One was during my highest emotional peak and the other was when I was at my lowest. Then there's this last one... This last one was when I had restored hope in my all too trusting heart about love, but that's another story. What I want to get off my chest today is my very first heart break. I was nineteen years young and new to dating. Growing up I never had a steady boyfriend. My dad was strict and my mom was my dad's shadow. I never partied and never went anywhere on the weekends. I had school friends but when that final bell rung it was back to prison with no visitation. You would expect me to rebel in my teenage years but need I mention my dad was as crazy as they came. I liked my teeth and I semi liked my life. I didn't want to do anything that could jeopardize those two things. My dad eventually forced me to join the military when I got out of high school. Of course I did exactly what he told me no matter how much I begged to stay. I hated every part of every fucking day of basic training. When I graduated I never looked back the entire ride off the base. Instead I closed my eyes and breathed out a sigh of relief that night made was over. After basic training I was shipped off to another base for A.I.T. (advanced individual training). That was where I learned what I would actually be doing for the next four years of my pathetic life. This is also the place that set me up for a string of disappointment in the men I chose. Arriving to the base I had a horrible attitude because basic training was still on my mind. I had nothing to compare this place to except the old place I left. Assuming the worst and expecting Murphy's Law I took my bags and my attitude to the front desk. Checking in I glance to the left and see two guys checking me out. With the scowl immediately back in place I look straight ahead. After I was escorted to my new barracks, I decided to wander around for a bit with my new roommate. We walk toward the courtyard and as I'm talking I hear a guy calling out "Yo shorty!". Not bothering to turn around because I already know they're talking to my roommate the guy runs up and stops in front of us. Noticing it was the same dude from earlier checking me out I stared hard at him. He was about 6'2 and had a slim build like a basketball player. He had a pleasant face with minimum hair on his chin. His teeth were nice and white. Standing next to my 5'3 frame he actually seemed kind of huge. The thought of him stomping toy villages crossed my mind and I smiled. Not realizing I was still looking at him as I had my entertaining visuals he glanced down catching me. He returned the smile and held out his hand. "I'm Jacob Lattimore but nobody calls me that, so it's Jay for you." "For me huh, my name is Daisy Rogers bit nobody calls me that , so it's Private First Class Rogers for you." My roommate decided to intervene after the exchange saying, "Jay I'm Erin and we need to get out of this sun if we're going to talk about our life story with you." Jay gives me an odd look as he acknowledges Erin's suggestion. Shuffling us to a nearby tree with a picnic table under it he asks, "Why are you being so mean little one?" "I'm not being mean I just don't want to be here." I reply. "Why not? You don't like being in Georgia for the summer, it's only September I'm pretty sure the weather gets cooler." "I don't mean here as in Georgia, I mean here as in the Army." "Then why did you volunteer?" Erin interjected. Laughing at Erin's puzzled expression I say "Girl I didn't volunteer I was voluntold by my dad." "Your dad made you join the Army so you're going to take it out on everyone you come across for the next four years. That's a long time to stay mad, you sure you're going to be up for that challenge?" Jay asked giving me a sly smile. "I mean I'm doing pretty good right now ain't I?" I give him a half smirk. I'm starting to like him, sarcastic charm and all. "So y'all want to play some basketball with me and my friends or what?" Jay asked gesturing toward the court. "I don't know the rules that well but I can do lay ups easy." Erin says. "I'm down." I walk over to the court with him and immediately grab the ball from his hands. He gives me a long intense look. "You want to play rough huh?" "What you got midget?!" I bait him. "Midget? I see you got trash talking down pact." Dribbling the ball slowly toward me he fakes left, goes right and lays it in the basket easy. "I'm warming up I don't want to go too hard on you this early." I say as I catch the ball and throw it back to him. "Nah baby, no excuses!" He yells as he makes a drive around me for the basket. This time I anticipate his moves and he feigns left but goes right again. Only I'm there to snatch the ball and he continues to dribble air before he realizes he no longer has a ball. Standing off to the sidelines is a group of guys who got extremely loud when they saw what happened. I didn't even know they were watching. Embarrassed and feeling shy I duck behind Jay with the ball still in my possession. "Jay I guess you just tall for no reason since your ass don't know how to play ball!" Yells one of the rowdy boys. "Shut up bruh I let her do that cause I felt bad for her." The boys walked onto the court and started shit talking Jay. I look at Erin wondering if she was getting as thirsty as I was. She was standing on the court staring at one of the guys who walked over. "Uhhh Erin are you okay?" Snapping out of her trance she says quickly "Yeah I'm alright