His blue eyes looked up and met the warm honey gaze of his elder sister who stood at the head of the stairs. Katrina. Her hair was in a messy bun and her fangs gleamed. She had always looked like a warrior princess to him. She had help raise him, had given him more love and affection than was normal for most vampires of their status. "You should have told me sooner!" He hissed. His fists balled at his sides. Katrina looked down at the breathtaking face of her younger brother. The pink scar running from his left cheek and slipping down to his jaw line almost completely faded into his pale skin. The small piercing over his eyebrow made him look like a badass. He stood tall and proud, his 6 foot something height would tower over her if she were on even ground. She lifted her eyes and gazed out into the distance. Her energy pulsed feeling the emotions in the air, she could taste them against her skin, feel them pushing against her the harder she fought to ignore them. His were particularly pissed on this day. After all, they'd finally told her brothers the truth about her birthright. "Telling you sooner would have accomplished what? There is nothing you can do about it, Joshua." Her tone was subdued. Almost numb. Joshua felt his vampire rattle inside his mind, furious at her almost nonchalant attitude. Katrina had come back home a month ago with the same attitude. Some of the usual light in her eyes was dimmed. She wouldn't speak on what had transpired while she was with the wolves, no matter how much he nagged. She was tight lipped about the whole thing, and then this— this maiden bullshit. Their parents had sat all three of them down last night and explained their sisters', for lack of a better word, situation. Their parents had retired to their wing of their Long Island estate, and had spent the time in seclusion, closing their family bond for the last two months. His elder brother spend his time before the large fireplace in the main room and watched the flames dance. He sat in self-imposed numbness. Only infuriating Joshua even more. His whole family acted as if it didn't matter, as if she was already—- No. "You're just giving up? There's still time, you can still find a mate!" Joshua's iris bled into a bright red at her quiet, somber expression. The fury and grief over his sister's fate edged on the monster's protective instincts. Worse yet, he couldn't believe she would just sit back and give up her whole life. That she and the rest of their family would do nothing! He moved, was above her in seconds, striking out with his leg and throwing her body out, into the second floor corridor. Katrina flipped, landed on her feet as her body slid backwards from his force. She let out a sigh. Katrina supposed she was partially to blame for his behavior. He took a little after her own dramatic outbursts, and like all male species, didn't handle emotion very well. They usually sparred when things got too heated for them to handle, it's how they processed emotions. Katrina dodged as his talons reached her. She danced around him, her golden gaze tracking his every movement. He was beautiful in his fury. His long brown hair flew behind him, almost dancing as their fast movements continued. It irritated him that she wasn't even defending herself, simply avoiding him. "Say something!" He hissed. She could hear the fury in his tone, the frustration. His hands gripped her leg and a second later her body was flying through the air. Katrina's body crash landed painfully onto a decorative art piece. 'Asshole!' She cursed, on her feet a second later, brushing off the dust from her practical black tee. She looked down nostalgically at the statue she'd brought back from Rome. Her eyes narrowed dangerously as her brother approached. She blocked his attacks, shifting her weight on the balls of her feet to stay out of reach. She twirled around him, stood behind him a second before he shifted in her direction, 'too slow.' she planted a foot on his chest and his body flew backwards violently. An explosion rocked the entire second floor as the row of windows blew out from the aftershock. "I won't...This is my only choice." Katrina felt the adrenaline in her body. Her blood pumped and the darkness that lived inside her shifted, ready to play. She strained her neck, watching him get to his feet and cracking his knuckles. "Coward!" Joshua hissed, watched his sister get into a defensive stance, beckoning him to come at her. Joshua's fangs lengthened. He focused his energy to strengthen the muscles in his body, to aid him in speed. Katrina was well versed in war, but she couldn't outmatch the body of a male of his caliber. It wouldn't be easy, but fighting her was the only way to get a reaction from her prissy, numb attitude. Whatever she was keeping inside was drowning her and he couldn't bear to watch his sister that way. Katrina needed an outlet even if she didn't know it. And so it went for months. Their parents secluded to one wing of the estate. While Joshua and Katrina destroyed most of the other wing. The eldest Morvant brother, Katrok sat before the fire, his eyes on the spinning, amber liquid in his glass. His mind moving paces ahead as he heard Joshua and Katrina's conversation and following after the sounds of their havoc on their winter home. Katrok let out a breath, his green blue eyes swirled with a mixture of red as his vampire shifted to the forefront of his mind. He'd always suspected but he'd denied it for years, unwilling to believe she'd have to take up ranks with those—- with those creatures. Katrok's gaze moved towards the ruckus in their home and let out a resigned sigh. **** Luciano's body materialized on soft grass on an acre of the Morvant Manor. He stood at the edge of a lake owned by the family. He looked up at the 60,000 square-foot French chateaux-inspired limestone estate as he ran towards it. The familiar place brought up nostalgic feelings in his chest. He'd spent many happy winters here with Katrina. 'Katrina.' He let out a frustrated sigh as he jumped and landed on a towering arch of the estate. She'd spent four months after they'd returned from what he was calling the Occurrence avoiding him. He understood that she'd been affected by grief after loosing the female hybrid, even he could feel the tight lingering feelings of grief, but enough was enough. This was the longest they'd gone without speaking or seeing each other and he was tired of it. He wanted his best friend back. He wouldn't admit it out lout, but he'd spent nights thinking of her mouth and the arch of her neck and her hands. Her dainty, golden skinned hands made his mouth water. He ached to see her face, whether flustered in anger or joy, he craved having her presence near by and it's soothing effect on his beast. She had a way of calming him when he got to his darkest. Her gentle, no-nonsense ball busting attitude always helped him keep his head straight. He had burst into laughter while thinking back on the time he'd caught her stuffing her face in the pantry in preparation of her family's annual parties. He'd spent days just thinking back on all the craziness she brought into his life and he hated it. Hated feeling her absence in the silence of his New York condo. She was everywhere and yet nowhere at all. Luciano ran a hand through his long locks. His hair was longer than he'd had it in a while, he couldn't bring himself to cut it. Katrina would always do it for him when it got too untamed. He jumped upwards moving swiftly across their high rooftop and towards the front of the mansion. His gaze moved to one of the upper rooms on the west wing and caught the shadow of what, he assumed, must be her parents. He flipped backwards and landed in the driveway, his body rigid as he took in the eerie silence of the estate, followed by the sounds of destruction inside the mansion. His eyes narrowed as he stomped his way to the large double entry doors with every intention of knocking the house down to figure out what was happening, only for it to crack open before his hand hit the door. From the corner of his eye he glanced at Katrok's blue-green eyes as he moved his gaze over the entire foyer. He let out a breath as he caught the chunk missing from the grand double staircase, the shattered glass and splintered marble that laid on the floor. "Luciano." "Katrok." Their greeting was short and clipped. Although they'd been great friends for years, that's just how they interacted. Katrok and Luciano had both been born in the same year, just months apart from each other. Katrok was only a thread younger than him, and once they'd been close friends...The males stood before each other, making a quick survey of the other. Luciano clasped a hand to his chest and gave the male a courtesy bow in greeting, which Katrok replicated. The silence was filled by a soft explosion that blew out what he assumed was a wall upstairs. "What happened this time?" Luciano asked on a sigh. He heard them thrashing and moving somewhere above, Joshua's grunts were the loudest. 