Remember to comment and vote! -S *** Chapter 20 Pinching the bridge of his nose, Day mumbled something unintelligible and rubbed the sleep from his eyes. Next to him Beth mumbled incoherently, changed position and fell back asleep. Day turned and propped himself up on his elbow, watching Beth sleep. Beautiful, he thought, reaching up and smoothing her wayward curls from her face. He watched Beth blink open an eye, looking up at him through a cloud of sleep. Day was taken aback by the pure warmth of her smile, the feeling of rightness there. This is right; this is how it's supposed to be. Day thought reaching down and taking her lips in a soft kiss. He had known the woman less than a week, less than a few days, but in that span of time they had come together, both healing each other in some way. "Ugh! Don't kiss me I have morning breath." Day heard Beth mutter against his lips as she shifted, pushing him back and settling her head on his chest. Day gave a small chuckle, relaxing back down into the sheets, watching as Beth's head lifted from his chest. "What?" she asked curiously, blowing a strand of hair from her eyes. "You." Day gave as an answer, shifting her body so she was astride him, their eyes level. "You look beautiful in the morning, and I can't even tell you have morning breath." Day said, once again kissing her. Beth sifted on his erection, raising up and lowering down, impaling herself on him. "That's just because you know you're gonna get some. Men suddenly can't see any of our flaws when they're getting some good ol' fashioned lovin'". Beth said breathlessly, beginning to ride him with a languid pace. Day gripped her hips, helping her to rise as he watched her through the light streaming in from the windows. She was wrong of course, it wasn't because he was balls deep inside her that he thought she was beautiful, she simply was. It was that messy beauty, the kind you discovered after everything in your life fucked up. Sort of like wading through a pile of shit for a one of a kind ruby, Beth was worth it all. There was no rush to their lovemaking, it wasn't about achieving an earth shattering orgasm, but more about a giving of pleasure; Beth giving her body to Day, and Day failing miserably at not giving his heart over to her. And just as they reached their peaks, cries mingling, tongues entwined, Day's eyes popped open on a startling thought. Condom! Grabbing Beth's hips he tried to pull out of her, but she was gripping him hard, her nails digging into his chest. "Please..." Day heard her mutter against him, her hips swiveling, her thighs gripping. Day tried to stave of his orgasm, tired to think of dead puppies and zombies and... But it was too little too late, and his hips gave an involuntary thrust up, arms locking around her frame and pulling her closer, nose buried in her hair, Day came hard. Beth cried out against his chest, and Day could feel her gripping his dick trying to prologue her own orgasm. Slowly they settled, and gently Day slipped out of her, his mind a chaotic puddle of fear and contentment, he looked down at his unprotected dick, laying flaccid against his thigh. "Fuck!" He cursed harshly, starling Beth. "Day?" Beth said softly, her lime-green eyes showing with trust. Day was so fucking angry with himself he wanted to hit something, to throw something, to rage at his own idiocy, but none of that would help Beth. With far more calm than he felt, he pulled the sheets over their cooling bodies rubbing soothing circles on her back. Reaching with one hand Day silently rubbed his neck, already regretting what he was about to say. "I forgot a condom". Day muttered against Beth's hair, feeling her stiffen against him. Day couldn't begin to fathom the thoughts running through Beth's mind, and he didn't even try. He was the asshole who had forgotten to wear a condom, whatever happened, whatever she decided he would stand by her and take responsibility. "Well... Thank god they make the morning after pill". Beth said relaxing once again against his chest. Day looked down at her curling red hair, trying to think of a response to that. But before he could rationalize a good answer, his mouth was open and his other organ was speaking for him. "I don't want you to take the pill". As soon as the word was out, Day mouthed a silent scream and rolled his eyes back in his head. FUCKING IDIOT! Day screamed in his head, about to open his mouth and try to find a way to remedy what he had just said. But then Beth was lifting herself off his chest, looking down at him with a mix of curiosity, horror, and... hope? Day watched Beth open her mouth to say something, but then Day heard the pitter patter of little feet, a child's voice, and the door was suddenly whooshed open, making Beth gasp out and Day drag her down to his chest, reaching for the blanket and making sure they were completely covered. "Daddy where's Ms... Oh! Ms.Beth!" Brain said loudly crawling onto the bed and sitting Indian style just a little ways away from them; in his hand he had a pink cased iPhone. "I answered the phone Ms.Beth. I know Daddy says you shouldn't touch other peoples stuff, but it kept ringing. Ms.Ty says she wants to talk to you." Brian said, worrying his bottom lip. Day sighed as Beth maneuvered herself so she was covered and reached to take her phone from him. "Thank you Brian". Beth said, and Day could see a full body flush staining her skin as she scooted back on the bed, propping herself on a pillow and answering the phone. "Hello Ty". Day watched Brian crawl in between Beth and him, and reach for one of the books Day kept beside the bed when he read to Brian. Day was stunned as he watched his son settle in between them, balancing the book on both his and Beth's thighs, beginning to look at the pictures. There wasn't a sense of confusion, or wrongness, it wasn't weird that they were all in bed together, both Beth and himself naked with his son reading a book. There was a sense of normalcy that hadn't been there even with Shontell, it seemed that Beth had carved a place into his family, a niche where she fit perfectly, and he wondered how he would be able to let her leave again. Chapter 21 "Don't 'hello' me heifer!" Ty yelled at Beth over the phone, making Beth roll her eyes and smile a bit. If nothing else Ty was brutally honest and Beth loved her even more for it. "I've been busy-!" Beth began indignantly, trying to defend her reasons for not calling her friend. "Yeah I saw!" Ty said cutting her off as she did far too often. "Jason beat the living daylights out of Simone and you called the cops on his behind. But before that you butt dialed me and it sounded like you were out at a club! Like 2 hours after my party ended. I thought you said, you were going back to your apartment? What happened?" Beth nearly groaned out loud at her own idiocy. Of course she would get the whole integration from Ty, but now it was going to be worse. Ty was a New Jersey native, who happened to move across the bridge to cut back on gas, but nevertheless she was true to her Jersey roots and fiercely protective of the people she considered her friends. Not to mention she was a cop herself, who Beth had met while she'd been working a case; two cups of joe later and it was like Beth had found her long lost sister. Out of the corner of her eye Beth watched Day wave Brian out of the room, telling him to go and brush his teeth. Beth watched as