This story is meant to be a sequel to Two Worlds but I believe that it can be read as a standalone story. I got an editor and he did a wonderful job. So thanks Peter! I did add about two and a half pages in Word to this after he edited it so any mistakes are completely my fault. Also anyone that wants me to email them when my chapters are up just go to the "contact" section of my members page and let me know! I hope you enjoy and as always your comments are always welcome and appreciated! ~Vixen * Let me just say that Alaska is freaking cold. I did just come here from sunny and hot California so it's no wonder I'm freezing my ass off but still! The average summer temperature should not be 62 degrees anywhere in the world, that's winter weather damn it! "It's not that cold." My long time best friend, Riz, said as we drove along the road towards her family's cabin. "It's actually pretty warm today." "You call this warm?" I asked with a raised eyebrow. She laughed at that. "Well I guess since I've been here a few years I've gotten used to it." She added. "Yeah well I just touched down from Cali hon. I'm used to the hot summers and mildly cold winters. Remember that?" "Yeah, yeah. I know... I miss that." She sighed a little wistfully, trying to search back half a decade. "I bet you miss running around in just a swimsuit and getting a suntan." I said with a chuckle as I remembered the summers where we would do just that. "Yeah..." Riz mumbled and I was sure she was thinking about those summers as well. "Or sunburns in your case." She added with a chuckle. We continued to talk as we headed towards her family's cabin, catching up a bit on the things we missed the last five years. It wasn't much since we had texted and e-mailed each other almost every day, but talking about everything face to face made it seem more real and added the emotional touch that modern media just can't convey. Riz's family had moved here five years ago when her father was transferred to another branch of the fishing company he worked at. It was heartbreaking to watch Riz and her family leave but thankfully with the world of technology we live in we had been able to keep in contact the whole time. I told her about what was going on with all our crazy friends and people at home and she told me about the new friends she had made. The plan was always for me to visit as soon as we graduated from high school, spend the summer together and then I would bring her back with me so we would move into the dorms of UCLA and start on the path to our careers, Riz as a playwright and me as an actress. We were so excited to be going and living on our own together. The cabin coming into view as we turned onto their "road" pulled me out of my thoughts and I realized how much I was looking forward to seeing Riz's family. They had been like a second set of parents and siblings to me for most of my life so I missed them almost as much as I missed Riz. We slowed down and pulled into the garage before getting out and grabbing my bags. Before we got to the door leading into the house someone opened it and stepped out. "Tristan!" I exclaimed happily and jumped into his arms. He laughed and hugged me before taking my bags, always having to be the gentleman. "Hey Mini, how was the flight little one." He teased as if the five years I hadn't seen him hadn't passed by at all. "I'm not so little anymore, I grew two more inches!" I said defensively. Granted it still left me at only 5' 3" but it was worth pointing out I had grown a bit. Tristan just chuckled though and I grumbled as I followed his six foot frame into the house. I saw the smile on Riz's face but she tried to hide it. She knew how sensitive I am about my height and also how her brother loved to tease me endlessly about it. It seemed like nothing had changed. "Mina!" a female voice called from the kitchen. "Momsy!" I said happily as I gave her a hug. One day back in Cali we were teasing around and I called her "Momsy dearest" and it kind of stuck. "Oh my goodness Mina darling, how are you? Look at you! You've gotten so big and look at those curves! You look like a woman now honey." She said as she looked me over, getting a little teary eyed. I smiled and hugged her tightly, assuring her that I was great before letting her continue with making dinner and started to take off all my heavy outer clothes in the entryway. When I got back into the living room in just my jeans and long sleeve shirt, Sky was just wondering in. "Little sis!" I said and ran to give her a hug. I hugged her tightly and she looked slightly surprised. She wasn't really all that little in truth. Riz and I were both 19 and she was about a year younger than us but we still called her "little sis" because we knew it bugged her sometimes no matter how endearing it was or how affectionately it was meant. "I thought you weren't supposed to be here until the 8th." She said in confusion. "Today is the 8th silly." I said as I ruffled her raven hair. She grumbled slightly and fixed it like she always used to do and I laughed. I went into the kitchen after that to see if Momsy needed any help but she seemed good so I sat down at the table with Riz, Tristan, and Sky to catch up a bit more. "I'm home!" Riz's father called as he came in through the garage door. "You wouldn't believe the disaster at work today. It took five of us- Mina! Hey kiddo!" He gave me a huge hug, still in most of his warm clothes. "I'm not really a kid anymore Dave!" I said with a smile as I hugged him back. "I know! You've gotten so big! It's been too long. What have you been up to?" I sat down and started talking about my life recently and how the plans for college were coming along while he took off his outer clothes. "Riz honey! Why don't you show Mina to your room and help her get settled in while I finish up dinner. It should only be about ten more minutes." Momsy called out a few minutes later and Dave waved me away, there would be plenty of time to catch up over dinner and the coming summer. "Alright. Come on Mina. Wait until you see it! I've got all of it set up in my favorite colors of course and my bed has a roll out bed under it where you'll be sleeping!" Riz said as she got up and pulled me up. I followed her to her room, smiling and grabbing my bags as we went. "Whoops! Sorry! I got so excited I forgot about your stuff!" She said before helping me carry them. We got to her room and I smiled as I saw that almost everything was purple and light blue. Her bed was in the far right hand corner of the room and had purple sheets with blue and silver trim. There was a small desk in the far left corner across from the door that had her computer and a few papers scattered around on it. There was also a closet filled with clothes to my left and a book shelf and dresser to my right. The hide-a-way bed was rolled out from under her bed and set up all nicely. I set the bag down and looked around more carefully, taking in the details of the room that was to be my home for the next few months. There were posters on the walls of a few fairies and some beautiful forest scenes and a corkboard hanging on the wall with tons of pictures, most of them the two of us, frozen memories that made me smile as I went over and looked at them more closely. "I was thinking about making a collage." Riz said with a smile. "Remember this time at the beach? You nearly killed James!" "Only because he put a crab in my sand bucket!" I said before laughing quietly at the memory. "Have you talked to that boy lately?" she asked with an eyebrow wiggle. I rolled my eyes at her before going to my bag and opening it up. "Honestly since he broke up with me, for no good reason, he hasn't really been hanging around our group. I think he thought there was a better piece of ass to chase elsewhere." I said, slightly frustrated as I started to unpack a bit. "And here I thought he would come around and realize what a great girl you are and beg you to take him back." "And I would have said no." I said firmly. "That's my girl." Riz smiled and I couldn't help but laugh a bit. "What about you? Any guys you're crushing on that you haven't told me about?" I asked knowingly. "Wellll. Maybe there's this one guy I ran into that's really super hot, I mean melting the snow away around him kind of hot." We both giggled and I was about to ask her for more information but we were interrupted. "Girl's! Dinner's ready!" Momsy called from the dining room. "Hmm... Think it's a scam to get us to set up the table?" I asked with a grin. "Nope. We have a system now. It's Tristan's turn tonight." Riz said before leading me out into the kitchen. ~ After a lively dinner we all sat down in the living room and turned on the TV. No one was really paying attention to it though as we all were still talking and catching up. All except Sky, who seemed to be staring off into space and hadn't really been talking a lot at all, which seemed rather weird to me. "What's up with Sky?" I whispered to Riz when the others started debating something that we were not really interested in. "I don't know, it's been really weird. She hasn't really been very social or anything lately and she's even gone missing a few times. She always shows up a few hours later but we are all getting really worried about her to be honest. I think she might be messing around with dru-" "Everyone be quiet for a moment." Sky suddenly said, her eyes locked on the TV. We all glanced at her weirdly before looking at the TV, seeing the news on. Dave turned it up a bit and we all watched in shock at what unfolded. "It has been confirmed that these creatures are in fact an entirely new species and not a hoax." The news woman said as we all stared at the picture of what was clearly a human/cat hybrid. It reminded me of the nekos from Japanese animes. "They were originally found by Jessica Baker when she fell through a hole in the mountain five years ago. However they were finally revealed to the general public on a live broadcast where Charles Wesley was chased out of a cave by three of them. The government decided to then send a group of armed forces to inspect the cave after the three originally found tried to attack the news crew. Here is an exclusive video that one of the armed forces himself managed to catch of what happened that day. A warning to parents: This does contain some rather graphic images." I couldn't take my eyes off the screen as the video came on. It wasn't the best of quality and it started off rather dark but after a few moments it got brighter as they seemed to go from dark caves to a forest. Soon a crudely made wall appeared and the team followed it to the entrance of a village of these creatures. Almost all of the nekos stopped and looked at the people around them and a few started to back away a bit. "Please get on the ground now!" One of the men called out to the nekos. A few of them seemed to call out something and it was obvious that they didn't understand English at all. One of the male looking ones started to slowly approach them with what looked like an amazed expression on his face. He was looking at something off screen and he smiled and reached for whatever it was. "I said get on the ground!" The nekos still didn't seem to understand what was going on and the one male kept slowly moving towards whatever was off camera, talking in a language, that's sounded completely alien and unlike anything I had heard before, and smiling. A few moments later a few male nekos approached with spears and started talking to the others in their "clicks and purrs". "Put the weapons down or we will fire!" someone called. One of the males with spears looked at them curiously before slowly approaching. "Don't move!" but the neko obviously didn't understand. "Wait!" a female voice shouted right before a shot was fired and hit the neko in the chest. From that point on it was chaos, spears were thrown and more shots rang out, the cameraman tried to follow it but the screen was a blur of muzzle flashes and shadows and the sound filled with gunshots and screams. We were watching a massacre until a woman suddenly appeared on the tape dressed like the nekos with a baby in her arms and a young neko on her leg. "Please don't hurt them! They mean you no harm! They just want peace! Please!" She pleaded with the armed forces. "I'm sorry Ma'am but this is for your own good." A man said before pulling her away as someone else pulled the neko child off her leg. "No! Please! He's my son! Please not my son! Zeezu!" She screamed out. "Eene! Mommy!" the little neko child cried out. The rest of the video was rather blurred and shaking as they gathered up the nekos and found three other humans among them. Soon the video ended and it went back to the news woman. "We do not know what has happened to these creatures however it seems that every member of every branch of the government is discussing their point of view on it." "We should study these creatures. Find out if they have any relation to our own species." "These creatures are a threat! They need to be eliminated!" "They seem to have intelligence. Perhaps we can live with them. Integrate them into society." The talking heads kept coming but not one of them seemed to agree with the other and there were more than a few platitudes and soundbites for the next news cycle. "We are inspecting the cave system and a few others like it to see if we can find any other species like these. It has yet to be decided what to do about them however and for now they are located in an undisclosed area for safe keeping." The President said briefly. "Well no matter what happens to these creatures, one thing is certain: We are not alone on this planet." It went to commercial but I was still staring at the screen in shock and disbelief. It was like I was just frozen there, trying to wrap my head around what I just saw. It was almost impossible to believe and if it hadn't been on a reliable national news network I don't know if I would have believed it at all. After a few minutes of just staring at the TV, Tristan voiced the question that I'm sure was running through all of our minds. "What the hell?!" ~ "This is crazy." Riz said for probably the fifteenth time in the last hour as we lay in bed. I stared at the ceiling and thought about the last hour or so. After Tristan's outburst we all started to talk about what we had just seen, trying to wrap all our heads around the idea that there had been another intelligent creature on our planet that we hadn't known about. Almost all of us agreed that if we had thought there had been anything intelligent besides human beings out there we thought it would have come from outer space. We talked about what we thought it would mean for the future. The only person who didn't join in on the conversation had been Sky. She stayed strangely quiet and after only a few minutes she left the room. "Do you think they'll find other species?" Riz asked suddenly, snapping me out of my thoughts. "What do you mean?" I replied, not sure what she was talking about. "Well you heard what the President said, right? He said he had people looking in other caves and stuff to see if there is anything else out there. Do you think they'll find anything?" I blinked, having forgotten about that part. I bit my lip and thought about it for a moment. "I don't know. I mean normally I would say no but since they actually found something in caves that we never knew about... I really don't know." I said with a shrug. We both sat there in silence for a few minutes before Riz spoke again. "What do you think is wrong with Sky?" "Huh?" "She acted really weird after seeing the news. And she was the one who pointed it out. I mean things have just been so weird with her lately anyways but she acted really weirdly about this." "Well she seemed like she was just thinking it over. We were all kind of shocked by it." "But you didn't look at her while the news was playing. She started to almost looked panicked at some point. I swear she's hiding something." I shrugged my shoulders and continued to look up at the ceiling, feeling a bit weird wearing long sleeve pajamas. I thought about how everyone was taking the news at home and thought about calling my mom tomorrow. I was about to fall asleep when I heard a light noise outside the room. "What was that?" Riz whispered, sitting up. I sat up as well and we looked at each other before bother getting up and creeping silently to the door. Riz opened it silently before peeking out into the hall way. She opened it more and I followed her down the hall and into the living room. We saw the light of the refrigerator come on and quickly hid behind the couch. We looked over the couch and looked into the kitchen. Sky was there with a bag and was filling it with food. She looked slightly panicked and like she was in a hurry. She finished filling the bag and then started to put on her coat and boots and everything. Riz and I looked at each other before ducking as Sky passed by and went to the door. She opened it quietly and slipped out into the freezing weather. "Where is she going at this time of night?" I whispered in confusion. Riz got up and looked out the window before starting to grab her coat. "There's no car out there so she has to be walking somewhere. Come on. We need to go after her." She said, handing me my coat. I groaned, having hoped that I wouldn't have to go outside into that cold for awhile. I slipped on my coat though and all the other heavy warm clothes as Riz did the same. She grabbed a flashlight and then opened the door silently and we walked out. "Let's get this over with please." I said, my teeth chattering a bit. Riz nodded before starting to head towards where we had seen Sky's light disappear to, hoping to find it again. Thankfully it wasn't snowing or windy, so we moved at a pretty decent speed. I looked around and saw nothing but darkness in front of us. "Where did she go?" I asked, my teeth still chattering a bit. Riz stopped and looked around, trying to find any sign of light anywhere. "She couldn't have gone far. And we would have seen a car if she had gotten in one..." she said, sounding a bit frustrated. "Let's go that way a bit." We walked off in the direction she pointed, still looking around for a light or any sign of Sky anywhere. After what felt like hours we still couldn't find any sign of her. We were both freezing and starting to get worried since it was very easy to get hurt and die of cold and such out here. "What is she slipped and broke her leg or something?" I asked. "We'll continue looking for a few minutes and then head back. It's only going to be dark for a couple more hours anyways since it's summer. If nothing else it will be easier to find her once the sun comes out." Riz responded as she continued moving forward. "Do you think we'll need a search par-" I started to say before hearing a cracking noise and freezing in place. Riz froze too and we both heard a bit more cracking. "Move very slowly back the way we came." Riz whispered. We both started to very slowly and carefully move backwards, praying that the ice holding us was strong enough to hold us until we got out of there. But just as we started to think we were safe, we heard a huge crack and the ground gave out underneath us. We both screamed as we fell. Two Worlds: Land of Ice Ch. 02 Author's Note: I decided to post this without editing so sorry for any mistakes! I just wanted to get it out quickly since I hadn't posted in awhile. I've started on chapter 3 already and hopefully will have it done soon. Don't forget to comment and vote! Vixen ~ Nathaniel Rutheford sighed as he put down the seemingly never ending paper work he had been going over and ran his fingers through his black wavy hair. He wished he could just hand it down to one of his Betas but unfortunately this was information he needed to know and decide on for his company and his pack. Leaning forward, he rested his head on his desk, trying to get rid of the headache he could feel coming on. The door opened about then and he looked up before his face broke into a huge smile. "You always know when I need you." He said to the beautiful long legged blonde who just entered the room. "What kind of mate would I be if I didn't?" She asked as she walked over and sat on his lap. He pulled her close and kissed her passionately, stealing both of their breaths away. His hands slipped up to grope her breasts firmly, causing her to moan lightly as she slid her fingers into his hair. He smirked into the kiss as he felt her nipples perk up and started to rub them through her shirt. She moved slightly to straddle him and ran her hands down his chest. When she got to the edge of his pants she unbuttoned them and pulled his shirt up and started to draw circles on his stomach. "Minx." He moaned before kissing down her neck and then latching onto her left nipple. He sucked it lightly as he slipped his hand under her skirt. He groaned as he was met with her skin and wetness and nothing else. She moaned before she suddenly found herself bent over the desk. He stroked her ass before spanking it lightly, causing her to squeal slightly. He then crouched down and looked at her beautiful wet lips, his mouth watering. She moaned loudly as she felt his rough, half transformed tongue lick along her lips "Fuck. You taste so good my mate." He moaned before attacking her cunt with a vengeance. He avoided her clit and lapped up all of her delicious juices, sliding his tongue into her a few times. She moaned loudly and bucked against him. "Please mate! I need you!" she moaned a few minutes later. Nate chuckled before standing up and sliding his pants down. He then slid his dick into her slowly, torturing them both and making them both moan. "Mine." He growled before starting to pump into her as she clawed at his desk. She moaned and whimpered and egged him on as he fucked her faster and harder. He started to feel his knot form and quickly slid it into her before it got too big. Just then there was a knock on the door and he growled loudly. "Unless you want to die I suggest you go away!" He yelled at the door. His pace stayed just as fast but his thrust grew shorter because of his knot. He leaned down and nibbled on his mate's neck as they both grew closer to mutual satisfaction. He reached down and rubbed her clit as he thrust into her harder. She cried out in a glorious orgasm as he bit into her neck, his slightly shifter teeth cutting into her skin. He growled as he tasted her blood before he howled as he joined her in bliss. He laid there panting for a moment before growling as someone knocked on the door again. "Someone obviously wants to die today." Rachel chuckled. "I'm sorry Alpha but it's important." He heard one of his betas say outside the door. He growled before sighing. "Give me ten minutes." He said to his beta before nuzzling his mate's neck. "Sorry love. Duty calls." "I know love. I have some things to attend to anyways." She sighed before stretching out. Nate slowly worked himself out of her before grabbing his pants and pulling them back on. Rachel pulled him close and kissed him passionately as she straightened his tie. "I'll see you tonight love." He dropped another quick kiss on her lips before heading out the door. He walked down the hall and into the security room where his betas were waiting for him. Only his betas and a few thetas that worked the computers were in the room. "Alright. What's so important?" He asked them. "It's a video that was sent by Alpha Richards. You definitely need to see this." Wesley, his second in command informed him. "Put it on the big screen." Nate turned to the screen as a news report of a fire started up. The whole forest seemed to be