The Witch, The Wizard, & the Dragon Ch. 01

Hello everyone, if you've gotten this far then some part of my story has intrigued you. Please feel free to comment, or favorite if you enjoy my writing. I will post each chapter as it's own story as to prevent confusion and the more comments i get on my stories the more I'll write. But enough chit-chat, Here is the first chapter.



Chapter 1:

Jace sat up quickly and looked around; it had been a dream. Sighing he felt relieved and rubbed the back of his neck. He was always sore after he had a nightmare. It was like the dream sucked all the energy out of his body. "Damnit, not again," He said with a slight sad tone to his voice. He shook his head quickly, making his long brown hair shake around him. Falling back down to his shoulders like silk strands where it settles again. 

Jace was a relatively tall guy, standing at five feet, eleven inches. He had dark brown eyes which were almost glossy; "Bedroom eyes" as his mother had once said. His usual attire was a pair of dark blue denim jeans, black socks that go just past his ankles, black runners with blue laces, a black shirt with the words "Believe in yourself, should everyone else forget," printed on it, and a long black leather coat that goes halfway down his thighs. He has a slight limp to his walk now from an accident a few years back.

Before Jace could even wake up he was greeted by a tackle backwards onto the bed. He was being Laid upon. Opening his eyes he was staring into the beautiful blue-green eyes of his best friend, Star. Star was shorter than Jace by quite a bit. She stood at five feet, two inches and was a little bigger around the stomach area, but he didn't mind. In fact, it was just the opposite: He loved how she looked. He'd always had a thing for shorter, chubbier girls. Maybe that was because of Star, he didn't know. She had long dirty blonde hair, which she dyed a lot. Her hair flowed down to her butt like long strands of a spider's web. It got tangled just as much which made him laugh sometimes because he had to comb her hair to get the knots out whenever it happened. She usually wore light blue, or dark blue denim skinny jeans, depending on her mood. She wore ankle socks and purple skate shoes with pink laces. Her shirt was usually a type of cotton and mostly black, purple, or green. Her coat was denim and a dark purple, going down to just below her waist.

Star smiled down at him as cheerfully as ever and said, "Morning Jace, sleep well?" 

Jace just shrugged at her question. "It could have been better, that's for sure," he said with a slight frown. 

She wasn't told what his nightmares were about, but she always worried about him. Hugging him tightly she knew he had a nightmare again. "Was it the same one as always?" she asked sadly. 

Jace nodded in response then said quietly "It's alright though, it's just a dream, right?" 

She nodded her head then kissed him on the cheek, causing him to blush slightly and smile. "Now, let's get you dressed and ready for another day at the academy." She said with her usual cheery tone and a forced happy smile, he could tell it was for him so he didn't say anything and just complied. 

Once dressed they went to the Academy cafeteria to get some breakfast. Jace got the usual, a few eggs and some bacon with an orange juice. Star got an apple juice, Cheese covered eggs, and some ham. They sat down across from each other at a corner table and their friends joined them soon. There was Seth, Janice, and Bella. Seth was a big guy with an ever bigger heart for only being 17. He stood at six feet and four inches tall. He usually wore lighter colored clothing and kept his blonde hair short. He could bench press a small car but wouldn't hurt a fly without reason. His specialty was Earth magic and was an expert earth magic user. He also knew how to Conjure up creatures that were able to ride on like horses or griffons, depending if he needed to fly or not. 

Janice was regular sized, being five feet, five inches tall. She had shoulder length brown hair and brown eyes. Her clothing was usually frilly, girly stuff. She wore dresses and skirts all the time, typical for a young 17 year old. Her specialty was Light magic. She knew how to use a bit of ice magic for show but didn't put too much work into it. 

Bella was a typical "Goth" girl. She wore all dark clothing, wore dark makeup, had black hair, the works. She was 18 and her hair was kept trimmed at the length where one eye would be covered and her hair was always smooth. She stood at five feet six inches tall. Her specialty was Dark magic. She could do things with Dark magic you could only imagine. Because of that Bella doesn't know anything about any other magic except that she can heal her own wounds from the basic training everyone recieves.

"So, how is everyone today?" Janice asked in a girlish tone. Groans of disatisfaction came from Bella and Jace. 

Star shot Jace a look then smiled at Janice, "I'm alright, Jace had a hard time sleeping again last night but what can you do?" Jace raised his eyebrows then made a 'Yeah..' look.

"Maybe Jace would like Bella to take a look at him again?" Asked Seth in a genuinely concerned tone. 

