She was already furious, but she quickly became enraged at being struck. Lauren swung back as hard as she could. She felt the man's jaw split against her knuckles. Lauren didn't waste any time as the man fell towards the floor, she spun around quickly. "Are you okay?" "Yeah, thank you for taking care of him. He has been staring at me all night and wouldn't leave me alone." the woman explained as she wiped her hands on her jeans before extending an open hand. "No problem. It's part of the job" Lauren said as she returned the gesture and shook the woman's hand. "Name's Lauren Tripp." "Nice to meet you. I'm Harper Richardson." Lauren looked over Harper quickly. She took note that Harper was wearing jeans and a baggy shirt, to a club, she must be in a relationship then Lauren thought. But she couldn't help but notice Harper's petite figure and perfectly tan, flawless skin. Lauren tried to push her thoughts to the back of her mind, realizing she was still at work and she had to get back. She flashed Harper a crooked smile, "see ya around." She was back behind the bar before Harper could say anything else. She quickly rounded up drink orders and started mixing. It only took seconds for the manager to show up. "Jesus Christ Tripp, what happened to your face?" he said poking at Lauren's swollen cheek. "It's nothing Matt. Just stopped a guy from fooling with some girl who clearly didn't want him around." she replied, never missing a beat mixing and handing out people's shots. "Well next time, let the bouncers handle it." Matt replies as he gestures to Dustin and Nick at the door. "We need you behind the bar." Lauren nodded and continued working. She figured it better to just let Matt pretend he was actually doing his job. Typically Lauren would tell Matt how he was a shit manager and to fuck off, but she didn't have the energy to deal with it tonight. It had been a long week and the night was almost over. She threw back a shot that one of her regulars bought her. The rules were never drink anything a customer buys you, don't want to get drunk on the job. But Lauren's regulars insist on drinking with her and she holds her liquor well. Plus, it's not like Matt actually pays attention anyways. He's usually busy scouting the club for women to torment. Matt is a short, awkward man. He uses more hair gel than any woman Lauren has ever met. It is rare that any girl falls for Matt's lines. They usually just use him to get free drinks and then pretend to be too drunk to go home with him. It was closing time and Lauren counted out her tips. $300 in one night, not too bad, especially for a slow night. She threw her cash in her pocket and headed out the door. It was sort of chilly so she walked faster to her car. As she waited for her jeep to heat up, she texted Jessica. "What are you up to?" "Watching a movie at home. Wanna join? You can stay the night." "Nah I'm pretty tired. I'll just head home. Thank you though." Lauren was hoping she'd want to meet up and drink. She turned the music on her phone on, which was already synced to her jeep stereo and headed home. She tossed her keys on the counter and headed to the fridge for a beer as she sifted through her mail. Bills and more bills. Lauren threw them in trash along with the top to her beer just opened and started to drink. She plopped down on the couch with a heavy sigh. She had big decisions to make in the morning. Half way through her drink she decided to put it on the coffee table and head for the shower. As Lauren waited for the shower to warm up she undressed, throwing her clothes in the basket. Afterwards, she dried off and laid in bed. She laid there, staring at the roof for what seemed like hours before the exhaustion finally set in and she fell asleep. She shot up from bed as she was startled by her alarm clock the next morning. She rubbed her head as she tried to forget the nightmare she had just awoken from. Realizing what time it was, Lauren hopped out of bed and threw on her favorite pair of khakis and grey button-down shirt. She ran to the bathroom to brush her teeth and run her fingers through her bangs, making sure they lay to the side in a perfect yet messy style. She quickly and purposefully fixed her tie in a loose and messy manner around her neck. She grabbed her black vans from the closet and headed to the living room. Completely dressed, she headed downstairs to her jeep. Before pulling out of the apartment complex parking lot, she checked her phone. 3 missed calls and a text from Jessica. "Where are you? You better not be late!!" Lauren didn't bother replying, she just put on her music and headed towards the courthouse. She parked and headed inside. As she approached the metal detectors she took off her shoes and emptied her pockets. She passed through the security device and waited for the guard to pat her down. Her lucky day, the cute guard approached her. As the guard placed her hands on Lauren's shoulders, Lauren gave her a quick smirk. The guard blushed and moved down Lauren's body. As she made her way back up to Lauren's shoulders, she whispered "meet me in the bathroom in an hour if you can" in Lauren's ear before she said loudly "grab your things and move along." Lauren finished putting on her shoes and headed to the designated room where she was met by her sister Jessica, who was pacing back and forth in front of the closed door. "For fuck's sake Lauren, can you ever be early to anything?" Jessica squealed. "Sorry, I didn't change my alarm from the normal time. At least I'm not late." Lauren shrugged. "Well have you decided which story you are going to give?" Jessica attempted to whisper. "The truth." Lauren said as she saw the lawyer walk up to them. "Hello ladies. How are we doing this morning?" their lawyer questioned. The replied almost in unison, "Okay considering everything Linda. You?" Linda gave a sympathetic smile "don't worry, everything will be okay. It should go just as we've practiced. Let's head on in." She held the door open for them. All three women headed to their side of the courtroom. On the opposite side sat Lauren and Jessica's most recent foster parents and their lawyer. All three were in their chairs huddled together, talking. Lauren sat in her chair calmly and showing no emotion as always. Jessica on the other hand was all but in tears. Lauren grabbed her hand and gave it a light squeeze and one of her famous, crooked smirks. Jessica took a deep breath and sank into her chair. Everyone was asked to stand as the jury and then the judge entered the room. As everyone sat back down Linda whispered to them "Let's finish this and then go finish a bottle." The sisters both gave a quick smile. The court officer presented the case to the judge and the judge allowed Linda to make her opening statement. Linda adjusted her skirt as she stood up and cleared her throat. "As we know this is the third case against Mr. and Mrs. Smith. The reports have been made in the previous two cases on how the married couple mistreated all the children they have fostered. But this case shines a true light on what really occurred and just how brutal this couple was. In the other cases, we heard how Mrs. Smith forced the children to eat only once a day and when they did eat it was what was leftover from the rest of the family's meal, Mr. Smith had the children scrub floors and baseboards with toothbrushes and when they didn't get every single spot they were forced to stay outside, trapped in a hole in the ground that was barred with a gate over top. But today we bring in two sisters who went through even more troubling events than the two previous children." As Linda sat back down and rested a hand on Jessica's, who was twirling her thumbs nervously, the Smith's lawyer stood up and began his opening statement. "While the statements made from the first two cases may have been true, we have proved over and over again this loving couple was only attempting to instill character and proper foundation in the children they fostered over the years. While some may see these accounts as extreme, others would praise Mr. and Mrs. Smith. As for what these two sisters claim they have done, there is no proof. In fact the Smith's daughter Melissa is her today to testify that her parents were always caring and loving towards her and these sisters that they brought into their family." Melissa was brought in by the court officer and sat at the stand. This was the first time in 8 years that Lauren had seen her. Lauren gave a small smile as she saw Melissa sitting in front of her, fat and ugly like her mother. Lauren glanced at Melissa's mother, spitting image. That's exactly what she deserves Lauren thought. Melissa was sworn to oath and the lawyer began his questioning. "So Melissa, are the Smith's your biological parents?" the lawyer started "Yes." Melissa quickly replied. "And Jessica and Lauren? Are they your biological sisters?" "No, mom and dad adopted them when I was 13." "How old were they?" "10 I believe." "Are they biological sisters?" "Yes, they are twins. Mom always said she had wanted twins." "Did you ever feel indifferent towards them? Or treat them differently than the other sisters and brothers you had growing up?" "I didn't feel indifferent, I liked them. They were closer to my age than my other siblings. I wanted them to stay in the family. I treated them as my biological sisters." "And how did they treat you?" "Like crap. They were always rude and only played with each other. Sometimes Lauren would call me demeaning names." To that Lauren couldn't help but let out a small chuckle. Dumb bitch deserved being called a dumb bitch. "How did they act towards your parents?" the lawyer shot Lauren a quick glance. "They were horrible. Never listened or did their chores. I had to do all their chores. Always skipping school and running away." Melissa eyed Lauren. "How did your parents react to this behavior?" "They would ground them. Once they spanked them but it wasn't effective so I guess they didn't see the point in continuing that." "Did they ever treat you any differently if you acted in a similar manner?" "No, well, they spanked me more than once." "Why is that?" "I never repeated the same mistake after being