"I've told you not to call me darling." "Sorry darling." "You should be in bed sleeping off your big final business session, a big meal and too much liquor." "Darby please answer my question." Placing glasses into the dishwasher the svelte-figured young woman turned and, pushing back her honey blonde hair, asked, "What was the question and it better not be a request to sleep with you?" "Oh no, not that. My question was why don't you allow me to take your away from this artificial world?" Darby paused and tugged an ear lobe thoughtfully. "Very well. I'll hand my notice in tonight and you may pick me up in the foyer at 10:00 in the morning." "Really?" "I took the offer to be genuine Mr Jeffs." "And so it was Darby. In the foyer at 10:00 and don't you dare change your mind. Everything will be better for you from now on." "So you say." Hayden yawned and said, "Darby, repeat what I just said." "Everything will be better for me from now on." "And again." "Everything will be better for me from now on." "Good, those words will come back to you when you enter your room tonight and think what the fuck and I letting myself into." "Do you guarantee my safety and dignity and well-being?" "Absolutely." "Repeat what I just said." "I guarantee your safety and dignity and well-being." "Then go to your suite and sleep well Hayden Jeffs and remember what you just said." Hayden entered the foyer at 9:55 to find Darby already waiting, dressed in brown boots, white jeans and a loose turquoise top. He only had to look in the direction guys were looking to find her. He picked up Darby's left hand and kissed it. "You look very beautiful this morning." Darby looked confused and said, "You kissed my left hand." "You are holding your handbag in your right hand." She giggled and dazzled him with her dark-eyed smile. Hayden asked had she received all money due to her. "No, $450 less. I was told that was in lieu of giving the minimum seven days' notice of intention to quit." "Excuse me for a couple of minutes Darby." Hayden dropped his two bags and went to the office marked 'Day Manager'. He emerged less than ten minutes later and handed Darby a hotel check made out to her for $450. She looked at Hayden open-mouthed. "It was easy. I said to the manager rather than argue about the short payment all I would say was our family company had paid $35,000 towards sponsorship of this annual convention. If the check for $450 was not made out to Darby Bliss right now my family company would not make sponsorship money available next year unless the convention venue was changed from this location." "But that's almost extortion." "It's simply hard-ass language businessmen understand Darby." They walked to the two last cars in the line and Hayden stopped but Darby walked on to the gray Ford until Hayden called out, "This one Darby." She deviated without a word until they were moving off. "This is a very expensive model Mercedes." "The family pays me the salary and provides the car it thinks I'm worth. We manufacture an up market range of garden tools and accessories – the Mercedes range if you like. People who buy art and expensive cars buy our products because it's a pride of ownership thing. It was my idea when my father took over from his father so he made me chief executive when product sales soared." "I don't own a single garden tool." "But there's time for that Darby. I bet you don't own an Andy Warhol painting or any painting just now, but give it time. How old are you, nineteen?" "Twenty. How old are you?" "I turned thirty last month. So you missed a great party." "Are you out to have sex with me?" "That's not my highest priority which is to have you as my companion. I need a beautiful, uncomplicated woman at my side when I attend functions and to do things with me at weekends." Darby's forehead creased. "By why me?" "Because I became enchanted watching the way you move. Do you ski?" "Yes." "Ice skate?" "Yes." "Play tennis?" "Yes." "And go to the gym regularly?" "Yes, but how is it you know so much about me?" "I don't apart from what you say when answering my questions. If you must know I just knew you were the right person for a companion." "And you are saying a companion who is not required to sleep with you?" "I am, guaranteed. That is a rule and to sleep with me only you can change the rule." "I can't believe this." "I know. It must be difficult because you see it's based on a whim, not an advertising job vacancy or a relationship that anyone would call conventional." "You can say that again. But please don't say it again. I think I understand the concept. Do I get paid?" "Yes and quite handsomely, eventually at executive level. You see I don't have a personal assistant – I just use office staff. But I would hope you pick up the skills." "What go to commercial college?" "With me all you need is to be adept with a voice recorder, master giving instructions to the office manager about what you want processed from that recorder and how, to learn about our business, to work along side our public affairs manager to understand business politics and how to deal with awkward positions and how to run my office when I'm not there." "Do I get a clothing and make-up allowance if I'm required to accompany you to business functions?" "Oh I hadn't thought about that. I'll discuss that with mom." Darby shook her head. "You know I think you've not thought about my induction or anything much beyond that." Hayden lifted his hand to scrub his jaw and flashing Darby a guilty smile said, "You know you're quite right. I only made a split decision late last night when bemoaning the fact it was my final night at the hotel and I didn't want to lose you." "But you didn't have me?" "I know, but for three nights I was looking at you, talking to you, watching you interrelate with other bar staff and to clients. You moved well, you looked great and appeared to be super efficient." "You're not Jack the Ripper are you?" Hayden grinned and waited until he could pull off the highway. "Get behind the wheel Darby." The motor was running. "No." "Why not?" "This coupe will cost a hundred thousand." "No, only eighty thousand with extras. I trust you with