This was a new phenomenon; I'd been siting there waiting for her to ask! Catlin my wife of twelve years, inviting me to join her in bed on a Tuesday evening. This had been the third Tuesday in a row. Now I'm not thick, alarm bells were ringing in my head. Catlin wanted me to join her in bed and have sex on a weeknight. Sex on a weeknight had been off the menu as far as Cait was concerned since she started back too work after having the kids. Now I wondered what was making her so Horny on Tuesday evenings. No, come to think of it for the last few weeks she had insisted that we have intercourse on Wednesday mornings as well. It appeared to me that Caitlin was making sure she was well fucked before she went to work on Wednesdays and I was wondering why. I joined her in bed and we made love, just as we used to when we were first married. Cait was apparently insatiable and I was totally knackered before she finally let me fall asleep. Then Caitlin sucking on my penis awakened me in the morning and we made love twice more before she got up. I lay in bed pretending to doze and watched her morning ritual. I noted that she didn't shower before she dressed, She went into the bathroom and made all the right noises and ran the shower. But I had been studying her morning routine for the last week or so, she just wasn't in the bathroom long enough to have her usual shower. She had chosen different under clothes as well, a sexier bra and a thong. God, I had trouble persuading her to wear a thong for me, today she was wearing one to go to bloody work. For the last couple of weeks I had been watching the changes in her. Today I was going to find out what was going on. I feared that she was having an affair and as I had watched her all day yesterday and nothing had happened. Today Wednesday had to be the day. I got up and dressed then went down to join Cait and the children for breakfast. Cait came over and kissed me as usual. "Morning lover, could you pick up the children from school today, I've got a lot on at work on and might be little late tonight?" Dam if she goes and meets some guy after work I'll be stuck with the kids and won't be able to watch her. (Brain into high gear). "I'm sorry babe, I've got a late meeting myself, I could well get hung up!" "Oh, that's OK, I'll get my mother to pick them up." I hurried my breakfast and rushed out of the house, I was meeting a colleague early to exchange cars, so I could follow Caitlin without her spotting me. Reg. was waiting at the end of my road and we did the exchange. I drove around the block and parked were I could see the house. Reg's wife had an affair last year and he had borrowed my car to follow her now he was returning the favour. He had also lent me a load of surveillance stuff but except for the radio transmitter in Cait's car I hadn't used any of it yet. Eight fifteen Caitlin came out with the children and drove them to school. Having dropped them off she went on to work. Cait works in a travel agent's and I sat in a café just over the road from where I could see her most of the time. Nothing happened all morning and I drank copious amounts of coffee. Then just after twelve Caitlin an hour early than usual came out as if she was going to lunch. She got her car and drove out of town I followed as she drove to the Motorlodge on the bypass. I stopped out on the road and watched as she made a phone call then she got out of her car and went inside. I gave her a few minutes then followed her. Luck now played in my favour, I recognised the girl on reception. She was the girlfriend of one of my golfing friend's son's. I chatted to her to remind her whom I was then checked that Caitlin had joined who I thought she had, in the room. I'd spotted his car parked out front, then I returned to my car to wait and see how long this illicit liaison was going to last. One-thirty he came out, a big smile on his face, a few minutes later Caitlin followed. I got the feeling she was not looking as happy as you would expect her to be, considering she had just had an orgy with her lover. When you have been married as long as I have to Caitlin, I could tell, her body language told me she was not in a very good mood. Cait got into her car and drove away. I went back into reception and persuaded the girl to go through the records. Caitlin and her lover had been meeting there for the last four Wednesday's and the man had already booked for next week. Apparently Caitlin had paid for the room in cash; the girl told me that had been the procedure for the last few weeks. I left and drove to my office were I collected my own car, then I went home. Leaving my car in the drive I walked the pub down the road and spent the rest of the afternoon trying to think what I was going to do about Caitlin and him. I was also having some difficulty working out why I was so calm about this. My wife, the love of my life was having an affair with someone I always considered to be a good friend. He was one of my own crowd, someone I had gone to school with. Dam it, I'm godfather to two of his bloody kids, and now the arse-hole is shagging my wife. But what was I going to do? Divorce her? Well, I love her, what was I going to do without her? Come to that, did she love me? She was always telling me she did! But did she? Would she be shagging Tony Marsh if she loved me? I don't think so! Was Caitlin looking for a way out of our marriage? She always seamed happy enough. But if she was happy with our marriage, why was she shagging Tony? God my mind was going in circles. Before I knew it, The time was nine-thirty and I was well pissed. I staggered back home to be met by a rather annoyed Caitlin. "Where the hell have you been? I've been worried sick!" Cait demanded. "I've had a shit day at the office and went for a drink to settle myself down. But I think I've overdone it a bit, I'm going to bed. I'll see you in the morning." Caitlin looked at me, I could almost feel her mind working. "What happened at the office to upset you so much?" "Look don't worry about it babe, it'll all come out in the wash. It's just, Oh you know, things get me down sometimes." "OK darling, but I wish you had told me you were down the pub. I wouldn't have worried then." "Next time I'll tell you, alright." I went to bed. But sleep didn't come easily. If I closed my eyes, my mind conjured up pictures of Caitlin with Tony that swirled through my drunken haze. If I opened my eyes the room began to slowly tilt to the right. Shit, I hate getting pissed! In the morning Caitlin brought me a coffee and the inevitable Aspirins. "How's your head this morning? Darling, you certainly tied one on yesterday and you've have had a really disturbed night. I had to go sleep in the spare room. Are you going in to work today or shall I call them and say you're sick?" "No, it's alright I'll call them, I've got some things I've got to