'She must really be laying it on thick, this time.' "I will go summon her. Wait here." Katrok brushed off his question easily and coldly. His posture was tense and his expression stoic. Luciano nodded and watched the man disappear around a sharp turn on the second floor. Luciano took a moment to look at what he recalled being a beautiful home, now laying in ruins for the most part. The flickering fire in the main rooms irked his curiosity, Katrok only ever started a fire when he was deep in thought. 'What the hell is happening here?' Luciano let his senses spread, and wondered why the head of the Morvant family had still not come down to greet him. It was customary of course. 'Of course, you showed up unannounced 'cause you can't keep your filthy hands off their daughter,' he thought dryly. Hearing the hushed whispers above and sensing movement a second before Katrina's smiling face was coming down the stairs. 'Finally.' Katrina moved gracefully towards him, her hips swinging from side to side effortlessly. She wore loose black cameos and a blank tank top. Her hair was tight up in a messy bun with loose strands all around face. Blood smeared the top half of her forehead and her hand was drenched in blood. He realized that she was the only female who didn't bother dressing up to catch his attention and yet he was drawn in like a moth to a flame. "Luciano. This is— a surprise." Katrina's melodic voice soothed his beast, set him in a daze. He gave her his biggest smile, noticing the small hitch in her breath, and wondered how he had never noticed her reactions to his smile. It took him a second to realize she'd spoken something and expected a reply. He swallowed and looked around. "What happened this time?" Luciano asked her, his eyes moving over the wreckage in the front room. Katrina gave him a sheepish smile, not really answering his question, and his eyes narrowed. Something in her eyes was off, they were shut off and empty. "What did that baboon say this time?" There was an edge to his tone that made Katrina smile sweetly as she walked past him. "Come. Let's take a walk." Katrina snuck a glance in Luciano's direction. His hair was long, curling at the ends against the back of his neck. She shivered as heat rose inside her. She'd always found his long hair irresistible, more so than usual with males. She'd demanded he cut it just so she could have some semblance of control around him. 'God. He makes this hard, doesn't he. But he is gorgeous to look at.' "So, what brings you here? Does the Elder require my assistance?" She questioned, unsure why he'd just shown up at her home. He usually never stopped by unless invited, or if they'd planned something in advance. She was quite taken aback by his casual demeanor. He shook his head, "I was in the neighborhood, thought I'd see why you've been avoiding me these past few months" Luciano whispered against her ear and paced to a fallen tree trunk. He laughed as she choked slightly at his words. She looked around, hadn't even noticed they'd made it this far in silence. She frowned at his teasing, forcing her body to calm down. "I've been busy, Luciano. I'm sure you've got plenty to keep you company." Katrina spoke, reaching up to loosen her hair. She let the short locks move in the breeze and sighed at the feeling. It'd been in a bun for too long. She and her younger brother had gone at it for longer than was proper. It'd been at least two months of their constant dueling, cooped up in their home. Most of the walls of the second and third floor of the East wing were decimated, literally totaled. Joshua had trouble reigning in his fury, and she had well, she had issues she only had a month to sort. She looked up at Luciano's smoldering grey eyes, and felt a soft blush cross her expression. She moved her gaze to one of the hills in the distance. "Now you know you're my favorite cookie on this side of the pond." He tsk'd as he teased her. She fought to show a smile instead of the crushing pain that blossomed in her chest. His childhood nickname for her reminded her of what she was to him. She fought for breath and strength just to act normal. 'God dammit! I've been doing it close to 200 years, you'd think I'd get better at it.' Katrina took a moment to enjoy the silence, letting his scent envelop her in it's warmth. She'd missed his presence over the past few months, but their impending separation would be easier if she distanced herself from him now. "Have you heard any news on the O'Faolain Alpha?" Her voice was soft. When she thought back on the O'Faolain and the grief he must be experienced her heart ached. Ached in ways she didn't know could ache, for someone she barely knew. No. That wasn't right. Katrina knew and understood Stefani maybe a little more than anyone else might have. They were kindred spirits, both born to a destiny neither wanted. Stefani's had led to her death, while Katrina's would lead to an empty place. She could still hear the laughter they'd shared in the Great Hall's quarters. The small smile Stefani had given Katrina when she learned to bring out her teeth on purpose. The curvy hybrid had taken it all in stride, she'd been brave and courageous. Katrina would honor her memory. Luciano tensed slightly, his mind moving over to the few short words he'd spoken with his brother, and let out a sigh. Both in their own thoughts before he spoke, "Last I heard, he's been staying up in a cabin up north, dealing with— We'll he's needed the distance from his pack. My brother is scheduled to come back for the Centennial Ball next month. I'm sure he'll let us know how he's doing then..." Luciano looked down at Katrina. Her hair floated widely around her face as the wind caressed her and he found himself jealous of the wind, who got to touch her so freely. His hands balled into fists while he calmed the surge of heat that brushed him. She was in deep thought, her bottom lip between her teeth, the gleaming sharp fang caught his attention and immediately he was transported to that night. The memory of her delicate fangs piercing the vein at his throat assaulted him and almost brought him to his knees. He shuddered and forced himself to step away from that and come back to the present. He felt sweat form over his forehead, and he swallowed hard, glad that she was too deep in thought to notice. "I'm taking a trip to Morocco in a couple months. The council asked me for some freelance recon. I thought you might want to tag along. There's this quaint little place that sells the most wicked blades there. It's about time we extend that collection of yours, what do you say, cookie?" Katrina cringed inwardly at the nickname but gave him a smile nonetheless. "Let me think about it..." She gave him such a wide smile he felt his chest constrict painfully and he nodded. Katrina frowned, unsure of what that strange feeling she was getting from him was. Empath abilities or no, he'd always been the one person she couldn't get a read on, his emotional pathway had always been locked to her. 'Maybe that's for the best.' "How are you doing? Are you well? Your hair has gotten longer." She reached up and brushed her fingers over the long locks of his blonde hair, her fingertips tingled at the brush of skin contact. Luciano's cheeks turned a slight pink, bringing a wider smile to her face. He didn't speak but moved his hand to cup hers, wrapping her fingers in his larger ones, stepping a foot closer to her. Close enough to feel her warm breath. He gave her a tight nod. A couple months ago with everything that had happened, it taken a toll on all those involved, him included. He still didn't understand his reaction, but he'd felt off for weeks after what he'd seen. That type of untapped power and the selfless act of sacrifice left a sour taste in his mouth. Something strange had been nagging at the back of his mind ever since, something forgotten. Katrina held her breath. Anyone walking by would have to wonder on the status of their relationship, as close as they were. Maybe closer than was proper for vampires of their stature. They were, after all, purebreds. Katrina severed their connection, looking away and stepping away from him, needing the distance. She swallowed hard. "You haven't been around to cut it." He whispered and for a second, something warm crossed his expression, something Katrina was sure she'd imagined. She shook her head. "You should leave it. It looks— It looks good on you." He laughed and the world was set on fire. Everything seemed brighter when he laughed. His joy was infectious, delicious like honey. She'd been selfish. Small as it was, she'd spent so many of her years simply needing to be around him, in whatever way she could. She'd spent nights waiting around until he was done with his women, with his parties and his adventures, and waited hand and foot for any attention he might shower her with. She'd listened closely