Brian tried to argue with Day that he had brushed his teeth, but Day just told him to do it again. A petulant Brian left the room, closing the door behind him and not two seconds later Day was out of bed. Out of bed and standing completely naked in the morning light. Beth's mind turned to pudding as she let her gaze wander south. Her mouth was watering, and all sorts of tender parts, weren't feeling all that tender. About an inch away from her prize, Ty's screaming voice brought her back. "ARE YOU LISTENING ELIZABETH?!" Beth turned away from temptation, flopping back on the bed and switching the phone to her other ear. "Can you scream any louder Ty, I don't think they heard you on JUPITER!" Beth called back loudly. A male chuckle on the other side of the room, told Beth that Day was still here and could clearly hear their conversation. Turning to ask him to leave, or at the very least head to the shower, Beth was pleasantly surprised to see Day coming towards her. Without preamble he leaned down and gave her a slow-melting kiss, one that curled Beth's toes. "I'm gonna head to the shower, join me when you're done". Day whispered across her lips before sauntering naked to the bathroom. "Who was that?" Ty asked over the phone, bringing Beth once again back to their conversation. Damn but the man had a way of making a girl forget everything else existed. "A dog". Beth answered lamely before quickly changing the subject. "And don't call me Elizabeth Ty, you know how I hate it. And to answer your first question I caught Simone and Jason on the kitchen table. I decided to be all self destructive and get drunk at a club". Beth said, fiddling with the sheets. "Wow". Ty said pausing and seeming to gather herself. "One: it wasn't a dog, that was definitely a man, but we'll discuss that later, and two: Jason is a sorry son of a bitch who doesn't deserve someone as nice as you, and Simone's just a back-stabbing whore". Ty said as if she was reading from the bible. Beth could hear the shower running and it had her wanting to hang up on Ty and forget the world for a few more minutes with Day. "I'm not gonna argue with you". Beth responded, taking her eyes off the bathroom door. "So he slept with your best friend, beat the living daylights out of her, threatened you, and... am I missing anything?" Ty asked, as if she was counting Jason's transgressions on her fingers. "Nope". Beth said, deciding to get up and get dressed instead of showering with Day, which she would have preferred. "It's been a pretty hellish couple of days, not to mention Jason called from jail and threatened me. I mean he actually threatened me? Like I've ever been a person to take a threat!" Beth said walking around the room to Day's dresser and rummaging for a pair of boxers and a long shirt she could wear in lieu of her dirty clothes. Beth paused in her search thinking back, up till a few days ago she hadn't been the wimpy crying type, in fact she could count on one hand the number of times she cried in a year! But the last few days had been hectic to say the least, and had really made Beth take a step back and evaluate her choices, both with people and with her life. "Threatened you? Beth, get a restraining order ASAP! Rich people like him have a way of following through with threats, and Jason's always seemed a bit off to me anyway. I could definitely see him following through with whatever he threatened". Ty said over the phone, speaking in what Beth had labeled her "officer" voice. Tugging on the clothes Beth found, she switched the phone to her other ear. "I know you're right. It's just I have so much to deal with right now. I have to find a place to live, call back about 50 people, deal with the press-who I have no doubt are trying to find me-and also come to terms with my emotions. I'm a little bit of a mess to pile anything else on at the moment. But why don't we meet Tuesday at Red Duck for lunch and we can do the restraining order, and any other stuff you're gonna want me to do?" Beth said opening the bedroom door and moving towards the kitchen where Brian sat at the table reading. Beth lightly rubbed his hair as she passed him into the kitchen, getting a smile out of the kid. Over the phone she could hear Ty laughing. "Beth, I swear you know me too well. Besides I hate prying secrets out of someone over the phone, it's much harder to tell when someone is lying or keeping something. So Red Ducks it is! Say 2:30?" Beth rolled her eyes as she searched the cabinets, finding all the ingredients to make chocolate chip pancakes. "I'm not lying Ty, if that's what you're thinking". Beth said pulling out a mixing bowl from a cupboard. "Never said you were, but you are keeping something hidden Beth. I know you! And there is something you're not telling me. But we can discuss it later". Ty said, her way of letting Beth know she was done. "Fine. 2:30 on Tuesday. And don't be late!" Beth said, beginning to crack eggs as she cradled her phone between her ear and shoulder. "See you then". Beth could hear someone in the background; probably Ty's husband, Beth thought. "See you then". Ty said shortly, before the line cut. Beth used her free hand to move the phone away from her ear and onto the countertop. Looking over her shoulder, she saw Brian immersed in what looked like a kids comic. "You like chocolate chip pancakes right Brian?" Beth asked with a smile. She watched as he looked up smiling at her and vigorously nodding his head. "With bacon!" He said excitedly, making Beth roll her eyes and smile. "You should say "thank you" to Ms.Beth. She's being nice and making breakfast. You should be more grateful Brian". Day said sternly, as he entered the dining area. Brian nodded and mumbled a thank you, returning to his book. Beth caught Day's eyes, beautiful eyes the color of warm leather, strange but she hadn't noticed it before. Even more strange was the sudden fluttering she felt in the vicinity of her heart. Chapter 22 Day looked at Beth watching her eyes go wide, like she had just discovered something. He watched her quickly spin back around and finish making the pancake batter. Day nearly groaned out loud when he finally realized what she was wearing, a pair of his boxers and one of his old t-shirts. Never had a woman looked so damn fine in men's clothes; she looks even better than Shontell had, Day thought before he caught himself. Beth wasn't Shontell, she wasn't anything like the love of his life, the woman he had vowed to spend the rest of his life with, the woman whom he had felt disconnected from for the last few months of her life. Sighing deeply Day pulled out a chair and sat down, content to watch Beth work. If she hadn't died, Day knew they would have eventually gotten a divorce. He hadn't liked to think about it, but the passion and love that had attracted them together had burned out. It seemed with the death of Brian's parents, their own love had died too. Sometimes when Day was feeling particularly low and dark, he thought that he had killed her, that maybe it was his fault because he worked too much or he hadn't been there enough for her, that he had been the cause of her death. But then he would come back, pull himself out of his dark thoughts and remember hadn't been him driving the SUV that had hit Shontell, and no amount of self-hatred to bring someone back. Day had loved his wife with all his heart, but the love had been fading, and to clutch