organise." I was glad Caitlin had woken me, had she called my work she would have found that I had the week off. She might then have realised I had some idea of what was going on between her and Tony. That would have put the kibosh on my plans for Saturday night. I'd decided I was going to take the pair of them by surprise. The rest of the week every thing appeared normal. Caitlin was her normal loving self. Friday night was going to be a problem for me. Now knowing for sure that Cait was shagging Tony, I had no intention of playing second fiddle. Cait was not going compere my technique to Tony's any more. I solved my dilemma by apparently getting drunk again. I could see that Cait was livid with me, but she uncharacteristically didn't say a word. Saturday Cait took the children shopping then dropped them at her parent's place. The children were going to sleep over there as Cait and I were going out to a dinner party that night. As soon as Cait and the children left the house, I was dashing around like a blue arsed fly, getting all my gear together. This was most likely the last day this would be my home. I'm a realist Caitlin would make a much better job of bringing up the kids than me. Christ, it's quite hard trying to make it look like nothings missing. If Cait spotted anything was amiss it could well give the game away and would spoil the fun I had planned for the evening. Cait returned alone, and as always she played the part of the loving wife. As we got ready to go out to dinner, Cait did put a scare into me by hinting that, as I had been too inebriated to play the previous evening, we should indulge in a little Gymnastics before we went, but I somehow managed to talk her out of it. At seven we left to go to Linda and Jim's house for diner. End of part one. Sex, Lies, and Confusion Ch. 02 There we were eight of us at the diner, all of them were Caitlin and my closest friends. Our host's where Jimmy and Linda Lange, then there was Phil and Carla Thomas, Tony and Jean Marsh; my wife Caitlin and myself. Whilst Caitlin assisted Linda in serving the food, the rest of us made small talk. We all knew that when we had finished the meal the subject of our group summer holiday was going to be discussed. For the last few years now, it had become our habit to go away together as a group for a fortnight's holiday each summer. With sixteen children between us, it had proved a very successful formula and this diner was to be the first formal planning meeting for this year's excursion. But before the planning started we were all making small talk, as I hoped he would Jimmy returned to a subject I had planted in his mind earlier. "Roger, tell me what did happen with Greg and his wife in the end?" Gregory Mason was a work colleague of mine. Just over a year ago, he had discovered his wife was having an affair, and had asked my advice as to what he should do about it. I had been his confidant and assisted him in bringing the affair to a speedy end. As I had planed I had only got half-way through the saga before we had sat down to eat. "Well, once Greg had caught Marsha out and we had scared off the Pratt she was seeing. She confessed all her sins to Greg, and then she begged him to forgive her. He made her sweat for a couple of weeks; then the dam fool went and forgave her, then he took her back. If your ask me she'll only do it again when the fancy takes her!" I could see from her body language that Caitlin was just a little uncomfortable with the subject of infidelity, and Tony Marsh had developed just a hint of a smirk on his face. He was sure he knew something I didn't. I looked over at Tony. "What do you reckon Tony? What do you think a husband should do when he finds out his wife is cheating on they're marriage. Should the husband forgive her and take the cheating wife back, or should he divorce her?" I could see that I'd taken Tony by surprise, he flustered a little, then replied. "Well, I don't really know, it would have to depend on the circumstances wouldn't it." "What about the guy the wife was cheating with. What do you think a husband should do about him?" Tony was looking distinctly uncomfortable now. "God, I how should I know? I've never been in situation like that, and I'm not likely to be either." "No I suppose you wouldn't. But I think I know what I would do, once I was sure I had the right man that is. I would find a way to let him know that I was aware of what he had been doing, and that I intended to put the bastard in hospital for a long, long time. I would let him know that I wouldn't go for him right away, mind you. I would just make sure he knew, that I was onto him and I would be coming sometime in the future. That way the gutless creep would have to keep looking over his shoulder, waiting for me to be there. He would know that I was going to be there one day, but he just wouldn't know when!" Phil must have decided that the subject of conversation wasn't to his liking and attempted to change the subject by calling us to attention and asked. "Well I know that the girls have been throwing some ideas about between them, but has anyone come up with a plan for this years junket?" Now, was the time for me to really put the cat in with the pidgins. "I'm sorry to have to this say my friends, but Caitlin and I will not be joining you this year!" Caitlin gave a little start and looked at me, she was just about to say something when Carla commented. "Oh Rog, you and Caitin were the founding members of this group holiday thing. Why aren't you coming this year?" "Caitlin and I have a few problems at the moment. To be honest it looks to me as if we could well be getting divorced in the very near future. So there's not much point in making holiday plans, is there. I could see both shock and panic in Caitlin's face. But she didn't know what I knew, so she must have decided she was going to try and brazen things it out. "What the hell are you talking about?" Caitlin demanded. I ignored her and continued with the rest of my script. "I'm sorry to break it to you all so suddenly folks, but I only found out for sure myself this week." Everyone now appeared to be in shock and I had they're full attention. Out of the corner of my eye I could see Caitlin's mouth moving but she was making no sounds. I stared at Tony with a smile on my face. Tony tried to stare me out, but failed. His wife Jean who had appeared a little confused during my earlier exchange with Tony, now looked from me, to Tony, and then at Caitlin. She saw that they were both looking somewhat embarrassed, Jean's face slowly turned purple as she began to put two and two together. "I found out on Wednesday that my loving wife Caitlin has taken to getting some extramarital action in the local Motorlodge. From what I have managed to discover it's become a regular booking over the last few weeks. Obviously Caitlin has decided