on fire around the mountain. "Is this Calif- oh my..." He started to ask before he saw a man run out of a cave followed by three other creatures. Everyone else in the room gasped slightly as they saw them as well. "Can you zoom in on them?" The image zoomed in on the three halfling creatures and the picture cleared a bit. He looked them over, noticing every detail and realizing exactly what they were. "Alpha Richards asked for a worldwide Alpha video conference in an hour Alpha." Dean, his third in command informed in while still gapping at the screen. Nate nodded, still examining the creatures on the screen and trying to absorb what this meant for their kind. "I'll be back in an hour. Don't speak to anyone else about this." He told his betas before going back to his office. He sat down at his desk and pulled out a notebook, writing down some questions he wanted to bring up during the conference. "Damn..." He muttered about twenty minutes later as he looked over his questions. "This isn't going to be easy..." He tried to work on a few other things and jot down questions when he could but mostly he just wanted to get to the conference. When there was only 15 minutes until the conference he decided to head back to the security room. "Anyone not a beta needs to leave the room now." He commanded to the room. Everyone immediately followed his order and he was left in the room with his five betas. "You all know the drill. Al, sign us in." Al nodded and then turned to the computer, quickly signing in to the conference. "Alphas." He said in greeting as the others began to appear on the screen. He looked around at all the faces as they all said their greetings. "It looks like all we are missing now are Collins and Francisco." Alpha Trenton pointed out. "Indeed. Hopefully they will join us soon, although I understand that Collins may be having a bit of trouble getting to a computer from where he is. So it is possible he will not be joining us." Alpha Richards informed them. "Bonjour." Came Alpha Francisco's voice as he finally signed in. "I have Alpha Collins on the phone." One of the other Alphas said. "Alright. Then we may begin. I have called this meeting to discuss the video I have sent to all of you and what we plan on doing about it. This video was taken in and was caught by a live news helicopter. The humans are beginning to panic about it and it will soon be national news if it isn't becoming so as we speak. Soon the world will know about these creatures and will want to do something about them. I have attempted to talk to the Governor of California but he has already sent a group of soldiers into the caves to round up the rest of the creatures. I don't doubt a blood bath gentlemen." Many of the Alphas began speaking or growling at this point, cutting off Richards' explanation. Nate growled and started pacing as his betas looked at all of the arguing Alphas a little nervously. "We must stop them from testing on them! We must save these creatures!" "Why? It would just cause problems for us and possibly force us to reveal ourselves. Let the humans have them." "Let the humans have them?!" Nate suddenly growled very loudly, turning to the screen with a ferocious look on his face. "Do you not know what they are, Anderson? Have you forgotten the stories?! Have you forgotten what are ancestors were?!!" Several of the Alphas on screen froze up as they realized what he meant but a few of the younger and newer Alphas looked confused. Nate sighed and ran his fingers through his hair before turning to Dean. "Go get me the Book of Luna." He told him. Dean nodded and then quickly ran out. "You can't be serious Rutheford. Those are just fairy tales." Anderson scoffed before yelping in pain as someone suddenly hit him in the back of the head. "Haven't I told you not to disrespect the tales of our ancestors' boy?" His father chastised him. Anderson growled slightly but then shut up and Nate tried not to feel immense pleasure in it. Dean finally came back in with the book and handed it to Nate, who quickly opened it to the right page. "In the beginning there were humans and wolves and Luna watched over them all." Nate began reading the page. "Si, si. We all know the story of how we became lobos. What is the point, senor Rutheford?" Alpha Rico interrupted. "I'll skip to the important parts then. The queen of the humans grew jealous of the wolves and the time they spent with Luna and began to hunt them down. She viewed the wolves as horrid and disgusting creatures and would lead the hunts and pile all the bodies to leave them to rot in Luna's eyes... Finally one night Luna could bear no more and descended from the Heavens to confront the queen... Luna realized the queen would not see sense and decided that she needed to be punished. She cursed her and all her children into a form between wolf and human, combining her with the creature she hated the most. The queen took one look at her reflection in the water and could not bear her appearance. She saw the beautiful silver fur covering her body as ugly. She saw the big bushy tail coming from her spine as a deformity. She saw the pointed ears on top of her head as disgusting. She looked at the claws at her fingers and toes and plunged into the sacred stream, never to be seen again." "I'll summarize the rest: One of the queen's descendents saw the beauty in the wolves and ran away to go run with them but they would not accept her because of her form. She had also fallen in love with a human but was rejected as well. She prayed to Luna for help for the first time in her life and in her bloodline since the queen. Luna granted her the ability to change back and forth between the two forms of human and wolf." "We all know how the story ends. We all know how we came to be. But what does that have to do with these creatures?" Anderson asked, sounding like he didn't truly care. His father hit him on the head again. "Did you not listen to the description of the creature the queen became boy? Read it again if you would, Alpha Rutheford while we all replay the video." Elder Anderson asked while nodding his head respectfully at the Alphas, even as he glared slightly at his son. "She saw the beautiful silver fur covering her body as ugly. She saw the bit bushy tale coming from her spine as a deformity. She saw the pointed ears on top of her head as disgusting. She looked at the claws on her fingers and toes and plunged into the sacred stream, never to be seen again." There were a few gasps as Nate read and the Alphas watched the video again. "How can this be?" Alpha Veal asked. "Even if no one truly believes in the old tales themselves, there is a bit of truth in them." One of Richards' Elders pointed out. "So these creatures are like our ancestors then? But then if they mate with humans they may become weres!" Anderson exclaimed. "Now do you see why it is so important not to leave them to the humans?" Richards asked. "What do we do about it though?" Nate asked. "I'll talk to the Governor about taking the creatures into my care. He sees me as a general and will hopefully hand them over. We will take them under our wing until they are able to take care of themselves in this world." "And what of the humans? They know of these creatures. They won't just let the issue go." Alpha Gerard pointed out. "What does this mean for our kind? In protecting them must we reveal ourselves?" Alpha Trenton asked worriedly, causing some of the others to look worried as well. "We will do everything we can to not do so but we shall discuss it if it becomes an issue. As soon as this becomes international news for the humans we will discuss this further. We must see how the humans react to this news. Perhaps they will surprise us and not call for brutality." All the Alphas nodded at Richards wisdom. "Until next time then. May Luna's light guide you." Richards concluded. "May Luna's light guide you." All the Alphas responded before signing off. "Al, keep an eye on the news feeds. Let me know how the humans react to this news and how they report it. Contact me the moment it becomes international news." Nate told his beta before sighing and rubbing his neck. "And as stated before, none of this leaves this room." He commanded. His betas nodded before going to work. Nate sighed again and then left the room, trying to remember what else he had to do today. He looked at the time and then sighed. "Fuck it." He mumbled before turning away from his office and heading down the hall. He walked down the stairs and out of the main house, heading towards one of the other buildings on the compound, not paying attention to the snow or the fact that he would be freezing his ass off if he was human. He smiled as he heard children's laughter as he got to the school room they had on the compound and walked a bit faster. He got there just in time for the kids to come running out. "Daddy!!!" Came his favorite two voices as they came running at him. He picked up his daughter and swung her around before picking up his son in his other arm, laughing happily. "And how are the two most amazing kids in the world today?" he asked with a huge smile. "Daddy, look at my painting!" Zachariah said while holding up a piece of colorful paper. "Wow! Look at that! Is that your mommy?" Nate asked, still slightly amazed at his five year old son's artistic abilities. "Yeah! You think she'll like it?" he looked at him hopefully and Nate chuckled. "I know she will." "Daddy I read a storybook all by myself today!" Liliana chirped happily. "Oh really? What was it about?" "It was about a puppy and how it was always last but then it was adopted and it was the first puppy!" "Hello Alpha." Maria called as she caught up to them. "I can take them back to the house if you wish." "It's alright Maria. I want some time with my kids today." He said with a smile as he looked at his kids. "Yay!" they both cheered happily. Both Maria and Nate chuckled before he lead his kids off back to his house. "Can we play in the snow?" "Can we go for a run?" "Can we have some mac and cheese?" "Can we paint more?" Nate laughed as his kids fired off questions as they got to the front porch of their house. "How about we start off with any homework you have?" He said sternly. The kids pouted but agreed. They didn't have much to do and it went by quickly since Nate was helping them. After only about a half hour they were done and dashed outside, stripping off clothes as they went. Nate followed them and watched as they jumped off the front porch and shifted mid jump. They started wrestling around as wolf pups and then chased each other around as Nate stripped off his clothes. "Alright, here I come!" He said before jumping off the porch and changing. The kids yipped and then ran off, Nate on their tale. They chased each other around in the snow, yipping playfully and soon others from the compound joined them. The kids started chasing and playing with some of the other kids and Nate sat down to watch them. Hello love. His mate said as she rubbed up against him. Thought you had work to do? Already finished it love. Although I know you didn't finish yours. I'll do it in the morning. But for now... Nate got up and nipped at her hindquarters playfully. You better run love. He growled lightly in a smoldering tone. Rachael yipped back playfully, shaking her tail at him before running off. 5... 4... 3... 2... 1. Here I come love! ~ My eyes slowly opened up and I tried to keep my head from spinning as I saw nothing but darkness. It took me awhile to register the cold and the fact that I was buried in snow. I groaned lightly as I sat up a bit and started to unbury myself and feel around for Riz or one of the flashlights. I finally felt one of the flashlight and quickly grabbed it and turned it on. I looked around and finally found Riz. "Riz!" I crawled over to her and started to unbury her. She groaned and then cried out as she started to wake up. "Hold still for a minute." When I finally removed the snow off of her I went to help her up but she fell right back down as she cried out in pain. "I think I twisted my ankle..." she whimpered. I bit back a curse as I shivered and looked around to see if there was something around to help me get her out of here. I looked up then and did curse as I saw just how far we had fallen. "There is no way we are getting out of here without rope or something..." I sighed. "What?! You mean we are trapped here?" Riz asked frantically. "Unless there is another way out of here..." I started to look around me more, shining the light down the dark paths she could see. "It looks like there could be a few tunnels but it might be smarter if we stay put. Your parents will notice we are gone in the morning and might come looking for us. If the snow doesn't cover up the hole they should be able to find it and help us out of here." I continued looking around and really hoped that what I was saying would be reality. I was doing my best not to show it but I was panicking a bit inside. "Mina..." Riz suddenly whispered. "Yeah Riz?" I was shining my light down what looked like a tunnel and then started to look around, walking in a circle around her. "Mina..." she whispered in a higher tone. "What?" I asked, finally looking at her. She was looking behind me with wide fearful eyes and then she pointed, her hand shaking and I had a feeling that it wasn't just because of the cold. I turned around slowly and was met with a wall of white fur. My view followed it up before I dropped the flashlight and suddenly everything went dark. Two Worlds: Land of Ice Ch. 03 Hello everyone! So even though this isn't actually the end of the story it might be the last chapter I post. I haven't started the next chapter at all because honestly I don't entirely have the motivation to do so for multiple reasons. Mainly it's because people don't seem to be liking the direction it's going and this originally was just supposed to be a three chapter story, not a multiple part story... So basically I'm kind of giving up on this one for now and working on other ones that people might enjoy and that I am more passionate about. But enjoy this chapter and let me know what you think and I will try to post some of my other stories soon. I already have three chapters in one so hopefully I can post it soon. I'm hoping to find an editor first though. ~Vixen * Riz started to scream hysterically as I scrambled back quickly, more startled than scared, but definitely scared. I heard the thing move and then suddenly the flashlight was turned back on and the creature was moving it around, as if looking at it curiously. Suddenly the light went to its face and what I had thought I had seen was proven to be real and I gasped. It had a human face! It looked completely like a polar bear but the face was obviously human. I looked up at it in awe and still a bit of fear before Riz screamed again. I turned back to her and then covered her mouth. "Riz. Calm down. I don't think it will hurt us." I whispered to her. She panicked for a bit more before freezing up as the creature came towards us. He got closer and then sniffed at us before grumbling disappointedly. Disappointedly? As if it was human? It does have a human face... I thought to myself as I watched it get a bit closer. It looked us over and then looked at the flashlight again before grunting and then standing up completely. I looked at it with wide eyes as I realized it had to be at least 7 feet tall. Riz tried to scream past my hand and mitt as she started to struggle again but I held her still. The creature looked as if it was trying to think of something and then suddenly looked at me with completely black but human shaped eyes. "Human?" I gasped as it spoke and then nodded a bit stiffly, completely shocked. He grunted again and nodded back before sniffing at us again. He sniffed at Riz, who froze up again before looking at me. "Sky?" I nodded again and he smiled before handing me the flashlight and then motioning with what looked like a combination of a paw and hand. I realized after a moment that it wanted us to follow him. Follow it and possibly get eaten or stay here and freeze to death? I thought before standing up and helping Riz up. Riz whimpered from fear and the pain in her ankle as I threw her arm around me to try and help her. I dwarfed her of course so it didn't work so well. The creature snorted and then came over to us. Riz screamed as it suddenly picked her up and put it on its back. I chuckled slightly and then started to follow the creature as it lead us down a tunnel. I followed it for quite awhile and made sure Riz didn't panic as she clung on to it tightly. I also had to make sure I didn't slip on the ice and snow, but my legendary klutziness kicked in and I fell at least twenty times. I started to watch my feet more and more and so almost missed when we suddenly walked into an ice cavern at least 20 minutes later. I gasped through chattering teeth when I finally looked up and saw several beautiful igloo like structures in a semicircle around one big one. There were furs blocking the doors of the igloos and each was painted with a different symbol in red. We headed for the big igloo in the center and I wondered what we would find inside. The creature pulled the fur aside for me and I stepped in, gasping again at the sight. There were several of the creatures sitting along the edge of the room with two of them on what looked like thrones on the far side. The creature on the right looked taller and bulkier than the one of the left and I realized that the bigger one was male while the smaller was female. The male had a crown make of bone and teeth or claws on his head and the female had a circlet of fur on her head. I also realized that she had long white hair running all the way down to her knees. I turned to the one that had brought us here and realized that he must be male then. "Mina?" I heard a familiar voice ask. Suddenly a much smaller figure covered in white fur came up to me. She lowered the hood of what she was wearing and Riz gasped. "Sky?! What the hell?" she asked as she was sat down by the male who had brought us in. "Hey sis." Sky greeted sheepishly, her hand around her stomach. Suddenly something clicked and I dived my hand into the fur of the jacket like thing she was wearing. I was met with warm skin and the slightly bump I had been looking for. I stared at her in wonder as I realized exactly what it meant. "That's why you reacted so badly when we saw the news..." I whispered as I saw tears come to her eyes. She nodded and looked around. "I can't let them be hurt that way... I can't let my baby be hurt that way..." she responded in a weak voice. "Your what?" Riz stared at her in shock from the ground where she was sitting. "My baby, Riz." She said before pulling up the jacket she was wearing and showing the small baby bump. Riz stared at her in complete shock and horror. "You mean that you had... With one of these... Things?!" Riz exclaimed, sounding disgusted. I looked at her, slightly shocked at her tone. I was about to say something when someone came in and I looked up to see another one of the males in the doorway. Suddenly he looked at me, his whole face lit up and I found myself on the ground with him on top of me. I gasped lightly as he ran his nose along my neck before shivering as he nuzzled me. "Refre." I heard Sky giggle as the male above me grumbled and started to speak to her in a weird language. I heard my name mentioned and then he looked at me with a smile. "Mina." He sighed softly, making me blush. Finally he stood up and then offered me his hand. I looked at it for a moment, noticing that the back was covered in the white fur and then the palm and fingers were completely human with black claws at the end of them. Finally I took the offered hand and let him help me up. "Mina? This is Refre. He is one of the tribe's strongest hunters." Sky introduced us while I was still blushing slightly. I had a feeling that there was something going on here but I wasn't sure what. Another male came over at that point and wrapped his arms around Sky, making her look tiny. It made me wonder how I looked to these enormous creatures. I suddenly was very aware of how small I really am. "Mina, Riz. This is Faraf. He is my mate. Or as you would call him, my husband." She said while looking up at him happily. "You're married?!" Riz practically shouted. I realized that her ankle was still hurt and turned to Sky. "She might be able to absorb this better if her ankle was taken care of. I think she twisted it when we fell." I told Sky. Sky nodded and then turned to look at the two who were sitting patiently in the thrones. She bowed respectfully to them before beginning to speak with them in their language. It sounded like she introduced us and then asked about taking care of Riz. The female said something about me that made Sky laugh and I blushed brightly as I realized that Refre was right behind me and they were probably laughing at how tiny I looked compared to him. I must look like a child to them... I thought, biting my lip a bit. I quickly let go of my lip as my teeth started to chatter a bit and then felt a heavy weight on me. I looked up and realized that Refre had put one of the jacket like things on me. I smiled shyly and he smiled back before his name was called and he went up to talk to what I assumed was like the queen and king of this tribe. I cuddled into what I realized was more like a cloak and sighed happily at how warm it was. "Mina?" Riz whispered, pulling my attention from everything going on around me. I knelt down beside her while looking at Refre and motioning at the cloak, hoping he would get that I wanted one for her. He tilted his head before nodding and turning to a few of the other polar bear men sitting around. "I don't want to be here Mina... We should leave..." Riz whispered when I turned back to her. "Please? I don't like it here..." "We can't go anywhere with how your ankle is Riz. I mean I wouldn't mind going back to the house and getting warm but you know you can't walk right now..." I pointed out softly. I thought back to our plans about going back to California at that point and really missed the heat. Even with the huge cloak on I was still pretty cold and I missed being able to run around in a tank top and shorts. "As soon as my ankle gets better I want to leave." Riz stated. "Alright. We can do that." I agreed. "And we are taking Sky with us." She added firmly. I blinked at her in surprise before noticing that Refre was right beside me. I smiled shyly as I took the cloak from him and put it on Riz. "I think Sky wants to stay here. She seems very happy." I noted before the very person we were talking about came up to us. "Hey sis. This is Ero. He is like the tribe's doctor. He will take care of your ankle." She smiled brightly at her before moving to let the doctor do what he needed. I moved with her so I wasn't in the way either. "How far along are you?" I asked her. "About 6 months. I only really started showing a few weeks ago thankfully. I've been hiding it with all the baggy clothes I wear ever since. I wasn't sure how to tell everyone. I didn't think any of them would believe me and would just think I got knocked up by some random guy. Not the love of my life." She smiled at the last part, looking back at Faraf. "How are you so sure? I mean you are only 18. And you can't have known him very long... Unless you found this place when you first moved here." "No. I found it about a year and a half ago. And I know because he is my mate. It's hard to explain. Basically... He's my soul mate." She smiled back at Faraf then and he came over and hugged her to him. I looked at the look of love that