Jace just shook his head and smiled at Seth. "Thanks Seth, but Bella and I both know that it would be pointless, it's always the same dream," he said with a slight sad look but wiped it off when he looked at Bella. "So, how was your night? Did you even sleep?" 

Bella shook her head slowly, not really being one for talking unless needed. Jace knew why she was awake every night, he knew the visions she got because of her dark magic. He had talked to her about it before but she just told him that she would be alright and thanked him for his concern. 

"Maybe today will cheer everyone up?" Janice said brightly, trying to lighten the mood. "It's festival day today!" Everyone at the table looked to Janice and she beamed back. "They are changing a few of the rules this time, instead of only being in partners of two, they said we can go in groups of four, or five!" 

Jace looked at Bella and smiled. "You know, you better be coming this time, it's been 10 years since we all came to the Academy. You haven't joined us once." 

"Yeah, come on Bella, it will be good to loosen up and not be all serious and alone one day." Star added in her usual upbeat tone. 

Bella just looked at star then around the table then her gaze fell on Jace. Jace was looking at her with a smile and she knew he would be disappointed if she didn't go. She had a secret crush on him but no one else knew about it because she was so secretive. Finally after a few seconds of her being silent she sighed and said quietly. "Oh alright.. but don't expect me to go on very many rides." Jace smiled bigger and the rest of the table just beamed. 

"Then it's settled, after classes we will meet here then we will all go to the festival." Star said enthusiastically.

Chapter 2:

Jace got to the cafeteria first and Bella was next. They exchanged glances and Bella felt shy with just the two of them standing there. Jace felt the awkward tension in the air then he walked over to her. 

"Bella." Jace said to her in a soft, gentle tone. 

"Y..yes Jace?" Jace hugged her without warning and she just froze. Bella stayed frozen then slowly hugged him back, enjoying the warmth coming from his body. 

She stayed quiet then whispered almost inaudibly. "Thank you." 

There was a long silence in which they hugged. Jace heard someone coming so he let go of her, not wanting anyone to get the wrong idea. But when he did, she held onto him a second longer. When she finally let go she ran her hands along his sides, being hesitant to let go.

"So you guys ready to go?" Asked Janice as Seth, Janice, and Star walked into the cafeteria and towards them. 

"Yep, all set." Jace said as he looked away from Bella and towards the other three. 

Jace walked towards them and Bella followed a little bit behind, like usual. Jace wondered what had made Bella cling to him like that. Shrugging it off Jace walked up to Star and walked beside her. 

Seth and Janice were chatting about their class and Bella was looking at Jace as she followed them. Her eyes kept getting glued to his butt and it was almost entrancing her. After a few moments of looking she realized she was looking at his butt and blushed, looking at the ground again and letting her hood cover her cheeks. Bella asked herself why she was feeling like this but came up with nothing. 

They arrived at the festival in a group. Seth and Janice walking in the front, Bella and Jace walking behind them, and Star off to the right a little bit between the two groups. As they came up to the ticket booth they all bought the entrance ticket since it was a festival at the Academy. 

"Oh, Does anyone know if they are doing the magic battles again? I wanted to do that last year but I didn't trust my knowledge of earth magic enough," asked Seth to the others.

"Oh, uhm... I heard they are giving you a choice of dueling one on one and dueling two on two. I'm not sure yet though, why don't we go find out? It should be around here somewhere." Jace replied. 

"Well let's not waste much time then, lets go find out." Star pitched in. 

Chuckling, Jace said "Well I guess we know where we are going first off. Lets get going then." As he said that everyone started walking and they walked in the same formation as they did before, it's mostly how they walked. It was either Star or Bella walking off to the right, usually Bella walked off to the side.

"Well well, it's the group of trouble makers," said a farmiliar voice behind them. "Off to the battle grounds so soon?"

They stopped and turned around, seeing it was their principal/Elder. He was around six feet tall and he was surprisingly beefy for a three hundred year old Water Mage. Elder Quan was the most skilled Mage at the Academy, which was why he was the Elder. Though most mages try using two magics, Elder Quan has given up a long time ago about the other magics and focused on Water magic. Most Water magic users can't conjure up water from thin air but because of his skill Elder Quan is able to. He resembled Seth in physical build but had added body fat that hid it. His attire usually consisted of a long blue robe. He wore clothing underneath but no one ever saw it as his robe his his underclothing. There was speculation that he wore nothing underneath his robe in some of the younger, more childish years.

"Hello, Elder Quan. How did you know that's where we were headed?" Janice asked puzzled. 

"It's not too big of a challenge to guess where the five of you are headed." Said Elder Quan with a smile. "After all, it is the place you frequent when we have this festival." 

