Now she was back only really she hadn't told anyone yet not her family, and not even her best friend who still lived in Palm Beach. Walking down the beach she headed for the Shark Shack where Charlie, her best friend since forever, worked. They had kept in touch over the years through email and webcam, a few scattered phone calls but that was about it. As she approached her favorite table she saw the backside of Charlie as he was taking an order. Slipping onto the bench seat she waited for him to turn around. Charlie finished taking the order at the table he was at," Be with you in just a minute," he said not really glancing over at the table, he had heard someone sit down so he was well aware that they were waiting. Layla contemplated speaking but then was sure that it would give her away so she didn't. Instead she couldn't help but watch as Charlie walked away to put the order in. Hopefully the menu hadn't changed because Layla was craving some of the chili that the Shark Shack served, it had just about everything on its menu not just seafood. While she was waiting for him to return she debated calling her sister and her father, she hadn't spoken to either of them since the night of her Highschool graduation. Her sister said she was being selfish by going away to Yale, and her father was always drunk and said if she left she had better not come back. Which then brought on the fact that she had nowhere to go in PB, expect for her job. As a struggling writer she hadn't made it in NY, thus she was back in PB working as a tutor for a couple of spoiled Highschool brats. Luckily for her the new job didn't start til tomorrow, so it gave her the rest of today and tonight to just chill. The Worthington Twins- Vienna & Paris were going to be a handful no doubt as they were rich and seriously spoiled. She would have her work cut out for her but who could complain? Least this job would give her time to write and try and get something published maybe. As she was sitting there Layla couldn't help but wish she was on the beach with some friends, maybe a boyfriend having some fun, a little sex on the beach. She kindda got lost in her thoughts. Charlie had been working at the Shark Shack since High School. It was the one thing that had remained constant in his life, since everything else seemed to have changed. Charlie had been raised by his grandfather, Morris Winters, the richest man in Palm Beach. Because of his upbringing and the continual conflict he had with his grandfather, Charlie was the furthest he could be from materialistic. Wealth and fine things didn't really matter to him. After his grandfather died, he bought himself a house on the beach, nothing incredibly fancy, but it suited all his needs, and it was so much more homey than his grandfather's three story mansion where he had grown up. Charlie had gone to live with his grandfather when he was only six years old and both of his parents died in a plane crash. Morris Winters was a stern and rigid old man. When Charlie's little brother, only three, drowned in the swimming pool a year after their parents' death, Morris blamed seven year old Charlie for the accident. Their nanny hadn't been properly watching the boys, and as a result, three year old Dylan had fallen into the pool. After his grandfather's accusations, Charlie had lost all respect for the man raising him. He couldn't wait for the day he was old enough to get out on his own. Living in the mansion and being raised by a strict, straight laced nanny was like torture for Charlie. If it hadn't been for Layla and her friendship, he might have become as horrible and self centered as his grandfather. He and Layla met the summer after sixth grade. Her mother had just died after a long bought with cancer. Layla's dad had bought the house behind his grandfather's mansion. Though Layla's dad was always drunk and that left her to raise her younger sister, Summer. Palm Beach Ch. 01 One day Charlie had been shooting hoops in his backyard, when he heard a little girl crying. Charlie went to investigate. It turned out that Layla's little sister, Summer had fallen off her bicycle and had a scraped-up knee. "Hey, that looks like a pretty bad scrape your little sister has there. Do you need any help?" Charlie had asked Layla as he approached. " Sure," Layla said, giving him a big smile. They became instant friends and it wasn't long before they became the best of friends. Charlie shared with her all his secrets about his grandfather and their constant fighting, and Layla soon confided in Charlie about her dad's drinking problem and her sadness over having lost her mother. A strong bond developed between them; and even though time had passed and Layla had gone on to Yale to pursue her dream of becoming an author, Charlie still thought of her as his one and only best friend. They hadn't kept in contact as well as Charlie had hoped since Layla had left Palm Beach , but that was mostly his fault. He wasn't much for hanging out online, emailing, or making phone calls. He had pretty much been caught up in his various relationships with girlfriends. None of them had went well. In fact, his most recent one had ended about six weeks ago, and he wasn't looking for another anytime soon. Women seemed to want too much from him. He had a hard time developing an emotional bond in his relationships. His last girlfriend had accused him of only being interested in her for sex and it wasn't long before he told her to hit the road. Perhaps it was true. Charlie had trust issues and most of it stemmed from his bad relationship with his grandfather. Because of his upbringing, he had a difficult time sharing his inner-most thoughts and feelings. Only Layla really knew him and she was the only person on earth he truly trusted. How he missed her. He missed tickling her and making her laugh. Nothing had been the same since she had been gone. As he rounded the corner, carrying a tray of food to table five, he had to do a double-take, seeing a familiar face at the far table in