"Shiznit, I'm late again!" she thought frantically. Her boss had warned that if she wasn't on time this morning, he was gonna fire her. Jumping out of bed, she ran for the bathroom. Yanking her oversized T-shirt over her head, she started the shower and gasped when the cold water hit her skin. Scrubbing quickly, she ran out again, and just when the water was getting warm. Toweling off while she stared into her closet, she noticed a window washer gaping in at her. Blushing hotly, she marched over to her window and yanked it open, clutching the towel to her chest. "Did ya get a good enough look, or should I model for you?" she demanded, while still noticing that this particular window-washer was very attractive. He had dark, messy hair, and sparkling green eyes. God, but she was a sucker for the green eyes. Greg stared at the furious beauty before him, mesmerized, and very happy that he happened to be doing this window. Quickly regaining his cool he responded with a friendly grin. "Well, you are quite fetching, but I think I may have had all the glaring I can take for one day. Ye better watch it mate, looks can kill." With a last parting grin he moved the lift up to the next level, disappearing slowly. Andy was half tempted to stare up after him, but her self respect had already taken a major hit this morning. Swinging the window shut, she glanced at the clock again and gasped. Quickly tugging some underwear and a bra on, she rushed back to her closet, pulled on a pair of light blue jeans, and a white spaghetti string tank. A colorful sarong around the waist and a white beret completed the outfit. She shoved her books into her faded messenger bag, grabbed her purse and ran out the door. As she reached the steps descending into the tube, she decided to save time. Swinging one leg over the rail, she slid down, her whoops echoing off the walls. As she hopped off the end, she got several disapproving looks from the other tube patrons. Giving one lady a friendly grin, she commented "It's alright, I'm an American. Being a pain is in my blood. Better keep an eye on your tea!" Winking, she ran off again, swiping her tube card through the gate. Luck was with her this morning, as the number three pulled up right in front of her. She boarded and grabbed the nearest seat, collapsing with a sigh. Seeing a discarded paper on the seat next to her, she started reading as she fiddled with her iPod. Apparently North Korea had gone on with the nuclear test, even though the world disapproved. She chuckled as a Dane Cook joke ran through her mind. "Hey, knock it off, you're buggin' the world!" Becoming absorbed in the article, she automatically ticked off stops, and got up when hers came, still reading. Suddenly remembering work, she tucked the paper into her bag and was off running again. As she jogged across the bridge, she gazed down at the Thames, again marveling at her luck. Skidding to a halt in front of the coffee shop where she worked, she calmly walked in and smiled at her boss. He looked at the clock and slowly looked back at her. "Well, you made it today, and with a minute to spare. We'll see how long you last though..." He gave her one last glare and walked off. Andy trotted to the backroom and opened her locker. She coolly placed her bag and purse in her locker, pulling out her work clothes. She then made the mistake of looking over at Charlie, who was sitting on the bench, eyeing her with a grin. Giving up, she collapsed on the floor laughing. "I was so close today, and I know that if I had been one second late, he totally would have sacked me." Andy glanced at her best friend, still giggling. "It's funny how much he hates you now, considering how he used to bend over backwards for you. Guess guys get ticked when you won't sleep with them." Charlie smiled softly. She thought the whole situation was rather funny, but was still pissed at her boss. Andy had to fend him off far too many times for comfort, and he was a threat, whether the girl wanted to admit it or not. Andy had pulled on her black pants and apron by now, and closed her locker with a bang. "Well, I'm never gonna sleep with him, no matter how may benefits it would have. Sex is a serious thing, whether or not society agrees." "We'll just see how well your standards hold up when you meet a real hottie, and you know that one of these days you're going to!" Andy choked and avoided Charlie's eyes. Of course her friend saw right through her and was demanding details as they walked into the shop. She related the morning's events as they prepared for the new day. Andy and Charley both worked part time at the coffee shop, and had met when Andy had moved to London. She was attending University here, mainly cause she was in love with the city. She was a military brat, and had traveled Europe as a teenager. She had visited London, and fell in love at first sight. In high school she had been kind of a loser, not caring about grades or her future at all. However, she had randomly stumbled upon the website for the Richmond International University, and had turned her life around. Now she was living in London, majoring in Computer Graphics, and having the time of her life. She had the part time job at the coffee shop and another at an ice skating rink near by. Her parents were well off, and could afford her education, but she preferred to pay for most of it and put less off a strain on them. She had a text book open on