to his escapes, to his sins and to his accomplishments in their society. She'd even chased off some of the bolder females when they got clingy. Furthermore, Katrina was no stranger to their venom, she had to grow thick skin just to be around him. After all it was no secret how their society saw her. She'd heard the rumors, the tight lipped sneers that spread throughout the balls, gatherings and reunions among the females. Their kind saw her as his doormat. The child that hung too tightly to the Casanova of their society, delusional that a male like him would ever set his sights on her. They never let an opportunity pass to remind her of that. The man who belonged to them all. Ironic, that in a month's time she'd belong to their whole race in a different sense. Touched by Moonlight Ch. 01 He was speaking, talking about the trip. He was excited, she could tell. He sent those smoldering eyes in her direction and Katrina didn't regret it. Not one second. She'd loved him for so long and so strongly. It consumed her. She just wished—- Katrina wished for so many things...Too many things... More than she was worthy for. The urge overcame her. The urge to tell him everything. Just as it always did when they shared these quiet comfortable moments, when he was simply Luciano and she was simply Katrina, she'd get the same urge. After all, there was so much she had to say but, as those kind gunmetal grey eyes looked down at her, her heart ached and her resolve faltered. This beautiful creature, this breathtaking, courageous male was meant for something important. She saw it in the way the sun played against his skin and the way the breeze rearranged it's path to caress him. But mostly because she could see the inner flame of people's souls and, while hers was a spark, Luciano... Luciano's lit up like a flame. His shine was so bright it hurt to watch. She looked around and smiled as the earth's green and gold magic flow shifted over in his direction, craving his warmth. This world loved him. Loved him maybe more than she ever could. Katrina had always known he was destined for greatness. And whatever that destiny was, it couldn't include her. This, this is what she'd been hiding from for years. What she wouldn't confide to anyone, especially not her family. When they asked 'why not Luciano'... How could she tell them what only she could see. Her birth given mark, the brand that tied her to a life of servitude gave her the ability to see into people, to see their souls, and when she looked at his... When she looked at his, she saw how obviously unmatched they were to each other. His light devoured hers just by standing beside her. He was a wild creature, untamed and uncorrupted, that's what lit his flame. He was strong, reckless, loyal and solid to the core. His spirit was free and unrestrained. "Katrina. is everything alright?" Luciano asked. He looked down at her and knew she'd been lost in her own world as she often was. Her eyes sparkled for a second, he saw the beginning of tears forming in her eyes and frowned, unsure of what he'd said or done. She blinked back the tears. She shook her head and gave him a dazzling smile. She meant it too. When she smiled in his direction she meant it, because she'd go. She'd willingly serve the Maidens, serve their race. She'd sacrifice it all for him, to bear children that were strong and worthy, to feed and heal the elders that ruled their kind if that's what it took to protect him. In the silent moments she stood before him, she knew. Katrina would live the rest of her existence in solitude, on the sidelines, wishing and praying for his well being. And could only hope that when his flame was finally set free, a spark would somehow, someway, reach her. "I think everything is going to be just fine." She smiled wide, a strange calmness entering her soul. Acceptance. "I should get going." He nodded as she reached up and gave him a small peck on the cheek and moved before he could say anything else. "I'll see you in a month, Lucia!" She shouted over her shoulder, taking one last look before he materialized and faded. She smiled to herself, in seconds reaching the front of the house, letting herself fall against the door. She had a couple of seconds of silence to herself, while she picked up every sound in their large home. She memorized it, let the memories filter through. Her sharp senses moved her a fraction of a second before a long panel, presumably from their dark grand piano, crashed into the spot she'd just vacated. She hissed. The wide, silly smile on her face did nothing to stop the thick tears pouring down her cheeks. Tears she didn't know she'd been shedding until they blurred her vision. She screamed, the sound shaking the chandelier and the remaining windows. Her fangs extended, her golden eyes blended seamlessly into bold red, her talons clicked together at her sides as her hands shook. Her eyes landed on her brothers, who's stance tensed at the top of the stairs. They both looked at her with such a broken expression, their pity clear in their eyes. Her chest expanded as the burn intensified, she felt the grief take over, she jumped. ** "Come whatever storm or darkness. I will do whatever it takes to care for him. No matter what may become of me. I will be his shield, his sword. I will become his strength and even from a far, I will love him till the end of my days. " ~ Katrina Touched by Moonlight Ch. 02 This is my second submission and a small part of what I hope will be a continuing story. It can stand alone but it follows Kissed By Lightning. A very big thank you to Inverted Fool for editing this chapter. You're positive comments have inspired me to work even harder. Glad I finally found such a great editor. I've got a lot on the way, stay tuned. Don't forget to comment or send me feedback! ** The huge hall was tall, opulent and extreme, just as the vampire society was in general. Every inch seemed to be covered in variously hued marble, statuaries throughout the room, diamond chandeliers hung in a row. The thick dark columns wound through the main hall, into the other halls, and set a precedent for exclusivity. It was breathtaking. No less breathtaking than the variety of vampires in attendance who populated the halls, visible through the open doors of the grand rooms Luciano passed. There were distinguished males in fine Tuxes, male servants in all black attire and like all of his kind they were all beautifully youthful. And then there were the women. All of them in the same room like this could leave no doubt to their lack of humanity. Their overwhelming beauty glowed against the marble and the chandeliers. Their unearthly beauty was even more breathtaking than the statuary or the diamonds that hung over their heads. They wore exquisite clothes and jewelry, some wore more of the latter than others. Most of the evening gowns adorned by the women were old, classical, although he found himself pleased to recognize several modern styles which were much more revealing. Although those were the females he should stay away from. Luciano's grey gaze moved swiftly over the females in the room. Their eyes shifted in his direction as he passed, a predatory gleam in their eyes, their heated thoughts prickled at his skin. After so many years he'd grown bored of it all, the bubbling of champagne filling his senses was more enticing than the women themselves. Baffling really, he'd never minded before, usually he'd enjoy their lavishing attention, their heated stares, but tonight they only irked him, edging on the darker side of his vampire, which was unusual. In the deepest part of him, where his vampire dwelt,, the creature that ached for blood and chaos was usually silent amongst these events. His inner vampire had been a hell of a lot more vocal as of late. His spine stiffened as he felt the heat wave from a especially bold female. His beast shifted inside his mind, fangs extended. Luciano shook off the strange reaction. His vanity wasn't one to turn away a female so he aimed his well structured smile in her direction. Many of the single women present had been his lovers at one point or another, he knew he was an amazing lover and reveled in their need of him. Their society was highly promiscuous and who could blame them. They were physically fit, aesthetically perfect, had outmatched endurance, lived countless decades in boredom, could not contract any of what the human knew as sexually transmitted diseases and had trouble creating long lasting romantic relationships. Oh there were matings of course, but it was a rare occurrence to hear of a couple who was actually madly in love. It was usually all purely transactional, used to further a family line in physical power or wealth. Luciano frowned as the perky blonde beside him chattered on, oblivious to his growing annoyance. Worse yet was the overly friendly blonde glued to his other side, who kept responding to the chatter. He let out a sigh as Natasha