onto this idea of how a perfect marriage with Shontell wasn't good for him. Mentally Day knew he had to stop comparing women he meant to this perfect doll he had constructed Shontell to be, because it wasn't real. "Pancakes and bacon!" Beth announced proudly, setting the plates in front of both guys and drawing Day out of his gloomy thoughts. Before he could caught himself he said, "Thanks babe". Day nearly smacked himself, his language far too casual tone that insinuated a bond, a relationship, that they didn't have. But Beth just smiled and gave him a wink. "Eat up". I'd like to eat you up, Day thought staring at Beth's lips as she licked off syrup. In an instant he was hard, and had to adjust himself in his jeans. "So what's the plan for today?" Beth asked casually, sipping at her water. "Well, I was going to go grocery shopping, take Brian to the park, and head into the office to straighten out some things with a new client I have; apparently he considers Sunday a work day". Day said around a mouth full of pancake. Day watched Beth nod absently and smile. "I'm probably gonna get a shower and then go look for an apartment so I can get out of your guy's hair". Beth said cheerily making a face at Brian, who just laughed and said she was silly. "Stay as long as you like, there's no rush". Day said putting his fork down and turning his attention to her. Day watched as Beth mimicked his movements, turning to give him her full attention. "I can't impose on you like this, especially when I won't be here that long". "What'd ya mean?" Brian asked, starling both himself and Beth. Day turned to Brian about to explain the complicated world of adults, when Beth started talking."You see Brian I have to go home. You dad has been very nice, but this isn't my home and I have to leave". Day heard her say gently, making him clench his fists. He wanted to yell and tell her she wasn't leaving, grab her and throw her down on the kitchen table and fuck her till she couldn't walk, till she couldn't leave! Day turned away from Brian and Beth trying to get himself under control. Never, not a single time had Day ever felt the rage of emotion he had just felt at the thought of Beth leaving. It was as if a caveman had jumped into his mind and started rearranging things. "But.. But.." Day heard Brian begin in a thready voice, turning back to look at his teary eyed son. "I thought you were going to be my new mommy! I want you to be my new mommy!" Brian said, beginning to bawl, fat tears streaming down his little face. Day was lost on how to handle the situation, usually when Brian cried Shontell had handled it, and now when Brian did cry he usually gave the kid a toy or candy and he was fine. But this was bigger than an action figure or piece of chocolate, this was what Day had feared: that Brian would get attacked to Beth! Day's mind was running and he tried figure out what to do, but his butt felt glued to the chair with his hands still clenched in fists. With infinite calm Beth rose from her chair and went around to Brian, much to Day's surprise. Kneeling beside the child, Beth gently took his little body into her arms and began to rock him back and forth. Brian curled into her, his little arms finding their way around her neck, with his face buried in the crook of her shoulder. "It's all right sweetheart. I'm here, it's ok. You have to calm down though; can you calm down for me sweetie". Beth cooed to Brian, amazing Day with her ability to diffuse the situation. Finally Day's body began to move and he was suddenly down on the floor with them, his arms enveloping both Brian and Beth in a warm embrace. "You"-hiccup-"can't leave!" Brian hiccuped against Beth, pulling at Day's heart strings. Silently Day reached down tilting Beth's head up. She was crying too, silent tears of understanding, of knowing this would have to end. But a rebellion started in Day's gut, spreading out with the heat of a fire, until it consumed him, until it drove him. Bending down, Day captured Beth's lips in a breathless kiss not caring if Brian saw, because Day had just come to a conclusion. He was never going to give Beth up. So fuck the world, fuck her abusive fiancee, fuck her whore friend, fuck everyone! She was his! Day pulled her head to the side, devouring her whole. "Mine". Chapter 23 "Beth!" Ty yelled snapping her fingers in front of Beth to get her attention. "What?" Beth snapped angrily, frowning at herself. Running a hand through her already messy hair, Beth grimaced and dropped her hand into her lap. It had been a total of five days now that she had been living with Day and Brian, and almost constantly the man was on her. It wasn't like they had sex each and every night, but the man made sure she was satisfied. Flirting the Fence Ch. 20-29 But that wasn't what was keeping her on edge, it was the fact that Beth wasn't sure what she was doing with her life! She'd gone back to work today and just stared at the files on her desk, her mind completely consumed with thoughts of Day and Jason and Simone, until it gave her one kick butt migraine. It seemed that her perfectly calculated life had done a 180, and now she was floating through the debris not sure if she wanted to put things back together or start from scratch. "Sorry, I'm just tired and crabby". Beth said taking a bite of sweet and sour chicken, but not really enjoying it. Sighing, Beth put down her fork and rubbed her eyes. "So we were talking about the restraining order and then also some self defense courses right?" Beth watch Ty devour her pork fried rice and dumplings in record time. "Yes". Ty said around a mouth of food. "But I had just asked you about the guy I heard with you on the phone". Beth rolled her eyes, adjusting in the booth and glancing around the crowded restaurant. She had known it would come up eventually, but Beth still hadn't gotten her story straightened out, mainly because it wasn't yet straight! "His name's Day", Beth answered reaching for her water and taking a big gulp. "Day? hmm...You fuck him?" Ty asked without preamble. Beth might have spit her water out, if she didn't know Ty by now, but the question still made her grimace. It was only then that Beth recognized the similarities between Ty and Day. Both had exotic ebony skin, both were straight-forward-no-bull-crap people with protective instincts to boot, and both cursed like sailors. The only visible difference was that Ty had breasts and twists in her hair, whereas Day was corded with muscle and with a shaved head. "That's none of your business". Beth rebuffed, setting her glass on the table with a clink. Ty raised an eyebrow to that but proceeded with her interrogation. "If I remember correctly he asked you to 'join him in the shower' right?" Ty said using air quotes, like that could be code for something.Well, it had been code for something very nice and hot that wasn't a shower, but that was besides the point, Beth thought with a huff, now a little hot and bothered. She watched as Ty fold her arms over her chest, giving Beth her best no-nonsense cop look. "Now either the man is extremely presumptuous or you slept with him? And I know you Beth!" Ty accused, narrowing her eyes. "Fine!" Beth said flopping back in the both and abandoning any hope of not discussing it. "I fucked him! Is that what you want to hear! We did it in every position! I rode his-" Beth's voice rose. "Beth!" Ty said sharply cutting Beth off and