Well, in this story the girls are grown and have to deal with grown folk issues. Now, I will tell you that Andi edited this story for me, but I did tweak it a bit after she finished. So any mistakes are my fault. I simply enjoy telling a story. If you are one of the people that grammatical errors will drive you insane, then please skip this story. But, if you are a person that wants to read a story that is interesting, then please read and enjoy. If you chose to read it, then please don't let any mistakes you may find distract you from the story. First, I want to thank my friend, Andi Downs, for her encouragement in writing this tale. She even helped me correct some of my more blaring errors. Also, she did help edit this and I truly appreciate her for doing that. Then there is Mostera1, he actually suggested this title a long time ago when I finished Out of the Shadows. So Andi and Mostera1, this story is dedicated to you. Anyway enough history, I would like you to read and enjoy, Into the Sunlight. Please share your thoughts. IR2R ***** CHAPTER 1 "Hey, momma, I can't make it this weekend. Charles has to work and we won't be able to drive down. Tell Daddy and Cynthia, we'll be there next time, OK." Camirra Granger left on her mother's Deidre's voicemail. Her father and stepmother were celebrating their fifteenth wedding anniversary. She recalled when Cynthia and her dad came home. Her sister Rory was horrid to them. Often she tried to be the buffer, but her Dad put a stop to that one day. When they were younger, Rory was vicious, and their parents separated them. It hurt being away from her twin, but it gave her time to find out who she was. Camirra loved playing ball, and she was good. She played in high school and in college. That's where she met her husband. He played on the team of an opposing school. One night they exchanged numbers and he called. Rory did not like him, but Charles told her to choose. She chose her boyfriend. She had not spoken to her sister in over seven years, but she knew if Rory found out that he hit her, she would come after him. She did not want her to know. Years ago, she defied her parents and went to Vegas and married Charles Finch. He was a local college basketball star with stars in his eyes; hoping to make it into the pros. Her Dad didn't like him, and neither did Jason. After they married, both her Mom and sister begged her not to leave with him. The situation was so volatile, that her Dad and her husband almost came to blows. Camirra stood by her husband, and that proved to be the dumbest decision she ever made. He convinced her it was because they were jealous. They just didn't understand what true love looked like. Charles convinced her that even her sister, Rory was upset because she didn't have a man like him. Things came to a head one night as they sat at her grandparents home. Camirra and her new husband Charles stopped by her grandparent's home. They actually needed a place to stay a few nights and it was obvious Darius and Jason was not letting him in their home. Her Grandmother Jasmine offered her shelter, but her husband had to find someplace else to go. Grandpa Marvin was willing to take them in. The evening was tense. Darius called and told them if that guy did anything, call them. He and Derrick actually planned to kidnap Camirra and not let her leave with him. The marriage would be annulled. "So young man, you play basketball?" Grandpa Marvin asked casually. "Yea, um yes sir. Is that a problem for you too?" Charles questioned. "Well, I was just asking. You married my granddaughter and I really want to make sure you two will be alright." Marvin explained. Charles stood, "Camirra, get our stuff. We're leaving." Camirra froze. "Baby, it's me or them. You married me, so that means you go with me. Now do what a good wife would do and get our stuff." He ordered once more. Camirra ran upstairs and grabbed their bags. As she left Marge texted Cyn to tell Darius to get over there. Darius arrived, and an altercation occurred. The police was called, and Charles and Camirra left. As he drove off, she knew she could not return home again. She made her choice. She'd be OK. Charles loved her and with time they would be alright. Five days after leaving with him, she knew she made a horrible mistake. Charles waited as his wife called her mother. She left a message and hang up the phone. She jumped when he spoke, and that reaction made him smile. "Did you tell them we won't be coming?" Charles demanded to know. "Yes, I told them." Rory squeaked out. Charles looked at his wife. She was pathetic. "Clean yourself up and fix your face. If you didn't make me so mad, I wouldn't have to beat your ass all of the time." Then he stormed off. Camirra nodded. She did not know what to do, so she got up and did as her husband demanded. Rory had another bad dream. She was having them all of the time. In her dreams, her sister was being hurt. The thing was she suspected that they weren't dreams at all. She stopped speaking to Camirra years ago when she started dating Charles. Charles controlled her sister, and she didn't like it. Last night, however, Camirra called out to her. She was crying and someone was hurting her badly. She called her Mom, and Deidre told her that Camirra canceled again this year. She was worried. Last year she and Darius drove over to visit. Charles and Camirra were out of town, and the neighbors had no idea when they would return. Dee felt something was not right, but when she called, Charles never let Camirra speak to her for long. She was at her wits end and didn't know what to do. Rory had enough. She was going to see her sister, and if her brother didn't like it, well, she'd deal with him. "Momma, I'm coming and if I can, I'll bring Camirra with me." She promised. Deidre sighed. She was worried about her daughter. It seemed she could only call at certain times, and she didn't sound happy. At first, she thought it was something she'd adjust too, but after this morning, Deidre feared it was something more sinister going on. "Cammira Finch, get down here and make me some damn breakfast woman. I don't have all damn day to wait on your sorry ass." He yelled. Cammira moved. Within minutes, she had breakfast served and her husband was eating happily. "What, are you sad? You wanted to go home and tell Daddy what an awful husband you have." Charles sneered. The he laughed, "Bitch, you see that ring on your finger, that means you are mine. I own your ass. Daddy can't help you. So until I decide it the right time, you won't see them again, understand?" he asked. Camirra did not answer, so he slapped her down, "Answer me when I talk to you, bitch." He demanded. Camirra cried, holding her cheek. "Yes, I won't see them." She whispered. "I'm going out and you have to go to work. Fix your makeup and clean this shit up. You don't need to be late." Charles growled as he walked out of the door. Charles Finch was a handsome man, and he knew it. Standing a little over seven feet tall he towered over his wife. When he met Camirra years ago, she fascinated him. Unlike her loud, rude sister, Camirra carried herself like a lady, despite the fact that she was black. Normally Charles never dated black women, they were too hard to control, but not Camirra. She was exactly what he needed, quiet, docile, and terrified of him. Humming, Charles crank his car, and headed to his job. He'd bring her flowers. She liked that, and then he'd apologize and then they'd make love. Camirra was beautiful, but lately she was more trouble than she was worth. Charles fooled many people. Camirra was so shy at first, but he charmed her. He was her first and only man. He could not fool her sister though. Her dad hated him. In fact he ordered his daughter to leave her husband. Camirra stayed by his side. The first year, he didn't hit her. She'd piss him off, but he never stuck her. He didn't need black marks against him. He was already being watched. Being a black man, on the fast track to a cushy office position at Sedgeway Security, and having a black wife that was a successful professional elevated him. Besides, for some reason, his boss and the man's wife loved Camirra. Why? He had no clue. She was quiet, boring, and besides playing ball, nothing else really appealed to him. Hell, the only reason he talked to her at all was because he lost a bet. Then he met her folks. Those fuckers were loaded. Her dad, Darius, was well known. He was hero status. The beat the hell out of a white guy and got off. Hell, he and whitey were still best friends. If he got with his daughter, that elevated him. His status as a mack would be set in stone. Except, his daughter was weak. Now her sister, he hated, but at least she would fight. Her family name in itself was an asset. Darius Granger was well known. He turned his life around and many admitted him. Her uncle, Felix, was a lead detective in Dermot. Mad respect, he gained when his boss learned who hiss were. Camirra was his ticket, but he was coming into his own. He didn't need her any more. However, he knew her Dad. If Darius ever found out the truth. He was a dead man. So for now, Camirra was not going home. Charles went to the courts. He often shoot with his boys, Ray Ray, Doo-rag, and Phish. This guys idolized Charles. They actually got jobs at the security office because of him. His wife, they did not like. So often, they'd introduce him to honeys from the hood. Charles was the man. He kept the honeys and he kept his wife in check. Camirra dressed and reported to work. She carefully applied her makeup. And as usual, she would talk as little as possible. Being lighter complexion was a challenge because the bruises showed so easily. As she suspected, no one noticed, or if they did nothing was said. An hour into her day, hey mom called. "Camirra, what do you mean you can't come. Charles doesn't have to be with you. This is your dad and Cynthia. They want you here." Deidre explained. Camirra took a deep breath. She had to make sure her answer did not alert her mom, or they would travel to see her. "Momma, Charles hates missing this, but he's trying to get a promotion. He doesn't want me driving so far by myself. Tell Daddy and Cynthia that we love them and will call, OK." She exhaled. "Momma, I must go now. Love you hug Ty and Ashleigh for me, and give my love to Jason. Bye mom." She hang up. Something was not right. Deidre called Cynthia. Cynthia answered immediately. She too was worried. It had been over three years and Camirra made excuse to not come home. She called but that wasn't like her. No one liked her husband. Felix checked into his background, but nothing came up. Still, it was something about this man. Cynthia knew if Camirra was not coming home, he told her she couldn't. Two years ago, she and Darius went to see his daughter. She smiled and pretended all was well, but Cynthia didn't buy it. When Deidre and Jason went, they felt the same. Something was wrong. "I think she's being abused." Dee whispered. "I hope I'm wrong, but I don't believe I am. She's too quiet, Cyn. He made her choose him over everyone. I need to help my baby, but how?" Cynthia agreed. This was not like their daughter. "We need to tell Darius." Dee started to protest. He'd end up in prison. "He needs to know, but I think like us he suspects something already. When Ty and Derreon go to school, the four of us need to talk." Dee knee she was right. So the two disconnected and she told Jason. Darius was headed to his office when Cynthia stopped him. Meanwhile, one person was no longer waiting. Her dream last night scared her. She was checking on her twin. Rory Rose drove to her sister's small home. She parked down the street, for some reason she needed her brother gone. She saw him drive off. Then Camirra came out. She saw her leave. Not one to be fooled by appearances, Rory didn't buy the happy couples routine she witnessed. Something was not right. So Rory made a decision. If she went to their home, Charles would call the police. He did the last time and Camirra backed up his lies. Because of that she stopped talking to her, but last year the dreams started. She'd show up at her job. Camirra would not act out with people around. Or so she hoped. At ten, Rory walked into her sister's office building. Wearing a printed wrap dress, she stood out amongst the suits and ties. If Camirra worked here, then she had to be bored. "Camirra, an interesting dress. You know Mrs. Love has a strict dress code." A male spoke to her. The inflection in his voice told her two things. He did not like her sister, and he was not aware that she had a twin. Rory turned around and smiled, the guy stepped back. 