it and it's fully insured." Darby stepped out and Hayden hurried to join her. She said, "This is something I don't want to do." "Working alongside me and for me Darby there will be things you don't want to do but know you must act responsibly and do them." She walked off and settled in behind the wheel. "This really is a lovely vehicle." Hayden said indeed and instructed her how to change the seat positions to suit. He then closed the passenger door. "Get in." she said, finding the passenger window control to wind it down to instruct him. "No Darby. This is your chance. If you don't trust me... if you think I'm Jack the Ripper, drive off and abandoned the car somewhere." Darby came close to panicking. "No... no you can't do this to me. I trust you." Grinning Darby climbed in and began her driving lesson. "Dad has a top-of-line Volvo but I like this much better." "What does your dad do?" "His business manufactures and imports and distributes horticultural chemicals, Azure brand." "I know the brand, we stock a range. Well fancy that. All right, off we go. We have another four hours to go." "Where will I live?" "With my parents and younger sister until you decide to live with me, if you ever decide on that. I occupy the small house built as a guest house but was rarely used." "How old is your sister." "Dana is nineteen and is not coping emotionally very well." "Ah." "You are a very bright young woman, but then I'd picked that. All you need to do is to befriend her and do the right thing. Hopefully in time she will confide in you – something mom has failed at – but when you meet mom you'll know what that problem is. This is all my idea. I'm hoping slowly, probably ever so slowly, Dana will accept you as a role model. Can you ride a horse and a farm bike?" "Yes, my parents have a ranch where I'd lived most of my life." "It could be useful to keep that to yourself and allow Dana to teach you." "God, you are a monster. You are so cunning." "Well don't deceive her. It's not a problem." "Actually it's very intelligent thinking... what a quick way to bond with a person. I'll think about it or was it a presidential command?" "No you don't work for me outside the business spectrum. You are free to spurn Dana and it won't matter. I suggest you wait till you meet her but don't expect to meet a lovely young lady. She's a complete bitch. A fucking spoilt brat." "Okay I get the picture and accept the foul language is because of your frustration with her." "She tossed college after the first year." "Well who doesn't? I did at the end of year two." Hayden smiled but didn't ask what happened. Instead he asked, "Are you prepared to lie for me?" "Yes." "I want you to say you were hitching a ride and I picked you up. You stick to that story and make no mention that you are to become my personal assistant." "Okay." "You mean you won't mind lying to my mom?" "From what you've told me she sounds to be the bitch." Hayden looked thoughtfully at the road ahead. As to be expected, glamour babe was also a very competent driver. * * * Hayden, by then back behind the wheel, drove up to a big house on a lovely small ranch on the outskirts of the city. The buxom and square-jawed Mrs Jeffs held out her arms and said, "Welcome to our home Miss Bliss." Darby accepted the kiss. "Oh my goodness, you are so beautiful with such olive skin. Are you American?" "Yes, born just outside Chicago where my parents still live. My father was baby when his Irish family arrived in this country. He married a new immigrant from Toulon, in Southern France. Please call me Darby." "How did you meet my son?" "My parents were upset that I abandoned my college plans after a year and were on my back so I decided to move off and have been working in resorts as one way of seeing the country. I was hitching a ride and Hayden was good enough to stop for me and said you might be prepared to offer me a bed for the night." "Of course Darby and I insist you stay at least three nights." "That is very hospitable of you Mrs Jeffs. Ohmigod, is that girl going to jump that fence?" "Where? Oh yes," Mrs Jess said, looking at where Darby was pointing. "That is my tom boy daughter. So you ride?" "Yes but I wouldn't take risks like that. That is uneven ground and the fence is barbed wire." "You can tell that at this distance?" "We drove up past the stables Mrs Jeffs." "You are very observant dear. Why don't you go down and chat to Dana? You appear to know about horses. Tell her you are our houseguest and please be aware Dana swears." "See you soon Hayden," Darby said, loping off. "What an beautiful girl with an amazing figure. I've told you not to pick up hitchhikers." "And then you wouldn't have met her mom. It appears her father owns Azure chemicals." "Ohmigod." "What?" "I met them in Denver two years ago at a convention. Her father – I forget his name – was a principal speaker but her mom, Nadia, and I sat together on a bus tour and opposite at the gala dinner. Oh she is just so beautiful and slim and oh boy could she handle me. It wasn't long before I throttled back and we got alone so well. Nadia could charm the legs off a table." "What?" "She had immense charm dear. You have done so well bringing Darby to us." * * * "Hi Dana. Hayden gave me a ride and brought me home as a houseguest. I'm Darby." "You're what?" "My mother is French and in French my name means deer park. I'm sorry I have a name that is unacceptable to you." "Are you for real?" "Do you have another brush?' "Yes but I want Calais brushed the right way." "You gave your horse a French name?" "She was named and broken in when I got her." "Oh she'd love being called Calais." Dana, in a scruffy top, scruffy jeans and wild blonde hair, looked at the intruder sharply. "What makes you think horses can understand?" "I'm without proof but look into their dark eyes and you know. And there are other things in their behavior. I saw you jump that fence. Calais would have known it was risky but she did it for you." "Jesus Christ! Here use this brush; I'll grab another one." When Dana returned she asked, "What's the name of your horse?" "It was Tess." "Was; is she dead?" "No my father was so mad when I dropped