passed between them and felt jealous for a moment. I jumped slightly as I noticed that Refre was right beside me again. "And it looks like you've been claimed as well." Sky giggled as she looked at the two of us. "What?" I asked, confused before looking up at Refre and realizing that he was giving me the same look that Faraf had been giving her. I blushed brightly before looking back at Sky, wanting an explanation. "I'll explain everything later. The King and Queen welcome you by the way." Sky informed me, a bit formally. I looked towards the King and Queen and bowed slightly to them. They nodded back, giving me a friendly smile. "Tell them thank you for me. Also if they could all start ducking down, that would make me feel much more comfortable." I giggled and she joined in. "It definitely takes some getting used to." "At least you are almost 6 feet tall! I'm stuck at my 5'3" height! I must look like a child to them." I muttered. I blinked as Sky suddenly hugged me. "Don't worry Mina. You definitely look like a woman to them. I mean you've got amazing curves." Sky giggled slightly before looking back at Refre and then winking at me. I blushed brightly and looked back at him as well, blushing even more when he smiled at me. "Ow!" Riz cried out, interrupting any response I could even think to come up with. I looked over as I saw the doctor start to wrap her ankle and foot up in some sort of cloth. "Will she be okay?" I bit my lip, looking at Sky. She turned and started to talk with the doctor in their language before turning back to me. "It's badly sprained but thankfully nothing seems broken. She will just have to hang around for a few weeks." She relayed back to me. "A few weeks?!!" Riz screamed. "What do you mean a few weeks?! I cannot stay here that long!" "Sis, calm down. It's not as bad as you think." Sky soothed her. Riz glared at her slightly before looking at me. "Do you want to stay here a few weeks? We could always make something to drag me out of here. I'm sure we can find an easier way." I bit my lip at this, looking back at Refre and everything else. It was honestly really interesting to me and I was sure that the outside world could wait a bit. "And besides, what would mom and dad say? What are they going to do when they find we aren't at home?" she added, which made me sigh as she pointed out the one hiccup. They would definitely be starting to wake up soon and then they would find that we aren't there anymore. What would they do when they found the car in the garage? Would they start a search party? "She's right. They might send out a search party then and it will be as bad as it was with the nekos. We all need to get back." I pointed out sadly. Sky looked sad and anxious and looked back at Faraf who quickly wrapped his arms around her. I suddenly felt a clawed hand touch my arm gently and looked up to see Refre looking at me worriedly. I smiled sadly at him, wondering why he seemed so attached and why I didn't mind it too much. I looked back at Sky, who was talking quietly with her "mate" before looking back at me. "They can bring us through the easiest route and help get us out of the caves but then we are on our own once we reach the surface. And it might take at least half an hour before we get there." I nodded at this before looking at Riz. "Think you can handle that?" "Yeah. Anything to get back home." I nodded at her reply, wanting to get back to the warmth as well. "They need a few minutes to pack up but then we can go." Sky informed us as Faraf went off with a few of the other males. "Sky?" I whispered. "Yes?" "What about you? I can see you want to stay here and that baby bump isn't going to be too easy to hide soon..." I pointed out gently. "I'm going to stay a few more weeks before telling my mom I'm moving out. I don't know if I will tell her anything else yet... I'm scared she will react badly." she admitted weakly. I pulled her into a hug and rubbed her back. "Let's see how things go. We won't talk about any of this unless you decide you want to. Alright Riz?" I turned my gaze to Riz, who was looking rather cross. "What?" "We won't talk about any of this unless Sky decides she wants to tell everyone else, alright?" "Whatever," was her short reply. I sighed before turning back to Sky. "Can we help them prepare in any way?" I asked her. "I think they got everything covered..." she muttered, looking a little worried as she looked at the door. "I'm sure they will be ready very quickly. You are going to have to be on one of their backs Riz. Are you okay with that?" "Yeah sure. It's fine." Came her short reply. I sighed, hoping that Riz wasn't going to cause issues like she sometimes does when she isn't happy or not getting what she wants. We waited a few minutes while Riz pouted slightly, Sky talked to some of the polar bear people and I just watched. I noticed the polar bear women looking at me and started to feel very uncomfortable. They are probably thinking how small and tiny and insignificant I look. I thought as I saw Sky go over to them. She started to giggle slightly before looking at me. "Quit looking so uncomfortable. They are just talking about how pretty your hair is. They have never seen hair like yours. The color and shape is just so different. They are fascinated by it." She assured me with a smile. I pulled down a lock of my black spiral curled hair and then looked at all of their beautiful straight white hair that blended in with their fur. "Oh. I guess I didn't think of that." I shrugged. "They are wondering if they could touch it." I blushed at that slightly before nodding and stepping closer. They all smiled and reached out excitedly to touch my hair. They started chatting away about it, making me blush as they fawned over it. "Ra says it's incredible and Fay says your family must be very proud to have such a beautiful daughter." Sky translated with a smile. I smiled back and realized just how much she had blossomed here. She had become such a wonderful young woman. "I always forget how you are only a year younger than me." I chuckled slightly. One of the males came back in at that point and called out to Sky. "Alright. Time to go. Sis? Oro will be carrying you, okay? He is the one who brought you both here." "Fine. Let's just go." Riz grumbled. Sleep. Sleep will make her less grumpy. I noted before yawning as Oro picked up Riz and we headed outside. Sleep would be very nice. As would a fire. "Also Refre offered to carry you if you want Mina." I blushed at that but realized it might make things a bit quicker. "Well I guess if he offered..." I started to say before squealing as I was suddenly picked up. "Hey! Some warning would be nice next time!" I yelled slightly at Refre as I was put on his back. Sky laughed and Refre just grumbled slightly before starting off. I kept my arms wrapped around his neck and shoulders while clinging to him with my legs as well. It was a bit difficult but we were definitely moving faster than if I had been walking. Within about a minute we were out of the cavern. Faraf soon caught up to Refre and I smiled at Sky since she was on his back. She was definitely staying on a little easier than I was and I chuckled slightly. "Do this often?" I called out. I thought I heard her chuckle but it was a little hard to really hear her. After a bit more time through the tunnels we started to slow down and I looked at Sky to ask her why. She shook her head before I could even say anything and put her finger to her lips. I closed my mouth and just stayed clinging to Refre. All the polar bear men were obviously on guard and I wondered just what would scare them. We passed a few other tunnels as I tried to keep my teeth from chattering loudly. "Why are we going so slow?" Riz broke the silence, sounding a lot louder since there had been no other noise. Sky quickly shushed her as the men grew a bit tenser, their eyes darting around quickly. There was a very loud growl coming from one of the other tunnels and the men bolted. I clung on tightly as they ran as fast as they could away from that growl. "What was that?" Riz called out a little breathlessly since she was also clinging tightly and it probably wasn't helping her ankle. "Rival tribe. They have been at war with each other as long as they can remember." Sky called back. We ran like that for a several more minutes before we started to slow down again. There was a steep tunnel up ahead and the men carrying us started to head up it but the other three men stayed put at the bottom. We heard snarls and growls before we were met with even colder air. The men stopped and Sky slowly slipped down and Refre loosened his hold on me so I slipped down as well. "Will they be okay?" I asked through chattering teeth. Sky looked worriedly up at Faraf and I saw a heartbreaking look of love pass through them. She whispered to him a few words before kissing him lovingly. I looked away, letting them have their moment as I went to help Riz. Refre hovered over me slightly as I offered my hand to pull Riz up. "Let's hurry this up. I'm freezing." Riz complained a bit loudly. "Alright. Sky?" I called out, hating to interrupt their moment. I turned and waved goodbye to Refre, who looked at me longingly, making me blush slightly. Sky will explain this to me hopefully... I thought before said person came over and took Riz's other arm to help her along. Two Worlds: Land of Ice Ch. 03 "Okay. This way." She instructed before heading off in the direction she pointed. I looked back as I saw the men go back into the cave, hoping that they wouldn't get hurt. We walked for a long time, practically dragging Riz as we went. It took a long time with how small I am and how cold it was. The ice and snow didn't help and I was grateful that I didn't fall at some point. Finally after what seemed like hours we got to the front door and quickly got inside. "What do we tell mom?" Sky asked worriedly as we set Riz down on the couch. I bit my lip and quickly thought of something. "Well you snuck out to get some air and we thought you were up to something so followed you and when we caught up to you Riz slipped on some ice and twisted her ankle." I stated simply. I pushed back the hood of the fur cloak I was wearing and then quickly pulled it off. "Right. We should probably hide these." I said before taking Riz and Sky's and quickly running into Riz's room to shove them into my suitcases. I came back out and Sky was helping Riz put her foot up. "I'll go wake up Momsy and Dave. I'll explain everything. I am the best at the theater after all." I added the last part dramatically and in a slight British accent. "So we are lying to them then?" Riz grumbled. "Well it isn't entirely a lie sis..." Sky pointed out softly. "We are just leaving out the part about the tribe. Just to protect them, alright?" I got a stiff nod of agreement and sighed. "I'll be right back." I took a deep breath to collect myself before running off to Momsy and Dave's room. "Momsy! Dave! Hurry! Riz is hurt!" I cried out frantically as I knocked on their door loudly. I heard a bunch of rustling around and a thudding sound before the door was quickly opened by Momsy. "What happen? How is she hurt?" She asked, slightly panicked. "I think she might have broke her ankle or something!" I replied, quickly pulling her into the living room. "How did that happen? Why are you all dressed in your snow gear?" she questioned before seeing Riz and going to her quickly. "Where does it hurt dear?" "Everywhere." Riz groaned. Momsy gently took off her boot, causing Riz to whimper in pain. "What happened?" Dave asked as he came into the room. "It's my fault daddy..." Sky answered softly, cutting off my response. She was looking down at the floor but when she looked up she had tears in her eyes. "I-I went outside f-for some fresh air and... and they followed me..." "We caught up to her but then Riz slipped and twisted her ankle." I finished for her, biting my lip slightly. "You should know better than to go out in even a small storm like this Sky! We've lived here for five years now, you should know that!" Dave scolded her. "I'm sorry daddy..." Sky started to cry slightly and I pulled her into a hug. Dave sighed and then joined into the hug. "It's alright sweety. Just be more careful. And no more midnight walks, alright?" she bit her lip at that but then gave a hesitant nod. "It doesn't feel broken but we should take her to the hospital Dave." Momsy notified us. "Just in case." "Alright. I'll go get the car warmed up." He agreed before going out to the garage. I started to pull off my warm clothes at that point, starting to get over heated and wanting to stay here. I hoped to get a moment alone with Sky to talk to her more about the tribe. "Can you get an icepack for me Sky?" Momsy called. Sky ran into the kitchen and came back quickly. A few minutes later Dave came back in and started to put his warmer clothes on. "It's freezing out there but I got the car warmed up." He told Momsy as he came over to pick up Riz. "Okay. You kids be good. We will be back as soon as we can." She told us as she grabbed her purse and followed Dave out to the garage. "Okay. Bye." I called back as the garage door shut and a few moments later I heard them pull out. I turned to Sky then and saw her biting her lip. "It wasn't really your fault Sky." I soothed her, pulling her into a hug. "You were following me though..." she whispered weakly. "Sky you didn't know what would happen, okay? Don't blame yourself." "What... What did happen anyways?" "Yes. What did happen?" came another voice. I turned my head and held back a curse as I saw Tristan standing in the doorway. Two Worlds: Land of Ice Ch. 04 Hey guys. So I've decided to finish this of course. Just to let you guys know, usually when I say I'm giving up on something I tend to get inspiration for it or am just too damn stubborn to actually do so. I got inspiration for this of course only about a week after deciding to give on this story. So here's the next chapter! If I say I'm going to give up like that again, just check back two or so months after and I'll probably have the next chapter up. Sorry to leave you guys hanging like that! Also, I didn't edit this so sorry for mistakes! I finished it and then just wanted to get it up as quickly as possible. Hopefully there aren't too many mistakes. Don't forget to comment and vote! ~Vixen Nate woke up slowly the next morning and opened his eyes to see a head full of curly blond hair lying on his chest. He chuckled as he looked over and saw that Rachel was in a similar situation. He stroked Liliana's hair for a few minutes before noticing the time and sighing. He felt Liliana stir a moment later and smiled as she rubbed her eyes and looked up at him. "Morning Daddy." She mumbled sleepily. Nate chuckled before carefully getting up and carrying her downstairs. "How does waffles and bacon sound?" He asked as he sat her down on the counter. Her face lit up a bit at that and she nodded happily. Nate grabbed everything he needed and got to work, Liliana helping where she could. After a few minutes he felt arms wrap around his leg and smiled down at his soft stepped son. "Mommy still asleep?" He asked. Zachariah nodded while continuing to cling to his leg. Nate smiled and moved over to make some coffee for his mate. By the time the bacon and coffee was done, Rachel finally came downstairs. Nate automatically handed her a cup of coffee, knowing that she never fully woke up until she had one. He then sat plates of waffles and bacon in front of each of them before filling up his own plate. The kids themselves eat about the amount of a full grown human male and Nate and Rachel eat about twice as much. The pack went through a lot of food in a week. "Eat up!" Nate told the kids with a smile. They smiled back and then dug into their food. Rachel started to wake up better and seemed to realize there was food in front of her. Nate chuckled as she finally started to eat and then dug into his own food. After they finished eating Nate helped the little ones get dressed as Rachel showered and got dressed as well. Nate helped them make their own snacks before Rachel came down, dressed in her work clothes and carrying a travel bag. "How long will you be gone?" Nate asked, wishing she could stay and not have to deal with this outside business. "Only two nights and then I'll be back." She sighed before setting down the bag and wrapping her arms around his waist. Nate pulled her close, holding her tightly against him. "I wish you didn't have to go." He whispered. "I know love. But you know I have to. I'm running our business ventured this cycle, you know that." "Yeah, yeah. Still wish you didn't have to go." Nate sighed before kissing her passionately. She moaned lightly and the kiss grew more heated before there was suddenly a giggle that broke them apart. Nate looked over to see the kids peeking around the doorway with their backpacks on and covering their mouths to hide their giggles. "Alright you two. Let's get going!" Rachel called to them before kissing Nate's cheek and then picking up her bag. The kids ran over and hugged Nate before hugging Rachel and following her out the door. Nate waved goodbye to them before going to go take a shower and getting ready himself. Once he stepped out of the shower he heard his doorbell ring and sighed. He wrapped a towel around himself and headed out to the door. "Yes?" He asked as he opened the door to find Al standing there. "It's gone national and there's something else you need to see." He reported. Nate sighed and ran his fingers through his messy chestnut locks. "Alright. I'll be there in a minute." He said before shutting the door and going to get dressed in jeans and a t-shirt. He stepped out into the cold, not even bothering with shoes as he walked across the snow into the main building. He nodded to all his pack members as he went by before entering the security room. He found that his betas had already made everyone else leave so he turned to the screen. "Go ahead." He told them. Someone pushed play and an international news report came on. It had been a few days since he had received the first video and wasn't very surprised that it became international already. It just showed the same report as before and then did a report about it. "Alright. That wasn't too bad." Nate said as he ran his fingers through his hair. "That's not all. This is what you really need to see." Wesley told him tensely before turning on another video. Nate turned and looked at it before staring at it in shock. "Alpha Richards requested another conference in about an hour." Wesley said, breaking him out of his shock. Nate nodded before turning to leave. "I'll be back." He managed to say before he was out of the room. He went and sat down in his office, trying not to feel sick over what he just saw. He tried to concentrate on other work but of course had a hard time doing so. He couldn't stop seeing the look of pain and fear on so many of the cat halflings' faces. The thought that human beings had done that sickened him and made him wonder how accepting they will be if they revealed themselves. He ended up pacing, his thoughts in turmoil for about a 45 minutes before heading back to the security room. "Let's get this going." He commanded when he entered the room. He sighed and ran his fingers through his hair again as Al started up the video conference. "Alphas." Nate greeted again as they started to appear on the screen. "I'll wait five more minutes." Alpha Richards said when a few of the Alphas hadn't appeared yet. Finally all the Alphas that could be there were signed in and Richards cleared his throat to get everyone's attention. "First off I have good news," he beamed, glancing at his mate, who was in the room this time. "My mate is finally pregnant!" The rest of the Alphas congratulated him, many of them cheering. Nate smiled happily, knowing that this was definitely a good omen since Richards and his mate had been trying for pups for a few years now. "Thank you! Thank you! Now on to business. I know you have all seen that leaked video by now and I want to let you know that I now have the situation under control. I have convinced the Governor to let me take in the halflings. However I will need a little help with it. After the recent coup against me I have lost several of my betas and thetas and currently don't have enough to help with security while moving them." "I'll volunteer some of mine and even help personally if you need it." Nate offered almost right away. A few of the other Alphas from the North American packs offered some of their betas and thetas as well. "Thank you Alphas. I'll be moving them to the compound and hopefully will be able to find the woman who was with them. She seemed to know their language and I want to make this as comfortable of a transition as possible for the halflings. Their last transition was already full of pain. I don't want to cause them any more harm." Richard informed them as most of the other Alphas nodded in agreement. "Now has anyone been able to talk to their governments about this yet?" The conversation turned political and continued for another hour. Most people revealed that their governments were rather torn about what to do about the current situation. It was something on everyone's mind however and most people were going towards the side of assimilating the halflings. Finally the conversation drew to a close and everyone signed off except Richards and Nate. "Do you want me to come down to help?" Nate asked him. Richards had been like a father figure to Nate and he worried about him, especially with the recent coup. "Honestly boy it would be a huge help. I'm stretched thin at the moment with everything else happening." Richards admitted, seeming to deflate a bit. Nate knew how hard it was for the elder Alpha to accept his help and was glad he was going to. "We will be there tomorrow afternoon then." Nate responded with a nod. "Alright. May Luna's light guide you." Richards concluded before the screen went blank. "Al, Jereth, you're with me. The rest of you will stay here and watch over the pack. Call the Thetas and ask who would be willing to come with me. I need at least ten of them." Nate instructed. They all nodded and got to work on calling the Thetas. In the end 15 of the 45 Theta's offered to go with them to California while the others were to stay and protect the pack. They had a meeting to brief the 15 of them and then started to arrange who was to deal with what preparations. "Alright. Everyone sleep well tonight. See you early in the morning." Nate finally dismissed them after he felt that they covered everything they needed to. He watched them leave before following them out. He sighed as he sat down at his desk and remembered all the work he had put off yesterday. "Better get to it now." He mumbled to himself, picking up the paperwork where he had left off. This is going to be a long day... ~ "Bye Mom! Bye Dad! Bye Riz! We'll be back before dinner!" Sky called as we walked out the garage door with Tristan right behind us. I slid into the back seat behind him while Sky got into the front seat. "How far should we drive out before doubling back?" he asked once he started to head out of the garage. "Drive half way to town. There's a road we can take that will lead us closer to the caves. It will still be a bit of a walk." Sky responded. Tristan nodded before concentrating on the road. "How have you and Becky been doing?" I asked Tristan, trying to break the silence. "Fine. We finally found a place to live together. Hopefully the wedding will be next year." He responded with a slight smile. I smiled as well before poking at him. "I haven't met her