spanked." "So in your opinion, were you treated worse than your adopted sisters? And do you think the type of punishment your parents chose for either of you was wrong?" "No, I think they chose what they thought worked for each of us. They didn't cause any actual pain or anything, just attempted to instill character and good judgement." "I have no further questions for this witness your honor." The lawyer stated before taking his place next to the Smiths. Linda began, "So you are saying that none of the allegations made here are true?" "No they are true but not to the extent that they have been made." Melissa shot quickly. "So you have stated that Lauren and Jessica were only spanked once, correct?" "Yes." "Then explain to me these photos?" Linda turned the court television on and a slideshow of pictures began. There were at least 20 different photos of each sister in a hospital, showing bruises and lacerations on different areas of their body. "I'm not sure. Maybe they are from when they were in a different foster home." Melissa said, shocked at the sight. "That could be so, but here are their health records showing the dates that these photos were taken. And it just so happens, they correspond to the times when the Smith's reported them having runaway." Linda walked the records to the judge for him to look at. "Objection. Is there a question?" the Smith's lawyer shouted. "No further questions." Linda grins. "Okay. We've been at this long enough. Let's take a break. We will resume at 11am." the judge slams his gavel down and leaves the room. Linda and the two sisters go back out to the main hall. "Alright, that went pretty well I'd say. The rest should go just as smooth as we have planned. I'll call you up as the next witness when we resume." Linda gestures to Jessica. "Sounds good. I'm going to go grab a coffee. Want to go with me Lauren?" Jessica said trying to hide her nervousness. "I'll meet you in the cafe next door. I have to run to the bathroom first." Lauren said, adjusting her tie. "Okay, meet you there. You want anything Linda?" "No thank you. I have to make a few calls about another case. Thank you though." Linda gave them both a quick hug and headed down the hall. Jessica walked towards the exit and Lauren headed to the bathroom. She glanced at a clock passing by. It was just over an hour. She walked in and went over to the sink to wash her hands. No sign of the guard. As soon as she got done washing her hands, the guard walked in and locked the door behind her. Lauren gave her a crooked grin. Before Lauren could even introduce herself, the guard unbuttoned her shirt. Lauren shrugged and wrapped her hands around the guard. Removing the guard's bra, Lauren kissed her neck. She made her way up the guard's neck to her ear, she felt the guard shiver. She knew exactly what the guard wanted, it was the same thing everyone wants from her. She smoothly slid her hand down the guard's pants to undo the zipper. The guard slid her hand under Lauren's shirt, feeling her flat stomach, moving up Lauren's long, thin torso to her breasts and gently caressing them. Lauren bit the guard's exposed collar bone firmly as she slid the guard's panties down. She traced down the guard's body with her tongue, kissing her hip. The guard quickly tangled her fingers in Lauren's short, brown hair as Lauren ran her tongue over the guard's clit. Lauren firmly moved her tongue around, digging her nails into the guard's hips. As she continued rolling her tongue over the guard's clit, Lauren felt the guard release and gasp from pleasure. Lauren smirked at the feeling of the guard's orgasm. She began to kiss her way up the guard's body, following the same trail that her tongue did on the way down. She kissed the guard's cheek and made her way back to the sink to wash her face. The guard got dressed and took a piece of paper from her pocket. Lauren watched her in the mirror all the while. The guard gave a wide smile and slipped the piece of paper in Lauren's back pocket, then left without saying a word. Lauren finished cleaning up and headed out of the courthouse towards her jeep. The guard wasn't there as Lauren walked through security. Lauren made it to her jeep and reached for the toothbrush and toothpaste that she always kept in the center console, in case of an emergency. She brushed her teeth and looked at herself in the mirror. She ran her fingers through her hair, it was still in the same messy style as it was when she left this morning. She headed to the cafe, as she promised Jessica she would. Lauren looked at her phone as she walked, 30 more minutes before they had to be back. She walked into the cafe and spotted Jessica instantly. Jessica looked up and made eye contact with Lauren. Jessica instantly lit up and waved Lauren over. Lauren grinned at Jessica and made her way to the table. Jessica had already order Lauren a coffee. Lauren took a sip from her drink. "Took you long enough. I was getting worried that maybe you were sick or something." Jessica snapped quickly. "Sorry, I had to run some cold water over my face. I was falling asleep back in that room. Melissa is so full of bullshit." Lauren shrugged. She didn't want Jessica to know she slept with the guard. Jessica didn't like that Lauren slept around so much, but she knew that Lauren felt that was the only thing people wanted from her. "Yeah we know that, but does the jury? I just hope Linda is right and everything goes according to plan. I am a little nervous about being on the stand." Jessica started fidgeting with her coffee cup. "Hey, it's going to be okay Jess. Just answer the questions like we rehearsed with Linda. Tell the truth and if you get nervous just look at me." Lauren took Jessica's hand and tried to calm her. Some might see their relationship as strange, but if they knew what the two sisters had gone through, they would understand why they are so close. "I know, I know. You have always taken care of me and made sure I was okay. I don't think I would have survived without you." Jessica lowered her head. "Don't say that, you can survive anything." Lauren gave her a crooked grin. Lauren knew it was true to an extent though. Lauren always had to protect both of them. She was the big sister after all. And she didn't want Jessica to ever be hurt. So Lauren acted as the mom, making sure Jessica was always fed and provided for the best Lauren could, under any circumstances. Lauren finished her coffee. "You ready to head back and get this over with?" Jessica took a sip of her barely touched latte "Yeah might as well." They got up and headed back to the courthouse. They did the same routine as they did earlier that morning to get through security. Lauren's guard was back from what Lauren assumed was her lunch break. She patted Lauren down just like she did this morning, only this time, she blushed the whole time. Her voice cracked as she told Lauren to move along, Lauren flashed her a crooked grin. Jessica slapped Lauren across the arm as they walked towards their courtroom. "Really?" "What? I didn't do anything." Lauren knew she had been caught. Jessica always found out anything Lauren did wrong or wanted hidden. "She came onto me this morning. She even gave me her number. But I was good. Scouts honor." Lauren pulled out the piece of paper that she had forgotten about until just now. She glanced at it quickly before shoving it back in her pocket. Donna xxx-xxx-xxxx. They met Linda in front of the door again. She was finishing up a bagel and sipping on some coffee. She finished up her breakfast and swiped away any crumbs on her skirt. "Alright ladies, let's get this finished." They headed in and got situated in their same positions as this morning. The judge came back in and the hearing resumed. "Well Mrs. Stanton, the stand is yours. Call up your next witness." Linda stood and firmly stated "I now call Jessica Tripp to the stand." Jessica wiped her hands on skirt. Lauren swiftly brushed her finger on Jessica's hand. Jessica took the stand and was sworn to oath. Then Linda began. "Ms. Tripp when did you and your sister get placed into the system?" Jessica said with a shaky voice, "When I was 3." "Do you remember where you went when you were first placed in the system?" "Not really. I think we were sent to an adoption center for the first few months. My sister said we didn't get to our first home until right before our fourth birthday." "Yes that matches with the records. Do you know how long you were with that family? And why you were sent back?" "I believe the family did not like having such young children. They wanted older children. We weren't there for even a year." "Correct. How many families were you sent to after that?" "8." "Why so many?" "Well a few of them decided they weren't cut out to be foster parents, one home had too many kids, another family didn't take proper care of us, and another dropped us off back at the center with no explanation." "So you've seen your fair share of homes. And your last home was the Smith's?" "Yes." "Were you and your sister ever separated?" "No, that was another issue with most homes. They only wanted one of us. But our biological mother said she didn't want us split under no circumstances." "Interesting, most centers don't typically care about orders like that. Your mother must have some pull. Do you know who she is?" Emotionless "No, I've tried to find her. But I've had no luck." "I'm sorry about that. So when the Smiths took you in, how old were you?" "I had just turned 10." "How did you like your new home?" Jessica looked straight at Lauren. Lauren knew she was panicking so she flashed her a grin. Jessica took a deep breath and began. "At first it seemed great. They were nice and we had a room upstairs all to ourselves. We even had an older sister. But right around our birthday 11th birthday things changed." Linda noticed Jessica start to twiddle her thumbs nervously. "And what happened around that time?" "I asked if we would have a birthday party. I never had one before. Lauren told me not to ask, but they had been so nice. They said no to the party but we might get a present. So I left it alone until about 4 days before our birthday. They said that I didn't deserve