out of college he sold her, knowing that was the only real way of getting through to me with his displeasure." "Oh shit, you too." "What?" "You are a college drop-out." "Well isn't almost everyone?" Dana laughed and then looked sad. "Is Tess in a good home?" "I don't know," Darby sniffed, genuinely distraught. Tears began to roll. "My father sold her to a dealer with instructions she was not to be sold locally to avoid me tracing her. I had her five years." Dana dropped her brush and ran to cuddle Darby and began crying. "We are too old to cry," Darby said, dabbing at her eyes, and then Dana said something amazing, "I never cry. Oh fuck, I've been crying. Who are you Darby?" "No one in particularly. We are just two babes who've gone through our teens loving horses." "I don't know what's happening here Darby but I promise you, I won't needlessly put Calais in danger again." Darby ran her fingers through Dana's hair and said, "We must do something about this old mop. I think Calais would appreciate it your looking good when you're riding her." "You're kidding?" Darby finished brushing and handed over the brush. "Aren't you?" "I have no idea Dana but have you noticed how immaculately dressed event riders are and how their horses practically prance?" "Well yes." "Well look scruffy or not Calais will still love you for being kind and a companion to her." "Are you sure? You appear to know a lot about horses." "I've been in a horsy fraternity since I was four years old Dana. My mother was a champion rider and expected I would follow. But not to be. She pushed me too hard." "My mother pushes me." "I can tell you how to deal with that Dana, but not now. Do you think your brother will go to bed with me?" A huge change came over Dana. "What the fuck do you want from my brother? He's ten years older than you. He should have married Rebecca or Valerie – both of them loved him. You're just a fucking slut. Get away from me." Darby squared up and said, "Hit me you foul-mouthed misfit and then take the consequences." Dana turned and ran. Darby, have sensed victory earlier, trudged back to the house feeling her failure. She entered the rear of the house and turned into the kitchen. "Oh hi Darby," said Mrs Jeffs. "Coming home with a bloodied nose after my daughter ripped loose?" "Not quite, we were relating pretty well until right at the end when she lost it when I expressed praise for your son. She then ranted, burbling on about Rebecca and Valerie but without explanation." "Oh those two. Of all Hayden's girlfriends only those two managed to establish some sort of connection with our wild daughter. Both were pressing for marriage but Hayden said no. First Valerie withdrew and then five months later Rebecca stopped coming. Dana refused to talk to Hayden on both occasions for some weeks." "Jealousy?" "I don't believe so Darby. Dana is compulsive about things going her way. We brought out a psychologist to talk to her but Dana verbally hammered the poor woman who went away in tears." "Loco?" "It's a hard thing to face up to Darby but she had a grandmother who behaved similarly. Oh, this is my husband Charlton." A tall guy who'd been sitting on the sofa reading a newspaper stood and came over. "Hi Darby. Call me Charlton and Liz Liz or Elizabeth. Liz has been telling me about you. We met your parents in Denver at a convention two years ago. Liz and your mom seemed to get on fine together. I remember your mom as one of the most beautiful women I've seen in the flesh." "I must pass on that compliment to her when I'm reunited with my family again." "What you mean you're a runaway at your age?" Dana entered and placed an arm around Darby. "No because she was a college drop out her fucking father sold her horse Tess to punish her." "Don't give Darby's father that label Dana. Apologize or I'll thump you." "No Liz, it's okay," Darby hastened to say. "I was mortified and should had called him names like that and bashed him with my baseball bat. But I was so upset I went to my room, packed and slipped away during the night like a coward." "At least you took counter action," Dana said. Charlton agreed. "Yeah, he would have been cut up about that. Serves him right. "Why are you guys ganging up on me?" Liz sniffed. "As far as I'm concerned Mrs Jeffs, you lay a finger on Dana in my presence I'll take to you. I'm gym trained and won't be easy to put down." "That's bullshit." "Okay Mrs Jeffs. Hit Dana and see where that gets you." Liz heard the sound of an approaching vehicle. "Here comes Hayden, he's been to the office to catch up. None of you say a word about this because there's no use him getting upset. And you Darby return to calling me Liz." "Very well Liz. But I'd like you to remember slamming physically into Dana won't help her one iota. You'd assist her more by finding her a decent guy to take her out." "Guys don't go out with me; I bash them." "Find her a bigger guy who can teach her manners Liz. Remember Dana big guys often have kind hearts and like horses." "Ritchie Stafford," Liz breathed. "He wouldn't be interested in me." "I know Arleen his mother," Liz said. "Leave it to me." Dana took Darby's hand and squeezed it as Hayden entered and asked what was up. "Get us drinks please darling," said his mom. "Dinner is thirty minutes away. At 10:00 when Liz was turning out the lights and heading for bed she heard talking in the guest room and walked in ready to berate her son for sneaking behind her back. She stopped in amazement. Dana lay with one of Darby's around her and was listening to Darby describe going on vacation to Paris with her mother and learning the painful lesson of just how bad her French was when she had been under the impression she could speak real French. "Oh hi mom. Darby's mom Nadia was twice runner-up in two national junior equestrian championships in France when she was fourteen. She went on to gain a doctorate in chemical engineering which is when she met the dashing Irishman, son of a horse breeder..." "By the name of Damon Bliss who is now a shadow of his former self because of the pressures of competition in business. Yes I know, Nadia told me during a bus tour we were on in Denver two