'I'm not Camirra. I am looking for her though. Be a good boy, and find my sister for me." She asked sweetly. The young man left immediately, and just like she suspected, several people came out to meet her. One lady in particular caught her eye. "Come with me, please, Ms. Granger." She asked haughtily. Rory followed her to her office. "Have a seat." She offered. Rory didn't have time for this. It seemed that Camirra made sure she didn't get to see her. She was about to make excuses and leave when the lady closed the door, and told her assistant she was not to be bothered. She also told her to call Camirra to her office. "You must be Rory. Camirra told me she had a sister. She never mentioned a twin." Rory opened her mouth. The lady held up her hand to stop her. "Can you get her clothes, accessories, and everything else she needs when she leaves with you?" She sked. Rory was confused. "What?" She asked. "Listen, she can't go to her house. He will come after her. If you want your sister to live, then get her away from her husband. He works for my husband and he really wants to fire the bastard the only reason he hasn't is because he can create jobs to keep him from hurting Camirra. He hits her. She thinks no one knows, but I've seen the bruises she tries to hide." Tears rolled down her cheeks as she continued. Rory spoke. "Wait, are you saying Charles hits my sister?" She asked. Her stomach felt hot, anger burned within. "Not only hits her, he beats her. I know something happened this morning. Her makeup is too heavy. Rory, you are her sister. Please take her home with you." She pleaded. At that point, her assistant opened the door and she invited Camirra in. Camirra was nervous. Mrs. Love knew and she told her if she came to work bruised again, then they'd have to let her go." "Mrs. Love, I... I'll clean out my desk. Thank you for the opportunity to work for you." Camirra whispered. Rory stood, and Camirra turned to walk away. "Camirra, wait. Come home. You know Daddy and Jason won't let him near you." Rory pleaded. "Rory, I can't go back. You know what Daddy said. I made my choice." She wept. "OK, then I'm moving in with you and your husband." Rory declared. "No, he'll hurt..." Camirra froze. Mrs. Love guided her to a seat. Mrs. Love sighed, "Camirra, he is going to keep hurting you until he kills you. I lost my daughter because my husband and I tried not to interfere in her life. I swore if I ever saw this again, I'd do something. I know your parents, and I know they will protect you. You have to leave him, Camirra. You must go." "He has people watching me. Every time I go home, his friends tell him everything that I do." She sobbed. "I tried to leave last year, and he..." "He caused the miscarriage, didn't he?" Mrs. Love queried. Camirra nodded. "Rory, if he finds out, he will hurt you. I can't put you in danger." The bruise on her face was even more visible as her makeup washed away. Rory exhaled. When they were younger, she looked out for her sister. Then she met Charles. She let her pride and anger take control and Camirra aid. "Let's go get your stuff. You're going home." Rory declared. Mrs. Love stopped her. "He has the house watched. He'll be on you before you leave the city. Leave the house, you can rebuild. I'll make sure to give you glowing recommendation for a new post, and a generous severance package. Her assistant came in bringing a generous check. "Camirra, go now. Going in her purse, she gave the young woman a wad of cash. James has him occupied at work, you can get pretty far away before he realizes that you are gone." The older woman hugged Camirra, and Rory. Call me when you get to your parents. She and Rory left. True to form, Mrs. Love made sure they had an officer visible until they left city limits. Once they reached the interstate, Rory took off. Camirra was quiet. Once they were out of the state, Rory stopped. She faced her sister. She had so many questions, but she could tell that her sister was broken. "He won't hurt you again Camirra. I promise that he won't hurt you again." Rory whispered as she hugged her sister. Camirra cried. Her sobs broke Rory's heart. She had to get Camirra home. Once they were safe at Moms or Dads, then she was returning to deal with Charles Finch. After driving for two straight hours, Rory stopped at a local fast food restaurant. Camirra didn't want to get out of the car. Her face was bruised and she didn't want people staring. So Rory went in and ordered them a lunch. She called her Mom and told her that Camirra was with her. "Mom, it's me. I'm on my way home. I have Camirra with me.' She explained, not wanting to say much. Dee knew, "Baby is she OK? What's wrong?" Rory fought her tears, she told her Mom, "He beat her Mom. The bastard beat my sister." Dee screamed. Cynthia, Darius, and Jason were alerted immediately. Darius took the phone. "Rory, baby what is it?' Rory told her Dad that she and Camirra would be home soon. Tell Mom not to worry. Then she hang up. Dee at this point told Cynthia what Rory said Darius heard her. Jason stopped him. "They will be there soon. Let's get Camirra home where she is safe and the we can decide what if anything needs to be done to Charles." Darius fumed, "I never should have let him take her. Five years, Jason. He has had her with him for five years. I knew something was wrong. I should have..." "What?" Jason asked, "You would have ended up in prison or worst. She's safe and will be home soon." Cynthia knew her husband. He loved his kids with a fierceness that went beyond belief. He didn't like that guy but she chose to go with him. "Baby, she's with Rory and they will be here soon." Cynthia held her husband. Rory got back in the car and told her sister that she called Mom. Then she drove. Within an hour, they were driving into her father's driveway. Darius stood and walked out. He had to see his baby girl. Rory got out first. He hugged her, but Camirra did not move. He walked to her door and opened it. Darius saw the black marks that covered her face. He saw the handprints around her neck, and Darius knew if he ever got his hands on her husband, that he was going to prison. He barely missed going over twenty years ago, but this time he'd walk in there and slam the gate behind himself, because Charles Finch had an ass whooping coming. Dee ran out and hugged her daughter. Cynthia had her to sit as Jason paced back and forth. Most of the time, he backed Darius up and like Derrick, tried to be the voice of reason. Not this time. This time, they were going after that fool. Darius could not speak. He walked out. Camirra sobbed. Her dad was disappointed in her. Cynthia followed her husband as Dee and Jason comforted a crying Camirra. Into the Sunlight Ch. 01 Rory just stood. Soon, Sierra drove up with the children. School was out early today and she picked all of them up. She entered followed by an excited group of young ones. "Camirra!" Tyrianna and Ashleigh shouted. They rushed to their older sister and froze mid stride. Sierra was speechless as well as evidence of her niece's maltreatment looked back at her. She called Cameron. Soon, Darius' home was filled to the brim. His Mom and dad walked in with Dee's mom. Camirra cried. Her grandmother sat on the couch in front of her. She held both of her hands. "This is not your fault Camirra Lace. You are home now. You are safe. Charles won't hurt you again." She hugged her grandmother. Her phone rang. She looked at it. It was her husband. Charles was furious. The bitch didn't come home. Jeanie called and said she didn't see her come in. He called his friend Blackie at her job, and he told him that she left work hours ago. He had no idea where she went. Blackie wasn't about to tell him she was with her sister. Although he gave her a hard time at work, he hated the way Charles treated her. Today when her sister showed up, it was her one chance to escape. She took it. He was certain Charles would find out where she went, but it would not be because of him. Charles waited. Answer the phone. You stupid bitch. He fumed. Camirra dropped the phone and Darius answered. "Bitch, I don't know where you are but I'm beating that ass when you get home." Charles threatened. That was enough, "Listen to me you son of a bitch. I told you if you hurt my baby, I would be after your ass. Run mother fucker because your days are numbered." Darius hang up "Daddy, don't he'll hurt you. He said..." She paused. "I need to call him. I need to explain." She cried. Cynthia took her phone. As a doctor, she saw victims of domestic violence often. They always blamed themselves. But this time it was personal. Camirra was her baby and some man beat her. "You don't have to call him, or speak to him again." She moved beside her grandmother, "Baby, I promise you. He will never touch you again. We won't let Charles near you. I promise." Cynthia swore. Jasmine came and applied cold cream to her bruises. They would fade, but the mental scars would take time to heal. Camirra needed to talk with someone. They'd find someone tomorrow. Fuck, she went home. Her old man is crazy. Shit, I got to go. He will kill me. Charles panicked. Dialing his boss' number, he told him he was relocating. His boss told him to give him a few days and he'd make sure he had a new post. He'd triple his pay if he waited." Charles wanted the money Mrs. Love knew what her husband was doing. He believed Charles would go after Camirra, and she needed time to feel safe with her family. He was giving her family time. Charles couldn't sleep. That bitch went home and he knew she lied to her folks. How in the hell did she get home that fast? Her car was still at the office. He knew he drove by there. Someone had to help her. She had another man. The bitch was cheating in him; fucking around behind his back. Her Dad might come, but he wouldn't kill him. He was too soft now. Besides, if Darius Granger did show up, his body would be carried back home, and that bitch would know it was her fault. Soon Camirra slept in her father's guest room. Rory for the first time since they were kids stayed in the room with her sister. Rory watched Camirra sleep. She'd wait and around two she was driving back. He could bully her sister, but that bastard did not scare her. Charles Finch was going to pay. Around two am, Rory was up and dressed. As she started to exit via the backdoor, a light popped on. "No, Rory, I can't let you do it. I can't risk you Rory. Go back upstairs." Darius ordered. "Daddy, did you see her face? Do you know what he did to her? She lost a baby because he beat her, Daddy. He beat her because she was too scared to fight back. He needs to pay." Rory sobbed. Darius faced his daughter. Rory was so much like him. If someone hurt Derrick or Sierra he'd kill them. Hell, he almost did. He recalled his attack on Cameron. "He will pay baby, but right now Camirra needs you here with her. I promise you, I will take care of that bastard." Darius sighed, "He won't get away with it." Rory's body shook with unadulterated fury. Darius held her clos. When they were babies, he often sang to them, so he began to hum. She calmed, yet her body still shook. "Daddy, I stopped talking to her. She picked him, and after he had me arrested, I walked out of her life. She is hurt because I failed to protect her. I knew something was wrong; I knew." She cried, her body wracked with soft sobs. For the first time, since Camirra came home and chose to leave with Charles, Darius cried in front if his daughter. "If anyone failed, baby, it was me." Darius whispered. Camirra awoke and found Rory gone. She was afraid. She found her dad and sister crying in the kitchen "Please don't cry for me. This is not your fault. I knew how he was, but he promised me that if I married him he would change. He was worse, but Daddy you warned me and I didn't listen. I should have listened." Darius pulled both of his daughters into his safe embrace. "Daddy, I'm sorry. You warned me, and I should have listened." Camirra whispered. "No baby. Don't. You are not to blame for what he did. I never liked him, didn't trust him. I should have done more. ". Darius whispered, lifting her chin. "How long has he been mistreating you." Camirra inhaled. "The first time, we were dating. We were at the movies and I spoke to to a friend. Charles was upset, and after we left the theater he shoved me. He apologized and begged me to forgive him. He swore it was his love for me that made him infuriated when I talked to other men. I forgave him. I kept it secret. He didn't hit me until