looking disapprovingly at her. The type of look she gave her toddler when the kid did something he wasn't supposed to do. But she had the audacity to couple it with a little smirk, as if she had just found something she could believe. "Stop smiling!" Beth ground out before she looked down at her cold food and tried to compose herself. "I'm sorry. I just haven't been sleeping well-and don't let your mind go in the gutter! It's just this whole situation is crazy, and I feel like it's all a dream and I'm just waiting to wake up. I mean the same night Jason cheats on me I find this perfect, awesome, sexy-as-sin guy? I mean how does that happen? And despite my crazy emotions he's stuck by me? Invited me to live with him! And now, I'm falling head over heels-" Beth closed her mouth, ending her triad before her heart jumped out of her throat. "Wow. Just, wow Beth." Ty said shaking her head. At the same moment their waiter came back and Ty asked for the cheque. "Beth I'm not even sure how to help you out here- I mean that all sounds complicated. And I know you're trying to deny it, but it's obvious you have something this guy. Honestly I think it's good for you Beth. I mean sure you look a little tired, but I see real emotion, not the fake bullshit mask you wore when you were with Jason. I swear sometimes I was worried your face would get stuck like that". Ty said handing her credit card to the waiter before Beth could protest. "You don't-" Beth began reaching for her purse. "It's no problem Hun". Ty said waving her hand down and smiling gently. "But honestly, I think this is good for you! I mean you're starting to act like a human again, the Beth I used to know. I just want you to be careful, take it easy. Have you found a place to live yet? You know you always have a place with me". Beth smiled, touched by Ty's concern. "I'm staying with Day, but I'm hoping to find a place soon". Beth respond grabbing her coat and bag as Ty signed the cheque. Reaching into her bag, Beth pulled out a couple of bills, looking over the cheque, she made sure she had enough for a tip before leaving the money on the table. Together the ladies walked out onto the street, beginning to walk back to Ty's car. "Just be careful. You've been through a lot, and as much as I think this guy can help you, he has the same power to devastate you; remember that Beth". Ty said approaching her sedated black minivan. Beth nodded and smiled wryly at her friend before leaning in to hug her. "I'm barely holding on Ty, but I'm trying. I have Jason's hearing coming up and I also have his parents to deal with, not to mention my own. Apparently they're all in town for some business and they want to meet up. This week has just been hellish, and I don't see anything calming down for at least another week. So, I'm just taking it one day at a time". Beth said pulling back. Ty nodded sagely, "That's all you can do". Pulling out her keys, Ty snapped her fingers as if just remembering something. "Oh and send me this guy's full name and address, I'll do a background check and make sure he doesn't have any skeletons in his closet". Beth had become too accustomed with Ty's operation not to agree, plus Beth would like to know more about Day. For the moment all she knew was that he owned his own business, something in construction. She didn't know if it was a lucrative business of not, so some more information about Day would be helpful. "I'll do that". Beth said, as she watched Ty nod her head and move around the car to open the driver's side door and climb in. Beth was just turning away, when Ty rolled down the window and called out to her. "Beth!" Turning back around and leaning down to the window Beth smiled. "Yeah?" "You know I love you girl. So don't do anything stupid, Ok? Call me if you need anything and try not to worry so much about Jason and the family situation. Just live your life". And with those parting words, Ty pulled out and was gone. For a while Beth stood on the sidewalk contemplating going back to work, but decided she wasn't up for it. Hailing a cab, she gave the cabbie directions for home. Wait? Home? When had Day's house become her home? Beth couldn't remember, and as she stared at the passing city from the window of the cab, she couldn't say she was really concerned about her thoughts. All she knew for certain was that she was Day was the only constant in her life, him and Brian. So fro right now, where ever they were would be her home. Chapter 24 "I'm not someone's fucking dog to be manipulated. Call JB industries and get their asses down here. I'm gonna need a damn good reason why they want to fuck up everything I just did". Day said pacing the length of his office like a caged lion. Ricky navigated the lounge chairs in Day's office and moved to the sideboard to pour his boss a drink. "Look I know it sucks now, but they're good business, and building a high-rise here for their firm will only help us. So what if we have to deal with a little bullshit and cockiness? After this Day you could actually hand the business down, like maybe you and Beth-" Ricky began handing day his drink. "Ricky, don't". Day growled harshly before tossing the drink back in one swallow, letting it burn down his throat and sit hotly in his gut. "And another thing", Ricky began, completely ignoring Day's warning as he went about the room cleaning up. "Have you told her you're loaded? That you own one of the most lucrative businesses in the country? Because she would be a great asset to us". Ricky said. Day turned around harshly slimming his glass on the table. "Ricky, don't fuck with me. I have too much shit to deal with now. I'm in the process of building 13 new buildings and I have to keep track of all my employees and also deal with my personal life. So this isn't the time to get on my bad side". Day said very calmly. Ricky stood in front of Day for a second before nodding his head slightly and leaving the room without a further word. Just as Day was about to pick up his glass and throw it across the room his personal phone rang. Thinking it might be something serious because only a select few had his personal number, Day answered immediately. "Hello?" He asked moving to sit on the edge of his desk. "Day?" Beth's soft melodious voice, hit him and made him instantly hard. The attraction he felt for the woman wasn't just physical, his mind and heart called out to her too. Even now in the mess that was his business she was monopolizing his mind. "Hey Beth, what's up?" "I know you said you worked on West 53th and Patterson, and I'm in the area. So I um thought I'd come up and see you, maybe go over some of your other documents for you?" Beth offered hesitantly. Day reached for the back of his neck, trying to rub out the tension. He honestly didn't know if he was ready for her to know how wealthy he was. it was one of the things he tried to keep separate from his personal life. But she would find out sooner or later with the course they were taking. "Sure. The address is: 1554 Patterson ave, suite 4". Day said. He could hear Beth whispering something, and he thought she was probably be in a cab. "Ok, I'll see you in ten. Do I need a visitors pass or anything?" Beth asked. "No, Ricky'll come get you. See you soon". Day said moving away from his desk and toward the reception area. "See you soon". Beth said before the line disconnected. "Ricky?" Day called out as he walked past the