Suleile and Isis Winal clung onto his arms. It annoyed him when one female tried to stake her claim on him so publicly, but they both knew he'd only brought Natasha as a favor to her father. Her father, Damian Suleile was a distinguished member of the current council and, although he was transitioning out, the male had strong influence over their society and very few could deny him, especially in regards to his daughter. Mr. Suleile had called him at the last minute, asking if he could pick up Natasha from his home and escort her to the ball this year. Luciano of course, considered it a great honor for such a man to trust the safety of his daughter to him. Didn't mean he had to like being around her. He let out an annoyed sigh. "There isn't much I dislike as much as attending the archaic ceremonies tomorrow, but the ball is always to die for. Don't you agree, Luc?" His eyes roamed the hall as he gave her a short nod in response. The violin and piano made such a sultry combination, he wholly approved of the band for this evening. He knew they'd played covers of modern music made into classical spins. At least the music was good this year, In all truth, he really did detest going through the motions of these archaic traditions. The Sacred Maidens were— well he'd never really stopped to ponder much on such creatures. They were revered as powerful, untouchable pure females who lived to serve the race, to provide the highest breeding and were the only ones equipped to feed an elder, but he knew better. Luciano had seen one of those females snap. From afar he'd been able to see the unconscious bodies at her feet, and the madness in her eyes, as power crackled around her like a venous snake waiting to sink it's teeth into anyone who approached. He'd watched from a healthy distance on the recon mission he'd led and he'd watched as another Maiden dressed in white robes appeared and rightly took the mad female's head. Luciano felt the flute of champagne press against his hand and took a sip, letting his eyes roam the room. He was a predator and these were his prey. The vampires around him danced and had hushed conversations, the politics at play exhilarating. Best yet, they had no idea he was so attentive, so perceptive to their intentions. He'd risen in the hierarchy of his kind, not just by the name he'd been born to, but by his lethal, incomparable strength in defense and strategy. Most of them saw only his pretty face and didn't bother to delve deeper. A scent caught his attention, something decadent, sweet and tender, made his mouth water. His body stiffened, his eyes narrowed and a second later his eyes found her. 'Katrina.' Her body twirled on the dance floor and Luciano felt the air get lodged in his throat as he choked. He felt Natasha's small hands rub his back soothingly, sending her healing energy into his body. He gave her a curt nod, shaking her off and moved through the edges of the dance floor. His eyes burned at the sight. The Michael Costello, Elizabeth black lace dress hugged Katrina's body like a glove, with a high neckline and delicate capped sleeves that brought attention to the elegant arch of her shoulders. The fitting of her dress was heavenly elegant and enticing. The long mermaid bottom twirled as she moved. Most startling, as she danced, she revealed the dangerously low back, hanging precariously close to the edge of her ass, the large gap of the back showcased her beautiful creamy golden skin. Heat inflamed his senses, the room faded until there was only her in his sight. With a sideways glance his eyes narrowed at Katrina's tight smile towards the male companion who'd just twirled her like she was a fucking disney princess. 'Asshole.' The dangerous predator inside him seethed, his blood boiling as the male's hand landed on the center of her bare back, his keen eyesight noted the way the males fingers rubbed against her back. A hand touched his chest lightly, snapping him out of his tunnel vision, he hissed in anger. His vision expanded and the noises filtered through his ears once more. He shook his head, excused himself from Natasha and Isis, headed towards the closest bar. Luciano leaned against the bar, letting out a hard breath, the edge of the bar snapped beneath his palms. He took several minutes to contain his breath. A servant asked, "Sire, is there something I can be of assistance with this evening?" Luciano glared at the man who'd approached him, the servant almost quivered in his boots at the gleam in those dangerous eyes. Luciano sent him a nod of his head and immediately, the attendant understood. After all, it wasn't the first time the familiar servant had seen to his request. Luciano took a long hard tug at the whiskey in his hand and turned around, just in time to see a young chambermaid whispering into Katrina's dance partner's ears. He leaned back and fought the grin that threatened to spread through his face as he watched her dance partner give Katrina a curt bow and left her stranded in the center of the dance floor. ** Katrina let out a relieved sigh, watching General Kendrick exit the floor quietly. She brushed a tendril of hair out of her face and moved towards the back of the room, thankful for the small reprieve. She'd been accosted since she'd arrived. Her cheeks warmed as a light wind caressed her naked back. In the grand scheme of things, it was right up her alley but something about this dress made her feel... Wicked. There was still tonight and she was unwilling to let it go to waste. Her brothers moved through the dance floor with their partners, a twinge of sadness flustered inside her before she brushed it off. 'No. Not Tonight. She moved through the large room, towards the plush sofas in the back, her eyes lit as they landed on Luella Petroik, just who she was looking for. She was Katrina's closest female friend. 'More like, Only.' Understandably, Katrina was not well liked amongst the high ladies of the court, mostly because Luciano's numerous love affairs made his one and only female friend a target for their venom. Comes with the territory. Even now, Katrina held her head high ignoring the shushed whispers as she walked towards Luella. She'd spent decades perfecting the mask she had to wear at these functions, carefree, oblivious, Luciano's tag along. She bristled almost immediately, her eyes moved, landing on a furious Natasha, whose green eyes glittered with venom. Katrina dismissed her, thinking back to when Luciano walked in with Natasha and Isis, practically draped over his body. What he saw in those two would forever escape her. Katrina had been aware he hadn't seen her. 'Did he ever?' The doubt saddened her, mostly because it was true. Luciano never searched for her in a crowd amongst these affairs. He had no need to, he never lacked for female company and she'd always respected his space. Katrina plastered a smile on her face as she approached the group lounging on the sofas. Luella's face brightened noticeably as she neared. "Katrina darling. It's so very lovely to see you." Luella's voice was low and warm as she stood to greet her. Katrina's body collided with Luella and melted as Luella's arms embraced her. "It's been a long time, Lue." Katrina kissed Luella on the cheek. Luella brushed a tendril of hair behind her ear and smiled affectionately. "We've much to catch up don't we kitty. Now sit. My children are someplace afloat.... Have you seen Zane? He's an awful devil tonight, I insist you save a dance for him!" Luella laughed at Katrina's frowning pout. Katrina watched mesmerized as Luella spoke and chatted with the people surrounding her, they hung on her every word, Luella quickly dismissed the posse to give the two females some privacy. Luella was a close friend of her father's and had been present for most of Katrina's life. Naturally she'd grown to be close friends with her and her son, not so much her daughter. Their obvious differences in age only made for an even stranger relationship. Luella Petroik was one of the most distinguished Elders in their court. Widowed and left to raise her two children alone, while simultaneously building an empire in the pharmaceutical industry. She was fiercely protective, brilliant— fearfully so, and loved a dirty martini on a good day. Katrina had always gravitated towards her the most during a function like this. Most individuals behaved well around Luella, keeping their noisy chatter to themselves, which of course both Luella and Katrina preferred. "Katrina, darling. You know how I loath when you daydream on me." Luella sipped from a glass. The scarlet blood looked enticing. "Forgive me, Lue. I got lost for a moment. I have not seen Zane or Elvira. Although I'm glad Elvira hasn't found me yet..." Katrina cordially accepted the offered glass of AB blood. She watched the crowd over the rim of her glass. In all honesty, she was glad Elvira hadn't found her. If there was anyone who hated her fiercely and for no good reason, it was Elvira. The poor girl took one glance at the relationship Katrina had with her mother and decided Katrina was to blame for their disconnect. Luella had spoken to Elvira on numerous occasions about her behavior towards Katrina and, although in front of her mother she was civil, the moment Luella disappeared Elvira became a snake. How such a rotten child could come from such an incredible being, she'd never understand. Luella, of course found it all rather amusing. Katrina took a sip of her drink at Luella's loud laughter. "Katrina. I will miss this. I hope you know... I will miss you." Katrina's hand froze, Luella's whisper was low enough that only she'd heard. Her eyes widened as panic raced through her. She shook it off and smiled wildly at the Elder. 