yet, by the way." He chuckled at that, shaking his head. "I'll introduce you to her soon. But guys, she can't know about this, okay?" We nodded in response and the rest of the drive was in silence. After Momsy, Dave and Riz had left Tristan had heard me and Sky talking and realized that what we had told Momsy and Dave had been a lie. He demanded to know what really happened and we had to tell him. I tried to act like nothing happened but that meant lying to him and I couldn't do it. He also saw right through us when we tried to give as little detail as possible so we ended up telling him everything. At first he didn't believe a single word of it but he could see in our faces that we were being sincere. He still didn't entirely believe us so demanded that we take him to see the village. Momsy and Dave got back later that day and Riz had stayed in bed and been rather quiet since. I had tried to talk to her about everything but she didn't seem to want to talk much. Her ankle ended up having a slight fracture and so she couldn't walk on it for awhile. It meant she couldn't do anything, include going to the village with us but honestly it didn't seem like she wanted to. I had wanted to be a good friend and stay with her as well but I couldn't stop thinking about it. Finally she just snapped at me about it and told me to just go since I wanted to so badly. I felt bad but it gave Sky and Tristan a reason to go out for awhile. We told Momsy and Dave that we were going into town so that they could show me around. We finally got to the road Sky had been talking about and turned down it. Sky suddenly winced slightly and Tristan glanced at her worriedly. "We should really have a doctor check you out, Sis..." He said worriedly. "No. I can't risk it. I don't want them to end up like the necos or whatever they are calling them now. Did you know they are being transferred to a secret location for 'protection?' It's probably some lab where they can better test on them!" Sky looked close to tears at this and I reached forward to touch her shoulder. "We won't let them end up like that, okay? Tristan is just worried about you and the baby is all." I explained gently. Sky nodded and then motioned at the road for us to pull over. We parked along the side of the road and got out. I shivered a bit, glad I had listened to Sky and brought the fur that Refre gave me. I wrapped it around me, Sky and Tristan following my lead, Tristan wearing the one that Riz had been wearing. "Which way?" Tristan asked. Sky started to walk the right way and we both followed her. It was mostly quiet as we walked, none of us really knowing what to say. After awhile we came to cave that Sky had been using before Riz and I crashed through the ice. There was a rope that she had secured to the ice with this hook thing that looked like the things they used when climbing the ice on high mountains. "That's where my climbing gear went then." Tristan chuckled slightly. "Yeah. Sorry about that." Sky shrugged before grabbing the rope. "Maybe I should go first." Tristan stated before gently taking the rope from Sky. She sighed but let him go first. He slid down into the hole and we watched until we couldn't see him anymore. After a moment he called up and Sky started down. I watched her until I was sure she was safe, amazed at how well she had climbed down. "You've gotten strong," I heard Tristan say. As soon as I was sure she was at the bottom I started climbing down as well. "Let's go," Sky said when I was finally standing beside her and we each had flashlights. She started to lead the way, moving through the tunnels that started to head down. As we went through I was very thankful that we had Sky to lead the way because I would have gotten lost navigating all the tunnels. Finally we came out into the cavern were the village was and we both smiled when we heard Tristan gasp. "Wow." We laughed slightly at that before heading for the igloos. We were barely half way there when Faraf suddenly peaked out from one of the igloos. He cried out excitedly before running over towards us and picking up Sky to hold her close. I smiled before looking back at Tristan and almost falling over laughing. He had stopped a little ways behind us and was standing there, mouth gaping, eyes wide and completely frozen in place. "Believe us now?" I asked him with a slight smile. It seemed to snap him out of his shock and he blinked before looking at me and nodding. "This... Is insane... I honestly... I don't... Give me a moment." Tristan struggled out before walking a little ways away and pacing a bit. It looked like he was having a bit of a freak out and I considered telling him that if he couldn't handle it then we could just go home. However at that moment I heard a slight call and saw some of the men coming back towards the village, Refre in the lead. He came running right to me and like the first time we met, knocked me right over. I giggled slightly as he stuck his cold nose to my throat, sighing happily at my scent. "Hello Refre," I greeted in his language, which Sky had been teaching me a bit since that fateful day. He smiled and greeted me back before standing up and pulling me up to hug me. I sighed softly, soaking in the warmth of his body and fur. I smiled as I heard him chuckled and then pull away. I looked up and saw that he was looking behind me suspiciously and turned to see Tristan had calmed down a bit. "He is Sky's brother," I did my best to explain. He continued to look him over before Tristan noticed him staring and looked a little awkward and a bit scared. He hesitantly waved at Refre before putting his hands in his pocket. I sighed before going over to him and pulling him over. "Tristan. This is Refre. My mate." I smiled brightly as I introduced them, glad that I understood now why I felt the way I did towards Refre. Tristan looked unsure for a moment before Refre smiled and offered his hand. Tristan smiled and took his hand, shaking it. I sighed happily at that, seeing the acceptance in his eyes. "Just like people in big fur suits I guess," He commented with a shrug. I laughed slightly before looking up at Refre and seeing that he was looking at me with love. I turned as I heard Tristan laughing slightly. "You really are Mini here, aren't you Mina?" He teased. I glared at him as he almost fell over at the almost 2 foot difference between me and Refre. I almost yelled at him but at that moment another one of the males came out and started to talk to Faraf and Sky and Sky motioned for us. "What's up?" I asked her when I was by them. "Come on Tristan. They don't bite, I swear." Sky said as she looked behind me with a knowing smile. Tristan had stayed back and blinked in surprise before coming over to us. "I want you to meet someone but you'll have to come with me." She told him while grabbing his hand and dragging him along. I smiled as I followed having a feeling I knew what was going on. The non-mated females always stayed inside or hidden from view until they were mated because of superstition and tradition. When they are declared old enough to mate their scent was passed among the unmated males to see if any of them were meant to mate the female. Only females or males of the family were allowed to see the female until she had a mate. "Someone caught his scent, didn't they?" Sky gave me a smile in answer before we came to one of the igloos and she asked to enter. She dragged Tristan through the door, with him looking a little frightened. He had listened in a bit when Sky had been explaining things about the culture of the Bears and I think he was starting to realize what was going on. I followed them in, not entirely sure of what would happen but hoping that Tristan would be able to deal with it. We got in and one of the village women was sitting on the ground with her parents behind her. She looked at Tristan as he walked in as if he was the only person in the room. Tristan stopped a little ways in and I was afraid that he was going to freak out and run out until I saw Sky looking like she was trying to hold back laughter. I moved so I could see Tristan's face and had to hold back as well. He was looking at the woman with awe and amazement. He honestly looked thunderstruck and I was starting to think I would have to hit him in order for him to snap out of it. But then the girl giggled and Tristan suddenly smiled a very content and peaceful smile. "Hello." He said softly, trying to speak in their language. Apparently he had been paying attention when Sky was teaching me. The woman smiled and her parents introduced her as Eha before inviting us to stay for lunch. "You know what this means, don't you?" Sky inquired of her brother as we all sat down to eat with them. Tristan stayed quiet for a moment before looking at Sky. "Yes... It means I'm going to have to break off the engagement to Becky." Two Worlds: Land of Ice Ch. 05 Happy New Years! I finished this chapter a little while ago and decided to put it up. Yet again I have no editor but I am talking to a friend currently, who has offered to do it. So hopefully the next chapter will be edited. So to make up for any grammar and spelling errors this is the longest chapter I have written! It is just about 14 and a half pages on word. I hope you all enjoy it and as always, please don't forget to comment and vote! Thank you all for your support! ~Vixen Nate looked out the window as his private jet began to land in the Richards' small private airfield. He looked towards the Betas and Thetas that were with him and noticed that they were all ready to get in motion as soon as the plane touched down. Nate sighed and hoped that they would be able to get all of the halflings out without any problems. As soon as the plane was ready for them to unload they all quickly grabbed their things and got off. "Hello Alpha Richards." Nate said with a smile as he saw that he was waiting with a few of his own Betas. "Welcome Alpha Rutheford." Richards greeted with a smile as well, shaking his friend's hand. "Shall we?" "Yes. Let's get started on this." They walked further into the Richards' pack land and headed for the Main House. Once they were in they went to a room that already had the other Betas and Thetas that some of the Alphas had sent over. "Go ahead and have your group sit anywhere they would like." Richards said before leading Nate up to the front of the room. They waited a few more minutes for everyone to settle before Richards cleared his throat. "We were going to do the transfer operation tomorrow but since your Alphas were so kind as to send you right away I have convinced the appropriate people to let us move it to tonight. We will be in two teams. One will be driving down to pick up the halflings and bringing them back here. I need to most level headed of us there to do it. The humans there haven't treated them very kindly and most likely they will be handcuffed, if not worse." He paused as practically everyone growled at that. He held up his hand and silence quickly fell but it was obvious that no one was happy with that thought. "I will need those that can stay calm and not shift in front of the humans. I already have a list that your Alphas have all recommended but if you wish to join I will consider it. The rest of you will be staying here and preparing for when they arrive. The Omegas are all setting up rooms for our guests as we speak and you will be over seeing them and when we arrive, making sure that each halfling is well taken care of and put in the appropriate rooms. You will have a bit of help with this from-" A Theta ran in at that moment and whispered into Alpha Richards' ear before scurrying off again. Alpha Richards smiled and looked back at the others. "Your help has just arrived apparently. I'm sure you will know them all from the video and news reports." He started to say before we all caught the scents of four unfamiliar humans and another scent we couldn't make out. At that moment five of the six people who were probably the most famous in the world at the time walked in. "Welcome Miss Baker, Mr. Baker, Mr. Nelson, Miss Smith, and Mr. Wilson." Richards said as he went to shake their hands. "Please. Just call me Jess." The beautiful brunet said as she shook his hand with the one that wasn't holding her child close. "Of course." "Yeah. We kind of don't care for the whole formal name thing anymore." The red-headed lanky, Isaac Wilson commented with a shrug. "What tends to happen when you spend a few weeks in a village of necos." Erik Nelson chuckled as the rest of the group shared a small smile. The smile quickly faded however and Jess turned to Richards and Nate with a suspicious look. The rest were looking around the room suspiciously. "Now passing by the rest of the pleasantries, Mr. Richards, why don't you tell us what you want with us and, more importantly, the tribe?" Jess asked, the man who was obviously her brother Kael, coming up and putting his hand on her shoulder. Both had a look of fierce determination on their faces, obviously willing to do anything for this tribe. "We plan on protecting them," Nate responded. He stepped forward and held out his hand to introduce himself. "I'm Nathaniel Rutheford but you can just call me Nate." He shook each of the five's hands, with a smile before getting serious again. "I was asked here to help but Alpha Richards is the one in charge." He explained, slipping up at bit. "Alpha?" Shelly questioned. Richards sighed and then turned to Nate and pulled him aside. "We must decide if we want to reveal ourselves to them." "They seem trustworthy enough. And obviously they will guard the tribe with their lives. I doubt they would reveal our secret for it may jeopardize the ones they are trying to protect." Nate stated. "Indeed. I think it is the only way that we will truly gain their trust as well." Richards agreed before they heard a gasp from behind them and saw the others humans all trying to hide Jess behind them. Nate and Richards looked at each other before going over to them. "Is something wrong?" Richards asked the group. "Nope. Nothing at all!" Isaac answered a little quickly. They all looked at each other worriedly before there was a few mewing noises and both Richards' and Nate's eyebrows went up. They gently pushed pass the others and were met with a very determined and fierce looking mother, who was holding a squirming bundle of blankets tightly to her chest. "She may be too warm." Nate suggested, backing up a bit at Jess' fierce expression. "She's find thank you," she snapped before there was the sound of clothing tearing and a little paw stuck out of the blanket. "Is that?" one of the Betas that had crept closer suddenly asked. "May I please?" Richards asked. Jess looked terrified but slowly unwrapped the blanket and showed them the small little panther cub inside. Nate and Richards smiled widely at that before Richards nodded at Nate. "That is a big secret you hold. How about a secret for a secret?" Nate offered with a smirk before he started to pull off his clothes. The five humans barely bated an eye at his nakedness but were obviously confused on what he meant. He smiled and waved at them before howling and quickly shifting into his wolf form. The rest of his pack answered his howl playfully but remained in their human forms. "Oh my god!" Shelly was the only one to exclaim as she clung to Erik. The other's all looked shocked but after a moment they seemed to snap out of it. "Werewolves?" Jess asked suspiciously. "Indeed. Everyone in this room is a werewolf my dear. Now when you asked what our intention was with your tribe Nate gave you the correct answer. We simply wish to protect them. The reason is however that we believe that they are just like our ancestors were. And your little girl there just proved it to be true." Richards explained as Nate shifted back and slipped his clothes back on. "Are you saying that my child is a... a werepanther or something?" "That is what we believe." He answered truthfully. Jess nodded, looking thoughtful before looking up at the two Alphas. "So you won't hurt the tribe? You won't test on them or anything? You will make sure they are safe?" She looked down for a second before looking back up at them with tears in her eyes. "Will you bring our mates back to us? Will you bring my son back to me?" "We will do everything we can," both Alphas agreed. "Then we will help you in any way we can." Jess declared, speaking for all five humans there. Richards nodded before turning back to the room full of Betas and Thetas and continued preparing for the mission that night. ```````````````````` "Everything looks good so far," Nate noted to Richards as the trucks waited for the halflings to be escorted out for transport. "Yes. They are just bringing them out now. Should be here in just a few minutes." The whole group waited in silence for what seemed like a very long time before the first group of the halflings finally arrived. They were all handcuffed with their hands behind their backs and they had bars between their feet to prevent them from running away. Some of them looked like they had been abused or starved and Nate was glad he had such good control over his wolf. He helped load the first truck before going onto the next one. Men, women and children were all shackled and it broke Nate's heart to see the sad looks in their eyes. After the first few trucks were loaded there came a few that the humans had dubbed dangerous and had been tranquilized for the move. Finally after probably about 200 of the Halflings had been put in the trucks there was only one group left. This group consisted of all female and three of them would not get in the truck and kept crying out. They broke free for a moment and each of them tried to run, but not away from the humans, the vans and the facility they were in but towards three different guards that were standing there. All the guards were looking slightly annoyed and flabbergasted as the three Halfling women tried to cling to them somehow. Almost all of Nate and Richards' team had to hold back laughter as they all realized what was going on. "Would you men mind coming with us?" Richards asked the three of them. "We may be a few men short and it seems that you might be able to keep these three calm." "Um. Sure. I guess." One of them responded with a blush. "It's not really appropriate sir. We would need to do all the right paper work and all." One of the others said. "Well we can do it in the morning. Really I insist." Richards pressed. "I have to get home to my wife sir." The third responded, trying to gently push the girl away. Richards and Nate shared and slightly pained look at that before they turned back to the three. "I absolutely insist. I am trying to make this as quick and painless as possible and I would really hate to have to monitor these three on tranquilizers as well as the seven others." Richards explained, doing his best to convince them. "Well if you are positive sir," the first responded. Finally after a bit more insisting they managed to convince the other two to come along as well and everyone was packed up in the trucks. They quickly left and made their way to the Richards pack lands. "That went a lot smoother than I thought." Richards commented once they finally arrived. Jess and the other humans were there at the door, waiting for them. Jess handed her baby off to Shelly and ran to the trucks, Isaac and Kael right behind her. Before any of the wolves could do anything she threw open the doors to the first truck and exclaimed something in the halflings language. "Jess!" They all exclaimed back, the truck filling with cries of surprise and relief. Jess helped every single one of them out as she talked to them in her language and explained what was going on. The Betas quickly unlocked their handcuffs and the bars on their legs to let them free before one of the other team of Betas and Thetas helped them to their rooms where they could rest. This happened with every single truck, Isaac and Kael helping as well. "Isaac!" came a cry from one of the halflings a few trucks into it. "Opy!" Isaac cried out as he pulled her into his arms and they both wept in joy. All the mated werewolves smiled weakly at that, understanding the emotions they were going through and hoping to get back to their mates as well. Opy stayed by his side through the rest of the night as they continued unloading the trucks. A little over halfway through Jess started to escort one of the older females towards the Main House. They were both crying together and Jess was talking very gently to her. Nate watched them and went to offer them help before he heard a slight growl behind him. Jereth suddenly sped beside him and was standing right in front of the two woman. "Ju?" the woman suddenly gasped in surprise, looking around as if expecting someone before starting to cry again. Jereth smiled at Jess, who was looking at him suspiciously before giving the woman a gentle look. "Hello. My name is Jereth. What is your name beautiful?" He asked as he offered his hand. Jess blinked and gave him a dirty look but translated for the woman. The woman seemed to finally notice that Jereth was there and looked up at him in confusion before taking his hand. Jereth suddenly pulled the woman close and sniffed along her neck. Nate almost grabbed him and beat the crap out of him because of the way he handled it but he knew he wouldn't be able to pull Jereth away from the woman now. He only hoped that the woman, who was obviously dealing with loss, didn't reject him. "What are you doing?" Jess demanded of Jereth. "I am comforting my mate," He stated surely, as if it was obvious. "Excuse me? You aren't her mate! Her mate was killed! How dare you say that!" Jess practically screamed in his face, trying to pull the halfling woman away. "Ju?" the woman asked again, looking up at Jereth in confusion before leaning over and sniffing at Jereth. "He smell Ju..." She seemed to try to explain to Jess. "But... How is that possible?" Jess asked in surprise, stopping in her attempts to pull the two apart. "May I?" Nate stepped in. "It doesn't happen often but because how long us werewolves tend to live we sometimes are able to find more than one mate. If a mate dies when we are young we can sometimes find one when we are older. We believe that it is due to reincarnation and that the souls stay the same and will forever be mates but the bodies will change." He explained the best he could. "So... You are saying that this is like Ju reincarnated or something?" Jess asked in confusion. "That is the best I can do for you." He answered with a slight shrug. He looked at Jereth and the halfling woman and chuckled. "I think they may understand though." Jess frowned but then nodded as she saw that they were both looking at each other like they were the only two there. The halfling woman burst into tears again and clung to Jereth. Jereth held her close as she cried and Jess sighed. "Her name is Mana. She is the queen of the tribe so treat her well. Her mate died when the humans destroyed the village." She explained to Jereth. He nodded and then turned to Mana with a smile, whispering to her gently even though he knew she couldn't understand him. "Kael!" came a cry that pulled Jess' attention back to the trucks. Nate turned to see her brother embracing a pure white halfling happily. "What of your mate?" Nate asked Jess as he watched the reunion. She turned away for a moment before giving a determined look and then going to the next truck. Nate sighed and went on to help her. The ones that had been tranquilized were still out and they were taken into the hospital wing of the Main House. There were only two trucks left and Jess was