different offices and cubicles that made up his business, smiling and waving at a few people. "Yeah boss?" Ricky's head peeked out of the copier room. "Beth's on her way here, so could you go down and get her". Day said as more of a statement than a question. "You mean your girlfriend Beth?" Ricky said drawing the word "girlfriend" out and making Day want to punch him, as several heads turned to caught the tidbit of gossip. "Just fucking do it". Day said turning away from Ricky and moving back to his office. "And I'm going to need that report summary on my desk by 5!" Day called out before he shut the door. Chapter 25 Beth stood in front of the expensive looking office building, re-checking to make sure she had the right address. Yup, 1554 Patterson ave, Beth thought pulling the double doors open and walking into the lobby. "Well!" Beth muttered under her breath as she looked around at the upscale sitting area and security desk. It wasn't like she wasn't used to over-prices understated elegance, it was more like she was far too comfortable with it. Iowa hadn't been anything like the life she had built herself in New York, and she had just begun expecting five star restaurants and hotels rather than being amazed by them. Jason had taught her to be that way, never to gawk when a woman wore 50,000 dollar earrings and complained about them, this was the world she lived in and she'd had to adapt. It was just Beth hadn't thought that Day knew this world too. Again beth wondered if he had been serious when he said he was the "owner of a small construction business". From the location of his office alone, she wouldn't call the business small. It was obviously quite lucrative and large to own any suite in this building, Beth thought, moving further into the lobby. "Hey! Beth!" Ricky called from across the room, near the stainless steel elevators. Several people looked in their direction with disgruntled expression, but Beth ignored them and greeted Ricky. "Hey! Long time no see". She said giving Ricky her best smile. Risky just smirked. "Honestly I didn't even think I'd see you again". Beth relaxed her stance, and nodded. "Yeah, I didn't think I would see you again either, but here I am". Beth said gesturing to herself, wearing a smirk herself. "And so you are". Ricky said nodding, and giving her a once over. "Shall we". He asked gesturing for the security desk's metal detectors and elevators. "I'm actually really glad you're here". Beth heard Ricky say as she paced to keep up with him. "Oh, and why is that?" Beth asked curiously, hoping she wouldn't fall flat on her face as her heels slid against the cool marble floors. "Day's been a bit of a pill all day because of this JB enterprises crap, and I know... seeing you would brighten up his day". Ricky said flashing his badge at the guards as the walked through the metal detector. Beth tilted her head thinking about what Ricky had just said, JB enterprises? Why did that name sound familiar? But then Beth remembered the rest of his comment and for the time being JB enterprises what out of her mind. Biting the inside of her cheek, Beth ran her purse through the scanner and then walked through the metal detector herself, a little peeved at Ricky. In the very short time she'd been with Day, she'd come to know as little about Ricky, and honestly beth thought he was a bit of an ass. But no matter her opinion of his character, beth could still see he was a damn good employee, and dedicated to boot! They reached the elevators and stepped into an empty car. "I hope you don't think I'm here to have office sex with your boss? Please give me a little class Ricky". Beth said flipping her curls over her shoulder and giving him the same attitude he was giving her. Ricky's expression was priceless as his eyes went round and his jaw dropped open. But just as quickly as the look came, it was gone again replaced by an urban mask of arrogance. "You've got one huge set of lady balls Beth; I respect that". Ricky said, straightening his sleeves. Beth would have liked to pump her fists and do a little gig, but instead she just smiled coyly, checked her nails, and waited for the car to stop. As soon as Beth had seen Day and Ricky together she had realized that their relationship was a little deeper than just an employee and boss, they were actually friends. So the fact that she kept winning Ricky's approval only worked in her favor. The elevator doors dinged, and quickly Beth exited the elevator following quickly at Ricky's heels. "Mr.West is in his office, and you're welcome to go in. Please let me know if you need anything else Ms.McNash". Ricky said politely gesturing to the double doors in front of Beth. Grabbing the doorknob, Beth turned to Ricky and raised a brow. Wow did he just do a total 180! But Beth couldn't even say she was all that surprised; of course Ricky would be professional, especially in front of others. But then if he was more relaxed in front of her, what did that mean? Beth filed that thought away and opened the doors, pushing her way into Day's office. Chapter 26 Day turned and looked up from his computer monitor to see Beth stepping into his office. Before she even cared to give him a glance, Day could see her jaw drop open as she looked around his room. Day rubbed the back of his neck, not exactly comfortable with the way she was looking around. Yes, he was exceedingly wealthy and had done very good with his business, but he tried not to mix his business life with his home life. He preferred to keep the two separate, because whenever money was involved relationships tended to take a different turn. "Beth". Day said trying to get her attention as he rose from behind his desk. It was only then that Beth seemed to even realize there was another person in the room. Slowly Day watched her turn and close the door, gently leaning her forehead against it. She stayed like that for only a few seconds, but to Day it felt like forever. He wasn't sure what she was thinking, and that fact alone put him on edge. Calmly, he watched Beth lift her head and move across the room to stand in front of him. "Day?" Beth breathed in a nervous voice. Day gritted his teeth, his anger from before coming to the surface. He had told her he owned a business, though he hadn't been specific on just how big or profitable it was, her reaction to him still irritated him! She looked white as a ghost, and her eyes weren't really looking at him, but at the image he was projecting, the one he had to project. That of a Strong, cold, assured, businessman who ran his company with an iron fist. Yet that wasn't who he actually was, it was nothing like his true character, but his true character didn't get him appointments with top businesses across the world, and that's when the look came in. "I'm not you fucking bastard fiancee Beth". Day ground out between clenched teeth, fire having his leather brown eyes lighting up to dark melting chocolate. He watched Beth take an instinctive step back, her hand going protectively to her chest. "I know that!" She whispered fearfully, before he saw that spark of defiance come back to her eyes. It was that spark that made Day hard as iron, not the weak willed woman that had moments ago been in front of him. Not that crying, broken woman who he'd saved, but the smart talking intelligent attorney who could keep up with him. "Don't you think I know you're not him!" Beth said harshly