They all agreed with a nod and Bella stayed quiet. She wasn't fond of having someone of higher authority nearby but still tried being respectful to him. 

"Bella? Well my stars. I never thought I'd see you at this festival. You are usually keeping to yourself." He said once he noticed she was with them. "I guess your friends must have finally convinced you to come your last year at the Academy. I'm glad you decided to go, even if it is your final year here." He added in his usual happy, upbeat tone.

Bella turned her head away and nodded slightly. "Yes sir." Her eyes became glued to the ground and she spoke as if she was being scolded by her father, quiet and submissive. It wasn't normal for her and Jace noticed.

"Well I'll stop bothering you all so you can go have your fun. Have fun today and if you have any questions the teachers are posted at each activity so feel free to ask them," Elder Quan said in his upbeat tone to the group. But as he turned to leave his gaze rested on Bella for a few short seconds. In that time he noticed her uneasiness with his presence and made a mental note to speak with Jace about it at a later date.

The group quickly recovered their previous chatty state but Jace was silent. He wondered why Bella had gotten like that. She had never once been even the slightest bit submissive her entire time being at the Academy that he knew of. 

When the group set off walking again Seth and Janice took the lead like normal. But this time Jace was a good couple paces behind even Bella. His gaze was set on the ground and his eyes revealed he was deep in thought. 

Everyone in the group noticed almost immediatly that Jace was falling a little behind and they immediatly got worried. Seth stopped first, followed by Janice and Star, then Bella stopped. Almost in-sync they all turned to look at him. 

"Hey Jace, are you okay?" Seth asked with his genuinely concerned tone.

Jace took a few seconds to register that anyone was speaking to him then shook his head a little to clear his head. A smile replaced his thoughtful look as he spoke. "Huh? Oh, yeah I'm fine. Sorry to make you guys worry." His tone almost completely normal as he had a lot of practice hiding his emotions. 

Buying it completely, Seth and Janice nodded. "Alright, then lets go." Seth said as he turned around to continue walking. Star, however, was a bit harder to convince but decided it was best to not confront him here as to make a scene so she just turned around and kept walking. 

Bella knew he was lying because she was partially linked to Jace's thoughts from her sessions with him about his nightmares. She knew he was worried about her and thinking about her. It made her smile a little on the inside from his conern.

Jace started walking again as soon as Bella turned around and he walked beside her. He wasn't sure what had made her act that way but after today was over he would pull her aside and find out, whatever it took.

The third chapter, no more chit-chat needed. Enjoy



Chapter 3:

The Battle arena was huge, bigger than it has ever been. It was a large platform that was raised about 5 feet above the ground and about 100 feet long and wide. The platform was made of marble with Amethyst, Ruby, and Opal stones encased inside. It had no barriers on it to keep people from falling off, which was part of the activity. If you fell off the platform you were out. There was no killing allowed so if you stayed down for 10 seconds and couldn't get up you were out. Also if you were knocked unconcious you were out. It had the same rules every year since as long as anyone can remember.

When they arrived at the Battle Grounds Janice, Seth, and Star stared in amazement. It was much bigger than last year and it was no-where near as beautiful. 

"It's, It's beautiful!" Exclaimed Janice. Seth nodded in-sync with Star and they both mumbled an exasperated "Yeah..." Jace knew that this was the first time Bella had seen anything at the festival so he turned to her.

"Bella, this is the battle grounds. There are a few rules to it. First, you're not allowed to kill anyone, obviously. Second, if you fall off the side of the platform you are out. Third, if you are knocked onconcious you are obviously out, and lastly, if you are unable to stand up for ten seconds after being knocked down you are out." He wondered if she would participate or not and hoped she would. 

"Sounds, interesting," Bella said as she looked at Jace. She then looked at the others then back to Jace. "But we can't all battle. Janice said it was one on one or two on two. There are five of us." 

Before Bella could say another word Star piped in with a smile. "Yes, there are five of us. But this is your first year actually coming to the festival so I'll sit this one out and you can take my place as Jace's partner." She noticed a slight connection between Bella and Jace but wasn't sure of what exactly it was so she wanted to give Bella a chance to battle with Jace.

Jace looked at Bella then Star. "Are you sure, Star? This is her first year here, maybe she should..." He was cut off as Star spoke

"But that's exactly why she should take my place. Everyone here knows that you are the strongest, even though you wouldn't admit it in a billion years," she said with a smile. "Besides, I've battled with you plenty,"

A little shocked Jace looked from Star to Bella, who looked a little uneasy and he asked with concern in his voice. "Are you okay with that? We'd be battling Seth and Janice, they're a tough team to beat." 