beginning to look desperate as she opened the last one that had any males in it. "Eene!!!" a young boy called out before Jess practically dove into the truck. "Zeezu!" she cried as she pulled him to her and burst into tears. Her son was safe but her mate was not among them. Nate looked down as he felt his heart break a bit for her. He let her sit there as they helped the rest of the Halflings out of that truck and went to the last one that was all females. The men that they had asked to come with were also in the truck with them and Nate almost fell on the floor laughing at what he saw. One of the three men had apparently just given into his mate and they were frantically making out as best as they could with her in cuffs. One of them was just holding his mate close but resisting anything else she tried to do and the third was desperately trying to keep his halfling mate away from him. "Welcome men. Once we get these ladies all freed up we will gladly explain everything and how things work around here. For now you will have to bear with us." Nate explained as the Betas began to release the halfling women. When they got to the last three women they unchained the first tried desperately to grab at her mate but he dodged and quickly climbed out of the truck. "I would like to return now, sir." He stated to Nate. Nate sighed and ran his fingers through his hair. "Gives us a bit of time to explain first please." He asked. The man gave a very short nod and then walked off to wait inside, the woman trying to follow him. The second pair was headed there as well but they were holding hands and obviously on much better terms. The third couple however was still plastered to each other in the truck. "Should we break them up?" one of the Betas asked. "Hey!" Nate suddenly yelled out, startling the couple enough to break them apart for a moment. "Give us a moment to untie the lady and explain what is going on before you go at it again, alright?" He asked with a slight smirk. The guy looked slightly sheepish but then nodded and helped the girl out of the truck. "Alright. Go ahead inside. We will be there soon." Nate sighed as they headed off and then walked back to the other truck where Jess was still sitting with her son, both of them crying. "I'm sorry for your loss." He told them gently. "We need your help now though Jess. You need to explain everything to them. If I could do it I would but you are the only one that is fluent in their language and English." "I... I understand. Give me a few moments." She sniffed finally. Nate nodded and went to go gather all the halflings into the dining area where they would all fit. Finally he got all but the ones in the hospital wing there and Jess calmed down enough to address them all. "Should I tell them what you guys are?" She asked Richards. "Yes. They should know everything they can. I don't want them to be kept in the dark any more. Tell them as much as you like." He answered with a nod. Jess smiled weakly and then turned to address the crowd of halflings, her son, Mana and Jereth at her side. She had insisted that Mana be up there with her and Jereth wouldn't let Mana go so he ended up being with them as well. Jess managed to get the group to quiet down and then began to talk to them. Nate assumed that she was explaining where they were, why they were brought there, how the people there meant them no harm and what the people there were. "Would you mind demonstrating what you are to them?" she asked Nate. Nate nodded and then shifted into his wolf form in front of the halflings. They all looked at him in shock and were obviously confused and slightly scared by the creature he was. He quickly shifted back and then Richards stepped forward and asked if she could translate for him while he explained the rules of the pack lands. Finally when that was all done Richards' pack was let in to introduce themselves to the halflings and to have dinner with them. Jess and the other humans did the best they could to translate amongst the tribe and the pack and the pack was very gentle and understanding with the tribe thankfully. "Sir. The other halflings are beginning to wake up." One of the Omegas came in to tell Richards and Nate. "We will be there in a moment," Richards replied before motioning at Jess. She came over quickly and then followed them out of the dining hall. "The others are beginning to wake." Richards explained to her as he led them towards the hospital wing. As they entered they heard quite a bit of hissing and growling and were surprised to find that one of the halflings managed to break out of his bonds. Jess called out something to all of the struggling halflings and they all seemed to calm down almost instantly, calling out her name and shouting out in joy. The only one that didn't calm down was the one that broke out. Jess quickly went to him and put her hand on his cheek and spoke softly to him. Two Worlds: Land of Ice Ch. 05 "What is wrong?" Richards asked as the male halfling growled and was calling out something in the tribe's language. "His mate was back at the other compound. She was a scientist there. That's why he was put as one of the violent ones. He kept trying to get to her but they wouldn't let him." Jess explained. "Could he describe her? I might be able to get her here." Richards offered. "Even better," Jess replied with a smile after a moment of talking with him. "He can draw her out." "Alright. Tell him we will find his mate and for now he needs to rest." Richards commanded with a nod before leaving the room. Once Jess was done talking to the men Nate pulled her out of the Hospital wing. "I'm sorry you lost your mate and that we needed you to be so strong to help with the rest. Go. Take your time to grieve and rest with what is left of your family. We will get you in the morning when the doctors need to do their checkups." Jess nodded at that, tears in her eyes as she ran off to find her children. Nate sighed as he thought of his own family and felt the need to hear their voices. He pulled out his cell phone and dialed his mates number. "I assume everything went well." Came the answer after a few rings. Nate smiled and sighed as he ran his fingers through his hair. "As well as it could have. A few of the tribe was killed apparently though. They are all trying to deal with the loss of it. Are you home now?" "Yep. Got the first flight back as soon as you called me. Just be happy I was able to reschedule everything." "I know. I'm sorry about this love." Nate sighed as he walked down the hall, heading for the guest bedroom he had been given for the night. "I understand honey. This is huge and I know will affect all the packs. It was best that you were there." Nate smiled at his mate's acceptance. "And that is why I love you babe." "Oh really? I thought it was just cause of my ass and tits." She teased back. "Well those definitely help." Nate chuckled as he entered the room and closed the door. "Just wait until I get home and can show those tits and ass just how much I love them." "Mmm. I can't wait." "Tell the kids I love them. I'm gonna hit the hay now. Good night my gorgeous mate." "Good night my love. Sleep well." Nate hung up and lay back on the bed. He didn't realize how tired he was, but as soon as his head hit the pillow, he was out. ~~~~~~ "Why are you doing this?" came the broken cry just down the hall. I flinched as I heard the pain in Becky's voice, wishing that her heart didn't have to be broken in order for Tristan to be with who he is meant to. I was thankful that Momsy and Dave had gone out shopping so it was just Sky, Riz, Tristan, Becky and I. I glanced over at Sky as I heard Tristan trying to calm Becky down and speak calmly to her. "This is your guys' fault you know." Riz informed us from the couch. "If you hadn't told him what happened and taken him to the cave then he wouldn't have found this so called 'mate' of his." "Would you rather we hadn't and he had never met his true love?" Sky shot back at her. "At least then they both would be happy! I mean really, she's been with him since we moved here! Do you really think she's going to just move on? I mean you might as well take her to the cave and see if her mate is there as well!" Sky looked at her with a shocked look before getting a huge grin on her face. "That is a brilliant idea!" she replied excitedly. "Really? But what if she doesn't find her mate there? Are you sure we can trust her enough to keep the tribe secret?" I asked, worried about Refre and the others. "I believe we can. I have gotten to know her the last few years. I think she is trustworthy. And if Tristan trusts her, I do." Sky concluded with a nod before standing up slightly unsteadily and heading for Tristan's room. I quickly got up and followed her, hoping that she was right. "Tristan?" she knocked on the door as she called out to him. It became silent and then the door slowly opened. "Yes Sky?" Tristan sighed, obviously looking a little exhausted. "Do you trust her?" Sky asked him seriously. He looked back at Becky who was sitting on the bed with her face in her hands. "Of course," he responded truthfully. Sky nodded before turning to Becky. "Tomorrow could you come over? We have something we need to show you. Something that will help it all make sense." Sky explained. Becky looked at her strangely for a few moments before nodding slightly. Sky smiled and then walked in and gave Becky a hug. Becky suddenly gasped and then lifted Sky's shirt, revealing her baby bump. "When did this happen? Whose is it?" she asked with wide eyes. She ran her hands along Sky's stomach and Sky bit her lip in worry. "That's part of the thing we want to show you tomorrow." I cut in, knowing that we probably shouldn't tell her much more than that. Becky frowned but then nodded and leaned in and put her ear to Sky's stomach. "About six months, right?" she inquired. Sky nodded and Becky moved her ear a bit. "I can't tell but I can hear at least one strong healthy heart beat... Maybe two." "Two?" Tristan asked in surprise. Sky looked a little worried at that and glanced over at Tristan as Becky nodded. "I can't be sure though. Not without a stethoscope or ultrasound." Becky admitted. "Do you think you could get your hands on one of those?" Tristan asked. "Are you working to be a doctor?" I added. "Midwife actually. I'm almost done with my degree." She said with a smile as she continued to feel Sky's stomach. "Hey! I'm out of water!" Riz suddenly called from the living room. I jumped and felt a bit guilty as I realized I had almost forgotten about her. I ran out into the living room and grabbed her cup before filling it up. "Sorry about that Riz." "It's fine. So, what date is our flight again? I can't wait to get back to California where it's warm." Riz started gushing. I flinched as I realized I hadn't thought about what I would do after summer was over. I couldn't leave Refre but I couldn't take him with me. What do I want now? Am I going to give up everything for him? Could I? I questioned myself as Riz continued to gush about California and the plans we had made before. Yes, my heart answered almost immediately. Just in the few short days I had been with him I had fallen completely in love with him. He truly seemed to be my soul mate. He loved to joke around but was a complete romantic at heart. We laughed together and I was touched by all the romantic things he tried to do for me. He brought me a whole seal a one point and Sky explained to me that it was a symbol of his intent to mate with me and that he had searched for a good portion of the day for the biggest one he could find. I accepted it gladly even though I had no idea what to do with it. Sky had taught me what I was to do with it as well as several other things that were needed to help the village with day to day life. I have enjoyed every moment there and even though I have always hated the cold, I was now getting used to it. I no longer saw the area around me as a desolate white wasteland, but instead as a beautiful landscape of shimmering crystal ice. "What do you think? Purple or green?' Riz asked, pulling me out of my thoughts. "For what? Sorry. I spaced a bit." I said slightly sheepishly. "For our dorm colors of course!" Riz said, rolling her eyes. "Purple. DEFINITELY purple." I chuckled slightly before looking down as Riz continued to ramble on. Finally a few minutes later Becky and the others came out and Becky left. "She'll be back tomorrow." Tristan said before sitting down on the couch next to me. "How are you doing Riz?" "My ankle still hurts. I hope it heals soon. I don't like just sitting around all the time. It's boring." She complained. "Hopefully you'll be up and about soon." Sky assured her as she sat in the other recliner. Riz simply grumbled at that and then went back to watching the TV. The rest of the day was spent with us watching silly shows and Riz going on and on about California. I didn't have the heart to tell her that I wasn't sure if I was going yet. "You're going again tomorrow, aren't you?" Riz asked almost accusingly as we laid in bed. "I have to Riz," I replied with a sigh. "I need to see Refre." "You sound like some over attached stocker girlfriend." She retorted. I sighed but didn't respond, feeling pretty bad that she couldn't come with us. I slipped into a deep sleep a few minutes later, my dreams for once of a land of ice. Two Worlds: Land of Ice Ch. 06 Hello everyone! This one is a bit short but I felt that it was where the chapter needed to end. The next one is already written though and I think I'm going to try to actually send it to an editor this time before posting it. This one I just decided to post anyways, so sorry for any mistakes. Also I will be posting a new story soon because the characters in it are driving me crazy. I think I might post it with this one so they may come out at the same time. Please read it too! Thank you all! As always, don't forget to comment and vote! ~Vixen "So where are we going?" Becky asked as we drove along in her truck. "Take this road here." Sky told her as she sat in the back with me. We sat in silence for a moment before finally sky told her to pull over. We all got out and put the furs around us, except Becky who didn't have one. She looked around and then looked at us expectantly. "Okay. So what did you want to show me?" she asked in a no nonsense way. "We have to get there first," Sky told her as she started to lead the way. I quickly followed and we heard Tristan whispering a bit to Becky before they both followed. We trudged on for a bit, walking over the ice carefully until we finally got to the cave. We slipped down and then headed down the tunnel. We all stayed silent surprisingly, all lost in our own thoughts most likely. Finally we got to the cave and it opened up to the village. I heard a gasp and looked behind me to see Becky stopped in her tracks, staring wide eyed at the village before us. "Wow. This is beautiful. Did you guys make this?" she asked before suddenly Faraf came running out of his igloo and towards Sky. Becky screamed as soon as she saw Faraf and if it wasn't for Tristan grabbing her, she would have run off. "Hey. Calm down. They won't hurt you." He calmly soothed her. "What do you mean? It's a freaking polar bear!" she cried back. "Look again," I said with a smiled as Faraf picked Sky up and cradled her close. Becky stopped struggling and actually looked at Faraf. She stared at him for a moment with wide eyes before suddenly fainting. "Well then. She took that well." I muttered. Tristan sighed slightly before picking her up and starting to carry her towards the village. I followed him but barely took a few steps before I was picked up by Refre. I squealed and giggled before kissing him lightly on the nose. He chuckled and rubbed my nose with his. I sighed happily and relaxed in his arms as he carried me to the village. "Who girl?" he asked me as we reached the center of the village. "Her name is Becky. She's a friend." I explained as best I could but didn't want to try to explain the whole thing about her being engaged to Tristan. "What do today?" he asked as he sat me down. "Talk mate ceremony?" My stomach got in a bit of knots about that but I nodded and then looked around for Sky so she could help me translate a bit better. She smiled as she sat down next to me and Faraf sat down next to her. We talked about the mating ceremony more and what all it entailed. It was somewhat like a wedding ceremony, where the King and Queen would marry us and afterwards there would be a huge feast. But then we had to have sex in front of the King and Queen, which is what had me a little nervous. Thankfully it wasn't in front of the whole village or anything because I don't know if I could have done that. After that night we were to stay in the igloo of the King and Queen until our own igloo was done. I have to stay here for that time. I can't leave him. But will I be able to leave him at all once we are mated? I questioned myself as we went over everything. "I'm fine, I'm fine. Really Tristan, no need to worry," came Becky's voice as she walked out of Eha's family igloo, Tristan close behind her. "Hey Becky. Feeling better?" Sky asked her as she came and sat by us. "Yes. I feel completely embarrassed that I fainted like that! I normally don't faint that easy. It's just a lot to take in, you know?" she responded with a sigh before looking at Sky. "I think you know the most about all of this, right? So why don't you tell me what's going on? How did you find these... people?" Sky smiled shyly and then went on to tell her story and explain the life and culture of the bears. She even explained how Riz and I had found out and how we later brought Tristan in to meet them. She also explained about the rival village and for some reason that seemed to interest Becky the most. "Why are they fighting with each other? I mean it seems like it would be more beneficial to help each other, wouldn't it?" "They have been fighting for as long as they can remember over territory and food. It would be more beneficial though if they joined together. I mean not many of them are finding their mates within their own village now and I'm afraid their numbers are getting less and less." Sky told us all sadly. I looked around and felt saddened by this information. If only the two tribes would get along. Maybe they would find their mates then. Or maybe their mates are out in our world... I thought before pushing the thought away. I couldn't think that way because exposing them could definitely harm them more than help. "Maybe we could get them to sit down and talk about things better. Or at least hold a tribe get-together to possibly get the non-mated to find their mates with the other tribe. We could have it where if anyone ever does find their mates then they stay with the tribe of the female." Becky suggested. Sky's eyes suddenly went wide before she sat and thought about it for a minute. "You know Becky that might just work... I know the King and Queen have both been worried about how a good portion of the tribe hasn't met their mates. Maybe they'll be worried about it enough to consider it." Sky said with a smile before hugging Becky close. "Thank you! You are brilliant!" Becky blushed at that before hugging her back and chuckling. "Anything to help," she shrugged. "Well I do have another way you could help actually." Sky offered with a smile. "I'm sure some of the pregnant females wouldn't mind a check up." Becky's whole face lit up at that and she practically sprung up out of her seat before helping Sky up and they ran off. I looked at Refre with a smile before kissing his cheek and running after them. For the next few hours we visited all five of the pregnant females and several mothers and babies to check on how they were all doing. Becky was a natural at dealing with this sort of thing and I watched in amazement as she connected with all the mothers. Wow. People person I guess. I thought with a smile as we finished up with the last baby's check up. "Becky? Could you come with me? I want to tell the King and Queen about your idea before we go." Sky asked as we walked out of the igloo. "Okay. I guess I can do that." Becky agreed a little nervously. I thought about following them but instead decided to go find Refre. I looked around and even went to his family igloo, but couldn't seem to find him. Just when I began to give up hope and think he went on another hunting trip, I suddenly felt arms slip around me and pull me close. I smiled and turned around to bury my face into his warm fur. "Hello," I greeted as I smiled and looked up at him and he kissed my forehead. "Hello. Have fun with cubs?" He asked in a mix of English and his language. I nodded and smiled before blushing at his look of utter adoration. I suddenly got a flash of my stomach round with child and wondered if he was thinking of the same thing. He pulled me close again, nuzzling my neck and running his hands along my back. I sighed happily and relaxed into his arms before looking up to see Sky and Becky coming out of the main igloo. "They agreed to it! They are sending a messenger!" Sky exclaimed happily before suddenly being picked up by Faraf and giggling. "That's good! Hopefully the other tribe's leader will accept the invitation." I responded hopefully. "We should get going," Tristan's voice came from behind me. We all sighed and I knew Tristan probably wasn't happy about the thought of leaving either but we did have to get home before people became suspicious. All of us who had mates kissed them goodbye before we headed off. "Can we come back soon?" Becky asked as we got out of the cave system and started to head for the car. We all blinked in surprise before smiling. "Of course," Sky told her happily. "You are welcome to come with us any time. But you will keep them a secret right?" "Of course! I saw that report about the cat things. I wouldn't want them to end up like that..." Becky looked a little worried at that and we all smiled, glad she was on the same page. We got into the car and started to head towards town. "I thought we were going home?" I asked as we got closer to town and didn't head for the house. "I want to check on Sky and the baby." Becky responded before pulling up to the hospital and parking. "We are going to sneak in real quick and just use the ultrasound for one moment." We all quickly got out and then into the hospital, heading for the room with the ultrasound in it. Thankfully it wasn't being used at the moment and Becky quickly hooked it all up. Soon we were looking at an image of the baby. Or should I say, babies? "Two? As in twins?" Sky asked with wide eyes. "Yep. My suspicions were right. You are definitely having twins." Becky said and she clicked on a few buttons. "And they look completely human." Sky bit her lip at that, looking at the picture. I looked as well, noting that Becky was right. They had no fur on them, no claws and their bone structure was completely human. "What does that mean?" Sky asked a little worriedly. "It means you can tell mom and dad." Tristan said pointedly. Sky looked a little panicked at that and started to shake her head. "Sky. Calm down. They have to know eventually and pretty soon you won't be able to hide it no matter how hard you try." I told her as I squeezed her hand lightly. Sky still looked a little panicked but nodded weakly. "I know... I'm just scared..." she admitted. "I know sis. It will be alright though." Tristan tried to comfort her. "Let's get you home, okay?" ```````````````` Nate sighed as he watched Jess gather up the halflings and start to explain what would happen during their checkups. Nate technically had a medical degree so offered to