taking a step closer to him. Day's anger was cooling, but his ardor was rising; Beth just had that effect on him. She made him want her all times, lounging on his couch in a pair of sweats, or taking walks with Brian in the park, or "accidentally" dropping her towel after she'd come out of the shower. Everything about her turned him on, made him want her like a starving man given his first meal in days. Reaching out, Day twisted his hand around Beth's hair, pulling her closer to him so her breasts were crushed to his chest, her soft belly cradling his erection. Hmm... Day thought leaning down to smell her neck. "You smell good, like Jasmine and honey; but... you don't smell like me". Day growled pulling Beth's neck further back and sucking hard. Beth was digging her nails into his biceps, her thighs moving sensuously against him. Day was feeling violent and he let go of Beth's hair, his hands grabbing her around the waist and lifting her up so she wrapped her legs around his hips. Day pulled his mouth away from Beth's neck, changing to kiss Beth's mouth and drown in her. Desk, desk, desk, Day thought in his mind, moving in the general direction of his desk, careful of furniture in his path. Beth's fingers traced up his bicep to his neck, gripping him and slowly gyrating her hips against him. Finally Day felt the desk, and swiped his arms across it sending papers and pens and his keyboard flying onto the floor. Setting Beth on top of his desk, Day reached under her skirt and grasped her panties. Beth was helpful enough to lift her ass as he slid her underwear down as far as he needed them to go. Then Beth was sliding down his zipper, and reaching inside to grasp the length of him. Day was past the rational side of him that thought how inappropriate it was to be having sex on top of his desk in the middle of the day, with his employees working on the other side of his door. Pushing her skirt up to her waist, Day looked down at Beth's beautiful ivory skin, at once struck by how completely opposite they were. His hand was dark on her flesh as he squeezed her thighs, watching the skin around his fingers redden. "Now!" Beth breathed against his neck, loosening his tie and unbuttoning his top two buttons. Day freed himself from his boxers and reached between her thighs to make sure Beth was ready. She was. Flirting the Fence Ch. 20-29 Moving swiftly, Day pulled her to the edge of his desk and thrust into her at the same time. Day watched as Beth threw her head back and bit her lip, her thighs shaking uncontrollably as she orgasmed against him. Day was breathing hard, as he felt Beth's nails dig into his biceps once again. Damn she came fast, Day thought drawing slowly out of her and then slamming back with the same force as the first thrust. Because he was standing up, Day could control the force of his thrusts, but for some bizarre reason he didn't want to be gentle or careful with Beth, he wanted to be rough. Day wanted to feel Beth come apart, make her understand that he wasn't her ex-fiance, burn that fact as deep as he could into her body, because.... because... Day was drowning in her body, his fingertips digging into the sensitive flesh of her hips. He was coming undone, fucking her with mindless abandon, not caring about who might hear them because Day was slowly beginning to realize something; this woman giving herself to him, undulating like she loved every inch of his cock, every inch of him, was his woman. HIS. Day pulled out of Beth, turning her around and pulling her ass back against him. Lifting Beth up until she was on her tiptoes, Day thrust into her, holding the desk to make sure he wasn't bruising her hips too badly. Somewhere along the line of their strange and unusual relationship he had fallen for her; fallen so fucking hard for her, that the thought of her thinking of another man, of talking to another man, of even fucking touching another man was driving him bat shit crazy! Never had Day felt this amount of emotion before in his life; never. The intercom on his desk buzzed as he fucked Beth with a single minded obsession. "Excuse me Mr.West, but the president and vice president of JB enterprises are here". Ricky's voice came out, clear and steady. Day looked down as he entered Beth, watching her sucking him in like she was made for him. Trying to focus on what Ricky had just said, Day reached forward, never stopping his love making, for the intercom button. Before he pressed it, he could her Beth's soft breathy "No!" "Ricky, put them in the large conference room and... and... I'll be there in a second". Day forced out as Beth came on his cock again. Quickly shutting the intercom off, Day thrust a few more frenzied times before coming inside of Beth. Leaning over her, he tried to regain himself, reaching for her jumbled curls Day brushed them aside and placed a heated kiss in the crook of her neck. "I've got to go sweetheart". Day said drawing out of Beth, but as soon as he did so her legs gave way and she began to fall. Easily Day caught Beth and gently carried her over to the only couch in his office and carefully laid her down, tugging her skirt down as he did. "I'm obviously not fragile Day, you don't have to treat me like glass after you just fucked my brains out". Beth said tiredly, smiling wanly up at him. Day just smiled and leaned down to kiss her. "Sorry I was so rough". Beth laughed outright, as Day put himself back into his pants. "No you're not". Looking at a tousled Beth, he could see his semen slowly moving down her thigh and it was only then that he remembered he had forgotten a condom. But a part of him, that primitive caveman side, stomped his staff and danced for joy. Day just shook his head ruefully, not even sure how to react to that side of himself. "I'll be in there for a while, but you're welcome to join the meeting; I could use another pair of eyes to look over the their contract with me". Day said moving to a hanging mirror and fixing his appearance to look once again like cool, composed, money. "Sure. As soon as I can feel my legs again I'll join you". Beth said tiredly from the couch making Day turn and smile at her, the smile that a satisfied lion might give to his lioness. Quickly Day checked his watch before moving to his door, preparing himself for the coming meeting, but just as his hand hit the knob he remembered. "Oh and through that door-" Day pointed to a door at the far end of the room- "you'll find a full bathroom, feel free to use it". Then he was gone, feeling a sense of calm that he hadn't felt all day. Chapter 27 Stupid Day, Beth thought as she wiped up his excess from between her legs. Not even two seconds after rocking her world, and literally making it impossible for her to stand on her own two feet, he'd gone off for a business meeting! Beth was a little bit miffed and a little bit turned on by his attitude. It was probably the total 180 from how he usually treated their love making, almost always after they finished they cuddled and she would fall asleep in his arms, but 5 minutes ago he'd been aggressive, dominant and a little part of her liked it. But she wouldn't want Day like that ALL the time, just one special occasions. There was just something about a man taking charge in a way that made you feel both desirable and protected, Beth though staring at herself in the mirror. With brutal efficiency, Beth finger combed her hair and adjusted her clothes