Looking over at Jace she felt she needed to prove herself to him. She had never felt this way before and it made her a little uneasy but she nodded, sounding a little frightened but at the same time sure of herself when she spoke. "I'm okay with that. Star gave me her spot and her spot was with you, so I battle with you."

Jace looked over at Star then back at Bella. "Alright. Then I guess we're ready." Looking over at Seth and Janice, Jace spoke with a smile. "Shall we go get signed up?"

Seth smiled and Janice spoke in a cheery tone. "Of course! I just hope we stand a chance against you two. It was tough enough when it was just against Jace, now we have to battle against Bella as well. This will be, well difficult to say the least." 

Seth nodded and added "I agree, I was never able to beat Jace before, even when me and Janice battled him in our free time. We have gotten stronger but I don't know if it will be enough. Should be fun none the less."

Jace smiled and looked at Seth and Janice. "Tell you what, I wont use Lightning magic, just air. That should make it fair. One type of magic per person." He glanced over at Bella who seemed to be watching him the entire time and when he looked over at her she looked away slightly flustered and a soft pink rose on her cheeks but her hood quickly covered them.

"Sure, I think that sounds fair enough, though I doubt we will stand a chance even then," joked Janice. "You can cut through anything Seth sends your way and you are too quick for my light to hit you. I don't know how you do it." 

Star giggled and pitched in before Jace could speak. "To be honest, Jace paried up with Bella, I don't think you two even have a chance of winning. Even though no one here knows what Bella can do, I think we all know she is probably second strongest, next to Jace of course." 

Jace's face started to turn pink now from all the compliments and he sighs. "Oh come on you guys, i'm not that strong. You are just exagerating it now."

Star and Janice giggled a little from the blush on Jace's face and Bella even smiled a little, though it was hidden from view because of her hood.

The fourth chapter. Sorry these are a little bit shorter than most, there will be many more chapters to come. Hopefully over 30



Chapter 4:

After signing up, Seth and Janice took their places on the platform. Jace and Bella did the same, though when Bella went onto the platform she looked a little nervous. Wether it was from the upcoming battle, or being partnered up with Jace, she didn't know.

Proffesor Tranrell, a Healing mage, stood on the platform by the stairs as he looked at the two pairs and spoke in a loud voice but not shouting. "Alright, so you know the rules already but since it's my job today I'll go over them again. You are not allowed to kill your opponents, if you do you will be expelled from the school and your magic stripped from you. If you fall from the platform, are knocked unconcious, or are down for ten seconds you are out and your partner will battle alone for the remainder of the battle. Everyone clear on the rules?" Nods came from both pairs. "Good, now I hope you have fun in this battle and don't be afraid to get roughed up, I'll heal you right up."

Jace looked from Seth to Janice and nodded to them before leaning over and saying quietly to Bella, "I'll let you take the lead since I don't know what you can do, don't worry about me out there, i'll be fine."

She looked over at him and stayed silent but it was enough of a responce for him to continue, "If you, or I, somehow gets knocked out of the ring, or unconcious let's promise to battle even harder to win this, alright?"

Bella nodded and said in a hushed tone, "Alright, I promise. Thank you for doing this with me, Jace." 

Jace just smiled and looked at her. It was all he could do before Professor Tranrell rang the starting bell and Jace jumped a few feet to his right so there was some distance between him and Bella.

Janice and Seth took position about the same distance apart and got ready to start the offensive. Jace knew that they would start so he just took on a defensive stance. Bella, however, just stood there watching the others. Jace trusted she knew what she was doing so he just focused on Janice and Seth.

Star stood at the fence and leaned against it, watching the immenant battle between the two pairs, wondering how well Bella would do. 

Janice surrounded herself in a light so bright that it would blind those not used to seeing Light magic used. She started condensing it into a small ball in her hands and she was focusing on Bella, letting Seth take Jace as they planned to do. Seth had already broken off some of the ground nearby and rose it above him on the platform as it shifted into the shape of a hammer. Jace smiled at Seths new control over his magic and would congradulate him later.

Jace still stayed on the defensive and Bella continued standing there watching. Janice finished consentrating the light into a ball and took the first move, shooting the light in a beam towards Bella, who continued to simply stand there. Seth followed suit and his earth hammer swung in the air towards Jace, who swung his hand in a slashing motion to create a blade-like wind that cut the hammer in two at the end of the head. 

As the beam from Janice got closer, Bella held up her right hand and about a second before the beam hit an infinetly black void appeared in the center of her hand which drew the light into the hole and nullified the entire attack, leaving Janice awestruck from her beam just vanishing into the hole that appeared in Bella's hand. 

