Rate and Review please :-) Kay City Romance Monday It had been a long day. My body was sore and I definitely needed a shower, I reeked of hard manual labor. My hair had sweated itself into a mass of tangles stuck flat to my forehead and face; I was the epitome of a hard worker. My clothes were caked with a layer of dust collected over the years in a filthy attic. What's sad is that it isn't even my attic I've been cleaning. The elderly lady next door had been asking me to help clean her attic for a while, and I finally had time with the winter break from my college classes. This past semester had been my toughest yet. I had elected to take anatomy and had never guessed at just how hard the class would be, but boy did I know now. I've lived next to Mrs. Greenwich for two years now and I've noticed that not too many of her family members seem to visit. I know a little about her family from listening to her stories during a shared lunch every now and then. For instance, I know she has three sons and a daughter. I also know that two of her sons have passed away and her remaining children live on the west coast. I can relate to Mrs. Greenwich, or Louise if addressing her directly, because I've lived without my family for some time now. Although not separated by death like hers, my family is separated by old grudges and distance, lots and lots of distance thank god. I'm still close to my mother and brother, but other than that I have no immediate family, even though I have a sister and some other 'should be' close family members. I've worked hard over the years to prove myself to no one in particular. Most of my family believed that I wasn't good enough to go to college and that I should just settle down and pop out babies... Well, that's definitely not happening if I have my way about it. So here I am, about to be a college graduate with a degree that means something. Oh, and ya know... enough loneliness to fill the ocean three times over, but that's just something I try to look over. The guys I've dated in the past were alright, nothing too special. Mostly, they were the kind that just wanted in my pants and be done with it... that obviously didn't work well for me seeing how I've been single for the past two years. Damn, has it really been two whole years? No wonder I'm graduating early... I guess I should introduce myself. I'm Santana, Anna for short and I beg of you not to call me Sandy. I'm around five foot six-ish, very pale skin, a little bit of meat on my bones and I have long red-ish brown curly hair. From what I hear walking down the street, I have a nice rack and apparently a ghetto booty. I've been told that's a good thing... but, I've never been to the ghetto so... I wouldn't know honestly. sigh Yes, sadly, I was that sheltered growing up. Louise had worked my ass off today, sentencing me to hours in her attic sifting through 'fifty years worth of junk' as she referred to it. When I asked why the sudden interest in clearing the clutter, I was informed that her grandson was coming to stay with her for a while and that she thought she'd use the attic for his personal space. I was intrigued by this, I had seen times where Louise would leave to visit but I had never encountered one of them visiting her. I walked up the stairs of my front porch and dug around for my keys. Shit, I must have left them next door. Disappointed, achy, and tired, I made my way back over next door and walked in. I started to yell out to Louise that I had lost my keys when I heard her speaking on the phone. "Yes, I'm so excited! They are perfect for each other and I can't wait for him to get here and meet Anna. I can see my future great-grandchildren now! What? Of course she doesn't know what I have planned, there's no way she would agree. She's much too prideful for such nonsense." Her conversation continued on as I found my keys on the coffee table and bolted for the door. What in the world is that old lady planning?? Future great-grandchildren my ass! I couldn't help but be a little miffed at Louise. I mean, here I am spending my winter break helping her clean out her attic and she's conspiring against me! Well, ok, maybe she's just trying to set me up but if you ask me it's the same thing. I slipped into my claw-foot bathtub and soaked in the steamy hot water, hoping to soak the day's events away. I caught myself wondering what Eli looked like and couldn't help but feel the loneliness swell up inside me again. My heart ached to be treated with love and care like it deserved, but I hadn't found anyone willing to fill that void lately and I didn't hold high hopes of finding someone soon. I decided right then and there to pretend I hadn't heard Louise on the phone, I shouldn't have eavesdropped anyway. I pulled myself out of the tub and did a quick job of drying myself off. It was then my body screamed its protest for sleep. I gladly obliged by slinking towards my big warm bed and quickly dozing off. City Romance Ch. 02 Friday Today is the technical last day of my winter break and with tomorrow being the arrival of the elusive grandson Elijah, I plan on going out with my girls for a night on the town. I was still doing my best to ignore the idea of Elijah coming into town to stay for a while. My mind wandered to my best friend and our upcoming graduation. My best friend Dawn and I have the same major, Anthropology, and we are extremely excited to be graduating in the spring! We've been through every anthropology class together and a few of our electives, and she's more like a sister to me than anything. Our big celebration tonight, however, had nothing to do with our upcoming graduation. Tonight, it was our best friend Joseph's birthday that was the main attraction. Birthdays in our group mean partying it up at the big club downtown, where everyone is dressed to impress and the drinks keep coming. Since my place was closest to downtown, Dawn and I had officially turned my lower level into a beauty salon. Our friends Courtney and Ariel were also getting dressed at my place. The girls had decided to play Barbie and dress me up as they saw fit. This of course was complained about the entire time they were working on my makeup, but the end result was to die for! They had dressed me in a curve hugging black dress that came mid-thigh and paired it with a pair of black gladiator sandals. My hair was left to curl and wave itself and my makeup was tastefully done with a dark smoky eye and red lip. "The guys are going to eat you alive tonight Anna! Maybe we'll break that two year bad streak you've been having." Dawn gave me a wink as she walked out of the room still talking of ending my bad streak. I had to admit, the girl knew what she was doing when it came to clothes and I could definitely stand for some company of someone other than my cat Lila. I locked my front door and waved goodbye to Louise as