years ago." "Mom we must invite them here." "No not until you learn to behave young lady." "Aw mom." There were sparks in the air awaiting ignition and so Darby took the initiative. "Liz, may Dana sleep with me tonight?" "No I don't think so." "As a special treat and you acknowledging I'm having some beneficial influence on her?" It could have been because Dana didn't scowl or didn't plead. The girls looked so much like sisters. "Very well, just for tonight." Dana bounded out of bed and kissed her mom. A Guy Who Wanted Too Much Liz left the room touching that cheek, bewildered. * * * At breakfast next morning Liz said Darby would have to amuse herself reading or watching TV or walking. She, Charlton and Hayden would be going into the business and Dana would be going off to the riding school where she was an instructor. "I would invite you to come today Darby but we have a group of intellectually disadvantaged young people in for group therapy and visitors and barred because some of the young people are very shy." "That's fine." "Darby is going into the office with me. I'm thinking I may have a role for her." "What kind of role?" Liz the company secretary asked suspiciously. "Hayden is a big boy, leave him darling," said the chairman and director of business development. "Make Darby your personal assistant Darby, she'd be great in that role," Dana said, scooping up the last of her cereal. Darby shook her head in answer to Hayden's enquiring gaze and Liz was now looking at them both suspiciously. "Stick on a black dress and formal shoes," Hayden said. "I've only a little black dress." "Black is fine." Darby raced off to change out of shorts and a top, catching Liz's smirk as she left the room. She returned dressed for the office and Hayden said, "Jesus." "Oh you look lovely," Liz smirked while he husband gaped, looking at slender uncovered legs that seem to rise forever. As they drove through the central business district Darby called, "Stop there's someone in that boutique." "It will be the cleaners." "Do a u-turn Hayden, she's too well dressed to be a cleaner." The woman came to the door and said, "Hi Hayden. Panty problems?" "Miss, it's my first day at work and this style is unsuitable. Please help me." "Okay, come in you two." The woman locked the door behind them and looking at Darby for size picked out a modest black dress. Darby said yes and was pointed to a try-on booth. Hayden went in with her. "Get out." "I'm paying so am entitled to see what I'm getting for my money." Darby didn't respond and off came the LBD. "You have a great pair." "You mean my legs?" No. Darby's face almost illuminated the booth. She pulled on the dress bringing her hem down to knee level. Hayden slapped her ass and went out to pay. On their way again she said, "You are beginning to be far too familiar with me." "What are you... cast in stone?" Darby looked thunderstruck but then by the next intersection her body was heaving in suppressed laughter. Hayden laughed and she failed with an attempted scowl and said, "You can be quite funny you know." They turned and a mile down into the industrial district she spotted the huge plant of Jeffs' Garden Industries spread over three-quarters of an acre. "It's huge." "It has to be." "Why?" "To meet market demand." "Oh." Hayden smiled and she said he must think she was a dumb blonde. "Quite the reverse actually but I realize you are venturing into new territory. The way to learn fast is to ask questions." "You must be getting a little horny being so much in close proximity to me and seeing me almost totally undressed in that fitting booth?" "Yeah you could say that." "So when do you want me to sleep with you?" "Last night." Darby giggled as they reached an opening in the security fencing and two guards in a guardhouse waved a greeting and one raised the barrier arm. Hayden headed the car to his parking area in front of the three-level administration building that dovetailed into the plant about halfway down the length of the monotonous gray metal sheeting structure, relieved with variation in the roof line design from rows of clerestory windows. "This is really huge Hayden. How many on the payroll." "We average currently around the 930 mark. We have a foundry and heavy metal processing plant three miles to the south in the noxious industries zone. Production from there is brought to here for assembling and packaging and we machine parts and add parts purchased from outside providers made to our specs to feed any one of fourteen assembly lines. We also make and assemble garden furniture. Our current catalogue shows 133 items ranging from fancy garden gazebos down to assorted color stakes for bonsai enthusiasts. We also own and operate four garden centers with coffee shops in the north, west, south and east sectors of the city, all of which operate at a profit. We use them to showcase our products to commercial buyers arriving from all over the country and even from abroad to view our wares." * * * Hayden's mom detained him as soon as he arrived home at 6:45. "Where's Darby, I haven't seen her all day?" "She'll be taken through the offices and introduced to department heads tomorrow. Today I assign her to Jill Tapper and instructed Jill to take her on a full briefing tour of the two plants and visit one of the garden centers and have lunch there. She and Jill have gotten on so well Jill asked her home for dinner and either Jill or Tony will deliver her back her around 9:00." "Why are you going to all this trouble with a drifter?" "Because she's settling in here. She's to be appointed my PA if she wants the job after her familiarization briefing ends tomorrow and she undergoes staged induction." "You mean she's going to live with us?" "I'd be obliged it you could host her mom until she decides whether she wants to live with me. She may have that decision for me tonight. I hoped she would grill Jill about me." "Darby is ten years younger than you; you can't possibly live with her as a... as a..." There was a rustle of newspaper from the direction of the sofa and Charlton said, "A toy girl?" "Yes, a toy girl, a Lolita." Charlton said, "I wouldn't mind the opportunity