I don't come up to muster in bed department anymore. So she's found someone else to satisfy her needs!" I looked at Tony. "Mind you, the stud won't be satisfying anyone's needs for much longer, I intend to make dammed sure of that!" The smirk had now gone from Tony's face, and I think he was at a loss as to what to say. I had just threatened to do him serious harm, but if he replied to my threat he would be admitting his adultery to his wife in front of witnesses. I was still smiling and staring at him. It looked as if Tony had finally thought of something to say, when Jean erupted. "You fucking bastard! You did didn't you?" She shouted at Tony. "You've been fucking Caitlin! You cheating arse-hole....." Jean's tirade of insults went on for some considerable time. Then, quite suddenly she stopped and turned to me and in a very calm, controlled tone she asked me. "Have you got any proof, that will stand up in court?" "Witnesses, Video's, copies of hotel receipts, all I need for a divorce. If you get your solicitor to give mine a call I'm sure she'll supply you with copies you need, or if you haven't got a solicitor I'll give you mine's number, she's a really nice girl, maybe we can get a discount on a group booking?" This was a nice touch after Jean's outburst, she was calmly discussing divorce with me, whilst Tony and Caitlin sat at the table speechless. Well it was out in the open now and I had informed Tony that he was going to regret having an affair with my wife. Now a figured strategic withdrawal was required. I looked around my friend's faces as I stood up from the table. "Well, I'm sorry that I've had to put a damper on the evening, but to honest with you, between them these two have put a real damper on my life. I'll think it would be best if I were to leave now. Goodnight all." As I walked out of the room I was aware that Caitlin was following me. Out in the hall I stopped and turned to face her. I could see the tears running down her face. "Where the fuck are you going?" "Home with you." Caitlin replied softly. "You're not going anywhere with me girl, go shack up with your chicken-shit stud. If Jean's got any sense she won't have him back in the house any more. The pair of you can go back to your little love nest." "Please Roger? You've got to let me explain!" "Explain what? How he shagged you! Or how you shagged him? That's always been your fortè hasn't it. No Cait there's no explaining you could do now. Remember you shagged your way into our marriage, and now you've bloody-well shagged your way out of it!" Before she could say another word I was out the front door, slamming it behind me. As I started my car Caitlin appeared and stood in front of it. I began to move forward, then Jimmy appeared grabbed her arm and pulled her out of my way. I had thought that I had my emotions completely under control. My slow discovery that Caitlin had been cheating on me, had meant there was no sudden realisation of what was going on. No one thing had come anywhere near making me loose control. But that night I had almost lost it. I'm not sure, but I might have just been mad enough to drive over Caitlin. When I had cooled down I was glad that Jimmy had followed us out. I drove to Greg's house, he had agreed to put me up until I got myself sorted. I had decided that Caitlin would need the house. The children would be better off with their mother looking after them. I have always done my best as a father, but I'm not really domesticated animal. My skills are as a breadwinner, I would make sure the children had all they ever needed. End of part two. Sex, Lies, and Confusion Ch. 03 Confusion Sunday morning my Cell-phone started ringing the moment I switched it on. I'd got a whole collection of missed calls and messages, mostly from Caitlin's mobile and our home phone. Plus a couple from Jimmy's phone. I called Jimmy back, and Linda answered. "Hi Lin, sorry that I had to make that scene last night, but it had to come out sometime. I wanted everyone to know what had been going on." "Well we certainly all know now! But you left before the finale, Jean had another good rant at Tony after you had gone, and he hit her. She was calling him all kinds of names, he lost his temper and gave her a real back hander, and Jean's got the makings of a right shiner. Phil jumped in and decked Tony, then we called the police, they came and took Tony away. From what Jean said, I gather it wasn't the first time Tony has been violent to her." "Oh yea, before the police came, Caitlin got at Tony as well and gave him a good kicking in his privates, then he threw up all over our new carpet. Cait was calling him all kinds of names. We couldn't really make much sense out what she was shouting, but we all got the impression that what was going on between her and Tony was not what you would normally call an affair." "I can guess, Cait's always had a very high sex drive. She's probably decided she just wanted more than I can give her." "No No. I'm sure its not Caitlin wanting the sex, she appeared to be blaming Tony, She kept calling him names and saying this was all his fault. Unfortunately Caitlin worked herself up into such a state that she went all hysterical on us and was completely incoherent." "When the police finally arrived they called the paramedics to her, who then got Phil and Carla had to take her to the hospital. Carla called earlier and told us Caitlin had been put under sedation for the night. We were all worried about your kids. Where are they?" "They're fine, they are with Caitlin's folks for the nght. They'll look after them until she's feeling better." "What about you, where are you staying? We know your not at home we went around there last night." "I'm all right. I'm staying with a friend for a few days. I think I've decided to take that job in Devon, I haven't got Caitlin to stop me now, so I might as well go and enjoy playing the big boss." "You're definitely going to leave Cait and divorce her then?" "What choice have I got Lin, I'm not staying married to a woman that goes sleeping around, I've got some pride." "But you still love her don't you?" "Yes of cousre I love her, more now than when we got married. Well you know all about that, I stood by her then, and soon fell in love with her. I have fallen deeper in love with her every year. To be honest I don't know how I am going to survive without her, but I will have to. Look, I've got to go Lin, I've a hell of a lot to do today, I'll call again you later." "No wait a minute Roger. I don't know what happened when you were married, but I do know you two have always made a wonderful couple. As long as I've known you, you have always seemed so in love with each other. Please Roger? Come round here and talk things over with Jim and me before you do anything drastic." "Well you should get Jimmy to tell you the story of my wedding. It's different