why you ask?" "Cause you were slobbing for two minutes looking at the dude in the red shorts that's why." Laughing Erin defensively yells was not!" Jay looks back and says "Hey y'all want to meet my friends?" "Daisy and Erin this is Slime, Redd and Jones." Slime was about 5'9 and okay looking in a plain Joe type of way. Redd was the guy Erin was openly eye fucking a few minutes ago. He was gorgeous. Short black hair, deeply tanned skin and the most beautiful hazel eyes. He was pretty tall at about 6'3 and had the athletic build of a wide receiver. Jones was cute in a goofy way. He seemed like a class clown. Standing at 5'7 he was the shortest of the group but also the more approachable one. Extending his hand to me he said "Nice to meet y'all." Thinking he was going in for a regular shake he did some odd twisty thing with his fingers, grabbed my palm, released it and snapped his fingers." After we awkwardly disengaged I attempted to say something polite back so I asked "How come you don't have a cool nick name? Did you guys run out of random objects?" "Ooooooooo this one got a lil mouth on her Jay, and I don't have a nickname cause-" "Cause he's not cool!" Jay interjected. Laughing I look to Jay and he has this glint in his eye as if he was trying to keep Jones from having a conversation with me. I kind of felt like he was being protective and I liked it. "Come on y'all, let's play some ball! Erin I haven't seen you go for the ball not one time since you stepped on this court!" Redd says. Shocked to be called out Erin stammers "Uhhhhh that's because I was observing for a few minutes." Gently removing the ball from my side Davis looks down and asks "May I see the ball?" "Yeah go ahead, it's not like you don't already have it in your hands or anything." Smiling I walk over to Jay who's under the net. "I can already tell we ain't gone get along." Davis teased. Setting up to guard me Davis decided to move extremely close. With his back to Tue ball and his from facing me he gets unnecessarily low. Face to face he smiles at me and I giggle at how ridiculous he looks. Jay slightly pushes Davis back and says "Man, why don't you guard Erin." Davis looks back and says "Redd guarding her." "Then go guard Slime cause I got Daisy." "You blocking like a motherfucker right now and ain't talking about basketball." Running over to Slime, Davis posts up again. "Why you being so mean?" I repeat back to him imitating his voice but with a slight whine to it. Ignoring me he steps in front of me and catches the ball. Dribbling backwards towards the net he backs into me little by little until I try to reach around him ad steal the ball. Losing his footing he stumbles forward and I grab the ball from him again. Dribbling isn't my strong point so I try to back into him to throw him off balance. I didn't realize the position I had gotten myself into until it was too late. We were but to but and I could no longer tell if I was backing into him or he was pushing forward onto me. All I remember is everything going in slow motion after the delicious contact. His body was almost grinding on mine and my hands were moving too slow to keep up with the ball. He bent a little lower and whispered in my ear. "You keep playing like that and I might have to wear a condom if you try to play with me again." Reaching around me he ended up with the ball. Distracted from his body heat, the heat in my wars and the warmth rushing between my legs I lose focus of the people around me. I run after him as he dunks the ball into the net and I jump up too late to stop him but just in time to crash back down to the planet... Or so I thought. At the last possible second I'm gripped at the waist from behind and land safely against a body I know is not Jay's. Jay was standing in front of me with a murderous look in his eye. Looking back to find the source of his aggression I lock eyes with Davis. Davis looks at me with his signature goofy grin and quickly let's me go. Running back to his side of the court pretending to be oblivious of any animosity Davis starts joking around with Slime. "You know you don't have to play so dirty." I tease Jay trying to lighten his mood. Smiling he looks at me and says "Pretty sure you backed into me, I reacted the way any man seeking a championship would." Grazing my chin with his index finger he gets super close to me again and smiles harder. "Ayyyyy formation in ten minutes! Everybody form up in your plattoons!" Yells a random Sergeant from Bravo Company. "Damn I guess that's it for the night huh?" Jay says to me as we walk off the court. "I guess so. It was fun though." I smile up at him. "You going to the dining facility later?" He asks. "Yeah, are you?" "Yep, what time you going?" "I don't know like 7 maybe?" I hesitate. Not sure if he wanted to go that late. "Alright cool, it's a date then." Laughing I turn away and say over my shoulder "See you there!" Catching up to Erin I jump up and down "I got a date! I got a date!" "A date where? We can't go off post it's Thursday." She asks confused. "No silly we're going to the dining facility together!" Laughing waaaaaaay louder and longer than she should have she finally gets herself together and says *Girl you got a date to the DFAC! That's not a date unless you grew up sheltered." Still laughing she quickly sobered up when our platoon Sergeant walked by the formation. Feeling embarrassed and a little hurt I stand at attention wondering if she knew how close to the truth she was.