we passed headed towards Dawn's Honda. I made a promise to myself right then to put all of this past week's nonsense out of my head and focus on having a good time. I just hoped that fate would see fit as to giving me a nice night out. The Club The girls and I piled out of Dawn's Honda and made our way towards the club, finding Joseph almost immediately. Joseph greeted us each as we kissed him on the cheek and wished him happy birthday. "You ladies look beyond lovely." Leave it to Joseph to make us feel nice on his own birthday! We all walked into the crowded club and I made my way towards the bar. "Two whisky sours, a lemon drop, and one beer." I yelled out the usual to the bartender and made my way to our usual table. I couldn't help but notice how many attractive guys were here tonight. Everywhere I looked, there were hot guys with hot bodies dancing on the floor or standing at the bar. Maybe I actually will meet someone tonight... I'm not big on dancing personally. I like to have a good time with friends, but when it comes to rubbing up on strangers, I'm a little more hesitant and tonight was no different. I watched as Dawn and Joseph danced together while Courtney joined in. Ariel had found someone pretty much right after we walked in, leaving me alone at our table. I scanned the room for Ariel, making sure she was still ok and noticed someone watching me from the bar. His warm smile made my skin shiver as I got up to go dance with Courtney. Three songs full of hip shaking and booty grinding later, I felt a pair of hands lightly pull my hips back to dance. Turning around, I was shocked to see the same guy from the bar standing behind me. I turned to glance at Courtney, Dawn and Joseph who were merely feet away. They all had approving smiles on their faces so I turned to the mystery man and smiled. "I saw you dancing earlier and couldn't help myself. You move so gracefully, it's like watching an intimate moment when you dance. I'm Eli by the way." His voice in my ear sent chills down my spine and goose bumps down my body. He had to be around six foot four, with dark hair and eyes. His lean body made my core ache for attention from this god-like man. It took me a few tries, but I finally got the words out. "That's really sweet of you, I'm Anna." A quick glance over my shoulder had our eyes locked together and our lips quickly followed. My brain was screaming at me, while my body acted of its own accord. I've never done anything like this in my life! What is it about this guy that has me melting into his touch. And my god he's such a good kisser! A few moments later, we both pulled away gasping for air. "Can I buy you a drink?" I couldn't talk, my mouth literally would not form words. I nodded and followed him to the bar. My legs felt wobbly and my heart was racing like I had just ran a marathon. Who is this mystery man, and where the hell has he been hiding? The night continued with polite conversation over drinks while we swapped numbers. Neither one of us could deny the connection we were feeling, nor did we really want to. We spent the rest of the evening talking about everything. He told me of how he had just moved here after college and that he was staying with an old friend until tomorrow when he would be visiting family. So that's where you've been mystery man. I glanced at my phone and realized that it was close to 2 am. We walked out together and I found my girls talking by Dawn's car. I told Eli goodnight and started to walk towards Dawn when Eli stopped me suddenly. Startled, I found myself pressed tightly to his chiseled body as his lips softly found mine. He whispered goodnight as he pulled away and watched me walk towards Dawn in a daze. The ride back to my place was filled with gossip of the night's events. Ariel had met up with an attractive man that lived a few blocks from me while Courtney, Dawn and Joseph all danced together. I was distracted from their stories by my cell phone vibrating. A quick glance made my heart jump, my screen read "Text message from Eli." I squealed and everyone stopped talking wondering what the hell was wrong with me. When I blurted out that I had a message from Eli, they all squealed as well and demanded I read it. "Had a great time tonight. Let me take you for dinner tmrw?" A round of screams filled the car again as I stared at my phone. "What should I say back?" "Well, say yes of course! You can't turn that guy down, he was something special." Dawn's response threw me. She's always had a way of reading guys and she was always right in the end. I slowly typed out, "I would love to, call me tmrw w details" as my best friends screamed and giggled around me. When we finally reached my place, we climbed the stairs and headed towards the kitchen. It's a tradition of ours to go snack on fruit and spill about the night's events. I listened to my friends' stories but found myself thinking about Eli and anticipating tomorrow when he would call. * **A/N** Ok, don't yell at me that its short! I'm not going to have alot of time to write this upcoming week, so I thought I'd give you a little taste to keep you coming back for more. City Romance Ch. 03 Monday The weekend went off without a hitch. After spending the night at my place, the girls and I went shopping and decided to stay at Dawn's place to utilize the hot tub and swimming pool. "God Dawn, if I lived here, I'd never leave this pool!" This was the typical response for Ariel, who had coincidentally been on our swim team in high school. "And we'd find you frozen like leftovers in the middle of the winter you idiot. Come eat and let your skin stop looking like a raisin before you get premature wrinkles hobo." Sigh Courtney, isn't it wonderful to have a friend so blatantly honest that rudeness comes natural? That's Courtney, it's a wonder we all don't hate her sometimes honestly, I mean... she's a real pain in the ass sometimes! But of course, in our group, if you can't handle it you get over it and move on. Every since the club the other night, Eli and I have been texting like crazy which makes me giddy to even think about. I secretly wondered what Mrs. Greenwich was doing now that her grandson was here and I wasn't around to meet him. I still can't believe that sneaky old lady! I had left a message in her mailbox that I wouldn't be home this weekend and to call me if she needed anything. So far, no calls, which I can't say disappoints me really. This weekend is about my girls and me relaxing before we finish up our last semester of college. It was abnormally hot for an April day, the temp being over 80 degrees Fahrenheit. So with the warm weather come the skimpy bathing suits and the short shorts. We were all lounging by the pool at Dawn's house soaking up the sun and praying for a tan that would last. I was pleasantly napping when Framing Hanley's song "Slow Dance" jerked me awake.