from how most people marry. And OK I'll talk things through with you two, but I don't know what good it can do. Bye." "OK we'll see you tonight for diner then, Seven o-clock alright with you?" "Yea, I'll be there. But Lin?" "Yes." "NO Caitlin!" "OK, I promise!" With that I disconnected. I had guessed Linda had planned to have Caitlin there tonight but she was wasting her time. Caitlin and I were through. Jean called me around lunchtime, and asked if I knew how long the affair had been going on. I told her that I was playing my cards close to my chest at the moment. If she started proceedings against Tony, I would give her everything that I had, but not until then. She asked for my solicitors' details and said she would be at their office first thing Monday morning. I told her I would meet her there. ++++++++++++++++++ Six o-clock saw me parked up the road from Jimmy and Linda's place. Caitlin's car was parked out front, so I waited for her to leave. She came out with the children about six fifteen. I saw her look up and down the road, she didn't spot me because I was in Greg's car again. When she had gone I left the car were it was and walked down to the house. Jimmy and Lin saw me coming, and they were both at the door to greet me. "Hi Rog. From your timing we assume you saw Caitlin leave?" Jim said, as Linda gave me a hug. "What was she doing here? Explaining how she's the innocent party, how her fucking Tony was all my fault, I suppose. Well I'll tell you now! I'm not interested in her excuses; so please don't you two start trying to put any pressure on me. Caitlin is strong willed and she has always done her own thing. She knew exactly what she was doing, and she knows what I think about adultery and what I'm going to do now." "But Rog it can't do any harm to talk?" Linda replied. "Three or four weeks ago she had all the opportunity she required, if she had felt she needed to talk to me, she could have done so then. But while I didn't know she was shagging Tony, she saw no reason to talk about it. Now I've found out, she suddenly want's a nice conciliatory chat. Well that one's out of the window. I told her last night, Caitlin shagged her way into our marriage and now she's succeeded in shagging her way out of it." "I heard you say that last night Roger. But I'm sorry, I don't understand what do you mean by it." Linda asked. "Haven't you told her Jim, I'd have thought it was a juicy bit of gossip!" "What happened between you and Caitlin back then was your own private business. You have always been my friend, my best friend come to that. The only people I have ever discussed how you and Caitlin came to get married with, have been you and your brother. I've always thought that I would be breaking your trust, so I have told Linda nothing about it." "Oh Shit Jim. I'm sorry. That was rude of me. You're a better friend than I realised. I assumed, you thought I was a bloody mug like most of the guy's did." "No I never thought you a mug. You believed Claire was your kid and you did what you thought was the right thing at the time, and I have always thought it was the right decision you made. That makes you a better man than the guys that would have walked away." "Sorry Guy's. But you've lost me here. Could you please tell me what you talking about." Linda was looking very confused. "Look Rog, you and Lin go settle yourselves in the lounge and then you can tell Lin the whole story. I'm bound to get it all wrong, I'll get on with the dinner." "Domesticated him haven't you." I said to Linda as she led the way into they're lounge. "He's a darn sight better cook than me." she replied. I sat on the sofa and Linda perched herself on the edge of one of the armchairs. I could sense she was impatient to hear the saga of how Caitlin and Roger got married. "Where do I start? You know I've never had to tell this story before, I have always assumed that it was relayed to everyone behind my back." "You underestimate the respect your friends hold you in. Very few people know the real story." Jimmy's voice came from the kitchen. He was obviously going to listen in." "Now Linda, you are bound to think this just couldn't happen. But it did! I first met Caitlin when I was at Uni. I lived in a house with about ten other people at the time, mostly students. Some real 'Hippie Type' called Willie owned the place, he was really laid back and stoned out of his head most of the time. Different people, kind of came and went all the time. I had been dating a girl called Kathleen for the three years I lived there." "Sex on legs, boy, was she a cracker!" Jimmy's dismembered voice came from the kitchen again. "If you're going to keep interrupting, Rog will never get this story out. Now please be quiet Jim." Linda scolded. "Caitlin moved into the house and shared a room with a girl called Elaine. Elaine was a right little slapper, used to jump into bed with just about anyone that brought her a drink." "Soon after she arrived Caitlin made it plain that she fancied me. God she was a real pain, and Kathy used to get real upset if ever she saw me talking to Cait." "Well as far as I was concerned Cait was wasting her time, Kathy was my destiny we had been together three years. And besides the fact, that we had two different homes we were living as man and wife. We just spent half the week sleeping in my bed and the other half in Kath's." "It just after Christmas and I was in my last year at Uni., when Kathy met me from a lecture one afternoon and told me it was over. She announced she was going to marry some guy and fly off to the States with him. I'll never know when she met the guy, Christ she was with me most of the time and had been for the previous three years. I don't know whether she had been playing me for a fool all that time or what. But she was gone and I was left devastated, I loved the girl." "Anyway, I almost had a breakdown. I drank myself silly and missed most of my lectures. Assignments I didn't bother with at all and I was well on my way to flunking out big time. But Jimmy and the boys got tough with me, they made cut down on the drinking and got me to sort out my studies. I found that by throwing myself into my studies I could get through the days." "But the nights, I kept having these terrible dreams, nightmares to me. I would dream about Kathy every night. I tried to get myself just drunk enough to fall into a stupor. But I still had those dreams, in them Kathy and I were always making love." "I'm sorry if this is embarrassing you Linda but you wanted the story and believe it or not this is an important part of it." "No. No. don't worry about me." Lin replied, "You carry on." "Well these bloody nightmares went on and on for months. Until one night I suddenly realised I was awake and I wasn't having a bloody dream! Kathy was jumping up and down on my, Er, penis shagging me. Then I realised, it