help out with all the patients the pack doctor and his assistants would have to deal with. They also managed to find a few of the other Betas from the other packs that had medical degrees and could help. All together there were ten doctors or nurses who could look them over. Nate and Barley, the Anderson pack doctor, were the most experienced so would deal with the more serious patients. None of the halflings looked to be seriously hurt so Nate hoped that it would all just be quick and easy. Jess thankfully had written out a few phrases for them all so that they could ask simple questions and understand simple answers. Anything harder than that and she would have to be there to help them. They all had radio devices in case they needed her or each other. "Alright, they are as ready as they can be." Jess finally told them as she finished talking to the halflings. They all nodded and headed into separate rooms that had been set up as exam rooms. Nate sat down and waited for the first person to enter. It was a man and Nate went through his questions rather quickly as he drew blood, checked his pulse, blood pressure and temperature and made sure his eyesight and hearing were good. Everything seemed fine and he ended by asking if there was anything he would like Jess to come in and explain. The man shook his head and Nate smiled at him before letting him out. This continued on with the next few patients, Nate not needing help yet but hearing the others call out for Jess a few times. A few patients later he smiled as he recognized Opy, Isaac's mate. They talked and she tried to explain some things but her English wasn't enough so Nate had to call Jess in. "Thanks. Sorry but I need to ask her a few more questions because of how she has been answering these ones." He explained to Jess as she sat down next to Opy and hugged her. "Can you ask her when her last period was?" he started off. Jess blinked at him in surprise before turning to Opy and asking her. Opy's eyes suddenly went wide as she seemed to count back and answered her question. She then exclaimed excitedly and Jess grew excited to, smiling and giggling a bit. Nate raised his eyebrow at them before chuckling and getting their attention again. "I'm assuming it's been awhile." He asked with a smile. "Yes. About three months." Jess responded with a huge smile. Nate nodded and wrote this down on the patient sheet. "Well, we'll do the blood test just in case but it is definitely very possible that she's pregnant." Nate told her with a big smile. A child was always something to be celebrated in pack life and made just about everyone happy. Nate hoped that this was a good sign. "Thank you. Is there anything else?" Jess asked as she smiled at Opy, holding her hands excitedly. "Not unless she has any complaints," he responded before letting them out since Opy's only complaint was she wanted to go tell her mate now. Finally after all the patients were checked over, Nate stepped out of the room and went to go talk with the other doctors. "Besides a bit of malnutrition, minor diseases and possibly a few small fractures, they all seem fine. One of my patients is even pregnant." Nate announced to them happily. "Two of mine were as well," Barley chuckled. "That's a good sign," one of the nurses responded. "Indeed. Well, we'll get the blood work all done and then see how things go. Hopefully no one will need major surgery or anything though." Barley said with a sigh. "They might start coming in sick soon though, with the new diseases they'll be exposed to." One of the other packs' Betas spoke up. "Hopefully the vaccines will help a bit with that." Nate responded before running his fingers through his hair. "I don't know about all of you, but I'm starving." "Yes. Food would probably be a good idea." Barley started to say before his eyes clouded over and his head snapped around. Nate's eyebrows went up before he looked over at what had suddenly caught Barley's attention. Nate chuckled as he saw three of the halfling girls walking down the hall. "Yes. Let's go eat." Nate teased as he walked passed Barley, snapping him out of it. Barley chuckled before following Nate. They quickly caught up with the girls and Barley gently tapped one of them on the shoulder. They all turned at the same time and Nate realized that they all looked very similar and had to be sisters. They all had black shiny fur and green eyes. They had slightly different features but they all looked almost identical. The one that Barley tapped on the shoulder was obviously the oldest and the smallest one seemed to hide behind her a bit when she saw Barley. "Hello my beauty," Barley greeted her rather huskily as he took her hand and kissed it lightly. The girl looked annoyed for a second and pulled her hand away before suddenly sniffing the air and freezing up. Her eyes went huge before a grin split her face and she pounced on Barley, crying out something joyfully. The youngest of the three sisters looked confused but the middle started to giggle like mad as Barley and their eldest sister latched onto each other. "Congratulations Barley. Lucky you gets one of these feisty kittens for yourself." One of the Betas who had been helping the doctor chuckled. The rest of the group laughed a bit at that before the doctor and his mate got up and they all headed for the dining room. Nate looked around and smiled at all the couples that had been reunited and the new couples that were forming. Sure they had a bit of difficulty with language and slight culture differences but now that the halflings weren't in chains they seemed to adapting to things much better. "You know about a third of the tribe is mated, a fourth are a little too young to and the rest seem to be finding them rather quickly now that they are out." Jess suddenly comment. Nate looked over, not having noticed her standing beside him until right then. She was holding her squirming little girl as her son clung to her leg, looking slightly fearful at everything. "Perhaps this is what Luna wanted," Nate said with a shrug. Jess chuckled at that and shook her head. "Lune, God, the Fates, whatever it may be, they were obviously meant to get out of those caves. I just wish it hadn't been so rough and violent for them." She sighed, sadness in her voice. Nate nodded and looked around at the group of wolves and cats interacting with each other. He heard laughter and conversation coming from both and smiled slightly. "But hopefully they will be happy now. Hopefully we will be able to figure out a way to get them more freedom. If they are meant to be around humans and us wolves to find their mates then we must find a way for them to do that. It will be a rough, probably very politically involved road but hopefully we can do it." Nate tried to encourage her. She nodded before looking thoughtfully into the distance. "And I know just the person to help." She said suddenly before turning to him. "Do you have a phone I could use?" Nate nodded and gave her his phone, wondering who she was calling. He followed her out into the hall as she dialed the number and waited for the person to answer. "Hello? Charles? It's Jess. Charles, please, wait! They need your help. You are the only one that can help them." Two Worlds: Land of Ice Ch. 07 "You're going again, aren't you?" Riz asked from the chair she was set up on. I sighed at that and ran my fingers through my hair. "I'm sorry Riz. I'll stay home with you tomorrow, okay?" I suggested with a weak smile as Tristan and Sky slipped on their coats and Momsy was in the kitchen cleaning up breakfast. Riz frowned and seemed to pout a bit before turning back to the television. "Fine. Promise? Cause you haven't been a very good friend lately." She grumbled, not looking at us. I sighed and went over to hug her. "I promise. I'll spend the whole day with you tomorrow and we can do whatever you want." I told her before letting go and heading for the door. "See you later Momsy!" I called out as Tristan and Sky also said their goodbyes. We got into Tristan's truck and drove off into town. We stopped by Becky's and she slipped into the back with me. "Alright. Let's go." She said a little excitedly. We were all excited and anxious to find out what the other village's response had been to the messenger, so Tristan went as fast as he could while still being careful. We parked on the normal road and almost ran to the cave; however Becky made us slow down so that Sky wouldn't over exert herself. We were to the village in record time and were surprised to see a group coming from the other side of the cave systems and the King and Queen sitting outside the igloo with much of the village around them. We did run for the village then and all sat down next to Faraf and Refre. "What's going on?" I asked Sky after she had been talking to Faraf for a moment. "The King of the rival village accepted the invitation and decided to come today. He has brought himself and twenty other unmated males. They are going to discuss a peace agreement and see if their mates are among the unmated females." Sky whispered excitedly. I felt like shouting out in joy but kept quiet as the group of males came into the main circle of the village. "Yes!" I heard Becky hiss quietly in celebration as Tristan whispered what Sky had said to me. We all smiled as the King and his men started to pass us. I noticed the King pause for a moment and wondered what was happening before he continued on and bowed slightly to the King and Queen of our village. They in return stood up and bowed to him before offering him a place to sit and beginning to talk. We all sat there and tried to listen and understand. Sky tried to keep up and explain everything as the conversation went along. Finally she said they came to the part about mates and the families of the unmated females went into their igloos to collect things that had the females' scents. Sky turned and talked to Faraf for a moment before he nodded and stood up silently. They both turned to Becky and Sky suddenly unwrapped Becky's scarf from around her neck. "I'll take that and see you later. Technically you aren't supposed to be out of the family's hut during this." Sky smiled teasingly. Becky blinked before squealing as Faraf picked her up and took her into his family's hut. "I almost forgot about that... Since she's not mated she's not even really supposed to be outside, is she?" I asked. "Yep. It's bad luck to see before one or the other smells. And really they are supposed to ask the parents of the female to be formally introduced. You and I are special cases but I did have Faraf ask for Tristan." Sky explained. "Will she be okay? You probably should have explained that to her." Tristan worried. "Don't worry about it. Besides, since you are the male of our little 'family' you are supposed to go around and let all the males smell this." She said before handing Tristan Becky's scarf. "You want me to go mate off my ex-fiancée?" he asked with a raised eyebrow. "Like I said, you are basically the head family member of our little 'family' so you have to." Sky responded with a shrug. Tristan sighed before standing up and going to copy what the other head of families were doing. Each of them had something with their daughter's or sister's, or whoever else was unmated, scent on it. They would pause at one of the visiting males and if the scent was that of one of the male's mate then they would go with the head of family to discuss their mate and formally ask to meet them. By the time it got to Tristan's turn to share Becky's scent, 15 out of the 21 men had found their mate. Tristan stepped up and held it before the first male who sniffed it and then grumbled. This happened with the remaining men until he got to the King. The King practically snatched the scarf and rubbed it against his face. Tristan laughed and I helped Sky stand up so we could both go over to them. Wow! Becky's the King of the other village's mate? This is amazing! Fate really is pulling us all together! I thought with a smile as Sky and Tristan began to talk to the King about Becky. Tristan and the King had Sky translate for them as the King formally asked to meet Becky to discuss their mating. Tristan of course agreed and we all headed for Faraf's family igloo. "This is crazy! Let me out!" I looked over at Sky as I heard Becky yelling from the door outside the igloo. We walked in to see Faraf blocking her way out. "Becky? Why don't you sit down? Sorry about this. I probably should have explained it sooner." Sky started before getting Becky to sit down and explaining just what was going on. "So you mean to tell me that you have basically already married me off?" Becky asked, looking pissed. "No. This is more of setting you up on a supervised blind date." Sky shrugged, figuring that was the best she could do. "You don't have to mate him if you don't want to but I've already told you that they find their soul mates by smell and King Rau's nose says it's you." "Okay... Fine. I'll meet him." Becky sighed, giving in. Sky smiled and motioned for Faraf to let the King in. Faraf nodded and called out and a few moments later King Rau walked in and locked eyes with Becky. The both stood mesmerized for a moment before the King came up and knelt down before here and whispered something in their language. Becky was blushing slightly at the way he was looking at her and then turned to Sky. "What did he say?" she asked quietly. "Well the direct translation is 'More beauty than the Fish Woman.'" Sky said with a giggle. "But that is in reference to their goddess and basically means you are the most beautiful thing he could ever imagine." Becky blushed a little deeper and turned back to look into King Rau's expecting eyes. "Tell him thank you and that he is rather beautiful too." She said softly with a slight smile. Sky chuckled and did so before Faraf offered for all of us to sit down and eat lunch. '''''''''''''''''' "So why wasn't this Charles here when we sent for you?" Richards asked after Jess had explained that the man was going to be coming to the compound. Jess sighed and Nate sat up a bit, also curious about what had happened. "Well. He is hurting right now and I think putting him around the tribe just upsets him. I think he also might be afraid of their anger." She finally admitted. "Because he exposed them?" Nate asked, remembering the video of Charles and the halflings. "No. Although that probably doesn't help things in his mind." Jess bit her lip. "Then why? What's his story?" Richards inquired. Jess sighed again before adjusting Losy in her arms. "Five and a half years ago, Shelly, Charles, my brother, another one of our friends and I went on a camping trip. I, in a clumsy and stupid moment, ran ahead and wasn't paying attention to the ground beneath me and fell down through a hole and into the cave systems that held the tribe. I fell practically into my mate's lap and he brought me back to his village before my friends could even pull out a rope to climb down. For about five years I lived with this tribe and learned their ways, fell in love with one of their princes and had his children. A couple months ago my mate found my friends wondering through the cave systems trying to find me. Naturally he brought them back and they were shocked to find me living with a village of nekos that seemed to be pulled right out of an anime. Shelly and Eric's anthropology sides came out and they were interested right away and didn't want to leave. Kael got swept up by the fact that he had a nephew and soon he and Isaac found their mates. Charles, however, was never very happy there and wanted to leave. His mate found him and I hoped that she could change his mind. Her name was Unari. She was my sister, the princess and first in line to run the tribe. I think maybe this was too much to put on Charles though, because he began to disappear after that, only returning for food and to sleep. We found out later that he was hiding out in the woods around the village, hiding from the tribe and from his mate. Then one day... that fateful day, he pulled Eric aside and told him he wanted to go home. We weren't forcing him to stay of course and we had been planning on talking to him about it since he had been dodging Unari, but he beat us to it. Eric asked him why and finally he admitted that the problem was that he did care for Unari but didn't think that he was her mate. He felt that because of their age difference and the fact that he didn't feel he could help her run the tribe without the power going to his head, that they weren't meant to be mates. Finally Eric agreed that it might be best that Charles, Shelly and himself went home for at least a little while. Eric came to talk to me and was just telling me what Charles had said when we suddenly heard him cry out Unari's name... It sounded completely distraught and we ran towards it. By the time we got there, Charles, my mate and two others were gone... And all that was left was Unari's body. One of the kids had been hiding up in the trees and saw the whole thing. She said that Charles and Unari had been fighting and Charles pushed her away from him a little too hard and she fell and hit her head on a large bolder. She broke her neck and died instantly. The child said that Charles expression was heartbreaking... I could only imagine..." She trailed off and wiped away some of her tears. Richards and Nate sat there in shock as they heard the end of her story. Neither could imagine the amount of pain accidently killing your own mate would cause. They understood now why Charles wouldn't want to be around the tribe. He would probably see his mate's face everywhere. "H-He agreed to come though. He agreed that the tribe would need some legal and political help if they are to be treated like more than tests subjects." Jess finally said. "Alright. Well have him call you the moment he is at the front gate and we'll let him in." Richards agreed. "Thank you." Jess nodded before getting up and going to find her son. "That poor man..." Nate sighed. "I can't even imagine..." Richard shook his head before standing up. "If you don't mind, I have a powerful need to be with my mate." "Not a problem." Nate chuckled, also feeling that need and deciding to call her. "Ello?" came a sweet, little, high pitched voice. "Hey sweety! How are you doing?" Nate asked his little angel. "Daddy!" Liliana chirped happily. "Daddy's on the phone Mommy! Oh! Daddy! Guess what!" "What?" Nate took the bait with a smile. "I got my first lose tooth today!" She answered excitedly. "No way! I can't believe I'm missing that!" "Yeah! Here's Zachy!" "Daddy! I caught a squirrel today!" Zachariah announced happily. "Ah. Mommy didn't feel like cooking, hey?" Nate teased. "Don't tell her I said that." "I heard that. Alright you two! Go brush your teeth." Rachel called to their children on the other side. "How have you been my beautiful, precious mate? Have I told you how much I love you recently?" Nate asked with a smile. "Alright, what do you want?" Rachel asked with a bit of a laugh. "Nothing, love, I just miss you." "I miss you too. But there is something else, isn't there?" she asked. Nate sighed and sat back down. "Someone else is coming to the compound soon and well... Let's just say he has a rather sad story. I can't even imagine the pain something like that could cause... I just... Needed to hear your voice." He finally admitted. "Wow. Must have been a horrible story to have affected you so badly. I'm sorry love. I am safe though. You have nothing to worry about." She reassured him. "I know. You are my mate though. I will always worry about your safety. I love you." "I love you too. When do you think you'll be home?" "Not for at least another day or two." "Well let me know when you know for sure. I have a need that only you can satisfy." She teased him. "Oh? Tell me more about this need." "I need your hands touching my hard, perky nipples. I need your lips trailing kisses down my body. I need your tongue slipping into my intimate places while I suck your cock down my throat. I need you- to hug and give me kisses until I feel all warm and bubbly inside! Now tell your father goodnight kids." "Night Daddy!" echoed their voices as Nate stifled a groan. "Night little ones." He called back. "I'll talk to you later love. Goodnight and I love you." "I love you too, my wonderful mate. I love you so much. Goodnight." Nate said before sighing as he hung up the phone. "Separation anxiety?" came a slight chuckle from the doorway. Nate looked up to see Isaac standing there and chuckled as well before sighing. "Yeah. Pretty much." "I know how that feels..." Isaac sighed, looking down the hall. "What do you need?" Nate asked after a moment. "Well, honestly I had a few question about... Um... Well about werewolves I guess." He said with a shrug. "Oh. Sure. Sit down and ask away." "Okay. Um, well how much of werewolf lore is fact?" he started to ask before Eric and Shelly peeked their heads in. "Can we ask and listen too?" Shelly asked a little shyly. "Of course. Come in and sit down. I can tell you anything you like. Now as far as werewolf lore goes: silver has no affect to us; we do tend to shift during the full moon, but only because we want to and not because we have to; we only have two forms, which is the full wolf and the full human so there is no hybrid form. Let's see... We can be killed any way a human can we just heal a bit faster, we age slower, and we have increased senses, strength and speed. Oh and most importantly: our bit isn't contagious." Nate told them, trying to think of anything else that he had forgotten that had to do with popular lore. "How do you mate?" Eric asked, jotting down notes in a note pad. "We have sex and during our climax usually the male bites the female. However we have had a few cases where a female wolf mated a human male and then the female had to do the biting. How does the tribe do it?" "They form during sex as well but it has to be the first time for the female I think." Shelly responded. "They used to think it had to be the couple's first time but then Kael and I disproved that." Isaac added with a shrug. "Huh. That is how the stories said it was for our ancestors as well... Interesting..." Nate thought out loud. "Do you happen to have any stories or history written down?" Shelly asked hopefully. "Yes actually. Our earliest believed histories are written in the Book of Luna but most think of them to just be legends now. We have more recent histories as well written down in several places. Would you like to look at some of them?" "Yes please!" Shelly and Eric both answered, making them all laugh. Nate showed them over to the library and the notes of the more recent history before asking Richards to borrow his Book of Luna. Eric and Shelly spent hours looking it over but Isaac went to bed with his mate after she came to drag him away. Nate yawned as he noticed just how late it was and Shelly noticed. She looked at the time and then looked at it again in surprise. "I'm sorry! We are keeping you up, aren't we?" "It's fine. I understand. This is all new and probably very interesting to you. It's not every day you run into a new culture." Nate assured her with a smile. "Well maybe it is for you two." He added as an afterthought, causing all of them to chuckle. "Yeah. And analyzing cultures and such is our job." Eric added with a grin. "Yes. Jess told me how you are both anthropologists. I bet the untouched tribe of cat creatures was heaven for you two." "It was, for multiple reasons." Shelly said as she looked up at Eric with loving eyes. He smiled and looked back at her with the same look and Nate chuckled. "Well maybe we should all get to bed now." Nate