'Play it off.' "Lue. What do you mean? Don't be—-" "Enough, Katrina. I think it's about time we stop playing this charade, don't you?" Luella's voice was like steel, chiseling at the front Katrina had kept all night. Luella's brown eyes bore into the side of Katrina face for several quiet moments. Katrina straightened her spine, she looked up at the woman she'd considered a second mother, an invaluable friend and nodded. A heavy silence fell upon the two women as they watched the vampires around them rejoice. "Walk with me, darling. I must see the moon on a night such as this." Luella's voice twinkled as she rose, the elegant dark blue gown she wore showcasing her open shoulders and golden blonde hair beautifully. It was subtle and bold. Katrina followed after Luella as they stepped out and onto the patio. The patio stood high and looked over the maze of gardens, beautifully lit by strings of light. The moon was especially round tonight. "Katrina. How scared you must be, but how brave you are... Darling, If I could, I would pay any amount in the world to spare you this..." Luella leaned against Katrina, whispering into her ear, careful not to let the sound carry. She brushed her fingertips down Katrina's cheek. "You are one of my most loyal friends and I will grieve when you are gone, but never doubt that you will always have a home in the Petroik house." Katrina nodded, unable to voice what only her family knew. "Thank you. For being my companion, my confidant." Katrina took a deep breath and smiled at Luella, unwilling to allow the last moments they shared be sad ones. "You have nothing to fear, darling. You will be spectacular! Now, we must go find my son before the night is over." Luella dragged Katrina behind her, both women laughing as they entered one of the adjoining dance halls. They walked in towards the main hall where the largest ballroom was, people moving out of their path as they noted Luella coming. Katrina's gaze subconsciously moved through the halls, noting Luciano's boisterous laughter as he twirled a sultry redhead across the floor. Katrina tucked her eyes, unwilling to watch until she bumped into a hard, solid wall forcing her gaze to raise. "Zane! Boy, How could you just bump into a lady like that? Have I taught you nothing?" Luella's voice was hard but her eyes twinkled in amusement. Zane smile sheepishly and brushed at his already messy light brown hair, a nervous habit. "Mother, you were dragging her left and right before I saw her properly. Although how I missed such a beautiful sight is beyond me. Greetings, lady Morvant." Zane leaned down and kissed Katrina's outstretched hand making Katrina giggle. He was a fool. "Sir Petroik." Katrina mocked and curtsied. Zane's chuckle brought a broad smile to her face. "Now you kids go out and have a couple of laps around the floor while Mother finds a man who knows how to make a proper Martini! God knows most vampires don't." Luella winked and pushed them out into the dance floor. Katrina laughed as Zane twirled her out, before bringing her in and dipping her, totally against the beat of the music. She caught a glimpse of gunmetal grey before he flipped her back up, her body snapping forward, pressing close to him. "So tell me, what have you and my exasperating mother been up to? I hope she isn't getting you into any trouble tonight. After all we have a long day tomorrow, you know, watching the Maidens go at it like psycho's on rice." He placed his hand on her bare back and soon they were moving to the waltz. The modern upbeat piece was charming. "Oh well if you must know, we feasted on small children after we set a village on fire and then we danced naked while praising the moon. Honestly, pretty common stuff. What about you, Zane darling?" Katrina let her body be guided by Zane's expert dance movements. They moved around the room like two perfect pieces, after all they'd been doing it long enough. Zane gave her a dubious look before twirling her again and bringing her close. Zane and Katrina had spent many of Luella's sleepovers dancing in the living room at the beck and call of his mother. For decades, Luella swore that Katrina would end up with her son with all her meddling. There's nothing Luella enjoyed more than playing matchmaker. How sad that his classical handsome face inspired no attraction, she felt as if she were with Joshua. Zane's casual light demeanor was always refreshing to be around. "You should not tease, Katrina. That woman would totally and completely dance butt ass naked out in the moonlight! I do not give a damn how young and gorgeous she may look! She is my mother!" Katrina laughed at his objections. To this day Zane could not, and would not, acknowledge his mother as a being of the opposite sex. Luella was a mom, not a divine creature with sexual desires, to which Luella agreed. Katrina laughed harder, in response he twirled her suddenly, earning a small squeak from her. She reached up and brushed a loose hair behind his ear. "Zane, forever is a long time to be alone." Katrina said tenderly. Her eyes watched his light brown eyes and not for the first time, she wondered if those were his father's eyes. She'd never had the opportunity to meet Mr. Petroik, as he'd died in battle many decades before she was born, but she'd often wondered what kind of man he was and if he had loved Luella as much as she still loved him. Zane smiled, watched Katrina tilt her head back while they spun. Zane had always found Katrina beautiful, but it was her energy, her enthusiasm for life and natural affection towards the people she loved, that made her so. He was fortunate enough to find himself a part of that group. Her adoration of her mother had always annoyed him, mostly because they both tended to get into all sorts of trouble he had to bail them out from, but he'd loved that his mother could make a friend and confide in a female of worth. After all there wasn't anyone quite like Katrina. Zane knew his sister and her were at odds most of the time, mostly due to Elvira's unrestrained jealousy. He let out a sigh as he watched Katrina's golden skin glow in the dim lighting. He loved his sister with a force that was not outmatched, but Katrina had wormed her way into their little family and had taken root as his adoptive younger sister. He smiled, coming to a halt, placing a kiss to her cheek softly before bowing shortly in respect. Touched by Moonlight Ch. 02 "Joshua." "Zane." And with that terse greeting, Zane vanished as Katrina was swept away by her younger brother. Joshua looked dashing in a suit and tie, his piercing gone, some of his wildness tamed for the night. His eyes were bright and eager, the proper facade he needed to portray, but Katrina knew the truth. Could feel it beneath her fingertips. They didn't have to speak, didn't have to say a word. No. Katrina understood everything in his heart. She always would. He was her baby brother and she'd love him for the rest of her life. Her eyes burned with unshed tears as she fought them back. Closing her eyes, she let her head fall onto his chest. She tapped her fingers over his chest, focused on sending her healing weave. She filled it full of love and light. Joshua knew what she was doing, could feel her healing energy wash over him and wanted to beg her to stop. To stop making this alright when it was obviously so wrong, but he couldn't find the strength to deny her. He saw the way her whole body released some of its tension as if soothing him soothed her, and in some ways he knew it did. Joshua felt his whole body loosen, he let out a breath he didn't know he'd been holding and suddenly the room just seemed brighter. They danced another three sets before he spoke again. "You're such a brat but I think you're spectacular." Katrina pouted and poked him in the chest. "Come. I require refreshments." Katrina smiled as her brother led her by the arm. She smiled up at him, quick to notice the evil glares of the females around them. Joshua Morvant was quite the bachelor, sought out by many elite ladies, none to which he paid any actual attention to. She rolled her eyes at their stares, she was his sister for gods sake! She snorted at her own thoughts. "Are you having