wasn't Kathy. It was bloody Caitlin. I threw her off me and demanded to know what the hell she thought she was doing." "She sat on the floor grinning at me and told me that she had been coming into my bed almost every night for months and we had been having sex. I wouldn't believe her, but she swore that she had. Well, I kicked her out of my room, convinced she was lieing." "Later in the day I was telling Willie about Caitlin being in my room and having sex with me, and he told me he knew all about it. As Willie put it," "Hey man, you were missing your woman and needed to get laid. We just laced your drinks with some 'Dust' and you didn't know who you were making out with!" "I'm not joking. Willie and Caitlin had been drugging me at night and then when I was high, Caitlin had been coming to my room pretending to be Kathy. I hadn't been having nightmares, I had been stoned out of my bloody mind. When I came down during the day I had just assumed that I had been dreaming." "I went ape-shit at the pair of them. But they didn't seem to think they had done anything wrong. Caitlin said she was in love with me and it was the only way she could get near me. Willie just kept telling me to, 'be cool man, you made out with a beautiful woman'. What was I getting upset about?" "I had to admit Caitlin certainly was a looker, and if I hadn't been in love with Kathy, I probably would have dated her. But I was still hung up on Kathy and I couldn't believe what they had done." "Well, after that the nightmare's stopped, but a month or so later, just as I was taking my finals, the what you might call day-mare started. I got home after sitting a real pig of an exam to be accosted by Elaine." Elaine informed me that Caitlin was pregnant with my kid and demanded to know what the hell I intended to do about it. I told her. 'I hadn't shagged Caitlin. Caitlin had shagged me when I wasn't compos mentis. Caitlin would have to get herself an abortion.' Elaine went loopy and told me Caitlin was a devout Catholic and abortion was not an option. Well what was I going to do? Caitlin was going to have a baby. My Baby! Could be I'm stupid. I had screwed a lot of girls over the years. But always, in the back of my mind I knew that if I got a girl in the family way, I would do what my dad would call, The Right Thing. So two months later Caitlin and I got married. I didn't love her at first, but as time past, I fell head over heals for her. Within the year I would have walked on water for her. Nowadays my heart skips a beat whenever I see her. It did earlier, when she came out of your front door. Everything she has ever asked for, I have tried to give her. Except satisfaction in bed it seems. "Now hold on Rog, you don't know the whole story there!" Linda said. "I know enough Linda! But I have digressed let me finish. Caitlin swears she had not intended to get pregnant when she was getting into my bed after Willie had drugged me. It appears she fell foul of the antibiotic trap. You know it wasn't common knowledge in those days that antibiotics messed up the birth control pill. I have always believed that Caitlin told me the truth about the pill not working. It had been Elaine who told me Caitlin was pregnant, and I know that Cait was extremely angry with her for telling me." "You don't think she got pregers to trap you into marriage then?" "No, That's what most people think. But I am sure she just messed up with the pill. I don't think she would have told me about the baby if Elaine hadn't. Caitlin had already brought her tickets back to Ireland, I found them amongst her things when she was in hospital having Claire. You know up until this last few weeks I have never known Caitlin lie to me, well to be honest I don't think she has ever lied to me and I don't know what Caitlin would have said if I had challenged her about her affair with Tony." "There was no affair!" Linda commented. "What do you call the two of them rolling around on a Motorlodge bed then? After four weeks you can't call it a one night stand." "Well personally, I would call it RAPE! I'm not a judge but I would say, being blackmailed into having sex with someone is rape!" "What?" "You heard me! Tony used blackmailed to get Caitlin into that hotel room. She wouldn't tell us what he was holding over her. Whatever it was, she believes that if you found out about it, you would leave her, so it has got to be something pretty bad. Caitlin told us today, she only went with Tony under duress. Roger you really need to talk to Caitlin get her to tell you what she was so scared of you finding out about." "If she was that worried about it that she shagged Tony to stop me finding out. Cait's hardly going to tell me now, is she?" "Well she might, she thinks she's lost you. You say she has never lied to you. If you asked her a straight question she might think it would hurt you less, if you knew what Tony had used as a lever to get her into bed. You're going to have to talk to her Roger and soon, before it's too late." "What do you mean by, too late?" "I think Caitlin is so upset about this that she might do something silly." "I agree with Linda on that!" Jimmy said, as he came back into the room, "She is very down and was saying some unnerving things earlier." "What kind of things?" "Oh, you know, she said that there was no point in going on without you, and she might as well be dead. Christ, she said it with such conviction, she scared the shit out of us. So much so, that Lin called Carla before you came. She's going round your house to keep an eye on Caitlin and look after her. But we can't watch her all the time. Look Roger, you've got the kids to consider here." "I thought by leaving her with the house and the children, I was being magnanimous. I didn't even contemplate her doing anything silly, I had assumed her had affair because she wanted out of our marriage and she would be happy I was gone." "Well I can tell you, she's devastated that you have left." Linda said, "I've never seen anyone as depressed as Caitlin was today. I know I'm asking a lot of you. But please go and talk to her tonight. You don't need her suicide hanging over you as well." Linda and Jimmy were sure that Caitlin was about to do something drastic and they convinced me that I had to do something to prevent it. Diner was forgotten, as I left them and drove over to my house. End of part Three. Sex, Lies, and Confusion Ch. 04 As I entered my house to find Carla, in the lounge talking on the phone, she gave me a quick smile and nod as she talked. I listened to one side of her conversation. "He's just arrived now." "No, I got Phil to take the children back to our place, they have no idea what's going on, we just told them that Caitlin wasn't well. Roger will have to go and see them later." "We've called the doctor to her, he should be here soon. But we don't want him giving her too many pills