so she looked at least a little presentable. Outwardly she was regaining her composure, but internally she was a mess of emotions. She had liked the more aggressive take charge Day, not as much as she liked his softer side, but it seemed that no matter what side of him Beth saw, she seemed to be attracted to each of them. Sighed she did a once over of herself to make sure she looked at least semi-composed, then very slowly, very deliberately she walked out of the bathroom and across the room to the door. When she had first gotten up, from her mini nap, she'd barely been able to move, but gradually she'd pushed through her stiff muscles and tender lady parts and forced herself to the bathroom to wash up and fix her disheveled appearance. Grabbing her jacket and purse she placed both on a hook near the door and turned the knob looking out the door for Ricky. The knowing little punk was in a swivel chair and facing her with a knowing look on his face. "Don't you dare say anything. Not a peep!" Beth fumed closing the door behind her, and smoothing her skirt for what felt like the hundredth time since she'd gotten up. Beth watched Ricky smirk and raise from his chair. "Wouldn't dream on it. The meeting's this way"-Ricky said beginning to lead them-"Day told me you might sit in on it". Ricky said leading her past a number of cubicles and curious eyes to a set of frosted glass doors. Tapping lightly on the door, Ricky opened it and stepped inside, holding the door wide open for Beth. "Ms.McNash, sir", Ricky said before exiting. Beth smiled at Day on the other side of the table, his business associates had their back to her as she made her way over to Day, so Beth decided to ignore them for the time being. But half over to Day's side she was stopped by a voice. "Beth?" Slowly pivoting on her heels Beth stared down the side of the room she'd just come from, at her ex-fiance's father, Jason Brucksworth the first. Beth schooled her features into a serene smile as she looked to his left and saw his business associate Ryan Talbots and just behind them, sitting off to the side was Jason. Beth's fear began to amount as she strained to keep her serene mask in place. The fear was clogging her throat choking her, as she watched Jason raise in his seat, his father looking at her with such utter hatred that it was hard to stand her ground. Immediately she felt a strong heat radiating at her back, and Beth realized that Day was standing right behind her, a silent support. "Mr.Brucksworth, Mr.Talbot, nice to see you both". Beth nodded slowly, making certain her voice was even and not betraying any of the dozen or so emotions just beneath her skin. Beth watched Mr.Brucksworth turn his head to look at Jason who seemed to be coming towards them. "Jason sit down!" Mr.Brucksworth said chastening his son. Reluctantly Jason sat down, but he continued to stare daggers at Beth. Mr.Brucksworth straightened his jacket and seemed to compose himself. "If you could please take a seat Mr.West, Beth". He said gesturing to the seats at the far end of the table. Without hesitation Beth walked over to the seats, with Day hot on her heels. Taking a seat, Beth reached for Day's note pad and the contract trying to distract herself. "Now where were we?" Day said professionally, beginning to pick up the conversation where they had left off. Under the table, with one of her hands shaking in her lap, Beth felt Day's strong and warm hand envelop hers and link their fingers together. Beth was disgusted with herself, upset that she hadn't realized that JB enterprises was actually her JB enterprises, the same company that she had dealt with years ago, the same one that she had met Jason at. Silently she hoped her enormous over site wouldn't cost Day his livelihood, and... their relationship. Taking slow even breaths, Beth tried to focus on the conversation and not her increasing fear. Chapter 28 Day Fuck this meeting! I'm gonna climb across this table and beat that punk-pretty-white-boy's ass! Day thought in his head, planning out all of Beth's ex-fiancee's beatings. Outwardly he was calm and sophistication, talking shop with Mr.Brucksworth and negotiating the terms and the cost of their business venture. Beth was shaking like a leaf under the table even though she too maintained a serene mask, and would at times contribute to the conversation and even ask questions. Somewhere in his mind, Day knew Beth had told him her fiancee's name, she must have! But for some reason the two just hadn't clicked and now Day was costing himself what was likely the start of a very good relationship with Beth, the business deal he give two shits less about. "Well, Mr.West", Mr.Talbot said from across the table shuffling some papers. "I think that concludes our business for the day". Day thought the man seemed more like a secretary then the vice president of a major company, and it seemed that good ol' daddy Brucksworth was grooming his abusive asshole son to take over for him. Day smiled pleasantly at the gentleman across the table from him, beginning to rise in his seat. "That concludes our professional business, but not out personal business. Ryan, leave". Mr.Brucksworth said to his vice president, who scrambled to get all the documents in his briefcase and then quickly exit the conference room. Day sat back down, rolling his neck until he heard a pop. "Mr.Brucksworth if you have any personal business with Ms.McNash you may handle it outside of my establishment. Now it was a pleasure doing business with you, and I look forward to collaborating with you in the near future. Have a good afternoon". Day said effectively dismissing the Brucksworths in the most polite way that didn't hurt his business and also didn't involve throwing them bodily out of his company. "Unfortunately Mr.West if you want to have a business relationship with JB enterprises we need to first have a discussion about Ms.McNash's and your involvement, as she is engaged to my son". Day heard Mr.Bruckworth say, but he was trying too hard not to reach across the table and strangle the man with his too expensive tie. "Mr.Brucksworth, I would be happy to discuss whatever you want, but please remember that this is a work environment and it is extremely inappropriate to demand such things. In addition to that I am no longer engaged to your son. I thought I had made that clear." Beth said calmly next to him, making a move to rise, but Day kept her firmly in her seat my unlinking their hands and sitting his palm on her thigh. "You're fucking him aren't you?" Jason said from across the room rising and slamming his hands flat on the table. Day's jaw ticked and he rolled his neck once again, hearing it pop. "Mr.Brucksworth, please control your child's behavior or I will have him escorted from the premises". Day said squeezing Beth's thigh as a way to calm himself and reassure her. "Ch-Child?" Jason thundered, recoiling like he'd been slapped. "Jason sit down, I will not ask you again". Mr.Brucksworth said coldly to his son, never taking his eyes off Day. Day watched the old man sigh, as if he was resigned to something, and then turn his gaze to Beth. "If you would please answer the question Beth". Day was floored that they would even ask that question to a lady, let alone in an office setting. Day didn't care who these men were or how much fucking money they made, he doubted he made much less and he also doubted that he