a present because I had been ungrateful for everything they had given us so far." "And was anything else said or done?" "Yes, about two hours after they came to us and said they changed their minds. That our presents were in our new bedroom. At first we stayed in what used to be their guest bedroom. So that day they took us up to the attic and showed us the new room. All that was up there were two sleeping bags and a dresser for our clothes." "So they expected you both to sleep in sleeping bags in an attic?" "Yes and they told us that we were to be up there in bed by 5pm and they would let us out in the morning around 5am to do our chores before going to school." "So they locked you in the attic in the afternoon and let you out in the morning. When were you fed dinner?" "Most of the time we didn't get dinner. Every other day or so we would be given the leftovers from the night before to take to the attic and eat for dinner." "So what did you and sister eat on nights you didn't get leftovers?" "At first we just didn't eat. But Lauren said I was losing too much weight. So she would take extra food from the cafeteria and hide it in her backpack and pockets until we were sent to our room. Then after it sounded like they were watching TV or asleep, Lauren would give me what she had gotten that day." "She gave you everything she had gotten? She didn't eat?" "She wouldn't eat much. I tried to share with her, but she said I needed it more." "So Lauren has pretty much always taken care of you correct?" "Pretty much. She made sure I was fed and had clothes without holes and made it through school. She said that I had to do well in school so I could do something with my life and get out of the hell we were in." Jessica began to tear up, so she paused and focused on Lauren. Lauren watched her intently, then gave her the same smile she always gave her to calm her down. Jessica took a deep breath and continued "Most people don't understand our relationship. But Lauren always took care of me. She did everything she could to protect me. If it wasn't for her, I probably wouldn't have made it through my childhood." "No further questions your Honor." Linda sat down, not wanting to cause Jessica to have an anxiety attack. "No questions, your Honor." the Smith's lawyer coughed. "Very well. Ms. Tripp you may go back to your seat. You may call your next witness Mr. Kennedy." the judge ordered. The Smith's lawyer took a sip of water and stood. "I now call to the stand Lauren Tripp." Lauren adjusted her tie and ran her fingers through her hair. She glanced at Jessica who was clearly holding back tears. Lauren placed her hand on Jessica's shoulder for a second then took a breath and walked to the stand. She took the oath and slouched into the chair. Lauren never showed her emotions. She learned at a very young age showing emotions makes you vulnerable and that was not something she wanted. She was already well prepared to answer all questions with the truth, without revealing too much about herself. Last night she played this out in her head over and over again. She focused in on the Smith's lawyer as he began questioning her. The lawyer started "Lauren, may I call you Lauren?" "Whatever you want, my friends usually call me Tripp." "We will stick with Lauren. I've looked at your records and you are no stranger to the cops." "Objection. There's no question." Linda interrupted. "Sustained. Get to the point Mr. Kennedy." the judged mumbled. "When was the first time you encountered the police?" the lawyer continued. "When I was 8." Lauren said blankly. "What happened?" "I was caught stealing food from the store. The security guard took me in and questioned why I was stealing food and wanted to know where my parents were." "What did you tell the guard?" "Told him my parents were dead and that the food was for my sister." "Why did you lie to him?" "I didn't lie." "Your biological parents aren't dead and at the time you were with a family." "My biological parents gave me and my sister up, so they might as well be dead. The family I was aren't my parents. So it wasn't a lie." "Okay. Why did you have to steal food for your sister?" "The family we were with spent all their money on drugs." "And the money from the government?" "Drugs." "Are there any other times you had a run in with the law?" "Yeah, mainly for stealing, a few times for running away, and a couple times for fighting." "Were you ever sentenced or spent any time in prison?" "I spent a few nights at the precinct. Never anything long term. The cops and judges always said it wasn't serious enough to take up cell space." "So you have had several reported cases of being a problem. What about at the Smith's ever get in trouble with the cops there?" "Yeah, mainly for stealing and running away." "Why?" "Like my sister said they didn't feed us really. I had to make sure she had food." "And the running away?" "I was trying to get us out of there. And a few times we had to go to the hospital." "Why did you have to go to the hospital?" "To get my sister's injuries taken care of." "Not yours?" "Her injuries were more important." "And what were these injuries from?" "Sometimes they would hit us. Mrs. Smith pushed me down the stairs one Christmas morning. Once they had Jessica scrubbing the floor with some kind of chemicals, nearly caused her to lose all feeling in her hands. Made the floor shine nice though, just like they wanted." Lauren looked at the Smiths then back the lawyer. "Were there any other incidences?" the lawyer continued. "Yes. All typically along the same lines. Except," Lauren felt herself get slightly nervous and broke eye contact with the lawyer. She glanced over at the jury. That's when she noticed one of the jurors sitting there, staring at the lawyer, almost on the edge of her seat. She couldn't believe it, the girl from the club that night. She couldn't remember her name, just her perfect face. "Except what Mrs. Tripp?" The lawyer said impatiently. Lauren shot her gaze back to the lawyer. "Except, when Mr. Smith would slip into our room at night. After everyone was asleep. He would lay next to one of us and touch us or make us touch him." "And neither of you ever told anyone about this?" "Jessica told Mrs. Tripp, against my advice. And just like I expected, Mrs. Tripp slapped Jessica across the face. The mark was so bad that Jessica couldn't go to school for the rest of the week." "And why is there no evidence of this in all the medical reports? Why is it that you two are the only foster kids they had that have made these allegations against the Smiths?" "Objection. Badgering." Linda shouted. "I'm done your honor." The lawyer sat down, sort of flustered. "Very well. Your witness Mrs. Stanton." the judge grumbled. "Lauren why didn't you report what the Smiths had done to authorities?" Linda questioned as she stood from her seat. Lauren glanced at the jury again, this time making eye contact with the girl. Lauren stammered "Well, uh," Lauren ran her fingers through her hair and focused back on the questioning "well it wasn't the first time something like this had happened to us. The home we were in before the Smith's did the same thing. When we reported it, nobody believe us. The cops and the agency didn't even try to investigate it. The only reason we were taken out of that home was because the government found out the family was using their money for drugs. So we both decided we would just keep our mouths shut, plus it meant saving ourselves from another beating or chore." "When did these nightly visits with Mr. Smith begin?" "2 months after we moved into the attic." "How often did they occur?" "At first once a month. Then it began to occur more and more often. Eventually it seemed like it was every night." "What exactly did he do?" "He, um, he would touch us. He started at my inner thigh and worked his way up. Or he would unzip his pants and make me rub him. He said if I didn't do what he said he would hurt Jessica. He did the same thing to her. And when she would start to cry, he would grab me by the hair and punch me. He usually hit me in the stomach or chest, because then the marks wouldn't be visible. At first I would fight him, but he was bigger and stronger than me. I bit him once. He shoved himself in my mouth. I bit down as hard as I could. He beat me so bad that I couldn't leave the attic for a month. They told the school that I had mono so they excused the absence. After that I didn't really fight much. I just held Jessica and calmed her when he was done." "How long did this last?" "Until we left the home at 16." "And you didn't report it until the previous foster children began their trials. Why?" "I didn't want to then either. I just wanted to forget it all. The only reason I did was because the police were investigating all the foster kids the Smiths had. Jessica told me we should let the police know but that she would respect my decision if I didn't want to mention it." "And why did you decide to finally agree to testify?" "For Jessica, so that maybe she would be able to live life a little happier. Also, because what the Smiths did to me and Jessica and all the other kids needed to be heard. Some sort of justice needs to be done." "Thank you Lauren. We are done now." Lauren walks back to her seat as Linda begins her closing statement. "So now, the Smiths have already been found guilty on all other charges. You have heard the witnesses here today, you have heard what was done to these two sisters. So the decision is now up to you, the jury, to decide whether or not the Smiths will pay for ALL of their crimes. The plaintiffs rest their case." Linda took her seat next to Jessica. "Very well. Mr. Kennedy, do you have anything to add?" the judge waved his hand. The lawyer stood to make his final statement. "As I have said before, the Smith's have been found guilty of the other accounts but there is no evidence to prove what the Tripps here claim. They may have endured the same as the other children, but the new charges are based on hearsay. It is he-said-she-said, yes there are medical reports of the beatings but not of rape or even the horrendous abuse claims. So yes the decision is yours to make. The Defense