and things in the condition her minds in at the moment. Perhaps Rog will be able to calm her down a bit." "OK Jean, I'll speak to you tomorrow. Bye." She replaced the receiver and smiled at me. "Oh God Rog, I'm so glad you're here, Caitlin's in a terrible state. She's in your bedroom, you've got to go and talk to her." "Thanks for being hear Carla, Lin and Jim persuaded me that I needed to speak to her. But I can't undo anything, she started all this." "No Roger, that arse-hole Tony started this! Now we've all got to try and pick up the pieces. We realise you have been very badly hurt, but for the time being Caitlin is still you're wife and she loves you very much. From what she has been saying I don't think she intends to live without you. Please go up there and at least give her some hope. With time she might be able to accept losing you, but she couldn't handle the shock you gave her last night!" I didn't reply to Carla; I went up to the bedroom. Caitlin didn't hear me enter the room; she was lying on the bed, curled up in the foetal position. I could hear her sobbing into the pillow, at the same time she was mumbling to herself. As always my heart tried to reach out to her, and I felt like a piece of shit. I had brought the woman I love to this. But no I hadn't; Caitlin had done the cheating I had just reacted as any man would. I'm only bloody human. "Caitlin." I whispered softy. "Caitlin can you hear me?" Cait stopped crying and slowly lifted her head from the pillow. I think she wasn't sure whether she had imagined my voice or not. "Caitlin I'm here. Do you want to see me?" She turned to look at me, her eyes looked red raw from crying. God she looked like death, no wonder everyone was so worried. "Please Roger, I'm so sorry." I crossed the two paces to the bed and took her in my arms. "Not now Babe, I'm not leaving, I love you. I read it all wrong, I thought you were tired of me." Caitlin started mumbling again, but I couldn't make out what she was saying. "Baby you have to calm down and get some sleep, everything will be alright tomorrow!" I wasn't really convinced of what I was saying. But there are times in life when you just have to say what people need to hear, and this was one of them. A few minutes later the doctor arrived, Carla and I had filled him in on the story, he gave Caitlin a sedative and said he would see her again in the morning. Once Caitlin was asleep. Carla told me that Jean had told her that with the help of the police, she had thrown Tony out of the house. Jean told Carla that she wasn't putting any blame on Caitlin and had called to try to tell her, in the long term she hopped they would be friends again. But of course Caitlin had been in no condition to talk. It struck me that whatever Caitlin had said after I left last night. It appeared to have convinced everyone that Tony was the villain of the piece and Caitlin was the fall guy. I was beginning to wonder how our friends were going to react to me if I were to divorce Cait? At Carla's suggestion I slept in the same bed as Caitlin. Carla thought that if Caitlin wakes up, me being there should calm her down. When I awoke in the morning Caitlin's arms were around me, and it was with some difficulty that I extracted myself. Caitlin was still out of it from the sedatives. Downstairs Carla, who had stayed the night in our spare room had prepared breakfast. We sat to eat it and were just beginning to discuss what was going to happen between Caitlin and me. When suddenly we heard a heart rending scream come from the bedroom. "NNNNooooooooooooooooo! No Oh no!" Carla, who was nearer the door, ran up the stairs with me in close pursuit. We arrived in the bedroom to find Caitlin sitting on the floor beside the bed sobbing uncontrollably. Carla knelt beside her, enveloping Cait in her arms. "Caitlin what's wrong?" she asked. "I dreamt he had come back, he was here with me, but he's not! Oh I miss him so much. What am I going to do?" "I am here Cait! I said in as gentle a voice as I could manage. I haven't gone away again." Caitlin who hadn't seen me enter the room, jumped to her feet and threw her arms around me. I gave her a hug in return. "You must relax Caitlin, because you are making yourself ill. When you feel up to it you can tell me what happened and I promise I will listen to your explanations." "Oh darling I'd thought I'd lost you. Please forgive me." "Cait, I want to forgive you, but I don't know you reasons for betraying our marriage, you are going to have to convince me that I should. But please don't go worrying about it now, Just try and calm yourself down and don't go scaring us like that again. Now I don't want too but I have to go out for a little while and meet Jean." Caitlin gave a start. "Don't go getting exited, Jean isn't blaming you for all this. She called yesterday to make her piece with you. But she needs my help in getting rid of Tony. I've got to meet her shortly, but I'll be back by around lunchtime, you just take things easy and we'll talk later." Carla told me she would stay until Linda came to relieve her. I queried about the children but Carla said they would be all right at her place, as she had the au pere as well as her children's nanny (Phil's a high flyer, money is no object in their home.) but I had better pop in and say hallow to them. After assuring Caitlin once again that I would be back later, I left to meet Jean at the solicitors. My presence was not really required but I wanted to be there for Jean. ----------------------------------------- After Jean had seen the solicitor and put the wheels in motion, we went to a café and had some coffee. Jean was in remarkably good spirits. She informed me that, the Tony we all knew was not the one she lived with. He would put on a front whenever anyone else was present. Jean said he was frequently violent to her, and she knew he had several affairs, but she never had any proof before. When he hit her, he was usually very careful not to leave any marks. "Christ Jean" I said, "Why the hell didn't you tell us that Tony was abusing you?" "You were all Tony's friends, before you were mine." She replied, "I didn't know were your loyalties would lie?" "Bloody Hell Jean, how many times have you heard me say to the kids when they were scrapping, that a gentleman never hits a woman. You should have known that I would have laid Tony out if I knew he had laid a hand on you." "Well I do now, Phil showed me how a real man reacts when a coward hits a woman, I now know you would do the same, you didn't even threaten violence to Caitlin." "I've got question for you Jean. Why are you so quick to forgive Caitlin? She was having an affair with your husband." "Well, after you stormed off last night." I took the dig without comment. "Caitlin came back into the house and started to yell at Tony. He told Caitlin she had better shut her mouth or