but I'm married to you darling." "Shut up Charlton and stopped encouraging the boy. Are you intending to marry her?" Hayden scratched his head. "Mom let's not go down that road. There's something not quite right about Darby's situation. I don't know what it is but I aim to find out." "She told Dana last night she left home after her father sold her horse after she dropped out of college and refused to return." "Aw come on mom, who would take such drastic action over a fucking horse?" "Right smart ass, I invite you to take Calais off Ana and say you are sending her to the meat processing plant." "Christ mom, Ana would go berserk and attempt to murder me." "Yes she would and the more milder-tempered Darby just decided to walk away and hit the road, didn't she?" "Ohmigod, I think you are right." "Well I'm off to call Nadia Bliss that her daughter is staying with us and she's fine." "No mom, please don't do that. Darby has been on the road seventeen months and she's still probably hurting behind those smiles. Let me handle it my way. I'll talk to her and try to get her to call her mom. But I'll also suggest she goes with me to talk to the dealer her father sold Darby's horse through. Darby's mom used to be big into horses so will not have had just any old horse on their ranch. For sure Darby's mount will be a registered purebred and the sale would have enacted a change of ownership. I'll buy the horse back for her. Can we keep her here?" "Who Darby or her horse called Tess?" "Both of them you fool." "Gotya there son. When you get serious you block out your sense of humor." "Yeah right. Dad, mom. I need your support on this one. Let me do it my way and that means you guys say nothing to Darby, not even a slight hint huh?" "Okay," Charlton said and his mom said she now believed that was the best approach. CHAPTER 2 Jill dropped off Darby outside the guesthouse just before 9:00. Hayden came out, hugged Darby and they waved to Jill as she drove off waving. "Welcome to my home." "Thanks," Darby yawned. "I've had such a long day, so much information. Did you bring my clothes across?" "Yeah, your two bags... everything. Thanks for calling to tell me it was time we got together. But you will be exhausted?" "You can fuck me asleep." Hayden laughed and led her inside. "I'll not be fresh, I've worn these clothes all day," Darby sighed as he began undressing her. "It's fine." As the dress came off over Darby's head she said she'd been listening to Jill talk about her adulterous affair with Hayden that has lasted almost two years before she broke off when her husband decided to try to start a family. Indirectly, whether intention or not, Jill had convinced her Hayden was okay. "Although a mom with a lovely son, Jill still carries a torch for you but the fact that she still works closely with your as company public affairs manager says it all for me. She doesn't have a bad word for you. Is that why you arranged for me to be all day with me?" "Yes." "And if she invited me to dinner without you suggesting it, that you expected her to say what she thought about you?" "Yes. You are a bright girl. Look why don't you wait until tomorrow when you will be with Lenka Kovac for a while? She regards me as an asshole." "Yes that other girlfriend, now director of administration you first installed as office manager," Darby said, watching her bra fly across the lounge and she pushed Hayden's head into her breasts. "Jill said although Lenka is now married with twins and certainly has no love for you, a bitchy relationship between and Lenka continues. Why?" Hayden pulled away from a nipple. "Because she proved to be the best office manager we ever had and is better than anyone, including dad, at planning and possessing uncanny business vision. So I promoted her to the new position of director of administration as we grew the company and began to centralize our previous five production lines here under the one roof. She now chairs the management committee having replaced mom in that role. Those two hate one another but mom concedes my decision to replace her was strategically the right move." "What you fired you mother from that position?" "Well it wasn't all that dramatic. I waiting until she and dad were touring Europe for three weeks and dropped the news on mom when she was raving on about being in the Greek Islands." "Ohmigod." "Don't worry. Even mom is smart enough to know business is business. Now could you shut up? We can talk in the morning." Although obviously intent on finding out more, Darby sighed and relaxed and opened her mouth in the kiss to admit Hayden's tongue. She moaned as their tongues touched and pressed into him, feeling her breasts being squashed under his powerful chest. "I want it Hayden. It's almost a month since a guy has been this close to me." "The hotel day manager?" "Yes," Darby said in surprise. "All he said when he handed me the check was, "There you go, you lucky man. Please look after her." Reaching down to unzip Hayden, Darby said, "Yes, I was a naughty girl. He's married." * * * In the morning Hayden awoke to discover his erection was sliding down Darby's throat. "Oh what a divine way to wake in the morning," he said, stretching and for some reason received only am incomprehensible reply. Hayden lay back, hands under his head, his face bathed in a big smile until he was forced into a series of grunts. To his delight Darby the slut stayed on the job and swallowed everything and then sucked until he was on the verge of crying enough. She came up smiling but then snarled, "You asshole. You carried me to this bed last night without washing me. I had to clean up dried cum and my juices from my thighs and stomach this morning. It's not good enough Hayden." "Go on you love being treated like a slut." Bang. Hayden saw stars. "You bitch, you slapped me." "And I'll do it again unless you take that foul accusation back." "I recant. That was just playful language. No way do I think you are a slut. I love women who enjoy sex to the max." "Women? If I find you are engaging with other woman I will be out of here, probably after cutting off your dick." "Yes mom... I mean Hayden." He saw the sparkle