Bella now took the offensive and with the same hand opened a black void behind Janice. Before Janice could turn around and fight back she was bound by chains that came out of the void. The chains moved as if they were alive but were as tight as steel. 

Seth looked over at Janice and sent the two halves of his hammer towards Bella. 

Jace dashed towards Bella using his Wind magic to propell him a great deal faster. When he reached her less than a second later he stuck his arms out to the side and the two halves of the hammer were forced away from Bella, tumbling through the air like they just hit a very bouncy material. Looking over at Janice, he was taken back a little but quickly got his head back into the battle, thrusting his hand towards Seth which created a force of Wind that pushed him back a few feet.

Janice struggled against the chains and seemed more scared than hurt since she was more childish at heart but she didn't give up fighting. She quickly gathered light and forced it all around her which forced the chains off of her. She ran away from the void and created five balls of light that she thew one after the other at Bella. 

Seth revovered his footing and used earth to wrap around Bella, making it thin enough to bend but thick enough it will hold. He jumped to the side, just dodging another thrust of air from Jace. 

Bella stayed quiet as her body was constricted and her arms were pressed to her sides, her legs tightly bound by earth. 

Jace was about to cut the earth away from Bella when he noticed she shook her head, signaling she didn't need his help. He took the hint and dashed towards Janice. Putting her in a headlock when he got there he grinned and tightened it, knowing he was physically stronger than her so unless she used magic she wouldn't get away.

Bella opened another void, this time it was below her, and the void shot up blackness that completely disintegrated the earth that was binding her. She held out her hands infront of her, pointing towards Seth, and she started creating a ball of Dark magic. When it was complete she shot it at Seth, it flew through the air with such speed that it was almost as fast as lightning. It hit Seth with incredible force, knocking him into the air and sending him flying. He landed outside the ring and fell unconcious from the impact. 

Janice struggled against Jace and whined. "Not fair, Jace, you know you're stronger than me!" Jace just lifted her into the air a little bit before Janice concentrated the light infront of his face enough that he let go of her to rub his eyes as he was temperarily blinded. She jumped away quickly and shot a beam of light at him which hit him and knocked him back towards the edge of the platform.

Bella saw Jace sliding towards the edge of the platform and held her hand out, creating a wall of void. When Jace slid into the void he re-appeared behind Bella and she shot a void ball at Janice. 

Janice shot a light ball right back and they colided, both balls vanishing into nothing. Janice then noticed that Seth was out of the ring and looked at Bella and Jace, who was still recovering from the blinding light. She contemplated her options then she stood down and sighed. "I forfit. I lose. I told you we didn't really stand a chance."

Jace slowly stood up and his eyes fluttered as they opened, he still couldn't see quite right but he heard everything she said. "You're forfitting? Well I guess since you're fighting alone now and you and Seth couldn't take me alone it's understandable." He turned to Bella and smiled. "We won, great job Bella. I can't believe some of the things you can do with Dark magic though. It's kind of scary, to tell you the truth." 

Bella looked down a little in embarassment. "Oh, well I could do more than that but I didn't want to kill them. Just like you didn't try to cut them, just the earth Seth used." A feint blush came to her cheeks again but Jace caught it this time and smiled a little.

Janice walked over to them and smiled a little. "Great battle you two. No joke, I think you two are un-beatable. If you two were in a real battle there's no way you'd lose!" She finished with her cheery tone again.

Jace looked over to where Seth had fallen off then he glanced over at the Professor who had already retrieved Seth and was healing him. "Ah, well I'm glad Seth's getting fixed up, that looked like it hurt. Getting shot that far and fast from a, what would you even call that, Darkness ball?" He chuckled slightly.

Bella looked at the ground again, a little flustered. "Well I call it a void ball. I'm not sure exactly what it's called though," she said softly.

Janice looked from Jace to Bella then she looked over at Seth and smiled. "Hey, he's not hurt or anything from the fall, so we should go wait for him to recover conciousness. It shouldn't be long now." 

Jace nodded in agreement and Bella just stood there. As Janice walked to the stairs Jace gently put his hand on Bella's back and smiled. "That was a great battle, partner. They're both fine so don't feel bad, alright?"

Bella blushed from his touch but her hood hid it and she nodded, walking a little, hoping he would walk with her with his hand on her back like it is now. She craved his touch but didn't know why and it made her even more shy when she got it. Even though it was rare when she got it. 

Jace kept his hand on her back for a few seconds as he walked beisde her then he dropped his hand to his side and just walked beside her, happy she was able to battle so well and he felt more determined than ever to find out more about her.