he'd make sure you found out what ES had told him. Caitlin went quiet and it was obvious to me that he was blackmailing her. That's when I really lost my temper with him. Tony lost it and lashed out at me, and then Phil knocked him out." "ES, are you sure Tony said ES?" "Definitely and it frightened Caitlin, she clamed up the moment he said it." "Oh bugger! Tony must have met up with Elaine and she's told Tony something that Caitlin thought would upset me. Shit! Now things make sense. Cait you silly cow, don't you trust me by now?" "You know what this secret of Caitlin's is then?" Jean asked. "I afraid I do Jean. Unfortunately it makes this all my fault. I should have told Caitlin I knew years ago. But I never seamed to find the right time, I didn't want Caitlin thinking I was holding it against her. In the end I thought it was best to pretend I didn't know and forget about it. Looks like I got it wrong." ------------------------------------------ I arrived back home around twelve, to find Linda had replaced Carla, on Caitlin sitting duties. Caitlin was looking much better and was sat in the lounge. She had made a good effort and looked more like she was going out for the evening, than having and awkward interview with her husband. I think she might have been trying to distract me with her natural beauty. Linda made us a pot of tea and then left us alone to talk. Caitlin poured the tea and then sat looking at me. I thought there was no point beating around the bush, so I asked. "OK Cait, you appear to have convinced everyone that Tony blackmailed you into having sex with him. They say you wouldn't tell them what he used to blackmail you, But now your going to have to tell me!" "I I can't you'll hate me if I tell you. Please I don't want to lose you." "To be honest Cait. You've already lost me! You shagging Tony is a good enough reason for me to divorce you. Now if you've been forced to shag him, I'm willing to take that into account. But you have got to tell me what Elaine told Tony that you didn't want me to hear." My mention of Elaine's name gave Caitlin a shock. I saw her physically jump. "Think about it Cait. You jumped into bed with Tony to stop him telling me something. He could well send me an e-mail or letter to tell me what it was. Then again Elaine could meet someone else and tell them. What are you going to do to keep the next one quiet. Shag them as well?" Cait was crying again. "I can't. I can't tell you! You'll hate me." "Oh shit" I thought, "If you wont bring this into the open I'm going to have to do it!" "OK lets do this a different way. Supposing I make a calculated guess and you tell me if I'm right." Caitlin is looking at me now with wide eyes. "Let's speculate that some young beautiful young woman falls head over heals in love with a self centred Pratt of a university student. The guys an idiot and doesn't realise what a prize he's passing up." Caitlin had a confused and worried look on her face. "Now our beautiful young woman is so in love with this guy she will do just about anything to be near him, but the guy doesn't even give her a second glance. After a time she finds out that her friend is having sex with this guy when he is stoned out of his mind, so she talks her friend into letting her have sex with him. She doesn't take any precautions and gets pregnant. Which was what she really wanted all the time. She figures if she can't have the guy, she'll have his child." "Having got herself pregnant our young woman plans to return to her home in Ireland to have the child. Now her friend does something that she hadn't planned on. Her friend tells the guy that she is pregnant and surprise, surprise the guy goes to the young woman and asks her to marry him. The young woman says she will as she loves the guy, but everyone starts saying that she got pregnant to trap him into marrying her. I'm right so far, aren't I?" "Yeesss." Caitlin said very softly. "Well, shall we say that our young woman, starts to feel unnecessarily guilty about the accusations that she tricked her man. Then her erstwhile friend, who is much more worldly wise, comes up with the antibiotic story to explain why the birth control pills hadn't worked." "But what neither of the girls know is that the guy she married, knew she was never on the bloody pill in the first place. And to complicate things for them in they're later married life, the bloody fool never did get around to telling the woman that he didn't care about the little white lie, he was just happy to be married to the woman he loved." "Oh God darling!" Caitlin said, "You knew all the time that I wasn't on the pill." "Of course I bloody knew, but I could never think of a way to tell you that wouldn't have been calling you a liar after you came up with that story. To me it was a little white lie and I forgot about it years ago. I love you. I married you because I loved you, not because you were pregnant. What was the point in bringing that all up again. You just jumped the gun a little." "But how could you know that I wasn't on the pill?" "Caitlin, that's one secrete I'm not going to divulge to you. But rest assured I knew you weren't on the pill and that Elaine was. As a healthy young student it was, shall we say, my duty to know whom it was safe to shag and who would require measures. Can we leave it at that." Caitlin was smiling now. "You randy bugger. I knew you had a reputation before you got hooked up with Kathleen. But, if you could tell whether they were on the pill or not it looks to me, as if you made an art out of seducing girls." "I couldn't tell if a girl was on the pill by looking at them, I just made it my business to know who was available if I fancied them." "But you didn't fancy me you used to avoid me." "I avoided you because I was committed to Kathleen at the time I met you. Kathleen knew I liked you and would really get out of her pram when she saw me talking to you. I had to blank you, to keep her happy. Then after she dumped me I needed to get my head around my degree, so I steered clear of all women for a while." "But then you went and got all impatient. Once I had graduated, I would most probably have asked you to go out with me, but you kind of jumped the gun on that a little, didn't you!" "So if I hadn't got pregnant you might still have taken me out, and maybe married me?" "The way I felt about you, I should imagine we would have got married in the long term. But then we would have missed out on something very special wouldn't we." "What?" "Claire of course. My little angel!" "Rog am I forgiven?" "No I'll never forgive you for not coming to me and telling me Tony had approached and threatened you. It shows me that after twelve years you hadn't learned to trust my commitment enough." "I'm sorry darling, I promise I'll never mistrust you again." "You had better not! Now don't you think you should go and