rests." The judge began "You have now heard both sides. Jury it is up to you to consider all evidence and statements. The court officer will lead you back to the room to make a decision. We will meet back here tomorrow morning at 9 am for the decision." the judge slammed his gavel down. "All rise." the court officer walked out as everyone stood and the judge left the room. Another officer led the jury out. "You may now leave." Linda and the sisters walked out. Lauren was proud of herself for showing almost no emotion during her testimonial. She knew she stumbled a bit, but she expected it to be a lot worse. As they came to the hallway Jessica gave her a big hug. "Thank you for helping me keep my cool back there. I thought Mr. Kennedy's questioning was going to be a lot harder than it was though." "I did too. He really wasn't even that bad on me." Lauren hugged Jessica back. Linda interrupted, "Yeah I thought he was going to rip you apart Jessica. They must have something planned that I am unaware of. But I am convinced the jury will take our side even though we don't have tangible evidence. Did you see that one juror, she was nearly in tears." "Yeah, she was pretty into it. Who was she?" Lauren grinned at the thought of the girl again. "Keep it in your pants Lauren." Jessica scolded Lauren. "Yes Lauren at least until the trial is completely over and the decision has been announced. Don't attempt anything with that girl." Linda poked Lauren's hip. "Aww come on. I wouldn't do anything like that. I know this is important." Lauren smirked. "I can't believe it is already 2. I've got to head home and get ready for work." "Alright girls, lets meet here at 8:30 tomorrow morning. We want the best seat in the house." Linda winked at the girls. Lauren and Jessica headed to the exit while Linda walked to her office. The guard smiled at Lauren as they walked out. "Scouts honor." Jessica imitated Lauren. "I told you I didn't do anything." Lauren lied. "Come on. We both know I know when you are lying to me. I'm the only person you can't lie too." Jessica nudged Lauren in the arm. "Fine, I fucked her in the bathroom during the break. But I swear she came onto me." Lauren shrugged. "You know Lauren you don't have to sleep with every girl that bats her eyelashes at you. It isn't what every girl wants and it is most definitely not your job." Jessica said seriously to Lauren. Lauren ignored her and kept walking towards the parking lot in silence. Jessica kept on, "You know I'm right. You need to find a nice girl and actually stay with her. Instead of all this one night stand and fucking girls over shit." Lauren looked over at Jessica before wrapping her arm around Jessica's shoulders and hugging her sideways as they walked on. "You coming to the club tonight? We have some new promoter and show." "I'll try. But you know how I get in crowds." Jessica wrapped her arm around Lauren's waist. (to be continued) Emotionless Pt. 02 They got to the parking lot and parted ways to their vehicles. Lauren got in her jeep and waited until she saw Jessica pull out of the lot in her car. She checked her phone. She had a text from Matt telling her there was a work meeting before the club opened. She hadn't been to the last 5 so she figured she'd go to this one. She looked at the time. 2:00 PM. She only had a few hours until the meeting, she saw her other text and opened it. "Hey what are you doing?" it was her friend from the club, another bartender named Jennifer. Lauren replied "Not much. What about you?" as she drove out of the parking lot. She decided to head home and fix something to eat. She was in such a rush this morning she didn't eat breakfast and didn't think to get anything while she was at the cafe during the break. While at a red light, Jennifer texted her back "Just cleaning up around the house. Are you going to the meeting before work today?" Hearing her text message ding as she took off from the light, she responded "Yeah might as well, don't want Matt blowing another gasket like he did when I didn't go to the meeting last month." Jennifer's responses became quicker "Lol, yeah better not push your luck. Want to come over and hang out before the meeting?" "Sure, I have to make a quick stop and I'll be over there." Lauren texted. She wanted to go home and put clothes on more suitable for work, not to mention brush her teeth one more time. She was back at her apartment in no time. She went inside and headed for the bathroom as she undid her tie. As she brushed her teeth she took her shirt off and tossed it with her clothes from the night before. Afterwards she went into the bedroom to grab a shirt. She figured she'd just wear her khakis she already had on as she threw on a plain white v-neck shirt. She ran her fingers through her hair as she walked out the door to her jeep. She texted Jennifer "On the way now." Lauren was at Jennifer's place in 15 minutes. She knocked on the door but she could hear Jennifer's TV blaring and knew Jennifer didn't hear her. So she tried the doorknob, just as Lauren figured, not locked. She went to find Jennifer in the kitchen dancing and doing the dishes. Lauren shook her head and gave her crooked smirk as she knocked on the wall loud enough there was no way Jennifer couldn't have heard. Jennifer jumped as she turned around. "Damn it Tripp, did anyone ever teach you to knock?" "I did knock, just now." Lauren put her keys in her pocket, still smirking. "But really, I did knock and you didn't hear. Plus you never lock your door. I could be a burglar ya know." "Pfft, if you were a burglar, breaking into this house, you'd be one broke thief." Jennifer laughed, washing her hands. "You want anything to eat or drink?" Lauren forgot to grab something to eat at her apartment. She just realized again how hungry she was "Actually yeah, you got something to eat?" Jennifer searched her fridge, "I have some leftover pizza, lasagna that my mom made, or a sandwich." "I'll take the lasagna." Lauren stretched before sitting at the table. Jennifer heated up a plate for both of them. She set the plates on the table, then grabbed a beer for each of them before sitting down herself. "Thanks" Lauren said as she ate. The food was great. It took her a matter of seconds to finish it. She took a big sip of her beer. She took her plate to the sink to rinse it. "Jeez, you act like haven't eaten in days." Jennifer joked. Lauren tried to think of the last time she had eaten. She thought she ate yesterday when she woke up. "The food was just so good, I didn't want to risk it being stolen when that burglar comes." She joked back. Jennifer laughed and rolled her eyes as she took another bite. When Jennifer was done eating the two of them finished the kitchen together. They each grabbed another beer before going to sit in the living room. Jennifer turned her TV to the news, but of course it was a commercial. They sat there watching TV for a few minutes when the news actually came back on. The reporter began talking about a trial that had been going on for a few months now. Something about foster parents who abused, tortured, and raped their foster children. The reporter gave brief statements about the trial that went on this morning but never mentioned names. Jennifer sipped her beer then commented "It's sad what those kids went through. I couldn't imagine going through that. Could you?" Lauren just shrugged her shoulders, taking another drink from her beer. She hadn't told anyone that she had been called upon as a witness for the trial and she most certainly didn't tell anyone what Jessica and her had been through. She was thankful that both sides and their lawyers agreed to keep names out of the hands of the media. Lauren hated being pitied. She worked very hard for the things she had, she didn't want anyone feeling sorry for her and giving her hand outs. She looked at the clock, only an hour until the meeting. "I better start getting ready for work." Jennifer took their empty beer bottles to the trash. Lauren kept watching the news, she heard the shower turn on followed by the closing of the curtains. She leaned back into the couch and shut her eyes. "Tripp wake up. Come on. I've been yelling for you to grab me a towel for like 5 minutes." Jennifer stood in front of her, shaking Lauren's shoulder, naked. Lauren shook her head, trying to wake up. She didn't remember falling asleep or even feeling all that tired. Her eyes focused on Jennifer's body. "Sorry, I just shut my eyes for a second." Lauren sat up. "Yeah, yeah. You need to take better care of yourself. Scarfing down food, falling asleep in the middle of the day. Go clean yourself up." Jennifer turned and walked towards her room, walking with extra pep in her step, knowing Lauren was watching her bare ass. Lauren wiped her hand across her face. It wasn't the first time she had seen Jennifer naked. In fact, when Lauren first started at the club they started dating. They both agreed it would be better they were friends. After all, Lauren was always a better friend than girlfriend. Lauren went to the bathroom and washed her face with some water. She wet her hair and used some gel she found in Jennifer's cabinet, she casually ran her fingers through her. She perfected her messy look and rinsed her mouth out with water. Jennifer came in the room as Lauren was finishing up. Jennifer put her hand on Lauren's hip so she could reach over around her for her tooth brush. Lauren moved her hips towards the sink, where she leaned. She stood up straight and turned around facing Jennifer. "What time is it?" "Almost 5:30." Jennifer mumbled, trying to brush her teeth "How much longer until you are ready?" Lauren moved out of Jennifer's way. "About 10 minutes." "We can ride together if you want. I'll drive." Jennifer nodded, spitting toothpaste into the sink. Lauren went to the kitchen to fix herself some water. She looked outside, raining, the club will probably be slow. She turned off the TV and waited for Jennifer. When Jennifer was finally ready they got in the jeep. They were a few minutes late thanks to the rain and traffic. They walked up to the VIP section where the meeting was. Matt was going on and on about letting the bouncers do their