after we had been married a few months. I wanted to come home, but so much was said. I made my choice so I had to deal with it. She faced Rory, "I'm sorry I let the police arrest you. But I really felt like I had no choice. He was my husband. It was the two of us against the world. I knew if I sided with you, I'd be beaten and selfishly, I took his side. I'm sorry Rory. I cut you out of my life because I had to, not because I wanted to." She sobbed. Rory hugged her sister. "I never should have walked away from you. If I hadn't, then you would not have felt so alone. " "No, Rory. I made a bad choice, but you came for me and helped me get away. I'm going to be OK now.". Camirra noticed that her sister was fully dressed. She also knew that is Rory made up her mind, she would take action against her husband. "Rory, where were your are going?" Camirra asked. "He can't get away with this, Camirra. He needs to know that." Rory explained. Derreon woke up. He joined his dad and sisters. As a young teen, he was a handsome young man. And like the other males in the family, he was very protective of his sisters. "Rory, I want to go with you. Dad can stay here and take care of Mom and Camirra. We need to get that fool." He added. Rory smiled. Her baby brother was ready to defend them whenever the need arose. But this was one she wouldn't involve him in. "Nah, bruh." Rory explained, "I'm handling that fool." Darius cleared his throat. "No, no one is confronting Charles. That's what he expects. Camirra is safe now. He won't get near her again. Now we are not going after him, but if he comes here, all bets are off." Derreon wanted to protest. His Dad was turning soft. He heard the stores about how badass he when he was younger, but now, he wanted to play it safe. "You three, go back to bed. That's an order" Darius decreed. Hugging their dad once more, the three complied. However, Rory still wanted to get her hands on her brother. Having learned about Camirra's attack, Derrick took action. He called a friend and wanted to know what the options were. It was simple. Camirra was divorcing that bastard. Also, after procuring a restraining order against Charles, they hired a detective to watch the ex-husband. If he moved, they wanted to know. Until Camirra was divorced, she was still in danger. Each day the detective reported to Darius, Derrick, Jason, or Cameron. He had Charles watched from all angles, but was concerned with his level of deceitfulness. From what his people told him, Charles was crafty. Into the Sunlight Ch. 02 So you made it through chapter one. I hope you enjoyed it. She cried silently. If she had listened, then this could have been avoided. All of a sudden, she heard a loud commotion outside of her father's door. She walked out. The nurse was physically restraining her sister, Charleshia When Camirra came out, Charleshia attacked. "Bitch, you're the reason my brother might die. I told him to leave your trifling ass alone. If he dies bitch, you're next." She ranted as she charged at Camirra. Security removed her from the premises. Camirra was shaken and returned to her father's room Darius had awakened. The loud commotion outside of his room broke his slumber. He was still weak, but no one would hurt his baby girl. Camirra sat beside her father's bed. This was not like her. What had she allowed herself to become, a weak, minded, woman that was too afraid of her own shadow. She was not raised to be like this. She looked up and Darius smiled. He saw it in her eyes; Camirra was beginning to realize her worth. He knew it would take time, but with their love and support his baby girl would recover and become the strong woman she was meant to be. "Daddy, I'm sorry." She whispered. Darius smiled. He hurt like hell, but at least he was alive. When Derrick and Dad told him he had been in here for a week, he was stunned. Then he learned that Cyn had been arrested and would probably be charged. Darius became upset. That bastard came into their home, threatened them, had a gun to a child's temple, and they were trying to charge his wife for defending them. His Dad and Nick were visiting when they saw a report on the local news. Marvin started to turn the television off, but Darius stopped him. After the report, Darius lost it. His monitors started beeping, but Marvin begged him to calm down. Darius wasn't listening. They feared he'd need a sedative, and when the nurse came in to give him the medicine, he calmed. Marvin sat with him, and he and Nick just talked. Derrick and Cameron stepped outside when Jasmine walked up. She knew Nick and Marvin were checking on Darius. She checked on him daily and was relieved that he would recover. She, too, was worried about Cynthia in all of this. However, her biggest worry was that Camirra was internalizing things and blaming herself. Her granddaughter was very sensitive, and something like this could push her over the edge. Darius knew he had to calm down. He had too. Cyn needed him to heal. She needed him in her corner. He was worried. Cyn could not come see him unless she was released. He prayed that they would set bail, but feared that with the hype surrounding this case, it might not happen. Marvin and Nick had to go, but Camirra returned. Both grandfathers greeted her, and soon left leaving her alone with her Dad. He squeezed his daughter's hand. "Sweetheart is there anything new on the case against Cynthia?" He asked. Camirra shook her head, "No, daddy, not yet. Rory said they go before a judge today. Her lawyer said he'd do everything he can to make sure she is released until they continue proceedings." Darius nodded. He needed to be with his wife. His daughter sat, and both were quiet. Soon, Darrius sighed, "Camirra babe, can you call the shop for me? Tell Enrique to take over. I'm not sure when I can get back." Darius knew she needed a distraction. She needed to focus on something else, or she would continuously beat herself up over this. Camirra nodded, and called the shop. The guys were fine and asked about Darius. They wanted to come see him but he was in ICU. Camirra told them he was in a room, and please stop by. They thanked her and told her to give her Dad their best wishes. Then she spoke to Enrique. She gave him Darius's orders and he said he was on top of things. "Camirra," Darius whispered. "How is Charles? Will he live?" "He's still unconscious, critical. I really don't know more." Camirra explained. Darius was frustrated. "Baby girl, he can't die. They'll try to crucify Cyn if he does. Check on him for me." He ordered. Camirra complied and went to see Charles' nurse. She felt responsible for all that happened. The nurse told her things were the same, no changes. She looked around and saw his mother and her brother sitting across from his room. She started to walk over and speak, when his sister stood. Not wanting to have another confrontation, she went back to her father's room. Camirra entered, and Darius needed to know. "How is he?" "He's stable, but still unconscious. The nurse said nothing has really changed." She replied. "Daddy, this is so unfair. Cyn didn't do anything. He shot you. He was going to kill everybody." Camirra began to pace. "I don't understand. This morning, I had to talk to the DA again. His sister wants Cyn charged with attempted murder. I hate Charleshia, just hate her. She is just as evil as Charles." She stopped. I'm so stupid. I ruin everything. She thought, sobbing softly. "Look at me. Camirra Lace, look at me. None of this is your fault. Charles tried to hurt us, not you. Don't ever blame yourself." He ordered. Darius was worried. The government held military personnel to a higher standard than regular citizens. Even if they proved that she had no choice, the fact that she had weapons training would play against her. He was worried about his wife, but he needed to protect Camirra from knowing. Meanwhile at the Lower Municipal Courthouse, Cynthia was not alone. Rory, Jason, Dee and their children were there. They didn't understand. That man tried to hurt them and Cynthia protected them. Why were they putting her in jail? Ashleigh cried and wanted answers. Derreon was worried about his Mom. After the shooting, when she was cuffed, Jason didn't want the children seeing that. However, today, Derreon wanted to see about his Mom. His girls insisted on coming with them. They did not get a chance to talk with Cynthia, but an officer did take time and explain. "Look, I know this is upsetting, but Mrs. Granger did almost kill a man. If she were anybody else, this would be an open and shut case. We can't let you see her right now, but I promise you she is all right." The officer explained. "I want to see my mom. I watch the news. I see how cops treat..." He stopped. Jason placed his hand on his shoulder. "Derreon, I'm sure Cyn is OK." Derreon shook his hand off. "He shot my Dad. He had a gun on Ashleigh and he hurt my sister. He should be locked up, not momma." Jason agreed, but going off on the police was not the answer. Soon Cynthia's lawyer came from the back. He spoke with the family and told them he would do everything he could to get her released. "Cynthia is in good spirits. She knows you all are here. Just wait and they will let some of you in to see her." He explained. He talked with the family a bit more when an officer offered to let them see Cynthia. They bid him goodbye and left. The first thing Derreon did was rush to his Mom and hugged her. She was wearing an ugly blue suit, with the letters DOC emblazoned on it. "Baby, I'm fine. We'll get through this. OK." She whispered. Then Tyrianna and Ashleigh hugged her as well. She sat and they talked. Jason remained calm, but Dee was ready to fight somebody. Cynthia smiled at her friend. She remembered that she didn't like Deidre at first, but the other woman would not let that stop them from being friends. Now, she couldn't imagine her life with her. "Cynthia, we are with you. You did nothing wrong and I know the judge will see that. You'll be out of here soon." She promised as she hugged her friend. Cynthia smiled, She'd been in worse situations. Hell, even shot before because of a madman. This was a walk in the park. "Dee, I'm fine. The truth will prevail." She stated. The guard signaled that their time was up, and Cyn held her son. "I love you, Derreon. Don't forget that." Soon they left. Derreon was quiet, and Ashleigh and Tyrianna tried to cheer him up. All was not lost; Cynthia's arrest reached the desk of her old commander, Admiral Bull. He knew if she shot someone it was because she had no choice. He made a few calls. Within the next few hours she had a new attorney. He walked in and her attorney stepped back. Ivan Delran defended many officers in these types of cases and he never lost. District Attorney Kevin Holmes smiled. Maybe this nightmare could end before it started. He asked the mayor to hold a press conference. Into the Sunlight Ch. 02 "Derreon, it'll be OK. It's OK son. We're here. Your family is here. Your mother will not go down for this." He promised, praying that he was right. Dawn came out and took Derreon in her arms. They were shocked. As they exited the courthouse, hundreds of protesters stood outside, cheering. In their minds, a soldier was not getting away with harming a civilian this time. This was step in the right direction. "Derreon, come on," Dawn whispered as they headed back over to the hospital. The grand jury was selected that evening and Cynthia's case would be the very first one presented to them. They voted unanimously to send it to trial. The judge listened and when they finished, he set the dates for three trials. Her attorney was ready. He had already told Cyn they would deny her bail. He was ready. Delran met with DA Holmes, and he knew that this was not a case the other man really wanted to pursue, but because of the media and political pressure, he filed. The two men both would defend their clients to the best of their abilities. Darius sighed. He prayed that bastard did not die. He had to find a way to help his wife. Soon, it was time to go. Camirra hugged her dad a bit harder. Darius watched her leave and he was worried. His wife was in jail. His daughter would blame herself. And he was on his back, unable to do anything about it. Into the Sunlight Ch. 02 Marshall gave her the sack back. "Momma Irma, I ain't leaving you. I couldn't help Camirra, but I won't leave you." The leader of the group was worried about those two. Charleshia would get out and he knew they would pay. He spoke with the sheriff. Camirra watched Irma and Marshall. She walked over and joined them. She felt guilty because she ran and by doing so, left them alone with Charles and his sister. "Ms. Irma, I never blamed you, nor you Marshall. I won't lie. I know you two were treated the same as me. I ran and I should have tried to help..." She exhaled. "Baby you were in hell yourself." Irma exhaled. "You couldn't help us. It's OK now. You are safe with your family. Marshall will find someplace where Charleshia can't hurt him, and I'll find a home to take me in." This was wrong. As much as she hated Charles, these two people were victimized by them just like she was. These two did nothing to her. She looked around and saw her father frowning. Grandma and Grandpa came forward. "Look, you can stay with us for a while until you figure out what you need to do. We won't leave you on the streets." Irma thanked the Granger's and Marvin and Marge told them that they would find them a temporary shelter. Norman talked with them and was willing to cover their cost. Then the small group left the police station and returned home. Into the Sunlight Ch. 02 Meanwhile, Brandon watched the two new young women, One was a cop. She had cop written all over her. Her folks had no clue. She was not a regular cop either, but higher up. He wanted to talk with her. Camirra cleared her throat. "So, I see you like Christy. I'll introduce you." She added cheerfully. Brandon turned and looked at her. His heart raced, his palms were sweaty, and he had to remember to breath. "What type of cop is she?" He asked. Camirra frowned. "Christy isn't a cop, she's a junior attorney." She explained. Brandon laughed, "Is that what she told you?" Camirra frowned, "Yes, and she has no reason to lie to us." She stated becoming annoyed. Deciding that talking with this guy was not good for her temper, Camirra turned to walk away. Brandon caught her hand. She looked at him and he saw fear. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to frighten you. I like you Camirra, and I was hoping we could talk more later." Camirra smiled, "OK, but first you have to beat my dad at basketball. Oh, and Brandon, my dad was an all states champion," She smirked and walked off. "Hey, Bran, we got to play the old dudes. My baby thinks her Dad is unstoppable. I need to show her just how unstoppable her man is." Brian boasted, kissing Rory on the forehead. Cynthia laughed, "Uh oh, young man, those are fighting words. " Cynthia teased as everyone wandered out to watch the game. Christy cheered for her Dad. Unfortunately, he fell and was out before the game began. Darius' team was about to have a player sit out, when a new car drove up. A tall, handsome man climbed out, and Christy frowned. She quickly walked over to meet him, everyone waited. "You sent me on leave. I'm off duty. Why are you here?" She demanded quietly. "Well, I'm taking a break as well, so I decided to stop by and meet your folks. Come on Christiana, it's not often the Director of the Federal Criminal Unit comes by." He smiled and she grew even angrier. "Introduce me." By now Gunther had joined them. Whoever this guy was he upset his daughter, and he was not having it. Dawn quickly followed her brother as did everyone else. Christy took a deep breath and introduced her boss. "Daddy, everyone, this is my boss Director Keith Versic." Versic shook her father's hand and was welcomed. "I'm sorry for dropping in. It's not every day one of our top agents is placed on mandatory leave. I wanted to make sure Christiana is alright. After all, she refused to answer her phone." He added glaring at her. "Top agent? Baby, what is this guy talking about?" Gunther asked. He remembered years earlier Christie wanted to become an investigator. He didn't want her too. His worse fear was her being shot or killed. She apparently did the training and became one anyway. "Daddy, I knew you wouldn't approve, so I never said anything." Christy explained. Keith didn't like seeing her so vulnerable. He moved to her side and faced her father. "Sir, I assure you, Christie is one of the top agents in the field." He faced her. "I'm sorry. I thought your family knew. Let me just go." Christy lashed out, "Please, go. Thank you for stopping in. I'm fine." She stormed off. All of the men saw the dejected look on her bosses face and they knew. They had another guy to vet. "Don't leave." Darius added. "Can you play basket ball? The guys need a fourth guy on their team and you fit the bill." Keith started to refuse, but if he stayed, then maybe he could talk with Christy again. He smiled and accepted the challenge. "Daddy is going to hurt your boss, Christy." Camirra stated." "What he didn't leave?" Christie exclaimed, "Fudge!" The game started. Darius and Derrick were impressed. The twins could play. The agent was a little rusty but he caught on quickly. Jason took some cheap shot, but neither of the guys lost their temper. Keith noticed that he, his teammates Brian and Brandon, got most of the blows. Felix was rarely hit. It was then he realized what was going on. It was Dad versus suitor. Well, if winning this game meant he got to spend time with Christiana, then his team had to win. Over an hour passed, and Marvin and Gunther called the game. Enough was enough. It was a draw. Darrius couldn't beat that kid. Neither of them. What in the hell was that cop taking, steroids. "So, sir, now that you see I'm no pushover, can I date your daughter?" Brandon asked. Darius threw a towel at him and growled. Keith searched for Christy and couldn't find her. "She's out back. Go talk to her." Her aunt suggested. Gunther started to follow when his sister stopped him. Keith walked into the yard and found Christy sitting on a tire swing. "So, I beat all of your uncles at basketball. Your dad hasn't pulled a gun on me yet. I'm still here. We are not at work Christy, and we need to talk about that night." "It never happened. Forget about it Keith. Go home." She whispered. "Wrong answer. I'll never forget, and neither will you. I was your first, and I want to be the only." Keith sighed, "What are you so afraid of Christy? Talk to me." Christiana closed her eyes. She remembered. Every time she closed her eyes, she remembered. "You are my boss. If this gets out, you know what can happen?" "I requested a transfer. When you return, I will no longer be your supervisor. Think of a new excuse." Keith stood. He needed to leave. "I'll go, but when you come back home, we need to talk." He left. Christy watched him walk away, and a part of her wanted to call him back. A part of her wanted to go with him. Yet, a big part of her was afraid. She watched as he refused to stay for dinner and then drove off. Rosa joined her. "You OK, Christy?" Christy sniffed, "I'm fine." The two young women joined the rest f the family. Meanwhile, Brian stole a moment alone with Rory. "Your dad is awesome. I can't believe he almost beat us. Almost, being the operative word." He teased. He kissed her, wanting more than anything to make love to his future bride. "I cannot believe Brandon and I are staying at your grandparent's house. The Felix guy gets to go home with Rosa." "Rosa is his wife, and Uncle Cameron won't give them any time alone either. We'll be home soon. I'm glad you like my family." She added. "They are awesome. Now, how about getting your sister to hook up with Bran? He is cramping my style." He teased. Rory sighed. After Charles, Camirra shut herself off from guys. "She had a bad experience. Hopefully they can become friends." Brian recalled talking with Rory over the past year. She was really concerned about her sister. He knew she had been in an abusive relationship, so that's why he didn't press. But he believed his brother was the best guy for her. Thanksgiving was in two days, and Camirra would come back and help Grandma cook. As she was cleaning up the remaining dishes, Brandon joined her. He didn't talk. He just picked up a towel and started wiping. Soon they were finished, "Thank you, Brandon. You didn't have too." Camirra whispered. "Can you really tell my brother and me apart?" He asked. Camirra nodded, "You have the most amazing eyes. They are captivating, Brandon. Your brother's eyes are simply brown." She blushed. Brandon laughed, "Well, Camirra, you have the most amazing smile. I hope to see it more often." Rory came down and the two stepped away from each other. "Camirra, are you ready to go?" She asked. Camirra smiled and answered, "Of course." Rory kissed her boyfriend good night, as Camirra simply looked at his brother. Into the Sunlight Ch. 03 Here is the next installment. ***** After reuniting with family at their grandparents, Rory and Camirra rode to their mother's home. Gunther and Christy were staying with Dawn and Derrick for the first night, and then they would stay with Nick and Jasmine before returning home. Marvin invited Brandon and Brian to stay with him. He did so to keep Darius from grilling the two men. Rory was staying with her Mom and stepfather, Jason. Camirra had her own apartment nearby, and after the first night or two Rory was staying with her. Tonight, both girls would sleep at their Mom's house because they wanted more time with their sisters. "OK, so what's going on between you and Brandon?" Rory asked as her sister drove. "Nothing, he just helped with dishes that's all. He seems nice." Camirra added. Yes, if Camirra and Brandon get together, things will be perfect. Rory thought. "Don't. Don't play matchmaker, Rory. I won't set myself up again." Camirra added, knowing her sisters tendency to plan things. Trying to encourage her sister, Rory sighed and stated, "Camirra, Charles is gone. You made a mistake. Come on, you have to take a chance and get out there." Camirra sighed, "Rory, it's scary. Charles seemed like a nice guy at first, too." "He fooled you." Rory stated, "He fooled a lot of people. But you are safe now. Besides, I swear Brandon is a nice guy. After you visited us, he asked about you all of the time. I have a suggestion. Over the next few days, the four of us can go out. If you still are uncomfortable with him, I'll drop it, OK." Never able to deny her twin, Camirra agreed. Rory cheered. Camirra and Brandon were perfect for each other. At Marge and Marvin's home the older couple showed the young men to their room. Marvin really liked these two and knew that they would treat his granddaughters well. But for tonight, he was back up security for his son. Marge shook her head. He was a messy old man, and needed to stay out of it. But after Charles, she knew he was going to make sure he knew these young men. Marge smiled at them and gave her husband a pointed look. She knew they needed rest. "I know you boys are tired. Go on to your rooms and rest. I'll call you in the morning for breakfast." She added. Brandon smiled, and answered, "Wait, Mrs. Granger, you're going to feed us again. Hey, Brian, I want to live here now." He teased. Marvin hugged his wife, "Young man, find your own wife this one's mine. But I'll let her make you breakfast this time." Brian laughed, "Thank you sir and please don't pay Brandon any attention. He tried to steal Rory from me when she made pasta for our second date." Marvin smiled, "The salad with crab meat and tiny shrimp, diced and sliced cucumbers in a creamy Italian sauce?" He asked. Brandon and Brian smiled, remembering the scrumptious meal. "Yes, sir." "That's the one her grandmother made to hook me over forty years ago. Delicious, but then I found out her other talents. I had to marry that girl before Earl Watson caught her eye." Marvin chuckled, and the twins shared a look. This was going to be an interesting visit. "Hush Marvin. These boys don't need to hear those old tales." She admonished. Brandon tried to look offended, then he laughed, "That's OK," He thought, "Maybe, I can get someone to cook for me soon." He smiled. Marge laughed, "I'm going to bed. You three are too much." She kissed her husband on the cheek and went to her room. Marvin sighed, "That woman right there means the world to me. We grew up together. When she turned eighteen and I was twenty, I already knew she was it for me. I proposed on her eighteenth birthday and she accepted. Her daddy told me one thing and I promised him that I would never leave her side. For decades, I have kept my word." He sighed. Facing the twins, he continued, "Brian, don't rush. Make sure this is what you want because, Rory may seem tough, but she is so sensitive, so sweet. She wears her heart on her sleeve." Brian smiled. Her grandfather was alright. Then Marvin turned to Brandon, "You like Camirra Lace. Now that girl is a fighter. She was the quieter of the