the corner, the table that Layla had always deemed "Hers." "Layla!" he called out, setting the tray down absent-mindedly as he ran to her, picking her up in his arms. He swung her around, his excitement evident as he laughed deep in his chest. He then set her down again on the bench as he continued to grin. "God, I missed you!" he said. "When did you get back? And why didn't you tell me you were coming? And are you back to stay?" Layla was a little out of breath when Charlie grabbed her up in his arms with so much enthusiasm. She was ecstatic that he was so happy to see her. He looked so good and it was great to be held in his strong arms again. She gazed into his eyes, her own smile brightening her face. "I missed you, too. And I wanted it to be a surprise," she answered. "And yeah, I'm back to stay." "Things haven't been the same without you here," Charlie told her. "We have so much to catch up on. After I get off work, I will tell you everything." "I have a lot to tell you, too," said Layla. "I gotta get back to work now. I'll be right back to take your order," Charlie promised, suddenly remembering his duties. He rushed off to take the tray of food to table five, then he returned to Layla's table. "What'll it be?" he asked. "The usual?" Charlie knew what Layla's favorite was. She loved the chili, served with finely-grated cheddar cheese and a side of crackers. "Yep, you know me so well," said Layla, a huge grin on her face. "And I'll have a glass of iced tea with that. Lemon of course." "Of course," he said with a wink. "Be right back with your drink." When he came back with the tall glass of iced tea with lemon, he sat down opposite her. "I'm on my break now. So tell me, where are you staying here in Palm Beach? You're not staying with your dad and sister, are you? I really think you should stay with me... at my place. I have plenty of room. And you will like it there. A nice view of the beach. Nothing like watching the sun rise on the ocean in the morning. Say you will stay with me. I missed you so much, Layla," coaxed Charlie, practically begging. "I--- I don't know," Layla answered. "I really hadn't thought about where I'd stay yet. But you are right. Dad's house is definitely out. I wouldn't stay there if my life depended on it. I can't stand to be around his drinking." "Then it's settled. You will stay with me." "Okay," Layla agreed, reaching over and giving his hand a squeeze. "If you're sure. I wouldn't want to get in the way of you and your girlfriend...." "What girlfriend? We broke up," Charlie said with a shrug. "Oh... Well, you don't seem too upset about it," Layla noted. "I'm not. She got on my nerves. Accused me of only wanting her for sex," Charlie said. "Imagine that." "Yeah... Imagine that," said Layla with a little laugh. "I know your reputation." "It's all lies... I'm a good boy," Charlie said teasingly. "Yeah right... I know better," Layla said, because she knew him better than anyone. He was a Casanova. It was a well known fact. And he never once let himself get close to any of the gals he had dated, that's why the relationships had always gone sour. "Hey now," he said with a little pout. "I will try to be good from now on then... I promise." "You're terrible," Layla giggled. The bell rang then, letting Charlie know that the next order was ready. "Be right back," he said. When he came back, he returned with Layla's food. He set it before her, then said, "Well, looks like after you finish, we can go back to my place. My shift is done." "This looks great," said Layla, seeing the piping hot bowl of chili. It had been so long since she had enjoyed something so delicious, and she savored every last bite. As she munched on her meal, Charlie sat down and chatted with her. "So, how long have you been living in the beach house?" she asked him. "About a year and a half. And I have a couple of roommates actually," he told her. "You do? Are you sure you are going to have room for me then?" she asked him. "Of course. It's just my dog and a cat," he explained. "Gramps never let me have a pet growing up you know." "Kewl. A dog... AND a cat. I thought for a minute you had a couple of harem girls you were hiding or something," Layla said teasingly. "I wish," he said with a wink. "Ohh... you are sooo bad." "Hey, you are the one who said it... not me!" Layla grinned, so glad to be back. Charlie always made her laugh and smile. She had missed him terribly. She wondered what life would be like living with Charlie. She didn't really know, but one thing was for certain they had some serious catching up to do. After awhile, she had finished her chili. "That really hit the spot," she told him, after paying the bill. "Thanks. But I'm just the waiter, not the cook," he said, giving her a kiss on the cheek as she slipped him a tip. "You're worth it," she insisted, as they left the Shark Shack together. "So what are you driving nowadays?" She looked around for his wheels, wondering which one of the vehicles nearby might be his. "Actually, I drive a motorcycle," Charlie said. "But it's parked at my place which is only about a block from here." "A motorcycle?" Layla said, raising one eyebrow. "Charlie, we really DO have a lot to catch up on." "That we do," he smirked as they headed down the street to his beach house. Palm Beach Ch. 02 As they walked towards his house Charlie couldn't help but wonder if Layla had left behind some boyfriend or some guy, they rarely talked about her love life when and if they talked about dating. Though if she was here back in palm beach than that probably meant whoever he was that he was no longer in the picture right? Least he hoped that was the case because he really didn't think that she would be returning if there was some guy waiting for her. Palm Beach hadn't exactly held the fondest memories for the two of them it seemed, well for himself mostly if he was being honest. Layla glanced over at him," What?" she asked after a second. "I'm not going to have some crazy boyfriend calling up at the house looking