the counter, and was on auto pilot, taking care of drink orders while going over her material in her mind... Love in London Ch. 02 Andy was suddenly startled out of her comfortable daze by an all too familiar voice. Glancing up, she found herself staring straight into the green eyes of this morning. The guy grinned, and ordered a straight black coffee. She turned and took care of it, all the while fuming at his audacity. First he spies on her, than he follows her work? She tried to calm down and her rational side began taking over. This shop was very popular, and he probably just stopped by, having no idea she worked here. She turned back to give him his order, and found him still gazing at her with that infuriating grin. Her anger rising again, she banged the cup down in front of him. "Three quid and you had better not be following me." She held out her hand, still glaring. The guy dropped a few coins in her hand, looking offended. "Why on earth would I follow you? Are you accusin' me of bein' a stalker?" Greg was secretly delighted that he had found her again, and harbored tentative hopes of actually becoming friends with her. He studied her once again, delighting in her natural beauty. She had long layered hair, with a variety of tints. Overall it was a golden blond, but he saw hints of auburn and dark brown as well. Her eyes were a grayish blue, and they reminded him of the sunburst cut of a sapphire. She wasn't overweight, but she wasn't a stick either. Her upper arms were toned, and set off by a simple silver band on each. Right now her face was set in a frown, but he saw definite evidence of laugh lines. She was definitely American, which intrigued him, as American teenagers were not very common London coffee shop employees. She made no attempt to imitate a British accent, but she seemed to know the slang pretty well, which meant she had lived here awhile. Greg was shaken out of her reverie by a hand waving in front of his face. Startled, he noticed that there was a line behind him, and the girl looked more annoyed then before. "Sorry to bother you, but you aren't the only customer, and you're in the way. Move it." Andy watched as he blushed and walked over to a low chair by the window. There he resumed his examination of her, still smiling faintly. She didn't know what it was, but something about this guy infuriated her with very little effort. She tried to put him out of her mind, and focused on work. About an hour later she noticed that that guy was still sitting in the chair, reading a magazine. It was slow at the moment, so she sighed and walked over. "Why are you still here? You probably have somewhere else to be." Greg had decided to wait until this girl got off work, and then try to convince her to do something with him, even if he had to wait all day. He looked up at her and grinned. Apparently something about him interested her, which was a good start. "What, a guy can't stay and lounge about a coffee shop for awhile? I thought that was the point of these places." Seeing eyes narrow, he hastily continued. "However, I was waiting for you, if you must know. You think you could find it in you to go to dinner with me?" Andy was taken aback, although she probably should've guessed that he was hitting on her. "Look, I don't even know you, and you don't know me, no matter how much of me you got to see this morning." She regarded him, taking in his incredibly good looks once more. If he pestered her enough, she would most likely end up giving in. Curses... "Well that's just it; I want to get to know you. So you should do something with me!" She hadn't hit him or anything, so maybe he had a chance... Sighing, Andy checked her watch. Maybe if this guy got to know her, he would realize that she wasn't easy to lay, and leave her alone. "My shift is over in ten minutes, and my class doesn't start for two hours. If you want, we can get ice cream or something, cause that's the best you're going to get right now. By the way, what's your name?" Greg was willing to take any chance he could get, sensing that she didn't date much. "Ice cream would be great, especially in this heat wave. My name is Gregory Wright, just Greg is great." "Alright then, I'll be ready in around 15 minutes, have to change and all. My name is Andromeda Harper, but I go by Andy. Andromeda is such an odd name, and I hate it when people call me that." Andy turned and walked away. She couldn't believe she had given in that easy, and she was probably gonna regret this. She quickly cleared up the miscellaneous dishes in the small shop, and then went back to change. Dressed and ready to go, she grabbed her purse but decided to leave her school bag; she could always grab it on her way back to the tube. She paused at the door, and drew in a shaky breath. Not usually the type to date, this guy made Andy incredibly nervous. Drawing in a deep breath, she coolly walked out into the beating sunshine. Greg was leaning against the wall along the Thames, staring out over the water. The sun shone on his jet black hair, and sparkled on a silver chain around his neck. Andy ambled over and stood next to him, trying to decide if he was looking at anything in particular. The sun sparkled off the water, catching on the river craft. The infamous Eye shone to the right of the pair, and the Parliament buildings stood in al their grandeur ahead. Greg looked only at the water, with a hint of sorrow in his eyes...