in her eyes as she climbed up over him. "Come on, get it up stiffer than this." "Yes mommy." "Come on Hayden," she cooed. "Mommy is playing with it to make it big and strong. How does that feel?" "Fine... er mommy doesn't mean my mom. Jill used to play a great mommy role." "Did she place you in diapers?" "Um yes, a couple of times." "I bet it was more than a couple of times you little shit. Ah that's better. There is goes up mommy. Now as my tits began to swing I want you to play with them darling; daddy will never find out. You are going to make me sweat and sweat until I cry out and at that point you feel you piece up mommy began to swell and you begin to feel like peeing, only it won't be peeing. Do you understand darling?" "Yes mommy." "When I yell 'Now!' you squeeze mommy's tits very hard. Do you understand darling?" "Yes mommy. I love you mommy." "Oh you are such a little darling. Get your fucking finger away from mommy's butt hole darling." "Yes mommy." The swinging tits half hypnotized Hayden but he manfully played his role when mommy screamed, "Now you little shit!" He grabbed them but stopped just short of attempting to rip them off her chest. They would need them for other games. "God Hayden, how can you produce so much cum?" "Hereditary I suppose. Dad told me once when we were drunk that mom likes a cum bath. I asked what him and some other guy or two and he said proudly who needed other guys." "There's only one way for me to find out if you're lying with that story," Darby laughed. Hayden looked horrified and then began stroking her and licking her tits until she said, "Oh no, stop it Hayden. There is no need to show off. Please do me green fried tomatoes for breakfast if you have them while I take a quick bath. I don't wish to be late with my appointment with Jill because we first visit Lenka." Hayden was seeing this strong streak of independence in Darby for the first time and approved. He'd picked she would possess it. Busy all day performing his own responsibilities Hayden didn't see Darby until she entered his office just before 3:00 and said she was finished for the day. He tossed her the car keys and said he'd ride home with his mom and dad. "Mom has invited us to dinner." She smiled and said that was good. "She wants to find out in detail what this is all about." "I don't blame her. I would in her position." Darby kissed him and left, making no comment about being trusted with the car. Hayden thought he better talk to her about contacting her parents, knowing his mom despite her promise not to interfere would be unable to resist bringing up the topic over pre-dinner drinks. He already knew what Lenka thought. Lenka had entered his office just after 1:00 that day as she often did, carrying a tray containing a salad roll for her and two chicken rolls for him and coffee. "I'm mystified even to the point of wondering if I'm to be replaced?" Hayden grinned and said while he might be marginally crazy he wasn't insane. "What do you think of her?" Lenka was unusually restrained. "Without knowing your placement plans all I can say she's very young but appears mature for her age and I would think very bright. Executive material possibly but she is totally untrained." "But trainable?" "Yes, absolutely I'd think. I almost see a young me in her." "I did too and that's what attracted me. We had sex for the first time last night. Does that upset you?" "Not particularly. God she's very young Hayden." "If she came aboard do you think you could work with her, knowing she was my protégé?" "I think so. She is a charming young woman." Hayden rubbed his nose. "I have yet to discuss this with her but my plan is to have you place her as a trainee assistant under Jill because being aligned to Jill means she is totally exposed to the entire operation and ought to soak up information. If she shows promise, and I'm confident she will, Darby will then spend time as an assistant manager at one of the retail centers and then be promoted to manage one of them when a vacancy occurs and if that goes well she will spend time in marketing and sales and then at the appropriate time will become joint deputy chief executive by which time she may have become my wife." "Joint deputy chief executive?" "Christ Lenka, she has no academic qualifications. She'd need to engaged in that role when I'm away from the company in tandem with you." "But your mother usually performs that role." "Well we don't stand around on history and custom Lenka. You are due for promotion and will take my job when my father stands down, if you want it. Perhaps there is some alternative you'd like to discuss?" "No you arrogant, intelligent jerk. What you have told me is the only way you could introduce this girl in here and promote her rapidly without me attempting to crucify her and you know it." "Then I have your promise of total cooperation on this project?" "Yes. And you may hand her over to me for counseling if she attempts to turn you down. She could be very good for the company Hayden, the face of our future. Is she of European ancestry?" "Irish-French but below that I have no idea. Actually you know her mother because you are on our industry's standards board with her..." "Ohmigod, Nadia Bliss." "That's the one." * * * Finding it difficult to believe he'd been let off the hook by Lenka, who must have felt threatened by this, Hayden could also surmise she must have been impressed by Darby because with Jill there with them, Lenka probably would have been too bemused to have spent time asking Darby about her family background. Lenka of course was now in his pocket because she's been given certainty of her personal progress inside the company. Acting on impulse Hayden took a cab home and found Darby, naked, in the bathroom hanging up stockings to dry. "Nice ass." "Get your eyes off it." "Is it available?" She said vaguely, "Could be if the occasion is big enough. Are you home early to fuck me?" "Er, to talk." "Okay make coffee while I put something on." She came into the lounge wearing tight jeans and a plunging top. Hayden's boner found no reason to deflate. He shifted uncomfortably in his chair and thought he detected a sly