for you or showing up am I?" Charlie finally asked." "Oh haha funny," she replied. "No you don't have to worry about that. Let's just say guys don't seem to like staying in my life." Most of the few boyfriends that she had had all either didn't want to commit or wound up cheating on her. "Well they probably weren't good enough for you anyway," Charlie said with a smile. She couldn't help but smile at that Charlie always had a way of making her smile. This in turn made her super glad that she was finally back though she had really missed him and as she glanced over at him she couldn't help but smile again. "Why are you so smiley tonight?" he asked with a smirk. "I'm happy," she admitted. Charlie had always been amazed at how little it took to please Layla and to make her happy. She wasn't so wound up and high maintance like practically every other girl in PB." As long as I can take credit for that smile on your face," he said with his trademark grin. Layla laughed," Alright you get credit for it," she said. "So tell me what brought you back home?" he asked. "Well I wasn't having much luck getting anything published," she admitted after a second. "Guess I'm not that great of a writer." "On what planet! You always wrote killer English papers in Highschool." " Thanks, but no one really reads romance anymore I guess." " Oh god not that candle light and soft music shit?" "I think if you read what I wrote than you wouldn't say that. It's not just all candle light and soft music. There is more to it." " Well unless it's got lots and lots and I mean LOTS of sex in it then it's bound to put anyone to sleep." Layla stopped walking for a second and looked at Charlie." Sorry was joking," he said quickly, not entirely but knowing himself he wouldn't read something sappy so that ruled out any guys that might buy a book. "No you're right," she said after a moment." I mean there is some sex in it, but maybe not enough." Charlie casually slung an arm around her shoulders and began propelling her towards his house again." Well feel free to experiment on me," he said wiggling his eyebrows. That almost brought a blush to Layla's cheeks instead she gave him a look," Yeah right," she teased. Though she wouldn't deny it because it might be fun to experiment and do a little bit of research with Charlie. "Oh come on," he coaxed. "You know you'd love every second of it," he said once they finally got to his house." I actually know this one spot that's got a great view you could take pictures of it and it might help you out a bit. I mean that is if you want help; because really I'm sure your story is great, just need to adjust it a bit." As they got to Charlie's and he was talking Layla's eyes landed on the motorcycle that he had parked. "Actually," she said changing her mind. "I'd like to see that spot." When he saw the way she was looking at his bike he had to chuckle," Alright let me grab the digital camera for you to take pictures with." Unlocking his front door they stepped inside of his house. Flipping on the lights he headed towards the bedroom to grab it. That gave Layla the chance to take a quick look around the beach house which looked very comfortable and cozy. There was even a fireplace in the living room with a bearskin rug thrown out in front. Layla couldn't help but wonder what it would feel like to have Charlie take her on that rug with a roaring fire behind them. His strong hands sliding across her skin, slowly parting her legs as he lowered his head to---------------. "Okay found it!" Charlie said as he returned turning off the bedroom lights behind him bringing Layla out of her thoughts. Layla shook her head slightly as her thoughts had been interrupted what had she been thinking! Charlie was her best friend really and anyway she'd never want to just be another notch on his bedpost. "Great!" she said putting on a bright smile. At the hall closet Charlie grabbed two helmets and two jackets handing one of each to Layla, before they headed out of his house turning off the lights and locking the door behind them. Climbing onto his bike he straddled it expertly and Layla's eyes couldn't help but travel down to see the way he was sitting. Quickly though she got on behind him after putting on the jacket and helmet. He had put on his jacket and was pulling on his helmet as he felt Layla straddle the bike behind him. Starting the bike up him pulled away from his house as Layla wrapped her arms around him from behind. The ride down the road he could feel her body pressed up against his backside even through the jacket that he was wearing. The angle of her nice curves and the way her arms were wrapped around him, it was making him hard. Luckily for him the ride was only about twenty minutes or so and he didn't have to think about for long. The spot was away from all the beaches and stuff it had a lot of cliffs and caves, running water and you could see the sunset from one of the spots. Charlie had maneuvered his bike over to where you could see the sun set giving the sky a nice look. Climbing off he turned to look at Layla after removing his helmet to see her removing hers. The way that she was straddling his bike fuck! She looked amazing he quickly turned on the digital camera and snapped a couple shots of her one of which captured her shaking out her gorgeous dark hair. "What are you doing?" she asked raising an eyebrow at him," I thought the camera was to capture the scenery?" " That's exactly what I am doing," he promised not taking his eyes off of her. "Charlie for real,"Layla said suddenly feeling the wetness between her legs as he was talking like that, it turned her on like she had never experienced before now. Shifting slightly on the bike leaning forward just a bit as she was still straddling his bike. "Fuck," Charlie suddenly breathed out loud watching her." Lean forward and do that again." " Charlie!" Layla laughed moving to climb off the bike," You really need to get laid. You sound like you're asking me to hump your bike." " I am," he murmured.