a good time?" Joshua's quiet whisper reached her ears, Katrina gave him an eager nod as she went hunting for the damn man servant with food. "I certainly hope you are." Katrina stiffened, her movements coming to a halt at the familiar voice. Her body spun faster than it should have to be inconspicuous, her eyes landed on the warm gaze of Elder Raven Romanus. She gasped at his worn down expression, her chest filled with an ache she couldn't dissipate. "Elder." Katrina and Joshua both bowed their heads in respect, alarmed by his blatant address to her. "Hello Katrina. You look breathtaking as usual... Joshua, may I steal your sister for a moment. I'd like a word." Joshua bowed respectfully to the Elder before slipping into the crowd, giving them privacy. Katrina looked up at Raven, who looked so much like his younger brother. He held out his hand to her, waiting only a moment as she slipped her hand onto his. *** Luciano stood off to the side, hidden in the shadows, finally having escaped the throngs of females who'd accosted him for a dance. Zane leaned beside him in silence. Luciano bristled, when he'd seen the two of them dancing with a familiarity that was impossible to deny. Everyone knew Luella's desire to mate off her children, it was no secret when she tried lumping Katrina with her no good son, Zane. He let out a chuckle. Zane also happened to be one of his closest friends. "You infuriate me, my friend." Zane gave him a bold look. "It seems to me, your frustration is of your own making. You cannot blame me for dancing with beautiful females all night. Especially the ones sent by mother, they are particularly delicious aren't they." He brushed his hair back, loosening and tossing off the obnoxious tie. Luciano seethed, his fist balled, he'd almost punched him in the face for that comment. Zane would live his entire existence testing Luciano's patience. Luciano emptied the glass of blood at his disposal, needing the edge. He watched his brother take Katrina out onto the dance floor. The beautiful dark gown fit her like a glove. Every time he saw the curve of her ass he found himself gasping for breath, reaching for another glass of blood to simply quench his thirst. What the hell was happening to him? He brushed a hand over his face irritated. "Isn't it time you started doing something other than watching from the shadows, Luciano?" Luciano flashed Zane his fangs. Zane chuckled at his erratic behavior. It was the first time he'd seen Luciano so clearly out of sorts, usually he hid it better. Zane's brown eyes moved back to the hall, his eyes roamed until he found the object of Luciano's affliction and my how she glowed. *** Katrina held her tongue as the Elder brought her out to dance. He was usually very reserved and didn't often partake in this part of the traditions. 'Seems things are changing after all.' Her eyes moved over the other dancers on the floor. Their posture perfect as they danced around the room. Not one hair out of place. She puffed, as she once again placed her bangs behind her ears, clearly she'd always been the ugly duckling around here. She'd opted for this up do, liking the stray couple strands of hair that curled showing the bright red tips she so fiercely loved. She just didn't expect them to be so hard to control while she danced. "How is he?" Raven gave one long far off look as if recalling something important. They fell silent as he pondered how to answer, the violin in the background was haunting, beautiful. He broke the silence momentarily, his words cut short. "He's grieving. As is to be expected. He will live. Thankfully, they had not mated, no connection was made. Otherwise he'd be—" Raven fell silent, pain filled her. Stefani was a stark reminder that no matter how powerful and brave you are, not everyone has a happy ending. Katrina felt something shift in the air and she felt heavy. She gasped for breath, feeling the room dim around her. Her eyes reaching up to Raven's, which tinkled with mischief. The elder twirled her, causing her to momentarily lose focus. She saw herself moving but had to wonder what the others where seeing. She patted his shoulder as she caught her breath. She'd never seen him be this... lively before. "Don't you think it's time you told him?" "Pray tell, what should I tell and to whom?" Katrina's smile didn't falter. She kept her arms and chin high, her stomach tight. He slowed the paced down and the air got heavier. "You don't have much time, Katrina." Katrina bit her inner cheek, her body buzzing as she felt her healing energy jolt in fear. 'He knows...' "How long have you known?" Katrina looked away, scanning the room to see if anyone was paying particular attention to them. She needed the reprieve from his eyes. Those familiar eyes unsettled her. He chuckled. "Katrina, how young you are. How beautiful, but naive if you think any Elder in this room can't see you for what you are." His whispered words shocked her, then momentarily stung her. She looked around wildly, to see if anyone had heard. "I don't mean any offense, Katrina. Do not concern yourself, no one can hear us." Katrina nodded but remained silent. He must be using his Elder power to damp the area around them, blocking the sounds from leaving. Katrina stayed quiet. There wasn't anything to say. "Won't you reconsider—" "You know what I'm destined for! How many mated Maidens do you know are joined to wild and reckless males. Even while mated their energies are forever linked and dependent on their males for stability, they anchor the rampant energy at a great toll to their own spiritual energy. You know that better than I. Luciano— He needs recklessness and danger. Luciano is anything but stable, you know just as well as I do that his energy thrives on it. Even- even if he somehow could feel a smidgen of what I feel for him, I'd only be locking him into a life he has no desire to be a part of. I won't— I won't imprison him." Her trembling hands tightened on the Elder's frame at her accusatory tone. She'd never spoken to an elder in such a tone. "You should have more faith in my brother... He might surprise you." Katrina stared ahead, biting her lip. "I've waited.. Waited centuries to have him look at me with anything resembling love or desire and it only happened once, under duress.... So please allow me to hold some reservations on him just suddenly realizing I'm the love of his freaking life after centuries of waiting." Raven narrowed his eyes at the slight desperation of her words. "Katrina. You could wait till the next rotation... You are still young." Katrina closed her eyes, felt the air tighten with suspense. "After what happened at the cave— Something has changed. It's as if, it suddenly woke up. Elder.. Raven, I— I can feel it. I can feel it getting stronger, growing impatient. It is become harder to hide. Harder to keep it in check.. " Katrina voiced what she'd been too afraid to think, much less speak to anyone. She was too ashamed of her own weakness. "I have run out of time. I cannot wait any longer." Raven stiffened. His mind raced ahead. He nodded in understanding and let out a sigh. Pacing backwards, he moved their bodies in unison around the room. "There's another reason why I'm here... I've come to warn you, about tomorrow." Katrina perked up. Raven looked past Katrina, his gaze planted some place else. "During the claiming ceremony. You will have to show your submission to earn your mark. It will seem like a test of skill, of your vampiric skill. Be cautious. Although in part it is what our society will honor, it is more a test of your submission. The Maidens will gauge how much your skills relies on selflessness in order to witness your mark." "What if I cannot pass this test? It is not as if they cannot take me." "You should concern yourself more with what happens when they take you and do not want you." Katrina stiffened. It had been so black and white in her mind, Raven's tone was concerning. He made it seem as if something else was happening. In reality, even she, being what she was, did not know much about the Sacred Maidens. In fact, none of them did. "So I must show strength to honor my family name but I must show submission and selflessness in order to not dishonor them?" Yea. No problem. Except she'd never just submit to anyone, especially not publicly. Vampires in general would never submit easily. "If this is your choice, you must tread carefully, Katrina. And above all, do not let them see the full scope of what you are truly capable of." He whispered by her ear. Katrina nodded, her eyes narrowing as she looked around suspiciously. If there was one advice she'd take to heart, it would be that. Her eyes landed on Luciano standing by the bar as he leaned into a blushing blonde she recognized, Lady Siria Jameson. She couldn't even summon enough energy to feel jealous anymore. She was past that. Raven followed her gaze and narrowed his eyes at his brother's ridiculous behavior. "Look