suggested before they became too entrapped by each other. "Probably would be a good idea." Eric agreed. He led Shelly off to their room and Nate chuckled before heading for his own. He lay down on his bed and was asleep in only a few minutes. ''''''''''''''' Becky sighed as King Rau left, promising to return and talk about their mating more in two days. She lay back on the floor of the igloo we were in and sighed again. "Well that was interesting." She commented. "That's one word you could use." Sky shrugged. "You felt it though, didn't you?" "What? You mean the attraction? The pull to be with him? Yeah. Definitely felt that. How could I not? Especially with how sweet he is." Becky smiled. I smiled as well, thinking about Refre and how I felt the same about him. I looked around the room and realized it was just us girls now. "Where did the boys go?" I asked Sky. "Well Faraf went to show the King out and wish him farewell. I think Refre is working on a new bone knife and Tristan went to go visit his mate." She responded before lying back with Becky. I smiled and lay back as well, thinking about how good of a hunter Refre was. When did that become so important? I thought to myself as I realized I was starting to think like a village member. It didn't bother me too much but it made me realize how much I love the village and want to be a part of it, and not just because of Refre. Sure he was a big part of it but I could see now that I had fallen in love with the simple lifestyle and culture of the village. I can't leave now... I can't go back to California and not see this anymore... "How are we going to explain this to our families?" Becky suddenly asked. "What do you mean?" Sky asked. "Well I'm going to become Queen of the other village and you three are going to be mates with people in this one. We can't be coming and going all the time, especially me. So what are we going to tell our parents?" she explained, making me realize that she was on the same thought process as me. "Well... I was going to tell them that I was moving out. I didn't really think beyond that." Sky admitted. "We have to tell them something..." I told them with a sigh. "Yeah... Maybe we can tell them that we are all moving in together somewhere kind of far away. And then tell them that we didn't save enough up to get a phone or internet." Becky suggested. "Knowing my parents they would ask for the address and then try to send us a phone." I groaned slightly. "Mine might try that too..." Sky frowned. We lay there for a few minutes trying to think it over. "Maybe... Okay don't freak out right away at this but... Maybe we can tell them the truth. Just think about it for a moment." Becky finally stated. I could see that Sky automatically wanted to shoot the idea down, and I was slightly agreeing with her until I actually thought about it. "That could work... We just tell them the truth and let them decide whether or not they believe us. If not then we leave anyways and they can think we went off to college or ran off with some boy or whatever it is they choose to believe. And either way we don't lie to them and they will know where we are even if they don't believe us." I reasoned with a shrug. Sky bit her lip and seemed to still be thinking about it for a moment. Two Worlds: Land of Ice Ch. 07 "Alright. I guess it really is the best option. I just really hope they don't freak out and send a search crew after all of us." She finally admitted. We all laughed it off, but it was definitely something I knew we all feared at that moment. We lay there for a bit longer, each of us in our own thoughts before Becky sat up. "Well if I'm going to live here I need to learn more about these people. Can you teach me Sky?" she asked with puppy dog eyes. Sky laughed before sitting up slowly and nodding. "Of course. It's not every day you run into a new culture after all. I'll teach you everything I know." Two Worlds: Land of Ice Ch. 08 Hello everyone! Sorry this took so long but I had finals to deal with and things got crazy at home and then I went on vacation so I didn't have time to work on this. I just finished and decided that I didn't care about editing it because it has been so long since the last chapter that I think you guys deserve this one right away. This is the second to last chapter of this story and I'm working on the last right now. I'm actually half way done with it. As usual please don't forget to comment and vote! Thank you all so much for the support! ~Vixen The next two days I tried desperately not to think of the village and concentrate on Riz. She had been right of course. I hadn't been the best friend lately. I had practically ignored her and I felt really bad about it so I tried to make up for it. We watched television and Riz talked on and on about California and gossip about our favorite celebrities. I tried to participate but I started to realize how trivial it all was. The village at that moment was hunting and foraging for food, having to prep and cook it themselves, and here I was eating microwave popcorn just because we were watching a movie. I wasn't even all that hungry! I was warm and didn't need a fire and several layers of clothing to keep myself that way. I didn't have to do anything to provide myself or my family with food and earlier we had gone to an unlimited source of information that we can access in a second and looked up pictures of nearly naked actors. I was beginning to wonder if human race had lost something when we started to create so much technology that we now depend upon so heavily. "The CGI of this movie is terrible!" Riz commented, interrupting my train of thought. "Yeah. Personally I liked it when they used puppets and costumes instead of all this green screen and such. I think the acting was more realistic with those kinds of things too." I admitted. "Yeah. It gives you something to react to instead of just having to imagine it. Thankfully I won't have to deal with that issue though. You will! But I'm sure you'll be great anyways! And if you need help being scared I can always show up with horrifying pictures from when we were kids and hold them up when you need to scream!" Riz giggled and I smiled weakly before sighing. I looked at her and bit my lip for a moment, watching her giggle. "Is something wrong?" Riz asked after a moment, noticing my hesitation. "No." I told her before sighing. I hated lying to her and I decided that I would have to tell her eventually anyways. "I just... I might not be going back to California." I finally admitted. Her head whipped around so fast I thought I heard it crack and she looked at me in confusion before her eyes narrowed. "You mean to tell me that you are staying here with that pack of animals instead of going back to California with me? You expect to be able to survive out there? You've only been here for the summer Mina and you've been complaining about how cold it is! It gets even worse in the winter! They probably have people die all the time in that tribe because they don't know how to take care of themselves!" She was shouting and tried to stand up at the end before falling back onto the chair. I got up and helped her get situated again, looking at the ground. "Look... I'm really sorry Riz... I want to go back to Cali with you and all but... I can't bear the thought of being away from Refre. It is a physical ache in me. I can't go back to Cali and leave him behind. I can't be away from him for that long. I need to be with him. He is my soul mate, Riz. My everything... I can't walk away from that." "You're only 18 Mina. You could find love again." She replied coldly before looking away. I stared at her in shock for a moment before hearing the garage door open and close. I sat down as Sky came into the living room and sat down next to me. "Everything okay?" She asked after a minute of tense silence. "Yeah! Everything's fine! I'm just sitting here alone everyday while you three run around with a bunch of fucking animals and don't even think about your sister or best friend!" Riz snapped back. Tristan paused as he walked into the living room and heard this and we all stared at Riz in shock. "Riz..." Tristan started to say before she interrupted. "No! I can't stand it anymore! You are all insane! Wrapped up in the whole lie of 'soul mates' and shit! How do you even know if that's real? They could be lying to you just so they can increase their population or some shit like that! They live in fucking igloos in caves! And you all want to live down there with them? You're going to all die in the first winter! I can't believe how stupid you all are being!" "No!" Sky suddenly interrupted. We all looked at her in confusion before noticing that her attention was on the television. The show we had been watching had been interrupted by the news. It looked like it was just local story about hunting. There was a man that was being interviewed and it looked like he had an injured and tied up polar bear at his feet. Then the camera zoomed in to the face. "No!" Tristan and I repeated right as the phone rang. ''''''''''''''' Nate was sitting down for a chat with Richards when there was a knock at the door. "Come in." Richards called out. "Sorry to interrupt." Jess apologized as she entered. "Charles just called. He's at the front gate." "Alright. Let's go meet him then." Nate nodded and they both headed outside, Jess quickly following them. They got into an SUV and headed for the gate across the bumpy dirt road. Richards parked in front of the gate, noting where some of his betas were on alert in the trees before getting out and approaching the gate. "Charles!" Jess cried out as she ran to the gate ahead of them. Nate watched as the man on the other side stopped in his pacing at the sound of his name. He was a rather tall man and at the moment he looked rather malnourished and like he hadn't slept in a month. Nate could only image what his appetite and ability to sleep would be like though if he lost his mate. Richards opened the gate and Jess went running into the man's arms, bursting into tears. Charles wrapped his arms around her and after a moment began to weep as well. Richards and Nate stood at the gate and let them have their moment. Jess seemed to whisper to the man for a bit before they separated slightly and she turned to the other two men. "Richards, Nate. This is Charles Wesley." Jess introduced. Richards offered his hand and Charles took in hesitantly, seeming to pull himself together a bit more. Nate shook his hand as well, noting that his grip was firm and confident even though he could tell that Charles wasn't. "Why don't we head into the compound and continue discussion in there?" Richards asked, clearly not comfortable with leaving the gate open. Charles nodded and got into his car, Jess following him. "That poor man," Nate sighed as he got into the SUV and Richards started to head back to the main house. "He looks like a train wreck. This must be torture for him." Richards agreed. They both went silent after that, wrapped up in their own thoughts until the pulled up and got out. Charles had stopped behind them and just sat there for a moment until Jess called out to him. Finally he got out and Jess turned to pull him inside before suddenly there was a cry. "Charles!" a voice cried out. Nate turned to see Queen Manu running for Charles. Charles flinched, looking like he was expecting to be attacked by this woman. She surprised them all however by jumping into his arms and bursting into tears. Charles stood in shock for a moment before hugging the woman back and sobbing as well. Several other members of the cat tribe began to collect around them in a big group hug, many of them crying as well. Nate teared up a bit as he watched the tribe mourn their lost princess. "Perhaps we should give them some time." Richards suggested before heading inside. Nate sighed and followed him after a moment. ''''''''''''''' "No! How did they get him?! He's the best hunter of the village!" I cried out as I started to panic. "I have to go to him!" I stood up and started to throw my outside clothes on and rush for the door. Sky grabbed me though as Tristan picked up the phone. I tried to pull away from her, not paying attention to anything around me but the urgent need to get to my mate. "Mina! Listen to me! Calm down! We will get to him in time! He is only injured. They haven't killed him. We can still get to him but you need to calm down! We don't even know where they are right now." "Now we do." Tristan replied as he hung up the phone. "Becky saw the news as well and managed to find out the GPS coordinates. We can find them." "Then what are we waiting for!" I exclaimed as I started to shove on my boots. The other two quickly followed suit and Tristan grabbed the keys from where he had just sat them down. "I hope he dies," came a small, angry voice. I stopped in shock and turned my head to look at Riz. ''''''''''''''' "So you are all werewolves?" Charles asked once Richards had explained everything to him. "Yes." Richards confirmed. Charles was quiet for a moment before nodding. "Alright. I guess I've seen weirder." He shrugged slightly. They were all sitting in Richards' office and Isaac, Kael, Shelly and Eric had joined them. "You know any normal human would probably run screaming from the premises." Nate commented with a chuckle. The rest of them all chuckled as well, even Charles managed a smile. "Well we definitely are not normal." Isaac noted. "Far from it," Eric added. They all nodded in agreement, smiling. "Well how about we get on to business?" Richards inquired. Charles sighed and then nodded. "So the tribe will need some legal help... How do I come in? Just having a lawyer on their side won't help too much. They would need some other legal and political help from the state and federal government as well." Charles commented thoughtfully. "Like senators and the president and such?" Jess asked. "Yes. Some of them may already support them but we need a spokes person... Someone to gather up supporters and organize them to help make a stand for their rights... But who could do that? Who would be willing to?" Charles thought out loud. Everyone looked at him pointedly for a moment before he finally noticed and looked up. "What?" "Isn't it obvious?" Jess grinned. Charles looked confused for a moment before finally understanding. "Me? But I'm just a lawyer!" "You have the schooling to run for office though." Shelly pointed out. "You could start small and work your way up." Eric suggested. "Maybe start just at a city or county level then work up to state." Isaac added in. "Maybe even run for president eventually." Jess said excitedly. Charles seemed a little nervous about all of this but he sat there thinking about it for a little while. "But... I-I couldn't do that... I can't have that kind of power..." He stuttered slightly. Eric suddenly stepped up to him and looked him in the eyes. "I know what you are thinking about. Stop it. You have punished yourself enough. She wouldn't want you to be this way. If anything she would want you to help her people like this. If she could she would be at your side helping you, I know it." Charles buried his face in his hands and started to cry weakly again. The others all hugged him and whispered words of love and encouragement. Nate's heart hurt for the poor man and he noticed that Richards seemed to feel the same way. "O-Okay." Charles said after he managed to calm down. "I... I'll do it. But I'm going to need all the help I can get." "We will do everything we can!" Jess agreed. The other's all nodded, smiling happily now that they had started to plan something finally. They all sat down again and started to talk more in depth on how to help the tribe politically. A little while later they were interrupted by a knock on the door. "Forgive me Alpha but we have caught an intruder." The beta who had knocked reported once he was let in. "An intruder? From another pack?" "No... It's a human sir..." the whole room looked surprised at this. "Oh. Well, bring them in." Richards finally said after a moment. The beta nodded before leaving and coming back a few moments later with a rather annoyed looking woman. They all looked surprised again as they looked her over. She was tall and rather skinny, with blonde curly locks that flowed down her back and sharp green eyes. She crossed her arms, making her full breasts look even bigger and looked at the Alpha with a scowl. As Nate looked at her he realized what Jess and Richards realized almost right away. She was the woman from the drawing one of the halflings did of his mate. "Hello Miss..." Richards inquired. "Jensen. Debra Jensen." She replied curtly. "Alright Miss Jensen. Why don't you tell me why you are trespassing on my property?" "I heard you were the one to take the halflings from our lab. I've come to make sure he- they are alright." Miss Jensen stumbled a bit at the end, making most of those in the room grin. "He?" Richards asked as he tried to hide a grin. "I meant they," the woman snapped slightly. Richards chuckled then before turning to Jess. "Would you mind going out into the hall and calming down the situation out there? Bring in the cause when you are done." Jess nodded, a little confused but handed Losy to Shelly and then left the room. Richards than turned back to Miss Jensen with a smile. "You can't get him out of your head can you?" he started, making her look at him with wide eyes. "You can't stop worrying about him. Can't stop thinking that maybe he'll get hurt or killed. You dream about him, you find yourself daydreaming about him and no one else will do. Does this sound about right?" Miss Jensen stared at him in shock for a moment before she seemed to pull herself together. It looked like she was just about to try to make some sort of intelligent remark when suddenly the door opened and Jess walked back in with one of the halflings in tow. He looked at the woman and cried out something in his language before sweeping her up into his arms and kissing her. Miss Jensen didn't seem to know what to do for a moment but then just gave in and kissed her mate back. Nate chuckled as the rest smiled and chuckled as well before one of Richards betas peeked in and interrupted the scene. "I'm sorry Alpha but there is something you and Alpha Rutheford should see." Richards nodded and followed his beta into the security room with Nate quick on his heels. "This is about a day old." The beta said before playing a news report from Nate's territory. At first it seemed like it was a hunting report but then they zoomed in on the face of what looked like a polar bear. "No! Damn it!" Nate cursed before turning to his betas that were in the room. "Dean, get the plane up and running. We need to get back home yesterday." "Yes Alpha." Dean nodded before running off to do so. Richards was watching the rest of the report and sighed. "Watch the rest of this on your way home," he instructed as he handed a copy to Nate. "It was good to have you here Nate." Nate nodded before going to gather up the rest of his betas and thetas and tell them to get ready to go. A couple of Richards Omegas seemed to have realized what was going on and started to pack all of their stuff for them and board it onto the plane. "Are you leaving?" Jess inquired as she approached him with the other humans trailing behind. "Yes. There was a news report in my territory that I need to address. It seems humans, werewolves and cat people aren't the only intelligent life on the planet." Nate tried to smile, worry clouding it a bit. He wanted to get on the plane now and be there already to deal with the problem. "What do you mean?" Shelly asked with a look of confusion. "I'm sure Richards with show you the report if you ask. I have to get ready to go. Thank you all for your help though. You are amazing people and I'm glad to have met you." Nate smiled genuinely this time. He shook their hands and gave them all hugs before running off to finish boarding everything and everyone and soon they were in the air. ''''''''''''''' I stood there in shock, my mind not believing what my ears had just heard. That Riz would say something so hurtful... So awful... Smack! I'm not sure who was more shocked now; Riz for being slapped or me for being the one to do so. The shocked suddenly passed and was replaced by cold, hard anger as I looked down at her and realized that she had meant what she said. "You are no longer my friend and this is the last time I will ever speak to you again. And don't think this is about me choosing some boy over you. This is about the fact that when you said that about another living being, you meant it. That makes you cruel. I will not have cruel people in my life." I turned away from Riz then and headed for the garage, never looking back. I got into Tristan's truck and noticed that Sky and Tristan were right behind me. They slipped in as well and he started the car before pulling out and heading for were ever they had my mate. We're coming my love. I'll be there soon. Two Worlds: Land of Ice Ch. 09 Tristan drove as fast as he could on the slippery roads as we headed towards the news site. I felt like we were going in slow motion though and every second seemed to increase my worry for my mate. I couldn't get the image of him tied up and hurt out of my head and it made me want to cry. Finally we got to the area right as a few government vehicles arrived as well. I burst out of the car, not caring about anything else but getting to my mate as I ran past everyone and ignored any yells of protest. "Refre!" I screamed as I finally saw him, still tied up and on the floor. I shoved past the police officers that tried to stop me and rushed to my mate, tears clouding my vision as I knelt down beside him. "Oh Refre!" I cried as I hugged him close and started to softly speak a little in his language. He stirred a bit and opened his eyes weakly to look at me. I smiled at him before I suddenly felt someone grabbing me and trying to pull me away. "No! Leave him alone! He won't hurt anyone!" I screamed as the police officers pulled me away from him. I didn't listen to anything they were saying. Nothing mattered except getting to my mate and making sure he was okay. I screamed and kicked at the man that was holding me back as I saw some of the government agents approach my mate with a syringe. Refre started to struggle with his binds more, calling out for me. "No! Please! Please don't do this!" I screamed out as I kicked harder and struggled with all my might. It didn't matter though. They didn't listen to me and just stabbed him with the needle. I heard him cry out in pain before seeing him go limp. I continued to fight the police officer as tears streamed down my cheeks and soon I was nothing but a sobbing mess as I watched them drag my mate away. ''''''''''''''' Nate stepped out of the plane and was greeted automatically by his second and his mate. He pulled his mate close and gave her a passionate kiss before turning back to business. "We did everything you asked. They have the bear halfling locked away in the nearest military base and they dragged the four humans involved along with them. The humans are being kept for questioning and it seems that the base is going to be sending out soldiers to search the nearby caves soon." Wesley informed him as they walked up to the main house. "I pulled out every contact and favor due that I could and managed to get them to let the humans into our care. They will be here in about an hour but I could not get them to release the halfling to us." Rachel took up the report. Nate nodded and sighed at this. "Alright. Prepare some rooms for them and a good hot meal." He told Wesley, who nodded and