two, but she is a survivor. You will have to earn her trust and son it won't be easy. She has had some hard knocks," He smiled. "Now, don't tell my son, but I'm rooting for you two boys. Make my girls happy. My wife is waiting. You know, if you wait a little while, Dee and Jason will be sleep and maybe the girls will want to see you." He winked. Brian and Brandon laughed. Marvin and Marge reminded them of their grandparents. The two men retired to Brian's room for the next few days to talk. "So you and Camirra?" Brian asked. "She's sweet. I like her. You think we could get her to go with us tomorrow?" He asked. "Let me call my baby, and I'll let you know." Brian answered. Brandon smiled, and Brian laughed. "You really like her? Man that is great." He exclaimed. "Why are you shocked? You are in love with her sister, right? I remember when she visited. She was so serious, I stayed away from you guys her whole visit. Did you even mention me?" He replied. They laughed then Brian's phone rang. "Hello" He answered, seeing Rory's number. "Hey, can you convince Brandon to go shopping with us?" She asked and Brian burst out laughing. "Who do you think told me to ask?" Brian laughed. Rory laughed and Camirra watched her grinning. Rory sighed, "I miss you. See you early." "Miss you, too." Brian whispered. "Your grandma promised us breakfast, so we'd better sleep." "You lucky jokers," Rory laughed as they both said good night and hang up. Soon she and Camirra were fast asleep. Brian smiled at his brother, who for the first time since they were kids stared at him wide-eyed. "Guess who will be joining us when we go Christmas shopping after dinner tomorrow?" Brandon laughed, "Her sister, please say her sister" "Yes," Shaking his head, flabbergasted, "You really like her?" He queried. Brandon smiled, "It's something about her. When I met her a few months ago, she was not impressed by me. She saw right through me, and that right there. Well, you know. No woman has ever not been interested in me." Brian waited as Brandon continued. Between the two of them, Brandon was the one women wanted. Yes, they were identical, but his brother somehow was more outgoing than he was. He remembered when he first introduced Rory to him. He was terrified that she would prefer Brandon as well. Well, she took care of that fear and they had been together ever since. "Well, remember, she has had a hard time. Don't rush her." Brian added. Brandon laughed, "Son, I know you are not trying to give me advice about women. I taught you everything you know. I can handle this." "Well, she is not like the usual women you've dated. She is not a fly girl, or a roundabout chick. She is a woman, like her sister. She is full grown Bran, and she will be my sister in a few months, so I have to step up." Brian explained. Brandon nodded and smiled, "I hear ya." Soon they dozed, before long, both were fast asleep. Into the Sunlight Ch. 03 After Charleshia had a melt down when Charles was sentenced, she was hospitalized for a while. Marshall and Irma had a chance to break free of her. Charleshia was diagnosed and treated for months. Irma never visited even though the psychologist begged her too. She did agree to let her visit her over Thanksgiving, so her daughter came. She arrived at her small apartment on Thanksgiving Day. Both women were standoffish. She sat with her until dinner was served and they said every little. For more than three hours, the women sat and did not say more than ten words to each other. Charleshia knew that her mother did not really want her there. She did not blame her. She remembered every evil thing she did to her and regretted each and every one. Irma looked at her and took her hand. Charleshia had to go and started to pull away. "Look at me." The older woman whispered. "I'm sorry I failed you. I failed to raise you right. I didn't keep you or your brother safe, so to feel safe you became like Charles, Sr. I won't lie, and say I miss your father. I don't. The day he died I was relieved. He couldn't hit me anymore, but then you and CJ started hitting me." Charleshia sat. She looked at her mother. She hated her mother. She hated her for allowing both her and her brother to endure their childhood. She realized after her mother moved away from her and would not come to see her she had no one. Then a few weeks after they put her in a hospital, Marshall had a courier deliver a package. He had filed for divorce. He did not love her either. She had no one and that hurt more than anything in the world. She had gone to the prison to see her brother a few weeks ago and he hated her on sight. The look he gave her made her wish she could vanish. Staring at her with a sheer look of disgust, he disowned her and told her to never visit him again. She returned to the hospital and decided to get herself together. First, she had to talk to Momma. It hurt, but she realized that Momma hurt also. The reason she was in her mother's small room on this holiday was because of her psychiatrist. She felt that she needed to confront her past. She did. It was in the last session that she cried for her mother, and that session led to her being here. Even though they did not speak, just being near her mother lifted her broken spirit. But being with her even for this short time, she realized that she needed her. She needed her mother because her mother was all she had on this earth. Charleshia took a deep breath, "Momma, I'm sorry. I am so angry. I am so mad. People look at me and they think they know what I'm about. They think they know what it was like for me. I went through hell Momma. Every time he hit you, it hurt me until I started blocking the pain. You didn't know this, but Charles beat me first, before Camirra and before you. We were small and I picked up the phone to call 911, he snatched it away and beat me like Daddy beat you. He told me he was sorry after and it was my fault. As long as I never made him mad again, it wouldn't happen anymore. It did, and I hid it. Then Daddy died." Irma listened. So much pain, so much sadness, and it was her fault. She failed as a mother to protect her children. As a result they became monsters. "Charleshia, I'm sorry, sweetheart. I know the words mean nothing, but they are all I have right now." She wept. "Momma, you should have left." Charleshia whispered. "Why didn't you leave?" "Baby, I had nowhere to go." Irma replied. Both women were quiet for a moment. Charleshia realized that her mother was right. She remembered when she and Charles Jr. were small, Momma took them to live with an aunt. She and her husband were hateful to them. After three days past, they called Dad to come get them. She and Charles Jr. hid as they listened to him beat her that night. After that, she could not leave again. That event was the start of her downfall. She pulled all kinds of stunts. Her attempted assault on her husband led to jail time. She went to jail and served two months. She witnessed her brother go to prison. She was released under house arrest and forced into therapy. She resisted t first then one day she talked. The doctor listened, and she Charleshia felt a sense of relief. "Momma," Charleshia stopped. She remembered and her mother was right. As a young child, she took beatings from her brother until she started fighting back. After daddy died, she kept fighting. Then one day she met Marshall. He was not like her dad or brother but soft. Charleshia remembered Marshall. He was doing better now. After his brother came, he refused to leave Marshall behind. Charleshia missed her husband. Moreover, her heart was crushed. Despite outward appearances, she really cared about Marshall and thought he'd never leave her. After the first eight weeks of treatment, and knowing his divorce decree would be granted, Charleshia broke. She had no one now. Her brother was in prison, her mother wanted nothing to do with her, and her husband left. Irma watched her daughter. She wondered about one thing. "Why did you marry Marshall?" Irma asked. Did she love him even a little. Marshall loved Charleshia at first. Then the abuse started. He hated her in the end and as soon as Irma was safe he left. Charleshia stared into nothing and whispered, "Because I knew he would not hurt me." Irma was not surprised and for the first time since Charleshia was three years old, she hugged her daughter. Charleshia froze at first, not sure what to expect, but then returned her embrace. She hugged her mother so tightly, as if she never wanted to let go. "You are my baby girl, Charleshia and I love you. You didn't deserve any of the things that happened to you." Irma whispered. Charleshia cried. Her tears coated her mother's neck. She would never tell her mother everything that she went through, but she was grateful that she did not have a daughter. She never would have children. Not by choice, but because of circumstance. An abortion at the age of nineteen at an illegal clinic ruined her chances of ever having a child of her own and she was glad. Charles didn't care, even though he was the reason she found herself in that predicament. She could never deny him, so at eighteen when he demanded that she share her body with him, she did. They became lovers and for months, he came to her every night. They were careful until one night. He had a game and met a girl. Charleshia was jealous, so as they drove home, she confronted him. Charles grew angry and they fought. Fighting was a huge turn on for her brother and she ended up with her panties ripped and Charles fucking her raw. She told him to stop, it was risky, but he no longer cared. Then he came, filling her. After they were done, she readjusted her clothes and they went home. Momma looked at them strange but Charles had her trained to never question him. Weeks past and she missed her period. She told Charles. He had her to steal a test and take it. She was pregnant. Charles called a friend and took her to see him. With a wire and a strong drink, he ended that pregnancy and her chance of ever becoming a mother. Charles told her to keep it secret. It was no ones business. She did. After that he left her alone. Then he met Camirra. Charleshia sighed, As much as she professed to hate this woman that held her close, she had to protect her. She would never know the truth of her real relationship with her brother. Her mother was fragile and couldn't handle it. Charleshia whispered, "Momma, it's OK. They both are gone and I'm sorry for everything I ever did to you. You did the best that you could. I know that. I knew it then. I'm going to be OK. I'm going to get my life together. Maybe one day, you will trust me again. You can come live with me. Not now, but one day." Irma hugged her daughter and replied. "Thank you for forgiving me, Charleshia. Thank you." Charleshia smiled, and for the second time in it seemed like forever she felt safe. "Don't call me that. I want to be called Renee now." She whispered. Irma nodded. Her little girl would be alright. Into the Sunlight Ch. 03 Camirra was about to refuse when one of the girls recognized her. "You're Camirra Granger; your picture is in the hall at the school. Weren't you a basketball star years ago?" the girl asked. Camirra smiled, "Yes, I played ball then but I'm a bit rusty." Brandon smiled, "Come on babe. Let's show these babies how we roll." Camirra grinned "Let's do it." Then they took the court. Into the Sunlight Ch. 04 Brandon was impressed. As hard as he and the guys on his team played, they could not stop the females. Camirra took over and called the shots. After the first twenty minutes, things changed. She was quick, and crafty. The girls out ran, out shot, and simply outmaneuvered them. The girls worked like a well oiled machine with Camirra as their leader and she could play. Soon the game ended and the kids were awed. Camirra looked at a surprised Brandon. She was smiling. "What are you smiling about?" He asked trying to pretend he was grumpy because he lost. "I'm smiling because I know the loser has to treat the winner to a gelato." She teased. "OK, alright then, but I think the winner could give the loser a little kiss to help his bruised ego." Brandon teased, Camirra laughed and kissed his cheek. Both froze. "After a few seconds, Brandon cleared his throat and said, "A gelato, huh? A real woman would just ask for ice cream." And he took off. Camirra laughed and walked slowly towards him when he stopped to wait for her. She had the most beautiful laugh, and Brandon knew he'd want to hear it many more times before he went home. "Come on." Camirra whispered. She grabbed his hand and they took