after him... When I'm gone, I hope you'll tell him that I was brave to the end. And, that I'm sorry. I was afraid of how he'd look at me if he found out what I was. Tell him, I want him to live free and wildly, for me. And when he's found someone who can be the same for him, someone who will love him and adore him, you tell her to have patience with him, to protect him." Katrina's voice trembled. "When the time is right and he's ready to hear it, tell him to let me go.. I want him to only remember me as a happy memory." A tear slipped past her eyes and fell down her cheeks as she forced her gaze away from the object of her affection and greatest pain. "I will. You bring pride to your family. Our race is forever in your debt. Stay safe and be strong." Raven stepped back and the world came rushing back in, the noises, the scents, the light. He offered her a small bow and kissed her hand. Katrina fought against the tears, giving him a dazzling smile. His eyes lifted, moving to the presence behind her. "It seems I might have taken up too much of your time tonight." Katrina looked over her shoulder to find... Thayne. His beautiful blue eyes sparkled as they gazed at her. Katrina forced a smile. Not really feeling in the mood to dance anymore. She watched as they exchanged a curt nod and Raven disappeared. "I was wondering if you'd allow me this dance. It seems their playing a Celine Dion song, how wild is that?" Thayne stood tall at 6'3, he was muscular and towered over her 5'8. She gave him a small nod, hating to turn down a friend. Thayne's black hair was slicked back, his fangs were wide and pearly white. He was quiet a specimen. He took her hand, lifting her shoulders to stand in position. His other hand moved to the small of her back bringing her closer than she was accustomed to, and they began to dance. To Katrina, it felt like they were floating, he was such a smooth dancer. Then again, there were very few things Thayne couldn't handle. The tail of her skirt pooled around her as she moved. He seemed to enjoy watching it twirl. Thayne was one of Luciano's closest friends, the oldest in fact. Understandably so, he was tall dark and handsome but most of all he had a core of loyalty and honor that rivaled even Luciano's. He was fierce and respectable, as the eldest of his household and the owner of several large businesses, Thayne was used to making his own rules. He was a wonderful, sweet man. Katrina smiled as she looked up into his eyes, blushing at his intense gaze and forced herself to look away, feeling slightly uncomfortable. " You look exquisite, Katrina." His thumbs brushed against her skin as his deep voice spoke into her ear, intimately. She looked around, trying to put some distance between them, clearing her throat as she spoke. "It has been a long time since we've seen each other, hasn't it? How is your sister? And the business?" Thayne twirled Katrina, watching her body move in his arms. He brought her back, making sure her body was pressed slightly against his, he loved watching the blood pool onto her face. That reaction was uncommon amongst their kind. He was smitten. "She is fine, probably chattering away with the ladies. Business has been very busy lately, I regret not having called sooner. But I insist you have dinner with me." Katrina choked, unsure of what she was hearing. He'd always been a gentleman, but the way he held her, and what he said..... 'Is he attempting to court me?' Katrina stuttered, feeling her hands sweat from nerves. "Uh... Well, you see I might be busy for some time... I- Uh Thayne. Do you mind?" Katrina's voice came out in a squeak as he insisted on leaning forward, as he dipped her, their noses almost touching. She swallowed, wanting to put some distance between them. "Yes, Thayne. Do you mind?" Katrina's body tensed. Luciano's voice dripped with hostility. For a moment the air was charged with electric heat, while Katrina looked between them both from an awkward angle confused. Thayne had his arms wrapped around Katrina, her upper body plastered against his, her face turning beat red. His body tingled where they touched. Thayne's eyes narrowed in Luciano's direction. He brushed his lips over Katrina's cheek, he straightened them both. He bowed and kissed the inside of her hand as he whispered. "It seems big brother has arrived, I will see you for dinner sometime soon, Katrina." With that he gave Luciano a nod before walking off. Luciano's body trembled as he fought for what little control he had left. He'd watched Thayne claw his hands all over her body like she belonged to him, staking a claim for all to see. And that 'big brother' jibe made his fangs throb in anger, as he saw red. His gaze fell down on Katrina as she pressed a hand to her chest. 'Is she flustered by that imbecile?' He thought, outraged. Katrina felt her heart fluttering, pounding in her chest. 'Don't let him hear.' They stood still amongst the dancing couples. Luciano's' eyes were shrouded, but they held this intensity she'd never seen. Luciano stepped forward, taking her by the hand and pulling her into the sea of dancers without pause. His one hand placed on the small of her back, the other held her hand firmly. "You should be more careful who you dance with like that. Others might misunderstand the situation and question your virtue." Katrina's mouth fell open, stark outrage filling her. 'How dare he!' "You never struck me as the sort who cared about what people thought. So why should I." She lifted her chin, gazing out and away from his heated gaze. Luciano pressed her body tighter to his and her breath left her in a daze. She glared at him, understanding the point he was trying to make. " But you and I are very different, Cookie. Any who, I'm glad you're done avoiding me. Childish much." Katrina smiled to the few who watched, purely for appearances. "You know how I feel about Natasha." She said thorough her teeth, unwilling to let anyone else know how he unnerved her. She felt the bold glares of the females around and let out a sigh. "That was a long time ago, Katrina. Don't be a child. She's changed." Luciano's breath touched the side of her neck. His hand moving lower to the edge of the dress, one of his fingers slipped dangerously into the seam right above her ass. The vampire inside her bristled at his tone. Katrina smiled fiercely. She knew what game he was playing by using his charm on her so obviously but she wasn't like the other women he played with. 'Oh no. It's going to take a bit more than that Luciano.' "You're right. It's not any of my business what kind of trash you associate with. If you're not careful you'll end up mated to a witch." Katrina's cold uncaring voice took great effort, she was glad she sounded so convincing. She noted the way he stiffened and was pleased with the result of her comment. Luciano grimaced at her heated tone. He used their steps to bring them closer together, glued on every turn and every spin. He hated her words but loved her jealousy. Oh yes. Luciano had seen the rage in her eyes for a moment, it faded as soon as he caught it, but he knew. "I do believe you're glowing green." Katrina's head snapped up, she did a mental check, made sure her power was in place and immediately let out a sigh of relief. The energy of her mark was quiet, muted. The music had died down as the song ended. It took her a second to understand his pun and immediately she was filled with rage. 'How dare he tease me.' Katrina shut off, brought forth the vampire and without an ounce of emotion in her words whispered, "If I were to be jealous, I would find a worthier opponent... Goodbye Mr. Romanus. It's been a pleasure." Katrina slipped her hand out of his, and without a thought or a glance back, made her way out of the throng of dancing bodies leaving him alone on the dance floor. **** © [A. Katrina cried out as his hands were suddenly around her waist and she was turning, blurring in the air as he switched their positions with vampire speed. She knelt on the bed as he stood hot and hard behind her. She released a shaky breath and glanced back. His hands nearly spanned the whole of her waist, tightening his grip. "Taste." Was all she heard before his mouth was on her pussy and she felt a shock of lightning hit her like whiplash. She cried out, her talons extending and tearing into the mattress. His tongue devoured her, groaning as if she was the most delicious dessert he'd ever tasted. 'Cookie.' Luciano thought wildly as his mouth fed on her wetness. She tasted like a cookie, a fucking cookie. Sweet and decadent. 'Fuck.' He growled. She trembled in response. The darkness inside him shifted, coming closer to the surface in a way it never had before. He could wait no longer. The throaty, breathless sounds she made edged him on. "No biting" she gasped. He chuckled. "I wouldn't get myself mated by accident." Katrina forced herself to focus on the feelings he created in her body and not the emotions his words evoked. Even so, she could taste the emotions on the air and although she sensed his deep care for her, she couldn't separate it from his impending lust. That's all this was to him... Tears prickled her eyes. 