jobs, don't actually drink when customers buy you shots, and no giving free alcohol. Jennifer sat down, Lauren followed suit and slumped into a chair. "Oh how nice of you to show up Tripp. This is your first meeting in what? Oh right since you started working here. Better late than never I guess." Matt grumbled. "Sorry, got caught up in the rain." Lauren was normally a smartass to Matt, but she was tired and didn't feel like arguing. She just wanted to get through this night. Matt ignored her comment and continued with his pointless meeting. Half an hour later they were sent to their stations to clean up before opening. Lauren and Jennifer headed to the main bar. They started cleaning the mixers and glasses while a barback started mopping around them. "Hey Tripp what beers or bottles do you need up here? I'll bring them up in a bit." the barback asked. Lauren took a quick glance at the cooler and back rack. "Case of Bud, Corona, Shock Top, Stella. Maybe some Jack, Crowne, Grey Goose, and Sailor Jerrys. The Spiced Rum. Thanks." Lauren took the tops off some of the more popular mixes and alcohol bottles, putting on the pouring tops. She got out a few mixer cups and shot glasses. She looked over at Jennifer who was almost done with her side. Lauren took two of the shot glasses and filled them with some Jagermeister. She handed one to Jennifer. "To a quick night." Lauren tapped Jennifer's glass, then the bar, then gulped the shot down. Jennifer did the same. It was a tradition for them before each night got started. They had a few more minutes before people would start coming in. Lauren saw the DJ start up the music. Matt was in the process of hiring a new DJ, because the old one was selling heroin in the club. There were a lot of things that Lauren didn't like about Matt, but one thing Lauren did respect about him was that when he found out there was drugs running through his club, he shut the operation down quick. This was the first female DJ that ever came to try out for the spot. She looked up from her system and smiled at Lauren. Lauren couldn't help but smile back. Jennifer gave Lauren a nudge "Uhoh, another target for Tripp." she said mockingly. "What? No. It was just a friendly smile." Lauren smiled at Jennifer. "Sure. Everyone who knows you, knows exactly what that little smile of yours means." "Oh really? What does it mean then?" "Means you will have a new edition to your list soon." The club had opened and a man had just came up to the bar. "Jack and Coke. Start a tab for Singer." the man handed his card to Lauren. Lauren took it and rang it up on the computer behind her. She made his drink and handed it to him. He walked off to a table across the club. Lauren had dealt with many guys like him. Middle-class, married, older guy who is tired of his wife and kids. Here at the club to get laid by some young college girl. He has to get here early so he can get drunk enough to have some courage to even approach the girl he hopes to go home with. Lauren has seen it time and time again, it usually ends with the bouncers escorting him out. Lauren glanced at the DJ again as the bar started to fill up. She couldn't help but look at her, something about her caught Lauren's attention. She went back to working, mixing drinks and passing them out. There was a pretty steady flow of drink orders being made, but it was still slow compared to a normal night. Jennifer was mixing away next to Lauren. Jennifer was a good bartender, she had Lauren to thank for that. Lauren was fast, could multitask, and made the best damn drinks. Everyone knew she was the best bartender at the club and she taught Jennifer everything she knew. Lauren watched Jennifer as they mixed drinks almost in sync. Lauren was proud that Jennifer took to real bartending so well. Before Lauren started working at the club it almost went out of business. However, Lauren used to be a regular there. She hated the cheap alcohol but loved the quiet atmosphere. Plus it was a good way to wind down the night after going to the bigger clubs in town. She could drink there without worrying about all the women eyeing her like a piece of meat. One drunken night Lauren told Matt how his club was shit and she could do a better job bartending by herself. So Matt told her to tend the bar by herself the rest of the night and he would start spending more on better alcohol and get a new staff. Feeling invincible from all the Sailor Jerry's in her system, Lauren took the bet. Little did she know, Lauren was securing herself a job. After the night was over Lauren made around $200 in tips. Matt told her that was the most the entire club had made in months. He offered her a job, she would be lead bartender. She could train which bartenders she wanted and tell him to fire the ones she didn't. Lauren took the job, she was tired of sleeping on her sister's couch, she thought she'd be able to save up enough to get her an apartment and maybe a new car. It took her a week to decide the only staff member there that could be trained was Jennifer. So the next day Matt hired a new staff, keeping Jennifer. Since then, the club has become bigger than any other nightclub in the city. Lauren was closing out some couples' tab when a customer said in a familiar voice "vodka and redbull please." Lauren handed the husband his receipt and credit card when she saw Harper standing there smiling, ear to ear. Last night's fight and the conversation she had with this girl all came back to her, she gave a smile. "Grey Goose, Rain, Skyy, House?" Lauren took the husband's receipt and ran the tip in the computer before putting it in the drawer. "Dealer's choice." Harper chimed. Lauren made Harper's drink "This one's on the house." "Thanks. Do you get a break?" Lauren looked at her watch. "I can take one in about an hour, meet me out back then?" Harper nodded as she took a sip from her drink. She walked off to sit with her friend. Lauren remembered what Jessica and Linda told her this afternoon. She couldn't do anything with this girl until after the trial. Even talking to her put everything done today at risk. But it wouldn't be Lauren if she didn't do things that could screw things up. She looked up at the DJ, but nobody said she was off limits she thought. She looked back to where Harper went, it was now a group of guys sitting there. Lauren looked around, she didn't see Harper. She went back to work, not thinking anything of it. Another hour flew by, Lauren told Jennifer she was going to take a quick break. She quickly headed for the backdoor. There was nobody out there. Lauren leaned against the wall and sighed. She knew she shouldn't have went out there. She looked at her phone. She had a text from Jessica "Not going to make it tonight. See you tomorrow. Don't be late!! Love ya." "See you tomorrow. Love you too." Lauren replied then put her phone back in her pocket. "There you are." somebody slurred as the door shut. Lauren saw Harper stumble. Lauren quickly grabbed her and helped her sit down on an empty crate. "I told you I'd meet you out here." "Very true." Harper mumbled with her head on her hands. "What are you doing here talking to me? You know this is illegal right? I can get in trouble for talking to you." "What, a girl can't go out on a Monday night with her friends to a club?" she drunkenly said. "Out of all the clubs in this city, you come to the one you know a bartender is a major witness in a case you are a juror for?" Lauren said getting angry. "I'm sorry. I just saw you last night and today at the courthouse. I wanted to talk to you. Tell you I'm sorry for what you have been through." Harper looked up at her. "I don't need your pity. How much have you had to drink? I only made you one." Lauren said trying to calm down. "Some guys tried talking to me and my friend. After the bouncer made them leave, we went to the back bar. I've had maybe two or three drinks." "Look I don't want either of us to get in trouble for talking while the trial is still technically going. Here's my number. You call me after everything is done. Let's find your friends." Lauren saved her number in Harper's phone then wrapped Harper's arm around her shoulders and lifted her up. They walked through the door. "Do you see your friend anywhere?" Harper pointed at a wall. Lauren sighed and took a quick look around. She walked back to the main bar and sat Harper down on a stool. She shouted out over the music "Hey Jennifer did you see who she came in with?" she pointed at Harper who was now slouching out of the stool. Jennifer shook her head. "Damn it." Lauren tried sit Harper back up. Lauren went over to the bouncer at the front door. "Hey, the girl over there slouched over at the bar, did you see who she came in with?" "No. Why? Do I need to throw her out or call her a cab?" the bouncer said, still checking I.D.s. "No, it's okay. Where's Matt?" she could feel herself getting angry again. "VIP section I think. Taking surveys of whether the DJ should stay or not." "Thanks Mike." Lauren headed back to the main bar. "Harper did you drive here or did your friends?" Lauren whispered in her ear. Harper reached in her pocket and handed Lauren keys. Lauren took them and went to talk to Jennifer "Jenn, I can't find this girl's friends but she drove I have her keys. Can you hold down the bar yourself? You can take my jeep home." Jennifer didn't bother looking at Lauren "Yeah we are slow. I don't mind. Go get you some." She winked at Lauren. "It's not like that Jenn. I just can't have her passed out on the bar and we both know how the bouncers are." Lauren slipped her keys in Jennifer's pocket and kissed her on the cheek. "Thanks." Lauren tipped herself out, shoving the cash in her pocket, then headed for the door with Harper leaning on her again. Mike held the door for them. Nobody ever questioned Lauren when she left early. Even Matt had given up on yelling at her for it. It's not like she left when they were busy anyways. "Which car is yours Harper?" Lauren tapped her on the shoulder. Harper managed to mumble "Altima." Lucky for Lauren there were only two Altimas in the parking lot. Lauren hit the lock button on the keypad twice, looking for which one's lights came on. Lauren walked