collect our kids, they'll begin to think something's wrong with our marriage if they don't see us together before long." "Yes darling." Caitlin replied, she came over and gave me a hug and kiss then went out the front door to collect the children. As I watched her drive off Linda came into the room and stood beside me. "So that was it, Caitlin was scared you'd think she'd tricked you into marrying her. She thought you would leave her over that." "So it seems. You've got to remember that she has lived with a lie all the time we've been married. She must have thought that I only married her in the first place because of Claire. I'd have thought she would have realised by now, how much I love her." "Roger I get the feeling your more upset about her not trusting your love, than her going with Tony." "I think I am Linda, Caitlin has now idea how much I love her." "But you were going to leave her!" "I was going to let her go Linda, I had assumed, her going with Tony was a sign that she was fed up with being married to me. I was giving her, her freedom. A way out if she wanted it." "So you're going to forgive her?" "For cheating yes, but not, for not having the trust in my love. I think that's a wound that will stay in my heart forever." ------------------------------------- Three months later we are sat on shores of Lake Balaton in Hungary. Caitlin and I are watching the children swimming with Jimmy and Phil. Carla and Linda are organising lunch in kitchen of the vast Villa we have hired. "Oh God," Caitlin suddenly said, "I just thought how close we came to not being here this year." "Well we are here, so don't go worrying about it." "But I do, I was so worried, I really thought I'd lost you when you made your speech at Linda and Jimmy's diner party. How long had you know about, You know Tony and me?" "A couple of weeks I suppose, but I didn't know who were with until the Wednesday before. When I found out who it was, I could only just control my self, I nearly came in there to kick the hotel room door down." "God, I wish you had, I would have loved to see you beat him up." "No Caitlin, you know that's not my style. If I'd beat him up it would have been over. The fear of my revenge is far worse for him than the revenge itself." "Do you know that Tony has moved once again. The last report I received, he was in the bar of his hotel in New York, when two guys sat at the next table to him. They made sure he overheard them talking about a special contract coming in from an English client. Then they let my name slip. I'm told, Tony checked out of the hotel less then ten minutes later. He's in Chicago now, and one of my Old University pal's there is planning a scare to throw into him there, in the very near future." "How long are you going to keep on frightening him?" "As long as the Pratt keeps moving to places where I've got friends. A lot of people owe me favours. But I should imagine I'll lose track of him in the end." "Poor Jean, you're keeping Tony from contacting her and the children." "Poor Jean, my bloody foot! You really do need to have a long talk to her. Jean and the kid's are my main source of intelligence concerning Tony. He was a right bastard to her and the kid's. They lived in fear of the arse-hole and now they all revel in the fact, I've got him running scared. There's no love lost there." "He is an evil bastard. You should have seen the look on his face when he told me that he new I hadn't been on the pill. He had a really sick grin on his face as he told me, that when he told you he had proof I tricked you, you would leave me. I had worried about that dam story of Elaine's ever since she came up with it. The times I nearly told you about the lie and then chickened out." "Look just forget it will you, I love you and you love me, so lets just be happy. Mind you, there is just one thing that's bothered me." "What's that darling?" "Why the hell did you fuck me crazy before you went to meet the arse-hole?" "Are well, you see he was forcing me to have sex with him. It made him think he had something over you as well as me. Well, I told him that I couldn't have sex with anyone unless they got me in the mood first. He didn't like the idea but I made him eat me out before I would let him shag me. Now, by making sure I was full of your sperm before he got there, I got a little payback. I went to a lot of trouble you know, I got this little plug thing that I kept putting in after you fucked me. After I kicked him in the balls at Linda's place I bent down and told him that he had been eating your cum every time he fucked me, the wimp threw-up all over Linda's new carpet." "You're a sick devious girl Caitlin." "Yea but I'm you're sick devious girl. Now would you like to tell me, exactly when you realised that it was me shagging you and that you weren't dreaming of Kathy?" "Are now, there's a question." "And I like an answer please." "Well let's put it this way, If you take or are given drugs. They sort of lose there effectiveness over time, your body gets used to them and it takes more of them to have the same effect. That's the drawback for your average junky, the more he takes the more he needs. Now Willie slipped the same amount of whatever that dust shit was into my drink every night. By the third week I knew it was Elaine who was coming into my bed." Sex, Lies, and Confusion Ch. 04 "You sneaky bugger!" "Come off it Cait, it suited me down to the ground. I was getting laid every night and I didn't have to waist any time during the day keeping the bitch happy, I needed that time for my studies." "I still think it was sneaky of you." "Anyway one night Elaine came in and you were with her. I heard all you said to her about, if you couldn't have me you were going to have my baby. Well I didn't care I thought you were nice and I had intended to chat you up after my finals anyway. But once you started kissing me I realised I'd been all-wrong about Kathy. From the first night you got into my bed, I knew we were going to get married." "Why did you throw me out of your bed that night, then?" "Ah well, I heard you telling Elaine that you were late and you thought you could be pregnant. I had too bring things to a head a bit quick, before you disappeared off to Ireland. But when I threw you out of my bed, you didn't tell me you had one up the spout." "I was in a bit of a quandary for a while, but then I had idea of winding Elaine up enough to make her tell me. I had a hell of a time getting her mad enough. She really thought she had won a great victory that day." "Roger Parsons you are a mean, sneaky, low down liar. But I love you, now is there anything else I should know?" "Come on darling I've never lied to you; I just didn't tell you the whole truth. You're the one that's got caught out, telling lies." "Well there'll be now more lies between us from now on. Agreed." "Agreed." The End.