'One night,' became her desperate mantra. She let out a hard breath when he pulled away. Closed her eyes and could do nothing to suppress the moan that escaped her when she felt the large tip of his member part her moist, ready lips and push forward. If you'd told her a year ago Luciano would be the one finally taking her virginity she'd have laughed in your face. And now her body was wracked with pleasure and he hadn't done much yet. 'Gods.' He waited there, allowing Katrina to feel the intrusion in a way that she never could have imagined. She was violated- blessedly, beautifully violated- but not enough. It wasn't enough! Again, he moved, pushing a touch more. Katrina's head rolled back, exposing her throat. "Careful, beauty. You're tempting the beast." He groaned. Katrina had no words to come back with. The very idea that she was unknowingly teasing him was laughable. His wide chuckle echoed through the room. Katrina bared her teeth. She dared a glance behind her shoulder expecting him to look triumphant but instead the look on his face was one of slight bewilderment. "You're stunning." His whispered words made her skin tingle in pleasure. Katrina frowned at his words. 'What the hell is he talking about?' All at once, he thrust the rest of the way, soaking up her cries and pressed into her hot, wet tightness, sinking all the way to the hilt. Katrina's head flew back, her hair fanned out around her as her cries filled the room. It hurt so wonderfully good. So perfectly agonizing. But he gave her no time to get used to it before he was thrusting again. The feeling of being so deeply taken, so fully claimed by such a man was indescribable. She sensed a dangerous peak drawing nearer, so intensely pleasurable, she knew it would feel like an explosion, all encompassing and all destructive. But it was mounting within her, ever closer, both promising and threatening at once. She panicked, could feel her power slipping, she groaned, distraught, tightening the reins on her mental barriers. Luciano's eyes narrowed behind her, his hand came down hard against her ass, snapping her out of her panicked daze. "With me. Don't you dare leave that brain of yours while you're with me. You stay here, rooted. With me!" He hissed furiously, his fangs dragging up the curve of her back. Katrina gasped as the energy slammed back inside her and shut off. Before she could focus on the implications of that, he gave another deep thrust. His scent surrounded her, his strength told her in no uncertain terms who was in control here. She groaned, delighted. Luciano had never been as overwhelmed with the need to sink his fangs into skin like he did now, with her. Only her. His thrust grew harder, longer. Dominant. Possessive. He'd felt the barrier intact within her, knowing he was the first man to take her fucking thrilled him and his vampire. "Luciano." Katrina gasped. She felt him stiffen and without giving her a second to get adjusted, he was switching their positions until she was once again on her back, beneath him, gazing up. He thrust hard and hit home, she cried out, her legs automatically wrapping around him. She could feel his body claiming hers. The blinding flame of his power grew, she could feel it coming from his body, a thick stream of— magic? It was laced with power as it curled around her, drawing her into it's flame like strong silk ropes reaching into her spirit, drawing out her power. Dangerously calling to it. Beckoning it to come forward. She cried out as he thrust, gritting her teeth, fighting the overwhelming building sensations inside her. 'Madness' Luciano moved, releasing her hair, which she hadn't noticed he held, to brace his hands against the bed on either side of her head. His muscles rippled and flexed as he lifted his body, never breaking the seal he'd formed at their hips. He eased out of her tightness below ever so slightly, then shoved back in. Katrina shuddered with the impact, feeling him deeper than she ever would have thought possible. Again, he pulled away, and again he drove forward, claiming her with a thrust that took her one step closer to the edge. Katrina trembled under the assailing sensations as he grazed those teeth along the flesh of her neck to her collarbone. Her hands clutched at his chest, unconsciously dazed at the broad ridges beneath her fingertips, and when Luciano's teeth rose over the crest of her breast to stop at the barrier of her aching nipple, Katrina dug her fingernails into his muscle, desperate to find relief. Luciano's mouth closed over the nipple, and Katrina's eyes flew open as the tip of one of his fangs pricked threateningly at the tender flesh. He sucked and she rose to meet him as lighting ran from her breast to her sex, earning a cry from her lips. His tongue brushed over the sensitive bud before he again rose with vampire speed and moved up her body, thrusting hard. Katrina bucked beneath him, and, as if he'd known she would fight, Luciano's hands once more found her wrists and pressed them into the bed beneath them. 'Close.... so close.' The madness was rising, the edge coming closer as Luciano pulled out and drove in- over and over. Every long, thick inch of his glorious cock, claiming her to the point of delirium. Katrina tossed her head to both sides, she had nowhere to go. Her ache grew and grew and her body quaked beneath him, consumed by a passion it could not endure. And then, Luciano drove in one final time, pressing deep and setting off a convulsion in her nerves. She could feel his release like an eruption of lava within her, scorching her to the core and magnifying her own climax as it finally broke free. The waves rolled over Katrina, claiming her in a suffocating sea of pleasure. Above her, Luciano rose like a god, his eyes darkened. The aura around him intensified, going from blatant awe to blatant hunger in record time. He claimed her lips with his own, stealing the last of her cries and swallowing them in a kiss. She screamed into his mouth as the last of her volcanic orgasm ripped through her, her beautiful vampire voice going hoarse with effort. Oblivious to the shockwave of her power that struck the windows and furniture like the blast of a bomb, instantly cracking them into billions of shards and then sending those shards outward in a dazzling and dangerous display. Then his body dropped onto of hers. ** There was no weakness, there was no pain, no fear. She was floating, weightless. It was the silence that alerted her that something was wrong. Her heart slammed into her chest, her head snapped forward. She touched Luciano's' damp hair above her, her eyes looking wildly around the room. 'No! No.' On a breath, she was poised naked above him, her hand moving to his forehead while releasing her healing energy only to cry out when it left her in a violent backlash, his unresponsive body jerked beneath her palms. Her energy ran rampant, she fought to control it and guide it to heal his body from whatever damage she'd caused. Sobs tore through her unbidden, tears poured down her cheeks at her lack of control. 'What have I done?' "Luciano. Open your eyes! Please.. " She cried. "Wake up!" Katrina begged. Her trembling hands planted firmly on his body as the emerald energy visibly surrounded them. It jerked and pulled against her mental restraints, for the first time in a long time unwilling to do as she commanded. Katrina ground her teeth, pushed the last of her energy outwards, surrounding him until she saw that spark light up inside his soul again in recognition, immediately relief washed over her. His chest expanded and his breath evened out. He slept. Katrina reached down intending to touch his cheek and jerked back before she could, her body slammed into the wall opposite of the room, what was left of it. Unwilling to touch him. She looked at the destruction she'd made, covered her face with her hands and cried. Tremors rocked her body. "Cookie." Luciano whispered softly. Dreaming. His body only sleeping now and even so, reaching out to her through her torment. Katrina fell to her knees, her crazed wide gaze trained on his slumbering body on the bed. 'I'm sorry- Sorry.' The bed frame was slit in two, the bed tilted on a strange angle, half of it broken. Katrina looked down at her hands in horror, seeing the emerald sparks coming from her finger tips, that she could no longer control. Shame and guilt swamped her, her arms wrapped around her shoulders. Closing her eyes, her power built as she used whatever was left of her strength to materialize, to put as much distance between them as she could. A moment later, her shuddering body exploded into a million particles and vanished. ****** Thank you to the amazing editor in my life, Inverted Fool, whos' patience still amazes me.
