason asked. Rory looked confused, "Um, no." "Girl, an artist always signs their work." Jason explained, "Sign it so I can have your first piece when you become famous." Rory grabbed her marker and quickly signed her work. Jason put Tyrianna in her car seat and Rory next to her and they drove to the mall to find the right frame. When they made it back home, Deidre was wondering where they were. Jason, who was as excited as a kid at Christmas told her all about the portrait that Rory drew. Late that night, Deidre came into the girls room to talk to Rory. "You know that picture means the world to him Rory, thank you for drawing it." Deidre whispered. Rory's heart filled with pride and love for her stepfather. She honestly regretted hurting him and vowed she'd never treat him that way again. Then she sat and they talked. Deidre loved talking with Rory, her little girl was fascinating, and quite the artist. Deidre realized that a lot of her bluster was simply fear, and once she felt safe she calmed down. This little girl was so much like her daddy; she was almost his mirror image. Rory had no trouble making friends, so when she wasn't helping with Tyrianna, she'd hang out with her friends. Rory learned that Cammie was good in sports. She hated sports but if that was something Cammie wanted to do she'd be there. Summer came to an end and both girls had to come back home. Deidre felt bad because at Darius' home the girls had their own rooms, but at home with her they had to share. Well Jason and Darius talked and came up with a solution. They could add on. They had the yard space and they just needed permits. Jason obtained the necessary paperwork and with Darius's help they hired a contractor to add two rooms on to their house. Soon Camirra and Camorra had their own room at both their homes. The twins blossomed. Camirra joined the basketball team and Camorra joined an art club. Although they still did a lot of things together, their parents made sure they had time to pursue their individual interest, and both girls thrived. Two years later, Darius was putting on his tuxedo and filled with excitement. Today was a big day, Rosa was getting married. Darius walked into the bathroom to find his wife Cynthia sitting on the toilet crying silently. He feared another test was negative, and she was heartbroken again. It killed him to see her hurting, and he wished this as something he could fix. "Baby, look at me. We just started trying. Listen, if it's meant to be, it'll happen. But baby, please don't cry." Darius tried to comfort his wife. "Baby," Cynthia whispered, "We're pregnant. We're having a baby." Then she showed him the test. Sure enough the blue line was clearly visible. Darius was speechless. He was going to be a daddy. He and Cynthia would have their own bundle of joy. He held her and soon they realized the time. As soon as they dressed and were headed to the church, Cynthia got a phone call and had to report to the hospital. A three car pile-up had occurred and one of the occupants needed emergency surgery. As the only surgeon available for miles around, she was constantly on call for emergencies. "No, baby, I'll miss Rosa's wedding. She'll never forgive me." She said wishing she could be in two places at the same time. "Listen, I'll drive you to the hospital. Those people that were in the accident need you, baby. I'll explain to Rosa and the family. Believe me, they'll understand." Darius reassured her as he drove her to the hospital. "I'll be back here to wait for you as soon as the wedding is over. I love you honey." He kissed her gently. Darius made it to the church just in time to join Deidre and Jason in their pew. Soon the bridal march began. It was beautiful. Then his thirteen year old daughters walked down the aisle and they were breathtaking. He and Jason had to talk about upping security. "Deidre told him to calm down, but Jason agreed with him. Soon Chrissy came down followed by the bride, Rosa. And she was truly beautiful. Darius reflected for a moment and was grateful that his family all of them overcame everything in the past. He wished his beautiful, now pregnant, wife hadn't gotten that emergency call and could have been here to share this moment. He would make sure to describe the events for her in vivid and clear details. As he sat and listened to the vows, he sighed because he was blessed. Several years ago, when he enlisted, he made the right choice. THE END Thank you again for reading this chapter of the story. Please remember to comment and vote.