off. Before long she led him to a small hooded alcove. Surrounded by a canopy of trees, Brandon felt as if the outside world no longer existed. "What is this place?" He asked, not really caring. He got to be completely alone with her. Camirra laughed, "We called it our secret place. A bunch of us found this private little world when we were kids. I had my first kiss on that rock right there." She smiled remembering happier times. "I was young and knew Daddy would bust a gasket if he thought I liked a boy especially one from his youth center." Brandon laughed, "Ah, so you are a good girl?" He teased. Camirra's smile wavered, "I used to be." Then she looked sad. "I never brought Charles here. For some reason, I could not share this place with him." Camirra stepped away from Brandon. He was not ignorant of her ex husband, but she never discussed her marriage with him before. After dating for a few months, and getting to know his, she felt that this relationship was serious. It could be permanent. Brandon filled something in her heart that she didn't know was missing. She needed to talk to him about her past, but until now it felt as if it was too soon. Would he run? Would he stay? She didn't know, but it was best tell him about her past than to try and keep secrets. Taking a deep breath, Camirra spoke. "My ex-husband beat me. I blamed myself at first because everyone tried to stop me from going off with him. I didn't listen." Brandon waited. Camirra took her time. "The first time he hit me we went to see a movie and I spoke to an old friend. I had shocked and he immediately apologized. He said his love for me made him crazy. He would never hurt me." "He was volatile, like my dad. I forgave him. We went to Vegas and got married one weekend. Dad, Jason, Mom, and Cyn were furious. Charles and Daddy actually fought. We left and went to Grandma and Grandpa. Charles got upset with something Grandpa asked, so we went to live with his family. It was bad, but I couldn't return home . I made my choice." Camirra paused. Brandon knew the rest. His brother filled him in. Even before he met her, her sister was very protective. Then he saw her for the first time. She was so damn quiet. He didn't want to spook her, so he made a nuisance of himself. Popping in during her visits, teasing her each time he saw her, asking if she was OK. Camirra never let him get under her skin. Then they reunited over the holiday visit, and he knew. She was it for him. He wanted this girl, not just sexually, but he wanted her to be his other half. She was hesitant and he understood. He knew they would work out. She shared a big part of herself with him today. He never met Charles Finch, and was glad he would never meet him. As for Camirra, she never had to fear being hurt again. Brandon was surprised. She shared a piece of her childhood with him and had not shared with her husband. "Thank you for telling me about him. I want you to know, I would never hurt you. I'm not Charles. But babe, you could have gone to the police, and I've met your Dad. Why did you really stay?" Camirra sighed and looked away. Why did she really stay? That was the one question she didn't have the answer to. However, Brandon was not done, "That's enough about the ex! So, some pimply-faced kid gave you your first kiss, huh? Well, ma'am, I don't want to disappoint. Let me give you your first real kiss." He added lifting her eyes to his. Placing his lips on hers, he kissed her, loving the sounds of her soft gasps, as her body melted in his embrace. Brandon wanted so much more, but he would not rush her. Camirra was special and like his brother, he wanted this to last a lifetime. He was doing what was right. No quickies, no shortcuts. She was like a diamond, carefully hidden and deserved to be unearth and treasured. She was his diamond, and only he would enjoy her beauty. Before the kiss ended, Camirra was holding in to him completely engaged in their kiss. Soon, the kiss ended, and she smiled. Brandon's heart skipped a beat as he stared in her into eyes. Camirra was about to say something when her phone rang. She answered because it was Rory. She told Rory Brandon was there and they were just spending the day together. Rory was relieved and promised to visit soon. Brandon smiled and said, "Wait, Brian will call in 5, 4, 3..." his phone rang and he answered. Camirra giggled and the two walked back to the park. They headed to Grandma Jasmine's because she insisted that Brandon stop by. Nick greeted him, and Brandon really liked spending time with her family. Nick asked about his parents, and Brandon told him they died years ago in a house fire. It was their death that made him want to become a firefighter. Nick was impressed. He understood how all encompassing grief could be as he remembered losing Sarai when Cameron and Rosa were small. He shut down, and for a while, his teenage son, Cameron, worked to hold the family together. It wasn't until Cameron was seriously injured that Nick dealt with his grief and took control of his family. Nick share this with Brandon, and his respect for the older gentleman grew. Camirra talked with her grandmother and Jasmine was relieved to see her so content. She liked Brandon. He was good for Camirra. The couple did not stay long. Darius and Jason planned a cookout and Brandon was expected to help. So eventually, they arrived at her father's home. Cynthia was at the hospital working an afternoon shift, so Derreon greeted them. Her baby brother often annoyed Camirra, but today his false bravado was too adorable. Brandon showed her brother the same respect he showed Darius, Jason and all of the other males in the family. As the rest of the family all arrived, Cyn came in from work. The women worked on side dishes as the men manned the grills. Nick and Marvin held supervisory roles. Camirra could not help but take sneak peeks at Brandon. They had gotten to know each other over the last few months. She liked him. She knew he was curious about her marriage but he refrained from asking. She knew if they were going to become serious, she needed to share that past with him. She wondered how he would react. "So, tell me, can I call him son, yet?" Deidre asked. Camirra laughed, "Momma, if you want to, but that would make him kinda my brother, right. Ewww!" She frowned, teasing. Everyone laughed. "I like him. I like you with him." Dee added. "I know I might be wrong, but I'm glad Charles is gone. He tried to destroy you, but you fought your way back to us. You are your own woman and deserve a chance at happiness. I think you and Brandon are good for each other." Sierra chimed in, "OK, he beat Darius and Derrick at basketball. Cameron sings his praises. We stopped by Mom and Dad and they talked about no one but those twin boys. Hell, I'm impressed. You and Rory need to go on and start planning your weddings." The women laughed. Camirra smiled, but she didn't want to get her hopes up. She liked Brandon, but once he learned of her past, he might not want her. She looked away, and Dee hugged her. Somehow, she knew what she was thinking. "He is the lucky one." She whispered, and Camirra smiled. The men yelled and everyone looked out to see one of the grills flaming high. Brandon and Derrick were laughing so hard they had doubled over. The women rushed outside. Derrick and Brandon were laughing so hard and could not tell them what happened. Fortunately for them, Derreon and the other boys gladly acted it out. Darius and Jason would not live this mishap down. The family ate and all seemed well until Cameron got a phone call. He had to go. Derrick and Darius stood to go with him. Brandon had learned from an earlier visit that the three were volunteer firemen. He of course had to tag along. Not sure what they were heading into, their wives told them to be careful. The four took Cameron's jeep and approached an apartment complex that burned. Darius knew some of the people that lived here and he needed to know if they got out. Almost everyone did. A young girl ran to them screaming that her grandmother didn't make it out. She went back for her baby brother. Brandon took action. Approaching the fire chief, he identified his rank and requested permission to rescue. The chief did not hesitate. He had learned quite a bit about this young man. Giving him the equipment he needed, he assigned two guys to cover him. Brandon went in. He found the older lady and young boy passed out. He hoisted them, one of each shoulder, and headed for the nearest exit. As he rushed, the building started caving. He had to make a split second decision. So right before he crossed the threshold, he tossed the boy out. The old lady was too heavy, and he could only take one person through. The men that the chief assigned caught the boy and one rushed him to the medic and Brandon leaped to safety with the old woman. The door gave way and the building imploded. The fire roared, and everyone was terrified. As the building started collapsing, and Darius and Derrick headed to the opening that they saw Brandon run into. Within seconds, the two men that covered him caught someone that was tossed through the opening, and rushed them to safety. Brandon came next, his jacket burning. The firefighter next to him covered his arm dousing the flame as another took the old woman. Darius and Derrick reached Brandon. He was OK, but needed medical attention. The grandmother was seriously burned and took in a lot if smoke. The boy, thanks to grandma's quick thinking sustained very few burns, and would recover. Brandon inhaled some smoke and had a serious burn. The young lady thanked them as she accompanied her family to the hospital. The chief checked on him, and told him to rehydrate. In all of his years, he'd never seen anything like that. He was a hero. Derrick, Darius, and Cameron were impressed. The three helped put out the fire as the crowd that was watching grew. The reporters came and most ignored them. The fire chief stopped and gave a brief interview. Brandon refused to talk to them. They had to return home. Darius looked a bit worried. Brandon could have died. It was a miracle that he came out of that building alive. Derrick looked at his brother and smiled. The two nodded. Both of them approved. They needed to talk with Jason and Cameron and see what they thought. Unless, this guy hurt his daughter, Brandon was now considered family. "Guys, Brandon has a big bandage on his arm. You know they will have questions, right?" He asked. Brandon laughed, and told the guys he'd explain. Meanwhile, Marge decided to watch the local news. The news reporter reported on the fire and that brave visiting fireman, Brandon Dean that not only helped douse the flames but pulled two people from the burning building. She stated that the firefighter declined to speak on camera, but the fire chief was willing to share. Camirra froze. "Wait, did she say, Brandon went into that fire?" "Yes, Camirra, he is fine. The reporter said he was." Cynthia explained. At this moment the guys drove up. Jason, Marvin, and Nick looked at each other and headed for the door. Forewarned is better than being ambushed. As they got out of the car, Marvin and Nick faced them and said two words. "They know." The guys paused and looked at each other. Cameron went in first, and Sierra glared at him. "Babe, I didn't do anything." Darius and Derrick followed him with Brandon bringing in the rear. Camirra moved to him immediately. She checked him, noting he was bandaged, but still alive. Once she was certain he was safe, she let him have it. Brandon stood grinning as Camirra ripped him a new one. "Do you know how dangerous that was? You could have been killed. Don't ever risk anything like that again." She ranted. "So, I guess you do care." He teased. Camirra took a deep breath and was so annoyed. He was standing there grinning like an idiot. "I save two people tonight, Camirra. I know you're angry, but it was worth it." Brandon stated calmly. Camirra sighed, "OK, smart mouth, what if something happened to you? What would I tell Brian?" Brandon looked at her. "You would tell him this; I was doing something I love." Then he smiled. Camirra forgot to speak. Marge cleared her throat and commended Brandon on being so brave. Every one talked, and Brian and Rory called on Skype. As the group visited, Darius could not help but notice how the young men held his daughters close. Derrick nudged him, "Are you OK?" "I'm fine. It's hard letting go. You'll see when your little ones grow up. But Derrick, I like this guy and his brother. They remind me of us. Look at my baby." Derrick watched his