over to the black Altima and put Harper in the passenger seat, buckling her up. Lauren went to the driver side and got in. "Where do you live? I'll take you home." There was no reply. Lauren looked over at Harper, she was passed out. "Guess I'll take you to my place." Lauren sighed quietly. She hoped nobody would find out how they knew each other, otherwise they'd both be screwed. She drove them to her apartment. Lauren got Harper into her apartment and into bed. She put ibuprofen and a Gatorade on the bedside table. She looked at the clock "2:00 AM". Lauren rubbed her eyes. She didn't know what time Harper had to be at the courthouse so she figured she'd set her alarm for 7 so she could get ready and they could get there early. Lauren went to the living room. She set the alarm on her phone, took off her shoes and pants, then laid on the couch. She quickly fell asleep. She woke up a few hours later to the sound of her alarm. She reached for her phone, turning the music off, then stretching out before getting up. She rubbed the sleep from her eyes. Lauren quietly opened the door to the room. Harper was still asleep, but the Gatorade looked like it had been drunk. Lauren made her way to the closet to get some clothes. With her clothes in hand, she tried to make it out of the room to the bathroom without making a noise. She put her clothes on the toilet and got undressed. She looked over at the clothes basket, it was time for her to do laundry. She stepped into the warm shower and let it run over her, covering her tall, thin, muscular body. She slicked her hair back out of her face. Finished showering, she realized she didn't have a towel. She left hers from last night in the bedroom. "Damn it." She hoped Harper was still sleeping. She left her clean towels in the hall closet, so she wouldn't have to go back into the room to get one. She listened carefully to see if she could hear Harper moving throughout the apartment, it was silent. She stepped out of the shower and opened the door. She walked to the closet, so far so good. As she reached for the towel she heard a gasp. Lauren quickly wrapped the towel around her body and shut the door. She looked at Harper who was standing in the bedroom doorway with her mouth wide open staring at Lauren's body. Emotionless Pt. 02 "I'm sorry. I forgot my towel and didn't realize until after I showered. I was hoping you'd still be asleep." Lauren said nonchalant. She figured this would happen, it was just her luck, there was no reason to be embarrassed. Harper's face grew red "It's ok. How did I get here? Where am I? Did we...?" she started to trail off. Her face now as red as a cherry. "Calm down 20 questions. You were very drunk and I couldn't find your friends. So I took off early and brought you here. I was going to take you home but you were already passed out when I tried to find out where you lived. And no, we didn't have sex. I put you in my bed and I slept on the couch. What time do you have to be at the courthouse?" Lauren walked to the bathroom. "Fuck. I am so sorry. Um I have to be there around 8:30. What time is it?" Harper headed to the bedroom to take the medicine that was left out on the nightstand for her. "It's 7:15. Once I get dressed we can go to your house so you can get ready. If you don't mind, I need a ride to the courthouse. My sister can take me home from there. But a coworker has my jeep." Lauren put on her briefs and slid on a button down shirt as she spoke. "I have clothes in my car actually. I can just get ready here. If you don't mind that is." Harper walked to the bathroom, trying to avoid watching Lauren's body. "That's fine. I'll go grab them for you. There's an extra toothbrush in that drawer. Towels are, well, I guess you know where those are eh?" Lauren grinned as she pulled on her dark-wash khakis. Harper laughed and rolled her eyes. She started to get undressed. Lauren left as soon as she noticed Harper was taking off her clothes. She put on her Vans and grabbed Harper's keys. She found a bag of clothes in the trunk and headed back inside. She laid the bag on her bed, on the way to the kitchen she shouted at the bathroom door "your bag is on the bed." Lauren went to the kitchen and looked in her cabinets and fridge for food. She figured she'd make some breakfast. She didn't have much. It was rare that Lauren felt like or even remembered to eat. She was used to going days without meals, so she didn't keep many groceries other than beer. She found a bag of bagels and cream cheese that she had bought a few days ago. She put a bagel in the toaster and made two glasses of water. Harper came out of the bathroom, grabbed a towel out of the closet and headed to the bedroom. Lauren couldn't help but notice. Her eyes skimmed Harper's short, petite body. Lauren shook the thoughts from her head, she promised Jessica not to do anything with this girl. "When you are done, I made breakfast." Lauren grabbed the bagel from the toaster and put cream cheese on it. "Thanks." Harper replied from the room. She quickly came out, all dressed up. She was in a nice red shirt with a black blazer and black skirt that matched. She wore black, pointed heels. Her hair was up in a perfect ponytail. Lauren looked up from her half of the bagel and gave Harper a crooked smirk. Harper went to the counter and took her half of the bagel. "You are a regular Rachael Ray aren't you? She took a bite. "I try" Lauren finished her bagel and took a sip of her water. She headed to the bathroom and brushed her teeth. Then she did her regular routine for her. She sprayed on some cologne, when she came out, Harper was putting up the dishes. "You don't have to do that. I will do it when I get home later." Harper continued what she was doing "it's the least I could do. Plus I'm already done. Ready to go?" Lauren nodded. She grabbed her wallet and phone from the living room while Harper got her things. They headed out together. Harper drove to the courthouse. "Should I park farther back? So nobody sees us together?" she asked as the pulled into the lot. "Yeah I think so and I'll walk in first." Lauren agreed with her. "Okay. I have to go in through the juror entrance anyways." Harper pulled the car into a spot in the very last row. They headed their separate ways to the same destination. Lauren went through the same way she did yesterday. The guard wasn't there this morning though, probably had the day off. She went the security routine and headed to the courtroom. Of course Linda and Jessica were already there. Jessica immediately saw Lauren "You look horrible." She hugged Lauren's neck. "Thanks, asshat." Lauren hugged her back. "Alright ladies. The judge said the jury was able to come up with a verdict on the case." Linda said in a singsong voice. "All we have to do today, is go in and listen." "Sounds good. We can we go in?" Lauren asked. "We can sit now, but it doesn't start for another 15 minutes." Linda replied. "Well let's go." Jessica said. They headed inside and took their seats. Jessica looked at Lauren "What time did you get off last night?" "Around 1 AM. I had to take off early." Lauren replied. "Then why do you look like you haven't slept?" "I don't know. I'll be okay. I have tonight off." They sat there in silence until everyone came in and the jury and the judge sat down. The judge grumbled "The evidence and statements have been presented to the jury. They have readied their decisions. Juror number one please stand." The juror did as told. "For the count of abuse, how do you find the defendants?" The juror replied "Guilty." "For the count of neglect, how do you find the defendants?" the judge continued. "We find the defendants Guilty." "And for the count of rape, how do you find the defendants?" "Guilty." "The jury has made it's decision. Guilty on three accounts. The defendants are hereby sentenced to 5 years on each count, in addition to their other 50 years." the judge banged his gavel and walked out. Mrs. Smith began to cry. Mr. Smith stared off into space. Their lawyer escorted them out of the room. Linda stood up and turned to the sisters. "Congratulations girls, justice has been served." "Thank you." Jessica and Lauren said. Jessica gave Linda a hug, Lauren shook her hand but Linda pulled her in for a hug. "Keep in touch okay?" Linda gave them a final hug and left the room. The sisters left shortly after her. "Hey can you give me a ride home? Jennifer has my jeep." Lauren asked. "Then how did you get here?" Jessica questioned. "Come on, stop with the questioning. Can I get a ride or not?" "Fine. But you better have not went to that guard's house." Lauren shook her head and followed Jessica to her car. As they were walking out Lauren texted Jennifer "Can you come over? Bring me my jeep, I'll take you out for lunch." They got to Jessica's car. Lauren looked over towards Harper's car. She could see her walking towards it. Harper noticed Lauren to and smiled at her. Lauren smiled back. Jessica looked at Lauren then Harper. "Are you serious? Is that how you got here? What did we tell you?" Jessica questioned sharply. Lauren sat down in the passenger seat "She came in the club last night wasted. I couldn't find her friends so I took her to my apartment and let her sleep in my bed. I slept on the couch. Nothing bad. Promise." "You better hope nobody ever finds out about that. Or the both of you will be in serious shit." Jessica scolded her. "I know. I didn't want to, believe me. I even told her not to talk to me until after the trial but I couldn't leave her there or let the bouncers take care of her." Jessica shook her head and took off towards Lauren's place. "When are you getting your jeep?" "Whenever Jennifer wakes her lazy ass up." Lauren checked her phone. "So tomorrow?" Jessica laughed, "What are you doing today?" "Hanging out around the apartment. Have to do laundry and maybe clean. What about you?" "I have a job interview later. Personal Assistant." "Goodluck." They pulled up to Lauren's apartment and she got out. "Thanks for the ride. See you later." "See ya." Jessica left. Lauren's phone went off as she walked to her door. It was from Jennifer "Be there in 30." Lauren went inside and turned on the TV. She sprawled