smile around her lips. "Um first I'd like to map out your future with me and our company and then talk about reconciliation with your parents which probably means your father." "My parents, what has that go to do with you?" Darby flared. Christ, thought Hayden, she is just like Lenka. "Please Darby, hear me out. Dana told mom what happened over your horse and mom told me." "That little bitch ought to learn to keep her mouth shut." "Well it's too late for that now. I want you to give me permission to talk to your father about the dealer he used to sell Jess." "Her name is Tess. Why?" "Because I believe your mother wouldn't have any old horse on the ranch, that Tess would be registered." "Of course she is... oh god, I see what you are getting at. I was blinded by rage. She is traceable if we found out the date and location of sale." "Well probably details will be on the national register by now. I want to buy her back for you. Mom is agreeable for Tess coming here to live. Calais would like the company; she has no time for cattle." "Oh Hayden, darling," Darby said, swooping on him and smothering him with kisses. "This will work, I know it will. But daddy will pay, relieved to get me back and if the price is outrageous so what, it's his punishment. What now?" "The first step is to call them tonight after they'd had dinner. I'll make the call and ask to speak to your mother if your father answers. That is because your mother will make the most fuss and align with you immediately. You then talk and after the fuss dies you make it very plain that reconciliation is tied to you getting Tess back. You tell her you are living with me and falling in love with me." A Guy Who Wanted Too Much "Am I?" "I think so. You just called me darling." As to be expected, Darby burst into tears. Hayden thought she would be highly charged at the thought of getting Tess back. And then he grimaced, thinking what if the present owner refused. There were some people who would not be budged by money. Sipping a second cup of coffee, the much calmer Darby heard Hayden outline his plan for her future, including everything he'd discussed with Lenka, including the possibility of marriage. "You have it all worked out and without consulting me." "Yes," he said nervously. "God its brilliant, but so much depends on me being able to perform." "You like it?" "I love it. I knew you weren't all about getting my ass, that you had a vision that included me. I knew because you're that sort of person. My mom warned me about men like you who hunt down a princess and then lock her in the top floor of the castle tower." "You're kidding." "Yes but she did warn me about possessive men. Are you possessive Hayden?" "No, at least not unduly." "That was my thought at the time of your radical request for me to leave my job and travel with you. I was left feeling there was an air of promise about you and I had good vibes about you, that it was a chance and I should gamble and take it." "Well there's a long way to go." "There is Hayden, there really is and so much depends on me." Darby sighed and began undoing her jeans. "Come over here darling, I wish to be attended to lovingly. I'm feeling so emotional." "Er, are you protected. Women are more likely to become pregnant when they feel emotional, or so I've read." Laughing she said, "Yes of course I'm protected you fool." * * * The phone call after dinner went very well. Nadia Bliss had screamed and cried almost incoherently before she and her daughter talked. Her father Damon was also delighted to hear from his daughter again and was most contrite. Neither parent made any fuss when Darby told them she was having an affair with Hayden who was ten years her senior. Astonished that Darby had made such a strong connection with the Jeffs family, Nadia and Damon flew in next day for the formal reconciliation and stayed the night. Damon insisted he'd do the right thing and buy back Tess for Darby and get her delivered to the Jeffs' ranch. Dana appeared to be a changed person, relating so well with Nadia as they talked about Nadia's childhood and horses. On Saturday morning ten days later Tess arrived on a horse transporter to a full family turnout. Dana and the men remained dried eyed watching the reunion between Darby and Tess who definitely recognized and muzzled Darby. Liz was on the phone relaying what was happening to Nadia while Charlton filmed it. Dana had tear-filled eyes when Darby handed Tess to her and said, chokingly, "Go on darling, take her down and make the introduction. It's best this occurs with only you three involved." Although Calais was three years younger than Tess and they were in Calais' domain, there was no problem and after a bit of excited ho down between the horses, shortly afterwards they were together, heads over the gate, watching the retreating and smiling Dana. That afternoon Dana and Darby set out with packs to spend the night at one of the cabins on the nearby mountain horse trail. "This is going to be so great for Dana," Liz said to Charlton and Hayden as they watched the young women ride off. CHAPTER 3 Everyone at the top tried hard, none more so than Darby, to ensure her apprenticeship in preparation for her being absorbed into the company's top management team succeeded. But within a couple of months the cracks were showing. Probably Hayden noticed it first. Darby appeared to be losing interest in sex, first in frequency in terms of multiple engagements at any one session and then the occasional immediate 'not interested' sign was relayed, the reason given being tiredness. At first he was suspicious, thinking Hayden had found another guy and was finding it tough keeping both of them satisfied, but she remained completely relaxed with him and anyway there really was no evidence of incriminating suspicious behavior. So he chatted with Lenka. "How's Darby going?" "Oh quite well." "And quite well means?" "Hayden I think we should give Darby more time to settle in before I answer that question." "So she's not coping well." "Fuck you Hayden. Why do you have to push me? No she isn't. In fact she's showing signs of stress. She knows absolutely nothing about public affairs