niece as she laughed at the antics of her brother and nephews. Brandon was looking at her wearing a goofy grin. "She's happy." Derrick stated. "Not just happy, I've never seen her smile or laugh like that. He gave her that smile. Besides, that boy went onto a raging fire pulls two people out, and acts as if it was nothing. He's strong. He's honorable. But she's still my baby." Darius explained. Derrick nodded. Soon the night ended, and everyone headed home. Camirra and Brandon stayed and helped with clean up. When they were done, they left with Brandon driving Camirra home. He walked her to the door and she invited him in, and they drank a coffee. Soon, he was ready to go to this hotel. Camirra stopped him. "You can stay here with me." She whispered. Brandon smiled, "I thought you said you wanted to take it slow?" Camirra sighed, "Nothing has to happen. I just wanted you to stay a little longer." "OK, I'll stay tonight, but I'm on the sofa. Nothing has to happen." He sighed. This woman was beautiful. She kissed him, and he knew he would pleasure her tonight. As much as he tried to be all nice and abstain, if he didn't at least touch her, he was going insane. Camirra smiled as he returned to the sofa. "I'm not sure if this s a good idea. I don't have anything to wear tomorrow." Camirra laughed, "We can go to your hotel in the morning. Now watch a movie with me." Brandon smiled, reclined on the sofa and watched the action flick she had chosen. Holding Camirra in his arms, Brandon felt content. For the first time in a long time he knew this was right. When Brian met Rory for the first time, Brandon would laugh at how flustered she made his brother, but now he understood. Each moment he spent with Camirra, he wanted to wrap her in cotton wool to keep her safe but he knew he had to let her take her time. Camirra laughed at something on the screen and Brandon chuckled, "Hey, do you want a drink or something?" She asked. He was not interested in anything but how soft her skin felt as he caressed her. The Soft mewling sounds she made, told him she was enjoying his caresses as much as he was. He lay behind her hard, horny, but determined not to rush her. "No, he answered, as his hand covered her breast. Camirra gasped, and turned as he kissed her. The movie continued to play as her hands too began an exploration of their own. Brandon kissed her, as her bold shifted, opening to welcome him into her warmth. Grinding her heat against him, Camirra moaned. Brandon new they needed to stop. As much as he wanted to strip her naked, and love her until he was all she could see, they needed to wait. It was weird, they dated for months now, but today she shared with him. She told him about her past, and that meant the world to him.. He should have tried to seduce her before now, but something about Camirra was different. She was more than just some girl he knew, some chick he was with. She was the woman he wanted in his life for a lifetime. So when they made love, and it would happen soon, it had to be perfect. Camirra yawned, and Brandon whispered, "Sleep, I'm here." She sighed and they watched the rest of the movie. Camirra fell asleep in his embrace before the closing credits and he happily slept holding her. Soon they fell asleep. For the first time in a long time, Brandon rested, holding Camirra close in his arms. A few hours later Camirra woke, embarrassed that she had invited him to stay only to sleep. She crawled of the sofa and simply looked at him. He was so handsome, almost too handsome to be real. She noted the bandage that was still on his arm. Just knowing he put himself in harm's way gave her pause. However, he was so unlike any man she'd ever encountered before. Her family liked him, and he treated her so respectfully, she felt as if she was in a dream. Moving to her linen closet, Camirra took out a blanket to cover him. She then retired to her bedroom. Brandon awoke a few hours later, cold. Camirra was no longer in his arms, and he was covered. His shoes were beside the couch and he knew she removed them and placed them there. He smiled. Camirra Lace Granger was everything he ever dreamed of. Into the Sunlight Ch. 04 As they ate breakfast, Rory was unusually quiet. "Babe, what's wrong?' Brian asked. "Nothing, just wool gathering." Rory answered. Brian did not believe her. She had been acting strange since she stopped by his office and Marilyn was there. She didn't have to worry about Marilyn, because she was deeply in love with her wife. He was not her type. Brian waited. Finally he had to say something. "Rory, are you tired of me? You've been distant and the past has taught me that when someone starts distancing themselves, they are about to move on." He explained. Rory looked at him shocked. "Do you want someone else? Maybe someone that looks like that woman from your office?" "Baby, you're all I need." Brian replied. Then he took her hand. "Look at me. Camorra Rose, look at me." She did, and Brian stroked her cheek and whispered. "I love you." Rory smiled, as their waitress came over to refill their coffee cups. Soon they finished breakfast, and went home. They decided to go to church together. Brian and Brandon were active members of Grace Baptist Ministries. There pastor and his wife had met Rory and were actively pursuing her to join their fellowship. They knew his brother was dating her sister, but had yet to meet her. So Rory looked forward to service this morning. Brian dropped her off and drove to his house. He actually just bought the house a few months ago. He recruited Rory and by default Camirra to help with decorations. Brandon stayed when he was off call at the fire department. The house was a fixer-upper. So on off days, he and his brothers dressed in their repair belts and went to work. The house was relatively big, with five bedrooms and two functioning bathrooms. He was in the process of remodeling the master bathroom. He dressed for church and drove to pick Rory up. She exited her apartment as he drive up, and he could not help but smile at the dress she had chosen. It amazed him that they were so in sync. He wore a navy suit, light blue top, patterned tie. Rory wore a navy dress with white pin stripes. The outfits complimented each other. Rory walked to the car, as Brian opened her door. She could not help but smile at the fact that they dressed so similarly. Service was wonderful, and they both felt at peace. However, Brain had something he needed to do. He left Rory with some of the sisters in the church as he went to speak with the pastor. The men talked and Brian knew he had made the right decision. Next year, if it was God's will, Camorra Rose Granger would become Mrs. Brian Dean. Now he had to talk to Brandon. Into the Sunlight Ch. 04 Camirra was impressed. "Does Dad ,Jason, Uncle Derrick, Uncle Cameron, Grandpa Nick and Grandpa Marvin know about this room?" Brian laughed. "Actually, I was planning to have them come up. You think they'll like it? Camirra laughed, "Like it. Hell, they'll love it." Then she grabbed the remote, "Whose playing tonight: The Lakers and the Spurs, right?" She asked as she fell back into one of the chairs. "We're watching and this is my seat." Rory laughed and joined her sister. Brian felt good. Camirra approved. She played with the channels for a while, then Brandon called. He knew she had arrived, because she called him earlier. Brian explained that she was enjoying the game room. Brandon laughed. "Man, what a woman!" he sighed. Soon it was time for lunch, and Brandon insisted that they come to the fire house. Brian drove and as they parked, Brandon came out to meet them. However, the only one he greeted with a long scorching kiss was Camirra. After he grabbed her and kissed her, he then spoke to Rory and his brother. The chief came out and the three joined the firemen for lunch. The chief made lunch, roasted chicken breast, cheese and chive potatoes, sweet corn and tea. His wife came down to help him. Besides, she wanted to meet the woman that captivated the young Brandon so completely. Rory and Camirra like the much older woman. She reminded them of their grandmother Jasmine. Brandon didn't like having her away from him, so he kidnapped her from his boss's wife and she joined him at the lunch table. The guys were a playful bunch, sharing stories and laughing. A few even flirted with both Rory and Camirra. Soon lunch ended, and both Rory and Camirra thanked the cook. The chief wished then well and watched them leave. Brandon walked them out, kissing Camirra on the cheek before she could go. When he walked back in, all of his brothers at arms were waiting. The chief spoke. "Young man, you need to marry that girl. If you don't, believe me someone else will." Brandon agreed. He made a decision. Tonight, he and Brian planned a special dinner. His brother Brian was not the only one popping the question. Brandon smiled to himself, as he patted a special box that he kept in his breast pocket. Next year, Camirra Lace Granger would be Mrs. Brandon Dean. Into the Sunlight Ch. 05 This is the final chapter of this story. Thank you Andi for editing. Please read and enjoy. ***** Camirra and Rory went to Rory's apartment. Camirra loved her sister's apartment and stated she wanted to find one similar. Rory waited and then explained that she didn't have to get an apartment, she could live with her. As they talked, she suggested that Camirra move in with her. She had the space, and they could share expenses. Camirra smiled, and was trying to find a way to decline when Rory reminded her that the best times of her life was when she was with her. Camirra gave in and told her sister, if the apartment manager amended her lease, then she would have a new roommate. Rory was excited. They would be together once more. Looking at the time, Rory reminded Camirra that they had a date. They had to get ready, and they helped each other dress, both excited about this dinner. Being twins, they decided to dress similarly tonight. Rory wore a love royal blue short dress with matching Alexandre Burman pumps, and Camirra wore a royal blue and white hi-low sleeveless gown with blue flats. Rory adorned her natural hair with a silk blue band. Rory wore her dark locks long and flowing. Brandon and Brian were picking them up at seven. Brandon's boss gave him tonight off, but he was on reserve for emergency calls only. Before he left the firehouse, his boss gave him pointers. Several of the guys told him not to blow this, and then they watched him leave as they too afforded advice to his brother. Brian was nervous and Brandon told jokes to try and help him relax. He was nervous too, because tonight changed everything for the four of them. Brian drove up to Rory's apartment, and both brothers walked to the door. Before ringing the doorbell, they checked each others suits to make sure they were fitted. The two brothers decided to wear identical suits. Then they both rang the doorbell. Rory opened the door and Brian forgot to breathe. She stepped aside and invited him in; Brandon followed his eyes seeking Camirra. He too was breathless. "Ladies, we have a special night planned. Hopefully, it's a night you'll never forget." Brian whispered, kissing Rory's hand. Brandon kissed Camirra as Brian cleared his throat. He extended his arm and Camirra hooked her arm into his. The two couples left. Brian and Brandon had planned for every contingency. They went to a show first and the performers were outstanding. When the show was over, they then headed to dinner. At the restaurant, the hostess was waiting. Brian had reserved a private room, and their waiter for the night attended them immediately. Rory and Camirra were impressed. Brandon ordered a rare wine and appetizers. Soon their entrees were served and both girls were impressed. Brian was nervous but it was time. "Ladies, dance with us." They requested. The music started and the room was filled with the sounds of a love song crooning in the back ground. Brandon held Camirra so close. She never felt more treasured than in that moment. Rory closed her eyes, loving the secure feeling of Brian's strong arms. The men shared a look and stopped moving. Rory and Camirra were stunned, not sure what was going on. Simultaneously, each man kneeled before his woman, and extracted a black velvet box from his breast pocket. Each man whispered one question to his woman. Brian spoke quietly, "Camorra Rose Granger, you are the love of my life. I can't see my future without you being there. Last week I asked your fathers for their permission, now I'm asking you. Will you take a chance on me? Will you