out on her couch. An hour later she heard a knock at her door. She checked, it was Jennifer. She opened the door, "Took your time didn't you." "Listen Lauren I'm so sorry. Please don't be mad at me okay." she stammered. "Calm down, I don't have anything else planned today. It's not a big deal." Lauren knew something was up. Jennifer rarely called her by her first name. "No not that. Lauren I'm so sorry. Your jeep. I got in an accident on the way home. I must have dozed off." Jennifer said hurriedly. Emotionless Pt. 03 Lauren wasn't sure what she had just heard. She stood in her doorway in shock for a few seconds before she was able to get words out of her mouth "What do you mean you got in accident? Are you okay? What happened to my jeep?" "I'm okay. Just a little sore. But your jeep, it's pretty bad. I'll pay to fix it." Jennifer weaseled her way past Lauren into the living room. Lauren walked out to find her jeep in the lot. She couldn't believe it when she saw it. The entire passenger side was crushed in and her cover, what was left of it anyways, was hanging down in shreds. It looked like the jeep was hit by a train, Lauren knew there was no way it could be repaired. The jeep was the first thing Lauren bought with the money she saved from the club. She spent every dime she had on it. She knew she shouldn't have let Jennifer drive home, but she didn't really have another option. She went back inside and grabbed her keys. "Where are you going?" Jennifer shouted from the couch. "To see what the dealer can do about my jeep. I'll be back then, I'll take you home." Lauren said as she walked out. She drove off to her dealer's lot but unfortunately he told her there wasn't much he could, her insurance would total it out and she could use that towards a new vehicle. She made the claim with her insurance over the phone and they told her how much she could expect. She told the dealer she would be back in a week and they decided she would use the claim money for a new jeep. Lauren didn't realize she had been gone for almost two hours until she got home and Jennifer started on her "Damn it Tripp, I thought you were only going to be gone for a few minutes. I'm starving and you don't have a thing to eat in this shithole of an apartment." Lauren was slightly offended. She really liked the look of her apartment. Sure there wasn't much food and it wasn't very homey, but it was Lauren's and that made it perfect. "I don't know Jenn. Maybe I was off fixing your fuck up again. I can't believe you totaled my fucking jeep. Come on, I'll take you home." Lauren felt her anger begin to bubble but she tried to calm it. Jennifer got up with a groan. "I'm sorry Lauren. I really didn't mean to." "I know. Just, let's go, we can stop and get lunch. But you're paying." Lauren followed Jennifer out of the apartment. "I guess it's the least I could do." Lauren took Jennifer home. On the way they stopped at their favorite diner for lunch. They both got their usual, Lauren a cheeseburger with fries and Jennifer chili with a milkshake. Jennifer actually paid this time. Lauren finally got Jennifer home. "Thanks for the ride home. I'm sorry for your jeep, again." "It's fine. I'll figure it out, I always do." Lauren rubbed her forehead. "Oh come on. How about you come inside? I'll make it up to you the best I can." Jennifer slid her hand over Lauren's thigh. Lauren looked at her, "When was the last time you got laid?" "What? I'm just trying to make you feel better." Jennifer pled. Lauren knew that was a lie. Jennifer always tried to have sex with her when she hadn't gotten it from anywhere else. "Fine" Lauren got out of the jeep. As soon as Jennifer shut the door behind Lauren she kissed turned and kissed Lauren deeply. Lauren kissed her back, pushing her against the front door. Jennifer moaned into Lauren's mouth. Jennifer pushed Lauren back, leading them into the living room. Jennifer pushed Lauren onto the couch then took her shirt off before straddling Lauren's lap. Lauren ran her long, thin fingers across Jennifer's familiar stomach. She traced down to Jennifer's pants, unzipping them, exposing her lace panties. Lauren sat up and kissed Jennifer's hip as she rubbed Jennifer's clit through her panties. Jennifer leaned back and let out a moan. Lauren carefully slipped her fingers through the top of Jennifer's panties and into her. Jennifer gasped as Lauren started to push in and out of her. Jennifer leaned down, kissing Lauren's ear. Lauren moaned, feeling blood rush to her ear. She began to thrust into Jennifer faster. Finally, Lauren felt Jennifer tighten around her fingers then relax. Lauren felt Jennifer try to catch her breath. Lauren kept moving in and out of Jennifer until she felt her release again. Lauren took her hand out of Jennifer's pants and smiled up at her as she laid back. Jennifer took Lauren's hand, she began to suck on Lauren's fingers. As she sucked and licked, Lauren couldn't help but to groan in pleasure. When she was done, Jennifer leaned down and whispered into Lauren's ear "see don't you feel better now?" Lauren gave a small smirk, "It'll do." "I'll take that. What are you doing tonight?" Jennifer moved off Lauren's lap and sat next to her on the couch. "Nothing." Lauren ran her fingers through her hair. "I'm thinking of going to the club later. Maybe have a few drinks and hang out. Want to join?" "Maybe. I'll text you later." Lauren got up and headed out of the door. She was in a pretty bad mood so she decided to head home and lay low for the rest of the day. She stopped at the store to get some groceries before getting home. She figured she keep some sort of food there. When she got home she picked up around her apartment and did her laundry. She slumped down on her couch around 6. She sat there for a few minutes staring at the wall in deep thought. She thought about Harper and wondered what she was doing. Harper was the first girl to ever stay over at Lauren's and not sleep with her. Lauren closed her eyes for a few seconds, lately she had been so tired. Lauren woke up startled, her nightmares were coming back. She thought she had finally pushed them back far enough that they wouldn't bother her anymore, but with the trial everything was coming back. She rubbed her forehead and looked at the clock. 8:00pm. She couldn't believe she fell asleep again. She hadn't felt like herself for the past few weeks and decided it was time to have a little fun. She pulled her phone from her pocket and called Jennifer. Jennifer answered "Hey babe, calling for round two?" she laughed. "Hey, still going out tonight?" Lauren ignored her comment. She only slept with her this afternoon because she knew that's what Jennifer wanted and it helped her relieve some stress. "Yeah, I'm about to start getting ready. Liv, Jane, Sara, and Sara's new boyfriend will be here in a few for pre-game drinks. You coming?" "Yeah. I'll head that way in a few. Just have to get ready. Do I need to bring anything?" "Nah, I have vodka and beer. So if you want anything else, just that." "Okay, see you in a bit." Lauren hung up. She got up and headed to the bathroom. She showered and brushed her teeth. She walked to her closet with the towel wrapped around her waist. Her exposed nipples hard and perky from the chill in the air. She grabbed a black button down and a pair of dark washed jeans that had a tear in the mid thigh of one leg. She slipped on her boxer briefs, then her jeans which sat on her perfectly so that the top of her hip bones were still exposed. She put on her belt and grabbed her shirt. She buttoned up her shirt, leaving the top button undone, showing her chest and the chain of her necklace. She put on socks and her black Vans. She went back to the bathroom and used some gel for her hair. She pushed her bangs to the side and pushed them back. She ran her fingers through her hair so that it looked purposefully messy, which helped with her cowlick that never laid down right. She opened up her cabinet and grabbed one of her bottles of cologne. She sprayed both of her forearms and neck. Lauren glanced at the clock in her room, 8:30. Jennifer was probably just getting ready. Lauren looked through her cabinets, she still had a bottle of Sailor Jerry's Rum that she took from the club a month ago. She grabbed the bottle and left. On the way out, she picked up her keys and wallet. She got to Jennifer's and saw the cars parked on the side of the road, in front of Jennifer's house. Lauren pulled up next to Jennifer's car. She heard the laughter from outside as she walked up to the door. She thought about knocking but knew nobody would hear, so she just walked in. Everybody was in the living room drinking and joking, except Jennifer. "Hey Tripp." Jane and Liv said as she walked in. Sara just glanced up and back down as she saw Lauren walk in. Sara put a hand on her boyfriend's thigh. Sara didn't like Lauren, probably because Lauren refused to sleep with her again. On one of Lauren's drunken nights out with the group, Sara followed her in the bathroom and came onto Lauren. Lauren feeling too tipsy to process anything, she fucked her in the stall. But after that night, Sara became obsessed and believed that her and Lauren were together. Lauren explained that it was a one time thing, that until then everyone thought Sara was straight. Lauren stopped hanging around them for a few months after that. Ever since they started going out together again Sara made sure to have a boyfriend with her and all but fucked him when Lauren was around. Lauren waved at them all and went to the kitchen to fix her drink. After she fixed her glass, she went to Jennifer's room and plopped down on the bed. "Still not ready yet?" Lauren took a sip from her glass. "Well I was waiting for you to get here so I could get dressed in front of you. I know how you like the sight of me naked." Jennifer joked as she tossed possible outfits on the bed. Lauren trying to dodge the clothes replied "Meh been there, seen that. Nothing new." "Oh whatever you bitch." Jennifer walked out of her closet with a grey top and jeans with holes in the knees. "What do you think about this?" Lauren smiled "The shirt looks good, but the jeans? Everyone will know you