really needed their business. "I would like you to leave Mr.Brucksworth. I no longer have a desire to work with your company. I shall have my secretary annual our contract". Day said standing up to his full height and beginning to exit the room. "There is no need to be rash Mr.West. I consider our business finished and nothing that is said here can impact our contract. I try hard not mix business with pleasure, but in this case it has already been mixed". Mr.Brucksworth said pointedly to Day, not so subtly accusing him of sleeping with Beth. Day felt Beth pull her hand from his and go over to Mr.Brucksworth. He watched stunned as she took a seat on the right of him, far away from Jason but close enough to Mr.Brucksworth that she could reach out and grasp his hand. Day felt his muscles tense as she touched the father or his abusive, cheating, ex-fiancee. It sickened Day to his very core, and made his muscles tense up. In the softest voice he had ever heard Beth use, she began to talk to Mr.Brucksworth looking him dead in his eyes. "Mr.Brucksworth, you and your wife have been very kind to me in the past, and I was looking forward to becoming apart of your family". Day heard her pause for a breath, as if the next part was going to be hard to get out. "But your son is an abusive, vile, worthless human being who makes me disgusted at the thought that I was ever with a... creature like him. I will not answer your question Mr.Brucksworth because my personal life is none of your concern, and I hope somewhere in the future you can see the type of man your son has become, and realize I am not a gold-digger or a whore, but I am a woman who has seen your son for what he truly is and cannot even imagine being near him". Day was astounded by her speech, and could see that both the Brucksworth's were too. Day watched as Beth let go of Mr.Brucksowrth hand giving him a small apologetic smile before turning around to Day. At the same moment, Jason's aggression seemed to paramount and he launch himself as Beth screaming. "Bitch! Whore! I'll fucking kill you!" Day was quick as he shoved Beth behind him and grabbed Jason mid-leap, slamming his face down onto the conference table. Mr.Brucksworth had jumped from his chair and backed up, real fear tugging at him. Day held the executive's son down with one hand around the back of his neck, and the other twisting his arm up, getting a perverse satisfaction as he heard Jason's shoulder pop out of its socket. "If you ever try to contact Beth again, try to get near Beth again, or even fucking think about Beth again, I will fuck you up. I have a lot of friends in high places who would turn their heads if anything happened, so don't fuck with me boy. Come here again and I will end you. Understand?" Day said slowly, enunciating every word to make sure Jason heard him. Not a second later Day's security team was pushing through the frosted glass doors and escorting a whining Jason out of the room. Day turn to a stunned Mr.Brucksworth who was in a state of disbelief at his son's behavior. "I'm-I'm-" He began but Day cut him off with an upraised hand. "Leave". Day said turning his head from the old man who was starting to look weak and frail, and searching the room for Beth. Day found her plastered up against the wall her whole body shaking violently. Gently Day picked her up, and using a secret door at the far end of the room Day carried her to his office without the nuisance of prying eyes. Day didn't care if Brucksworth followed his directions for not, all he cared about was Beth's safety. Setting Beth gently on the couch Day shrugged out of his jacket and wrapped it around her. Rubbing her arms up and down, and tried to warm her out of her shock, tried to help stop the shaking. When that didn't work he got up and went to his bar, grabbing two glasses and pouring two fingers of scotch. Day was mostly angry at himself, angry that he hadn't anticipated just how fucked up Jason really was, angry that he had put Beth in danger. Day was especially angry that Beth had had to put on a mask in front of the man who had almost beat her and his father who seemed to be made out of granite. Day was just fucking angry that he had put the woman he loved in danger of any kind! Wait, Day paused looking over his shoulder at a shaking Beth. Loved? Chapter 29 Beth wrapped her hands around the glass Day handed to her, trying hard not to shake and splash the liquid all over Day's expensive furniture. With quick jerky movements Beth downed the scotch savoring the burn. "Wow". Day said from the other side of the couch, as he gingerly sipped his drink. Beth laughed shakily, placing the glass on the side table to her left, and letting the drink slide through her system and calm her. "I've never been a light weight. I can take my liquor". Beth said closing her eyes as the warmth seeped into her bones. Beth replayed what had just happened in the conference room behind her lids, angry that she had once again cowered instead of kicking Jason's ass! She should have reached over and grabbed his balls, squeezing them until they- "I don't like the look on your face". Day said closer than before, shaking Beth from her thoughts. Opening her eyes she looked at him, and smiled gently. "I was just thinking about squeezing Jason's balls until they burst". Beth watched as Day threw his head back and laughed, feeling a little more comfortable than she had before. Beth was about to open her mouth, when a knock on the door interrupted them. "Come in". Day called setting his drink on a table and walking over to his desk. "Your 4 o'clock is here Mr.West. I've put them in the smaller conference room. Along with that, the younger Mr. Brucksworth has been escorted off the premises and I have a notified security that he is no longer allowed to enter the building; the older Mr.Brucksworth wasn't long behind him". Ricky said from just inside the door, taking notes on his iPad. Beth watched him look up at her, and she saw pity reflected in his hazel eyes. "Is there anything I can get you Beth?" Ricky asked softly. How pathetic do I look? Beth thought shrugging off Day's jacket and rising to her feet, composed once again. "Jason's freshly cut dick on a platter?" Beth said sarcastically, before walking to the door. "Or is that too much?" Ricky smiled at her, and in that moment she saw herself reflected in his eyes. She looked wicked pissed, she felt wicked pissed! Jason had bullied her again, but it would be the last time. "Where's the conference room?" Beth asked Ricky striding past him and into the hall. Day was there in a second leading the way, and silencing any gossip from the people in the cubicles with one look. Beth just kept her head high and moved with brutal efficiency to the room. In the meeting she was ruthless, going over every square inch of the contract, and wearing her attorney mask. Putting it nicely she was a bitch with a capital B. But it helped her gain some of the power back that she thought Jason had stolen. After the meeting was concluded, and the CEO was looking like he wanted to reach across the table and strangle her, Beth was almost completely herself. It wasn't like she had all that much practice with going over documents, but it was part of her job, and she did her job very well. Exiting the conference room, Beth noticed most of Day's employee's had gone home for the day and only Ricky and a couple of stragglers were left.