be my wife?" "Yes, yes!' Rory gasped tears streaming down her cheeks. Brian slipped the ring he had chosen onto her finger. He explained the inscription and told her the same message was on the matching wedding band. Rory didn't care about that. She was marrying the love of her life. She looked around and saw the same stunned expression on her twins face as she held on to her future husband. A few minutes earlier as Brian was proposing to Rory, Brandon was doing the same, "Camirra, I know you've had it hard. But I need you to trust me. It's not often that a man meets his other half. Well, I've met her and she is you. I want to spend the rest of my life treasuring you, loving you. Will you marry me Camirra Lace? Let me be the man you spend eternity with." He pulled out the ring and she was silent, crying. Then she whispered, "Are you sure?" Brandon smiled, "All you have to do is say yes." "Yes, yes!" Camirra whispered as Brandon slid the beautiful ring he'd chosen just for her, onto her finger. The sisters squealed and hugged each other then hugged their fiancé's. Soon, the waiter came and they shared the news with him. He was happy for them. They were about to leave when Brian remember that Dee wanted Rory to call. They had no idea Brandon was proposing, but Camirra would need to call as well. Brandon wanted time alone with is fiancé, so he dropped Camirra and Brandon off at Rory's apartment. As soon as they entered, Camirra leaped on Brandon, covering him with kisses. The two needed to be together, and soon Brandon was buried balls deep inside of his woman. She fit him like a glove. Camirra groaned as he loved her as no other man ever had. He was hers, and she was his. They were together. Brandon slowed down, not wanting their connection to end, but soon he came, diving into the abyss with Camirra right beside him. He held her as he remembered to breathe. "Camirra, I love you. I promise to always be there for you and to protect you." Camirra sighed. She believed him. He was the one person she trusted to keep his promise. She snuggled into his strong frame as they slept. Brandon woke early and had to go back to the fire station. Camirra dropped him off and then she returned to Rory's apartment. Soon, Rory sauntered in, all smiles. The two girls squealed. They had to call Momma. Rory dialed, but it was late and Dee didn't pick up. They would tell them but tonight they needed time to celebrate with their future husbands. The night flew by, as neither woman slept. Their excitement spilled over and their guys stayed up with them. The next morning, the girls called both their mothers. They put the phone on speaker and the four shared their wonderful news. Deidre squealed and Cynthia just laughed and congratulated them. They had to go, but they would call back for details later. Camirra called Rosa and Rory called Christiana. Both women were excited for them. Rosa, Christy, their sisters, all wanted to be in the weddings. All of the girls agreed to get together. They hung up, and the sisters were silent. Rory squealed and hugged her sister. They had to plan their wedding. After talking with the family and the guys had gone to dress for work, Rory sighed, "So, we are having a double ceremony, right?" Camirra paused, She ran off and married Charles. This time she wanted to do it right. "Rory, are you sure, because a wedding is a big deal?" Rory looked at her twin. "Do you want your own wedding? I never thought about that. I keep forgetting, we don't have to do everything together." Camirra sighed, "That's not it. This is your first time getting married, You deserve to have your day. I've been married before, so I shouldn't have anything lavish. I'm sure Brian and Brandon will agree." Rory became annoyed, "Camirra, you and this defeatist attitude where you are always saying you don't deserve stuff because you married that asshole is getting old. You were young. You made a mistake. You don't have to keep paying for it. I'm telling Daddy what you said, and I bet he goes off. Here is what I want. I want a double wedding. We were born together. We have gone through so much together. You are my sister and I want to share this day with you." Camirra sighed and smiled, "OK, don't tell Daddy. A double wedding it is. Wait. What if Brandon had not proposed?" Rory smiled, "Oh he was proposing. Brian and Brandon are like us. They are inseparable. They are our other halves." Camirra nodded because she agreed with her sister completely. "I'm calling Mom and Cyn. Are you working today?" Rory nodded and dressed to go in. Camirra called her Mom. She then called her step-mom and aunts. The women were truly happy for them. Deidre was excited. She was not surprised when Jasmine called her. Her daughters were marrying the men of their dreams. She was so happy for them. Being that she was at the hospital, she had to compose herself. Jason was on break when he stopped by her station. She told him Camirra called and that Brandon and Brian proposed. Jason hugged his wife. They knew it was coming, but that didn't lessen the shock. The other nurses heard and everyone was excited. Jason went back to his floor when her phone rang. Darius called. He just had to call her. He'd spoken with Cyn, but for some reason he needed to talk to Dee. Dee told him she was fine. They could talk over dinner. She'd check with Cyn before lunch. She called Sierra and her best friend just like always was willing to listen. She wasn't sure what the girls wanted, but she hoped they wanted a double wedding. Then she thought. Was that fair? She'd let them tell her what she wanted. Each bride deserved to be the center of attention on their special day, and she would give them exactly what they wanted. But secretly, she hoped for a double wedding. Brian was at work smiling when his coworkers demanded to know what was going on. On break he told them he and his brother proposed and their girlfriends accepted. The break room erupted in noise. Two guys came up with suggestions. Since your brother is a groom, then you'll need a best man. I'm here. I promise man, we'll have so much fun you'll never forget. Brian laughed and told them he'd think about it. Brandon was in a daze. His boss came out and asked what was going on. He told him he got engaged and the man hollered out. All of the guys rushed out and told him they had his back. Letting him know what he needed them to do. The Chief called his wife who insisted on coming in and making lunch. The chief relayed the message. The morning went by uneventfully when a call came in. Unit 729, rushed to the scene. A four unit apartment complex was in flames. Three people were trapped inside. Brandon suited up immediately. It was dangerous, but he'd done this hundreds of times. He and two others entered the building. They found three children huddling and passed out in a smoke filled room. Passing the two smaller ones to his teammates and sending them out Brandon grabbed the third larger child and came out last. They had seconds, but as the first two men came out, several explosions rocketed the building. The chief screamed. His men were in there. They needed to get out. They firemen fought and stood aghast as the building collapsed in onto itself. Brandon and his comrades were not seen. It was chaos. The chief rushed forward. The dust and smoke cleared and one of the men yelled out they had them. All three men and the three kids managed by some miracle to get out. The paramedics took over and the chief had to call Brian. Brian felt a chill. Then his phone rang. It was Brandon's boss. He answered and found out where his brother had been taken. He took off. As he drove, he called Rory. Trying not to panic, he told her that Brandon had been injured and was taken to the hospital. Rory called Camirra and went to get her as they headed to the emergency room to see about Brandon. Camirra stayed calm. When they arrived, Chief Morrison met them. Brian was with Brandon. Once again, he was extremely lucky. He managed to escape with minor burns. Brian called Rory and Camirra back. Brandon smiled when Camirra came in. She went straight to his side, and kissed him. "Thank God you are OK." She whispered. Brandon smiled, "I have a reason to fight even more know." Rory held on to Brian and sighed; she had never seen her sister so happy. The nurse came in and told then Brandon could go home only if someone would monitor him overnight. Brian told her they would. Brandon came out and the chief met him. He hugged him, just as he had hugged the other two guys. These young men and women were his kids. He did not want to lose any of them. Camirra and Rory stood with Brandon as Brian drove his car to the front. He helped his brother inside, and Rory followed him to his house. The girls walked in and the couples just held each other close for a moment. Breaking the silence, Brian had one request. "I know this might be unusual, but if you two don't mind, we want a double wedding. Camirra and Rory shared a look. They smiled. Rory hugged her fiancé and kissed him. Brandon held Camirra close. Rory replied, "Whatever you want, my love, it's yours." Camirra smiled, she knew her mom would flip when they told her. The couples were tired. Brian took Rory to his room and Brandon and Camirra went to Brandon's room. Brandon wanted to sleep with Camirra in his arms. She was hesitant. He was still injured, not much but still. Brandon kissed her and told her he would be fine. She smiled and lay behind him. Instead of him wrapping his body around her, she surrounded him with her love. Soon they slept. The next morning, Camirra and Rory were up early. Camirra was visiting the office she was being reassigned to lead, and Rory had to make some repairs to a robotic component that failed. Brandon was off duty for the day and Brian had to report in. Camirra spent the morning with Brandon. Being with him made her smile. Soon she had to go and he kissed her and told her to hurry back. After she left, Brandon started thinking. He had asked her to marry him so he needed to find them a house. He'd start looking today. He wanted to set the date for their wedding soon. She was meant to be his wife. Brandon started researching available homes in the area. He didn't want something too big, but big enough for a family. He most definitely wanted kids, and he was sure she did too. He knew of her history with Charles. She shared with him one night months ago. So he was determined to never treat her that way. She would always be free to say what she needed. Brandon smiled; Camirra Lace was everything he ever dreamed of. For a moment, he was sad. He wished his parents could have met her. Brandon pondered, and he for the first time in a long time, was truly happy. Into the Sunlight Ch. 05 Happy but surprised, she wondered how he was able to purchase property so quickly. Brian hugged her and told her he'd explain later. Trusting her man was easy, but she had to call her sister about this. Camirra answered as soon as her phone rang. "Girl, Brandon bought a house. It's a fixer upper, but he bought it for you guys. It's right down the street from Brian's house." Rory rattled on. Camirra was surprised. She had not saved much, but she was willing to invest with him to secure a dwelling for them. She and Rory planned to get together anyway over the weekend to start planning the wedding. Everyone was coming down except Christiana. She had a new boss, and the lady would not give her the weekend off. She was happy for them and could not wait until they married. They asked about Keith, and knew things were going well from the way Christy sighed his name. She met his parents a few months ago, and his mother loved her. She liked Keith's mother too. She could not talk long because she was at work. Gunther visited Dawn and was heading on another long haul. Before he left he called Christy. She was upset, but pretended not to be. He was going to see her. If someone was messing with his daughter, then he was messing with them right back. Dawn told her brother to please call her and let her know what was going on. Gunther left, headed to see about Christiana. Into the Sunlight Ch. 05 Darius and Derrick chuckled. Gunther looked a bit uncomfortable. Christy smiled and kissed Keith on the cheek, as she placed their daughter in his arms. "Babe, I'll be back." She joined her family. Keith laughed, as did Brian and Brandon. The guys looked on as Trina gladly accepted the challenge. The girls picked teams and the guys cheered their ladies on. Trina was not a great player, but she was a good sport. Everyone was happy to welcome her into the fold.