management and PR procedures and doesn't know about reporting and general office procedure and who can blame her Hayden? She's never worked in anything but the hospitality industry and then only in interfacing with the public and doing rudimentary cash balances. She is out of her depth and now you are going to callously give her the chop or have me do the dirty work for you." "No nothing like that. I want you to take her out to lunch tomorrow and tell her it's for a review of progress. Tell her you are disappointed at her rate of progress." "Oh crap Hayden." "Shut up and listen. She will agree with you. You say it isn't her fault that I'm at fault for setting impossible goals for her at this stage in her working life. And repeat that, at this stage in her working life. Then you give her the way out." "You brute, you want me to hand her a piece of paper and pen..." "No, I want her to remain with the company. You suggest the north garden center as it's the closest to our ranch and she starts there as a trainee management." "With no plant and gardening knowledge, ha!" "Her dad's plant manufacture's horticultural chemicals and she's worked in the business during school breaks. Also she's helped her parents' plant 15,000 trees and shrubs on their ranch designed to become a showpiece and worked on maintaining them. Ever since she was a little girl, according to her mother, Darby helped her in the flower and vegetable garden. I know this because I spoke to her mom before I began this conversation with you. Further, she'd completed two years at college taking horticultural science before she dropped out. I'd known nothing of this." "Then they might be hope for her?" "That depends on how you handle this and how manager Glenys Finch at the center relates to my little honey. If Darby takes this option tell her I'll simply think she is entering stage two of the plan and you then go out and butter up Glenys." "And if this doesn't work?" "Well she'll have to be fired. I'll do that." "You're a ruthless bastard Hayden Jeffs." "We have to act commercially Lenka and you know that. I'll find her a job she can handle." But he didn't have to bother. Darby acted independently. * * * Darby entered Lenka's office, white-faced but smiling and relaxed. "Sit down Darby." "No standing is fine. Thank you for lunch and assisting me to bring my personal crisis to a head. I can see clearly now. I'm guilty of allowing myself to be seduced into believing I was capable of being a huge achiever. My mom did that to me all through my earlier life and then I fell under the spell of sweet-talking Hayden Jeffs and so began Round Two. Well it's time to take charge so here is my resignation Lenka. May I leave right now?" "Yes of course Darby. It would be wrong of me to attempt to stop you because this challenge not of your making is beginning to pull you down. I have seen it happening." "Thank you and goodbye Lenka. Thank you for trying with effort." "Goodbye dear." When Hayden arrived back at the office just after 5:00 his mom, who'd been waiting for him, came out to meet him. "Bad news for you Hayden, Darby has resigned." "Oh shit." "You attempted to change her and failed, that's all it is. I don't believe she'll hate you." "Did I rush it? Yes, that's it – I wanted too much too fast." Liz hugged him. "That's a thought. My thought is your were pushing someone who didn't want to be changed." "The bitch – then why didn't she say?" "Would you have listened had she attempted to pull back? Actually my thinking is she was so overcome by you she hadn't paused to think was this what she wanted. I think you came into her life when she was very lonely." "Oh god, what have I done?" "Go home to her now son. She'll want to talk." Hayden raced home. He didn't find Darby but he found her note. 'Dear Hayden: By the time you find this you'll know I have resigned. Your plans for me were too much for me. You wanted to change me into I person I wasn't. I tried hard to please you but failed. I decided to ride off into the sunset. Dana found me filling my backpack, questioned me and appealed to come with me. It's what she wanted so I said yes but made her call the riding school. She was given six weeks leave without pay. We are going to ride the high country. She is taking CB radio with spare batteries but please don't you and your mom attempt to contact us. We want solitude and companionship and time out. We have a full month before the earliest snows are likely so will return in about four weeks. Don't be mad at me Hayden. I'm doing this hoping to work out my immediate future in life. I left money to cover the food we took from Liz's pantry. We have maps and Dana has her rifle. Adieu.' Hayden hurt his hand thumping the table. He called his mom who was only a mile away from home. "They've gone." "I wondered if that might happened. They've become very close." "I haven't said who they are." Liz laughed. "You're distraught and not thinking straight Hayden. I guess Darby left a note." "Yes." Hayden gave Liz details. "That was the better choice." "What? They've had no more than a two-hour start. I'm going after them on my dirt bike." "No Hayden and here's why. You're not thinking. I don't mind them being up in the hills. There are cabins all along the riding tracks for some two hundred miles. I was fearful when you told me they'd gone they might have hit the road." "So?" "Dana is not ready for that but in a month's time when they return your sister will appear calmer and noticeably matured because she's riding with a superb role model." "Mom, no. I'm..." "No Hayden. I can see our ranch; I'm only minutes away. Wait, I need to calm you. You might catch up with them and attempt to stop them but then what? What if Dana pulls her rifle on you? You are attempting to interfere with their freedom of action." "Christ mom, you've got it wrong. I can stop them and bring them back home." "Listen asshole, you've attempted to wreck Darby as a person and she'd had the sense to pull out. Don't try the second time." "You called me asshole?" "Yes and think about it. Well deserved don't you think? I'm turning into our track now. Stay where you are asshole." THE END
