Pygia In a well-plotted narrative, the inciting incident may be considered the first cause in the chain of causally-related series of events that follow it. In this essay, I identify 50 possible inciting incidents, keeping them general enough to serve a variety of erotic short stories (or, for that matter, novels). In doing so, I keep in mind the idea that a story must have a beginning, a middle, and an end, and I make sure that each inciting incident leads to the other two parts of the story (the middle and the end). Although some inciting incidents can generate several storylines, and could, therefore, be counted as a single type of inciting incident, I list these variations as separate inciting incidents so as to emphasize how separate stories can often be developed from the same, or a very similar, inciting incident. 1. X sees Y do something (e. g., performing fellatio on his or her boyfriend) (inciting incident), which causes him or her to want to do the same thing (middle); ultimately, he or she does do so (end). 2. From these inciting incidents and the ensuing middles and ends they suggest, many variations of storylines should suggest themselves, and even when two authors set out to write a story based upon these situations, each story will be the author's original contribution to the genre because no two minds think alike and no two individuals draw from the same experiences, the same set of values, or, indeed, the same imagination. Depending on readers' votes, I may or may not offer additional situations. Whether I do or not, though, these fifty should suffice to get one's "creative juices" running.