are always on your knees." Jennifer walked over to Lauren and popped her on the shoulder, "You are such a dick." "You like my dick the last time I checked. Try these instead." Lauren handed Jennifer a pair of black shorts. "What's not to like about a fake dick? Real ones are usually gross and hairy." Jennifer put on the pants and the shirt. "What shoes?" Lauren looked at all the shoes on the floor for a second "Those." She pointed to a pair of black and white Converse. Lauren finished her drink. Jennifer sat next to Lauren and put on her shoes. "Will you fix a drink for me? Vodka and Red Bull." Lauren got up "Anything else Princess?" She smiled and walked to the kitchen. By the time she finished making the two of them drinks, Jennifer was in the living room. Lauren handed Jennifer her drink, then sat on the floor. "So where are we going tonight?" Jennifer asked. "We can just go to Ground Zero. Didn't they just hire a new DJ?" Liv said sipping her drink. "Yeah, she's pretty good. Right Tripp?" Jennifer grinned at Lauren. "Yeah she's definitely better than the last guy." Lauren agreed. "Plus she's pretty hot. Tripp's already set her sights for her. Maybe she'll get lucky." Jennifer finished her drink. "Uh oh" Jane smiled at Lauren. "I don't set my sights for anyone. What happens, happens." Lauren finished her drink and lifted her glass towards Jennifer. "Mhm, sure." Jennifer grabbed Lauren's glass and went to the kitchen to fix another drink for them. They all sat around drinking and joking with each other. After the alcohol was gone and they were all feeling pretty good they decided it was time to go to the club. They loaded up in Jennifer's Altima. Lauren was nominated as driver because she was the most sober of everyone, she had a high tolerance for alcohol. They got to the club and went in through the back door. They headed to the bar and ordered drinks. Everyone headed to the dance floor. The new DJ must have really made an impression because she was back tonight. She was playing a dubstep remix of "Oh Well, Oh Well" by MayDay Parade. Lauren was amazed at the DJ's skill. Lauren glanced up at her. The DJ was staring right at her as she mixed the music, dropped the bass and wobbled. Lauren kept dancing with Jennifer. "What are you grinning at?" Jennifer yelled over the music. Lauren didn't even notice she was smiling. She took a sip of her drink "Nothing." She stopped dancing and walked off to the V.I.P. section. She sat in the oversized chair, listening to the music. It sounded like it was put on a general playlist. She looked over at the DJ stand, the girl was gone. Lauren couldn't see her in the crowd. She finished her drink. She saw her friends still dancing on the floor so she headed for the back door to get some fresh air. When she got out there she saw the DJ leaning against the wall smoking. When she heard the door shut she looked over towards Lauren. Lauren sat on a crate and rubbed her forehead, not realizing that the DJ was looking at her. "You alright?" Lauren heard a voice question. She looked up then she noticed the DJ looking at her. "Yeah, I'm good. Just been a long week." Lauren replied. The DJ walked over to Lauren "Aren't you a bartender here?" "Yeah, I'm here with friends tonight though." "Mhm, I saw you walk in through the back with them. My name's Jessie" She put out her cigarette and stretched her hand out towards Lauren. Lauren shook her hand "I'm Lauren, everyone calls me Tripp." "So where's your girlfriend tonight?" Jessie asked. Lauren was confused "I don't have a girlfriend." "Oh I saw you last night with some girl. She was clearly drunk. You practically carried her out of the club." Lauren realized she was talking about Harper. "She's not my girlfriend. I really don't even know her. She was very drunk and I couldn't find her friends. So I took her home." Jessie shrugged, "Well good. Didn't want to have any competition." Lauren was baffled by her comment. Normally she is the casanova in the situation. "Oh really? Maybe I'll just give the girl a call and get to her before you can." Lauren said pretending to not realize Jessie was talking about Lauren. Jessie smiled "Cigarette?" "No, I quit a while back." Lauren shook her head. "Yeah me too." Lauren was completely shocked by this woman. She was intrigued by this woman. She wanted to keep talking to her. She had never had this feeling about anyone. "Well I better get back to my friends." Lauren stood up and adjusted her jeans. Jessie nodded "Yeah I should get back to work. Wouldn't want Matt to decide he doesn't like me after all." She gave a small laugh. They walked back in. Jessie headed to her stand, Lauren went back to her friends on the floor. Lauren started dancing with Jennifer again. "Where did you go?" "Outside for some fresh air. Is that okay?" Lauren joked with her. "You could have at least brought back another drink." Lauren noticed Jennifer's words were starting to slur. "I think you've had enough Jenn." Lauren said as they danced. Jennifer rolled her eyes then turned around and pushed her ass into Lauren. Lauren put her hands on Jennifer's hips as they moved together. Lauren looked up at Jessie who was very focused on the computer in front her. Lauren was finally starting to feel buzzed, everything that had gone on in the past few weeks left her mind. Lauren and Jennifer headed back to the bar to get another drink. Jennifer already had too much to drink, but Lauren didn't feel like arguing with her. Lauren wanted to keep her good mood. Lauren looked over at Jane and Liv, they were each dancing with a girl. Looked like they were getting laid tonight. Lauren turned to make a comment to Jennifer but Jennifer was no longer next to her. Instead it was an older woman with long, dirty blonde hair and large breasts, that were clearly fake. The woman smiled and sipped on her martini. Lauren gave her a crooked smile. The woman took her olive and circled it around the rim of her glass. "Hi sweetie." Her voice was slightly raspy and she had a British accent. Lauren was feeling pretty good by now and figured she could have some fun. "Hey, can I get you another?" She pointed at the woman's half empty glass. The woman nodded and finished her drink in one large gulp. Lauren flagged the bartender "How about another martini for this young woman here? And another Sailor Jerry for me." The bartender quickly had their drinks made. Lauren was pleased, this was a bartender Matt hired that didn't need any training. Lauren and the woman grabbed their drinks, "Cheers" the woman said clinking her glass against Lauren's. Lauren nodded and sipped her drink. "My name is Lauren." "Very nice to meet you Lauren. I'm Kimberly." she said seductively. Lauren liked the woman's accent. She placed her hand on Kimberly's and led her to the floor. Kimberly moved against Lauren as they danced. She turned around, pushing against Lauren. Lauren wrapped her hands around her and kissed her neck. Kimberly pushed her back against Lauren's chest. Lauren glanced up at Jessie, there was a short haired girl kissing on her neck. Lauren felt a deep pang in her gut, it was a feeling she had never felt before. Kimberly turned around then whispered in Lauren's ear "Can I take you home?" Lauren nodded. Kimberly led her through the crowd. Lauren took one last look at the DJ stand. Jessie was in the middle of a deep kiss with the petite girl. Lauren followed Kimberly to her car. On the drive to Kimberly's house, Lauren sent Jennifer a text "Got a ride home. Be safe tonight. Call if you need anything." Kimberly pulled the car into the driveway of what looked like a three story house. Lauren thought normally women like this were married, she hoped the husband wouldn't barge in or show up in the morning. She hated having to sneak out. Kimberly put the car in park and placed her hand on Lauren's lap. "Here we are." Lauren got out of the car "This is a nice place you have here." "Thank you, I've worked very hard for it." Kimberly locked the car as they headed towards the door. They went inside. "Would you like a drink Lauren?" Lauren could feel herself starting to sober up, "Please." "Scotch or Whiskey?" Kimberly asked as she headed towards a bar in the back of the living room. "Scotch." Lauren hadn't had a good scotch in a long time. Kimberly brought back a glass for Lauren and a glass of wine for herself. Lauren took a sip "That is some damn good scotch." "I'm glad you like it. It belongs to my ex." Kimberly casually drank from her glass sitting down next to Lauren on a couch. Lauren was glad to hear Kimberly say ex. It meant she shouldn't have any worries. Kimberly placed her hand on Lauren's thigh the same way she did before getting out of the car. She slowly started to move her hand up and down Lauren's thigh. Lauren leaned back, finishing her drink. Lauren moved her hand to Kimberly's back as she sat her glass on the table on the other side of her. Kimberly slipped her hand between Lauren's legs. Lauren dug her fingers into the small of Kimberly's back. Kimberly moaned, Lauren leaned over kissed Kimberly's neck. Lauren felt Kimberly's breathing become faster. Just as Lauren was moving her hand over Kimberly's waistline, a car pulled into the driveway. Kimberly jumped up. She went over to the window to see who it was. "Shit" Kimberly adjusted her pants and shirt. "It's my ex. I don't know why she is here." "I'll leave. Where's the back door?" Lauren got up and ran her fingers through her hair. "No it's okay. I'll see what she wants and make her leave." Kimberly walked to the front door to open it for her ex. While she was questioning her ex, Lauren went to the kitchen and found the back door. She quickly headed out. There was no need for Lauren to stick around. She knew Kimberly and the ex would probably start fighting if the ex knew Lauren was there. Lauren walked out into the backyard. It was huge with a big pool and a jacuzzi. She went around the house and began walking home. She checked her phone, it was 3 in the morning. Lauren decided to walk to Jennifer's house to get her jeep. She got there about 30 minutes later, Jennifer wasn't back yet. Lauren figured she went home with some guy. Lauren got in her jeep and headed home.