ran off to do so. He turned back to his wife and pulled her in for another passionate kiss. "Times are going to get tough, aren't they?" Rachel sighed when they broke the kiss. "I'm afraid so love. We may be revealing our secret to the world soon. And there may be more creatures than even just the cats and bears. If they have managed to stay untouched by humanity for so long, who knows what else could be in the same situation? All the government officials are going to start looking in their caves, their mountains, their jungles for anything like them..." Nate shook his head and ran his fingers through his hair. "Things are definitely going to be tough, love. Tougher than we ever imagined." ''''''''''''''' I looked at the screen in shock as the news report finished. I wasn't sure what to think at that moment. You think with the shock of finding a species first hand and then finding out about werewolves that nothing else would shock me. But I guess I hadn't thought that there would be more halfling species like my tribe. "Oh my..." Shelly finally said, breaking the silence that had followed the report. "Do you realize what this means?" Eric practically whispered before turning to all of us. "There could be more halfling species out there. Think of all the caves left unexplored. All the potential things that could be living down there..." "And I've exposed them all..." Charles whispered into his hands. I turned to him and shook my head. "No Charles. Don't blame yourself for this. You didn't know. It's not your fault for how badly the human race has reacted to other species." I told him while adjusting Losy in my arms. "Yes it is..." He chocked before sitting there for a moment and then looking up at me with a determined expression. "But I'm going to make it right. I will fight every moment of my life, with every breath in my body for their rights. I will do everything I can to make sure every single one of those species I have exposed is safe and has the same rights as any other human being. Unari would have wanted that." I wiped away a tear that had leaked over a bit and smiled weakly at Charles. He smiled weakly back as Isaac stood up. "And we'll be with you every step of the way," he added with a smile. Eric and Shelly stood up as well, offering the same thing and Kael smiled at me before nodding at Charles. "We will do whatever it takes." I agreed, trying not to cry as we all pledge to risk everything for our tribe and any other that was to pop up. ''''''''''''''' "How are we going to protect them? Look at what happened to the other species! We can't let that happen to the flock!" "I know. But what can we do? If the government gets involved we can't very well protect them from an army!" "We could move them somewhere maybe! Get them out of those caves." "And where would we put them? There is no where we could hide them. We just have to hope for the best and pray they aren't found." ''''''''''''''' "He has your eyes." She said as she looked down at her newborn son. "Yes. He's like your kind though. No fur or tail." "That's true. Does that make you unhappy?" "No. As long as he is healthy I am happy." She smiled as she looked up at her mate and pulled him close by his mane. She kissed his lips passionately before returning her attention to her son. Her worries came back again as she thought about how she had been gone for over a year. Her parents will have started to worry. She was only supposed to be gone a few months. "Can you visit parents?" her mate asked, reading in on her thoughts. "No. They live far from here my mate. I am not from this land. I worry they may come to try and find us though." "That a bad thing?" "It could be..." She thought out loud, worry in her voice. ''''''''''''''' "Do you lay eggs when you have babies?" he asked her as they walked through the forest. "Eggs?" she laughed, making him smile as it filled him with joy. "Why would we lay eggs?" "Well lizards usually do..." he tried to explain to her with a shrug. "We are not these lizards you think of my mate. We don't lay eggs and we don't shed skin like them." "They look like you though." He told her before noticing his brother running at them. He stopped and panted a bit, looking out of breath. "There's... there's news from town brother. The village just got it." "What news?" "They found a new species. A species half human, half animal like them! They are going to start searching for others!" "What?" his eyes went wide at this news and he suddenly began to fear for his mate and her kind. ''''''''''''''' It had been over 24 hours since they had dragged us in here for questioning. The first few hours I had screamed and yelled at them to let me see Refree. The longer they didn't let me, the more frantic I became until Sky finally managed to get me to snap out of it. After that I had sat down at this spot and haven't moved since. They had offered us snacks but none of us could eat at this point. Sky had managed to fall asleep about an hour or two ago and was resting on Tristan, who looked like he was about to pass out as well. Becky obviously was along the same boat as me and couldn't even think about sleeping. I was sick of answering questions and waiting around. I wanted my mate and I wanted to go back to the village and live in peace. Suddenly the door slammed open, startling Sky and Tristan awake. An agent walked in with a few soldiers and came straight over to us. The soldiers all handcuffed us while the agent seemed to be explaining what was going on. "We are transporting you to another facility at this time for more questioning." I practically growled at this. "And what about my mate?" I hissed at the agent. "The creature will be staying here." The agent stated simply before walking out the door, the soldiers pushing us to follow. We were forced into the back of some van and started to drive away from that base. I hung my head as tears slipped down my cheeks as we drove further and further away from my mate. It felt like we were sitting in that van for hours in silence before we finally stopped. I didn't even really notice until suddenly the side door opened and a man was motioning to us to get out. I followed the others, still not paying attention to much as we walked across the snow and through a gate to another van. I still didn't pay much attention to anything until there was suddenly a familiar pair of hands unlocking my handcuffs. I looked up to see Sky smiling at me as she took them off and then helped Becky out of hers. I realized I had missed something and started to pay attention. "I'm Nate and this is my second in command, Wesley. We just have a few questions for you and then we will do whatever we can to help you protect the halflings you found." The man who was driving told us. "Why do you want to help us protect them?" Tristan asked suspiciously. "We will show you when we get to the main house." "You probably wouldn't believe us if we told you," the other man, Wesley added with a chuckle. "What of my mate?" I cut in, not really caring about anything else. "We are working on it. However, we have a team of trucks ready to help you evacuate the caves. We figured if you can show us where they are and help us we can get them out of there before anyone else finds them and tries to hurt them." Nate explained, looking back at me sympathetically. As if he could possibly know what I'm going through. I thought as I looked down. I was glad we could save the others but I knew I wouldn't be able to rest until I could see my mate again. We pulled up in front of a large cabin looking building that was surrounded by other good size cabins. It didn't look like much of a military base, but more like a getaway resort. It had a rather homey feel as I looked at it and saw people running around outside. "What are children doing at a military base?" I heard Becky ask as we got out and headed towards the main cabin. "That's just our cover." Wesley winked at her. "This is actually our home." "Come into my office and I'll explain things better," Nate insisted while holding open the door to the cabin for us. We followed him inside and to a well furnished office where we all sat down around the large desk. "Alright. What's going on? You say you want to help the village. Why? What do you have to gain from it?" Tristan cut straight to the chase before Nate could even open his mouth. Nate and Wesley chuckled before Nate sat forward more. "We do want to help the village for many different reasons. We do not think the humans will treat them very well and want to protect them from harm or extinction. One of our reasons is because we believe every life is sacred. Another is that we believe everyone should be treated equally. But I would say that our main reason is because they are just like our ancestors." We all looked at him in shock for a moment before Becky snapped us out of it. "What do you mean? You look completely human to me." "Yes. I suppose we do, don't we? Wesley? Why don't you show them this time?" Nate requested of his second in command. "Yes Alpha," the man nodded before starting to take off his clothes. We all looked at him in confusion, wondering what the hell was going on before suddenly the man before us began to change. Fur sprouted out of his skin as his bones seemed to reshape themselves and he howled out as he landed on for legs. "W-w-werewolves?" Tristan stuttered as we all stood up in surprise. I stumbled slightly and my vision became blurred before it started to get dark and I couldn't remember anything else. ''''''''''''''' "Mina. Mina." "Mmm... Five more minutes..." "Mina wake up." Finally the voice began to register and I realized that it wasn't my mom trying to wake me up for school. I opened my eyes and looked around in confusion before remembering where I was. "Are you okay?" Sky asked me as I looked up and saw her, Becky and Tristan all looking down at me. I sat up slowly as Nate kneeled down to hand me a glass of water. I took in gratefully and took a few sips before setting it aside. "Sorry about that. I don't know what happened." I apologized, blushing a bit. "I understand. It's quite a shock and I'm sure you didn't sleep much last night." Nate assured me. "We haven't eaten much either, which is not good for any of us. Especially you Sky. You should be eating a lot more." Becky commented with a pointed look at Sky. Wesley stood up then and headed for the door. "I'll go check if the food is ready for you." He told us as he closed the door. "Here," Nate offered, holding out his hand to help me up. I sat back down in my chair as the others followed my example. "So. Werewolves. That's... Interesting." I noted. "Yes. Our kind looked much like the other halflings before we started to mate with humans and evolved to shift. It's beginning with the cat halflings already. Jess has had a child that can change into a panther." We looked at him in shock before all turning at the same time to look at Sky. "What?" She blushed, looking a bit confused. "They didn't have fur... They didn't look like the bears..." Becky stated in wonder. "Wait... Are you saying that my babies may be able to shift too?" "You're pregnant?" Nate interrupted slightly. "Yes. About seven months now." "And it's from one of the bear halflings?" "Yes. My mate is still in the village in the caves. He is probably worried about me... I told him I would visit today." There was a knock on the door that cut off any response before a beautiful woman walked in with a two trays of food. She smiled at us all while setting the trays on the table and then going over to Nate and kissing him lovingly. I looked away, longing to be able to do that with my mate again. "Everyone, this is my mate Rachel." Nate announced. "You have mates as well? Do you find them by smell like the bears do?" Becky asked. "Yes. We do. However we form the mating bond by a bite during sex and it doesn't have to be the first time." Rachel explained. Becky nodded, clearly fascinated by this. "Now why don't you four eat up and once you are done we can start the mission to get your village safe." Nate smiled as he motioned to the food in front of us. I looked at it and sighed as I realized that I should probably eat something if I wanted to be any help. ''''''''''''''' I bit my lip as a whole long line of vans drove towards the entrance to the caves. I hoped that a news crew or branch of the military wasn't following since we stood out rather easily. We were at the front of this line, with one of what Nate called his "betas" driving and Nate himself sitting in the passenger seat. Becky, Sky and I were in the backseat with Sky directing the way. Tristan decided to let us be in this car together and had gotten into the van behind us instead. "Stop there!" Sky called out when we got close to the entrance, having gone off road to get as close as possible. We pulled up as close to the entrance as we could and the rest of the vans surrounded it. We quickly got out and Nate started commanding everyone to get ready. Sky, Becky, Tristan, Nate, the beta named Al and I were all going to go into the caves while the rest stayed out until we were able to explain everything. Sky, Becky and I quickly went to the back where there were some sheets we had grabbed before leaving. Traditionally the women weren't meant to leave their huts but in this case they would have to. We had decided to grab the sheets to cover any of the woman who wanted to keep as close to tradition as possible. "Alright. Are we ready?" Nate asked as we finished pulling out all them all out. We nodded and Sky led the way into the caves. We were mostly silent on our way towards the village and about halfway down we heard a growl and a patrol from King Rau's village came out of one of the tunnels. Sky paused and started to speak to him too quickly for me to follow very well. Her voice sounded urgent though and the patrol nodded after a moment and turned and left. "Wow..." Al said when they left. I looked back to see Nate and him both grinning. "This is so cool." Sky chuckled before continuing down towards our village. When we got there Nate and Al both stopped in amazement. "It's huge down here! It's a wonder they haven't been discovered before." Al commented. Nate nodded and then we all headed for the village. I almost expected to see Refre there but then remembered what had happened and almost started crying. I forced it back though so I could concentrate on helping the rest of the villagers. Faraf came running towards us the moment he saw us and scooped up Sky right away. They spoke urgently to each other for a few moments before he sat her down and nodded at the rest of us. "Come. We must speak with the Queen and King." Sky told us and we all headed into the village and towards their igloo. We stepped inside and Sky greeted them before introducing Nate and Al and explaining the situation. I didn't pay much attention to what was being said but instead was wondering about my mate. I had to be with him soon. It was driving me crazy to be away from him and we hadn't even mated yet. "Would you mind showing them what you are?" Sky asked Nate, interrupting my train of thought. Nate nodded and started to strip. We moved away from him the best we could as he started to shift. When he was done I noticed that he was a lot bigger than any of the others I had seen and I wondered if that came with being an Alpha. I looked around the igloo and noticed the look of shock on everyone's face as Nate changed back and got dressed. I hoped they would listen to what Sky was saying and would leave this place before anyone else came. I didn't want them all to end up like Refre... "They've agreed to the plan." Sky told us after a few more minutes of discussion. We all seemed to sigh with relief at that and the King stood up and led us all out to announce it to the village. As soon as he did the village cried out in disagreement but it was obvious that the Kings decision was final. He spoke a bit more to the village and I could see that they finally understood the reasons. Mothers started to hold their children closer and mate looked at each other worriedly. "He's dividing up duties now. We will have a few other women helping us." Sky whispered to Becky and me. "Good. And once we get this village out we'll have to go to the other village." Becky said, gripping the sheets a bit tighter. It was obvious that she was worried about her mate and I looked down as I continued to worry more and more about my own. "They might be already getting ready to move." Sky replied. "I gave the patrol a message to tell King Rau to get the village to pack up their things." "Hopefully they will listen and be almost ready by the time we are there." Nate slipped in. Sky nodded and then motioned for us to follow here. She gave Nate, Al and Tristan instructions on what they were to do before turning to us girls and leading us to the other woman that would be helping us. We went to every igloo and made sure we found all the unmated females. We had to explain briefly what was going on and then wrap each of them in the sheets, covering them as much as we could. Finally we managed to gather all the unmated females and watched as they all hesitantly took their first steps outside since they had been about five. Two Worlds: Land of Ice Ch. 09 "Are we almost ready?" Becky asked as we were gathering the woman together. "Looks like only a few more things and we'll be on our way." We waited only a few more minutes before the King ordered everyone into a formation with the women and children in the middle and the men around them. Nate, Al, Becky and I led the way through the tunnels and up to the surface. The wolves were all waiting there and had the cars all open for us. Sky came up front and turned to the village to explain a bit more to them. I could tell that many of the villagers were scared and unsure, but Sky seemed to help ease their fears a bit. After a few more minutes she managed to get them all to get in the vans. "I'm going to head for the other village now," Becky stated as she turned back to the tunnels. "I'll go with you," I told her as we started walking that way. "Wait up! I'll come too." Al called out, catching up to us quickly. "You know I've never felt short before. Usually us wolves tower over everyone." We all chuckled at that as Becky led the way towards the other village. When we got there the village was already busy packing up and Becky sighed in relief before running off towards King Rau's igloo. I turned to Al, only to find he wasn't there and was instead sniffing around the entrance to one of the igloos. "What are you doing?" I asked with my arms crossed. We had made it very clear in the last village that they were not allowed into any of the igloos without permission from the head of the family. "My mate is in there." Al replied with a huge grin. "What? Really?" "Yes. Can I go see her?" he wouldn't stop looking at the entrance and looked like he wanted nothing more than to run inside. I smiled weakly, knowing the feeling. "You have to ask the head of the family to formally meet her." I explained. "And I honestly don't know how to do it. You will have to ask Sky for the translation and such." "Oh..." He was quiet for a moment before sitting down at the side of the entrance and giving a slightly cocky grin. "I will wait here for her then." I chuckled before going to find Becky. She was of course by King Rau's side and I gently pulled her away when I saw Sky and Nate approaching. Sky explained everything to King Rau and the village before they all went back to packing. Sky grabbed us and started to gather up the unmated women as we had before. When we got to the igloo that Al was sitting outside of Sky stopped and smiled at him. "You want to meet her then?" "Yes please!" he said while jumping up. Sky chuckled before going to find the head of that family and introduced Al to him. She taught him how to formally ask to meet his mate and he spoke it almost perfectly. "They have two unmated females living with them right now. They are both sisters and he wants to know which one it is." "The one that smells like summer," Al answered automatically. Sky chuckled before telling this to the head of the family. "He knows which one you mean now and says her name is Roe. He says he will be glad to introduce you." We followed the head of the family back to his igloo and waited to be invited in. When we finally were, we found the head of the family sitting next to a girl that was maybe only 14 years old. Al smiled at her and she grinned back, giggling slightly. "She's young..." Becky whispered. "I'll wait until she's 18 to mate with her. I've waited 46 years, I can wait a few more." Al responded before going over to Roe and kneeling down, taking her hand and kissing it lightly. She giggled and blushed before speaking to him in her tongue. "She said that it's very nice to finally meet you." Sky translated. "I completely agree." Al grinned. "We should get the rest of the unmated women ready to go and get out of here before an army comes." Becky said. We nodded in agreement before heading for the door. "Is it alright if I stay here for now?" Al asked. Sky smiled and asked the head of the family before nodding. Finally we got all the women ready and King Rau got the village into formation. We headed out of the village with Becky, King Rau, Nate, Sky and I leading the way. We got up there and one of the wolves came running right over to us. "A scout spotted some government vans approaching. They'll be in view soon." "Alright. We need to move as fast as possible. Sky, if you could please do whatever you can to get these villagers in the rest of the vans I'm going to get some of my men to get the first village out of here." Nate instructed. Sky nodded and turned to the village to speak to them while Nate went off to talk to the wolves. Becky and I did the best we could to help Sky and finally we started to get the other village into the vans. The first vans started to leave shortly after and I started to fear that maybe we wouldn't get out in time. "The vans are in view! Get them in quickly!" Nate called out after we managed to get about half the village into the remaining vans. Sky turned to the rest of the village and spoke urgently to them. Becky and King Rau started to help them in more, moving them a bit faster. As soon as we filled up a van it would leave. We finally got the last villagers in and quickly hoped in, Nate taking the wheel. "Hold on!" He told us as he sped out of there. The government vans pulled up right then and Nate quickly swerved around them and sped off. "Will they follow us?" Sky asked worriedly. "They might. We are going the long way around just in case." "But we got them all out of there... They're all going to be okay..." Becky stated hopefully, leaning into her mate. "We've done all we can. We'll see what happens from here." Nate sighed. I looked back at the villagers and thought of my mate. I prayed that somehow we could save him too but for now I had done all I could to save his kind. I had hope as well that things will turn out okay but I knew things would be hard for awhile. I was willing to do whatever it was to protect this species though, and I knew that I had friends that felt exactly the same. Somehow we would bring these two worlds together, no matter what it took. End of Two Worlds: Land of Ice Now I do have a third part planned however it may take a bit to come out. I have several other projects I'm working on (including Madam Vixen's Mad Mansion which I will be working super hard on!) so I may be submitting a few other things before I even start working on the third part. But there is your wrap up for now and I hope you have enjoyed the ride!
